Essay On Wild Life Protection
Crafting an essay on the subject of wildlife protection presents a multifaceted challenge that
demands a comprehensive understanding of ecological intricacies, environmental science, and
conservation principles. The complexity lies not only in the need for thorough research but also in
the delicate balance between providing insightful information and fostering a sense of urgency
and responsibility in the reader.
To tackle this topic effectively, one must delve into the myriad issues threatening wildlife,
ranging from habitat loss and climate change to poaching and pollution. Addressing each of
these facets requires a nuanced approach, as it involves navigating through a sea of statistics,
scientific studies, and legislative frameworks. Furthermore, the emotional aspect of conveying
the urgency of wildlife protection without succumbing to sensationalism adds an additional layer
of difficulty.
Crafting a well-rounded essay involves weaving together scientific facts, real-life examples, and
compelling narratives to engage the reader on both an intellectual and emotional level. The
challenge lies in striking the right balance between informative content and a persuasive tone that
motivates readers to take action. This requires a delicate dance between presenting the harsh
realities of the current state of wildlife and instilling hope for a positive change.
Moreover, constructing a cohesive essay involves careful consideration of structure, ensuring that
each paragraph seamlessly flows into the next, building a persuasive argument. Juggling the
technicalities of grammar, syntax, and vocabulary adds another layer of intricacy to the task.
In conclusion, writing an essay on wildlife protection demands a synthesis of scientific
knowledge, environmental awareness, and persuasive communication skills. It is a challenging
endeavor that requires dedication, research, and a passion for conservation. However, the
importance of addressing the critical issues facing wildlife makes the effort not only worthwhile
but essential for fostering a sustainable future.

The Pros And Cons Of Terrorism
Terrorism is a word that holds an awful lot of weight in the modern world and often
brings to mind senseless acts of violence created by a handful of irrational people of
the society. Terrorism however, is a military strategy that brings with itself many
advantages, and has been used to gain independence from oppressive nations on
multiple occasions. Terrorismis often used when two forces are unevenly matched in
war. When nations are placed between a rock and a hard place even the most
rational people will result to terrorist tactics. By terrorism, this is meaning non state
actors that are using non traditional guerilla warfare tactics as military aid in a time
of conflict. The military conflict that occurred in The Battle of Algiers, was just that
kind of terrorism. The movie showed terrorism benefiting the Algerians, and begged
the audience members to ask the question of who was really in the right. The
Algerians were simply outmatched and outgunned, if they ever had a shot at winning
they would have to rethink the playbook. This illustrates the main advantage of
terrorism is that it gives oppressed and underrepresented people groups leverage to
liberate themselves. This is driven by the fact that we live in a world where bullets
can not kill an idea. Great ideas, and great governments for that matter, oftentimes don
t come only to nations with military might. The Algerians sought independence
because they saw a positive future where they were not ruled by the French
Mythology in the Ancient World
Myths exist in every part of the world and are an integral part of the culture and
identity. Ancient societies relied heavily on mythology to entertain, to answer
questions, to explain and to implement social expectations. But most importantly, it
allowed these people to explain the creation of the universe, the birth of mankind, the
forces of nature, human condition and the purpose of life. As a result, myths can be
considered essential for certain groups of peoples to explain the powerful forces that
shape and affect their lives. These are evident in the mythology of Rome, Greece,
Christian myths, the Norse mythologies and the myths of Mesopotamia. Most ancient
myths are often stories of origins, dreams, archetypes, metaphysical aspects,... Show

The Völuspá states that Odin and his brothers made the first man and first woman
out of an ash tree and an elm tree. (Internet 6) Odin gave man life, intelligence, and
beauty. From Norse mythology, a poem called Völuspá, confirms this about the
creation of the world:
When Ymir lived long ago
Was no sand or sea, no surging waves.
Nowhere was there earth nor heaven above.
Bur a grinning gap and grass nowhere.
The sons of Bur then built up the lands.
Moulded in magnificence middle Earth:
Sun stared from the south on the stones of their hall,
From the ground there sprouted green leeks.
(Völuspá The Song of the Sybil)
Odin created the universe in three levels similar to the Greeks and Romans with
heaven and the Underworld. Correspondingly, other aspects of the world like the
sun, the moon and stars, are also explained. They are explained by sparks and from
this, the gods regulated the days and nights and also the seasons. But just like the
Greek interpretation, the sun a god, SГіl. It is said that she rides through the sky on
her chariot and is chased by a wolf. The moon is SГіl s brother called MГЎni who is
also chased by a wolf. The Norse myths also explained why the strength of the sun
doesn t kill them because of the shield, Svalinn, which is placed before SГіl. All this
attributed to their theory of the world just like it did for the Greeks and the Romans.

Introduction
The purpose of the experiment is to determine the enthalpy of neutralization reactions
by calorimetry. Calorimetry, is the science of measuring the amount of heat. All
calorimetric techniques are therefore based on the measurement of heat that may be
generated (exothermic process) or consumed (endothermic process). The device used
for measuring the heat changes in this experiment is called calorimeter. A calorimeter
is a Styrofoam cup is used as a calorimeter, because it is a container with good
insulated walls to prevent heat exchange with the environment.

Abraham Lincoln Essay
Abraham Lincoln Abraham Lincoln was the 16Th President of America. He was the
first republican that was elected as President. He ran for senate two times and lost
both. When he was in office he was mostly occupied with the states that broke away
from the Union, who was named the Confederate States of America. The first to break
away was South Carolina followed by 6 other states before the inauguration of
Abraham Lincoln. And then four more at the beginning of the Civil War,Battle of
Fort Sumter. Lincoln was inaugurated into office in March of 1861. Lincoln was
one of the reasons the pro slavery states broke away, they where afraid that Lincoln

Lincoln had made the Emancipation Proclamation, which banned slavery to the
CSA(Confederate States of America)that didn t come back to the Union by Jan 1,
1863. It also named the states it applied to. But it didn t name the boarder states of
Kentucky, Missouri, Maryland and Delaware because those states did not actually
declare secession so they didn t free any slaves in those states at the time. They also
didn t name Tennessee because it was mostly back to the Union by then. Most slaves
where not let go immediately but the Act freed thousands of slaves.
Lincoln thought people would think that the Emancipation Proclamation would be
only temporary due to the war and be soon forgotten. So what Abraham did is he
made the 13Th Amendment. The 13Th Amendment stated that slavery was illegal to
all states, and also that it is illegal to make people work against their will to benefit
themselves,which is called involuntary servitude.
The C.S.A collapsed when generals Robert E.Lee and Joesph E. Johnston
surrendered their armies over to the Union. Later the Union soldiers captured
Jefferson Davis(The Confederate President) on May of 1865. At almost the end of
the war Lincoln had a very reasonable view on what the nation

The World Of The Gospels A Miracle
Miracle stories were accepted by ancient people as possible. The divine interacted
with human kind. This contrasts with the contemporary scepticism about the sacred
or the possibility of miracles. In the light of scientific, data driven, technological
preoccupation, miracles seem to be unnecessary. The gap between humankind and the
divine has widened to the point of being irrelevant, unnecessary or non existent.
However, in the world of the gospels a miraclewas anything that caused people to
wonder (Latin miraculum to wonder; mirari to wonder at) or be in awe. According
to John Meier (A marginal Jew, Vol 2:512) a miracle is an unusual startling or
extraordinary event that is in principle perceivable by any interested and fair
minded observer, and event that finds no reasonable explanation in human abilities
or in other known forces that operate in our world of time and space and an event
that is the result of a special act of God, doing what no human power can do . There
are two elements to a miracle one which causes wonder, one that is extraordinary
phenomenon that is inexplicable in terms of familiar, everyday causation. This is
ascribe to a superhuman force. What demarcates the extraordinary varies from people
to people, culture to culture and age to age.
In the NT miracle accounts are not unique in the Greco Roman world. What was
distinguishable in their reference to the divine; they are attributed not to deities in a
polytheism but to the one God of the Jewish
The Works Of Rembrandt And Rubens
The Works of Rembrandt and Rubens
During the 17th century, especially after their break from Spain, The United
Provinces of the Netherlands became the most prosperous nation in Europe by
leading the world in trade, science, and art. Through the huge and one of the first art
markets, art became a common household possession and allowed artists to freely
express themselves, which is one of the evidential factors in three of the most
universally admired artists of the baroque art era. Rubens, an influential Flemish artist
of the Italian baroque scene, focused more on the works of the counter reformation
while the masters of the Dutch baroque art, such as Rembrandt, were in the heart of
the protestant Dutch Republic. These three artists share similar artistic styles but yet
have extremely evident differences and influences. The artists work also have a great
portrayal of the historical and social impacts of the 17th century.
This dynamic century shaped much of the modern world of today. With all the great
scientific discoveries and the recent protestant reformation, the world no longer
revolved around religious devotion and mysticism but had a stronger focus on
individuality. The laws of nature and observation by reasoning proved that everyone
is capable of observing the world through mathematics, logic, and experimentation.
Another major characteristic of the 17th century is the major political decisions and
the international struggle for colonial domination. Colonialism was
Who Is The Conch In Lord Of The Flies
Imagine you are trapped on a deserted island with no adults. In William Golding s
book Lord of the Flies this group of boys had recently been in a plane crash and no
adults survived. They crashed into a random island with no resources, parents, or
even shelter. They had to learn to get along with one another and create a decent
civilization where they had a leader. The way they were able to accomplish this was
by having a shell that they would blow into to call everybody for a meeting. In Lord
of The Flies by William Golding, the conch changed from unity to disaster.
At the beginning of the story, the boys used the conch for power and unity. Piggy
is talking to Ralph and they are trying to find out who is on the island. What Piggy
said to Ralph was, We can use this to call the others. Have a meeting. They ll come
when they hear us (Golding 16). Piggy was saying this because they had just found a
conch on the island. He was stating how they could use it. Not too long later they ...

