This document discusses user experience (UX) considerations for connected vehicles. It notes that while technology promises future value in areas like infotainment, driver assistance, and vehicle health, many consumers do not adopt new technologies. Effective UX design requires understanding human factors and avoiding information overload. Interactions should feel more natural and contextual rather than relying on more screens. The future of mobility is expected to include a mixed economy with growth in alternative modes like ride- and car-sharing alongside private ownership, though changes may happen gradually rather than through revolutionary technologies.
VisionMobile - Business models of mobile ecosystems - Digital WinnersSlashData
VisionMobile hosted a workshop on mobile ecosystems in November 2013. The document discusses the shift from mobile telephony to mobile computing and the fundamental changes this brought about. Ecosystems have become the gatekeepers for capturing value in mobile, challenging traditional telecom business models. Successful ecosystems like Apple, Google, Amazon and others redefine markets, boost demand for complements, and bundle value around their core products. Telecom companies face disruption from this asymmetric competition as value migrates to adjacent industries. Handsets are also transitioning from a hardware to a distribution role for digital services and e-commerce.

Consumers are interested in autonomous cars but still fear letting go of the wheel completely. While traffic is a major issue for city satisfaction, autonomous vehicles may help by freeing up drivers and improving the commute experience. Those most interested in autonomous cars tend to be professionals with children who already use cars to commute. Allowing cars to be shared more easily through technologies like digital keys could change whether people own cars or use them as a service. A variety of companies from traditional automakers to technology firms and public transport providers are seen as potential future providers of autonomous mobility options.

Mobile application markets have grown significantly due to increased use of mobile devices and advances in mobile technology. As mobile commerce expands, the size of the app market is expected to grow exponentially. There are now thousands of apps available across various app stores and mobile platforms, with total industry revenues estimated to reach $27 billion by 2013. While Apple currently dominates the market, analysts predict its share will decrease to 15% by 2015 as third-party app stores capture a larger portion of sales.
M-commerce involves buying and selling goods and services using mobile devices like smartphones. While hyped for years, m-commerce is now growing rapidly as smartphone ownership increases. Companies are utilizing various mobile advertising formats like SMS, apps, and barcodes to reach consumers who are using their phones while consuming other media and making purchasing decisions. However, concerns exist around privacy and how advertising may bombard phones. Laws and payment systems may need to evolve to support m-commerce growth while balancing consumer privacy.

The document discusses the transition to the "post-PC era" as computers and devices become more ubiquitous and integrated into everyday objects and environments. It notes how Marc Weiser in 1991 envisioned a taxonomy of tabs, pads, and boards to describe different types of emerging computational devices. Today's devices are described as networked, context-aware, data-collecting, sensor-powered, and often multi-purpose in ways that were not envisioned just a few decades ago. The document argues that as our tools and devices shape us, the many computational objects being created will in a sense become extensions of ourselves, forming a new kind of distributed digital consciousness. It closes by stating that in designing for the post-PC era, the
This document discusses the rise of smartphone usage in Ireland. It notes that 37% of Irish mobile phone users now own a smartphone. Smartphone ownership is highest among younger age groups and males. The most popular smartphone brands are the iPhone, Nokia, Samsung and Blackberry. The document also examines how Irish smartphone users are using their devices for social media, apps, and mobile commerce. It predicts that smartphones will continue to drive consumer spending and economic recovery in Ireland.
The document discusses emerging technologies that will shape the future of computers, including holographic keyboards and storage, multi-touch interfaces, and biometric security using fingerprints and irises. Specific technologies highlighted are the i.Tech virtual keyboard, the small E-Ball computer, holographic data storage like Blu-Ray, Microsoft Surface tables, and biometric security applications. The future promises more portable, intuitive, and secure computing through these novel interface and storage technologies.
Quantum computers use quantum bits that can represent multiple values simultaneously, enabling faster computation than classical computers for certain problems. While scientists estimate quantum computers could be developed within two decades, challenges remain around building stable qubits and quantum processors. Nanotechnology involves manipulating matter at the atomic and molecular scales and may lead to medical and environmental applications within a decade, such as genetic therapies and pollution control, through developing subatomic electronics and compact devices.
Tablet pc will be the future of computershafia Nadeem
Tablet PCs were first attempted in the 1980s but were too large. The iPad introduced in 2010 was a successful tablet. A tablet is a portable personal computer that uses a touch screen as its primary input. While some tablets have keyboards, others only offer touchscreen input. Tablets are becoming more popular for business, education, and personal use due to their portability and touchscreen capabilities.
Strategic Management Presentation - Apple Inc.Colby Nelson
The presentation slides for a Strategic Management class at Biola University. We presented on Apple Inc. and through a semester long study came up with recommendations for Apple to implement to create more sustainable competitive advantage.
The document discusses business environmental analysis and its importance for strategic decision making. It defines business environment and explains that businesses operate in a unique environment and cannot function in isolation. The business environment includes internal factors that are controllable by the business as well as external factors from the macro and micro environment that are beyond the business's control. Conducting an analysis of the business environment is important for identifying opportunities and threats to help guide the business's growth strategy.
Network effects. It’s one of the most important concepts for business in general and especially for tech businesses, as it’s the key dynamic behind many successful software-based companies. Understanding network effects not only helps build better products, but it helps build moats and protect software companies against competitors’ eating away at their margins.
Yet what IS a network effect? How do we untangle the nuances of 'network effects' with 'marketplaces' and 'platforms'? What’s the difference between network effects, virality, supply-side economies of scale? And how do we know a company has network effects?
Most importantly, what questions can entrepreneurs and product managers ask to counter the wishful thinking and sometimes faulty assumption behind the belief that “if we build it, they will come” … and instead go about more deterministically creating network effects in their business? Because it's not a winner-take-all market by accident.
In this update of his past presentations on Mobile Eating the World -- delivered most recently at The Guardian's Changing Media Summit -- a16z’s Benedict Evans takes us through how technology is universal through mobile. Whitepaper - A Consumer Cloud Solution - White Label or BuildJ.D. Bryant
The momentum continues to build in a technology-rich society where consumers are the drivers. Lifestyle standards are changing at an accelerating speed. Global businesses need to keep up with the pace to remain players in their industry. The personal cloud is predicted to replace PCs for the majority of consumer content storage needs. Only 7 percent of digital content was stored in the personal cloud in 2011 and expected to reach 36 percent as early as 2016. The choice to enter the consumer cloud space is to buy or build. A white label consumer cloud offer is an ideal solution for businesses to enter the cloud market with minimal financial risks. It is designed to increase market share opportunities and help with customer retention. If a company buys or builds, the fact remains that harnessing the cloud is a requirement in order to compete in times ahead.

