Born Poor And Smart By Angela Locke
In chapter sixteen, Social Class and Inequality the essays show different cases in which being rich,
poor, smart or middle class can affect a person. In the writings of Angela Locke in Born Poor and
Smart (338 339) Angela summarizes her life of what it was like growing up with a poor, yet smart
mother. However, in When Shelter Feels like a Prison (374 376) Charmion Browne writes about being
poor, and living in homeless shelters. Somethings in life, are no more than learning experiences, and
only you can change it. First off, lets discuss the essay of Angela Locke. Angela grew up in a
household that was poor. Her mother worked at the E Z Bargain Center. When not working there she
spent her time picking up after her four kids, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Being left feeling like she had no place and that she belonged nowhere. Something that Angela battles
with until the present time is feeling the privelage that can distinguish her from the rich and the poor.
Wealthy people never question their worth. They don t seem like they need to since they were brought
up with a golden spoon in their mouth, they feel as if they are better than people. However, in my
opinion someone like Angela Locke is the one that shouldn t question her worth. She is the one who
rose up against the odds and made something of herself and wasn t handed everything in life. Class
relations isn t only about having a monetary value. It also can be about having a relationship to
success. Angela says that My definition of success has something to do with money, but everything to
do with class. (339) To break that statement down, she doesn t feel that she needs to only be rich, but
have more class and social standing. However I don t think that someone should compare themselves
to another person. Just because one person is more successful than another, it doesn t always mean
they earned it like the one that worked their way up from nothing. The person that works their way up
has way more class in my opinion because they know what it s like to be at the bottom, and the ones
that come from wealth never have known that feeling. In a different, yet similar perspective Charmion
Browne discusses what it is like growing up in homeless

The Communist Manifesto And Das Kapital
Karl Marx
A German philosopher, economist, journalist and revolutionary scientist, Marx was best known for his
work in economics. He laid the foundations for today s theories of labor and capital. The Communist
Manifesto and Das Kapital were among the most famous of his published works. Born to a middle
class family in Trier, Prussia in 1818, his parents were Jewish, but converted to Christianity in 1816
due to strict anti Jewish laws. He was baptized as a Christian at the age of six but later on became an
atheist (Staff, 2009). He received his education in universities of Berlin and Jena and started following
G.W.F. Hegel, the German philosopher whom at that time was seeking a dialectical system of
philosophy. In 1842, He became editor of a liberal democratic newspaper in Cologne called the
Rheinische Zeitung. He had worked with the newspaper until 1843 when the Prussian authorities shut
it down for becoming outlandish in its reports. The same year after the paper was shut down, he went
to Paris to co edit a new political review. Marx adopted an extreme form of socialism which called for
a revolution by the working class that would tear down the capitalist world. This ideology will be
known as communism. In Paris, he befriended Friedrich Engels, a fellow Prussian who shared his
views and was to become a lifelong collaborator. In 1845, due to his writings and ideas, Marx was
removed from France and settled in Brussels. There, Marx renounced his Prussian nationality and

Pros And Cons Of African Americans
After the abolishment of Slavery by President Lincoln, previous slaves were now able to live their
lives as free people but were still constantly faced with difficulties. The main cause of those
difficulties were their white neighbors. While African American were making their ways by earning
leadership roles in their communities, they were constantly persecuted, lynched and senselessly killed
by white American. White fear had become a pretense to retain their dominance over blacks and
lynching and other violence was the most satisfying way of maintaining control . Not only were they
continuously brought down by the physical abuse of the whites, they were also unfairly abused by
their current court system run the whites. After years of repetitive ... Show more content on

Though the boys were physically coerced to get a confession out of the them, all that mattered was
they admitted to a crime they had not committed. After accusations of this rape made its way
throughout the neighborhood, a group of white men started a mob and headed to the local jail to lynch
the three young men who were being held. Upon arrival to the jail, they found a sheriff called Willis
McCall. Mr. McCall was able to turn away the first wave of the mob but a second mob came around
later on. This mob was controlled by the notorious Ku Klux Klan who were adamant on refusing to
have the African American men go to trial and would not permit the white people of their country to
become a mongrel race . Mr. McCall was not sure how to turn away the clan. After a period of unrest
caused by the Klan, a group of wealthy citizens decided to visit McCall and question on what was his
course of action to turn the Klan away. Amongst this group of wealthy leaders was a man named
Norton Wilkins. Contrary to what one with morals might be thinking, Mr. Wilkins was not trying to
turn away these mobs for the good of jailed men, he had ulterior motives. The ongoing riot of the Klan
s mob would lead a mass exodus of black workers, which would have a disastrous negative impact on
production, profits and employees at his company . Another man present was former Senator L. Day

