A brand new program needs a brand new name We will go through this as we only have a small amount of time and then there will be questions at the end.
We have all been part of the journey that Healthy Habits has taken We looked at: The feedback from staff and students KFPS and other schools to see what they were doing both campuses behaviour policies engaged schools documents welfare policies
Designed for the secondary behaviour interventions. We hope to swing these behaviours by: using explicit teaching time focus on habits using the same language and mantras Positive role models Making it visually stimulating Promoting and emphasising the program Having a whole school approach Making it community based Communicating openly
Classes can choose to join up with others or do team celebrations Whole school celebration will be a 'big focus' Keeping it monthly allows for easy organisation and being able to follow it. "In July we pick up our equipment"
Each class will be given incident posters to display in their classroom. Up to class teachers how they are used, whether you add names or refer to them. It is expected that teachers will give explicit teaching but this will be supported with a range of ideas each month. There will be a mantra that relates to each habit.
Having a child name down as an incident is the consequence. It should fit this. Therefore if a child is suspended this is the consequence so they cant have two. This fits with our purpose Kids can see a clear and appropriate consequence Share some examples - using common sense Name calling - Calling someone a name that then results in a fight. Could lose a cross for the name calling and then a different consequence for the fight. Could have stopped. Throwing the ball - child kicks a ball over the fence and goes out on the road without permission. This requires a consequence that fits the action, not an incident. If a child swears 5 times this can not be 5 incidents.
These will eventually be recorded in a data program. Unfortunately we don't have this at the moment so it will be up to classroom teachers to record it until the end of term 3. We will have a duplicate book made up so you can write the incident quickly and notify teacher in pigeon hole At the end of the week we will enter this data. Teachers and campus leaders will be responsible for monitoring and chatting to students who lie at two incidents. There will be proformas to send home when children have had two incidents, asking for parents to discuss with child.
We will have a special assembly on the 1st (or close to) each month. Led by Campus leaders to talk solely about the habit. Kids can bring lunch so no interuption. Possiblility of asking special visitors to come and give a two minute chat. A letter will go home to inform parents of the habit. We will advertise the habit in the newsletter and on the website. Students will take a small gift home - eg bookmark, balloon, magnet, door hanger with the focus. When an announcement is made - ends with at LRPS we ......
We can change behaviour if we all work together All need to work together
Teacher packs will be in pigeon holes on the first day back. Could the program fliers go to parents at 3 way conferences? Discuss with parent if required Some things will be put in place for this - checklists for borrowing sports equipment with teachers checking etc.
