Animal Ethics Peter Singer
nor does man any moral obligation to consider the interests of these animals. In light of this, one
must question Cohen s moral motivations. If it is scientifically proven that caring for animals in a
humane manner is absolutely vital to the survival of our own kind, what motives must a man who
denies the legitimacy of this necessity have for humanity? It is one thing to make the claim that in
certain circumstances, it is vital that humans use animals as a resource, but Cohen goes even
further to blatantly disregard animal s ability to suffer, and he denies all rights of animals due to
their lack of capacity for free moral judgment (Pojman and Vaughn 817). Cohen also proudly
proclaims himself a speciesist , meaning that he openly values... Show more content on

Singer notes how all discrimination is unseen at some point until the prejudice is forcefully pointed
out; that each person should be willing to exam their most basic, accepted values and criticize our
most fundamental values (Pojman and Vaughn 802). Taking this approach, Singer continues to
question the morality of killing and using animals as a commodity. Singer considers the ideas
discussed earlier, that this determination does not depend so much on the capabilities of animals,
but rather, their sentience. Singer states that the questions is not can they reason, nor can they talk,
but, can they suffer? This idea captures the vital element that Cohen chooses to overlook. The key
commonality between humans and animals is that we both can experience pain and suffering, and
both would rather avoid it. Cohen not only disregards the environmentally harmful effects of his
side of the argument, but he also considers power to be his prime reasoning for considering
animals to be inferior. He acknowledges animal s sentient ability, but due to their lack of what he
deems intelligent capability and moral choice, he sees this as something simply to be accepted as
part of the relationship between humans and

Mutual Relationships With Mutual Relationship
There is a lot of different opinions when it comes to having a mutual relationship with a male and
female without it being anything more. Many believe that this is not right because they feel as
though that no man and woman could possibly be friends without any feelings involved in the
relationship. This view is often associated with the person who has a significant other that has a
close friend that is of the opposite sex. Others who have friends that are of the opposite sex feel as
though nothing is wrong with it because they are used to it. I feel as though this topic is rooted to
the fact that it is only for the people that are mature, it is important for people on both sides to be
mature and have clear intentions with both the friend... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, people argue that a heterosexual male and female couldn t be friends because it often
ends with them starting a relationship even if they were friends with the person while they had a
significant other. I have also seen this happen where a friend of mines was friends with a girl that
had a boyfriend and he also had a girlfriend but now they were so close that their friendship has
turned into a relationship. I feel as though if everyone knows the other persons intention it will be
less difficult, even though sometimes their intentions often change.
Communicating with a person of the opposite sex about how you feel emotionally often helps
because something you would not feel comfortable with just venting to the same sex. Although
men seem strong and nothing ever phases them it is important to have a friend for emotional
support. Often men go through things that hit them emotionally and it is better to have a female
to vent to rather than another male. This is shown when someone loses a family or a tragic
situation of that sort, sure your buddies can give you a word of encouragement but to tell someone
how you feel deep down inside it is helpful to have a female to talk to. Often women are more
comfortable to talk to than a guy about something a male is going through on an emotional level.
Emotionally, females feel as though men create a safer environment because often times it is hard
for them to trust their

Comparing Cinder And Cinderella
Although Cinder and Cinderella have many similarities, there are also differences. They have the
same plot, the same theme and have more differences than similarities. But Cinderella is a movie
and cinder is book. Although Cinder has more in the book I think Cinderella has a lot more than
cinder. Cinderella s name is Ella. not Cinderella. Her step sister nicknamed her that. Ella knew her
birth mother and father. Her mother died when she was young and her father died shortly after
her step mother came into her life. Ella s friends are animals (mice). She is a lonely girl. She

Angel Investors And The Venture Capitalists
1. What types of people are angel investors, and how are they different from venture capitalists?
Angel Investors are the sophisticated ones who generally used to fund the startup companies. Any
entrepreneur who wishes to establish a startup might search for investors. And investors who are
willing to fund are known as Angel Investors. And the amount availed through investments for
startups are called Angel Investments. Also there is another kind of investment also called as capital
investment. Depending upon the policies evolved at management level of a business these
investors are categorized. Not only confined to financial return, some factors such as motivation
drive investors to spend with startups. Either from a relation prospective or from some successive
entrepreneurs, we expect them to be investors. It would reflect a better understanding between
angel investor and startup entrepreneur, if proper agreements are made at the start of business.
Angel Investors might be of different types which probably contain
Family Investors: This kind of investor is not really a usual Angel Investor at all, except a
supportive family member that knows you . Motivation behind this investment is to support to you
as a family member or friend. These kinds of investments are totally built up with trust, emotions
and personal. Depending upon the financial situation and relationships, this type of investments can
work only if everyone comes with their eyes wide open.

The image may seem disturbing to others, but it holds a sentimental message. As you look at the
advertisement, your eyes will automatically detect the picture of the corpse of an Albatross bird
on hard concrete and its open abdomen. As a substitute to intestines, stray objects that are thrown
out by humans take place inside its stomach. A lighter, a few bottle caps, and other plastic objects
was consumed by the bird and caused its death. Rather than the rubbish being in the trash, it is
instead inside the bird who innocently mistook the items for food. Since the background is black
and the Albatross feathers are similar, they both blend together. This feature gives focus on the
junk inside its stomach that can be easily spotted. On the bottom right corner of the advertisement,
the logo for Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT) is seen, which builds the credibility of the maker of
the advert. The purpose of the print ad is to spread awareness throughout mankind, and EWT is
doing their part of protecting wildlife from facing extinction. People will more likely take notice of
plastic trash surrounding them knowing that EWT is a company that wants to protect animal

Women in Art Essay
Women in Art
Throughout history many artistic works have been deemed great and many individuals have been
labeled masters of the discipline. The question of who creates art and how is it to be classified as
great or greater than another has commonly been addressed by scholars and historians. The last
quarter of the 20th century has reexamined these questions based on the assertions that no women
artists have ever created or been appreciated to the level of greatness that perpetually befalls their
male counterparts. The position that society has institutionalized on women as unable to be
anything but subordinate and unexpressive is a major contributor to this claim. Giving a brief
history of gender discrimination in the art ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the Guerrilla Girls, art museums average 15% women in curated exhibits, and
minority women only .003%. On top of that, only 4% of museum acquisitions are of work by
women artists (Strawter).
The study of why women artists have systematically been erased from history and why currently the
exhibition of women s art is not valued as much as the male artists continues. There have been
many theories behind the eradication of women artists from history. At the beginning of the Women
s Liberation Movement, an art historian by the name of Linda Nochlin published an article called,
Why have there been no great women artists? In here article, she addressed her own question
offering one of the first consciously feminist challenges to the established canons of art history.
Her query proved to be a rallying cry for women artists in the fervent days of the Women s
Liberation movement and offered fragments of a manifesto to women artists, and others, intent on
reexamining and ultimately restructuring the discipline (Morse, 1992). Nochlin argues that
contemporary feminists contend that there is a different greatness between men s art and women
s art. This view of art undermines the general discipline. It categorizes its value in order to give it
a higher classification among gender. Many women are trying to delve back into history and
recapture any trace of artistic women in order to document and arrange their

Essay traglear King Lear as a Bradley Tragedy
King Lear as a Bradley Tragedy King Lear meets all the requirements of a tragedy as defined by
Andrew Cecil Bradley. Bradley states that a Shakespearean tragedy has to be the story of the hero
and there is exceptional suffering and calamity slowly being worn in. Also, the current time must
be contrasted to happier times. The play also depicts the troubled parts in the hero s life and
eventually he dies instantaneously because of the suffering and calamity. There is the feeling of
fear in the play as well, that makes men see how blind they are not knowing when fortune or
something else would be on them. The hero must be of a high status on the chain and the hero must
also possess a tragic flaw that initiates the tragedy.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to this flaw, Lear has given way to the two older daughters to conspire against him. Lear is
finally thrown out of his daughters homes and left with a fool, a servant and a beggar. This is
when Lear realizes the mistake that he has made and suffers the banishment of his two eldest
daughters. Lear is caught in a storm and begins to lose his sanity because he can not bear the
treatment of his two daughters as well as the error he has made with Cordelia and Kent. Lear
also suffers from lack of rest when he is moving all over the place and the thing that breaks him
is the death of his youngest daughter, Cordelia. This suffering can be contrasted with other
happier times like when Lear was still king and when he was not banished by his two daughters.
The feeling of fear is when Lear is in the storm raging against the gods, I tax not you, you
elements, with unkindness. I never gave you kingdom, called you children, you owe me no
subscription (act #, scene #, line #), telling them to rage harder since he has not done anything for
them and that he didn t deserve what he has received from his two daughters. The fear is how Lear
in a short period of time went from king to just a regular peasant and from strong and prideful to
weak and unconfident. This shows that men do not

Analysis Of Fight Club And The Girl With The Dragon
How David Fincher uses colour in the film Fight Club and how this is used to influence the viewer.
Colour in film is very important, it can change the mood of the film, influence viewers emotions
as they watch, can be used as symbolism and can even teach the viewer in a very short time to
expect something to happen when a certain colour is shown. The Director of Fight club and other
films such as Se7en and the Girl with the Dragon tattoo, David Fincher is very well known for
working closely with the cinematographer and his post production team to tightly control the colour
in his films and being quite innovative in his techniques to achieve better quality of colour and
control over his films.
David Fincher, the director of Fight Club is well known for the certain look of his films as he
has developed his own signature style, sometimes called reality enhanced as his style is natural
lighting but in a new almost HD way. He uses techniques such as LED lighting, the films are dark
and dank but colourful at the same time. As a usual template it seems he de saturates the picture
then depending on the mood of the scene he warms up or cools off the image often times he uses
blue in the shadows to add depth and to retain the crisp blackness and teal to the highlights this
shows a strong understanding of how colours work together.