Bless me, Ultima draft #1
Bless me, Ultima is a novel by Rudolfo Anaya that takes place in a poor farming community in
Guadalupe, New Mexico. Antonio, the main character in the book, at such a young age he is witness
to death, violence and evil. He is forced to make decisions that will affect his future. As this takes
place Antonio is surrounded by various conflicts that in a way help him make his decisions. These
conflicts; Good versus Evil, Mother versus Father and various religious conflicts are also the main
themes in the novel.
Throughout the novel the theme Good versus Evil is portrayed by two characters, Ultima and Tenorio.
Ultima, a healer, being essentially good and Tenorio ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before curing Lucas, Ultima asked his brother if he would accept the responsibility of disturbing fate
and he accepted. These kinds of events continue to happen all throughout the story. Tenorio tries to kill
Ultima because according to him, she is responsible for his daughter s deaths. Towards the end of the
story he finds out that Ultima s owl is actually her spirit so he goes after the owl. Antonio tries to warn
Ultima but is not able to do anything about it. Ultima s owl is shot, causing Ultima s death and so is
Tenorio as he tries to shoot Antonio. Before Ultima s dies, she speaks to Tony
My work was to do good, she continued, I was to heal the sick and show them the path of goodness.
But I was not to interfere with the destiny of any man. Those who wallow in evil and brujeria cannot
understand this. They create a disharmony that in the end reaches out and destroys life with the
passing away of Tenorio and myself the meddling will be done with, harmony will be reconstituted.
That is good. Bear him no ill will I accept my death because I accepted to work for life
With these last words and events the conflicts and problems come to an end and a resolution. Another
theme that deals with Antonio more directly is the conflict between both sides of his family, his
mother and his father s. Antonio s mother is a Luna, her people are more devoted to the campos, the
earth, the moon and they are calm and peaceful, while his father

Atalanta s Heroic Characteristics
A hero and a friend are very similar and both will support you. Friends are one who cares and thinks
about you. A hero also someone who cares about others and someone who thinks about those they
serve. A hero is not based on raw power or their Intelligence, but rather on the qualities they possess.
The actual definition of a hero is a person who, in the opinion of others, has heroic qualities or has
performed a heroic act and is regarded as a model or ideal. A hero is someone like Atalanta was a true
hero who saved the lives of others and helped the common cause of mankind by their example. She
helped support a new way of life for humans, she saved the life of many others from killing the wild
boar, and still gave everyone a chance even when she did not want to. As for Atlanta s beginning she
was born from who we know not,but then she was abandoned for being a girl instead of a boy.
Atalanta then was raised by animals and then taken in by hunters and taught how to hunt. Atalanta
could out hunt any man and could practically best any human or nonhuman alive. One instance
Atalanta was alone and two Centaurs saw her and pursued her, but unlike any other women she stood
her ground and killed the two monsters without any struggle. At that time many humans were slaves
and women did absolutely nothing. The entire system was racist and sexist. Atalanta was the myth that
changed or was an example for change. Atalanta could outrun any male and she could best him in
anything whether it

Romeo And Juliet Stupidity
There is a fine line between bravery and stupidity. To be brave is a state of emotion that enables one to
face danger or pain without fear. Where as, stupidity is mistake lacking intellectual ability. One can
argue that any courageous act is just running from your problems with heroic remembrance. These
two personality traits are considered antonyms, but astoundingly similar. Through Shakespeare s great
tragedy, Romeo and Juliet, Juliet changes dramatically. Juliet has become more independent shown in
her actions by drinking the potion. In act two Juliet secretly marries Romeo without her parents
consent. This defiant act marks the first of many that ultimately lead to her death. Juliet stips taking

(Page 887; lines 161 169) Up until this point Capulet is believed to be a kind, well tempered man, but
in this scene his rage was unlocked. Juliet was brave to put her trust in Friar Lawrence and his solution
to her problems. Friar Lawrence had good reason to want Juliet dead. If Romeo is exiled to Mantua,
Juliet is dead and the nurse will keep quiet for fear of her own welfare; none is left to incarcerate Friar
Lawrence for marrying the young couple. Friar Lawrence has never exhibited malicious behavior of
any sort, therefore, Juliet has no reason to doubt his intent. Juliet also has to consider the possibility

Best Week Research Paper
The BEST week is the first week of the first year in dcu, It is very an important week to recognize the
DCU program, to meet our lecturer and our classmate too. In this reflection I will write about the most
important things I have learned and also the things I enjoyed it most in the best week, which is the
information and the knowledge I received, the challenges, the teamwork, and the prizes. However, I
was very excited and nervous at the same time before I know about the best week, then after attending
the whole week it is really helping me a lot to feel more comfortable, relaxed and even more exited!
Information and knowledge:
During the week we had so much information and knowledge about DCU in general and financial in

Actually the teamwork is the most area I would like to improve in myself, because I did not have used
to work with a group and I think that I produce better and even faster when I work by my own that
might be because of my last experience in teamwork, also maybe because of my shy personality. For
example, sometimes I get worried to propose a new idea to someone and he doesn t like it. However to
be honest in my BEST week experiences of the teamwork was very good and unexpected. They were
all collaborators except one person. After all I believe that I will deal with all the different kinds of
personalities in my career, so I must get to use to it. We worked on some activities that could improve
our teamwork. For example, we worked in a poster of team contracts which involve the team rules and
the consequences if these rules are broken. In our team contracts we wrote the points that we think it is
the most important, for instance: the team member must respect each other ideas and opinions.
Everyone should improve their own skills. And one of the most important thing that I learned was if
each member of the team used his skills the team will get a very good results at the end so I must not
get shy to produce my thought and ideas. Another thing effect me in a positive way after working in a
teamwork is talking better in presentations. For example, in the management challenge we have been

Analysis Of Adp As A System For Federal Mogul
Analysis of ADP as a HRIS System for Federal Mogul
Now that we have taken a look at the minimum required hardware and software of the ADP system,
let s examine ADP as a Human Resource Information System, or HRIS for short. A great HRIS system
provides critical data about the human resource function of the business as well as helping to create a
follow through on the business s mission and goals. HRIS systems help to reduce organizational costs
by contributing to the efficiency of the human resource management function. HRIS systems help to
automate critical human resource management functions (Chauhan, Sharma, Tyagi, 2011, p. 58).
HRIS systems contain information on employees, job and work conditions, positions, payroll and
benefits, and HR events such as recruitment, training, development, performance appraisals, and
terminations (Chauhan, Sharma, Tyagi, 2011, p. 59). Although ADP offers all of these features,
Federal Mogul utilizes ADP specifically for the payroll and benefits function.
APD s payroll system is a very complete system that works in conjunction with Federal Mogul s
timekeeping systems. Many Federal Mogul facilities utilize Kronos for attendance and timekeeping,
including the Sparta, MI location where I work. In order for Kronos and ADP to work together, there
is a custom interface as mentioned earlier that extracts the data from Kronos, and then it is converted
into an EPIP file which can ultimately be loaded into ADP to create the payroll record for each