because he couldn t see anything. What Piggy had said to Ralph after this had
happened was, I thought they wanted the conch. Ralph trotted down the pale beach
and jumped on to the platform. The conch still glimmered by the chief s seat
(Golding 168). Piggy said this to Ralph because he was in shock from the boys just
attacking him and taking his glasses. Towards the end of the novel, Piggy decided
to go to there base and try to get his glasses back in trade for the conch. When he
was there, The conch exploded into a thousand white fragments and ceased to exist
(Golding 181). This happened when Piggy was crushed by the boulder and he had
the conch in his hand. This was how the conch had symbolized evil and war at the
end of the story because they killed Piggy since they were so mad at his group of

Comparing O Brien s The Things They Carried and Ninh s The Sorrow of War
Bao Ninh s The Sorrow of War is a contrapuntal reading to American literature on the
Vietnam War. But rather than stand in stark contrast to Tim O Brien s The Things
They Carried, The Sorrow of War is strangely similar, yet different at the same time.
From a post colonialist standpoint, one must take in account both works to get an
accurate image of the war. The Sorrow of War is an excellent counterpoint because it
is truthful. Tim O Brien writes: . . . you can tell a true war story by its absolute and
uncompromising allegiance to obscenity and evil. (O Brien, 42) Bao Ninh succeeds in
this respect. And it was for this reason that the Vietnamese... Show more content on

Not only were American soldiers well muscled and athletes, (191) but some of them
were black. Whites were not particularly strange, as Vietnam had been under French
rule, but blacks must have been something of a frightening, unfamiliar novelty. This
too is reflected in the text. When Kien and Hoa encounter an American platoon in the
jungle, the blacks in the platoon are the first thing Kien describes, after describing
what was not a man, but a tracker dog as big as a calf. (189) And when the soldiers
smoke rosa canina, one of the things they hallucinate is groups of headless black
American soldiers right along with hallucinations about fantastic creatures and extinct
animal species. With these counterpoints to the American views of Vietnamese
soldiers, an American certainly gets a different picture of the war.
Bao Ninh s portrayal of postwar Vietnam also fosters a more objective viewpoint of
the war. After the war, the Americans took their twisted memories back home, to an
unscathed country where nearly everyone had something to go back to. For North
Vietnamese soldiers, home was where the horror had been, and in many ways still
was. He is plain in his message: The recent years of war had brought enough
suffering and pain to last them a thousand years. (75) Kien s slow, painful demise is
brought on by the heavy sorrow of war as he is haunted by an eternal past. (88)
During the war North Vietnamese soldiers were but insects or an ant who

Greed In The Poem Hotel California
In the lyric poem Hotel California by The Eagles, the speaker tells the story of a
man succumbing to greed and self temptation and how he is forever trapped by
that greed in a place that is impossible to leave and go back to where he was before.
The poem uses the poetic device of symbolism by using the hotel as a place where
one goes when trapped by their greed. Once the man has experienced what he
wants, he is trapped in a place he cannot leave, shown as a hotel that is impossible to
leave in the poem. He begins conflicted about being greedy, ends up enjoying it, but
then figures out he s trapped forever by it.
The poem begins by telling the story of the man riding down a road when he sees a
light in the distance. He sees a girl standing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

They stab it with their steely knives, But they just can t kill the beast, (The Eagles
stanza 4, lines 6 and 7). The speaker notes that succumbing to greed is our own
fault and that we trap ourselves in our greed. We are all just prisoners here, of our
own device, (The Eagles stanza 4, line 3). The second to last stanza of the poem
describes the man trying to escape of his greed. It says he is running for the door,
trying to get back to the place he was before. He has realized how badly his greed
has ruined his life and tries to go back to being the normal man he was previously.
But once people have experienced greediness and what they wanted, it is
impossible to get out of the trap they buried themselves in. The poem states that

The Involvement Of The Middle East
Millions of lives have been lost, including innocent civilians, opposing forces, and
U.S. troops and its allies. Trillions of dollars have been spent on the involvement in
the Middle East for decades by the United States government, which orchestrated
these results. The burden financially, has been measured in trillions of dollars, on
multiple expenses, all relating to the involvement in the Middle East. Not only have
these events impacted the U.S. financially, but many people have had to pay the
ultimate price, with millions of people dying as a direct result. From the Afghanistan

This event led to the creation of a weapons pipeline between these Arab nations
because the U.S. insisted that the nations use the money they gained from the
embargo on U.S. weapons (Jones). The U.S. received about $22 billion in weapons
sales from the Middle Eastern countries in total, which does not even come close to
offsetting the money that was paid, and the money that was made came at severe
costs. The consequences of this include the militarization of the countries that the
weapons were sold and led to an evident rise in tension within the region, specifically
between Iraq and Iran. The trillions that have been accumulated will not only hurt
us today but will affect us financially for years to come. The intervention in the
Middle East, also known as the War on Terror, has led to hundreds of thousands of
deaths. There have been about 350,000 deaths resulting from the Iraq and
Afghanistan wars alone (Home). Those deaths can be broken down into 220,000
civilians, 88,024 opposing forces, 6,802 U.S. military and 6,787 U.S. contractors.
Experts estimate that the death totals may be higher than what has been reported.
Millions of people have been displaced by the wars, with an estimated 6.7 million
people being displaced from their homes (Funk). Hundreds of drone strikes have been
used in countries that the U.S. has not had
Advantage Of Polished Concrete Floor
Concrete Floor
Concrete floor is one of the most durable materials in the world. It can be made with
waste products which help to reduce the consumption of valuable materials. It also
can be made from fly ash, slag cement, and silica fume, all waste byproducts from
steel mills, power plants and other manufacturing facilities.
There are the several types of concrete floor styles that can be stamped, stained and
polished. But the choice for the employee locker room will be a polished concrete
floor. For my opinion, polished floor will be suitable because it is economical,
durable, versatile, affordable, low maintenance and is a long lasting floor as show
in figure 1 (Ref.1). Polished concrete floor is made from an aggregate (rocks, river
stones and granite chips) which is mixed with a cement binder such as limestone,
calcium, sulphate and water.

convenient for maintenance as we do not need to clean the floor with a vacuum

awful reputation because of the products on the market that have been fabricated by
low price point. If you want to avoid the risk that you might buy the cheap rubbish

Tissue Engineering Essays
Tissue Engineering
Tissue engineering, labeled by Time.com as the number one hottest job for the 21st
century, holds great potential for medicine and the treatment of chronic diseases and
disorders. With tissue engineering, familiar problems like the rejection of foreign
tissue by the body, the severe shortage of organ donors, and the inefficiency of
artificial devices may be solved. However, this cutting edge biotechnology has
already spurred intense controversy over the ethics and morality of creating spare
human body parts.
The goal of tissue engineering is to grow tissues and neo organs that can be used for
transplants. Tissue engineers must first decide what type of cell they want to use and
stimulate to grow. Because animal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition to giving the growing cells a shape to grow into, the scaffold distributes
the cells about 2 3 mm apart and allows the cells better access to nutrients and
means of waste removal, which is important when trying to grow an evenly
distributed functioning organ. For larger, solid organs, such as the liver, pancreas,
and kidneys, blood vessels need to be created so the organs have adequate blood
supply. By covering the engineered organs with growth factors, angiogenesis, the
formation of new vasculature, can be prompted.
Although tissue engineers and researchers have already succeeded with creating
new skin, blood vessels, bone and cartilage, the more complex organs are difficult
to reproduce because of their different functions. Researchers must also be
concerned with the mechanisms of growing the tissue. For instance, the advantages
and disadvantages are not yet clear for the length of time the cells should be
exposed to the growth factors or the difference between growing the tissue outside
the body or implanting the scaffold inside the body and letting the tissue grow
there. Scaffolding and injectable polymers that form scaffolds in irregular areas
(like bone fractures) are also being improved. Much more research is being
conducted in order to grow the hearts, livers, breasts, kidneys, and other valuable
organs that so many people need.
Although tissue engineering has great application for helping ill patients, it

Pornography on the Internet Essay
Pornography on the Internet
The Internet is a method of communication and a source of information that is
becoming popular among those who are interested in the information superhighway.
The problem with this world we know as Cyberspace, the Net, or the Web is that
some of this information, including pornographical material and hate literature, is
being accessible to minors.
Did you know that 83.5% of the images available on the Internet are pornographical?
Did you know that the Internet s pornography and hate literature are available to
curious children that happen to bump into them?

