Physics Form 5 KSSM, Activity 4.6:Factor affecting magnitude of induced current.
Inference The magnitude of induced current depends on the height of the magnet.
Hypothesis The higher the height, the greater the induced current.
Aim To investigate the relationship between magnitude of the induced current and
height of the magnet.
Variables Manipulated variable: height, h of the magnet
Responding variable : magnitude of the induced current, I
Constant variable : number of turns of the coil
List of
apparatus
and materials
Milliammeter, cardboard tube, insulated copper wire, metre rule, bar magnet
and retort stand.
Arrangement
of the
apparatus
Procedure 1. The apparatus is set up as shown in the diagram with winding an
insulated copper wire round a cardboard tube by 50 turns.
2. The height of bar magnet is adjusted at h = 10.0 cm.
3. The bar magnet is dropped vertically into the coil of wire. The maximum
reading of miliammeter, I is recorded.
4. The experiment is repeated for h = 20.0 cm, 30.0 cm, 40.0 cm and 50.0
cm.
5. All the data are recorded and tabulated.
6. A graph of I against h is plotted.
