Salem Witch Theory Of Ergotism
In 1692, people started doing strange behaviors such as convulsing uncontrollably, or crying in fear
from a terrifying hallucination such as something dark and scary in their chimney. Due to the lack of
medical knowledge at that time, the citizens automatically assumed it was witchcraft and out of panic,
the Salem Witch Trials began. However, with advanced medical scientific experts around today, the
theory that actual witchcraft was a thing has been dropped. What remains a mystery is What was the
real cause of the strange behaviors? . The only thing that is certain is that it was not witchcraft. Even
though the reasons behind the strange behaviors is unknown, there are many theories. One of them is
the ergot poisoning theory. Ergot poisoning (also known as ergotism) comes from a fungus called
Claviceps purpurea. This harmful fungus often sprouts up around grains such as rye; and a lot of bread
is made from rye or wheat. Since bread was eaten a lot in Salem Massachusetts, this philosophy does
have some valid points. The symptoms of ergot poisoning match what the supposed victims of
witchcraft had as well; creating another supporting point to this theory. However, this philosophy also
has some questionable considerations as well such as the fact that animals used for meat could have
given the people alkoid poisoning from eating the fungus or the grains that it touched; or the fact some
scientists also say that the people of Salem Massachusetts were too healthy to have a

Dance Team Philosophies
Since I have been in this class I have gotten the opportunity to hear about many different directing
styles and team philosophies. This semester I got a chance to listen to Abby Payne, Tracey Anderson,
and Kellie Jackson Jandt. From listening to their experiences and drawing back on my own
experiences I have learned a lot about how I would want to lead my team. Abby Payne at Lake Travis
High School claims her team is all about the show. They do football, contest, and spring show but
spring show is the team s favorite. One thing that seemed unique about her team is that they devote an
entire group or the Elite team to preparing the dancers who want to dance collegiately. This is a great
idea when you are in an area like Lake Travis because those dancers work hard in both academics and
dance so they are more likely to attend prestigious schools that have excellent dance teams. It is a
wonderful that Abby is taking steps to set them up for success in their future. Another thing that is
interesting to me is that Abby encourages them to be in other organizations and to involve themselves
in other things besides dance team so they can build their resumes. From my experience a lot of
directors prefer their dancers keep the dance team as the number one priority and to not make too
many other time commitments that take away from their devotion to the team. It s very generous of
Abby to allow the kids to take these opportunities to further prepare them for their future. The thing

Ethical Leadership Models
Leaders that demonstrate a commitment to behaving in an ethical manner are viewed as trustworthy
and subordinates gravitate toward them. Ethical leaders have a foundational belief in honesty and
trustworthiness and disseminating these principles throughout the organization. This paper will present
ethical leadership models as tools for merging diverse cultures into the existing organizational culture.
An overview of which leadership models, styles, and traits are most commonly accepted as ethical
across the greatest array of social cultures will be discussed. The paper will culminate with a selection
of a particular leadership model as a tool for shaping organizational culture and the rationale for
selecting that model.
Authentic leadership Leaders who demonstrate authenticity when leading multinational organizations
are called authentic leaders (Johansson, Miller Hamrin, 2014). Their central premise is to build
relationships with subordinates of diverse cultures. Valuing subordinate input and building trust on
ethical principles is the foundation upon which the organization is built. Authentic leadership
promotes tolerance and objectivity in building trust and transparency that bridge the levels of
management. Subordinates are allowed to take ownership of their work assignments with enthusiasm

Creation Myth And Orion Essay
My favorite constellation would have to be Orion. I chose this because I ve always thought it would be
cool to be shooting down starry prey while soaring among the stars. Orion is a hunter. He is forever in
the stars hunting down meals and criminals. To me, Orion seemed like a tough guy. He s by himself in
the stars, waiting for someone or something to come his way and end his seemingly endless lonely
universe. That s why I chose Orion and a little information on this great hunter. Now the creation
myth. This is the version I heard. Orion was the first male in Artemis s sisterhood. He helped them
hunt both prey and enemies, as a friend. As you might know, Artemis had sworn off marriage and any
other affairs with men. Yet, despite ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Orion was one of the males trying to court Artemis. He was a hunter, so that was in his favor. She
accepted him, but only as a friend. She warned him that if he tried to marry her, than she would fight
him until he was out of sight. He agreed, but couldn t help liking her. After all, who wouldn t like her?
Artemis was a feisty, strong hunter, and so was he. They were perfect for each other. Or so he thought.
A few months later, he asked for her hand in marriage, and she refused. Furious and heartbroken,
Orion challenged her to a fight. If he won, she would marry him. If she won, he would be out of her
sights and gone for good. The fight lasted for days. Each of them fought brilliantly, suffering minimal
injuries. Then, on the third day, Artemis took out Orion s eye. After that, Orion fought poorly,
misaiming and throwing himself off balance. Finally, on the seventh day, he surrendered. He stumbled
away from Artemis s camp, and came upon Hephaestus. Hephaestus ended the hunter s pain, healing
his wounds and giving him a laser eye to replace his long gone other. In conclusion, I think no other
constellation could compare with Orion and his wonderful, yet gruesome, creation