Oklahoma City Bombing Research Paper
In 1995, it all started as a peaceful Wednesday morning. People were starting work
or just waking up in Oklahoma City. While all these peoples days were starting, a
young male parked a yellow truck outside of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building.
That day, everyone s life in that building changed forever. The effects of the April
19,1995 bombing were more than just physical to the survivors of this horrific event.
The incident was planned a year before the bombing, in an old trailer in Kingman
Arizona between an ex military man named Timothy McVeigh, and some of his
military friends (Casey). McVeigh was just like any other boy growing up. He was
into toys and sports, but he was very into guns. When he was older, he joined the
army and was the top of his squadron. After given the opportunity to join the Green
Berets but not meeting up to their standards, he left the army and tried to become a
worker. During this time, he followed his hobby for guns and joined many militias.

Comparing Coachella, Larkfest And The Marley Fast
Festivals make so much money in the beginning of the year. Festivals like
Coachella, LarkFest, and The Marley Fest are the most popular in the country. Most
parents give their teenagers festival tickets as a christmas present so they can have
fun. What most parents don t know is that in the festivals their kids can easily smoke
and drink. The festivals are the most popular because it is easy for young adults to
consume drugs. The LarkFest is an example of how easy young adults can get
alcoholic beverages. Larkfest has relaxed on the I.D. policy for purchasing drugs and
alcohol.
Coachella is most known for the consumption of cocaine and use of marijuana.

I understand that venders at the festivals will lose profit but it is the law that they
shouldn t sell drugs or alcohol to underage drinkers. I would focus on the I.D. policy
and not care about the money because I know I would be saving teenage lives. That
would be the ethical thing to do. I think that the publishing of drugs should be banned
from sites that teens might use. They should publish the Festival drugs but on adult
websites.
Does my decision harm anyone? I don t think my choice harms anyone because
people can still sell but they should be aware of the I.D. policy. The vendors lose
profit but they will be helping teenage lives.
My fifth step I cannot prove because no one has seen my decision. To conclude my
research I never thought that underage drinking and smoking was a common case

Structure Of Eleven By Sandra Cisneros
Structure of Essay Eleven Sandra Cisneros story Eleven is an influential piece
about the struggle of Rachael on her eleventh birthday. Rachael is a young girl
who is harassed with understanding how to feel about her birthday, a day which is
delightful for most but not for her. She fights through her age and maturity to be
understood, but fails. Told from an insightful first person Eleven contains
simplistic diction and a good use of similes to characterize Rachael as a neglected
and sad girl with an advanced outlook on birthdays Rachael starts by talking about
how people carry every year with them. She says some days you might say
something stupid and that s the part of you that s still ten, or one day you may
need to sit on your mama s lap because you re scared and that s the part of you that

As she goes back to her child form, Rachael describes what seems to be a simple

Family Roles And Characteristics Of Japanese And

Japanese and American culture differs in a plethora of ways, but also have several
similarities, Showing that no matter how different people are they still have some
sort of common ground. Japanese culture is based off of long held traditions that are
derived from ancient Japan. American culture, however, is ever changing due to the
nature of American society. Japanese culturefavors those who conform, while
punishing those who are different. On the other end of the spectrum, American
culture applauds those who are different. Japanese and American cultures have
drastically different social hierarchy and familyroles while still having similarities in
pop culture. The fundamentals of Japanese and American social hierarchy are
different. In Japan the social structure is based off of a hierarchy, and older people
are treated with more respect than younger people. On the other hand, in the USA
social status is derived from multiple factors; age not being one of them. In addition
to the way social status is decided in Japan, the way people treat each other is also
vastly different than in the USA. In Japan people treat each other with much more
respect and curtsy than in the USA. furthermore the hierarchal nature of Japanese
society even extends into the business world. An excerpt from the textbook, Global
Business Language, shows this: They want to know who has the higher social status

Walter Neff s The American Hard-Boiled Detective
The American hard boiled detective was an alternative character to the traditional
murder mystery film. This new type of character was ideal for the new noir films
that Hollywood directors were starting to produce. These films introduced audiences
to a new type of dark and cynical world, in which the character needed to add to the
chaos their good or ill intentions. The hard boiled detective has the same patterns of
the classical detective story. It too has the introduction of the detection, the
presentation of crime and investigation, which leads to a solution and or arrest of the

History Of The Aztec Calendar
The Aztec Calendar was carved in 1479. The Calendar was dedicated to the sun
god. It is 3 feet thick, is about 12 feet across, and weighs almost 25 tones. The Aztec
Calendar is a reflection of the Aztecs Pharisaical understanding of time and space.
The Aztecs, along with many of societies at this time believed that time went in
cycles. Now, the Calendar consists of more than just one wheel rather it is a
combination of two wheels. The first Calendar is known to the Aztecs as
Xiuhpohualli. The second being Tonalpohualli. Today I will be expanding on so of
the known surrounding the Azteccalendar.
The Aztec calendar played a big role in the complex system of religious beliefs and
ceremonies that consisted of ritualized warfare and human sacrifice
The World Of The Room Bedroom Of A Teenager

group of isolated geniuses breaks the silence in the building as computer programmers
return from lunch. They are writing in a language of number, rather than letters, that
is essential to communicate with the machines that are critical to life in the 21st
century.
Hackers or other lonely individuals with terrible social skills are the first thought
that comes to people s mind when thinking of coders. However, this stereotype can
easily be disproven with one visit to the coding department at Sprint. When first
entering the building, it is abundantly clear that this is not the dark upstairs
bedroom of a teenager. The massive glass sculpture of the Sprint logo in the
middle of the lobby is impressive and awe inspiring. On the floor where the coding
is done, large glass panels over the desks provide an open and modern design in the
center of the room. On one side of the office, the entire wall is composed of
windows which allow for sunlight to flood the facility. The other three walls house
modern art and sculptures, as well as doorways which lead into private work and
conference rooms. It is not just the beauty of the workplace that is enough to crack
the stereotype associated with coders, but rather, the people.
Mr. Richard N. Jefferson, one of the heads of the coding department at Sprint, has
been working for the company for nearly thirty years. Although many employees and

Dysfunction In American Beauty
American Beauty What is it saying about the pursuit of the American Dream?
The portrayal of an American family as shown in the movie, American Beauty, is one
of dysfunction. In fact, the homosexual couple is the only family that seem to display
somewhat normal behavior. As a non traditional family, the homosexual couple
appear connected, loving, and very happy. Most importantly, they demonstrate great
respect for each other, something the heterosexual families do not. This non
traditional family is seen in small doses throughout the movie. However, the families
that are prominently displayed for the majority of the movie are The Burnhams and
The Fitts; the so called normal family unit. What is striking about this display of
normalcy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Burnhams strive to follow a modern version of the American Dream . The
father, Lester, has taken a passive role in the family and is viewed as feeble by both
his daughter and wife. His wife, Carolyn, sees herself as a strong and independent
working woman. Her own insecurities become more obvious throughout the film. She
must have a beautiful single family home in a suburban neighborhood, a successful
career, and a display of perfectly groomed roses that line her fence. Carolyn has
insecurities that run deep. She often catches herself in a weak, emotional moment
where she feels inferior. A quote from Carolyn, My company sells an image. It s
part of my job to live that image. I interpreted this quote as how she views life on a
global scale. This is her American Dream and her own happiness. Janey Burnham,
Lester and Carolyn s daughter, is shown at the beginning of the film viewing
articles online for breast augmentation. This reveals her low self esteem and desire
towards a perfect image. Janey feels as though she doesn t live up to the standards
of what a young teenager should look like. Throughout the film, the viewer sees
Janey redefine her idea of perfection and her growing sense of
Therapeutic Modalities
Using therapeutic modalities is not a new thing in the world. There is evidence it
has been being used since ancient Greek and Roman times. A therapeutic modality is
using a device that helps treat a patient. Examples of commonly used modalities are
heat, cold, massage, or ultrasound. Although therapeutic modalities are the commonly
accepted term for this things, some people do believe that I would be more
accurately described with the name physical agents. Physical agents mean doing a
treatment that results in a change to the patient s body. No matter what you call it, it
is important to understand that you must have formal preparation to use it. Doing so
will make sure you are using the forms as safely as possible and not causing harm.