Tlon, Uqbar, Orbis TertiusBy Jorge Luis Borges
Ana Bahena English 102D Izenberg November 2, 2017 Tlon, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius Jorge Luis Borges
is widely known for his bizarre short stories that question all aspects of life and our world. Tlon,
Uqbar, Orbis Tertius is no different putting into question everything we believe to be true. Tlon,
Uqbar, Orbis Tertius is a narrative account of an individual who has discovered the fictional land of
Uqbar in one of the version of an encyclopedia. Throughout the story, the man keeps investigating
more on this place and finds that its importance comes from Tlon, one of the subdivisions of Uqbar,
and its literature. Tlon is an ideal world, which the reader later finds out, created by a secret society,
Orbis Tertius and has been equipped with its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No matter how many variations of Uqbar (Ukbar, Ucbar, Ookbar, Oukbahr) he searches for, he cannot
seem to find this place. In order to appease the narrator, Casares tells him that [Uqbar] was a region in
Iraq or Asia Minor (Borges 68). Casares uses words and places that the narrator knows and connects
with so that the narrator can place this fictional world within the real world. Although completely
doubtful of his friend, the narrator consults the atlases of Justus Perthes just to make sure that Uqbar is
not real, as he believes it to be. This part in the short story, although minute, is crucial because it
causes tension between that the narrator believes to be real and that which he doubts to be real. In this
same manner, the text itself is causing tension between what the reader knows to be real and what is
fiction. The reader assumes that what he/she is reading is fiction, but this comes in conflict with the
constant use of real works and people such as the Encyclopedia Britannica, the N.R.F, Bioy Casares,
Justus Perthes, and many others. The specificity of terms and names of real authors and theorists that
are fused into the work bring an apparent legitimacy to what is read. Yet, as the reader continues, the
story becomes seemingly false. The reader s experience is mirrored in the text as the narrator goes
through a similar development of realization regarding the encyclopedia entry on Uqbar. As

The question of sexual identity is asked to many professional athletes when they are first diagnosed
with HIV or tested positive for the AIDS virus. Magic Johnson is a five time championship winner
with the Los Angeles Lakers, awarded MVP three times, and played amongst the first nine Olympic
All Star teams (Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame). Despite these great achievements in his
life, his contact with the HIV virus caused him to face much discrimination. Although Johnson s
source of the virus has been unknown, many people have misconceptions of AIDS as an exclusively

While Magic continues to be healthy, public sentiment will be overwhelmingly on his side, but some
AIDS activists worry that when he gets sicker, that support may fade (Stewart). In Kantrowitz s article
Larry Kramer states, When his body becomes skin and bones and pus and runny sores, there won t be
so many people running to embrace him . Due to his good health and admitting to the disease early,
this prevented him from the harsh discrimination others have faced. Racism also may be a factor when
the disease progresses for Johnson. Black men are faced with discrimination everyday and looked
upon as criminals and drug addicts (Kantrowitz). Once you add the stigma of AIDS a black man with
AIDS is treated like garbage quot; (Kantrowitz). As Johnson s disease progresses one can expect the
same alienation and cruel discrimination as other less famous people.
A similar event that has recently taken place is the accusation of homosexuality towards Mike Piazza
for the New York Mets. Mike Piazza is not HIV positive nor does he have AIDS, but when a New
York Post s gossip columns ran an item in late May suggesting that a major league baseball player
whom it did not name is ready to come out all eyes turned to Piazza (Meers). Suspicion of his
sexuality began when he once stated, In this day and age, [sexual orientation is] irrelevant, I don t

An Evaluation Of A Nursing Nurse At A Surgical Ward
DESCRIPTION
During the first week of our new nurses in a surgical ward, I was supervising one of the
supernumerary nurses. We were looking after for a thirty nine year old woman, Ms LC, who had
undergone a laparoscopy peritonectomy. We had to start her on a negative pressure wound therapy
dressing or NPWT. The wound clinical nurse consultant and the doctors during their ward round
suggested it, since this would allow the fast healing of her wound.
I showed the supernumerary nurse the proper way of preparing for an NPWT using a non touch sterile
technique, and slowly cleaned the surrounding skin prior to the application of the pressure dressing.
Since, it was the first time of the mentee to perform a pressure dressing. I have provided my mentee
the principles of wound management, so that it will reinforce the knowledge of the supervised nurse
and skills, on the management of an NPWT wound. I also provided the mentee the protocols and
wound management chart to take note of the type of solutions to be used in managing a surgical
wound.
FEELINGS
During the procedure it gave me an opportunity to share my knowledge about the proper management
of a surgical wound. I felt relieved knowing that I was able to develop the skills of my mentee in the
aspect of wound care and knowing that the patient was also involved in the process of the care.

