• Ability is based on fixed traits that
cannot change
• Effort only when not good enough
• Avoid challenges because they
could reveal lack of skill
• Feedback is threatening and to be
avoided
• Set backs are discouraging and
generally other peoples’ fault
• Success of others is threatening
