Nonverbal communication can be intentional or unintentional, ambiguous, primary, continuous, and multichanneled. It functions to provide information, regulate interaction, express emotion, present an image, and express power/control. The main types discussed are kinesics, paralanguage, vocal interference, spatial usage, and self-presentation cues. Culture and gender can influence nonverbal signals. Improving nonverbal skills involves being conscious of and matching one's verbal and nonverbal communication.
