Fraud at Electronic Game Card, Inc.
Discuss the nature of the fraud and the impact to the company as a result of the fraudulent activity.
Electronic Game Card Inc. develops, produces, and markets electronic, credit card sized games to the
casino, lottery, toy, game, education, and promotional industry worldwide. Chief executive officer Lee
Cole and chief financial officer Linden Boyne secretly funneled millions of shares of the company s
stock to entities in Gibraltar which they secretly controlled. Those entities then sold off the stocks and

It is unclear as to how the cover up was perpetrated. The day to day processing of documents would
likely have been completed by lower ranking employees, who may or may not have been aware of the
situation. At times, lower level employees choose to do what is asked, even if they feel that something
is wrong. They point the blame for why a certain procedure was followed on their supervisors as they
fear they will lose their job. It is management s responsibility to set the tone of ethical behavior within
the company. Mr. Lee s and Mr. Boyne s lack of integrity and honesty could have filtered down to the
employees, who chose to ignore the unethical behavior.
Discuss the impact to the company or brand as a result of the fraudulent activity. On February 10,
2010, the company postponed a conference call that was meant to discuss vital internal issues within
the company, which created an instant sixteen percent drop in stock price (Shareholders Foundation,
2010). On this same date, they filed Form 8 K with the SEC, stating that their independent auditors,
Mendoza Berger and Company, LLP, had withdrawn its audit opinion for the years ending December
31, 2006, 2007, and 2008 (U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, 2010). On April 8th, 2010, the

New Brutalism
In the following years, the Smithson and Banham would make several more remarks on New
Brutalism. All these later remarks, as demonstrated by recent scholarships, only created an even more
murky definition of New Brutalism. More than a decade after the initial surge of writings, the New
Brutalism debates was reignited following Banham s 1966 publication New Brutalism: Ethics or
Aesthetic. It was also at this moment that the Smithson reinstated the importance of Crosby s
contribution to the New Brutalism discourse and distant themselves from the interpretation offered by
Reyner Banham. In 1973, Alison and Peter Smithson published Without Rhetoric; an Architecture
Aesthetic, 1955 1972, which began with a revised version of the 1955 AD New Brutalism ... Show

drawings that looked like Japanese scrolls for the competition. The building was presented, with its
structural elements exposed, in an isometric view an apparent reference to oriental paintings. There
was no furniture or interior fitting in the illustrations; instead one could only find scattered Japanese
figures dressed in traditional Kimono along the scroll. Not unlike in their New Brutalism article, the
Smithsons took pride in their superficial understanding of Japanese culture: they declared that the
ancient Japanese figures were cut out from a postcard from the Victoria and Albert Museum. In the
description of the project, the Smithsons made reference again to the idea of

Pain And Neuropathic Pain
There are many types of pain and their causes depend on where they originate and what areas they
affect. Neuropathic pain originates from the nerves or the nervous system in general. The signs that
you have this kind of pain are burning and tingling. Physicians believe that conditions such as diabetes
can trigger the pain. Other conditions such as shingles and carpal tunnel syndrome may also affect the
nerves and cause pain to the patient.
Visceral pain happens only once in a while. It does not really last for a long time. however, it can be
very painful. It happens when the organs of your body are irritated. One good example of this is the
menstrual cramps that some women experience when they have their period. The pain can also be
experienced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This means that you can simply manage your body to stop hurting. This type of pain management
suggests that a person can psychologically manage the pain and divert it away from the area in
question.
If the pain that you are experiencing is chronic, then you may want to consider the use of acupuncture
for your pain management. This is one of the better management techniques that a person can use in
making sure that they are pain free. There are all sorts of myths about acupuncture, but the technique
works wonders in the management of a person s pain.
Some pain management requires a person to go through a program to learn how to manage their pain
effectively. These programs often times involve a few classes that are spread out over the course of
several weeks. These are generally focused on natural methods of pain management that do not
require medication or any other foreign substances entering the body.
The next time that you are in pain, there are two things that you can do. Either let it ruin your plans or
try one of the pain management techniques that are listed here. These will go a long way in the overall
management of your

The Birth And Metamorphosis Of Hip Hop Dance
The Birth Metamorphosis of Hip Hop Dance I tend to to think of dancing as if it were a tree, with
roots stretching in all different directions. The roots of all dance forms can be traced back to many
cultures. To some, dance is seen as a hobby, but when closely observed, you will soon come to find
that the world of dance plays an amazing role in the evolution of modern society. The African
Diaspora and many other cultures contributed immensely to the form of Hip Hop and Street Dance.
When looking at hip hop at a glance, any dance enthusiast would most likely be able to point out at
least six or more moves from different dance forms. Hip hop dance has contributed to society
culturally, economically, and obviously musically. The African ... Show more content on

Variations of Hip Hop such as locking and popping have become extremely popular in the dancing
Hip Hop world. Don Campbellock Campbell created these freezing stylizations (Module11). His
dance crew the Lockers were seen as some of the pioneers of street dance. Don Campbell is said to be
responsible for breaking down many staging and concept barriers (Barnes). Due to Campbells success
in this area, street dancing is now seen as a true American art Form (Barnes). While these stylizations
were opening doors for dancers physically, musicians were experimenting with Hip Hop culture as
well. To society Hip hop was seen as a dance form meant to be popular in the original sense of the
word, meaning that it was for the people and not for the academy, hip hop moves were inspired by
complex rhythms and the down to earth movement style of African dancing. Music and movement
came together to form a new art (Hanson). The new trend of music that was popping up in New York
was centered around drum beats, electric decibles, and pounding bass. DJ Herc from NY was one of
the very first artists to create unique music from two different recording machines at one time. This
method was the birth of modern day Hip Hop music. The rhythms he created were one of the
important founding elements of hip hop; he also extended the dance section of songs so that the
dancers could show off their moves for a longer interlude, laying the