The Incidents In The Life Of A Slave Girl
During the period of slavery in early American History, there were multiple sources
that expressed the enthralling events that happened during the time of slavery. The
intensity of the enslavement experience was dictated upon the horrors of slavery
and gender roles. The Narrative Of The Life Of Frederick Douglass and The

events that happened.

This quote was shortened but it went on to explain his worries about the future.
Douglass was worried about getting sold to another master that would treat him worse

After death of her grandmother. I was old enough to begin to think of the future;
and again I asked myself what they would do with me. ( Jacobs Pg 14) In both of
their experiences of slave master and mistress passing away they both experienced
the same fears. What is going to happen to me? Where am I going to go and how
am I going to be treated? In their own opinion, being sold to another slave master is
detrimental to them. They do not want to go anywhere else because they grew up
with their original and don t know how life would be different with another owner.
The cold heartedness of slave owners during the time of slavery did anything that
would create a statement. Especially punishement. I have often been been awaken

Functionalist Perspective In Pleasantville
The film Pleasantville had displayed a lot of importance in such a way we can
relate to the past, up until now. This film had given many examples of different
perspectives that I was able to capture and connect to. Although this film took
place a while back, the director of this movie casted actors and actresses that are
acting in present movies today. While these actors and actresses played their part,
they portrayed their character in such a way where I was able to grasp and add my
opinions of perspectives of what was going on. This filmwas mostly about change,
so it was easier to get my personal opinions of this show. I was aware to find three
perspectives in this film which were a functionalist perspective, internationalist
perspective, and conflict perspective. Functionalist perspective is a perspective
where everyone contributes to society. There is an approach that emphasizes the
contributions made by each part of the society. In this film I made a connection, a
functionalist perspective where David (Bud Parker) contributes to help put out the
tree that was caught on fire. He contributed to help the fire fighters because in
Pleasantville, there were no such thing as fires . So when he helped them out, by
showing them how to use the water hose he became a hero to the society. Later that
day when people heard about his outrageous action they wanted in on how he knew
about the fire and what to do about it. Another functionalist perspective I had was
when later in the
Eyewitness Identification And Eyewitness Fingerprints
Eyewitness testimonies provide crucial evidence in pinpointing the identity of the
perpetrator in order to solve a crime, thus the criminal justice system depends upon
the accuracy of eyewitness identification to investigate and prosecute criminals.
However, eyewitness identification is imperfect and the leading cause of wrongful
convictions (Huff, Rattner, Sagarin, 1996; Scheck, Neufeld, Dwyer, 2000). One
prominent method of eyewitness identification is a line up procedure during which A
line up is a procedure in which a criminal suspect(or a picture of the suspect) is
placed among other people (or pictures of other people) and shown to an eyewitness
to see if the witness will identify the suspect as the culprit in question (Wells... Show

Lindsay and Wells (1985) devised an alternative line up presentation procedure to
reduce the tendency of eyewitnesses to rely on relative judgment. A Sequential Line
Up (SEQ) presents the eyewitness with only one suspect at a time and they respond
to each suspect with either a positive identification or none (Wells Olson, 2003). It
was proposed that reasoned that this procedure may raise participants response
criterion and evoke a more absolute criterion (i.e., Is this the perpetrator or not?)
rather than the similarity based relative judgment criterion, thereby alleviating the
simultaneous bias (Ebbesen Flowe, 2002; Lindsay Wells, 1985). To compare the
SEQ and SIM line ups Lindsay and Wells (1985) used two conditions; a target absent
line up, in which one an innocent suspect is embedded among fillers, and a target
present line up in which the guilty suspect is embedded among fillers. This data
found that the SIM and SEQ procedures produced nearly identical correct
identification rates in the target present trial whereas in the target absent condition
the rate of mistaken identifications the rate was 43% with the SIM procedure and
only 17% with the SEQ method (Lindsay et al., 1991). Compared to SIM
presentation, SEQ line up presentation did not significantly influence the correct
identification rate but
Assess the Potential of Three Sources of Renewable Energy...
After experiencing the replacement of manual and animal labour by steam engines
in the Industrial Revolution, cheap fossil fuels then became the main source of
energy. However, faced with the notable increase demand for energy, fossil fuel, as
a non renewable resource becomes scarcer and more expensive nowadays. To solve
this problem, the world needs to replace fossil fuels with other sources of energy
which are relatively low cost and more secure. Renewable energyis such a potential
energy. This essay will give an outline of three sources of renewable energy to be

Other developing nations such as Mexico, India, Egypt, etc are now making great
efforts. Admittedly, it will be worth an investment if the expense continues to fall
down to an acceptable extent, as predicted (Aringhoff et al, 2005; Seitz, 2002; and
Middleton, 2003).
As another renewable energy widely used, wind power, which is now mainly used
for generating electricity today, has been used for thousands of years powering
human activities. Unlike solar energy previously mentioned, wind is caused by the
uneven heating of the earth s surface by the sun so that wind energy is an indirect
form of solar energy (Volker, 2005). Wind is called a renewable energy source owing
to the infinite sun shines.
However, one crucial part of establishing a wind power system is high technology,
which is now the main defect in the developing world. Even in some developed
countries such as Demark, lack of expert engineers in the wind industry is noticeable.
It is convincingly argues that there is quite an engineering challenge especially for
the less developed nations to design an efficient wind turbine harnessing energy and
turning it into electricity. In addition, it seems rather a challenge to offer
opportunities for technology transfer, training and practical experience for the
industry and potential wind energy supporting industries and organisations for the
current developing world.
Contributions made by wind energy seem mainly to be the

Further, the US government, precisely the Department of Energy, is ready to fund
half of Ford s project on BEVs and PHEVs. Ford expects that once started, the
hybrid mass production will reduce current total production costs by 30%.
Meanwhile, Ford targets a change in its product portfolio which increasingly
allocates more weight to cars amp; crossovers rather than trucks and SUVs, from
48% in 2007 to 60% in 2010, and increases its investment allocation from 59% in
2007 to 82% in 2010 for cars amp; crossovers as well(see Figure 6). These models
will help US consumers to achieve substantial savings for gasoline, while being
environmentally friendly. Planned to be fully implemented in 2020, BEVs are
designed to aim for zero emission since they run purely on electricity power.
Furthermore, Ford promise that the driving experience of electrified vehicles will
not be compromised. Ford believes that it will achieve economies of scale, once the

the division to see where any possible issues may occur and iron them out. From
there they could begin implementing them in other more profitable divisions and
slowly turn them all into independent operations.
I suggested starting with the most profitable divisions first due to the fact that they
are financially stable and would be able to handle any issues that may arise during
this transition. They would be the most resilient to change and would be a good
model for all the other division to see what is to come and what changes to expect.
Case Analysis:
Key Issues:
Change was the main issue of this case. TMS was expected to change from a
centralized company to a decentralized company. They wanted their GM s to be
more responsible for what was happening in their divisions, not only their successes,
but their failures to. The GM s were to take over the finance, human resources,
marketing, and port of entry operations. TMC felt that this would make them look at
long term goals,
Advantages And Disadvantages Of Reciprocating
Compressors
For lower flow rates during holding mode, reciprocating compressors are usually a
good fit because of their efficient turndown capabilities. They cater to a wider range
of flow rates than any other compressor type.
For large scale terminals, to cater higher BoG flow rate during unloading,
centrifugal compressors are appropriate. Multiple (2 or 3) compressors are installed
in parallel so that shutdown of any one of them does not hamper the operation.
Depending on the tank type, reciprocating compressors can be used if the tank is
concrete roof tank. Those tanks generally are operated at higher pressures and
therefore, vapour generation is significantly low and hence reciprocating compressors
can be used even for unloading mode.

