NISOD is dedicated to enhancing excellence in community and technical college education, particularly through innovative approaches to recruitment and retention of adult learners, especially those with prior learning. A growing number of adults possess college credits without degrees, highlighting the need for effective prior learning assessment (PLA) and competency-based education (CBE) strategies to re-engage these potential students. Various states and colleges are collaborating to develop targeted outreach and resources to bridge the gap in skilled labor, while emphasizing flexibility and recognition of existing competencies to meet the demands of the 21st-century workforce.