the collective. (Merrill 293). The article mentions the Moscow and Jerusalem narratives and how they

highlighting the tensions between them. (Merrill 309). Merrill mentions Anna Krylova suggestion of
understanding the Soviet citizen in the 1930 s as unsettled and traumatic (Merrill 309). The life under
Stalin was horrible and Bulgakov built this fragmentation into his novel, of torture but used Woland
and his black magic to create a tension. Merrill concludes her article with that under Stalin people
were not passive recipients of propaganda, but actively used ideological discourse to create a

subjectivity could be manipulated to create highly successful work of art and a sophisticated act of

Cultural Proficiency Continuum In White Teacher, By Vivian...
Being culturally proficient means that you are able to effectively respond to issues that arise from
diversity in many cultural settings (Lindsey, Robins, Terrell, 2009). A person s level of cultural can be
described using the Cultural Proficiency Continuum (Lindsey et al, 2009). In the book White Teacher,
the author Vivian Gussin Paley, explores her experiences as a teacher and how these experiences
helped her gain cultural proficiency and move upwards on the cultural proficiency continuum.
At the beginning of the book, Paley shares experiences that I believe indicate she was on the lower
end of the cultural continuum. Most often I notice her exhibiting cultural blindness and sometimes
cultural incapacity. For example, on page 8, Paley ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of Paley operating at the higher end of the cultural proficiency continuum takes place on
pages 106 107 in White Teacher. Rena is a student that shares positive views of black people and
mostly negative views of white people. One negative view of white people that Rena held was that
white people tell lies (Paley, 2000, p. 104). Conversely, a positive view of black people that this
student shared was black people are the prettiest (Paley, 2000, p. 106). At the beginning of the book,
when Paley was mostly on the lower end of the continuum, I don t think Paley would have addressed
these comments. Or, she would have been too afraid to even bring up the topic.
However, by the time Rena is in her class she is able to address this student s views. On page 107,
Paley is able to have a conversation with Rena about how they see things differently and even asks her
which school she liked better, the black school or the integrated school. I think this encounter
demonstrates cultural precontence. Cultural precontence is being displayed because Paley is
addressing the cultural differences between this student and others in the class (Lindsey et al.,

I am going to discuss the central and PICC line insertion. I will to base about the safety of the
insertion process. The benefits that come along with choosing to insert a PICC line verse a peripheral

risks
This paper is going to cover peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) and central lines. I am going
to talk about what a PICC line is, how a PICC line is inserted, what the benefits of using a PICC line
are, the risks that come alone with the insertion process, and treatments offered when using this
method. There are many other ways to give treatments besides PICC line. A peripherally inserted
central catheter or PICC line is a thin soft flexible tube (Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC).
(2015). It is usually inserted in the upper arm just above the elbow in a main vein that will lead to the
heart where the blood flows more rapidly. Midlines are inserted usually into the vein in the arm.
Sometimes you will need to use a leg vein when caring for infants. They last longer than a regular IV,
but not as long as a PICC line. It can usually be used for 2 4 weeks (Peripherally Inserted Central
Catheter (PICC). (2015). The central venous catheter is placed into a large vein leading into the heart
and comes out through a small opening in the chest area (Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter

Good and Evil in Good Country People Essay
Good and Evil in Good Country People
In Good Country People by Flannery O Connor, the masked truth is reflected unequivocally through
the reality in the story, its equal counterpart. For every good or evil thing, there is an antagonist or
opposing force. Each character has a duplicate personality mirrored in someone else in the story.
In the story, the names and personalities of the characters clash. The name is the mask covering the
personality, which is representative of the reality aspect of each character. When Mrs. Hopewell
named her daughter Joy, she was hoping for all the joy that comes with raising a child and watching
the child develop a life of its own. What Mrs. Hopewell received was a disabled daughter who ...

qualifications to be a good country person. As she spends more time with Manley, and the story

Ozone Depletion
In this world of rapid change, it s extremely difficult for a company to stay ahead of the game even
using all the resources available to them. So, it s difficult to imagine the problems they would run into
when a group of environmentalists decide to boycott a substance which is the foundation of their

in order to prevent further damage.
The chemicals in question are numerous, but the two gaining the most attention are chloroflurocarbons

The New York City s Puerto Rican Community
On 7 June 1969, hundreds of Puerto Ricans gathered in Spanish Harlem, New York City to protest the
arrest of Juan Fi Ortiz for a series of falsified crimes.[2] As a crowd gathered outside the People s
Church in El Barrio, Felipe Luciano addressed those assembled asserting that, We will not allow the
brutalization of our community to go on without a response. For every Puerto Rican that is brutalized,
there will be retaliation. [3]Luciano s statements were not ignored, and as the crowd filtered into the
streets their shouts of Despierta, Boricua. Defiende lo tuyo filled the air.
The events of 7 June 1969 were but one of many moments in the history of New York City s Puerto
Rican community that gave rise to and lent support for the Young Lords Party.[4] Indeed over the
course of the next five years this ethnic group of radical intellectuals would help bring attention to the
plight of the Puerto Rican community in New York City. This essay explores the history of the late
twentieth century Puerto Rican migrants in New York City through an examination of the Young
Lords Party (1969 to 1974). In doing so, it examines several significant topics, including the growth of
the Puerto Rican population in New York City; the unique challenges this ethnic group faced, and the
origins, growth and decline of the Young Lords Party.

