Poster
2. Poster
Images Needed:
• I will need a background image of
the main location that we are using
for the trailer, this is to set the
scene for the poster.
• I could use images of the main
characters in the trailer to reveal
who the show is about, however
this may be too much to fit on one
poster.
Synergy with social media:
• The use of social media on the poster can cause the
show to connect with the audience on a more
personal level whilst at the same time cause mass
marketing of the soap. For example, by using twitter
you can start a hashtag trend where you tweet a
hashtag and it will get shared around.
• Social media is also a good way for people to hear
about the new soap opera. If it gets shared around on
social media sites it is guaranteed to be seen by a lot
of people.
Themes & Ideas:
• I will use quite a dark colour scheme, this is to
connote the dangerous and darker plot which this
soap contains.
• To add to the darker theme I will consider having
the main background image focused in a low key
lighting area with a low angle shot to represent
the power the culprit has over the victim in the
soap.
• The poster could have the domestic violence
symbol located on it to represent the domestic
violence in the trailer and also that the soap
supports this cause. This is something that other
soaps do such as Hollyoaks supporting cancer.
• I could also make the poster to be a murder poster
requesting information from anyone who knows
anything about the murder, this is a publicity stunt
which was also done by Hollyoaks when they
made a missing persons poster for on of the actors
who got kidnapped in the soap opera. This will
represent a murder theme.
Tagline:
• ‘Let the revenge begin’ –
this tagline connotes that
part of the plot to the soap
opera will be revenge, this
suggests a darker themed
genre to the audience and
intrigues them to know
why someone needs to get
revenge.
• ‘The week that will change
The Rising Sun forever’ –
this tagline connotes the
idea that a shocking
incident is going to occur
which will change the soap
forever. This is eye catching
and intriguing for the
audience.
Point of call:
• The point of call information will include the date the
show is being released as well as the day and time it
will be shown regularly. The time will be preferably
between 7:30 and 8:30, this is due to the primary
research survey I completed where the majority of the
answers for the times the audience would like to
watch a soap opera was between these two times.
This was so it could allow for a wider audience age
range as it is not on too early nor too late when the
younger viewers may be in bed.

4. In order to move ahead with my poster I need to take the pictures that I require
for the poster. I will need to take a picture for the background image and then
also take pictures of the characters in the trailer to see if this will work on the
poster, if I feel it is too crowded I can remove these images at a later date. I will
be able to get the pictures of the characters when we start filming as we will be
in the right locations with all of the cast members.
In order to take the pictures I will need to organise all the relevant props we are
using, such as the costumes for the characters to make them look the part. I will
also need to decide if I am going to use a camera or my phone to take the
pictures, and once I have decided on this I need to obtain the equipment to take
the pictures with. I will also need to download suitable fonts to use for the poster
in order to make it look professional and fit the theme of the soap opera.
Finally, I will be using Adobe Photoshop CS5 in order to create the poster. I have
chosen to use this software as it is good for image manipulation and design, also I
have a lot of experience with this software from using it at AS Level media
studies. This means I can get on with creating the poster quicker as I am already
familiar with the tools and software.
