The photographer was trying to convey the bondage of family working together.

To show how different is was then and what is now and the beginning of kitchen appliances.

Neighbors and family gather in the kitchen to use the new kitchen appliances. 
What could you do to find more information about this photograph? 
Research the 1950s when kitchen appliances started to be used more.

1- They are cooking. 
2- They are working together. 
3- They are using electric appliances which is a transition between the old and the new.
Who are the people in the photograph? 
The people in the photograph are a young boy, Hitler and a few older women sitting in the background. The boy 
and Hitler are the main focal point of the photograph. Hitler’s face is very recognizable and that’s how we know 
it is him. 
What is the situation of the people in the photograph? Provide evidence from the photo 
that tells you this. 
The situation is Hitler going around and shaking peoples hands, including the boys who seems very interested in 
him. The women look on in approval. This was probably comforting but to Americans it would seem 
frightening. 
What message do you think the photographer was trying to convey? 
The photographer was trying to convey that Hitler even wanted young people on his side to support his cause 
and the shaking of the boys hand shows that he has gotten just that. Hitler bribe little kids to be on his side by 
being friendly and kind to hide the negatives of Hitler’s ruling.

It is important to history because the Holocaust was such a huge event in history and saving documents like 
these help prove to those who do not believe that the Holocaust is real and not a conspiracy.

Who is the boy? Where are they in this photograph? Why is he there?

1-Hitler was trying to get anyone and everyone to follow him. 
2-There were people supporting him 
3-Shaking the hand of a child makes him look like a nice guy so he probably wanted this picture taken on 
purpose.
• Who are the people in the photograph? I believe that the people in the photograph is a commander and a 
soldier. 
• What is the situation of the people in the photograph? Provide evidence from the photo that tells you this. 
I believe that it is the time of WW1 and the commander is checking the soldiers for illnesses. I’m lead to 
believe this because there are multiple men standing in the room and the one is standing in from of the 
commander and he is observing him. 
• What message do you think the photographer was trying to convey? I think that the photographer was 
showing what the soldiers had to go through at the time. 
• Why is this photograph important to history? It is important because it shows what the men when through 
while it was going on. 
• What questions does this photograph raise? This photograph makes you wonder what exactly was going 
on and what they were looking for.

• What could you do to find more information about this photograph? You could look up WW1. 
3 things you might infer from the photograph- it was around the time of the war. There was some kind of 
illness going around. It was early 1900’s because of the black and white.
Who are the people in the photograph? In this picture is the Statue of Liberty that mainly stands for mutual 
friendship between nations and freedom from oppression. Now, what looks likes a person hung from the Statue 
of Liberty seems as if would stand for that person had did something wrong. 
What is the situation of the people in the photograph? Provide evidence from the photo 
that tells you this. One situation you could suggest from this photo is maybe this man was not treated fairly 
with freedom and committed suicide on what is suppose to be the symbol of freedom. 
What message do you think the photographer was trying to convey? I think the photographer was trying to 
convey that what is suppose to be equality is not really equality. 
Why is this photograph important to history? This photograph is very significant to American history 
because of segregation issues and the unfairness with discrimination that some people were treated so badly that 
some committed suicide. 
What questions does this photograph raise? Was this a suicide or a murder?

What could you do to find more information about this photograph? I could look more into the American 
history and segregation.

1- I would infer this picture had something to do with the Jim Crow Law. 
2- The man in the picture is African american. 
3- The man in the picture committed suicide.
Who are the people in the photograph? 
- The people in the photograph represents the wave of immigrants coming to the United States during the 
various waves from England and other European countries. 
What is the situation of the people in the photograph? Provide evidence from the photo 
that tells you this. 
- The people in the photograph are most likely going to have all of their possessions nearby as they are 
about ready to begin the hard task of life in the U.S. The evidence that is presented to backup this fact is 
the people’s clothes and the way they are starring at the Statue of Liberty. They are looking at it as if 
they are relieved to see it after the long journey to the U.S. 
What message do you think the photographer was trying to convey? 
- I think that the photographer was trying to show how the people arriving were filled with extreme 
emotions as they see the symbol for freedom in the Americas.

- The photograph shows that people from other cultures and ethnic groups had to work hard to get where 
they are today and that without them this country could be a completely different place.

o What country did the immigrants come from? 
o How long were they on the boat? 
o What made them come to America?

-The tears of the blessed.

-We could have looked up the exact time frame of the photo and tried to determine the origin of the travelers.

1- The people in the photograph are a family, based on the distance between the people. 
2- The style of clothing on the women leads me to belive that they are from somewhere around Gremany, 
based on the scarf. 
3- It was the childs first time seeing the staue of Liberty, due to his fingers pointing in the staues direction.

It seems the cops are letting the dog attack a black man.

To show what was going on with racism.

The civil rights movement was a very important part of history.

  • 1. Who are the people in the photograph? A family of women in the 1950s What is the situation of the people in the photograph? Provide evidence from the photo that tells you this. The women are cooking with kitchen appliances that are becoming more used in the 1950s. What message do you think the photographer was trying to convey? The photographer was trying to convey the bondage of family working together. Why is this photograph important to history? To show how different is was then and what is now and the beginning of kitchen appliances. What questions does this photograph raise? What are they cooking and what is the status of the family? Write your own caption for the photograph: Neighbors and family gather in the kitchen to use the new kitchen appliances. What could you do to find more information about this photograph? Research the 1950s when kitchen appliances started to be used more. Based on what you have observed list 3 things you might infer from the photograph 1- They are cooking. 2- They are working together. 3- They are using electric appliances which is a transition between the old and the new.
  • 2. Who are the people in the photograph? The people in the photograph are a young boy, Hitler and a few older women sitting in the background. The boy and Hitler are the main focal point of the photograph. Hitler’s face is very recognizable and that’s how we know it is him. What is the situation of the people in the photograph? Provide evidence from the photo that tells you this. The situation is Hitler going around and shaking peoples hands, including the boys who seems very interested in him. The women look on in approval. This was probably comforting but to Americans it would seem frightening. What message do you think the photographer was trying to convey? The photographer was trying to convey that Hitler even wanted young people on his side to support his cause and the shaking of the boys hand shows that he has gotten just that. Hitler bribe little kids to be on his side by being friendly and kind to hide the negatives of Hitler’s ruling. Why is this photograph important to history? It is important to history because the Holocaust was such a huge event in history and saving documents like these help prove to those who do not believe that the Holocaust is real and not a conspiracy. I’m lead to believe this because there are multiple men standing in the room and the one is standing in from of the commander and he is observing him. • What message do you think the photographer was trying to convey? I think that the photographer was showing what the soldiers had to go through at the time. • Why is this photograph important to history? It is important because it shows what the men when through while it was going on. • What questions does this photograph raise? You could look up WW1. 3 things you might infer from the photograph- it was around the time of the war. There was some kind of illness going around. It was early 1900’s because of the black and white.

This photograph is very significant to American history because of segregation issues and the unfairness with discrimination that some people were treated so badly that some committed suicide. Why is this photograph important to history? - The photograph shows that people from other cultures and ethnic groups had to work hard to get where they are today and that without them this country could be a completely different place. What could you do to find more information about this photograph? -We could have looked up the exact time frame of the photo and tried to determine the origin of the travelers.