Why I Am A Scientist
Live the life you ve imagined , wrote on cover page of my notebook gave by my mentor Dr. Xu. When
I was six, I witnessed my aunt suffering from serious rheumatoid arthritis and nobody even know why
it happened. I imagined one day I can be a scientist to find out the causes for all those brutal diseases
and fight against them. This compass navigates my career path and leads me to where I am right now,
a biology student in University of Kansas. My professional journey started at 2007, my freshman year
in Wuhan University, a top ranked biology program in China. I and my teammates were catching
turbellarian all over the campus trying to find out the secrets of tissue regeneration. After that, I
initiated a project to isolate bacteria strains from soil to reduce phosphorus in water and prohibit blue
algae caused by pesticide in river and lake, which got me funded by WU undergraduate research fund
in 2008. These small adventures helped me to explore my capabilities and build confidence about
doing research. However I also realized that to make a difference in human health, passion is one
hand, knowledge is the other. To better prepare myself for a future in biology scientific research, I
joined Dr. Guo s lab in WU which focused on human skeletal development in 2009 and quickly found
the question that I care about and willing to answer: how cancer happened? Specifically, I was
interested in studying gene post transcriptional regulation networks in cancer. I chose to study

Literary Analysis Of Emily Dickinson s Water Is Taught By...
Emily Dickinson is a well respected poet from the New England area. Although she was not
recognized during her lifetime, the close to 1,800 poems are well known to people who study
American Literature. One of her poems, Water, is Taught by Thirst , conveys the message of
appreciating what you have instead of waiting for it to disappear by taking a closer look at the poem
and evaluating the lines, people can connect to the message by looking at a few things they appreciate
in life.
By evaluating Water, is Taught by Thirst the reader can have a broader understanding of the theme,
appreciate what you have before they vanish before you realize it. Such as the second line, Dickinson
mentions land, by the oceans passed which I interpreted as the absence of land. This also means she
sees the land as a home, shelter, a place to rest and re energize. To her this is very dear, she loved to
stay isolated and frankly it is necessary to have somewhere to call home and relax the mind to let the
thoughts flow. Also in line 4, the writer talks about appreciating peace. Line 4 of the poem says Peace
by its battles told , I interpret this such as we miss and understand peace in the middle of battle, war,
conflict, and beef. Only during times of need does someone ever truly appreciate something.
In reflecting on my life and on the concept of appreciation, I can relate because of my appreciation for
the things I have in my life. One of the many things I appreciate is my little chihuahua, he is brown
with a hint of gold. His attitude is not always the best, like sometimes he will ignore me, but for the
most part he is obedient. He is practically family or even more than that. It s hard but it s as if he is an
extension or piece of me. Another thing I appreciate but can sometimes lose sight of is my parents,
they love me a lot and there are times I forget that they are human beings and they have their own
problems. I forget what they have been through, I remember the struggle they had to overcome just for
me to ask every day to borrow their car because mine was messed up. The amount of self sacrifice
they achieved is unfathomable.my parents will never let me go to work without money, even though I

happened during the depression due to soil erosion caused by abandoned farms and the soil which was

Bubonic Plague Research Paper
Bubonic plague is an infectious disease that is spread by the bacteria Yersinia pestis. These bacteria
remain in a dormant state primarily in a rat flea s foregut. Once the flea has bitten a victim it
regurgitates the contents in its foregut into the bite location. Once the bacterium has entered into a
mammal s warm body it begins to reproduce and spread throughout the mammal s body. The
reproduction of this bacterium creates large painful swollen lymph nodes which are called buboes.
Once these buboes get large enough they begin to ooze infected body fluid so that any contact
between an infected person and a healthy person will facilitate the spread of this disease. (The Mayo

It was believed in the middle ages that this disease was caused by poor hygiene, bad eating habits,
corrupted humid air, and a lack of rest. Once a person was thought to be infected the doctors would
move them to a non infected area thinking that this would heal the persons illness instead this
transported the disease even further than normal. In modern times we have made leaps and bounds to
control this illness. One of the main problems of the plague is that it is not treatable until the victim
gets tested and confirmed that the plague is the illness. Once that is done they will start receiving high
doxycycline doses and many other types of antibiotics. The mortality rate for someone that is not
treated is 50 90% compared to treated cases of 1 15%.
The bubonic plague has been around for almost two thousand years. In most early cases the plague
was spread from China along the Silk Road. The Silk Road was the over land trade route from the
orient that silk, spices, and other trade able goods from the east to western Europe. In most cases rats
carrying the Oriental Rat Flea or another animal carrying the flea would move to a new location. Once
that animal died the flea would move to another host which could be a human. Once bitten by the flea
a bubo begins to form when the bubo begins to ooze fluid the illness can then be passed through
touch. As stated above in the Middle

Economic Effects Of The Great Depression
Economic Fallout
On October 29, 1929, Black Tuesday, the United States of America s stock market crashed causing the
Great Depression. The Great Depression of the 1930 s greatly impacted millions of people s lives
around the world. The Depression caused millions of people to lose their homes, jobs and food for
their families. The events causing, during, and after the Great Depression will forever be an important
part of American History that will never be forgotten.
The events that leading up to and caused the Depression date all the way back to World War I. After a
small economic downfall after the First World War, the economy began to boom in 1924 . The United
States economy boomed until 1929 and was at an all time high in 1928 due to the lowering of taxes .
One of the many reasons that caused the Great Depression was an overproduction of goods. During
World War, the consumption of goods was unbelievably high. When the war ended the United States
did not slow down on production and eventually had too much product for the demand. With the
numbers of products being sold, no one needed to buy anything because they had already stocked up
on everything needed. A Second reason for the Great Depression was the lack of foreign trade around
the world. In 1930, President Herbert Hoover passed the Smoot Hawley Tariff Act . The Act increased
Tariffs to such a high rate, that no countries would trade with the United States . International trade
has fallen by two thirds since

