Madonna and George Michael
On my contents page, I plan to advertise articles involving
Madonna and George Michael to fit in with my genre of 80s-
style glam pop. As these are articles involving very famous
celebrities, even by today’s standards, I wanted to include
photos of these stars to draw attention to these articles to
encourage my audience to read them. So, as I want to use
original images, I need to find someone to be Madonna and
George Michael for the purpose of my photo shoot, as the
real Madonna and George Michael wouldn’t show up. I have
asked Joanna Halfyard to model as Madonna for me, and
Gary Halfyard to model as George Michael for me. As they
are in their mid-40s, they resemble 80s Madonna and
George Michael somewhat, and their presence in my
magazine will help to make it more attractive for this age
group to buy, as it is more relatable for them.
3. Details of the Shoot
Date – 7th February 2016
Time – 4pm – 6pm (including time for styling)
Location – __ Belmont Avenue, B______ (BD1_
___)
Models required – Joanna Halfyard and Gary
Halfyard
Drinks and snacks will be provided for you to eat
and drink at your leisure.
4. Madonna’s Styling
When my models arrive, I will be styling them to look like the celebrities they are representing. I
have already informed them of this, and I have asked Joanna to arrive with no makeup on and
her natural hair so that the transformation can begin as quickly as possible.
Hair – Joanna’s hair is short and curly already; brown with some blonde highlights. This is
good for representing 80s Madonna, as this is the style of hair she had, and so I don’t want to
change it much. However, big hair was in fashion in the 80s so I will be backcombing
Joanna’s hair with a brush and hairspray to make it stay, so I will need to have these to hand.
This is something I will prepare before the shoot.
Makeup – From research I can see that Madonna often wore a dark red lip colour in the
1980s, and a bold eye shadow colour that was usually bright, but sometimes dark. She also
appears to have worn eye liner, eye brow pencil, blusher and highlighter and so I will make
my model up with all of this makeup to achieve her look. I will be using the bright eye shadow
look over the dark eye shadow look to mix up my 80s styling, as Chelsey is going to be
featured with a smoky eye look on the cover of my magazine. I have decided to have a go at
doing makeup myself this time because after watching Emily do Chelsey’s, I feel more
confident and it is a skill I want to develop to help me in these situations in the future. Also,
the makeup will be less noticeable on these photos as they will be smaller than the large
image on the cover, but it will contribute towards the mise-en-scene which is why it’s
important.
Clothing – I have sourced an 80s Madonna inspired outfit from various different shops and
from family members who have kept things from the 1980s, which I will be asking Joanna to
wear. It features black leggings which look like black leather, white leather heeled boots, a
white leather jacket, a large, netted hair tie, a black netted glove, lots of bangles, and big,
bold earrings.

I will be basing Joanna’s styling upon
6. Model Positioning and Shot Framing
I will be positioning my model in the style of actual pictures of
Madonna from the 1980s, such as the ones featured below. I will
also be framing the shots similarly to the photos below as I think
that they are effective in showing who the photo is of, but also
including elements of mise-en-scene such as the surroundings and
styling (medium – close-up shots). I will show these photos to
Joanna before the shoot and ask her to copy the posing, but I will
also direct her myself on the day. These poses were often featured
in music magazines in the 1980s as posters and exclusive images
which is why I think that they fit in with my genre of music
magazine.
7. George Michael’s Styling
Hair- I have sourced a wig for my model, Gary, to wear to
make him look like George Michael, as naturally he has
very dark hair, whereas George Michael had blonde, fairly
long hair in the 1980s. Therefore, it doesn’t matter what his
hair looks like when he turns up to the shoot.
Makeup – George Michael didn’t wear any obvious
makeup in the 1980s, but it’s probable that he did wear
subtle, natural makeup before he went on stage and during
photoshoots so I am going to use some bronzer on Gary
before the shoot.
Clothing – I have borrowed a George Michael fancy dress
costume from a family friend which involves a ‘Choose Life’
t-shirt which George Michael made famous, and some
white shorts. I have also added some sunglasses to the
outfit and I will be asking Gary to wear this for the shoot.

9. Model Positioning and Shot Framing
George Michael is famous for
some of his poses and dance
moves, such as the one pictured
to the right. I will ask Gary to
replicate these poses and dance
moves in front of the camera for
me to take photos of as it will
help my audience to recognise
immediately who Gary is meant
to be. I will use medium shots
and full shots so that the
audience can see the moves
and positions that Gary is doing.