yellows, blues and greens. Yellowis usually a happy

Advantages Of Reciprocating Compressors
1.Introduction A Reciprocating compressor or piston compressor is a positive displacement
compressor that uses pistons driven by a crankshaft to deliver gases at high pressure. All
compressor types have a clearance volume that contains gas at the discharge pressure at the end
of the discharge process. This volume may be small in some designs and significant in others.
Reciprocating compressors may have a large clearance volume, but recover the work done on this
gas by expanding it back to suction pressure in the cylinder. Reciprocating air compressors use
positive displacement, which generates air pressure via two sides that provide either suction or
discharge. Positive displacement is suitable for compressing small amounts of air at high... Show

This will either move it to the second phase of compression or the final one, depending on the
nature of your compressor. Compressing air generates heat that limits the oxygen content of the
air , thus reducing its density. Cooling the air essentially acts as a simple method for allowing
denser and more oxygen rich air to be again used by the engine, which in turn provides more fuel
and improves the power output when the air compressor is working with a combustion engine.
Intercoolers are essential for two reasons. First, they cool the air down to a proper temperature
to designed to remove moisture and water from the air. You will typically see this filter listed as
a moisture trap. After the air is cooled, it s returned to your compressor for additional
compressing. 5.4 Second, Higher Pressure Compression The air will move back into the main
chamber of your air compressor or the second chamber ,depending on its design and will be
further compressed by a high pressure element. The maximum pressure you will achieve typically
ranges from 116 to 145

Replacing the Current Income Tax Structure with the FairTax Plan
It is the general agreement of tax payers everywhere that the current tax system is way too
complicated. You either need to have a certified public accountant help you do them or a
specialized tax program to walk you through it. Not only that, but the costs associated with
having someone prepare your taxes or buying the specialized computer program needed to
navigate the myriad of entangled tax codes and laws can become quite expensive. But it is not

The President placed upon the panel stipulations as to what types of recommendations could be
made, such as reducing the cost of compliance, having to base at least one recommendation on the
current tax structure and that all recommendations had to be revenue neutral, meaning they had to
be able to collect the same amount of taxes that the government was projected to collect under the
current tax structure. Unfortunately, due to those stipulations imposed upon the panel, they were
limited in what they could recommend. Even in today s environment, in a news article by Fox
Business, President Trump has recently talked about a major tax reform.
Unfortunately, all of these reforms are simply trying to patch up the current income tax system when
what is really needed is a complete replacement to a new tax system. One of the better alternative
tax systems being proposed is the National Retail Sales Tax (NRST), also known as the FairTax.
The FairTax plan, which was originally introduced back in 1999, was reintroduced by House
Representative John Linder and Senator Saxby Chambliss in 2007. It proposes to replace the
current income tax system, which includes personal income, corporate income, estate and gift,
capital gains, alternative minimum tax, Social Security, Medicare, and self employment

Why The Little Mermaid Should Be a Part of Everyone s World?
The Little Mermaid is a 1989 Disney classic animation film that ought to be a part of everyone s

entertaining and lively as well, especially with the addition of the realistic and bright animations
and the catchy songs nearly every person is familiar with, like Under the Sea . These cartoons and

Ariel was extremely different from all the other mermaids in Atlantis, not to mention she was the
princess. She was an exceedingly curious mermaid, especially anything dealing with humans or
land. She was always off exploring and loved spending her spare time collecting and observing
human objects that she had found. However, all of these activities and actions were not normal
for a mermaid, especially not King Triton s daughter. Even with all these struggles and criticism,
she manages to fight above the mermaids and her father s sea level, literally, to achieve her hope
and dreams she had been longing for. She inspires others to never conform to society s norms
and to always follow your dreams, no matter the consequences or struggles. This is a valuable
lesson to be aware of and to follow in today s harsh society, particularly with the new rise of evil
gossiping and criticism. Ariel is also pictured as a real life hero when she risks her own safety
and life to save Prince Eric, a stranger she merely just meet and gawked over, from a shipwreck.
Not only did she risk her life and safety, but she also knew that her father would not approve of
this and be awfully angry. Unlike general mermaids, Ariel was brave and caring, so she was
willing to risk her life and safety for a stranger, and a human, their enemy at that. This inspires
others to always be kind and to help those in need, no matter the circumstances, because you
never know when you may be in their footsteps. For example, in the end of this motion picture,
Eric returns the favor by risking his life to save Ariel from the evil and now ginormous Ursula.
This is an example of how good things come in return to those who remain caring and help others.
Overall, Ariel is an inspiring character to follow or swim in her tail fins. She inspires others to
follow their dreams, no matter the

Alternatives to Replacing Human Workforce Abstract In today s workforce, there is a silent fear
lurking amongst blue and white collar workers alike. There is a worldwide threat of machines
beating people out of jobs that many have invested time and money to acquire. As leaders and
positions of management we are the soothsayers to those masses. What can we as leaders be
prepared to do to satiate the worried minds of the ones that depend on the existence of these
positions? Would it be more detrimental or beneficial to society to reduce the human workforce
and put so many bodies out of work? Does protecting the bottom line conflict with social

Technology Is Not Good For Students
In todays society technology is becoming more popular in our school systems, and even in our
workforce. Many people may argue that technology is not good for students, but I disagree.
Technology in the classroom is very important for students not only for their social, or learning lives
but also when they get into the workforce. If students learn technologyin their early years they will
not have a difficult time when they enter the workforce to find that there is a lot of technology
being used.
Since the first affordable personal computer came out in the 1980 s technology has had a big
impact on children in the K 12 grade classroom. As technology has become more reliable and
more available in schools the role of the teacher has changed. When a teacher has knowledge in
technology, teachers are able to teach students to become successful learners in the 21st century,
which will allow them to find, seek, and assimilate data from multiple sources. As we all know
education does not stop in the K 12 grade classroom or even at the college level. In todays society
students continue to educate themselves even if they are not in the classroom. With students
continuing to educate themselves it helps them prepare to self teach in order to be competitive in
the 21st century job force (Molnar). Many of us may see that there are many careers out there that
require an individual to have education in technology. Since technology is increasing more and

Analysis Of The Slow Paced spring Summer Winter Spring...
Few words are spoken in Kim Ki duk s Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring. Yet much is
expressed regarding humankind s relationship with nature. The slow paced, contemplative movie
explores key Buddhist principles, including rebirth and meditation, through the life of an apprentice
monk. Laden with heavy symbolism, as seen in the use of the seasons, animals, architecture,
medicine and punishment, the film deeply considers people s connection to their environment,
stressing in particular the importance of both inner and outer harmony. Seasons The seasons are
likely the most notable motif of the film, which progresses through them as they match the stages
of the Apprentice s life. As the once young man presumably returns towards the end to replace his
old master, the wheel of life turns again. The beautiful cinematography, featuring long shots of the
surrounding landscape, captures the breathtaking beauty of the area as the seasons change. By
enriching the movie with these scenes, rather than focusing on just the plot, Kim invites the viewer
to appreciate the setting s beauty, allowing time for reflection on both the story and the cyclical
tendencies of nature and life. Following the seasons through the Apprentice s life reflects a cycle of
rebirth that is an integral part of Buddhist teachings. Animals More subtly, animals also play a
significant role in each stage of the Apprentice s life. Like the seasons, one creature matches up
with the Apprentice during each phase

The Effect Of Aggregate Demand On The Economy
As supported by the minutes released from the November meeting of the Federal Open market

through the foreseeable future. The economy has returned to normalcy in terms of Consumer Price

The concern with the current slow growth of the Fed Funds Rate is that there is a similar pattern
as there was prior to the decline in 2008, where inflation tanked and the Fed Funds Rate, which
was high at 4.24% was not enough to halt the inflation drop. The similar pattern in inflation and the
Fed Funds Rate can be seen in the two graphs below. If the Federal Open Market Committee does
not increase the rate of the growing Fed Funds Rate within the next few quarters the likeliness of
another recession increases. Although it would not be as extensively damaging as the recession in
2008, a recession would be nonetheless detrimental to the economy, as we would be set back in all
the economical progress that has been made in the past 10 years, as shown in the graphs above.
Currently, the Federal Reserve has set the rate to rest at a target range of 1 to 1 1/4 percent. The
Federal Open Market Committee acknowledged in their November meeting that inflation has more
headway to make until it is at the two percent mark they have set as a long term target. This
situation contains both positive and negative elements. A low inflation rate benefits consumer
confidence, because consumers are easily able to manage the gradual inflation and do not see
change reflected in day to day consumption since inflation rises slowly. However, with a low

The use of the black socks signifies high social position and falls into the criteria of being a
status link as well as a content link, meaning it continues the narrative of the previous verse.
Basho starts the verse with the inclusion of the black socks, setting the socioeconomic status of
the character, and Kyorai changes that character into that of a sword bearer following his master,
continuing the narrative and carrying the idea of the character s higher status from Basho s verse.
The next verse that will be examined is the one linking verses 893 and 894. This link is

out the lonely feeling of the monk as he thinks about having to return to the temple as we walks out

Compare And Contrast Samsung And Apple
When watching multiple commercials for comparable products, sometimes even back to back, they
can seem very different at first but upon closer inspection some can start to see their similarities.
Both Samsung and Apple are prominent phone makers, and most people either own one of their
phones, or know of them. While both companies have commercials that are both similar and
different from one another, even the ones that seem to be the most different have their ties that
make them more comparable than one may think. In Apple s commercial for the iPhone called
Barber, and Samsung s Galaxy S7 commercial featuring Lil Wayne, each has their own style in
presenting their product to potential viewers. Despite this they are both related in that they are both
featuring one specific feature for their products, have a lighthearted tone, a central focus, and a
quick pace. Making each one entertaining to watch, even multiple times. Both commercials are
overall good and when looking at the similarities, these are what make the commercials even
more so. Apple s commercial simply called, Barbers, begins with the ad showing a barbershop
from the outside, and quickly goes to the inside where a man is getting his hair cut. While
another guy is sitting in one of the chairs he decides to take out his iPhone to take a picture once
the man is done. The barber then decides to put this picture on the window of the shop. This
creates a snowball effect as more and more people are attracted to