Examples Of Perseverance In The Call Of The Wild
Perseverance is the will to keep fighting and give it your all even through the most difficult
circumstances. In Jack London s book, The Call Of The Wild, the main character learns to keep going
even when the going gets tough. One of the main themes of this book was to keep going and never
lose hope. Buck, the main character, is a dog who is part St. Bernard and part Scotch Shepherd dog.
He is brought into an adventure which little does he know, will seem to never end and as he goes
through this adventure, there will be a multitude of challenges ahead including starvation, exhaustion,
and the freezing temperatures.
Part of perseverance is staying alive. Survival of the fittest is the best example of this because when
Buck gets kidnapped from his easy life at the estate and then thrown into different environments and
situations like becoming part of a dogsled group, he adapts and survives. When Buck first started out,
he was just another dog who was near the top of the pack, but was not at the top. A dog named Spitz
was at the top, always had been, and it seemed as if he always would be. Spitz despised Buck and vise
versa. They did not get along and disagreed on almost everything. One day; however, Buck and Spitz
got into a fight like any other dog. The stakes at which dogs fought were that winner gets to stay alive

Hunger Vs Hunger
Indeed, being homeless is dire, but hunger can kill. In the United States, hunger is not as serious as
other countries. Starvation in America is not major, if it exists. An article explains hunger in the
United States, Today more than ever, many people receive food assistance. For most, the need is brief
and serves as a helping hand between jobs or in times of disaster or dire circumstances. For others, the
need is ongoing ( What ). Although hungry people subsist, help for them is available. This article also
explains what hunger typically looks like in America, Being anxious for a meal to be served, rushing
food lines, eating all their food at mealtimes, extreme hunger on Monday mornings, extreme thinness
or puffy, swollen skin, excess absences, hyperactive, irritable, anxious, withdrawn, distressed, . . .
sickness, . . . and lack of food resources ( What ). Starvation and hunger have two different meanings.
Hungry people don t get enough to eat, but starving people are burning more energy than they take in.
Starving people have little to no food all of the time, and are slowly wasting away. Few people, if any,
are starving in America. Malnutrition is a result of being hungry. Malnutrition means someone is not
getting enough proper nutrition. As of 2017, 190.7 million people, or 14.5 percent of the population in
India are malnourished. Undernourishment in children has serious effects. In 2017, 38.4 percent of

Global Business Barriers
Global business is defined as the buying and selling of goods and services by people from different
countries (McWilliams Williams 2010). It also has to do with international trade and trade agreements.
Corporations that own businesses in two or more countries are called multinational corporations
(McWilliams Williams 2010). Most of these global businesses main headquarters are found in the
United States or the United Kingdom. Expanding to a global market is quite a complex process and
businesses have to take many different aspects into account such as: social/cultural, legal, political,
economic, environmental and technological factors. These components help create an attractive
business climate. Different businesses operate differently to assess these relevant factors. Strict Import
export rules and regulations also need to be followed. Entering the global market also allows for larger
competition between other similar businesses and to create trade agreements. There are many rules
and regulations when entering into the global market and with each country having different
requirements you must fulfil. These must be followed or the business cannot enter into business in that
country. Global businesses have trade barriers, which are government imposed regulations that
increase the cost and restrict the number of imported goods (McWilliams Williams 2010). Different
types of trade barriers include tariff and also non tariff barriers such as: quotas, voluntary

Different Theories of Motivation
Introduction
Motivation is a reason or set or reasons for engaging in a particular behavior, especially human
behavior as studied in psychology and neuropsychology. The reasons may include basic needs (e.g.,
food, water, shelter) or an object, goal, state of being, or ideal that is desirable, which may or may not
be viewed as positive, such as seeking a state of being in which pain is absent. The motivation for a
behavior may also be attributed to less apparent reasons such as altruism or morality.
Advantages of Motivation
A positive motivation philosophy and practice should improve productivity, quality and service.
Motivation helps people to:

achieve goals

gain a positive perspective

(See also Goal Theory.)In work environments, money is typically viewed as an important goal (having
food, clothes etc.) may well be more powerful than the direct motivation provided by an enjoyable
workplace.
Coercion
The most obvious form of motivation is coercion, where the avoidance of pain or other negative
consequences has an immediate effect. Extreme use of coercion is considered slavery. While coercion
is considered morally reprehensible in many philosophies, it is widely practiced on prisoners, students
in mandatory schooling, within the nuclear family unit (on children), and in the form of conscription.
Critics of modern capitalism charge that without social safety networks, wage slavery is inevitable.
However, many capitalists such as Ayn Rand have been very vocal against coercion
[citation needed]
. Successful coercion sometimes can take priority over other types of motivation. Self coercion is
rarely substantially negative (typically only negative in the sense that it avoids a positive, such as
undergoing an expensive dinner or a period of relaxation), however it is interesting in that it illustrates
how lower levels of motivation may be sometimes tweaked to satisfy higher ones.
Self control
The self control of motivation is increasingly understood as a subset of emotional intelligence; a
person may be highly intelligent according to a more conservative definition (as measured by many
intelligence tests), yet