The Pros And Cons Of The Basel Accords
BAFI 1029
RISK MANAGEMENT ASSIGNMENT
S.VIGKNESH
S3532231
TOPIC 1
introduction
The Basel Accords is a set of regulations adhered by banks. The main goal was to help banks maintain
a minimum capital to sustain losses during a bad economy period. Also, to aid financial institutions
reduce risk while they grow and operate.
introduced in 2004, Basel II had an improved and stricter framework compared Basel I, yet during the
financial crisis it failed. The failure of Basel II regulations caused Basel III to be created. Its purpose
was to work along with Basel I and Basel III framework and regulation and concurrently provide extra
protection to banks during harsh periods by being more conservative.
subsequently, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, to keep the minimum liquidity, banks will reduce its lending services to its customers. Both
consumption and investment in the economy will be affected. GDP is the summation of government
expenditure, consumption, investment, and the difference between export and import. If both
consumption and investment are reduced, the GDP growth of an economy will be negatively affected.
In fact, a study in 2011 shows that the GDP growth would be decreased by 0.05% to 0.15% on a
medium term basis.
Conclusion
In my opinion there will always be pros and cons in regulations as there is no perfect regulation. In
order to achieve higher security, growth must be sacrificed, vice versa. This is evident in the change
from Basel II to Basel III. Basel III too has its own flaws such as relying too much on credit rating
agencies. Credit rating agencies, as proven by the subprime crisis can cause errors in their predictions.
As times goes, there will be a significant change to the current regulation to improve the flaws.
A good regulation should be able to be flexible. For instance, when the economy is safe and
flourishing, the regulation should be more relaxed and have decreased barriers for banks in terms of
the minimum requirement for capital reserves. And when the economy is floundering, a stricter
approach should be used. For example, the minimum requirements for requirement for capital reserves
should be increased.

Technological Innovations in the Middle Ages
The middle ages of the west during the tenth to thirteenth centuries were a time of technological
innovation. This revolution focused on the study and exploitation of various sources of energy,
particularly water and wind, as well as the discovery of new mineral resources and a revolution in
agriculture that rivaled that of industry. This boom brought about a cluster of new methods and
devices that propelled urban growth and a firm belief in progress. The revolution of the middle age
also shows the emergence of some critical factors that are used in modern day capitalism. By the
fourteenth century the benefits of these developments were in serious decline. The setting became
more of moral uncertainty and ecological crisis because of the continued exploitation of the natural
resources. This continued use of resources led to inflation and depression, and of technological
decline.
Gimpel proposes a comparison of the interrelationships to new developments in the West, most
notably in the United States, where he recognizes a second decline that is similar to that of the Middle
Ages, and similarly due to technological factors. He sees the United States closely following the
events of the Middle Ages. However, the decline of the Middle Age was halted by new attitudes and
inventions from that of the mid fifteenth century onward. The same cannot be said for that of the
United States, who cannot rely on any kind of bailout.
The most innovative and worthwhile creations of the

Jewish Occupation In Poland During Ww2
In the countryside s of Poland during the Occupation by Nazi Germany Jews were vulnerable against
both the German State and even their own State of Poland. The people who had previously lived right
next door to them, were now seen as potentially enemies. No matter the location that Jews were at in
Poland they were being watched. People of all backgrounds were keeping a watch on any Jews that
were living in their communities. Jewish citizens were on constant alert because of reports coming
from other towns of how Jews were being rounded up and either killed on the spot, or taken to

This morning a number of Jews attempted to escape from the city, but they were stopped by other
Jews who were afraid that a mass escape would give the Germans an excuse for more killing. This
began to show how vulnerable the Jews were, they were going through not only physical but mental
stresses. Jews not only had to worry about Germanys shooting them, but also other Jews from

Surrealism And Surrealism In Dalli s Dali By Dawn Ades
The book Dali by Dawn Ades is a sophisticated biography of Salvador Dali. It starts with his early
years of works and continues in how he found his own way of painting regarding both technique and
concept. At the first pages of chapter three his attempt to be a surrealist and surrealists reaction this
attempt is been discussed. Then, the impact of Freud ideas on Dali s paintings and psycho analysis are
what writer explains. On chapter four it is shown that how Dali was influenced by the notion of

each individual how to interpret them. In fact, things have multiple meanings and what people
interpret comes from what they know and what experiences they have had in their life. The more
people dig in a painting, the more they would understand. When he started using paranoiac critical
method he had been influenced by Jacques Lacan s idea about paranoia. A paranoid person sees what
others see but interpret it as s scary or irritating notion. A delirium of interpretation is what he focused

Traditional Family Research Paper
I was raised to believe that family is the most important aspect of life, and that family should stand up
for one another. I took this a step father and said that friends are part of the family to. I was raised by a
veteran and a mother who s side has family problems. Both of them raised me to stand up for my
sisters as if no one ever would.
The only story that I believe is close to this is one about my friend not about a member of my
traditional family. It starts one day at school, one of my friends was be bullied by some kids bigger
than him. I decided that if no one stood up than what makes us any better, so I walked over and told
them to knock it off. It didn t go to plan though they picked on both of us. Until some more of my
friends decided that this isn t right and stood up to join our side. After, that the bullies, seeing them out
numbered, walked away saying they won t be around every time. Right there I decided that friends
sometimes should be considered family, because we all need to stand up for each other. ... Show more