R H Coase s Theory of Economic as Applied to Apple
R. H. Coase s Theory of Economic as Applied to Apple Apple is known as one of the best companies
in the world. It is not surprising that Forbes has named the firm the most admired company in the
world for four straight years. This is admiration both from the business world and from consumers
who buy the amazing products Apple has developed. The business itself has been a model of
efficiency and innovation, taking some of the most innovative electronic products ever to market and
forcing the rest of the electronics manufacturing world to follows its lead. It is also a company that
went from almost closing its doors to the level it now maintains in just a few short years. Consumers
are clamoring for new and better products and Apple executives are always happy to oblige. With is
stable of i products, Apple has become one of the best known and most beloved companies around the
world, and there seems to be no end to the types of products that the company can design and the
further accolades the company can accumulate. However, the business model that Apple operates
under needs to be investigated. The company has not received the same stellar regard from
competitors, and environmental activists also have some issues with the way the company operates. To
properly assess the company, this paper will utilize R. H. Coase s theory of economics. The
examination will look specifically at the company s production, organization and innovation through
the lens of Coase s theory. The

Kodak vs. Fujifilm
Kodak and Fujifilm What causes a company to declare bankruptcy? This is what most business
entrepreneurs fear the most something they work so hard for to fail. There are ways to mitigate the
risk of starting a business and ways to save one that is failing. Eastman Kodak Company is a large
multinational company that has recently filed for bankruptcy. Exploring what has gone wrong with
their business plan and how their competitor Fuji Films has gotten that equation right can help larger
corporations like them in the future. We can evaluate their performance by looking at all aspects of

Fujifilm began investing millions into developing digital cameras, Kodak decided to upgrade the
35mm film to a proprietary Advanced Photo System. Kodak had invented digital cameras in the 1970
s however they resisted introducing it to the market because they believed it would kill their film
sales. When the market changed to digital cameras and photo printers Kodak then found that they had
gotten left in the dust by Fujifilm and other companies (Gordon, 2013). Fujifilm s management on the
other hand was quick to adapt to the changing market conditions. By creating a plan that allowed them
to continue what they were doing in the film camera industry for as long as possible, and to start
moving over to the digital camera industry to keep forward and looking outside of their normal
consumer market for other ways to stay in the eyes of the consumers. One of the most important
moves that Fujifilm made was staying with what they already knew they were good at and began
learning how to adapt it to other markets arenas. Fujifilm unlike Kodak transformed from a fairly
narrow photographic supplier into a diversified company with significant health care and electronics
operations. They looked into more than just simply moving to digital photography from analog. They
tapped into its chemical expertise for more uses, such as drugs and liquid crystal display panels. These
panels were used for televisions, computers, smartphones and other devices that are the future of

Pathology and Epidemiology of Anterior Poliomyelitis Essay
Anterior Poliomyelitis is a highly infectious disease that attacks the anterior horn of the spinal cord.
Poliomyelitis translates to grey spinal matter inflammation. Polio is caused by a picorna virus that
enters the body through mucus membranes and then multiplies in the throat and being an acidophile,
can survive well in the stomach and small intestine. When viremia occurs and persists, the virus will
penetrate the capillary wall. Once this happens, it enters the central nervous system and begins
attacking motor neurons. Polio is tissue specific and will only multiply and attack neurons. this strict
neuronotropism and definite tissue specificity of poliomyelitis virus is reflected not only in its limited
adult host range but aso in its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is when viremia will occur and the virus will begin to spread. If it does not reach the central
nervous system then the patient will only have abortive poliomyelitis. They will have some flu like
symptoms and experience a full recovery. As the virus goes further, one may become stricken with
aseptic meningitis. This polio is considered non paralytic, has the same symptoms as abortive
poliomyelitis, and irritates the meninges. This causes back and neck pain and stiffness but has a full
recovery. The worst case scenario is paralytic poliomyelitis. This occurs when the virus begins
replicating in the brain stem and anterior horn causing cell destruction and neurological damage in the
form of paralysis. This is very rare and occurs in less than 2% of infections. While paralysis of the
legs is most common, it can affect the arms, or worse, spread to the trunk. When the legs are affected,
the patient is fitted with braces to help with recovery (Figure 1) If it continues and reaches bulbar
polio, the brain stem becomes paralyzed and generally the patient will die from asphyxiation. (Flynn)
Almost 15 years later the iron lung was invented to help people at this stage survive, but currently,
there was nothing they could do.
One of the worst polio epidemics to hit the United States was in 1916 in the heart of New York City. It
infected 9,000 just in the city and kept spreading throughout the states to infect over 27,000. It left

I think that the guilt in Ender s Game very much relates to the guilt that occurs in our world today.
Guilt overthrows the weak hearted as guilt changes people s perspective of the world as they take
ownership on what they can t change. I personally thing negative emotions like loneliness, envy and
guilt have an important role to play in a happy life as they are signs that somethings needs a change.
Ender regretted his action as he felt he was the one to blame. Ender definitely felt regretful when he
killed the Bugger specimen. We can see this when Ender decides to take the egg and travel the
universe to find the Bugger s a new home. If you try and lose then it isn t your fault. But if you don t
try and we lose it is you fault.

John Locke s Theory of Knowledge Essay
John Locke (1632 1704) was the first of the classical British empiricists. (Empiricists believed that all
knowledge derives from experience. These philosophers were hostile to rationalistic metaphysics,
particularly to its unbridled use of speculation, its grandiose claims, and its epistemology grounded in
innate ideas) If Locke could account of all human knowledge without making reference to innate
ideas, then his theory would be simpler, hence better, than that of Descartes. He wrote, Let us then
suppose the mind to be, as we say, white paper, void of all characters, without any ideas: How comes
it to be furnished? To his I answer, in one word, from EXPERIENCE. (Donald Palmer, p.165)

Secondary qualities are characteristic that are often attribute to external objects, which exist only in
the mind, yet are caused by real features of external objects. Secondary qualities are colors, sounds,
and tastes.) This view of the mind has come to be known as REPRESENTATIVE REALISM. This
mean the mind represents the external world but it does not duplicate it. The mind is something like a
photograph in that there are feature of a photo that very accurately represent the world, such as a good
picture of three people and that each of them has two eyes, one nose, and one mouth, and there are
features of the photograph that belong exclusively to the photo (its glossiness, its two dimensionality,
the white border around its content). A real quality must be a quality of a real thing and real things are
substances. Once again, given anything in the world, it is either a substance or a characteristic of a
substance.)
So, having claimed that he could account for all knowledge purely in terms of experience and having
arrived at the concept that had dominated philosophy for the last several generations, Locke
proclaimed it a mystery and even joked about it. (LOOKING AT PHILOSOPHY pg.165 174).