The simple and modular design of SCV s make capital cost of SCV s much lower
than ORV s. But, operating cost of SCV s is much higher than ORV s because of use
of natural gas as a fuel. Typically about 1.5% of the vaporized LNG is used up for
running SCV s.
пѓ Shell and tube vaporizers
Shell and tube vaporizers (STV) involve 2 levels of heat transfer, where, first level is
heat exchange between LNG and intermediate fluid like propane and the second
level is heat exchange between intermediate fluid and sea water. The surface areas
of the heat exchangers are optimized to have maximum heat exchange. The major
advantage of STV s is, they prevent freezing (unlike ORV s) and reduce fouling
risks. But of course, they are costly because of use of intermediate fluid like propane.
пѓ Ambient air vaporizers
The emissions because of SCV s and unknowns associated with ORV s has made
companies focus on something which is reliable and cheap and renewable and
hence, companies are focussing on ambient air vaporizers which use ambient air
as a source of heat transfer. The technology of using ambient air for LNG
vaporization was there in the market before, but for smaller scales. The recent
advancements has made it possible to use it at larger scales as well. The impact of
temperature and climate is an important factor for designing ambient air vaporizers.
The technology is considered green because it has no emissions and makes use of
solar heat stored in air as a heat transfer
Persuasive Speech On Aliens
After speaking with me a little, it doesn t take long to realize I am a giant nerd. I
love Science Fiction and I never turn down a good Outer Limits or Doctor Who
marathon. It makes my heart beat fast when I hear the words There is nothing wrong
with your television set. Do not attempt to adjust the picture. We are controlling
transmission or Are you my mummy? Just thinking about it now makes me a bit
giddy.
Recently, I was very excited to be a part of a discussion on aliens. The topic was
What if the aliens were actually watching us? Even further, what if they were
watching us and judging us based on how we treat people with disabilities. Perhaps
that s why aliens haven t communicated with us. Why people with disabilities
though? Think about it. People with disabilities are an incredibly diverse community.

Not all aliens speak or can speak, hear or see. There are aliens with differing
mobility, size and shape. Old school aliens from movies set in the 50 s all used
telepathy. The aliens from the Alienfranchise do not have eyes and rely on sound to
stalk their prey. Chewbacca is nonverbal but uses a limited amount of noises and
physical gestures to communicate. Author Temple Grandin mentioned in an
interview that she loved the character of Mr. Spock because his ability to act
without emotion made it more possible for him to save the day where Captain
Kirk could not. While the show was airing, Leonard Nimoy was often applauded
for his character s parallels to the life of an autistic person s. It s not a stretch to say
that many aliens have similar backgrounds to people with disabilities. I would be
curious to know if they face the same ignorance and prejudice that people on Earth
often do because of their
The Three Body Problem Summary
In the most recent edition of The Atlantic, senior editor Ross Anderson brings the
readers on a fascinating journey into the remote countryside of southwest China,
where the largest and most sensitive radio dish in the world is located. The dish s
purpose is to serve as the Earth s first custom built observatory to detect message
from an extraterrestrial intelligence. In other words, if another civilization really
exists somewhere in the cosmos, China has the potential to be the first to confirm it.
Anderson s visit was accompanied by Liu Cixin, a prominent Chinese science fiction
writer, whose award winning book The Three Body Problem inspired a generation s
imaginations about extraterrestrial intelligence, and the future for technology and...

The author points out that for a long period of time during premodern China, the
country remained close minded and had insufficient curiosity about life beyond its
borders. Such attitude resulted in China experiencing the century of humiliation , the
drastic decline of culture and political power that ultimately led to the end of
Imperial China. At the same time, scientific revolutions had taken place in many
western countries and brought them onto the world stage as leading nations.
Throughout these years, China has learned the hard way the importance of opening
to new ideas and being at the forefront of scientific research. The country had
regained its geopolitical power after opening to the world in the 1980s. It has
developed a near religious reverence for science and technology, pouring resources
after resources into scientific research and development. With this history in mind, it
should be no surprising that China participates actively in the search for
extraterrestrial intelligence. In addition to the radio dish already built, China also
hopes to set up another observatory in a tall mountain that allows for clearer signals
and the elimination of winds and
Why I Join The Army Or The Navy
Most things in life come down to choices we have to make to progress or to better
ourselves. Some people choose a career in clinics or run their own business or they
join the army or the navy. But then it comes down to which one to choose from. If
you were to join one of the two, would you join the Army or the Navy? People take
into consideration of which would suit them better. Some choose which one is better
just by the advertisements, or because a family member was in a militaryor navy
branch of their own. Even a discussion with a recruiter could change your mind on
which of the two you re interested in joining. There s plenty to take into consideration
when it comes down to pursuing something in that type of field. The... Show more

the different jobs in the navy they have Healthcare, aviation, engineering and
special warfare. Healthcare consists on taking care of people who are injured or

healthcare jobs. Then there s the duties of the aviation crew which refer to either
the flight support team who are the ones that maintains the aircraft and its
conditions and keep track of its functions making sure it s working properly, flight
operations who controls and maintains the flight deck for the aircraft carriers, or
the naval aviators who search underwater from threats above through submarine

navy seal, navy diver, aviation rescue diver, special warfare combatant craft
crewman, or an explosive ordinance disposal technician. There s plenty of
possibilities inside of being a marine in the navy. It ll have its ups and downs but it
could offer plenty of opportunities that appeal to an individual as yourself in
numerous ways. The Army is a branch from the military that is based on land unlike
the marines which is based on the waters. Their responsibilities are to

A Comparison of Haydn s Symphony No. 95 with Beethoven s Symphony No. 5
Introduction As noted by Robert Hughes, Beethoven was not only the embodiment of
all that was before him, but also of that which was yet to come (Hughes 486). The
truth of this may be seen by comparing Beethoven s 5th Symphony in C Minor to
Haydn, the father of Symphony, and his 95th in C Minor. While Haydn s symphony
is both playful and dramatic, Beethoven s symphony is grander both in terms of scale
and vision. He expands the size of the orchestra to incorporate the sounds swirling
around, underlying, and depicting the arrival of Fate in a rhythm driven, thematic
symphony that takes Haydn s form and runs with it as though to the top of a
mountain peak. This paper will analyze the symphonies by movement, according to
form, size, structure, tonalities, melodies, orchestral sound and overall mood and
effect.
1st Movement Both Haydn s and Beethoven s first movements are composed in
sonata form, with an exposition stated in the opening that is then developed and
recapitulated. The size of Haydn s opening movement is somewhat smaller than
Beethoven s, whose opening exposition itself seems larger than life. Haydn s first
movement is roughly six minutes long, and the length of Beethoven s first movement
only exceeds Haydn s by about a minute and a half to two minutes. Beethoven does
not introduce too many structural changes to the traditional sonata form, which he
learned from Haydn, in the first

We Must Put an End to Corporal Punishment Essay
There was an old woman who lived in a shoe
She had so many children she didn t know what to do
She gave them some broth,
Without any bread
Whipped them all soundly, and sent them to bed (Mother Goose).
All across American households, adults whip, spank, paddle, and swat children as a
form of acceptable punishment and as deterrent to unwanted behaviors. These actions
are considered corporal punishment, and can be defined numerous ways. The
American Public Health Association defines corporal punishment as the infliction of
bodily pain as a penalty for behavior disapproved by the punisher (American Public
Health Association). Similarly, the American Medical Association describes it as the
use of force with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the contrary, studies prove the cumulative negative affects corporal punishment
has on children. These negative consequences include (but are not limited to) harm to
cognitive ability and development, antisocial and violent behavior, potential for
future abusive behavior during adulthood, bodily harm and injury, sexual
development problems, emotional distress, and can even be a gateway to more
abusive means of discipline. Admittedly, it is astonishing that all of these negative
consequences result from a legal administration of discipline that 90% of all
Americans say they have used (Muller).
In 1986, Murray Straus and Mallie Paschall began one of the most credible
longitudinal studies conducted in the field of corporal punishment. According to
Straus, the research was prompted by studies showing that talking to children
(including pre speech children) is associated with an increase in neural connections in
the brain and in cognitive performance. She stated that, Those findings led us to
theorize that if parents avoid corporal punishment they are more likely to engage in
verbal methods of behavior control such as explaining to the child, and that the
increased verbal interaction with the child will in turn enhance the child s cognitive
ability (Straus and Paschall). This theory was tested on 960 children of mothers in the

