The Story Of Creativity
E. Paul Torrance was a pioneer in
creativity research and education for
more than 50 years.
• Torrance struggled as a teacher
working with difficult or failing
students.
• He observed that many of the least
successful students went on to
become highly successful in
business, the arts, science, education,
politics, and more.
His tests supported ground-breaking
concepts that:
• creative thinking was a significant
aspect of success
• creative levels could be measured
• creative thinking skills could be
increased through practice.
Learning Objectives

• Synthesis- Two or more ideas are
combined to make a new one
• Revolution – A completely new idea .. Is
the best one
• Reapplication – Sometimes an old idea
helps to create a new one

Ways to Spark Creativity Thinking
• Brainstorming : The best way to have a good
idea is to have lots of ideas.
Rules include:

• All ideas are equally valued
• No criticism of other people's ideas is allowed
Ways to Spark Creativity Thinking
• Engaging your Right Brain : Right

creative and innovative aspects.
• Simple way to do this is by drawing or
creating something in an individual or
group activity
• Example :Mind mapping
Ways to Spark Creativity Thinking
• Role-Play Situations- It is a technique
which allows a group to explore the
interrelationships within it by the use of
actors or group members to represent
particular individuals
• Pretending to be someone else and
channelling someone else’s emotions can
lead to hugely creative thinking.
Are You A Creative Thinker ?
There are 6 eggs in a basket
Six People- each take one of the egg
How can it be that one egg is left in the basket ?
The last person took the basket with the egg in it
‘An open mind is the most important

Editor's Notes

  1. Torrance invented the “Torrance Tests for Creative Thinking.” These tests shattered the theory that IQ tests alone were the gauge of intelligence or predictors of success.
  2. Activity: Creating Mind Maps by using words connected with arrows or lines. It’s a good way of representing a large amount of interconnecting information in a fairly compact way.