I am Kade of Lindsey and, though I am a peaceful man not often prone to violence, I must go to war

How Taxpayers Are The Funders For Public Facilities Such...
Taxpayers are the funders for public facilities such as corrections. Jail and prisons are funded through
tax dollars and therefore have interest when dealing with these programs. Research done by New
Mexico Corrections Department found that Ninety five percent of offenders incarcerated would be
released back into the community. A more staggering statistic is that fifty percent of the offenders will
return to prion within five years (NMlegis). This display a breakdown through our criminal system
where half of those incarcerated will return. It is the job of the facility not to solely punish but teach
the inmates how to learn acceptably in society. The audience for this article is directed towards the
legislative branch and the cost of inmates returning back to prison or jail. One of the ways that is truly
upsetting to me is the talk of the economical burden these inmates place on the taxpayers. If the
statement read, reducing recidivism, even by just ten percent, can save thousands of families it would
be perfect. Instead to get the point to those who have the ability to make changes it reads, Reducing
recidivism, even just by ten percent, can save millions (NMlegis). The article isn t talking about
millions of families or broken homes it is talking about millions of dollars. The approach that we have
in our country is based off the philosophy that they are making investments which will yield the best
and most cost effective results to support the state s performance based

On June 29, 1956, the Federal Aid Highway Act was passed allowing for the construction of the
Interstate Highway System. These limited access highways would open the door for economic
development across the country with their higher speeds and consistent route across state lines. In
1960, after the development of the interstates had yielded early promising economic results, a group of
governors in Appalachia met with Presidential Candidate John F. Kennedy to discuss the needs of their
impoverished people. The poverty of the Appalachian region was a dark spot on a nation that was

The first efforts to create a national highway network was started by the American Association of State
Highway Officials in 1914, founded by Logan Waller Page, with public support of The Good Roads
Movement, led by John Hollis Bankhead. Along with avid motorist President Woodrow Wilson, the
men worked to establish state sponsored highway agencies to improve the transportation network
across the country to keep pace with the growing popularity of the automobile. With the help of these
men and their enthusiasm for well developed highways in America, the Federal Aid Road Act of 1916
(FARA 1916) was passed on July 11 providing the first federal funds towards highway construction
projects. The stated aim of the FARA 1916 was the improvement of postal roads to appeal to the rural
population, who had initially seen this as a project with the wealthy urbanites in mind. In the final
version of the approved bill, there were also provisions added to exclude the use of this federal
funding within city limits. This was done to ensure the funding would go towards improving access to
the most isolated locations with agriculture industries in mind. Additionally, there was heavy federal
oversight of the state projects utilizing these funds. All highway improvements were subject to final
approval by the Secretary of Agriculture. While these provisions would favor

The Play Developed By The Molasses Flood
The indie game scene has blossomed in recent years as the home console market has welcomed small
developers with open arms to self publish their titles and reach a gaming audience and community
once inaccessible to them. Indie games and their developers often take risks with game design, and
express their ideas in fresh and creative ways. The Flame in the Flood, an indie title developed by The
Molasses Flood, is one of these titles as it places the player in the role of a young woman who is
accompanied by her dog as they travel down a treacherous river and scavenge for food and other
resources.
The world in which the game takes place has become flooded, and the player must navigate their way
down river to find shelter, resources, and valuables to stay alive. One could interpret the flame in the
title as a symbol of desire and willpower, meanwhile the flood is the constant struggle and battle that
one must face. The Flame in the Flood will not appeal to everyone as the game s atmosphere and
setting is of the gloomy and isolated variety, but those interested in the survival genre will find a
challenging game that has charm buried underneath its tough exterior.
If you are in need of a lengthy tutorial or gradual means of progress, you won t find that in The Flame
in the Flood. The game starts off by placing you in a dire situation as you scavenge for resources in
the opening area, and are then immediately pushed on your makeshift boat so that you move towards
other areas to

Well, the sitting on 4 acres the hospital encompasses Ronald Regan UCLA Medical center, Stewart

key features I found extremely helpful is their organization. Every floor of Ronald Reagan UCLA
Medical Center is devoted to a specific specialty and equipped with all of the essential support
equipment and supplies. Every floor has its own satellite pharmacy, dialysis storage, respiratory
therapy workrooms, and resident doctor sleep rooms. Additionally; each patient room has the ability to