How Do The Arts Affect High School Students
Art Programs are Fundamental to Education.
While many people believe that the arts are not a necessity for the school curriculum and that it has no
effect on students academic achievements, it actually plays a big part in it. The arts have a great
influence on students academic results as well as the students overall. Art programs are a necessity to
schools as it helps at risk students as well as regular students. New research has proven that the arts
help at risk students have better academic results as well as help them become more civically engaged
among other things. Independent studies have shown that high school students who are enrolled in art
classes tend to have higher math and verbal SAT scores than the latter students who do not. Other

Fourteenth Amendment Case Study
Alabama s state constitution calls for a reapportionment every ten years. But, in 1961 the state had not
been reapportioned since 1901. This upset many Alabama residents. Roughly one fourth of the state s
population could vote for the majority of the state senators and representatives. Finally, M.O. Sims
and many other residents of Jefferson County, Alabama challenged the apportionment of the state
legislature. They sued state officials in federal district court stating that this malapportionment denied
them equal voting rights. They believed that this imbalance diluted their votes. They argued that some
ratios of people to legislatures were as high as fourteen to one in senate districts and up to sixteen to
one in the lower house. The district court agreed with Sims. They ruled that his Fourteenth
Amendment equal protection rights were being violated. The district court demanded that the state to
draw up new apportionment plans as soon as possible. Alabama s legislature came up with two
different apportionment plans; however, neither of the two plans were based on strictly population.
Consequently, the district court declared them both unconstitutional. In response, B.A. Reynolds ...

Himmler And Macbeth Corruption
Architects of Death: Corruption of Power
Both Himmler and Macbeth were good men before they became corrupted by the promise of power.
As the sagas of their lives unfolded, they fell victim to corruption; it was the one constant throughout
both of their reigns. Once corruption took hold only violence could follow. They had blood stained
hands when they came to power; in both instances, it was the predominant reason they were elevated
to their new positions. It is as difficult to imagine their reigns without violence as it is with the
violence they implemented. Macbeth oppressed the population of Scotland, swiftly and
indiscriminately killing any who opposed him. Himmler was the primary architect of the Final
Solution, which saw over 11,000,000 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The only people that remain in his castle are servants who have little choice in the matter. However,
Macbeth s resolve remains unshaken because of the witches second apparition, who said; laugh to
scorn/ The power of man, for none of woman born/ Shall harm Macbeth (IV.I.85 87). This convinced
Macbeth that nobody could kill him since all people are of woman born (he was born by Caesarian
Section). The third apparition said; Macbeth shall never vanquish d be until/ Great Birnam wood to
high Dunisdane hill/ Shall come against him (IV.I.100 102). This only served to further Macbeth s
overconfidence because he took what the apparitions told him literally and was certain that a forest

trying to genuinely help him. In Act 5 Scene 8, Macduff reveals to Macbeth that he; was from his

Bromination Of E-Stilbene Lab Report
Bromination of E Stilbene Kelly Marroquin Fall 2017 Lab Section: 353 01 Lab Partner: Seon Lee
Abstract: The bromination of the alkane was calculated and the overall percent yield was 96.35% with
the percent yield with the calculated theoretical yield was 79.85%. The addition reaction was
synthesized with a mechanism using 3 steps. The E Stilbene reacted with pyridinium hydromide

Materials and Methods/Experimental: The materials used for this experiment was an Erlenmeyer flask
and a vacuum filtration. To start off, in an Erlenmeyer flask approximately 0.51 g of E stilbene with 10
mL of acetic acid was dissolved. A hot water bath was prepared and the mixture was warmed until the
solid is completely dissolved. After the solution was dissolved, 1.02 gram of pyridinium hydromide
perbromide was added. The crystals around the flask were rinsed with a small amount of acetic acid
and the solution was continued in the hot water bath for one to two minutes. The stilbene dibromide
precipitated immediately as small plates. The mixture was cooled under tap water helping crystals
form. The mixture was cooled before collecting the product by a vacuum filtration. For the crystals not
to stick in the flask, the solution was washed with small amounts of ice cold methanol. When done
pouring, the isolated solid dried for a few minutes in the filtration. To increase drying time, the
crystals were pressed down. When the solid was collected, data such as melting point, percent yield
and infrared spectroscopy spectrum values were collected. Results and Discussion: When all the data
was collected, the solid was weighed and in total the watch glass with the solid weighed 16.52 grams.
When the weight of the watch glass was subtracted, 0.77g of the solid stilbene bromide is left. In order
to calculate the percent yield, the theoretical yield is taken.

The Relationship And Gender Of The Bugis Society
The south western peninsula of Celebes island Sulawesi in modern Indonesia, is the home to the Bugis
people with a population of more than three million people. They belong to the great family of the
Austronesian people and for centuries, the Bugis are known as the Insulindian people and it was
widely known that they had been mainly a seafaring people however, in reality, they are primarily
famers and their maritime activities did not gain people attentions until the eighteen century and they

the Bugis society and the changes in their system by looking at some empirical data from
anthropologist who studies the Bugis in depth.
Christian Pelras in his book The Bugis published in 1996 has studied about the history and way of life
of the Bugis. He has explain regarding the changes in the Bugis society in the early civilisation, pre
islamic period and the modernization which has impact the Bugis society as a whole. Despite the

The Impact of Sea Otters on Marine Ecology Essay
Sea otters (Enhydra lutris) are marine mammals capable of spending their entire lives in water. Being
carnivorous in nature, they feed on sea urchins, crabs, fishes, mussels and clams. They are referred to
as keystone species due to their profound impact on marine ecology. The interaction between sea
otters, sea urchins and kelp forests has been studied as a model of the impact of predator prey
interaction on community ecology. Sea otters are keystone predators, whose presence has a far
reaching influence on the marine food web by affecting the population of sea urchins in particular, and
kelp forests other marine organisms in general. There has been a steep decline in sea otter populations