Building A Working Environment For A Small Coffee Shop Essay
Scenario
A property developer is converting an old railway station into retail and office accommodation.
The client is keen to make the working environment for the staff as comfortable as possible. As a
consultant, explain how this can be done by addressing the relevant grading criteria.
Introduction
I am hoping to convert this railway station into an office with a small coffee shop also in the
building. The railway station is very old and hard to heat, so there will have to be a large amount of
work done to make the building a nice place for people to work. There also isn t any lighting in the
surrounding area so I will have to think about that when I am contracting the building proposal. The
three factors that will have to be considered are Heat, Lighting and Acoustics, these are the main
things that will ensure comfort within the offices and corner shop if they are at the optimum level.
I will now work through the assignment and always think of the changes required to transform the
railway station into an office.
Task 1
Task A:
Identify and describe the basic factors that will influence human comfort in the retail office
accommodation in thermal, acoustic and visual terms.
There are three main factors that influence human comfort in the office setting, these are: Thermal
terms, Acoustic Terms and Visual terms. Thermal terms include the clothing of an employee or the
air temperature in the workplace. Air temperature is arguably the most important factor that

Coco Mademoiselle Ads
The Coco Mademoiselle ad by Chanel incorporates many explicit messages from the First Order of
Signification which can be deconstructed to reveal manipulative implicit meaning through the
Second Order of Signification . In the first explicit message the viewer sees that the signifier is
that the model is naked and is cover herself with maleclothing. The signified meaning is that it is
showing that the male presence is dominant as she is covering herself with men s suspenders. This
shows that even though this is an ad meant for women the male presence influences unrealistic
standards on how everyone sees beauty towards women. The next explicit image that can be seen in
the ad is the item that they are trying to sell the bottle of perfume... Show more content on

By being able to deconstruct these image based ads it has changed my reaction when I see them
now, now I m more wary of how I see them because I see the model or models as a tool to get
across a message. An example of this is when we had to deconstruct the Vogue ad what this did was
show the female model was submissive, an item to the male model and that the male is in control
of the female model as he clinches her and is in control of a yonic symbol the ball showing his
dominance. It has made me see things that are usually innocent like a beautiful model and a
renowned NBA star into seeing how he owns her and she is completely oblivious to the fact that
she is being controlled by a man and is okay with it. Another thing that this course has impacted
on future ads that I ll see is the colours in these ads. Now when I see all of these colours in these
ads I would be wondering what the ad really meant as the colours give all of the symbols more
meaning. So this has showed me how much the simplest thing like colours can have the biggest
effect on the ad to make it have a completely different meaning then what we original saw it for.
The last point is how I would caution other people about how they get manipulated by what the ad
is communicating to us. I would say that these ads are now

John Scopes Inherit The Wind
Inherit the Wind Rough Draft The Play Inherit the Wind is very similar to many different events in
history, such as the Scopes trial, or even the McCarthy trials. In the famous Scopes trial or Monkey
trial, John Scopes was caught teaching evolution to his biology students. Not long before the trial,
Darwin s Theory of Evolutionhad been published. Darwin s novel contained a newly formed idea
that man was created from gradual evolution. The idea caused an outrage from several Christian
religious groups, because it went against the book of Genesis in the Bible. This discontent grew so
much that the state of Tennessee passed a law on evolution. This law prohibited the teaching of
evolution, with a $500 dollar fine per violation. The Scopes trial led the most famous lawyers of
the time to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To break this law was a minor offense, but it would shake America. Scopes lost the trial, but he
showcased a point to the world. The play writers used the Scopes trial to warn of the McCarthy
trails, which were happening when it was written. He argued that he had the freedom of speech to
teach what he wanted. This is very similar to Inherit the Windin which Bertram Cates, also
intentionally breaks the laws because he believes that he should be able to teach what he wants.
In the play, the prosecutor, Mathew Harrison Brady, is a very religious man who believes very
strongly in the Bible. He is a priest and basks in popularity and adoration. He is very similar to
the prosecutor in the Scopes trial, who is also a religious and popular man. Through the play
Inherit the Wind, Mathew Harrison Brady held onto the old ways too tightly, he built his beliefs
and life around love and adoration from others, and when that was taken

Purpose Of Immortality In Ancient Egyptian Religion
Purpose of Immortality Out of all things, there is usually one aspect of life that may bring people
together and bring consistency to their lives religion. There are a wide variety of different
religions, yet many of them contain overlapping beliefs and concepts, including life after death, and
it does not matter whether or not these religions are monotheistic or polytheistic. As a result, people
may have a general notion of death, however, what many do not realize is that these religions
support the idea of immortality. Although there is a contradiction when religions tell people that
death is inevitable yet that they are also immortal, it is true because many religions have the idea of

That being said, it is clear to see that Ancient Egyptians did believe in immortality, but to add to
this, the fact that one of the many death rites includes mummification, further extends the concept
of immortality because of the fact that the purpose of it is to preserve the bodies. On another
note, The Book of the Dead provided instructions and access to magical power to assist the
deceased in his passage to the afterlife and in his existence there (184). This is because of the fact
that living well off was a very important aspect of the Ancient Egyptian religion. They wanted their
paradise and afterlife to seem appealing because they do not want people to not enjoy themselves
once they have died. It is very important to them to keep these souls content and happy for a reason,
hence the fact that they have offerings for the dead. With this, they are able to keep the faith in
happiness after death alive, to help them understand death

Negro Spirituals
Negro Spirituals
Spirituals, a religious folk song of American origin, particularly associated with African American
Protestants of the southern United States. The African American spiritual, characterized by
syncopation, polyrhythmic structure, and the pentatonic scale of five whole tones, is, above all, a
deeply emotional song. Spirituals are really the most characteristic product of the race genius as yet
in America. But the very elements which make them uniquely expressive of the Negro make them
at the same time deeply representative of the soil that produced them. Spirituals were long thought
to be the only original folk music of the United States, and research into its origin centered mainly
on the nature and extent of its African ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From this point of view we have essentially four classes, the almost ritualistic prayer songs or
pure Spirituals, the freer and more unrestrained evangelical shouts or camp meeting songs, the folk
ballads so overlaid with the tradition of the Spirituals proper that their distinctive type quality has
almost been unnoticed until lately, and the work and labor songs of strictly significant character.
Indeed, in the pure Spirituals one can trace the broken fragments of an evangelical folk liturgy,
with confession, exhortation, mourning, conversion and love feast rejoicing as the general stages
of a Protestant folk mass. It is not a question of religious content or allusion, for the great majority
of the Negro songs have this more delicate question of caliber of feeling and type of folk use. The
distinctiveness of the Spirituals after all and their finest meaning resides in their musical elements.
The characteristic beauty of the folk song is harmonic, in distinction to the more purely rhythmic
stress in the secular music of the Negro, which is the basis of ragtime and jazz ; while regarding
the one as the African component in them, and the other as the modifying influence of the religious
hymn.
In the United States the rhythmic element, though still dominant, has ceded measurably to the
melodic, the dance having given way to religious worship,

The Effects Of Contaminated Water On Human Life
Researchers have been studying the causes and effects of contaminated water on human life. Water
is to be considered a major and important resource on the planet, but it can also be a major health
risk towards human life especially on young children. Young children are more vulnerable to
diseases because their immune systems are experiencing everything for the first time. These health
risks can include diarrhea, dental fluorosis, or toxicant. Diarrhea can be life threatening due to
fluid loss. In 1998, diarrhea was estimated to have killed 2.2 million people, most of whom were
under 5 years of age (WHO, 2000). It is more common when there is a shortage of clean water for
drinking. Dental fluorosis is a defect of the teeth marked by the increased porosity of the enamel.
The longer one has dental fluorosis the more their teeth begin to rotten and crumble. The water
sources that can be contaminated are ponds, lakes, seas, oceans, or reservoirs. All these sources are
what we use for drinking and bathing. But having clean water cannot be achieved everywhere.
Africa, especially, has a poor water quality. Africa does not have the resources for clean water like
the United States does. Humans need to be careful of where they get their source of drinking water
because of the health risk that contaminated water possesses on humans, but mostly young children.

Remember the Titans is a film that tells the story about a period of history in the United States,
when the differences between black and white people were much assumed. The black people
wanted to feel respected and not discriminated by the whites, and because of that they wanted the
same rights as the others.
In this story, for the first time, all people could attend the same high school, and this change created
many problems between students and their families.

2. What are the main character s leadership strengths (if any) and why? What are the main character
s leadership weaknesses (if any) and why?
In my opinion, coach Boone had many leadership strengths: He had his goal to make the team a
winning team, and to do that he knew he would have to overcome many obstacles, to make the
players a real team and a group of players.
To do that, he needed the capacity to motivate the team, to push them harder to achieve the goals, to
make them expect more from themselves and their teammates.
For me, one of the best moments that showed coach Boone was a very good leader was when he
Boone woke up all the players in the evening and made them run with him. He didn t just order
them to do something he knew was difficult. He did it with them. He had self sacrificed for the
team. Coach Yoast, went to tell him that he was pushing them too hard, but Boone knew exactly
what he was doing. When he stopped the running, and gave the speech about the differences and
what that had as result, I think that speech changed the attitude between the players. That speech
inspired them to want to be more, to want to grow as a group. And in the next game, after the
Capitan of the team took the first step, they finally started to be a united team.