How Does King Lear s Play Relate To Shakespeare
Fatima Mossolem
In Samuel Johnson s essay Preface to Shakespeare he asserts that Shakespeare s writing is a mirror of
manners and of life, which in laymans terms means that Shakespeare writes the truth about life, even
when it is seen as unpleasant. This proves to be true even today, over a hundred years since King Lear
was written. One of the meanings of the work as a whole in King Lear is that loyalty doesn t always
have to be born of blood. We see this mostly with Kent, Lear s faithful servant, who stayed by Lear s
side no matter the situation. Nature is also another meaning of the work as a whole. When related to
Kent the question of nature is whether or not he is loyal to his king, and without compare he is. In my
life now I have found that the best of friends will be more loyal and kind to you then the closest of
families, proving that the stories and characters Shakespeare created can be paralleled in the modern
world. Although one could claim that the events that occur in Shakespeare s plays are nothing more
than fiction, it is obvious from both the characters and the plot that Shakespeare s work The first
words Kent spoke in this play were Good my liege (pg 15). The first time Kent is seen in the play he is
trying to convince Lear to rethink his decision about banishing Cordelia. Lear takes this as a challenge
and of course banishes Kent as well. Kent then chooses to come back and work for Lear in disguise.
This was the first glimpse of Kent s character,

Analysis Of Grace Paley s Life And Experiences Of Men And...
The author, Grace Paley, constructs short stories that illustrate the lives and experiences of men and
women living in New York City. This individual account captures the experiences of two Jewish
immigrants in the community where she was raised. Anxiety has a protagonist character that shows
apprehension about the probable destruction of the world. She confronts people that roam the street to
warn them about the danger they face and how to protect society. The panicky narrator, with anxiety,
tries to conserve society, therefore she alerts strangers of their wrongdoings, questions their actions,
and gives them advice.
The narrator s anxiety arises against the two men for the actions they display to their children; which
is our future generation. The lady and the two fathers have distinct views on how the children should
be treated. One father places his daughter from his shoulders to the ground roughly after she makes
him angry. Let s not go too far, said the young father. We could get depressed. She WAS jumping
around on my poor back and hollering Oink, oink the father pleaded with the aged lady (Paley 833).
Her concern is the father should not roughly place his child upon the ground like he did, but the
fathers have a diverse assumption on it. In the father s eyes, his actions were acceptable for the actions
of his daughter s movements on his shoulders. The father felt his actions would prevent the daughter
from demonstrating behavior like that anymore.

Animal Cruelty Persuasive Speech
Did you know that under the Criminal Code of Canada under Section 445.1(1) any person who
willfully causes or as owner permits unnecessary pain, suffering or injury to an animal is held
accountable. You should listen to my speech because it will explain to you why you should stand up
against animal cruelty. I will try to persuade you with logic and you can make up your mind after
listening. I believe we should side against animal cruelty because animals suffer serious bodily harm
from the abuse, animals cannot defend themselves and people who commit animal cruelty usually
commit acts of violence against humans. We should stop this so we can stop people from accepting
and ignoring these atrocities as part of our culture.

30% of children who see violence of the domestic kind display violence against the pets that they
own. This statistic shows that if children are willing to attack animals than they are clearly physically
superior to the animals that are abused. These animals cannot defend themselves like paralyzed people
cannot defend themselves against able humans. It is a true cruelty and you should stand against it.
Third, abuse to animals is linked to criminal activities. Robert K Ressler, who has developed many
profiles for serial killers for the FBI said, Murderers ... very often start out by killing and torturing
animals as kids, (Ressler, Animal Abuse and Human Abuse: Partners in Crime). This is true as a lot of
serial killers experiment on their animals first. For example, Albert deSalvo, also known as the Boston
strangler, killed 13 women. When he was a child he used to shoot dogs and cats which he had trapped
with arrows. A serial killer named Jeffrey Dahmer used to impale cats, dogs and frogs heads onto
sticks. Dennis Rader, the BTK killer from Kansas, was found to have hanged a cat as well as a dog
during his youth. Lee Boyd Malvo, a teenager who shot 10 people through the use of a rifle, was
suspected of killing many cats with a slingshot at the age of

Business Strategy
EA¡¦s current strategy is to focus on franchise and sports related games that develop loyal followings
and repeat sales. They use a unique multi lingual/multi platform approach to producing and
distributing games around the world. The company¡¦s three main differentiators are their internal
sports culture, ability to localize games, and international distribution.
Functional Strategies
Product strategy: EA¡¦s product strategy is based on the franchise model. 70% of their sales consist of
new releases of previous hits. They also seek to be toward the cutting edge of technological
innovation. Sales strategy: The company¡¦s current sales strategy is to use their field sales
representatives and call centers to sell their games to over 80,000 retailers. Internationally EA has
strong sales in Europe with a relatively weak representation in Asia. Their strategy in that arena is to
spread the fixed costs of producing a game over as many different sales channels as possible.
Marketing Strategy: Sustain leadership status in industry by simultaneously promoting popular EA
game titles and releasing localized multi lingual games on several platforms. EA Sports VP is