Kelp forests are a source of food and habitat for dozens of other coastal species (qtd. in Soulé et al
1240). Therefore, to maintain the diversity and richness of the coastal marine ecology, kelp forests
should be preserved.
Impact of sea otters on community ecology
The presence or absence of sea otters influences marine ecology at the community level. Studies have
shown that kelp forests enhance the underwater environment, providing a suitable habitat for fishes.
The declining kelp beds in California in the mid 1900 s propelled the Kelp Habitat Improvement
Project, whereby attempts were made to eliminate sea urchins that are primary predators of kelps.
Studies showed that the elimination of sea otters during the 1800s from the Californian waters might
be responsible for the dwindling numbers of kelp forests. Further studies have also shown that the
population density of sea otters affects seaweed biodiversity as well. In a study conducted in Alaska
on three different bays, the Torch Bay, Deer Harbor and the Surge Bay, it was found that the presence
of sea otters led to a decrease in the population of sea urchins, which led to an increase in the
population of seaweeds. In addition, it was also found that annual kelps predominated the areas where
sea otters were present, and perennial kelps predominated in areas that had lesser sea otter populations

Amusing Ourselves For Death By Neil Postman
In the second part of Neil Postman s book, Amusing Ourselves to Death, the author examines the
medium of education in order to exhibit how it has affected and fashioned modern public discourse.
Postman uses a two part argument on the topic of the influence that television has over education. In
order to properly demonstrate the authors view and evidence on this subject of discourse, as well as
my own, I will explore how television presents education as well as how exactly television has
managed to alter education when it is faced outside of television. Postman believes that when the
discourse of education is presented on television, its only purpose is to entertain. Education on
television is believed to teach youth in a way that they will embrace with open arms due to their prior
understanding to television. To further expand on his own viewpoint, Postman makes the claim that
television is a curriculum. The author defines a curriculum to be a specifically constructed information
system whose purpose is to influence, teach, train or cultivate the mind and character of youth (146).
The author makes the claim that rather than achieving its aim to teach and train youth in a more
colorful fashion, it instead only draws the young viewer to love the images that are being shown
through a screen. The author proposes that television has three separate commandments that make up
the values of education. Postman introduces the first commandment, thou shalt have no prerequisites,

Coah Boone Character Analysis
Coah Boone and Coah Yoast demonstrate leadership qualities in a different way. Coah Boone reveals
authority and confidence when he is coach regardless of he is black in the community, he divides both
the races of players to sit and sleep together at the camp no matter what race they are in which he
hopes that it would bring the players together. He wants them to be familiar and understand each other
as a team. On the other hand, Coah Yoast also uncovers insightful and accountability when it comes to
segregation, when his players run toward the black at the beginning of the movie, he runs a car ahead
of them to stop them from it and he is always politely taking to the black unlike his daughter. He

Coah Boone treats others with dignity as the coach of a team where there are both American and
African American players. He wants the players to feel friendly and comfortable being with each
other, therefore, he forces each player to make friend which a different race player and mixed players
as though there is no racism. This create an environment where players hated each others at the start
yet when they start to comprehend each other, they become friends. Coah Boone s daughter denies
others dignity when Bill Yoast s daughter invited her to play basketball with her. By doing this, she is
causing hatred and unfriendly environment with Bill Yoast s daughter in which can lead to racism
between two races.
Throughout the movie of Remember the Titans, the director portray a theme about friendship. He
reveals how with friendship, every person can overcome their strongest struggles like segregation and
racism at the time. In order to build friendship, one must get to know another similar to how the
African Americans and the Americans players get to know each other at the camp and at the games
that they played. For example, Gerry and Julius are strongly against each other at the beginning of the
movie yet when they play with each other, they understand each other better and found that they can
actually be friend and trusted each other in their actions. Moreover, the team also demonstrate a theme
of friendship due to the fact that

Analysis Of DonT Try By John Bukowski
Both poets authored very complex work, but Bukowski never leaves his readers wishing he had
stopped writing at a certain line. Several 17th century poets have been known to have awe inspiring
lines or couplets or even a few stanzas of pure genius and then they ruin it by trying to add another
point or develop their poem further. Bukowski avoids this problem by writing short, concise, and to
the point poetry that leaves the reader satisfied and slightly corrupted. One of his shortest poems can
easily be his tomb stone which has two words written on it: Don t Try.
In October 1963, Bukowski recounted in a letter to John William Corrington how someone once asked
him, What do you do? How do you write, create? To which, he replied: You ... Show more content on

It is a rare gift to be able to write something so immense that a person is left both bewildered and
astounded at the complexity of life. Time and time again, Bukowski writes about not trying, not
forcing a future or a line or a job out of a person.
When it is truly time, and if you have been chosen, it will do it by itself and it will keep on doing it
until you die or it dies in you (Bukowski).
In his poem So You Want to be a Writer , he pleads with his readers to not try to be writers to not force
words on a page that were never meant to be there in the first place. He believed that a person s
purpose was either made clear to them or it was not, but to force any particular future onto another
was easily the greatest crime against humanity. Throughout the history of the written word, it seems
only the greatest works survive, but in contemporary culture that has not been the case. Today, anyone
can be a writer. With social media and technology, a person can publish a novel online and be
considered a writer. Bukowski begs society to turn away from this new trend and to not contribute to
the downfall of literature.
Don t be like so many writers, don t be like so many thousands of people who call themselves writers,

