Postmodernism emerged after modernism in the mid-20th century. It is characterized by mixing different artistic styles and media and being influenced by pop culture and media texts that dominate reality. Postmodernism differs from modernism in that modernism was influenced by new technologies from 1890-1945 and artists had to stick to traditions, whereas postmodernism allows for more freedom of expression and mixing of styles as it is a response to modernism running out of new ideas after 100 years.

Are what shaped Modernism. It was influenced by the development of
modern industrial societies and the rapid growth of cities. It is also a social
progressive trend that happens culturally.
Modernism was from 1890-1945 and after this point is was postmodernism
that was further introduced.

3. What is post modernism all about?
Post modernism is a late 20th century movement that followed from
modernism in the mid 20th century. We are currently living in post
modernism. It is characterised by mixing different artistic styles and media for
it to be formed.
It brings forward pop culture and media texts that are said to dominate reality
and by defining ourselves we are influenced via the media.
The media is said to be ‘Media Saturated’ whereby there various styles that
we are able to pick from and be able to identify ourselves from.

• Pop arts are postmodernism because they express a
postmodern sensibility. They are also overexposed
objects to satirize modern art's preoccupation with
"challenging" classical notions of art.
• Postmodern art is a body of art movements that
sought to contradict some aspects of modernism or
some aspects that emerged or developed.

modernism?
• Post modernism is what we live in currently and it is
after modernism which took place during the end of
the 19th century up until the early 20th century
(1950’s) and it was then that postmodernism started
to evolve .

the artists had to stick to “traditional” aspects and
not being able to express their own ideas.
• Postmodernism was a response of modernism. It
occurred due to the fact that there were no new
ideas or forms to be found in art for around100
years, therefore the modernism era was the time to
come up with something "new" or "modern” and
very unique.