  • 2. Born Poor And Smart By Angela Locke In chapter sixteen, Social Class and Inequality the essays show different cases in which being rich, poor, smart or middle class can affect a person. In the writings of Angela Locke in Born Poor and Smart (338 339) Angela summarizes her life of what it was like growing up with a poor, yet smart mother. However, in When Shelter Feels like a Prison (374 376) Charmion Browne writes about being poor, and living in homeless shelters. Somethings in life, are no more than learning experiences, and only you can change it. First off, lets discuss the essay of Angela Locke. Angela grew up in a household that was poor. Her mother worked at the E Z Bargain Center. When not working there she spent her time picking up after her four kids, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Being left feeling like she had no place and that she belonged nowhere. Something that Angela battles with until the present time is feeling the privelage that can distinguish her from the rich and the poor. Wealthy people never question their worth. They don t seem like they need to since they were brought up with a golden spoon in their mouth, they feel as if they are better than people. However, in my opinion someone like Angela Locke is the one that shouldn t question her worth. She is the one who rose up against the odds and made something of herself and wasn t handed everything in life. Class relations isn t only about having a monetary value. It also can be about having a relationship to success. Angela says that My definition of success has something to do with money, but everything to do with class. (339) To break that statement down, she doesn t feel that she needs to only be rich, but have more class and social standing. However I don t think that someone should compare themselves to another person. Just because one person is more successful than another, it doesn t always mean they earned it like the one that worked their way up from nothing. The person that works their way up has way more class in my opinion because they know what it s like to be at the bottom, and the ones that come from wealth never have known that feeling. In a different, yet similar perspective Charmion Browne discusses what it is like growing up in homeless ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Communist Manifesto And Das Kapital Karl Marx A German philosopher, economist, journalist and revolutionary scientist, Marx was best known for his work in economics. He laid the foundations for today s theories of labor and capital. The Communist Manifesto and Das Kapital were among the most famous of his published works. Born to a middle class family in Trier, Prussia in 1818, his parents were Jewish, but converted to Christianity in 1816 due to strict anti Jewish laws. He was baptized as a Christian at the age of six but later on became an atheist (Staff, 2009). He received his education in universities of Berlin and Jena and started following G.W.F. Hegel, the German philosopher whom at that time was seeking a dialectical system of philosophy. In 1842, He became editor of a liberal democratic newspaper in Cologne called the Rheinische Zeitung. He had worked with the newspaper until 1843 when the Prussian authorities shut it down for becoming outlandish in its reports. The same year after the paper was shut down, he went to Paris to co edit a new political review. Marx adopted an extreme form of socialism which called for a revolution by the working class that would tear down the capitalist world. This ideology will be known as communism. In Paris, he befriended Friedrich Engels, a fellow Prussian who shared his views and was to become a lifelong collaborator. In 1845, due to his writings and ideas, Marx was removed from France and settled in Brussels. There, Marx renounced his Prussian nationality and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Pros And Cons Of African Americans After the abolishment of Slavery by President Lincoln, previous slaves were now able to live their lives as free people but were still constantly faced with difficulties. The main cause of those difficulties were their white neighbors. While African American were making their ways by earning leadership roles in their communities, they were constantly persecuted, lynched and senselessly killed by white American. White fear had become a pretense to retain their dominance over blacks and lynching and other violence was the most satisfying way of maintaining control . Not only were they continuously brought down by the physical abuse of the whites, they were also unfairly abused by their current court system run the whites. After years of repetitive ... After accusations of this rape made its way throughout the neighborhood, a group of white men started a mob and headed to the local jail to lynch the three young men who were being held. Upon arrival to the jail, they found a sheriff called Willis McCall. Mr. McCall was able to turn away the first wave of the mob but a second mob came around later on. This mob was controlled by the notorious Ku Klux Klan who were adamant on refusing to have the African American men go to trial and would not permit the white people of their country to become a mongrel race . Mr. McCall was not sure how to turn away the clan. After a period of unrest caused by the Klan, a group of wealthy citizens decided to visit McCall and question on what was his course of action to turn the Klan away. Amongst this group of wealthy leaders was a man named Norton Wilkins. Contrary to what one with morals might be thinking, Mr. Wilkins was not trying to turn away these mobs for the good of jailed men, he had ulterior motives. The ongoing riot of the Klan s mob would lead a mass exodus of black workers, which would have a disastrous negative impact on production, profits and employees at his company . A hero also someone who cares about others and someone who thinks about those they serve. A hero is not based on raw power or their Intelligence, but rather on the qualities they possess. The actual definition of a hero is a person who, in the opinion of others, has heroic qualities or has performed a heroic act and is regarded as a model or ideal. A hero is someone like Atalanta was a true hero who saved the lives of others and helped the common cause of mankind by their example. She helped support a new way of life for humans, she saved the life of many others from killing the wild boar, and still gave everyone a chance even when she did not want to. Atalanta then was raised by animals and then taken in by hunters and taught how to hunt. Atalanta could out hunt any man and could practically best any human or nonhuman alive. One instance Atalanta was alone and two Centaurs saw her and pursued her, but unlike any other women she stood her ground and killed the two monsters without any struggle. We worked on some activities that could improve our teamwork. For example, we worked in a poster of team contracts which involve the team rules and the consequences if these rules are broken. In our team contracts we wrote the points that we think it is the most important, for instance: the team member must respect each other ideas and opinions. Everyone should improve their own skills. • 9. Analysis Of Adp As A System For Federal Mogul Analysis of ADP as a HRIS System for Federal Mogul Now that we have taken a look at the minimum required hardware and software of the ADP system, let s examine ADP as a Human Resource Information System, or HRIS for short. A great HRIS system provides critical data about the human resource function