A mainframe is a very large, powerful, dedicated, multi tasking computer where enormous amounts
of data are processed, sometimes millions of records a day. The mainframe is set up for specific
applications and those applications only; which is totally different from a Personal Computer (PC).
A mainframe runs a custom operating system specifically written for particular applications while a
PC has a generic operating system such as Windows and is built to handle many different programs.
PC s are multi tasking but not dedicated with control of the resources usually handled by the
computer rather than the user having control over the amount of resources used by any given
application. For example, if you were to run ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

downloaded twice a day.
So how Big is Big?
The main purpose of a mainframe was to run commercial applications and large scale computing,
such as that done by the IRS, and banks where enormous amounts of data are processed sometimes
millions of records a day.
A typical mainframe has the following characteristics:
В·A mainframe has several CPUs.
В·Memory is hundreds of Gigabytes of RAM and It has tons of hard drive storage.
В·Its processing power is over 550 Mips.
В·It often has different cabinets for storage, input/ouput and RAM.
В·Distributes the workload over different processors and input/output devices. It can handle a large
number of users.
В·All processes are running on the host and not on the terminal.
В·Output is sent to the terminal through a program running (in the background) on the mainframe.
In my case it is called PIMS.
В·Nothing else goes over the line
Management processes, such as program management and task management, are separate. A
mainframe is usually associated with centralized computing where all computing physically takes

as the northwestern coast of the United States, Hawaii, or New Zealand. However, 1.4 billion
years ago, super volcanoes characterized the Midwestern United States. Today, the Midwest is
known for its rather simple layer cake geology. The Midwest is a part of the North American
Craton, meaning that it has remained relatively stable for the past 600 million years. Thus, a

We went on a weekend trip to Fredericktown, Missouri and stopped at different locations in the
area trying to understand the different igneous features we were seeing. The area is packed with
igneous exposures from columnar basalts, Precambrian basement rock, granitic ring complexes,
volcanic ejecta, to mantle xenoliths. Together, these features provide insight into the overall
geology of the region, indicating that this terrain was once an active nested caldera complex
(multitude of calderas within calderas). The highly silicic nature of these rocks indicates that
calderas formed from the collapsing of rhyolitic dome structures, which sometimes in geologic
literature is referred to as super volcanoes. The super volcanoes here are thought to have formed,
the way many calderas do, by a subsurface pluton pushing its way up into the crust and erupting.
Once the plutonic material erupts, the land subsides and the central part of the once outstretched
region becomes a crater, which is termed caldera. In the case of the St. Francois Mountains and the
highly silicic volcanics that are found in the region the plutonic source is potentially granitic in
nature. However, there are mafic exposures, which are result of occasional basalt and mafic melts
making their way to the surface through mantle source. Geologically, the St.Francois Mountains are
complex, and as a regional feature, I do not know the entire evolutionary history for their

A Brief Look at Mary Magdalene
As an influential biblical figure, Mary Magdalene has been the subject of numerous works of art.
She has been represented in a variety of tropes and styles; which were subject to the religious,
political, and social standards of the time. Giacomo Galli s Saint Mary Magdalene was painted in
the early seventeenth century in Italy, at the beginning of the Baroqueera. By contorting Magdalene
s body, bathing her in light and encompassing her in darkness, Galli was able to present the viewer
with an image representative of her divided identity.
Galli likely chose to paint the Magdalene because she was one of the most popular saints in
Baroque Italy. As Susan Haskins (author of Mary Magdalen: Myth and Metaphor) notes, from the
thirteenth century, the penitent Magdalene became the most popular image of the saint in Italy, as
the perfect example of a reformed sinner. Magdalene s ______ demonstrated a realistic path of
personal improvement. Her reputation, at the time, revolved around her supposed past as a
prostitute. Historically, this meant that she was cured of a physical ailment and not of prostitution.
However, as it was believed that Magdalene s transformation from prostitute to apostle made her
accessible to the Catholic community, the church exemplified this notion in order to make
Magdalene a suitable role model for repentance.
Religiously charged Baroque paintings of the seventeenth century, such as Galli s Saint Mary
Magdalene, were created by two distinctly

An Exploration of Management Practices in a Military...
Introduction An exploration of management practices in a military organization is substantively
different in a number of ways from the same type of exploration conducted in the world of civilian
enterprise. In the military, there is a cord extending from Pentagon level leadership to down range
command. This cord is an articulation of myriad rules and regulations that are not vulnerable to
managerial whimsy or subject to the next new best managementpractice being promulgated in Ivy
League business schools as the enlightened way forward. This is not to say that military
management cannot or does not access the rich store of contemporary management theory. Rather,
it is a validation of the place reasoned change has in the military machination. For military
management practices to be revised, there must be a clear cut advantage to capacity and force
development. ARFOGEN was established for just those reasons to ensure that the Army regained
its balance in order to meet the requirements to operate in an environment of prolonged conflict

Similarities Between Johnson And Clinton Impeachments
This assignment asks us to compare and contrast the impeachment proceedings of Presidents
Andrew Johnson, Richard Nixon and William Clinton, while identifying the ethical dilemmas
presented by each. In addition, students are to categorize the ethical violations of each President by
severity and discuss whether the actions by the Senate were politically motivated or ethical. The
initial similarity obviously lies in the fact that these three gentlemen belong to a very small club of
which they are the only members; Presidents who have been impeached. President Clinton
underwent impeachment proceedings but was not impeached, those who brought impeachment
proceedings were unable to muster enough votes to formally impeach him. President Andrew
Johnson also underwent impeachment proceedings but again, those who sought to discredit him
were also unable to muster the needed votes, so he too remained in office. President Nixon
resigned before he was ousted. An examination of why each of the three were impeached will give
us a better understanding of the political climate of the respective times and why Presidents
Clinton and Johnson were able to remain in office when President Nixon was forced out.

contribute to the debate are the cast, songs, and set design. All in all, people respect the live
version because it is hard to pull off in one take. The characters in the two cast were portrayed
similarity. Sandy Olsson stood out to me the most because in the live version she is not from

Nuclear Waste Is The Substance That Nuclear Fuel
Nuclear waste is the substance that nuclear fuel becomes after it has been used in a reactor.
Although the metal rods appear unchanged after their use, the material inside has changed
greatly. Before it was used to produce power, the fuel mainly consisted of uranium. In order to
create heat energy in the reactor, U235 undergoes fission. Fission is a nuclear reaction in which
the nucleus of an atom splits into smaller parts. As a result of this, there is a chain reaction
which creates heat. The control rods control the fission rate and the temperature. In the steam
generator, the heat and cooling water create pressured steam which moves the turbine. The
turbine creates energy that goes into a generator which gives off electricity. The water from the
turbine is able to become usable since it gets cooled. Once a reactor reaches its lifetime, it
becomes spent fuel and is treated as waste. Most countries bury the spent fuel or reuse it. In the
U.S., we haven t decided what to do with the spent fuel so most of the spent fuel rods are stored
in temporary storage pools. In the future, the United States plans to bury the waste in the Yucca
Mountains which are located in Nevada. This would be a suitable place since it is not close to
humans or the environment. For the first part of the lab we had to go on Blackboard and open the
Spent Fuel document. We had to go to Appendix III which had some text and a chart about how

In 1988, Ray Budde (A University of Massachusetts Amherst Professor) felt that something needed
to be done to improve the public education system in the United States. Falling test scores and rising
dropout rates provoked a movement for reform. Ray Budde pointed out many restrictions set by
state governments that inhibited the potential of many students and how these restrictions were
damaging the educational system rather than maintaining it. He proposed a plan that would
eliminate these restrictions and create a system where students would excel. This idea took hold
when the American Federation of Teachers adopted the idea and set up the first Charter Schools in
Minnesota in 1991. These were the first of many charter schools in the... Show more content on

Although very risky, starting a charter school has its advantages too. A study performed by Phi
Delta Kappa International focuses on the differences between charter schools and public schools.
This study gives a comprehensive interpretation of the advantages charter schools have over public
schools. The study mainly focuses on the management aspect of the charter schools and shows
how principals of charter schools use their power to put their schools ahead of public schools. A
former public school principle interviewed eight charter school principals on how they hired
teachers. The interviews suggested that charters schools are serving as exciting seedbeds for new
approaches to finding, employing, and keeping better teachers. ( Finn) Interestingly enough some
principals would be willing to hire non state certified teachers to meet their standards of quality.
These principals were looking for was a teacher who was highly intelligent, had prestigious college
background, was articulate, and liked kids. (Finn) Although they would be taking a risk hiring
someone without the standard teaching qualifications set by the state, they knew that with their
intelligence and prestige, they would strive to educate the children as they would themselves. The
charter school system gives the principal the power to hire teachers which enables them to select
the teachers that match the needs and culture of their school. Most of these principals look for
overachievers, those who want to

milgrams study into obedience
Describe and discuss two factors that Milgram found effect obedience? Refer to empirical evidence
in your answer Milgram s original study into obedience came under to a lot of scrutiny because of
both mythological and ethical problems. This meant that the validity of Milgram s study was put
into question. Following the study were further investigations to see what might change and explain
the results that Milgram found, both by Milgram himself and other psychologists. Variations to his
study throw up interesting theories to the situational and dispositional factors that might affect
levels of obedience. One variation of Milgram s study investigated the role that buffers may have
on the level of obedience of a individual. Two... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ecological validity in this experiment is greater than that in Milgram s variation; this means
that it can be generalised to everyday situations and can explain why people s obedience may
increase if the level if perceived authority and status increases and when the opposite effect occurs.
To conclude, situational factors as seen above have been found to affect the level of obedience that
somebody shows. However, there are important dispositional factors that need to be taken into
consideration. People with a authoritarian personality may have a disposition to have a higher level
of obedience. Milgram found that the among the people who gave the highest shocks did indeed
have a authoritarian personality and blamed the leaner for the obedience. Crutchfield lead findings
into conformity (1955); he found that conformers tend to have a high authoritarian views and were
generally submissive. Obedience involves complex social roles this explains the link between
personality, conformity and obedience. Privately a participant may not want to administer the
shock, but publically when told to do so is submissive and

