Presentation slides for the June 5, 2015 quarterly meeting of the Council of Professional Associations on Federal Statistics (COPAFS). The theme of the meeting was workforce statistics. This presentation updates progress to date on deploying newly-developed survey items on the prevalence and key characteristics of non-degree credentials, including industry-recognized certifications, occupational licenses, and educational certificats.
Discussion regarding the ability to accelerate students by reducing the amount of time, number of developmental credits, and number of courses in the developmental sequence so students can be successful in a college level course. Accelerated learning will require a curriculum redesign.

Transitioning from School to Work: Preparing Evaluation Students and New Eval...Washington Evaluators
Unlike some professions, there is no single path for making the leap from student to new professional to being an established member of the profession. In large part this is because of the trans-disciplinary nature of evaluation field and the many the broad number of professions and sectors (public, non-profit, private) in which evaluation and social science research skills may be useful. This panel will explore the many approaches used by universities in the Washington, DC area to train graduate and undergraduate students in the field of evaluation, and the transition strategies to help students and new evaluators establish themselves in the evaluation field. The seven distinguished panelists are all associated with Washington Evaluators, and have served in AEA and/or WE leadership positions. Panelists and our Discussant will be asked to address questions such as:
1. In which disciplines/schools at your university would we expect to find courses in evaluation or related to evaluation?
2. What are the components of the evaluation curricula? Do you offer a degree or major field in evaluation?
3. Do you offer hands-on experiences for your students to design and conduct evaluations?
4. Where have your former students worked in the evaluation field, and what kinds of careers have they had?

The American Bar Association has taken steps to try to improve the state of the education students receive by implementing new standards and rules for law schools. Under ABA Standard 314, law schools must now be engaged in meaningful assessment of their progress in helping students achieve outcome goals. While the Standards create considerable space for schools to develop their own assessment schemes that fit their program and their mission, each school must use both summative assessments (typically final examinations) and formative assessments, which must be integrated into the school’s program to provide meaningful feedback to improve student learning.
This webinar will examine the different kinds of assessments that a law school can administer using ExamSoft in order to seriously measure its success in meeting the outcomes that it has identified as appropriate to its mission.

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