Mainstream Physician
1. Describe the conflict between medical sectarians and mainstream physicians in
nineteenth century America. How did this conflict represent wider political and
social trends in the United States during this period? When and how was, the conflict
resolved? The conflict between medical sectarians and mainstream physicians in the
nineteenth century is how medical sectarians and mainstream physician choose to
treat their patients. Medical sectarians are mostly known as a healer, nontraditional
or alternative and not a physician. Medical sectarians are less traditional and more
holistic. They prefer to use nature like plants, roots and herbs and spices to relieve or
cure ailments which is a gentler approach than taking medicine. Botanic... Show more

They believe in medicine and traditional procedures they were taught in medical
school. Mainstream physician s techniques were advancing by improving medical
instrument, now having anesthesia and starting to identify specific diseases. This
conflict represents a wider political and social trend in the United States because in
the nineteenth century people began to take care of their own personal health. It gave
people the choice of which kind of medical treatment they would want themselves.
They could go the traditional route and participate in modern medicine or they can go
the holistic route and participate in natural medicine. The conflict was resolved when
the American Medical Association was established because the American Medical
Association gave credibility to mainstream physicians because of the rules and
regulation the American Medical Association put in place. Most mainstream
physicians were banned from consulting or associating with a medical sectarian.
Medical sectarian was excluded and it did not help that the Supreme Court was in
favor of mainstream traditional medicine, then for the medical sectarians. 2. Describe

Negative Body Image
You re scrolling through your Instagram account and you see a post from a model
that you follow. It s a group photo from an A lister party. All the women have
enormous busts, but narrow waists perched upon huge derrieres while all the men
have a broad upper body, followed by a set of washboard abs. You think to yourself
how beautiful and perfect they look. A twinge of jealousy flickers within you as you
subconsciously start comparing yourself to that photo. Unfortunately, these are some
expectations that society has built on how one should one. Moreover, when we don t
reach it, there are often consequences of developing negative body imageissues.
So what is negative body image exactly? According to NEDA (Australia s national
eating disorder association) , body image issue is the dissatisfaction a person may
have of their body not meeting unrealistic criteria. It is the negative thoughts and
emotions that result from their perception of their own physical self. Unfortunately,
in today s day and age, this is an existing issue due to the world we live in promoting
unrealistic body ideals. It tends to become a challenge to not compare yourself to
these expectations when you scrutinize those images of Instagram models in your
everyday life.
A study conducted Down Under showed that, out of 10,500 Australian women, a
staggering 89% of women all hated or wanted to change something about their
appearance. A further study was conducted among 1,500 women and 1,500 men.

Abraham Lincoln Speaks To The Nation Essay
Abraham Lincoln Speaks To The Nation
Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809 in Hodgenville Kentucky. He died
on April 15, 1865 at the age of 56 when he was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth in
Ford s Theater. His parents were Thomas and Nancy Lincoln. He had a sister
named Sarah and a sibling who died as a baby. His family moved from house to
house and he grew up on farms. His father did not really want him to go to school
and always tried to stop him whenever he got the chance. When he did get to go to
school, he only had a bible to read. Growing up in his house the only book was also a
bible. All through his life he grew up to be a very religious man. Abraham Lincoln
grew up to become president and gave his first Inaugural address where he talked
about the rights of slave states and free states.

getting rid of the Fugitive Slave Act. This was a law that said that if a slave
escaped to a free state, that did not mean that he was free and he could get sent
back to where he escaped from. Lincoln said No person held to service or labor in
one state under the laws therefore, escaping into another, shall, in consequence of

Water Supply In Canada Essay
Canada should do a Better Job Protecting Its Water Supply Since the start of time
human kind and all other living things on earth have been dependant on a clean
and smooth flowing water supply. Water is an essential part of survival on earth
and that has stood true since the start of time. As droughts around the world
increase and areas turn in to dust bowls the demand of exportation of water from
countries like Canada grows tremendously. Due to this I whole heartedly disagree
with the topic and in fact encourage the Canadian government to send large bulks
of water to areas of need. Statistically speaking Canada s water consumption levels
are very high. Canada owns about 9% of the world s freshwater while only having
1% of the world s population. An average Canadian uses about 1600 cubic meters of
water yearly, this is double how much the French use and 8 times the world average.
We as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another reason I am not in favor of Canada protecting its water supply is because
of the difference between us and others around the world. Considering currency
change and the amount of resources surrounding us, we have a lot more goods
including a strong water supply from the Atlantic, Arctic and Pacific oceans, the
Arctic ocean also leads in to the great lakes which is very beneficial to Canadians
from an economic standpoint. A research done proved that 20% of the world s
richest own about 86% of all goods on earth, while the 20% poorest own as little as
only 1% of the world s goods. If we were to use this information and applied that to
Canada vs The World we would all clearly understand that it is our duty as a nation
to unite together and create equality around the world by sharing goods such as
water. The earth is something we are all part of, when something goes wrong in one
part of the world it has a ripple affect somewhere else. As citizens of a strong state it
is our duty to think about the common good of

Essay On Wild Life Protection

  • 1. Essay On Wild Life Protection Crafting an essay on the subject of wildlife protection presents a multifaceted challenge that demands a comprehensive understanding of ecological intricacies, environmental science, and conservation principles. The complexity lies not only in the need for thorough research but also in the delicate balance between providing insightful information and fostering a sense of urgency and responsibility in the reader. To tackle this topic effectively, one must delve into the myriad issues threatening wildlife, ranging from habitat loss and climate change to poaching and pollution. Addressing each of these facets requires a nuanced approach, as it involves navigating through a sea of statistics, scientific studies, and legislative frameworks. Furthermore, the emotional aspect of conveying the urgency of wildlife protection without succumbing to sensationalism adds an additional layer of difficulty. Crafting a well-rounded essay involves weaving together scientific facts, real-life examples, and compelling narratives to engage the reader on both an intellectual and emotional level. The challenge lies in striking the right balance between informative content and a persuasive tone that motivates readers to take action. This requires a delicate dance between presenting the harsh realities of the current state of wildlife and instilling hope for a positive change. Moreover, constructing a cohesive essay involves careful consideration of structure, ensuring that each paragraph seamlessly flows into the next, building a persuasive argument. Juggling the technicalities of grammar, syntax, and vocabulary adds another layer of intricacy to the task. In conclusion, writing an essay on wildlife protection demands a synthesis of scientific knowledge, environmental awareness, and persuasive communication skills. It is a challenging endeavor that requires dedication, research, and a passion for conservation. However, the importance of addressing the critical issues facing wildlife makes the effort not only worthwhile but essential for fostering a sustainable future. • 2. The Pros And Cons Of Terrorism Terrorism is a word that holds an awful lot of weight in the modern world and often brings to mind senseless acts of violence created by a handful of irrational people of the society. Terrorism however, is a military strategy that brings with itself many advantages, and has been used to gain independence from oppressive nations on multiple occasions. Terrorismis often used when two forces are unevenly matched in war. When nations are placed between a rock and a hard place even the most rational people will result to terrorist tactics. By terrorism, this is meaning non state actors that are using non traditional guerilla warfare tactics as military aid in a time of conflict. The military conflict that occurred in The Battle of Algiers, was just that kind of terrorism. The movie showed terrorism benefiting the Algerians, and begged the audience members to ask the question of who was really in the right. The Algerians were simply outmatched and outgunned, if they ever had a shot at winning they would have to rethink the playbook. This illustrates the main advantage of terrorism is that it gives oppressed and underrepresented people groups leverage to liberate themselves. This is driven by the fact that we live in a world where bullets can not kill an idea. Great ideas, and great governments for that matter, oftentimes don t come only to nations with military might. The Algerians sought independence because they saw a positive future where they were not ruled by the French
  • 3. Mythology in the Ancient World Myths exist in every part of the world and are an integral part of the culture and identity. Ancient societies relied heavily on mythology to entertain, to answer questions, to explain and to implement social expectations. But most importantly, it allowed these people to explain the creation of the universe, the birth of mankind, the forces of nature, human condition and the purpose of life. As a result, myths can be considered essential for certain groups of peoples to explain the powerful forces that shape and affect their lives. These are evident in the mythology of Rome, Greece, Christian myths, the Norse mythologies and the myths of Mesopotamia. Most ancient myths are often stories of origins, dreams, archetypes, metaphysical aspects,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The VГ¶luspГЎ states that Odin and his brothers made the first man and first woman out of an ash tree and an elm tree. (Internet 6) Odin gave man life, intelligence, and beauty. From Norse mythology, a poem called VГ¶luspГЎ, confirms this about the creation of the world: When Ymir lived long ago Was no sand or sea, no surging waves. Nowhere was there earth nor heaven above. Bur a grinning gap and grass nowhere. The sons of Bur then built up the lands. Moulded in magnificence middle Earth: Sun stared from the south on the stones of their hall, From the ground there sprouted green leeks. (VГ¶luspГЎ The Song of the Sybil) Odin created the universe in three levels similar to the Greeks and Romans with heaven and the Underworld. Correspondingly, other aspects of the world like the sun, the moon and stars, are also explained. They are explained by sparks and from this, the gods regulated the days and nights and also the seasons. But just like the Greek interpretation, the sun a god, SГіl. It is said that she rides through the sky on her chariot and is chased by a wolf. The moon is SГіl s brother called MГЎni who is also chased by a wolf. The Norse myths also explained why the strength of the sun doesn t kill them because of the shield, Svalinn, which is placed before SГіl. All this attributed to their theory of the world just like it did for the Greeks and the Romans. The lack of technology and