Altruism VS The Selfish Gene Essay
Would you give a penny to the needy? How about a kidney? A heart?
The thought of spring break brings up images of partying in warm weather, drunken one night
stands, and the raging hangovers that follow; yet for Rachel Garneau, a junior at Notre Dame, it
represented an pseudo holiday opportunity for giving, and give she did. This twenty year old
gave up a kidney for a complete stranger. There was an air of psychosis to her as she walked right
into the University Of Chicago s Bernard Mitchell Hospital, calm as ever; her demeanor quite
indifferent, her nonchalance quite unnerving. Funny how we find this act of complete altruism
weird ; because it is weird, all that we know from evolution, Darwinism, basic human tendencies,

Studies conducted on the early developmental egalitarianism and parochialism in children show
that other regarding factors are, to some extend, exist as inherent tendencies in all humans: when
allowed to choose between how candy is distributed among an anonymous partner and themselves,
the children chose to be heavily selfless in their distribution. As Fehr et al. come to this startling
conclusion in their paper Egalitarianism in young children , we see how proper upbringing and
cultural norms are not solely responsible for our altruistic nature. We have evolved to take others
into consideration in our choices; we have evolved a heart .
The innateness of these selfless tendencies is exemplified by the close study of our primitive
ancestors. Frans de Waal, professor of psychology at Emory University, studied the habit of the
greater apes. In his work Homo homini lupus? Morality, the Social Instincts, and our Fellow
Primates , deWaal talks about the surprising altruism we see in nature. Adult chimpanzees
consolidate each other after a fight; questioning all we know about how the wild is a cutthroat
struggle for survival.
The most striking evidence was that of the lesser evolved Capuchins. In an experiment to test
altruism in the very basic human precursors, deWaal separated two Capuchian monkeys, Vulcan
and Vergil, giving one the

Strategic Challenges And The Global Security Environment
The central problem discussed in this paper is to determine the general capabilities needed to
rebalance the Joint Force 2025 (JF25) considering the current strategic challenges and the global
security environment. This paper proposes that the JF25 focus on its competitive advantages and
curtail ineffective and expensive programs to preserve its ground forces capability to provide
deterrence and defeat capabilities critical to our National Strategic Objectives. To support this
position, this paper articulates the emerging threats to U.S. National Interests and highlights the key
strategic direction of published Department of Defense (DoD) strategy and strategic concepts.
Secondly, this proposal provides the broad capabilities that the JF25 must aggregate from each
service of the DoD. Finally, this paper articulates and mitigates the inherent risks to its proposed
capabilities. The emerging threats to U.S. National Interests are several. At the same time,
sequestration magnifies the criticality of miscalculated capability decisions. The persistent threat
trends of 2025 include the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, the rise of modern
competitor states, violent extremism, irregular warfare, regional instability, transnational criminal
activity, competition for resources, and lone actors. The National Military Strategy (NMS) of 2015

organizations, while recognizing the

Running Head: QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH CRITIQUE2 Introduction
A research critique is conducted for an article titled the Accuracy of Non contact Infrared
Thermometry versus Rectal Thermometry in Young Children Evaluated in the Emergency
Department for Fever. This research article is an empirical study that investigates the reliability and
accuracy of measuring pediatric body temperature using an infrared thermometer. An infrared
thermometer is based on the scientific observation that heat is emitted from warm bodies. An
infrared thermometer is placed on a patient s forehead and the body temperature is determined.
On the other hand, the rectal thermometer is placed in the rectum of a pediatric patient which can
be time consuming and uncomfortable. The researchers of this study used the two types of
thermometers to measure the body temperature of each patient simultaneously.Statistical analysis
was used to compare temperature readings from the two types of thermometers to determine if they
had different accuracies. Based on the findings, the rectal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Articles discussing the accurate recordings of pediatric patient s body temperature were cited in

overview of the historical importance of accurately recording a patient s body temperature. The
authors get more specific and cite studies on temperature recording techniques in children. For
instance, in justifying conflicting data, the researchers cite a similar study conducted on new born
babies by Polit Beck (2008), where the recordings from the two methods were

Views of Karl Marx and John Stuart Mill Essay examples
None of the supposed rights of man go beyond the egoistic man, man as he is a member of civil
society; that is, an individual separated from the community, withdrawn into himself, wholly
preoccupied with his private interests and acting in accordance with his private caprice.
Karl Marx, On the Jewish Question
The only freedom which deserves the name, is that of pursuing our own good in our own way, so
long as we do not attempt to deprive others of theirs, or impede their efforts to obtain it.
John Stuart Mill, On Liberty
While, after reading the above two quotations, it may appear that Karl Marx and John Stuart Mill
take seemingly opposing views on the proper ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The real truth, however, falls somewhere between these two poles.
Mill on the Individual
Mill wastes no time in articulating the central thesis of On Liberty; he states, Over himself, over
his own body and mind, the individual is sovereign (69). Mill, then, does not make the individual
more important than society, but he separates the individual from society and articulates a realm of
existence in which society, or the community, should have no power over the individual. Mill
states, The sole end for which mankind are warranted, individually or collectively, in interfering
with the liberty of action of any of their number is self protectionВ…His own good, either physical
or moral, is not a sufficient warrant (68). Society, therefore, has no right to intervene in the private
life of any person, unless they act in such a way that prevents others from enjoying their own rights.
Mill is extremely clear as to why the individual should be sovereign over his or her body and
mindВ—to counter the effects of a possible tyranny of the majority. Mill states, It (the majority)
practices a social tyranny more formidable than many kinds of political oppression, since, though
not usually upheld by such extreme penalties, it leaves fewer means of escape, penetrating much
more deeply into the details of life, and enslaving the soul itself (63).

Importance Of Guns And The Right To Carry Guns
Guns and the right to carry them is such a debatable topic in today s society. So many different
people have their opinions on how people should use their guns or where they can and can t
carry them. They have this misconception that guns are such a big problem and that they kill
people, but in reality guns are not the problem at all it is the people holding them. Even though
guns can be dangerous, guns are used for good more than bad. Getting a conceal carry permit is
something that has very precise steps to follow in order to obtain it. You are required to be at least
21 years of age. If for some reason you are ineligible to purchase a firearmthen you are no longer
able to get the permit to conceal a handgun. A person that has been convicted of a violent
misdemeanor or drunkenness in the last three years will be rejected if applied for a conceal
carry permit. As you can see a lot goes into obtaining the permit to be able to conceal a handgun.
After a very thorough background check gets cleared for the applicant the court may require
proof that the applicant can demonstrate competence with a handgun. This includes: completion
of a firearm training course offered by the NRA, the state, or school (Virginia Gun Laws). Also a
lot more goes into it. Many choose to conceal carry instead of open carry for a couple of different
reasons. When you conceal a handgun nobody knows you have the gun. If a criminal comes to rob
a gas station that you are in and sees a handgun on your hip

The Social Problem Of Family Violence And Abuse
The social problem I decided to discuss is the subject of family violence and abuse, which
includes spouses and children. Now, as Ember and Ember explain in the text, in order to deal
with violence within families, we must first decide on what should be classified as abuse and
what is not (Ember Ember, pg. 230). The word abuse can have various definitions across
cultures, as not everyone thinks of it in the same way. To some, hitting a child is a perfectly
acceptable form of punishment and of wife beating can be seen in a male dominating household
as a necessary act to keep a spouse in check. I personally believe that abuse can be defined as the
repeatedly cruel or violent treatment of someone, mainly intended to do harm against that person. I
believe that in order to combat this problem, there is a few main actions that can be done that can
at least reduce the amount of family violencewe see throughout cultures. For one, people need to
acknowledge that family violence, both domestic violenceand child abuseis real and exists
throughout countless societies and communities. The second is to realize that family violence is
not a necessary behavior and can actually have long lasting and damaging effects on the people we
love the most. The third action is to educate people in alternative ways they can deal with their
family members without having to resort to violence.
The first most important step in solving any problem is to actually express that there is a problem in

the natural reaction to a major loss such as the demise of a loved one. The grief has many
components such as physical, emotional, social, mental, and spiritual. A person can feel grief
during a serious, long term illness or with an incurable disease. The symptoms can be a great level
of depression, gloominess, guilt, and hopelessness. The common grief responses feelings include
numbness, shock, anger, anxiety, loneliness, fatigue, and yearning. The other common grief

In this stage, we feel the world around us turn out to be worthless and devastating, and we keep
us in a state of rejection. She further describes that we attempt to get a way to overcome day by
day. As we admit the truth of the loss and begin to ask ourselves question, we are unknowingly
experiencing the healing process. We are becoming stronger, and the denial is beginning to
fade. Anger is the next stage in the grieving process which is an essential phase of healing
process. The truth is that anger has no limits. When a person is angry it can spread to our
friends, our family, to ourselves and our loved one who died, also to God. In this situation, we
may ask the question to ourselves, where is God? Through anger we gradually acquire an inner
strength to cope with the situation, and we often feel the relation created from the strength of
anger is something useful. Clearly, we feel that anger is another mode of showing the intensity
of our love towards our loved ones. Bargaining is another stage in the grieving process in which
the grieving person makes bargains with God. In this stage, the grieving person may ask, God
will you carry away my loss, if I do this? Bargaining seldom give a permanent resolution,
particularly, if it s a subject of life or death. Depression is the next step in grieving process in
which the grieving person shows disinterest and will be reluctant from things of love and affection.