Essentials of Automations: Exploring Attributes & Automation ParametersSafe Software
Building automations in FME Flow can save time, money, and help businesses scale by eliminating data silos and providing data to stakeholders in real-time. One essential component to orchestrating complex automations is the use of attributes & automation parameters (both formerly known as “keys”). In fact, it’s unlikely you’ll ever build an Automation without using these components, but what exactly are they?
Attributes & automation parameters enable the automation author to pass data values from one automation component to the next. During this webinar, our FME Flow Specialists will cover leveraging the three types of these output attributes & parameters in FME Flow: Event, Custom, and Automation. As a bonus, they’ll also be making use of the Split-Merge Block functionality.
You’ll leave this webinar with a better understanding of how to maximize the potential of automations by making use of attributes & automation parameters, with the ultimate goal of setting your enterprise integration workflows up on autopilot.

Bram Verhoef, Head of Machine Learning at Axelera AI, presents the “How Axelera AI Uses Digital Compute-in-memory to Deliver Fast and Energy-efficient Computer Vision” tutorial at the May 2024 Embedded Vision Summit.
As artificial intelligence inference transitions from cloud environments to edge locations, computer vision applications achieve heightened responsiveness, reliability and privacy. This migration, however, introduces the challenge of operating within the stringent confines of resource constraints typical at the edge, including small form factors, low energy budgets and diminished memory and computational capacities. Axelera AI addresses these challenges through an innovative approach of performing digital computations within memory itself. This technique facilitates the realization of high-performance, energy-efficient and cost-effective computer vision capabilities at the thin and thick edge, extending the frontier of what is achievable with current technologies.
In this presentation, Verhoef unveils his company’s pioneering chip technology and demonstrates its capacity to deliver exceptional frames-per-second performance across a range of standard computer vision networks typical of applications in security, surveillance and the industrial sector. This shows that advanced computer vision can be accessible and efficient, even at the very edge of our technological ecosystem.

zkStudyClub - LatticeFold: A Lattice-based Folding Scheme and its Application...Alex Pruden
Folding is a recent technique for building efficient recursive SNARKs. Several elegant folding protocols have been proposed, such as Nova, Supernova, Hypernova, Protostar, and others. However, all of them rely on an additively homomorphic commitment scheme based on discrete log, and are therefore not post-quantum secure. In this work we present LatticeFold, the first lattice-based folding protocol based on the Module SIS problem. This folding protocol naturally leads to an efficient recursive lattice-based SNARK and an efficient PCD scheme. LatticeFold supports folding low-degree relations, such as R1CS, as well as high-degree relations, such as CCS. The key challenge is to construct a secure folding protocol that works with the Ajtai commitment scheme. The difficulty, is ensuring that extracted witnesses are low norm through many rounds of folding. We present a novel technique using the sumcheck protocol to ensure that extracted witnesses are always low norm no matter how many rounds of folding are used. Our evaluation of the final proof system suggests that it is as performant as Hypernova, while providing post-quantum security.

How information systems are built or acquired puts information, which is what they should be about, in a secondary place. Our language adapted accordingly, and we no longer talk about information systems but applications. Applications evolved in a way to break data into diverse fragments, tightly coupled with applications and expensive to integrate. The result is technical debt, which is re-paid by taking even bigger "loans", resulting in an ever-increasing technical debt. Software engineering and procurement practices work in sync with market forces to maintain this trend. This talk demonstrates how natural this situation is. The question is: can something be done to reverse the trend?