How Is Hitler A Victim Of Post-War Propaganda
The Myth dispeller
Is Hitler a victim of post war propaganda; why has the term Nazi become a term of abuse and was
Hitler really a racist?
Myth #1 Propaganda in the west
Hitler was not averse to treading on people s toes and the biggest toes he trod on are those of the Jews.
Like others before him, he stemmed the tide of European Jewry, but failed to conquer worldwide
Zionism, especially in the U.S. The legacy he left behind him and especially his final testament still
echo s today. Centuries will pass away, but out of the ruins of our towns and monuments the hatred
against those finally responsible whom we have to thank for everything, international Jewry and its
helpers, will grow.
It took only two post war decades for the Jews ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Hitler s SS, over a third originated from foreign nations, including a Muslim Handschar division,
Indians, Arabs and a Russian Vlasov RLA. This was whilst the blacks in the U.S. armed forces were
still segregated, and twenty years before the UK, who still had signs in guesthouses in the 1960 s
which read No Irish, dogs or blacks.
Hitler believed in the superiority of races and distinctions amongst them, not racism which is a dislike
of colour. The Second World War German army was the most ethnically diverse in history. Hitler
simply believed in the separation of races and the total exclusion of the Jews. The white supremacy
label then is a recent add on, designed to evoke feelings of racialism amongst a dumbed down and
largely ignorant population. Six million, Oi veh! It is all designed to mislead and misinform!
I firmly believe that in times to come, probably not in our lifetime, the west will again awake and view
Hitler as a man ahead of his time, a prophet. The Jews are a clever and manipulative race, but their
downfall, repeated throughout history, is that their genetic inheritance and a racial predisposition for
wealth, deception and control, means that they are destined to repeat the same mistakes, which led
Hitler to embark on a National Socialist

Numerical Analysis Using Sofistik Software
CHAPTER FIVE: Numerical analysis using SOFISTIK software
5.1. Introduction:
In chapter 2, literatures of concrete modelling have been reviewed. The scope of this chapter is to
describe the finite element software SOFISTIK to simulate the nonlinear behavior of the foam balls
lightweight concrete. The results from this numerical technique are presented and validated with the
experimental results obtained from the laboratory tests. The results obtained from these experimental
and numerical investigations are taken to predict the nonlinear behavior of 150x150x150 mm FBLWC
cube. The damage plasticity concrete concept is used to model the foam balls lightweight concrete
cube in the SOFISTIK. Meanwhile, a spring elements are considered to reproduce the nonlinear
FBLWC behavior. They are taken into account to develop the F.E.M. structural analysis to obtain
stress strain responses.
5.1.1. Finite element method:
The finite element method is a numerical technique that has been successfully adopted to study special
cases where, for instance, stress strain distribution is required. In the past, due to the complexity of the
problems, it was difficult to describe them in the same manner because they took much time and
effort. However, the development and the use of sophisticated software have now improved this
situation. (Zienhiewicz, 1977)
The F.E.M. concept is then applied to simulate the performance of the experimental FBLWC tested at
laboratory. The numerical evaluations are

Should Chris Brown Be Allowed To Enter Australia Essay
Should Chris Brown be allowed to enter Australia?
Recently there has been lots of controversy regarding whether or not Chris Brown should be granted a
visa pass to enter Australia for his One Hell of a Nite tour in December. Chris should be granted a visa
due to the fact that he is a changed man and has proven himself to his family, friends and fans.
Chris Brown should be granted a visa pass for many reasons, one being him announcing that if he
were to enter the country he would like to use his past experience to raise awareness about the issue. I
would be more than grateful to come to Australia to raise awareness about domestic violence, he
tweeted. I m not the pink elephant in the room anymore . He has even been pleading his case on
Twitter. By him saying he is willing to raise awareness for domestic violence it is showing everyone
how serious he is about this issue.
It is obvious that what Chris did was wrong and he knows and admits it. Chris was on probation for 5
years, completed 1 year of domestic violence counselling and 6 months of community service, he has

differential effect of environment on willingness of adoption of solar lighting system which confirms
the previous studies. A common tendency among rural consumer is to collect the information

A Reflection On Public Service
As students of Masters of Public Service degrees, it is imperative to develop a holistic and deep
understanding of what public service means. Our class discussions have shown us the ambiguity of
striking a balance between opposing forces: between intention and outcome, aid and empowerment,
intrinsic and extrinsic affirmation, and self interest and altruism. How do we balance these
perspectives, when each has its benefits and pitfalls to the success of any project? In determining my
own definition of public service, my hope is to elucidate factors that optimize each of these
perspectives. In doing so, we can come closer to defining public service in a way that is both
operationally useful and ethically guiding. Considering course documents and class discussions, I
have defined the phrase as follows:
The public is a marginalized body unable or unexpected to monetarily repay servants for provided
goods. Service is an act that results in improved quality of life as reported by receiving individuals.
Therefore public service is defined by (1) actions resulting (2) in goods that improve quality of life (3)
as reported by marginalized recipients (4) who are unable or unexpected to monetarily repay the
servant.
By fragmenting the definition into four parts, I can address the issues of intention versus outcome, aid
versus empowerment, intrinsic versus extrinsic affirmation, and self interest versus altruism in public
service. Applying the Formula of Universal Law