The Negative Effects Of Advertising And Its Effects On...
Advertising has a large impact on today s youth. This impact is largely created through use of
commercials on television. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention published an article
which explains that food commercials are one of the major components of advertising and they
are leading to an increase in health and weight problems in children. In addition to this,
psychologists such as Sandra L. Calvert have discovered that commercials give children a distorted
sense of reality and can lead to personality conflicts. Parents and scientists alike have found that
advertisements also can cause self esteem issues in young people, and this is a major concern. In
conclusion, the negative effects of advertisingon children are alarming. Commercials advertising
food are everywhere, and they are causing problems in children s eating habits. An article published
by the National Center for Biotechnology Information stated that food marketingtowards children
promotes mostly foods that are nutrient poor and contain lots of calories. The food being
advertised on tv is not good for children, but due to their vulnerability, they want it. Often times,
they get what they want, so kids are being fed very low quality food. A young childs body needs
nutrients in order to grow and cannot handle extreme amounts of calories. However, they food they
want goes against these principles and can cause health problems later on. According to a
healthcare clinic, Mayo Clinic, a

Persuasive Essay On Fad Diets
Fad Diets The first fad diet that I will be talking about is the South Beach Diet. This diet includes
cutting out carbs and focusing on lean protein, low fat dairy, and good carbs whole grains,
vegetables, and fruit. While the first phase of the diet is strict, the third Maintenance phase is
meant to be a lifelong eating plan that allows you to enjoy occasional treats while maintaining a
healthy weight. The person who created the diet is a Florida based cardiologist, Arthur
Agatston, MD, this diet was released in 2003. This diet cost three hundred dollars for four
weeks with fully prepared meals. The South Beach Diet is advertised in commercials. These
commercials tend to have pictures of people losing weight very rapidly not that realistic time
frame. The commercials also tend to have famous fitness people in the commercials so that the
public might believe in the diet more or are more likely to choose it over another. The South
Beach Diet is actually not that bad for you.The South Beach Diet incorporates good carbs,
healthy fats and plenty of lean protein. These are nutrient dense foods that can turn off the
switch for sugar and refined carb cravings. A fad diet is a diet that promises quick weight loss
through what is usually an unhealthy and unbalanced diet. This diet does promise quick results
and does kind of have a lack of some essential foods that we need. This diet does not require special
foods, but it does require less of a lot of foods. From this I think the

Montesquieu s Greatest Mark on Philosophy Essay
Doubtless, if Montesquieu were forced to choose a favorite mathematical formula, he would pick
the average function. For even among the great thinkers of the French Enlightenment, the baron de
Montesquieu stands out as an especially impassioned advocate for moderation. Montesquieu, of
course, left his greatest mark on the philosophy of the governance through his great work The
Spirit of the Laws. Though certainly his earlier work The Persian Letters sowed the seeds of many
of the ideas featured in his chef d Е“uvre. In particular, Montesquieu spends some time in both
works examining the universe of possible governments. But he advocates not, in fact, for
republicanism or, perhaps less surprisingly, despotism. Rather, Montesquieu... Show more content

Further, Usbek notes a few paragraph later, When Osman, the Turkish emperor, was deposed, none
of the men who performed the deed had any intention of carrying it out; they were simply
petitioners asking for some cause of complaint to be put right (Persian Letters 159). Here,
Montesquieu shows not only subject s suffering at the despots cruel hand, but also stresses the
intrinsic instability of a despotic government.
This case is made even more explicitly in The Spirit of the Laws. In Book III, for instance,
Montesquieu ascribes a fundamental principle to each of the three types of government he outlines.
But while Montesquieu names virtue as the principle of a republican government and honor as the
principle of a monarchical government, the despotic system is given the fundamental principle of
fear (Spirit of the Laws bk. III, ch. 9, par. 1), easily the least noble of the three.
By contrast, Montesquieu does not make his distaste for the republican system nearly as overt. In
his discussion of the history of republics, the character Rhedi writes of the ancient Greek republics,
Love of freedom and hatred of kings preserved Greek independence for a long time, and extended
republican government to distant parts (Persian Letters 233), which suggests Montesquieu, through
Rhedi, feels the system has some merit insofar as it allowed the Greeks to thrive.
Even in the context of acknowledging the good the republican system has done

The Advantages Of Major League Baseball Salary Cap
There are five major sports leagues in the United States; Major League Baseball, Major League
Soccer, the National Basketball Association (which has what is known as a soft salary cap), the
National Football League, and the National Hockey League. Of these five, only baseball lacks
what is known as a salary cap. A salary cap is the upper limit of the combined salaries for a team
s players. In the other four sports I mentioned, having to work within the boundaries of a salary
cap is a balancing act, to gain an advantage at one position requires you to be at a disadvantage at
another position. For example, to have a top tier quarterback in the NFL like Tom Brady or Aaron
Rodgers and the large salary they command, a team might lack the funds to sign a top tier
linebacker or cornerback. With Major League Baseballlacking a salary cap, this balancing act
vanishes and teams could sign anyone and everyone they wished. This causes a competitive
imbalance that is hurting the sport. Too often we see the same teams making the playoffs and
winning championships like the San... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Teams with large payrolls routinely win at a higher rate than teams who cannot afford to spend
the massive amounts of money other teams do. For example, in the last fifteen years the New
York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers, two teams which regularly are among the highest
spending teams in baseball, won on average 94.7 and 86.8 games respectively. By comparison,
the San Diego Padres and the Kansas City Royals, two teams who are not able to compete
financially with teams with deeper pockets, won an average of 77.1 and 71.6 games respectively
in that same time span (Major League Baseball). This disparity in season wins is a direct cause of
Major League Baseball s lack of a salary cap. Over the course of a 162 game season, teams with
higher payrolls, and therefore better talent on their roster, will prevail more often than