Sublime Elements in Of Love and Other Demons Essay
Sublime Elements in Of Love and Other Demons
The book Of Love and Other Demons (1994), written by the Columbian Gabriel Garcia Marquez, has
more characteristics of sublime literature than of magical realist literature. Magical Realism and the
sublime are so closely related that distinguishing between the two is hard. They are more closely
related than magical realism and the fantastic.
Of Love and Other Demons has elements of magical realism. Of all the magical elements, the most
important and the most obvious is the dream that is shared by both Sierva and Delaura before they
meet. The long red hair of Sierva is an example of a magic realist element that is hidden. The death of

they also partake of a dreamlike quality which aligns them with a host of other magical realist devices
and motifs (Theim 237). This device is also similar to Weiskel s third phase of the sublime, the
reactive phase (qtd in Sandner 52). During this time, the mind recovers the balance of outer and inner
by constituting a fresh relation between itself and the object (qtd. in Sandner 52).
Another way in which the story may correspond with the sublime is Sierva s long red hair that had not
been cut from the day she was born until the end of her excorcism. Wordsworth says, about the
sublime, Even in the scenes drawn from ordinary life, [the authors] would throw over them a certain
coloring of the imagination (qtd. in Sander 60). This effect is exactly what Marquez does with Sierva s
hair. He alluded that there may be something supernatural about it. The sublime affirm[s] a spiritual
dimension to fantasy and explores, through fantastic images, the meaning and existence of spirit
(Sandner 145). Transformation, another sublime characteristic, is used to show how one s perception
of something changes (qtd in Sandner 51). Instead of being just hair, it was a promise to Dominga s
god. Defamiliarization, which is a characteristic of both the sublime and magical realism (Simpkins
150), is used in Of Love and Other Demons. It focuses one s attention on something, such as hair, that
he or she would normally think nothing

Vasculitis Essay
By Jonas Wilson, Ing. Med.
Vasculitis affecting large arteries
A large vessel essentially refers to the aorta and its largest branches that are directed to the head and
neck and the extremities. The hallmark in terms of pathology with large vessel vasculitides is that
chronic inflammatory lesions are primarily found inside of the walls of vessels and not on the outside.
This is a key distinction that can be used in order to separate large vessel from small vessel
pathologies, which present with inflammation on the outside of the vessel wall in addition to being
found within. The two main large artery vasculitides that will be discussed below are giant cell
arteritis (GCA) and Takayasu disease.
Giant cell arteritis
Also known as temporal arteritis or Horton s arteritis, giant cell arteritis is a fairly common systemic
vasculitide with a higher prevalence in women and peak incidence almost exclusively after the fifth
decade of life. GCA typically has a gradual onset, but an abrupt one is not unheard of. Most of its

claudication (pain induced by movement due to vessel obstruction) of the jaw. Due to the intense

patients, the condition is considered a medical emergency. Ocular manifestations also indicate
increased risk for central nervous system complications such as ischemic stroke. Steroid therapy with
calcium and vitamin D supplements is the cornerstone of treatment for GCA. Moreover, in terms of
prognosis, there is no associated increase in mortality of patients that are treated with timely diagnosis

The Simpsons, Family Guy, Aladdin, And All The Scary Movie...
There are many movies, books, and TV shows that make fun of evil. The Simpsons, Family Guy,
Aladdin, and all the Scary Movie movies. There are numerous ways in which each makes fun of evil.
Scary Movie alone uses numerous ways to mock evil, and turns all these scary, evil things into
something to laugh about. Aladdin has people who are supposed to be evil, and come up with all these
ideas to destroy good, but it always turns around on the evil people and works out for good. The
Simpsons has an episode where Homer sells his soul for a doughnut, and another episode where
Homer kills Death. These TV shows and movies have something in common though, and that is the
way they belittle evil. Most will have good triumph over evil which, models Augustinian theodicy.
Why do many TV shows and movies ridicule evil? It could be any number of reasons. Perhaps people
didn t want to fear it anymore, and thus, belittled it and took away its power over people. Maybe it is
for any other number of reasons. However, no matter the reason, these numerous TV shows and
movies afore mentioned, mock evil.
In Aladdin, there is a parrot named Iago. Iago is voiced by Gilbert Gottfried and appeared in the first
film as the sidekick to the main antagonist Jafar, and later becomes one of the protagonists for the rest
of the franchise s run. He even leaves Jafar, and goes on to try to cause chaos on his own while

Home Schooling Education
Homeschooling is the education of children at home, usually taught by a parent or tutor, rather than in
public or private school. Homeschooling is an option for families living in isolated rural locations,
living temporarily abroad, or families who travel often. This method of education is growing around
the world. Homeschools use different educational methods such as: Unit Studies, All in One Curricula,
Natural Learning, and Autonomous Learning. In the Unit Studies method multiple subjects are studied
in relation to a single topic. The All in One Curricula is another method in which the curriculum and
homework of the student are similar or identical to the curriculum at a public or private school.
Natural Learning is a method where children follow knowledge based on their interest and the parents
take part in their learning activities. In the Autonomous Learning method, the child is responsible for
their own learning environment. Parents give different reasons for choosing to homeschool their
children. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, the three reasons parents chose
homeschooling were: their concern about the school environment, to provide religious or moral
instruction, and unhappiness with the curriculum available at other schools (Gaither 1).
Homeschooling happened because of the changes in public school and in families. Public schools
grew larger and the schools began to add offensive courses to their curriculum. Milton Gaither states,