  • 5. Abraham Lincoln Essay Abraham Lincoln Abraham Lincoln was the 16Th President of America. He was the first republican that was elected as President. He ran for senate two times and lost both. When he was in office he was mostly occupied with the states that broke away from the Union, who was named the Confederate States of America. The first to break away was South Carolina followed by 6 other states before the inauguration of Abraham Lincoln. And then four more at the beginning of the Civil War,Battle of Fort Sumter. Lincoln was inaugurated into office in March of 1861. Lincoln was one of the reasons the pro slavery states broke away, they where afraid that Lincoln was going to ban slavery because Lincoln was an anti slavery person.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lincoln had made the Emancipation Proclamation, which banned slavery to the CSA(Confederate States of America)that didn t come back to the Union by Jan 1, 1863. It also named the states it applied to. But it didn t name the boarder states of Kentucky, Missouri, Maryland and Delaware because those states did not actually declare secession so they didn t free any slaves in those states at the time. They also didn t name Tennessee because it was mostly back to the Union by then. Most slaves where not let go immediately but the Act freed thousands of slaves. Lincoln thought people would think that the Emancipation Proclamation would be only temporary due to the war and be soon forgotten. So what Abraham did is he made the 13Th Amendment. The 13Th Amendment stated that slavery was illegal to all states, and also that it is illegal to make people work against their will to benefit themselves, which is called involuntary servitude. The C.S.A collapsed when generals Robert E.Lee and Joesph E. Johnston surrendered their armies over to the Union. Later the Union soldiers captured Jefferson Davis(The Confederate President) on May of 1865. At almost the end of the war Lincoln had a very reasonable view on what the nation

  • 7. The World Of The Gospels A Miracle Miracle stories were accepted by ancient people as possible. The divine interacted with human kind. This contrasts with the contemporary scepticism about the sacred or the possibility of miracles. In the light of scientific, data driven, technological preoccupation, miracles seem to be unnecessary. The gap between humankind and the divine has widened to the point of being irrelevant, unnecessary or non existent. However, in the world of the gospels a miraclewas anything that caused people to wonder (Latin miraculum to wonder; mirari to wonder at) or be in awe. According to John Meier (A marginal Jew, Vol 2:512) a miracle is an unusual startling or extraordinary event that is in principle perceivable by any interested and fair minded observer, and event that finds no reasonable explanation in human abilities or in other known forces that operate in our world of time and space and an event that is the result of a special act of God, doing what no human power can do . There are two elements to a miracle one which causes wonder, one that is extraordinary phenomenon that is inexplicable in terms of familiar, everyday causation. This is ascribe to a superhuman force. What demarcates the extraordinary varies from people to people, culture to culture and age to age. In the NT miracle accounts are not unique in the Greco Roman world. What was distinguishable in their reference to the divine; they are attributed not to deities in a polytheism but to the one God of the Jewish
  • 8. The Works Of Rembrandt And Rubens The Works of Rembrandt and Rubens During the 17th century, especially after their break from Spain, The United Provinces of the Netherlands became the most prosperous nation in Europe by leading the world in trade, science, and art. Through the huge and one of the first art markets, art became a common household possession and allowed artists to freely express themselves, which is one of the evidential factors in three of the most universally admired artists of the baroque art era. Rubens, an influential Flemish artist of the Italian baroque scene, focused more on the works of the counter reformation while the masters of the Dutch baroque art, such as Rembrandt, were in the heart of the protestant Dutch Republic. These three artists share similar artistic styles but yet have extremely evident differences and influences. The artists work also have a great portrayal of the historical and social impacts of the 17th century. This dynamic century shaped much of the modern world of today. With all the great scientific discoveries and the recent protestant reformation, the world no longer revolved around religious devotion and mysticism but had a stronger focus on individuality. The laws of nature and observation by reasoning proved that everyone is capable of observing the world through mathematics, logic, and experimentation. Another major characteristic of the 17th century is the major political decisions and the international struggle for colonial domination. Colonialism was
  • 9. Who Is The Conch In Lord Of The Flies Imagine you are trapped on a deserted island with no adults. In William Golding s book Lord of the Flies this group of boys had recently been in a plane crash and no adults survived. They crashed into a random island with no resources, parents, or even shelter. They had to learn to get along with one another and create a decent civilization where they had a leader. The way they were able to accomplish this was by having a shell that they would blow into to call everybody for a meeting. In Lord of The Flies by William Golding, the conch changed from unity to disaster. At the beginning of the story, the boys used the conch for power and unity. Piggy is talking to Ralph and they are trying to find out who is on the island. What Piggy said to Ralph was, We can use this to call the others. Have a meeting. What Piggy had said to Ralph after this had happened was, I thought they wanted the conch. Ralph trotted down the pale beach and jumped on to the platform. Towards the end of the novel, Piggy decided to go to there base and try to get his glasses back in trade for the conch. When he was there, The conch exploded into a thousand white fragments and ceased to exist (Golding 181). This happened when Piggy was crushed by the boulder and he had the conch in his hand. This was how the conch had symbolized evil and war at the end of the story because they killed Piggy since they were so mad at his group of

Comparing O Brien s The Things They Carried and Ninh s The Sorrow of War Bao Ninh s The Sorrow of War is a contrapuntal reading to American literature on the Vietnam War. But rather than stand in stark contrast to Tim O Brien s The Things They Carried, The Sorrow of War is strangely similar, yet different at the same time. From a post colonialist standpoint, one must take in account both works to get an accurate image of the war. The Sorrow of War is an excellent counterpoint because it is truthful. Tim O Brien writes: . . . you can tell a true war story by its absolute and uncompromising allegiance to obscenity and evil. (O Brien, 42) Bao Ninh succeeds in this respect. And it was for this reason that the Vietnamese... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not only were American soldiers well muscled and athletes, (191) but some of them were black. Whites were not particularly strange, as Vietnam had been under French rule, but blacks must have been something of a frightening, unfamiliar novelty. This too is reflected in the text. When Kien and Hoa encounter an American platoon in the jungle, the blacks in the platoon are the first thing Kien describes, after describing what was not a man, but a tracker dog as big as a calf. (189) And when the soldiers smoke rosa canina, one of the things they hallucinate is groups of headless black American soldiers right along with hallucinations about fantastic creatures and extinct animal species. With these counterpoints to the American views of Vietnamese soldiers, an American certainly gets a different picture of the war. Bao Ninh s portrayal of postwar Vietnam also fosters a more objective viewpoint of the war. After the war, the Americans took their twisted memories back home, to an unscathed country where nearly everyone had something to go back to. For North Vietnamese soldiers, home was where the horror had been, and in many ways still was. He is plain in his message: The recent years of war had brought enough suffering and pain to last them a thousand years. (75) Kien s slow, painful demise is brought on by the heavy sorrow of war as he is haunted by an eternal past. (88) During the war North Vietnamese soldiers were but insects or an ant who

  • 13. Greed In The Poem Hotel California In the lyric poem Hotel California by The Eagles, the speaker tells the story of a man succumbing to greed and self temptation and how he is forever trapped by that greed in a place that is impossible to leave and go back to where he was before. The poem uses the poetic device of symbolism by using the hotel as a place where one goes when trapped by their greed. Once the man has experienced what he wants, he is trapped in a place he cannot leave, shown as a hotel that is impossible to leave in the poem. He begins conflicted about being greedy, ends up enjoying it, but then figures out he s trapped forever by it. The speaker notes that succumbing to greed is our own fault and that we trap ourselves in our greed. We are all just prisoners here, of our own device, (The Eagles stanza 4, line 3). The second to last stanza of the poem describes the man trying to escape of his greed. It says he is running for the door, trying to get back to the place he was before. He has realized how badly his greed has ruined his life and tries to go back to being the normal man he was previously. But once people have experienced greediness and what they wanted, it is impossible to get out of the trap they buried themselves in. The poem states that ...You can check out any time you like, But you can never leave! (The Eagles stanza 5, lines 7 and 8). It is impossible to leave the place your greed has trapped you