  • 2. Animal Ethics Peter Singer nor does man any moral obligation to consider the interests of these animals. In light of this, one must question Cohen s moral motivations. If it is scientifically proven that caring for animals in a humane manner is absolutely vital to the survival of our own kind, what motives must a man who denies the legitimacy of this necessity have for humanity? It is one thing to make the claim that in certain circumstances, it is vital that humans use animals as a resource, but Cohen goes even further to blatantly disregard animal s ability to suffer, and he denies all rights of animals due to their lack of capacity for free moral judgment (Pojman and Vaughn 817). Cohen also proudly proclaims himself a speciesist , meaning that he openly values... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Singer notes how all discrimination is unseen at some point until the prejudice is forcefully pointed out; that each person should be willing to exam their most basic, accepted values and criticize our most fundamental values (Pojman and Vaughn 802). Taking this approach, Singer continues to question the morality of killing and using animals as a commodity. Singer considers the ideas discussed earlier, that this determination does not depend so much on the capabilities of animals, but rather, their sentience. Singer states that the questions is not can they reason, nor can they talk, but, can they suffer? This idea captures the vital element that Cohen chooses to overlook. The key commonality between humans and animals is that we both can experience pain and suffering, and both would rather avoid it. Cohen not only disregards the environmentally harmful effects of his side of the argument, but he also considers power to be his prime reasoning for considering animals to be inferior. He acknowledges animal s sentient ability, but due to their lack of what he deems intelligent capability and moral choice, he sees this as something simply to be accepted as part of the relationship between humans and ... • 3. Mutual Relationships With Mutual Relationship There is a lot of different opinions when it comes to having a mutual relationship with a male and female without it being anything more. Many believe that this is not right because they feel as though that no man and woman could possibly be friends without any feelings involved in the relationship. This view is often associated with the person who has a significant other that has a close friend that is of the opposite sex. Others who have friends that are of the opposite sex feel as though nothing is wrong with it because they are used to it. I feel as though this topic is rooted to the fact that it is only for the people that are mature, it is important for people on both sides to be mature and have clear intentions with both the friend... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, people argue that a heterosexual male and female couldn t be friends because it often ends with them starting a relationship even if they were friends with the person while they had a significant other. I have also seen this happen where a friend of mines was friends with a girl that had a boyfriend and he also had a girlfriend but now they were so close that their friendship has turned into a relationship. I feel as though if everyone knows the other persons intention it will be less difficult, even though sometimes their intentions often change. Communicating with a person of the opposite sex about how you feel emotionally often helps because something you would not feel comfortable with just venting to the same sex. Although men seem strong and nothing ever phases them it is important to have a friend for emotional support. Often men go through things that hit them emotionally and it is better to have a female to vent to rather than another male. This is shown when someone loses a family or a tragic situation of that sort, sure your buddies can give you a word of encouragement but to tell someone how you feel deep down inside it is helpful to have a female to talk to. Often women are more comfortable to talk to than a guy about something a male is going through on an emotional level. Emotionally, females feel as though men create a safer environment because often times it is hard for them to trust their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As you look at the advertisement, your eyes will automatically detect the picture of the corpse of an Albatross bird on hard concrete and its open abdomen. As a substitute to intestines, stray objects that are thrown out by humans take place inside its stomach. A lighter, a few bottle caps, and other plastic objects was consumed by the bird and caused its death. Rather than the rubbish being in the trash, it is instead inside the bird who innocently mistook the items for food. Since the background is black and the Albatross feathers are similar, they both blend together. This feature gives focus on the junk inside its stomach that can be easily spotted. On the bottom right corner of the advertisement, the logo for Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT) is seen, which builds the credibility of the maker of the advert. The purpose of the print ad is to spread awareness throughout mankind, and EWT is doing their part of protecting wildlife from facing extinction. • 9. Women in Art Essay Women in Art Throughout history many artistic works have been deemed great and many individuals have been labeled masters of the discipline. The question of who creates art and how is it to be classified as great or greater than another has commonly been addressed by scholars and historians. The last quarter of the 20th century has reexamined these questions based on the assertions that no women artists have ever created or been appreciated to the level of greatness that perpetually befalls their male counterparts. The position that society has institutionalized on women as unable to be anything but subordinate and unexpressive is a major contributor to this claim. On top of that, only 4% of museum acquisitions are of work by women artists (Strawter). The study of why women artists have systematically been erased from history and why currently the exhibition of women s art is not valued as much as the male artists continues. There have been many theories behind the eradication of women artists from history. At the beginning of the Women s Liberation Movement, an art historian by the name of Linda Nochlin published an article called, Why have there been no great women artists? In here article, she addressed her own question offering one of the first consciously feminist challenges to the established canons of art history. Her query proved to be a rallying cry for women artists in the fervent days of the Women s Liberation movement and offered fragments of a manifesto to women artists, and others, intent on reexamining and ultimately restructuring the discipline (Morse, 1992). Nochlin argues that contemporary feminists contend that there is a different greatness between men s art and women s art. This view of art undermines the general discipline. It categorizes its value in order to give it a higher classification among gender. Many women are trying to delve back into history and recapture any trace of artistic women in order to document and arrange their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Bradley states that a Shakespearean tragedy has to be the story of the hero and there is exceptional suffering and calamity slowly being worn in. Also, the current time must be contrasted to happier times. The play also depicts the troubled parts in the hero s life and eventually he dies instantaneously because of the suffering and calamity. There is the feeling of fear in the play as well, that makes men see how blind they are not knowing when fortune or something else would be on them. The hero must be of a high status on the chain and the hero must also possess a tragic flaw that initiates the tragedy.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Due to this flaw, Lear has given way to the two older daughters to conspire against him. Lear is finally thrown out of his daughters homes and left with a fool, a servant and a beggar. This is when Lear realizes the mistake that he has made and suffers the banishment of his two eldest daughters. Lear is caught in a storm and begins to lose his sanity because he can not bear the treatment of his two daughters as well as the error he has made with Cordelia and Kent. Lear also suffers from lack of rest when he is moving all over the place and the thing that breaks him is the death of his youngest daughter, Cordelia. This suffering can be contrasted with other happier times like when Lear was still king and when he was not banished by his two daughters. The feeling of fear is when Lear is in the storm raging against the gods, I tax not you, you elements, with unkindness. I never gave you kingdom, called you children, you owe me no subscription (act #, scene #, line #), telling them to rage harder since he has not done anything for them and that he didn t deserve what he has received from his two daughters. The fear is how Lear in a short period of time went from king to just a regular peasant and from strong and prideful to weak and unconfident. This shows that men do not ... Colour in film is very important, it can change the mood of the film, influence viewers emotions as they watch, can be used as symbolism and can even teach the viewer in a very short time to expect something to happen when a certain colour is shown. The Director of Fight club and other films such as Se7en and the Girl with the Dragon tattoo, David Fincher is very well known for working closely with the cinematographer and his post production team to tightly control the colour in his films and being quite innovative in his techniques to achieve better quality of colour and control over his films. David Fincher, the director of Fight Club is well known for the certain look of his films as he has developed his own signature style, sometimes called reality enhanced as his style is natural lighting but in a new almost HD way. He uses techniques such as LED lighting, the films are dark and dank but colourful at the same time. As a usual template it seems he de saturates the picture then depending on the mood of the scene he warms up or cools off the image often times he uses blue in the shadows to add depth and to retain the crisp blackness and teal to the highlights this shows a strong understanding of how colours work together. • 12. Advantages Of Reciprocating Compressors 1.Introduction A Reciprocating compressor or piston compressor is a positive displacement compressor that uses pistons driven by a crankshaft to deliver gases at high pressure. All compressor types have a clearance volume that contains gas at the discharge pressure at the end of the discharge process. This volume may be small in some designs and significant in others. Reciprocating compressors may have a large clearance volume, but recover the work done on this gas by expanding it back to suction pressure in the cylinder. Reciprocating air compressors use positive displacement, which generates air pressure via two sides that provide either suction or discharge. Positive displacement is suitable for compressing small amounts of air at high... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This will either move it to the second phase of compression or the final one, depending on the nature of your compressor. Compressing air generates heat that limits the oxygen content of the air , thus reducing its density. Cooling the air essentially acts as a simple method for allowing denser and more oxygen rich air to be again used by the engine, which in turn provides more fuel and improves the power output when the air compressor is working with a combustion engine. Intercoolers are essential for two reasons. First, they cool the air down to a proper temperature to designed to remove moisture and water from the air. You will typically see this filter listed as a moisture trap. After the air is cooled, it s returned to your compressor for additional compressing. 5.4 Second, Higher Pressure Compression The air will move back into the main chamber of your air compressor or the second chamber ,depending on its design and will be further compressed by a high pressure element. You either need to have a certified public accountant help you do them or a specialized tax program to walk you through it. Not only that, but the costs associated with having someone prepare your taxes or buying the specialized computer program needed to navigate the myriad of entangled tax codes and laws can become quite expensive. Unfortunately, due to those stipulations imposed upon the panel, they were limited in what they could recommend. Even in today s environment, in a news article by Fox Business, President Trump has recently talked about a major tax reform. Unfortunately, all of these reforms are simply trying to patch up the current income tax system when what is really needed is a complete replacement to a new tax system. One of the better alternative tax systems being proposed is the National Retail Sales Tax (NRST), also known as the FairTax. She inspires others to never conform to society s norms and to always follow your dreams, no matter the consequences or struggles. This is a valuable lesson to be aware of and to follow in today s harsh society, particularly with the new rise of evil gossiping and criticism. Ariel is also pictured as a real life hero when she risks her own safety and life to save Prince Eric, a stranger she merely just meet and gawked over, from a shipwreck. Not only did she risk her life and safety, but she also knew that her father would not approve of this and be awfully angry. Unlike general mermaids, Ariel was brave and caring, so she was willing to risk her life and safety for a stranger, and a human, their enemy at that. This inspires others to always be kind and to help those in need, no matter the circumstances, because you never know when you may be in their footsteps. For example, in the end of this motion picture, Eric returns the favor by risking his life to save Ariel from the evil and now ginormous Ursula. This is an example of how good things come in return to those who remain caring and help others. Overall, Ariel is an inspiring character to follow or swim in her tail fins. Management Alternatives For Replacing Human Workforce Essay Management Alternatives to Replacing Human Workforce Management Alternatives to Replacing Human Workforce Uta Batts Fayetteville Technical Community College BUS 137 0001 FA Principles of Management Prof. Ray Walters November 14, 2016 Management Alternatives to Replacing Human Workforce Abstract In today s workforce, there is a silent fear lurking amongst blue and white collar workers alike. There is a worldwide threat of machines beating people out of jobs that many have invested time and money to acquire. As leaders and positions of management we are the soothsayers to those masses. What can we as leaders be prepared to do to satiate the worried minds of the ones that depend on the existence of these positions? Would it be more detrimental or beneficial to society to reduce the human workforce and put so many bodies out of work? • 18. Technology Is Not Good For Students In todays society technology is becoming more popular in our school systems, and even in our workforce. Many people may argue that technology is not good for students, but I disagree. Technology in the classroom is very important for students not only for their social, or learning lives but also when they get into the workforce. If students learn technologyin their early years they will not have a difficult time when they enter the workforce to find that there is a lot of technology being used. Since the first affordable personal computer came out in the 1980 s technology has had a big impact on children in the K 12 grade classroom. As technology has become more reliable and more available in schools the role of the teacher has changed. When a teacher has knowledge in technology, teachers are able to teach students to become successful learners in the 21st century, which will allow them to find, seek, and assimilate data from multiple sources. As we all know education does not stop in the K 12 grade classroom or even at the college level. In todays society students continue to educate themselves even if they are not in the classroom. With students continuing to educate themselves it helps them prepare to self teach in order to be competitive in the 21st century job force (Molnar). Many of us may see that there are many careers out there that require an individual to have education in technology. Since technology is increasing more and more not only in our environment but ... • 19. Analysis Of The Slow Paced spring Summer Winter Spring... Few words are spoken in Kim Ki duk s Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring. Yet much is expressed regarding humankind s relationship with nature. The slow paced, contemplative movie explores key