Borosilicate glass is best for pharmaceutical use due to its properties. It has high melting temperature and thermal shock resistance making it suitable for parenteral and chemical preparations. Other types of pharmaceutical glass include treated soda lime glass used for blood, plasma and infusions due to its alkali resistance. Soda lime glass has very low melting temperature making it the cheapest but only suitable for non-aqueous preparations. Glass composition, properties and uses vary between the different pharmaceutical glass types.