Personal Essay On Baking Literacy
Baking Literacy
My experience baking extends back to when I was four or five years old and I would help my mom
bake chocolate chip cookies. These cookies have always been a signature dish of my mother s and
they are delicious. A couple of years later I remember baking an apple crisp by myself while my mom
was making dinner but close at hand just in case I needed help. From these early days of baking, I
learned to follow a recipe with ease and bake almost anything I wanted to that our home kitchen and
kitchen aid mixer could handle. One story that truly demonstrates my ability to bake is the one I will
be recounting in this narrative. Because I have baked all my life I am literate when it comes to baking.
For many years both my sister and I have entered exhibits in the Dixie Classic Fair. 2015 in particular
is a year that stands out because of the pride I felt in my entry. That year I decided to bake a chocolate
pound cake. I received the recipe from my paternal grandmother, who is also adept in the kitchen. Her
recipe had come from another family member, my great grandmother s sister who had worked ...

grow more excited as I realized my cake was correctly fulfilling the criteria provided by the fair such
as having a slight bounce when gently pressed. Finally, I arrived at the exhibit hall where I would turn
in my cake for judging. As the fluorescent lights gleamed overhead, I weaved through display cases
beginning to be filled with sewing projects, homemade preserves, and other baked goods. I had only

Contraception In The Twentieth Century
In the twentieth century men relied on condoms made from animal intestines, and women relied on
douches that were made by household items. Pennyroyal and savin were used as methods of abortion
by being inserted into the vagina. Contraception in the twentieth century was nothing close to the way
it is now. Contraception is the purposeful use of artificial methods or techniques to prevent pregnancy.
In the twentieth century there was a movement to make birth control available for women all around.
The birth control movement which was led by Margaret Sanger played a huge role in the twentieth
century and in bringing attention to the women s health movement and their right to have control over
their own bodies. According to the article, Ancient Chinese Contraceptive Choices, long before the
movement Chinese women drank mercury and lead which often led to death instead of as a way of
contraception. In Europe, women were advised to wear the testicles of a weasel on their thighs and its
foot around their neck. Egyptians mixed acacia leaves with honey to prevent pregnancy. ... Show more

it was only meant for creation. This Comstock Act also allowed post offices to confiscate any birth

Examples Of Discourse Communities
REDO DISCOURSE COMMUNITY
Everyone has the same goal in a discourse community, achieving a set goal. Whether it be getting
work done or doing something for fun everyone has a goal in a group. The reason why people come
together to form a group is usually one they cannot achieve alone. Playing a game alone makes it
reasonably boring but with other people involved makes the game more fun. Unlike most discourse
communities the players in the game Dota 2 do not do a physical activity. While ninety percent of
discourse communities come together to finish manual labor, the community of Dota 2 comes together
to have fun. This proves that not all discourse communities form to do work.

A way to pick teammates is to usually make friends and have fun with them. Older Timers within the
group you can usually pick out because they have a more negative view on the game and are harsh to

starting out and is very open minded about what they can do. This usually fades after a month of
playing the game. You also can tell who s a new player based on what they buy and how they play. I ve
had the luxury of interviewing a young teen that is on a small, competitive team. When the teen was

nearly 1000 hours later, I play because I know so much about the game it makes it more fun to make

bragging rights of just being good , players play to be able to have a fun activity with their friends or
just simply make friends. It s ridiculously easy to make friends in game considering if you do, these
people see you from when you started to where you currently are now. This gives them a sense of

Why Spartans Are The Best Warrior
Why Spartans Are The Best Warrior s
If a war was to take place, and the Spartans are the enemy warriors, you better pray to god you live to

all time. Could it be that they begin training to become a warrior at the age of 7? Or could it be how
they were starved and only could get food by being a successful warrior. Spartans can be recognized
as cruel warriors that cared for no one, when actually they had to be blood thirsty otherwise they
would not survive themselves. Throughout this essay I will claim the hardships a Spartan had to go

My Perfect Vacation Home
As a family, every once in a while we need a vacation where we can get a great getaway from the

Earlier on when I was a teenager, my parents had a holiday cabin in the mountains, a place far from

The modern American child is clearly a target for companies seeking to make more and more money
from kids who constantly want more and more stuff. But advertisers fail to acknowledge the harm

children lack the ability to discern when they are being manipulated. That means that unlike adults,

My Experience With Mba Student Team Development

Team members are like family; you don t get to choose them. In my 10 year Project Management
career, building productive teams of individuals with varying skills, gender, age, culture, work ethics,
has been my biggest challenge.
One of the most quoted Team development models was proposed by Bruce Tuckman in 1960. The five
developmental sequence are: Forming; Storming; Norming, Performing and Adjourning.
In this paper, I have used this model to compare and contrast my experience with the MBA student
team development exercise and my experience as PM in my current job. Why was my experience in
these 2 environments, different?
Stage 1 Forming: When enthusiastic individuals come together to form a team:
For the exercise, the teams were pre assigned. Our team consisted of a diverse group of folks from the
perspective of gender, ethnicity, age, professional background and experience. With the activity
duration set at 1 hour, the team did both, introduction and understanding of the assignment at the same
time. This team truly formed itself and equal leadership was established among the MBA students,
within the first minute or two
In the real world too, the project team members are pre assigned and they are excited and ready to
contribute. Unlike in the exercise, in the real world, team members don t establish equal leadership.