Buddhist principles, including rebirth and meditation, through the life of an apprentice monk. Laden with heavy symbolism, as seen in the use of the seasons, animals, architecture, medicine and punishment, the film deeply considers people s connection to their environment, stressing in particular the importance of both inner and outer harmony. Seasons The seasons are likely the most notable motif of the film, which progresses through them as they match the stages of the Apprentice s life. As the once young man presumably returns towards the end to replace his old master, the wheel of life turns again. The beautiful cinematography, featuring long shots of the surrounding landscape, captures the breathtaking beauty of the area as the seasons change. By enriching the movie with these scenes, rather than focusing on just the plot, Kim invites the viewer to appreciate the setting s beauty, allowing time for reflection on both the story and the cyclical tendencies of nature and life. Following the seasons through the Apprentice s life reflects a cycle of rebirth that is an integral part of Buddhist teachings. Animals More subtly, animals also play a significant role in each stage of the Apprentice s life. Like the seasons, one creature matches up with the Apprentice during each phase ... The concern with the current slow growth of the Fed Funds Rate is that there is a similar pattern as there was prior to the decline in 2008, where inflation tanked and the Fed Funds Rate, which was high at 4.24% was not enough to halt the inflation drop. The similar pattern in inflation and the Fed Funds Rate can be seen in the two graphs below. If the Federal Open Market Committee does not increase the rate of the growing Fed Funds Rate within the next few quarters the likeliness of another recession increases. Although it would not be as extensively damaging as the recession in 2008, a recession would be nonetheless detrimental to the economy, as we would be set back in all the economical progress that has been made in the past 10 years, as shown in the graphs above. Currently, the Federal Reserve has set the rate to rest at a target range of 1 to 1 1/4 percent. The Federal Open Market Committee acknowledged in their November meeting that inflation has more headway to make until it is at the two percent mark they have set as a long term target. This situation contains both positive and negative elements. Spirituals are really the most characteristic product of the race genius as yet in America. Indeed, in the pure Spirituals one can trace the broken fragments of an evangelical folk liturgy, with confession, exhortation, mourning, conversion and love feast rejoicing as the general stages of a Protestant folk mass. It is not a question of religious content or allusion, for the great majority of the Negro songs have this more delicate question of caliber of feeling and type of folk use. The distinctiveness of the Spirituals after all and their finest meaning resides in their musical elements. • 31. The Effects Of Contaminated Water On Human Life Researchers have been studying the causes and effects of contaminated water on human life. Water is to be considered a major and important resource on the planet, but it can also be a major health risk towards human life especially on young children. Young children are more vulnerable to diseases because their immune systems are experiencing everything for the first time. These health risks can include diarrhea, dental fluorosis, or toxicant. Diarrhea can be life threatening due to fluid loss. In 1998, diarrhea was estimated to have killed 2.2 million people, most of whom were under 5 years of age (WHO, 2000). It is more common when there is a shortage of clean water for drinking. Dental fluorosis is a defect of the teeth marked by the increased porosity of the enamel. The longer one has dental fluorosis the more their teeth begin to rotten and crumble. The water sources that can be contaminated are ponds, lakes, seas, oceans, or reservoirs. All these sources are what we use for drinking and bathing. But having clean water cannot be achieved everywhere. Africa, especially, has a poor water quality. Africa does not have the resources for clean water like the United States does. In my opinion, coach Boone had many leadership strengths: He had his goal to make the team a winning team, and to do that he knew he would have to overcome many obstacles, to make the players a real team and a group of players. To do that, he needed the capacity to motivate the team, to push them harder to achieve the goals, to make them expect more from themselves and their teammates. For me, one of the best moments that showed coach Boone was a very good leader was when he Boone woke up all the players in the evening and made them run with him. He didn t just order them to do something he knew was difficult. He did it with them. He had self sacrificed for the team. Coach Yoast, went to tell him that he was pushing them too hard, but Boone knew exactly what he was doing. When he stopped the running, and gave the speech about the differences and what that had as result, I think that speech changed the attitude between the players. The area is packed with igneous exposures from columnar basalts, Precambrian basement rock, granitic ring complexes, volcanic ejecta, to mantle xenoliths. Together, these features provide insight into the overall geology of the region, indicating that this terrain was once an active nested caldera complex (multitude of calderas within calderas). The highly silicic nature of these rocks indicates that calderas formed from the collapsing of rhyolitic dome structures, which sometimes in geologic literature is referred to as super volcanoes. The super volcanoes here are thought to have formed, the way many calderas do, by a subsurface pluton pushing its way up into the crust and erupting. Once the plutonic material erupts, the land subsides and the central part of the once outstretched region becomes a crater, which is termed caldera. In the case of the St. Francois Mountains and the highly silicic volcanics that are found in the region the plutonic source is potentially granitic in nature. Giacomo Galli s Saint Mary Magdalene was painted in the early seventeenth century in Italy, at the beginning of the Baroqueera. By contorting Magdalene s body, bathing her in light and encompassing her in darkness, Galli was able to present the viewer with an image representative of her divided identity. Galli likely chose to paint the Magdalene because she was one of the most popular saints in Baroque Italy. As Susan Haskins (author of Mary Magdalen: Myth and Metaphor) notes, from the thirteenth century, the penitent Magdalene became the most popular image of the saint in Italy, as the perfect example of a reformed sinner. Magdalene s ______ demonstrated a realistic path of personal improvement. Her reputation, at the time, revolved around her supposed past as a prostitute. Historically, this meant that she was cured of a physical ailment and not of prostitution. However, as it was believed that Magdalene s transformation from prostitute to apostle made her accessible to the Catholic community, the church exemplified this notion in order to make Magdalene a suitable role model for repentance. In the military, there is a cord extending from Pentagon level leadership to down range command. This cord is an articulation of myriad rules and regulations that are not vulnerable to managerial whimsy or subject to the next new best managementpractice being promulgated in Ivy League business schools as the enlightened way forward. This is not to say that military management cannot or does not access the rich store of contemporary management theory. Rather, it is a validation of the place reasoned change has in the military machination. For military management practices to be revised, there must be a clear cut advantage to capacity and force development. • 39. Similarities Between Johnson And Clinton Impeachments This assignment asks us to compare and contrast the impeachment proceedings of Presidents Andrew Johnson, Richard Nixon and William Clinton, while identifying the ethical dilemmas presented by each. In addition, students are to categorize the ethical violations of each President by severity and discuss whether the actions by the Senate were politically motivated or ethical. The initial similarity obviously lies in the fact that these three gentlemen belong to a very small club of which they are the only members; Presidents who have been impeached. President Clinton underwent impeachment proceedings but was not impeached, those who brought impeachment proceedings were unable to muster enough votes to formally impeach him. President Andrew Johnson also underwent impeachment proceedings but again, those who sought to discredit him were also unable to muster the needed votes, so he too remained in office. President Nixon resigned before he was ousted. An examination of why each of the three were impeached will give us a better understanding of the political climate of the respective times and why Presidents Clinton and Johnson were able to remain in office when President Nixon was forced out. According to History Place.com, Andrew Johnson was a self educated man of humble origin... With Grease being a phenomenal musical, FOX decided to perform a live version back in 2016, 38 years after the original musical. There was many difference in both versions due to one being a movie and the other a live performance. It is one of kind, which lead to many people arguing that the original is better. Factors that contribute to the debate are the cast, songs, and set design. All in all, people respect the live version because it is hard to pull off in one take. The characters in the two cast were portrayed similarity. Sandy Olsson stood out to me the most because in the live version she is not from Australia instead of Ohio, which means she would not have an accent. • 41. Nuclear Waste Is The Substance That Nuclear Fuel Nuclear waste is the substance that nuclear fuel becomes after it has been used in a reactor. Although the metal rods appear unchanged after their use, the material inside has changed greatly. Before it was used to produce power, the fuel mainly consisted of uranium. In order to create heat energy in the reactor, U235 undergoes fission. Fission is a nuclear reaction in which the nucleus of an atom splits into smaller parts. As a result of this, there is a chain reaction which creates heat. The control rods control the fission rate and the temperature. In the steam generator, the heat and cooling water create pressured steam which moves the turbine. The turbine creates energy that goes into a generator which gives off electricity. The water from the turbine is able to become usable since it gets cooled. Once a reactor reaches its lifetime, it becomes spent fuel and is treated as waste. Most countries bury the spent fuel or reuse it. In the U.S., we haven t decided what to do with the spent fuel so most of the spent fuel rods are stored in temporary storage pools. In the future, the United States plans to bury the waste in the Yucca Mountains which are located in Nevada. This would be a suitable place since it is not close to humans or the environment. For the first part of the lab we had to go on Blackboard and open the Spent Fuel document. We had to go to Appendix III which had some text and a chart about how much spent fuel has been accumulated by each state. The years ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Falling test scores and rising dropout rates provoked a movement for reform. Ray Budde pointed out many restrictions set by state governments that inhibited the potential of many students and how these restrictions were damaging the educational system rather than maintaining it. So many different people have their opinions on how people should use their guns or where they can and can t carry them. They have this misconception that guns are such a big problem and that they kill people, but in reality guns are not the problem at all it is the people holding them. Even though guns can be dangerous, guns are used for good more than bad. Getting a conceal carry permit is something that has very precise steps to follow in order to obtain it. You are required to be at least 21 years of age. If for some reason you are ineligible to purchase a firearmthen you are no longer able to get the permit to conceal a handgun. A person that has been convicted of a violent misdemeanor or drunkenness in the last three years will be rejected if applied for a conceal carry permit. As you can see a lot goes into obtaining the permit to be able to conceal a handgun. After a very thorough background check gets cleared for the applicant the court may require proof that the applicant can demonstrate competence with a handgun. This includes: completion of a firearm training course offered by the NRA, the state, or school (Virginia Gun Laws). Also a lot more goes into it. Now, as Ember and Ember explain in the text, in order to deal with violence within families, we must first decide on what should be classified as abuse and what is not (Ember Ember, pg. 230). The word abuse can have various definitions across cultures, as not everyone thinks of it in the same way. To some, hitting a child is a perfectly acceptable form of punishment and of wife beating can be seen in a male dominating household as a necessary act to keep a spouse in check. I personally believe that abuse can be defined as the repeatedly cruel or violent treatment of someone, mainly intended to do harm against that person. I believe that in order to combat this problem, there is a few main actions that can be done that can at least reduce the amount of family violencewe see throughout cultures. For one, people need to acknowledge that family violence, both domestic violenceand child abuseis real and exists throughout countless societies and communities. The second is to realize that family violence is not a necessary behavior and can actually have long lasting and damaging effects on the people we love the most. The third action is to educate people in alternative ways they can deal with their family members without having to resort to violence. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention published an article which explains that food commercials are one of the major components of advertising and they are leading to an increase in health and weight problems in children. In addition to this, psychologists such as Sandra L. Calvert have discovered that commercials give children a distorted sense of reality and can lead to personality conflicts. Parents and scientists alike have found that advertisements also can cause self esteem issues in young people, and this is a major concern. In conclusion, the negative effects of advertisingon children are alarming. Commercials advertising food are everywhere, and they are causing problems in children s eating habits. An article published by the National Center for Biotechnology Information stated that food marketingtowards children promotes mostly foods that are nutrient poor and contain lots of calories. Here, Montesquieu shows not only subject s suffering at the despots cruel hand, but also stresses the intrinsic instability of a despotic government. This case is made even more explicitly in The Spirit of the Laws. In Book III, for instance, Montesquieu ascribes a fundamental principle to each of the three types of government he outlines. But while Montesquieu names virtue as the principle of a republican government and honor as the principle of a monarchical government, the despotic system is given the fundamental principle of fear (Spirit of the Laws bk. III, ch. 9, par. 1), easily the least noble of the three. By contrast, Montesquieu does not make his distaste for the republican system nearly as overt. In his discussion of the history of republics, the character Rhedi writes of the ancient Greek republics, Love of freedom and hatred of kings preserved Greek independence for a long time, and extended republican government to distant parts (Persian Letters 233), which suggests Montesquieu, through Rhedi, feels the system has some merit insofar as it allowed the Greeks to thrive. The Advantages Of Major League Baseball Salary Cap There are five major sports leagues in the United States; Major League Baseball, Major League Soccer, the National Basketball Association (which has what is known as a soft salary cap), the National Football League, and the National Hockey League. Of these five, only baseball lacks what is known as a salary cap. A salary cap is the upper limit of the combined salaries for a team s players. In the other four sports I mentioned, having to work within the boundaries of a salary cap is a balancing act, to gain an advantage at one position requires you to be at a disadvantage at another position. For example, to have a top tier quarterback in the NFL like Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers and the large salary they command, a team might lack the funds to sign a top tier linebacker or cornerback.