of the business as well as helping to create a follow through on the business s mission and goals. HRIS systems help to reduce organizational costs by contributing to the efficiency of the human resource management function. HRIS systems help to automate critical human resource management functions (Chauhan, Sharma, Tyagi, 2011, p. 58). HRIS systems contain information on employees, job and work conditions, positions, payroll and benefits, and HR events such as recruitment, training, development, performance appraisals, and terminations (Chauhan, Sharma, Tyagi, 2011, p. 59). Although ADP offers all of these features, Federal Mogul utilizes ADP specifically for the payroll and benefits function. APD s payroll system is a very complete system that works in conjunction with Federal Mogul s timekeeping systems. Many Federal Mogul facilities utilize Kronos for attendance and timekeeping, including the Sparta, MI location where I work. In order for Kronos and ADP to work together, there is a custom interface as mentioned earlier that extracts the data from Kronos, and then it is converted into an EPIP file which can ultimately be loaded into ADP to create the payroll record for each ... • 10. Tlon, Uqbar, Orbis TertiusBy Jorge Luis Borges Ana Bahena English 102D Izenberg November 2, 2017 Tlon, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius Jorge Luis Borges is widely known for his bizarre short stories that question all aspects of life and our world. Tlon, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius is no different putting into question everything we believe to be true. Tlon, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius is a narrative account of an individual who has discovered the fictional land of Uqbar in one of the version of an encyclopedia. Throughout the story, the man keeps investigating more on this place and finds that its importance comes from Tlon, one of the subdivisions of Uqbar, and its literature. No matter how many variations of Uqbar (Ukbar, Ucbar, Ookbar, Oukbahr) he searches for, he cannot seem to find this place. In order to appease the narrator, Casares tells him that [Uqbar] was a region in Iraq or Asia Minor (Borges 68). Casares uses words and places that the narrator knows and connects with so that the narrator can place this fictional world within the real world. Although completely doubtful of his friend, the narrator consults the atlases of Justus Perthes just to make sure that Uqbar is not real, as he believes it to be. This part in the short story, although minute, is crucial because it causes tension between that the narrator believes to be real and that which he doubts to be real. In this same manner, the text itself is causing tension between what the reader knows to be real and what is fiction. The reader assumes that what he/she is reading is fiction, but this comes in conflict with the constant use of real works and people such as the Encyclopedia Britannica, the N.R.F, Bioy Casares, Justus Perthes, and many others. The specificity of terms and names of real authors and theorists that are fused into the work bring an apparent legitimacy to what is read. Yet, as the reader continues, the story becomes seemingly false. The reader s experience is mirrored in the text as the narrator goes through a similar development of realization regarding the encyclopedia entry on Uqbar. As ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Magic Johnson is a five time championship winner with the Los Angeles Lakers, awarded MVP three times, and played amongst the first nine Olympic All Star teams (Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame). Despite these great achievements in his life, his contact with the HIV virus caused him to face much discrimination. Due to his good health and admitting to the disease early, this prevented him from the harsh discrimination others have faced. Racism also may be a factor when the disease progresses for Johnson. Black men are faced with discrimination everyday and looked upon as criminals and drug addicts (Kantrowitz). Once you add the stigma of AIDS a black man with AIDS is treated like garbage quot; (Kantrowitz). Mike Piazza is not HIV positive nor does he have AIDS, but when a New York Post s gossip columns ran an item in late May suggesting that a major league baseball player whom it did not name is ready to come out all eyes turned to Piazza (Meers). We were looking after for a thirty nine year old woman, Ms LC, who had undergone a laparoscopy peritonectomy. We had to start her on a negative pressure wound therapy dressing or NPWT. The wound clinical nurse consultant and the doctors during their ward round suggested it, since this would allow the fast healing of her wound. I showed the supernumerary nurse the proper way of preparing for an NPWT using a non touch sterile technique, and slowly cleaned the surrounding skin prior to the application of the pressure dressing. • 15. Cultural Proficiency Continuum In White Teacher, By Vivian... Being culturally proficient means that you are able to effectively respond to issues that arise from diversity in many cultural settings (Lindsey, Robins, Terrell, 2009). A person s level of cultural can be described using the Cultural Proficiency Continuum (Lindsey et al, 2009). In the book White Teacher, the author Vivian Gussin Paley, explores her experiences as a teacher and how these experiences helped her gain cultural proficiency and move upwards on the cultural proficiency continuum. At the beginning of the book, Paley shares experiences that I believe indicate she was on the lower end of the cultural continuum. One negative view of white people that Rena held was that white people tell lies (Paley, 2000, p. 104). Conversely, a positive view of black people that this student shared was black people are the prettiest (Paley, 2000, p. 106). At the beginning of the book, when Paley was mostly on the lower end of the continuum, I don t think Paley would have addressed these comments. Or, she would have been too afraid to even bring up the topic. However, by the time Rena is in her class she is able to address this student s views. On page 107, Paley is able to have a conversation with Rena about how they see things differently and even asks her which school she liked better, the black school or the integrated school. The benefits that come along with choosing to insert a PICC line verse a peripheral IV. Like most topics, there will be risks involved, but with proper technique, you can prevent these risks This paper is going to cover peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) and central lines. I am going to talk about what a PICC line is, how a PICC line is inserted, what the benefits of using a PICC line are, the risks that come alone with the insertion process, and treatments offered when using this method. There are many other ways to give treatments besides PICC line. A peripherally inserted central catheter or PICC line is a thin soft flexible tube (Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC). (2015). It is usually inserted in the upper arm just above the elbow in a main vein that will lead to the heart where the blood flows more rapidly. Midlines are inserted usually into the vein in the arm. Sometimes you will need to use a leg vein when caring for infants. They last longer than a regular IV, but not as long as a PICC line. Good and Evil in Good Country People Essay Good and Evil in Good Country People In Good Country People by Flannery O Connor, the masked truth is reflected unequivocally through the reality in the story, its equal counterpart.