Symbols In A Rose For Emily
The literary works in the short story ¨A Rose For Emily¨ by American Author William Faulkner is an
influential work because of the symbols, motifs, and theme that are expressed throughout the story,
which are based upon love and relationships. Faulkner portrays the story in third person limited which
allows us to know the thoughts and feelings of a single charcter. The narrator is never identified
throughout the story, but when we examine the tone we can understand there is this we person, who
changes his/her mind about Miss Emily at certain points in the narration. A symbol is something used
for or regarded as representing something else. One instance of symbolism in this short story is in the
title itself. The rose is a symbol of love in which case Homer is the rose or love for Emily. Emily s
father wanted the best for her, so he thought that no one was good enough. When her father passed

The Styl Style Of Anita Desai
Anita Desai undoubtedly holds a prominent position among the Contemporary writers of Indo
Anglican fiction. She is a bold and experimental Novelist with a new sense and vibrant richness.
Much attention is given to the emotional crisis of her protagonists who live in a chaotic society. She
delves deep to find out the factors responsible for such a despair and attempts to suggest solutions to
overcome it. From her novels, it is clear that she, possesses one of the healthiest and psychologically
most balanced minds in the realm of Indo Anglican fiction and the sanity of her tastes and attitudes, is
almost exemplary, a point worth emulation for her fellow religionists in the field of writing. As a
woman writer she does not profess to be a feminist and yet she voices the fears and concerns, the
hopes and aspirations of her characters in her own artistic way. She is deeply fascinated in exploring
the social structure through the central characters in her novels. She is a minute observer of the society
existing around her, perceiving everything minutely and delicately so that the situations can be
presented in a poetic style.
Anita Desai differs from other Indian novelists such as R K Narayan,
Mulkraj Anand, Bhabani Bhattacharya, Raja Rao in her set of language and ... Show more content on

Where shall we go this summer is an intense story of a sensitive young wife torn between the desire to
abandon the boredom and hypocrisy of her middle class and ostensibly comfortable existence, and the
realization that the bonds that bind her to it cannot easily be broken.
Skillful dramatization the narrative is precariously perched between myth and social reality for the
talent itself, as the novel evidences, is exceptional in its inmate sensibility and awareness of the craft

History And Culture Of The Cook Islands
History of Culture
The history behind the culture of the Cook Islands came from the various sources of ancient
migration, and early land settlement. The islands got its name from a British man named Captain
James Cook. He landed on the island in 1773. It was in the 19th century is when missionaries started
to come to the islands. They brought with them many sicknesses as well as churches and schools to
share the gospel. Through this, the island s dominate religion is Christianity.
In the Cook Islands culture, all the islands employed a chiefly system based on traditional legends of
migration and settlement (Cook Islands: Art and Culture). Born to power as chiefs and inheritors,
Polynesian culture before Europe s involvement, falls nothing short to that in comparison to Greece s
heroic period. Like Homer s concept in early 1200 BC, islanders adopted a similar and identical
concept of belief known as, Mana , or power. This concept consisted of: connection, feasting, dancing,
offerings of food, attitudes toward females, and the absence of individualism (Cook Islands: Art and
Culture).
Cook Islands culture is based on family and celebration. Since the Cook Islands are made up of many
smaller islands, it is relevant that Cook Islanders choose to identify first with their individual island
and secondarily with the country as an entirety.
Uniqueness of the Culture
Differing from other regions and their cultures, Polynesian culture is unique due to having their own

Costs and Requirements of Caring for Bearded Dragons Essay
Bearded Dragons are becoming quite a common pet! Bearded Dragons can come in many different
morphs or colors. Bearded Dragons are a very docile reptile. In addition, it is very easy to take care of
in comparison with other reptiles. There several things a person would need to start a breeding pair of
Bearded Dragons. Such as, two Bearded Dragons, a food source, a habitat, lighting, and incubation
area. In addition, breeding requires other special aspects like making sure that there is one female and
one male. Another obstacle is getting the pair to mate. Not every two lizards someone puts together
just start mating; the lizards have to like each other. What do you need to care for and breed Bearded
Dragons? How much would it cost to start ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of decorations would be a vine, logs, foliage, a background, or even a statue. For tank
lighting, you will need a UVB light and a heat light. The lighting will cost anywhere from sixty to a
hundred dollars. If you plan on breeding expensive morphs of Bearded Dragons then they will cost
around $150 dollars each. If you just plan to breed common Bearded Dragons, you could probably
pick up a pair for seventy dollars. In addition, you will need a form of water mister. An example of a
mister would be a spray bottle. That can run anywhere around three dollars at a pet store. The food
source is very important, and food can be expensive. Bearded dragons are omnivorous [meaning they
will eat both insects and vegetables] (Bearded Dragon Guide). Blaptica Dubia roaches are the food
source I am incorporating in this estimate. Dubia Roaches are one of the few insects which actually
bear live young and so there are no messy eggs dotting your substrate or egg crates ( Blaptica Dubia
Roaches ). Dubia Roaches are easier to maintain and reproduce faster and more than crickets and
super worms. For the breeding habitat and the large breeding pack of Dubia roaches, it cost around
$300 dollars. I would choose to have a colony of my Bearded Dragons food source so I would save
money in the end. In addition to the roaches, you will need reptile vitamins to dust the roaches. The
vitamin powered cost roughly twenty dollars. The incubator for the eggs will cost around seventy to a

