Powerpoint 1
1. Question 11: In What Ways Does Your Media Product Use, Develop or Challenge Forms and
Conventions of Real Media Products? (You don't need more than a paragraph for each of
these bullet points aside from the images which requires a bit more discussion.)
.
• The title of my magazine is KOKO. I decided on this name because it is the name of a
club in Camden that I have been to and I just believe the name to be catchy. The club
often is home to performances from famous Djs, which is the genre I chose to do my
magazine on. I made the title on a font generator
I chose this style of title, because Its quite bold and eye catching. The contrast of black and
white make it stand out. Its also quite edgy, which is the image I wanted to portray
throughout my magazine.
This is the logo/title of popular magazine ‘DJ MAG’ it uses bold colouring and catches your
eye, even though its still quite simple.

3. The two girls i photographed wore quite casual, but club wearing clothes. Denim shorts & doc martins etc.
Their faces in the photographs i used on the front cover, contents and double page spread are happy and
they look like there having fun, which is important for the reader. Their makeup is fairly natural as are
there surroundings. I chose to take the pictures in the woods, as it made the girls seem quite easy going
and as i discussed in the double page spread, its a place where they go to shill out and clear their heads.
The pictures show the friendship of the girls and shows the reader how they've stuck together and carry
on to do so.
My front cover uses two different fonts, one font used to discuss the inside stories and a different font
stating ‘THE MAGNETS’ both the fonts are clear and easy to read and both have a fun look to them, which
attract the reader. Iv used the same fonts on all 3 pages, but with a different one when interviewing the
magnets. Using a different font for this makes it seem more professional.
The housestyle throughout is black, pink & white. With a pink & black checkered background on the front
cover, a black brick background on the contents page and just a plain black background on the double
page spread so that the main attraction is on the interview and the photographs of the Djs.
Although this front cover is I used the idea of
of a completely different overlapping the
genre to mine, this is what title with the image
inspired me to use the 3 on the front. This
colours, as i believe they adds importance to
work really well together. the magazine and

4. My double page spread is an interview of the
featured DJ’s ‘THE MAGNETS’ i asked questions
about there career to date and about their
experiences in the past year. I used quite
informal/friendly langauge so that is a nicer read and
gives the interview a larger audience as some people
would struggle to read really formal writing. I did a
small introduction about the girls to get the readers
involved straight away! This follows the conventions
of a music magazine as they almost always introduce
their bands.
5. My music magazine is all based around Dj’s so this is
therefore its genre.. The Djs cover house

7. Contents page....
The contents page includes, titles, page
numbers with what features on that certain
page, two images of what the reader will
find inside, the girls from the main story
‘the magnets’ and David Guetta a well
known Dj, who has a article in the
magazine. This follows conventions of a
normal contents page. But possibly includes
a bit less detail than a professional one
would.
It follows the house style of the front
cover, with the colours and font. This is
appealing for a reader.
8. Question 2 How Does Your Media Product Represent Particular
Social Groups (one paragraph with photo from your magazine and
comparison with real music magazine)
Although the colours of my magazine are on the girly side. By using a girl
on the front cover this is appealing for both female and male. My target
audience is between the ages of about 15-25 . Music lovers, mainly who
listen to house music, dubstep, jungle, techno etc. This music genre
narrows it down to people who attend clubs, festivals and other related
activities. These people tend to be quite outgoing and ‘crazy’ this is why i
made the image on the front cover like this, Talia poking her tongue out
makes it quite edgy and eye-catching. Her eyes are also directed straight
at you, again grasping your attention.
The outfit stands out, checker shirts like that are quite popular amongst
clubbers/festival goers, The image on the front is a long shot and shows
most of Talia's body, I think this seems in a way friendly, its almost like
your standing opposite eachother.
9. The image here uses a
mouth open
expression, this is what
influenced me for my front
cover. It makes the
magazine seem more easy
going and the man seems
to be having fun! This is
promising for the reader.
Their eyes are
directed
straight at you
and look quite
mysterious, this
is what I tried
to achieve.
10. Question 3 What Kind of Media Institution Might Distribute Your Media
Product and Why? (one paragraph with company logo and examples of other
mags they might distribute which fits in with yours)
IPC Media
IPC Media is one of the leading of both consumer magazine and digital publishers in the
United Kingdom. It was formed in 1963 as International Publishing Company and currently
produces over 60 iconic media brands, with print alone reaching almost two thirds of UK
women and 42% of UK men – almost 26 million UK adults –IPC is owned by Time Inc, the
publishing company of Time Warner Inc.
The iconic music magazine brand that IPC Media is well known for is New Musical Express
(NME) which was first published in March 1952 and will be celebrating 50 years in the music
industry in 2012. It was the very first British paper to include a singles chart. Their genre is
advertised as rock which would therefore attract a wide audience of both mixed age, gender
and target groups such as rockers, punks, and new age groups. The types of musicians they
include are Kings of Leon, The Killers, Arcade Fire and Artic Monkeys. NME has become a
truly unique multi-platform media proposition. Across the
magazine, nme.com, NMETV, NME Radio and the brand's live events and awards, NME
reaches over one million music fans every week. NME is the longest published and most
respected music weekly in the world. Every week it gives its readers the most exciting, most
authoritative coverage of the very best in contemporary music, including award winning
features, the latest releases, live reviews and the definitive guide to the best new bands in its
Radar section,
This is why I believe IPC would be a good choice for the distribution of my magazine
11. 4:Who Would Be The Audience For Your
Media Product ?
KOKO aims at readers from the ages of 17-25 and they are the leaders in
clubbing! Their one step ahead when it comes to dates of festivals and
major nights out. They are the ones who make our favorite artists dreams
come true and are with them every step of the way!
They are the first to recommend a new tune and the first on a new
fashion trend, whether it be their outfit, shoes, hairstyle or even their
makeup. There the ones who would happily give advice and
recommendations for a great night out, with their only intention of
sharing their love. They’re the best informed about top DJs and upcoming
tunes, and they just have to have the latest mobile. They’re the biggest
downloader's of music in the UK. They use twitter to follow and contact
their favorite Djs and to find out tour dates.
As the magazine is solely revovles around Djs, the reader would have to
listen to this genre.