Trillions of dollars have been spent on the involvement in the Middle East for decades by the United States government, which orchestrated these results. The burden financially, has been measured in trillions of dollars, on multiple expenses, all relating to the involvement in the Middle East. Not only have these events impacted the U.S. financially, but many people have had to pay the ultimate price, with millions of people dying as a direct result. This event led to the creation of a weapons pipeline between these Arab nations because the U.S. insisted that the nations use the money they gained from the embargo on U.S. weapons (Jones). The U.S. received about $22 billion in weapons sales from the Middle Eastern countries in total, which does not even come close to offsetting the money that was paid, and the money that was made came at severe costs. The consequences of this include the militarization of the countries that the weapons were sold and led to an evident rise in tension within the region, specifically between Iraq and Iran. The trillions that have been accumulated will not only hurt us today but will affect us financially for years to come. The intervention in the Middle East, also known as the War on Terror, has led to hundreds of thousands of deaths. There have been about 350,000 deaths resulting from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars alone (Home). Those deaths can be broken down into 220,000 civilians, 88,024 opposing forces, 6,802 U.S. military and 6,787 U.S. contractors. Experts estimate that the death totals may be higher than what has been reported. Millions of people have been displaced by the wars, with an estimated 6.7 million people being displaced from their homes (Funk). • 15. Advantage Of Polished Concrete Floor Concrete Floor Concrete floor is one of the most durable materials in the world. It can be made with waste products which help to reduce the consumption of valuable materials. It also can be made from fly ash, slag cement, and silica fume, all waste byproducts from steel mills, power plants and other manufacturing facilities. Tissue Engineering Essays Tissue Engineering Tissue engineering, labeled by Time.com as the number one hottest job for the 21st century, holds great potential for medicine and the treatment of chronic diseases and disorders. With tissue engineering, familiar problems like the rejection of foreign tissue by the body, the severe shortage of organ donors, and the inefficiency of artificial devices may be solved. However, this cutting edge biotechnology has already spurred intense controversy over the ethics and morality of creating spare human body parts. The goal of tissue engineering is to grow tissues and neo organs that can be used for transplants. Tissue engineers must first decide what type of cell they want to use and stimulate to grow. Because animal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition to giving the growing cells a shape to grow into, the scaffold distributes the cells about 2 3 mm apart and allows the cells better access to nutrients and means of waste removal, which is important when trying to grow an evenly distributed functioning organ. For larger, solid organs, such as the liver, pancreas, and kidneys, blood vessels need to be created so the organs have adequate blood supply. By covering the engineered organs with growth factors, angiogenesis, the formation of new vasculature, can be prompted. Although tissue engineers and researchers have already succeeded with creating new skin, blood vessels, bone and cartilage, the more complex organs are difficult to reproduce because of their different functions. Researchers must also be concerned with the mechanisms of growing the tissue. For instance, the advantages and disadvantages are not yet clear for the length of time the cells should be exposed to the growth factors or the difference between growing the tissue outside the body or implanting the scaffold inside the body and letting the tissue grow there. Scaffolding and injectable polymers that form scaffolds in irregular areas (like bone fractures) are also being improved. Much more research is being conducted in order to grow the hearts, livers, breasts, kidneys, and other valuable organs that so many people need. Although tissue engineering has great application for helping ill patients, it

One prominent method of eyewitness identification is a line up procedure during which A line up is a procedure in which a criminal suspect(or a picture of the suspect) is placed among other people (or pictures of other people) and shown to an eyewitness to see if the witness will identify the suspect as the culprit in question (Wells... It was proposed that reasoned that this procedure may raise participants response criterion and evoke a more absolute criterion (i.e., Is this the perpetrator or not?) rather than the similarity based relative judgment criterion, thereby alleviating the simultaneous bias (Ebbesen Flowe, 2002; Lindsay Wells, 1985). As another renewable energy widely used, wind power, which is now mainly used for generating electricity today, has been used for thousands of years powering human activities. Unlike solar energy previously mentioned, wind is caused by the uneven heating of the earth s surface by the sun so that wind energy is an indirect form of solar energy (Volker, 2005). Even in some developed countries such as Demark, lack of expert engineers in the wind industry is noticeable. It is convincingly argues that there is quite an engineering challenge especially for the less developed nations to design an efficient wind turbine harnessing energy and turning it into electricity. In addition, it seems rather a challenge to offer opportunities for technology transfer, training and practical experience for the industry and potential wind energy supporting industries and organisations for the current developing world. Contributions made by wind energy seem mainly to be the

From there they would need to monitor the division to see where any possible issues may occur and iron them out. I suggested starting with the most profitable divisions first due to the fact that they are financially stable and would be able to handle any issues that may arise during this transition. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Reciprocating Compressors For lower flow rates during holding mode, reciprocating compressors are usually a good fit because of their efficient turndown capabilities. They cater to a wider range of flow rates than any other compressor type. For large scale terminals, to cater higher BoG flow rate during unloading, centrifugal compressors are appropriate. Multiple (2 or 3) compressors are installed in parallel so that shutdown of any one of them does not hamper the operation. Depending on the tank type, reciprocating compressors can be used if the tank is concrete roof tank. Those tanks generally are operated at higher pressures and therefore, vapour generation is significantly low and hence reciprocating compressors can be used even for unloading mode. Composition ... But, operating cost of SCV s is much higher than ORV s because of use of natural gas as a fuel. Typically about 1.5% of the vaporized LNG is used up for running SCV s. пѓ Shell and tube vaporizers Shell and tube vaporizers (STV) involve 2 levels of heat transfer, where, first level is heat exchange between LNG and intermediate fluid like propane and the second level is heat exchange between intermediate fluid and sea water. The surface areas of the heat exchangers are optimized to have maximum heat exchange. The major advantage of STV s is, they prevent freezing (unlike ORV s) and reduce fouling risks. But of course, they are costly because of use of intermediate fluid like propane. пѓ Ambient air vaporizers The emissions because of SCV s and unknowns associated with ORV s has made companies focus on something which is reliable and cheap and renewable and hence, companies are focussing on ambient air vaporizers which use ambient air as a source of heat transfer. The technology of using ambient air for LNG vaporization was there in the market before, but for smaller scales. The recent advancements has made it possible to use it at larger scales as well. The impact of temperature and climate is an important factor for designing ambient air vaporizers. The technology is considered green because it has no emissions and makes use of solar heat stored in air as a heat transfer

A Comparison of Haydn s Symphony No. 95 with Beethoven s Symphony No. 5 Introduction As noted by Robert Hughes, Beethoven was not only the embodiment of all that was before him, but also of that which was yet to come (Hughes 486). The truth of this may be seen by comparing Beethoven s 5th Symphony in C Minor to Haydn, the father of Symphony, and his 95th in C Minor. While Haydn s symphony is both playful and dramatic, Beethoven s symphony is grander both in terms of scale and vision. He expands the size of the orchestra to incorporate the sounds swirling around, underlying, and depicting the arrival of Fate in a rhythm driven, thematic symphony that takes Haydn s form and runs with it as though to the top of a mountain peak. This paper will analyze the symphonies by movement, according to form, size, structure, tonalities, melodies, orchestral sound and overall mood and effect. 1st Movement Both Haydn s and Beethoven s first movements are composed in sonata form, with an exposition stated in the opening that is then developed and recapitulated. The size of Haydn s opening movement is somewhat smaller than Beethoven s, whose opening exposition itself seems larger than life. Haydn s first movement is roughly six minutes long, and the length of Beethoven s first movement only exceeds Haydn s by about a minute and a half to two minutes. Beethoven does not introduce too many structural changes to the traditional sonata form, which he learned from Haydn, in the first

Admittedly, it is astonishing that all of these negative consequences result from a legal administration of discipline that 90% of all Americans say they have used (Muller). In 1986, Murray Straus and Mallie Paschall began one of the most credible longitudinal studies conducted in the field of corporal punishment. According to Straus, the research was prompted by studies showing that talking to children (including pre speech children) is associated with an increase in neural connections in the brain and in cognitive performance. She stated that, Those findings led us to theorize that if parents avoid corporal punishment they are more likely to engage in verbal methods of behavior control such as explaining to the child, and that the increased verbal interaction with the child will in turn enhance the child s cognitive ability (Straus and Paschall). This theory was tested on 960 children of mothers in the National Longitudinal
