2. The text book
On my magazine cover I edited the textbook.
The reason why I chose to do this is because I
got feedback from my teacher and fellow
students stating that the image on the front
cover of the text book made them pay less
attention to the model on my cover image.
Another aspect of the textbook which I did not
particularly like was the orange block of cover
highlighting the title of the book. The reason
for this is because it clashed with the colour of
the models headscarf, resulting in the image
not to have a clear colour scheme.

3. Changing the colour
To change the orange colour of the text book I clicked on the image layer.
I then clicked on the magic wand tool
From there I selected the orange part of the text book. I made sure I only got the parts
which I wanted to change, so no letters or other aspects of the book got
decoloured.

clicking that, a colour pallet
came up for me to choose a
colour.

4. After I selected a colour, I pressed
Alt and then backspace. This process
allowed me to change the colour of
that selected area on the textbook.
As you can see there were some
blanks so I then zoomed into the
image then re selected the magic
wand to fill in the gaps.
When deciding what colour to use I wanted to see how the heading of the textbook would look like if it were the same colour
as the headscarf on my cover image model. To test this out I clicked this tool
Then clicked on the headscarf. By doing this Photoshop selected the colour and then I was able to use the same previous steps
to make the selected area the same colour as the scarf.
I didn't like how it turned out
because I felt that the two
merged together and there
was too much of the same
colour, so if I used it for my
colour scheme it would be an
excessive amount of it on my
cover .

5. Removing the image
To get rid of the image on the text
book I used the wand tool and
selected the image on the textbook.
After I selected the area I need I
pressed the delete key on my
keyboard. This resulted in it to turn
white.

Continuing from that I selected the eyedropper tool. I used this to click
onto the blue on the textbook. I did this so the shade of blue would be
the exact one as the one of the cover. I then pressed Alt and then
backspace. Then the white became blue.

6. Lighting levels
I wanted to change the lighting in the image to see if there would be a difference in how I and other would view the cover image.
To change this I pressed Alt then ‘L’. The image on the right is the image before I
changed anything and the image of the left is the one I changed.
To change the input levels I simply dragged the small arrows to different areas of the
scale. I played around with that till I was happy with how it all turned out.

7. I like the colour I have chosen , it is a warm purple colour, I feel that it looks nice against the pink in
her scarf. Its darker that the pink but it still works well with it. I feel that it is a good colour
because it does not stand out as much as the orange before, so it does not draw as much
attention off of the cover model and the cover lines. By selecting the purple it has also abled me
to create a clear consistent colour scheme which doesn't clash with the rest of the image within
my magazine. By getting rid of the image on the text book I feel that it again does not take the
attention off of the model and it makes the magazine more clear and less jumbled. By changing
the lighting levels the black clothing which the model is wearing is more deeper, this makes her
stand out more resulting in more attention being placed on her.
