To raise awareness among the patients about their rights and responsibilities as patients and to build up a strong, safe and healthy doctor patient relationship, the Dr. Anamika Ray Memorial Trust observes June 25 as Patients’ Rights Day under the “STOP MEDICAL TERRORISM” movement for better and transparent healthcare services in India.
The Trust, in consultation with a panel of medical professionals of national and international repute, drafted the Patients’ Rights in 10 points and the responsibilities in another 10 points. The Rights and Responsibilities of the patients available at http://smt.armt.in in many Indian languages. It's a two page document. The Trust requests everyone to support the cause by downloading the document in their preferred language, printing it out and distributing it among patients in any hospital in India. The Trust believes that this initiative may save hundreds of lives and will be a great contribution for better and more transparent healthcare services in India.

The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center, will provide insight into new directions in targeted therapeutic approaches for older adults with mantle cell lymphoma.
STATEMENT OF NEED
Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is a rare, aggressive B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) accounting for 5% to 7% of all lymphomas. Its prognosis ranges from indolent disease that does not require treatment for years to very aggressive disease, which is associated with poor survival (Silkenstedt et al, 2021). Typically, MCL is diagnosed at advanced stage and in older patients who cannot tolerate intensive therapy (NCCN, 2022). Although recent advances have slightly increased remission rates, recurrence and relapse remain very common, leading to a median overall survival between 3 and 6 years (LLS, 2021). Though there are several effective options, progress is still needed towards establishing an accepted frontline approach for MCL (Castellino et al, 2022). Treatment selection and management of MCL are complicated by the heterogeneity of prognosis, advanced age and comorbidities of patients, and lack of an established standard approach for treatment, making it vital that clinicians be familiar with the latest research and advances in this area. In this activity chaired by Michael Wang, MD, Professor in the Department of Lymphoma & Myeloma at MD Anderson Cancer Center, expert faculty will discuss prognostic factors informing treatment, the promising results of recent trials in new therapeutic approaches, and the implications of treatment resistance in therapeutic selection for MCL.

Patient and Family Rights and Responsibilities
Hospital Changkat Melintang respects the rights of patients and their families,
including cultural, psychosocial, spiritual, and personal values, beliefs, and
preferences.
Although these rights are written for the patients, in most cases they also apply to
the patient's family. The term “patient” also refers to other persons served;
“family” refers to parents, other family members, guardians and surrogate
decision makers.
Patient’s Rights:
Patients have the right to receive individualized, considerate and respectful
care in a safe setting.
Care is delivered in a manner and setting intended to preserve your personal
dignity. Care is provided without discrimination as to your race, color, religion,
gender, age, sexual orientation, familial status, national origin, genetic
information, physical or mental disability, veteran status, or how your bill is paid.
Pastoral or other spiritual services are accommodated.
Patients have the right to effective communication, based on individual
needs.
Special services will be given to address your needs, as appropriate. They can
relate to your age, understanding, language, vision, speech, or hearing.
Patients have the right to be involved in decisions about their care.

• All hospital staff wear name badges to identify themselves.
• All staff providing your care will introduce themselves to you and describe
their roles.

3. Any allegations are promptly investigated and appropriate action is taken.
Patients have the right to access protective services.
You may ask the department for information about state protection and advocacy

If patients are over age 18, according to Malaysian law, they have the right
to make health care decisions in advance or to appoint a health care agent
through an advance directive.
When necessary to give informed consent, a representative may be appointed on
your behalf if you are unable to do so.
Patients have the right to be free from restraint, except when it is temporarily
necessary to prevent injury to yourself or others. Such emergency restraint is
used in a safe manner and with care and respect.
Patients have the right to donate your organs.
You will be given adequate explanation and counseling regarding the act of
organ donation, its benefits and the process of procurement. Only upon
consent the organ/s will be procured.
Patients have the right to receive an explanation of the charges for which
you are responsible.
Patients have the right to speak with someone about your concerns if you
are not satisfied with any aspect of your care and are unable to resolve the
situation.