The Dolphin Is A Breed Of Dolphin

endangered subspecies (1). On the North West coast of the North Island in New Zealand (between

normally found in groups of approximately 1 to 5 dolphins within about 5 nautical miles of the shore.
(2). Maui s dolphin is the smallest breed of dolphins; they range in size from approximately 1.2 1.7m
and weigh roughly around 50kg (3)(4). Majority of the dolphin is coloured a light grey (back and
sides), whilst having a white brush of colour along the sides of its body. They have an identifiable
dorsal fin as it is more rounded compared to most dolphin fins that are sickle shaped (5)(6). They feed
on small fish such as squid, flatfish, and cod, therefore not making too big an impact on the food
chain. Over the recent years Maui dolphins have declined in numbers from approximately 150 in
2004, down to 55 Maui s Dolphin observed in 2012 (7)(8). According to A risk assessment of threats

population decline rate of 2.8% per year, these statistics were taken between the years of 2001 and

Reasons Why Student Athletes Should Not Be Paid For...
Division 1 and Division 2 colleges provide over 2.9 billion dollars a year in scholarships to student
athletes. Student athletes should not be compensated for participating in college sports. College
athletes can receive full ride scholarships for playing their sport of choice. Is the 40,000 dollars they
are receiving in scholarships not compensation; thus prompting the question is the top tier education
they are being provided with, not compensation enough? Most of the thousands of students that
participate in college sports compete for the love of the game, not for a paycheck. Furthermore,
college athletes understand that they may not compete at the pro level, in fact, only 2 % of college
athletes go on to play professionally. The main part of the term student athletes is student. Students do
not go to college expecting a check at the end of every month or to land a spot in the first round of the
draft, instead the purpose is to receive an education. All things considered, student athletes should not
receive compensation for playing sports in college because it would be almost financially impossible,
some are already provided with money from scholarships , and finally they are being provided with an
excellent higher education.
Some say colleges should pay athletes because it s a full time job, scholarships aren t enough, not all
players get scholarships or because the NCAA and universities make money off of the sports teams
and players. A big reason the controversy came

Questions on Crime
Crime Analysis 1. When reviewing these incident summaries, what type of analysis are you
performing, tactical, strategic, or administrative, and why? From the information provided, it would
seem necessary that tactical and strategic analysis would be required in order to determine the course
of events and the ways in which the investigation should be performed. By utilizing the psychological
techniques which are accessible to the police department, it is quite possible to analyze the past events
and determine what may or may not continue to occur in the future until the individuals responsible
for the crimes are apprehended. 2. Is this a crime series? Why, or why not? It would seem that this
may be a crime series, because there are characteristics in the three crimes which overlap. However,
there are also instances in each case which differ from one another and thus the case should be
investigated as a potential series but the analysts should not overlook the possibility that these are
unrelated, coincidental crimes. 3. Were there any clues that may help establish the identity of either of
the suspects? There are some clues which could help identify the suspects in the case. Specifically,
there were the masks, the clothing, and most importantly the tattoo which was observed in the third
robbery of the man with a tattoo of a bleeding spider on his skin, which was ascertained to be white,
making the man most likely Caucasian. 4. What elements of the modus operandi

