period through the early 1900s.
5. What questions does this photograph raise? Why the women are cooking? Why they are
wearing dressier clothes to cook?

7. What could you do to find more information about this photograph? You could research at
what period of time women spent the majority of their time within the household.
8. Based on what you have observed list 3 things you might infer from the photograph. I would
infer that the women are all probably married cooking for their husbands, none of them have

photographer was trying to show how Hitler could be perceived in a more positive light.
4. Why is this photograph important to history? It reveals the other side to Hitler, despite what
everyone knows to be true about him in regards to the killings of citizens.

people see Hitler differently before the Holocaust?

Hitler as a good person at this point in time. The picture probably takes place before the
Holocaust even started.
Picture 3

the officers look like they are going to fight. They are on a street with the lines on the road and
trees in the background.

was trying to portray violence towards citizens in a particular time period. The photographer was
trying to show what African Americans went through during the Civil Rights Movement
4. Why is this photograph important to history? It could explain the difference of races from the
past. It gives us insight on the oppression and what law enforcement did to these citizens
5. What questions does this photograph raise? Why do the officers have search dogs? When was
the photo taken and where was it taken? Who are the African Americans pictured?
6. Write your own caption for the photograph: A Time of Struggle
7. What could you do to find more information about this photograph? You could research
information about officers and violence in regards to African Americans
8. Based on what you have observed list 3 things you might infer from the photograph. I would
infer that the dogs in the photograph don't care for what they are being forced to do, the people
watching are confused by the officers, and the officers are angry about something.
Picture 4
1. Who are the people in the photograph? A man hanging by his neck

3. What message do you think the photographer was trying to convey? Give me liberty or give
me death.
4. Why is this photograph important to history? It probably created tension within the
community due to the fact that the man appears to be African American. It was probably used as
a way of advertising and persuasion in a type of newspaper or magazine.
5. What questions does this photograph raise? Who is the man in the photo? Why is the statue of
liberty hanging someone? When was this photo created? Why was this photo Created? Who
created it?
6. Write your own caption for the photograph: Give me liberty or give me death
7. What could you do to find more information about this photograph? Look up the statue of

and that the statue could relate to the government.