Matt Goss
Another article I plan to advertise on my contents page is one
about Matt Goss leaving his band called ‘Bros’ and starting a
solo career. This is something that really did happen in the
world of 1980s glam pop and therefore the outcome of it will
probably be something that my readers will be interested in.
So, I need a model to represent Matt Goss so that I can
include a photograph of ‘Matt Goss’ on my contents page to
make the article more noticeable, and to add some context
for those who might not know who Matt Goss is, as they may
only recognise Bros as a band, rather than the two brothers
by name who actually make up the band.
I have asked Ryan Cavanagh to model for me as he has
some similar features to Matt Goss, including same colour
hair which I will be styling to make the photograph more
authentic.
11. Details of the Shoot
Date – 16th February 2016
Time – 5pm – 6pm
Location - __ Haw View, Y_______, LS2_ ___,
and Y________ Banks. Please meet at the first
address.
Models required – Ryan Cavanagh
12. Matt Goss’ Styling
Hair – I have already provided Ryan with photographs of Bros in
the 1980s, to give him an idea of how he should style his hair
prior to the shoot. I have asked him to do this himself as I have
never styled male hair before, whereas he enjoys styling his hair
and his mother is a hairdresser who has offered to help with this.
However, I plan on making any adjustments necessary myself
prior to the shoot.
Makeup – Matt Goss wasn’t known for wearing makeup, and for
this reason I have decided not to involve any makeup in this
shoot.
Clothing – I have asked Ryan to wear a plain white t-shirt and
jeans for the shoot as this is the outfit I have seen worn most
commonly by Bros in photos from the 1980s. I have also asked
him to bring along a black jacket that resembles a leather jacket
if possible, as Bros were also pictured in leather jackets, but
Ryan doesn’t own a leather jacket, and I don’t know anyone who
does. It would have been to expensive for me to buy one just for
this cause, so I am going to be using the next best thing.
13. Images of Matt Goss in the 1980s that I
will be basing Ryan’s styling upon
14. Model Positioning and Shot Framing
I will be asking Ryan to pose with his gaze directly
fixed on the camera and a blank/serious facial
expression, as this appears to be Matt Goss’
signature pose – he is doing this on almost all of
the photos I have found of him in the 1980s. This is
what will help my audience to recognise that Ryan
is representing Matt Goss.

Chelsey Denton
I need to take more photographs of Chelsey for my
contents page and double page spread and so I
have organised another shoot with her for this
purpose. I want to advertise the interview with
Chelsey in a way that is extremely noticeable seen
as though it’s my cover story, and I feel a
photograph is the best way to do this. I chose to
take these photos on a different day to my cover
and original double page spread photos as I
wanted to style Chelsey differently and take the
photographs in a different location.
16. Details of the Shoot
Date – 24th February 2016
Time – 3pm onwards
Location – Titus Salt School, the stage
Models required – Chelsey Denton
Drinks and snacks will be provided for you to eat
and drink at your leisure during the shoot.
17. Chelsey’s Styling
Hair – I have asked Chelsey to come to the shoot with her hair
down, as I am going to use a photo of her with her hair up on the
cover and I want to mix up the styling of my photos throughout the
magazine to make them more interesting for the audience, and to
allow the audience to see different sides to Chelsey. I also think
that her naturally curly, big hair fits in with 80s styling and will work
well in my magazine.
Makeup – This time I will be doing Chelsey’s makeup when she
arrives at the shoot. I will be putting her in another bold lip colour,
probably red this time and applying some subtle eye shadow and
plenty of highlighter to compliment the makeup she wears normally
and give it more of an 80s fashion twist.
Clothing - I have asked Chelsey to bring black jeans and the
beaded top from the previous shoot for the cover to this shoot. This
is because I haven’t chosen an image for my cover where she is
wearing that top, but I felt it was effective on the photos so I would
like to use it elsewhere in the magazine. I also feel like it fit with the
modern glam pop scene she is a part of, with an 80s influence.
18. Model Positioning and Shot Framing
I have sourced a microphone for Chelsey to hold in this
shoot and act like she is singing into it. I will be taking
the photos on the stage at school to make it look like
she is giving a performance to a crowd, as she is a
singer and that’s what she does.
The shot I have planned is close up and from the side
so that the stage can be seen, her makeup and outfit
can be seen, her action of singing can be seen, but the
fact that there isn’t actually a large audience there can’t,
because I didn’t feel that including an audience in the
shot would be beneficial as the image is going to be
fairly small, as it will be positioned along with other
images on my contents page.