Salem Witch TheoryOf Ergotism In 1692, people started doing strange behaviors such as convulsing uncontrollably, or crying in fear from a terrifying hallucination such as something dark and scary in their chimney. Due to the lack of medical knowledge at that time, the citizens automatically assumed it was witchcraft and out of panic, the Salem Witch Trials began. However, with advanced medical scientific experts around today, the theory that actual witchcraft was a thing has been dropped. What remains a mystery is What was the real cause of the strange behaviors? . The only thing that is certain is that it was not witchcraft. Even though the reasons behind the strange behaviors is unknown, there are many theories. One of them is the ergot poisoning theory. Ergot poisoning (also known as ergotism) comes from a fungus called Claviceps purpurea. This harmful fungus often sprouts up around grains such as rye; and a lot of bread is made from rye or wheat. Since bread was eaten a lot in Salem Massachusetts, this philosophy does have some valid points. The symptoms of ergot poisoning match what the supposed victims of witchcraft had as well; creating another supporting point to this theory. However, this philosophy also has some questionable considerations as well such as the fact that animals used for meat could have given the people alkoid poisoning from eating the fungus or the grains that it touched; or the fact some scientists also say that the people of Salem Massachusetts were too healthy to have a ... Dance Team Philosophies SinceI have been in this class I have gotten the opportunity to hear about many different directing styles and team philosophies. This semester I got a chance to listen to Abby Payne, Tracey Anderson, and Kellie Jackson Jandt. From listening to their experiences and drawing back on my own experiences I have learned a lot about how I would want to lead my team. Abby Payne at Lake Travis High School claims her team is all about the show. They do football, contest, and spring show but spring show is the team s favorite. One thing that seemed unique about her team is that they devote an entire group or the Elite team to preparing the dancers who want to dance collegiately. This is a great idea when you are in an area like Lake Travis because those dancers work hard in both academics and dance so they are more likely to attend prestigious schools that have excellent dance teams. It is a wonderful that Abby is taking steps to set them up for success in their future. Another thing that is interesting to me is that Abby encourages them to be in other organizations and to involve themselves in other things besides dance team so they can build their resumes. From my experience a lot of directors prefer their dancers keep the dance team as the number one priority and to not make too many other time commitments that take away from their devotion to the team. It s very generous of Abby to allow the kids to take these opportunities to further prepare them for their future. The thing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I imagined one day I can be a scientist to find out the causes for all those brutal diseases and fight against them. This compass navigates my career path and leads me to where I am right now, a biology student in University of Kansas. My professional journey started at 2007, my freshman year in Wuhan University, a top ranked biology program in China. I and my teammates were catching turbellarian all over the campus trying to find out the secrets of tissue regeneration. After that, I initiated a project to isolate bacteria strains from soil to reduce phosphorus in water and prohibit blue algae caused by pesticide in river and lake, which got me funded by WU undergraduate research fund in 2008. These small adventures helped me to explore my capabilities and build confidence about doing research. However I also realized that to make a difference in human health, passion is one hand, knowledge is the other. To better prepare myself for a future in biology scientific research, I joined Dr. Guo s lab in WU which focused on human skeletal development in 2009 and quickly found the question that I care about and willing to answer: how cancer happened? Specifically, I was interested in studying gene post transcriptional regulation networks in cancer. I chose to study ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Literary Analysis OfEmily Dickinson s Water Is Taught By... Emily Dickinson is a well respected poet from the New England area. Although she was not recognized during her lifetime, the close to 1,800 poems are well known to people who study American Literature. One of her poems, Water, is Taught by Thirst , conveys the message of appreciating what you have instead of waiting for it to disappear by taking a closer look at the poem and evaluating the lines, people can connect to the message by looking at a few things they appreciate in life. By evaluating Water, is Taught by Thirst the reader can have a broader understanding of the theme, appreciate what you have before they vanish before you realize it. Such as the second line, Dickinson mentions land, by the oceans passed which I interpreted as the absence of land. This also means she sees the land as a home, shelter, a place to rest and re energize. To her this is very dear, she loved to stay isolated and frankly it is necessary to have somewhere to call home and relax the mind to let the thoughts flow. Also in line 4, the writer talks about appreciating peace. Line 4 of the poem says Peace by its battles told , I interpret this such as we miss and understand peace in the middle of battle, war, conflict, and beef. Only during times of need does someone ever truly appreciate something. In reflecting on my life and on the concept of appreciation, I can relate because of my appreciation for the things I have in my life. One of the many things I appreciate is my little chihuahua, he is brown with a hint of gold. His attitude is not always the best, like sometimes he will ignore me, but for the most part he is obedient. He is practically family or even more than that. It s hard but it s as if he is an extension or piece of me. Another thing I appreciate but can sometimes lose sight of is my parents, they love me a lot and there are times I forget that they are human beings and they have their own problems. I forget what they have been through, I remember the struggle they had to overcome just for me to ask every day to borrow their car because mine was messed up. The amount of self sacrifice they achieved is unfathomable.my parents will never let me go to work without money, even though I got paid and burned my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Bubonic Plague ResearchPaper Bubonic plague is an infectious disease that is spread by the bacteria Yersinia pestis. These bacteria remain in a dormant state primarily in a rat flea s foregut. Once the flea has bitten a victim it regurgitates the contents in its foregut into the bite location. Once the bacterium has entered into a mammal s warm body it begins to reproduce and spread throughout the mammal s body. The reproduction of this bacterium creates large painful swollen lymph nodes which are called buboes. Once these buboes get large enough they begin to ooze infected body fluid so that any contact between an infected person and a healthy person will facilitate the spread of this disease. (The Mayo Clinic Staff, 2012) It was believed in the middle ages that this disease was caused by poor hygiene, bad eating habits, corrupted humid air, and a lack of rest. Once a person was thought to be infected the doctors would move them to a non infected area thinking that this would heal the persons illness instead this transported the disease even further than normal. In modern times we have made leaps and bounds to control this illness. One of the main problems of the plague is that it is not treatable until the victim gets tested and confirmed that the plague is the illness. Once that is done they will start receiving high doxycycline doses and many other types of antibiotics. The mortality rate for someone that is not treated is 50 90% compared to treated cases of 1 15%. The bubonic plague has been around for almost two thousand years. In most early cases the plague was spread from China along the Silk Road. The Silk Road was the over land trade route from the orient that silk, spices, and other trade able goods from the east to western Europe. In most cases rats carrying the Oriental Rat Flea or another animal carrying the flea would move to a new location. Once that animal died the flea would move to another host which could be a human. Once bitten by the flea a bubo begins to form when the bubo begins to ooze fluid the illness can then be passed through touch. As stated above in the Middle ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Economic Effects OfThe Great