The origins of Judaism can be traced back to Abraham, who was one of the first monotheists. He believed in one God and migrated his family from Mesopotamia to Palestine at God's command. His descendants established the religion of Judaism, the world's first monotheistic faith, which teaches moral and ethical rules through texts like the Ten Commandments.
Phoenicia was an ancient civilization in Canaan which covered most of the western, coastal part of the fertile Crescent. Several major Phoenician cities were built on the coastline of the Mediterranean. It was an enterprising maritime trading culture that spread across the Mediterranean from 1550 BCE to 300 BCE.

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers.