There was no furniture or interior fitting in the illustrations; instead one could only find scattered Japanese figures dressed in traditional Kimono along the scroll. The roots of all dance forms can be traced back to many cultures. The African Diaspora and many other cultures contributed immensely to the form of Hip Hop and Street Dance. To society Hip hop was seen as a dance form meant to be popular in the original sense of the word, meaning that it was for the people and not for the academy, hip hop moves were inspired by complex rhythms and the down to earth movement style of African dancing. Music and movement came together to form a new art (Hanson). The new trend of music that was popping up in New York was centered around drum beats, electric decibles, and pounding bass. DJ Herc from NY was one of the very first artists to create unique music from two different recording machines at one time. This method was the birth of modern day Hip Hop music. The main goal was to help banks maintain a minimum capital to sustain losses during a bad economy period. Also, to aid financial institutions reduce risk while they grow and operate. introduced in 2004, Basel II had an improved and stricter framework compared Basel I, yet during the financial crisis it failed. The failure of Basel II regulations caused Basel III to be created. Both consumption and investment in the economy will be affected. GDP is the summation of government expenditure, consumption, investment, and the difference between export and import. If both consumption and investment are reduced, the GDP growth of an economy will be negatively affected. In fact, a study in 2011 shows that the GDP growth would be decreased by 0.05% to 0.15% on a medium term basis. Conclusion In my opinion there will always be pros and cons in regulations as there is no perfect regulation. In order to achieve higher security, growth must be sacrificed, vice versa. This is evident in the change from Basel II to Basel III. Basel III too has its own flaws such as relying too much on credit rating agencies. Credit rating agencies, as proven by the subprime crisis can cause errors in their predictions. As times goes, there will be a significant change to the current regulation to improve the flaws. A good regulation should be able to be flexible. For instance, when the economy is safe and flourishing, the regulation should be more relaxed and have decreased barriers for banks in terms of the minimum requirement for capital reserves. And when the economy is floundering, a stricter

  • 9. Technological Innovations in the Middle Ages The middle ages of the west during the tenth to thirteenth centuries were a time of technological innovation. This revolution focused on the study and exploitation of various sources of energy, particularly water and wind, as well as the discovery of new mineral resources and a revolution in agriculture that rivaled that of industry. This boom brought about a cluster of new methods and devices that propelled urban growth and a firm belief in progress. The revolution of the middle age also shows the emergence of some critical factors that are used in modern day capitalism. By the fourteenth century the benefits of these developments were in serious decline. The setting became more of moral uncertainty and ecological crisis because of the continued exploitation of the natural resources. This continued use of resources led to inflation and depression, and of technological decline. Gimpel proposes a comparison of the interrelationships to new developments in the West, most notably in the United States, where he recognizes a second decline that is similar to that of the Middle Ages, and similarly due to technological factors. He sees the United States closely following the events of the Middle Ages. However, the decline of the Middle Age was halted by new attitudes and inventions from that of the mid fifteenth century onward. The same cannot be said for that of the United States, who cannot rely on any kind of bailout. The most innovative and worthwhile creations of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Therefore, to maintain the diversity and richness of the coastal marine ecology, kelp forests should be preserved. Impact of sea otters on community ecology The presence or absence of sea otters influences marine ecology at the community level. Studies have shown that kelp forests enhance the underwater environment, providing a suitable habitat for fishes. The declining kelp beds in California in the mid 1900 s propelled the Kelp Habitat Improvement Project, whereby attempts were made to eliminate sea urchins that are primary predators of kelps. Studies showed that the elimination of sea otters during the 1800s from the Californian waters might be responsible for the dwindling numbers of kelp forests. Further studies have also shown that the population density of sea otters affects seaweed biodiversity as well. In a study conducted in Alaska on three different bays, the Torch Bay, Deer Harbor and the Surge Bay, it was found that the presence of sea otters led to a decrease in the population of sea urchins, which led to an increase in the population of seaweeds. Amusing Ourselves For Death By Neil Postman In the second part of Neil Postman s book, Amusing Ourselves to Death, the author examines the medium of education in order to exhibit how it has affected and fashioned modern public discourse. Postman uses a two part argument on the topic of the influence that television has over education. In order to properly demonstrate the authors view and evidence on this subject of discourse, as well as my own, I will explore how television presents education as well as how exactly television has managed to alter education when it is faced outside of television. Postman believes that when the discourse of education is presented on television, its only purpose is to entertain. Education on television is believed to teach youth in a way that they will embrace with open arms due to their prior understanding to television. To further expand on his own viewpoint, Postman makes the claim that television is a curriculum. The author defines a curriculum to be a specifically constructed information system whose purpose is to influence, teach, train or cultivate the mind and character of youth (146). The author makes the claim that rather than achieving its aim to teach and train youth in a more colorful fashion, it instead only draws the young viewer to love the images that are being shown through a screen. Wordsworth says, about the sublime, Even in the scenes drawn from ordinary life, [the authors] would throw over them a certain coloring of the imagination (qtd. in Sander 60). This effect is exactly what Marquez does with Sierva s hair. He alluded that there may be something supernatural about it. The sublime affirm[s] a spiritual dimension to fantasy and explores, through fantastic images, the meaning and existence of spirit (Sandner 145). Transformation, another sublime characteristic, is used to show how one s perception of something changes (qtd in Sandner 51). Instead of being just hair, it was a promise to Dominga s god. • 24. Vasculitis Essay By Jonas Wilson, Ing. Med. Vasculitis affecting large arteries A large vessel essentially refers to the aorta and its largest branches that are directed to the head and neck and the extremities. The hallmark in terms of pathology with large vessel vasculitides is that chronic inflammatory lesions are primarily found inside of the walls of vessels and not on the outside. This is a key distinction that can be used in order to separate large vessel from small vessel pathologies, which present with inflammation on the outside of the vessel wall in addition to being found within. The two main large artery vasculitides that will be discussed below are giant cell arteritis (GCA) and Takayasu disease. Giant cell arteritis Also known as temporal arteritis or Horton s arteritis, giant cell arteritis is a fairly common systemic vasculitide with a higher prevalence in women and peak incidence almost exclusively after the fifth decade of life. In the Autonomous Learning method, the child is responsible for their own learning environment. Parents give different reasons for choosing to homeschool their children. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, the three reasons parents chose homeschooling were: their concern about the school environment, to provide religious or moral instruction, and unhappiness with the curriculum available at other schools (Gaither 1).
