2. Theme Ideas
⢠Road Sign â I will have the road sign of âSycamore Riseâ included on my
poster to give the audience a good impression of the location for the soap
opera and to also prove that Sycamore Rise is a real road to make the
whole soap seem more real.
⢠All Protagonists on the poster â I will include all the protagonists on the
poster in one main cast image in front of the Sycamore Rise sign. I will
include all the protagonists so the audience are aware of everyone whoâs
in the soap. Additionally it gives the audience first impressions on the
protagonists and a first chance to personally identify with the characters
based on their body language and facial expressions.
3. Tagline
A tagline is necessary to reel in the audience as this is one of the conventions that
most attracts audiences. The tagline should obviously be relevant to the soap opera
but it should not give away the plot. The tagline will be in large font so that it stands
out and along with the main image and is one of the first things that will be seen
when someone looks at the poster. It will be placed near the title so it does not cover
any of the protagonists as my main image includes all the protagonists and therefore
takes up a large amount of the page. The tagline that I will likely use is:
⢠âYou can run but you canât hideâ. This is the recurring text that the protagonist of
Will receives in the play and is therefore sufficiently relevant but also signifies how
the protagonist is being followed.
⢠âRun before youâre caughtâ. Again this tagline signifies how someone is being
chased and therefore indicates large amounts of drama.
4. Images Needed
⢠I only require one image for the poster as it will be a simple but effective
design meaning it is not too complicated with too much going on, on the
page. As earlier mentioned the image will be of the entire cast in front of
the Sycamore Rise road sign. I will take the image during the two planned
days of filming on the 3rd and 4th of October as this is the most practical
time to take the image. We will already be in the location with the
characters in their costumes meaning it will be easy to take the image
without having to dress up again and go back to the location.
5. Synergy with social media
I will include social media logos on the poster in an obvious place but not make them so large that they
take away focus from the rest of the poster. The social media sites that I will include on the poster will be
Instagram, Twitter and Facebook, there of the most popular social media sites in the world. By adding in
social media links, it makes the audience aware that the soap opera will be advertised across multiple
platforms to appeal to a wide a target audience as possible.
Synergy with magazine
I will insure that I incorporate synergy between my poster and my magazine by referring the same
themes on both pages such as the images that I will use. As my poster is only one main image I will
make sure that this image of the whole cast is placed somewhere on my magazine, not necessarily as
the main image as the main image for magazines is typically one or two protagonists but the image from
the poster will be included on the magazine.
Point of call information
The point of call information for the poster is important because it makes the audience aware of
when the programme will be aired and on what channel. I will include this in the top right hand
corner of the page and it will be in white writing so it stands out from the main image background
behind it.
6. Conclusion
⢠To conclude, in order to create the poster the first step is to take the main
image so I can get started on the rest of the poster. Similar to the
magazine front cover I will be using Adobe Photoshop CS5 2015.5 to
create the best poster possible. I am familiar with all the tools on
Photoshop and am comfortable working with simultaneous layers to
create the best poster possible so the coursework looks professional and
something that could air on BBC 2. Additionally, in preparation for the
poster I will need to find a suitable font to use which matches the theme
of the poster and does not look out of place or âtackyâ. I will most likely use
âdafontâ to source my font as the website has a huge variety to choose
from and you can pick different fonts according to different themes. For
example I wonât use a sports themed font from dafont but will instead will
choose a dramatic font to portray the drama that occurs in the soap.
