1. IPC media have produced many different magazines under most sub-genres. An example of this is
the magazine Marie Claire. Marie Claire is a monthly woman’s magazine focusing on health beauty
and everyday life. Their music magazines are also put into subgenres. The music magazine Uncut
features the classic rock music genre. IPC only publish one of each sub-genre because if they were to
sell more than one, they would the risk in losing sales over other similar published magazines. It
would also be hard to come up with a wide range of different information separating the two
magazines. The target audience for this specific magazine is people who have grew up the sixties and
seventies and who enjoy listening to artists such as Neil Young and Clash who fit under the classic
rock genre.
NME (New Musical Express) is another music magazine in which IPC publishes. It focuses a lot on the
music sub-genres indie, rock, punk and alternative. But to individualise this magazine from others
like ‘Uncut’ they have produced a magazine who’s target audience is much younger; ranging in ages
from 16 up to 24.
IPC media have created a lot similar types of magazines based on the same type of subgenre-rock
but have individualised it by it at different target audiences. As my magazine is going to be based on
the sub genre RnB, I think IPC media would be a good publisher to sell my idea to. This is because
they do not, as of yet, publish any music magazine under the sub genre RnB. Other sub genres such
as Hip-Hop, Rap and pop could also be good genres to be featured on a magazine.