Depression Economic Fallout On October 29, 1929, Black Tuesday, the United States of America s stock market crashed causing the Great Depression. The Great Depression of the 1930 s greatly impacted millions of people s lives around the world. The Depression caused millions of people to lose their homes, jobs and food for their families. The events causing, during, and after the Great Depression will forever be an important part of American History that will never be forgotten. The events that leading up to and caused the Depression date all the way back to World War I. After a small economic downfall after the First World War, the economy began to boom in 1924 . The United States economy boomed until 1929 and was at an all time high in 1928 due to the lowering of taxes . One of the many reasons that caused the Great Depression was an overproduction of goods. During World War, the consumption of goods was unbelievably high. When the war ended the United States did not slow down on production and eventually had too much product for the demand. With the numbers of products being sold, no one needed to buy anything because they had already stocked up on everything needed. A Second reason for the Great Depression was the lack of foreign trade around the world. In 1930, President Herbert Hoover passed the Smoot Hawley Tariff Act . The Act increased Tariffs to such a high rate, that no countries would trade with the United States . International trade has fallen by two thirds since ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Examples Of PerseveranceIn The Call Of The Wild Perseverance is the will to keep fighting and give it your all even through the most difficult circumstances. In Jack London s book, The Call Of The Wild, the main character learns to keep going even when the going gets tough. One of the main themes of this book was to keep going and never lose hope. Buck, the main character, is a dog who is part St. Bernard and part Scotch Shepherd dog. He is brought into an adventure which little does he know, will seem to never end and as he goes through this adventure, there will be a multitude of challenges ahead including starvation, exhaustion, and the freezing temperatures. Part of perseverance is staying alive. Survival of the fittest is the best example of this because when Buck gets kidnapped from his easy life at the estate and then thrown into different environments and situations like becoming part of a dogsled group, he adapts and survives. When Buck first started out, he was just another dog who was near the top of the pack, but was not at the top. A dog named Spitz was at the top, always had been, and it seemed as if he always would be. Spitz despised Buck and vise versa. They did not get along and disagreed on almost everything. Hunger Vs Hunger Indeed, being homeless is dire, but hunger can kill. In the United States, hunger is not as serious as other countries. Starvation in America is not major, if it exists. An article explains hunger in the United States, Today more than ever, many people receive food assistance. For most, the need is brief and serves as a helping hand between jobs or in times of disaster or dire circumstances. For others, the need is ongoing ( What ). Although hungry people subsist, help for them is available. This article also explains what hunger typically looks like in America, Being anxious for a meal to be served, rushing food lines, eating all their food at mealtimes, extreme hunger on Monday mornings, extreme thinness or puffy, swollen skin, excess absences, hyperactive, irritable, anxious, withdrawn, distressed, . . . sickness, . . . and lack of food resources ( What ). Starvation and hunger have two different meanings. Hungry people don t get enough to eat, but starving people are burning more energy than they take in. Starving people have little to no food all of the time, and are slowly wasting away. Few people, if any, are starving in America. Malnutrition is a result of being hungry. Malnutrition means someone is not getting enough proper nutrition. As of 2017, 190.7 million people, or 14.5 percent of the population in India are malnourished. Global Business Barriers Globalbusiness is defined as the buying and selling of goods and services by people from different countries (McWilliams Williams 2010). It also has to do with international trade and trade agreements. Corporations that own businesses in two or more countries are called multinational corporations (McWilliams Williams 2010). Most of these global businesses main headquarters are found in the United States or the United Kingdom. Expanding to a global market is quite a complex process and businesses have to take many different aspects into account such as: social/cultural, legal, political, economic, environmental and technological factors. These components help create an attractive business climate. Different businesses operate differently to assess these relevant factors. Strict Import export rules and regulations also need to be followed. Entering the global market also allows for larger competition between other similar businesses and to create trade agreements. There are many rules and regulations when entering into the global market and with each country having different requirements you must fulfil. These must be followed or the business cannot enter into business in that country. Different Theories ofMotivation Introduction Motivation is a reason or set or reasons for engaging in a particular behavior, especially human behavior as studied in psychology and neuropsychology. The reasons may include basic needs (e.g., food, water, shelter) or an object, goal, state of being, or ideal that is desirable, which may or may not be viewed as positive, such as seeking a state of being in which pain is absent. The motivation for a behavior may also be attributed to less apparent reasons such as altruism or morality. Motivation helps people to:  achieve goals  gain a positive perspective  create the power to change  build ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (See also Goal Theory.)In work environments, money is typically viewed as an important goal (having food, clothes etc.) may well be more powerful than the direct motivation provided by an enjoyable workplace. Coercion The most obvious form of motivation is coercion, where the avoidance of pain or other negative consequences has an immediate effect. Extreme use of coercion is considered slavery. While coercion is considered morally reprehensible in many philosophies, it is widely practiced on prisoners, students in mandatory schooling, within the nuclear family unit (on children), and in the form of conscription. Critics of modern capitalism charge that without social safety networks, wage slavery is inevitable. However, many capitalists such as Ayn Rand have been very vocal against coercion [citation needed] . Successful coercion sometimes can take priority over other types of motivation. Self coercion is rarely substantially negative (typically only negative in the sense that it avoids a positive, such as undergoing an expensive dinner or a period of relaxation), however it is interesting in that it illustrates how lower levels of motivation may be sometimes tweaked to satisfy higher ones. Self control The self control of motivation is increasingly understood as a subset of emotional intelligence; a person may be highly intelligent according to a more conservative definition (as measured by many intelligence tests), yet ... How Does KingLear s Play Relate To Shakespeare Fatima Mossolem In Samuel Johnson s essay Preface to Shakespeare he asserts that Shakespeare s writing is a mirror of manners and of life, which in laymans terms means that Shakespeare writes the truth about life, even when it is seen as unpleasant. This proves to be true even today, over a hundred years since King Lear was written. One of the meanings of the work as a whole in King Lear is that loyalty doesn t always have to be born of blood. We see this mostly with Kent, Lear s faithful servant, who stayed by Lear s side no matter the situation. Nature is also another meaning of the work as a whole. When related to Kent the question of nature is whether or not he is loyal to his king, and without compare he is. In my life now I have found that the best of friends will be more loyal and kind to you then the closest of families, proving that the stories and characters Shakespeare created can be paralleled in the modern world. Although one could claim that the events that occur in Shakespeare s plays are nothing more than fiction, it is obvious from both the characters and the plot that Shakespeare s work The first words Kent spoke in this play were Good my liege (pg 15). The first time Kent is seen in the play he is trying to convince Lear to rethink his decision about banishing Cordelia. Lear takes this as a challenge and of course banishes Kent as well. Analysis Of GracePaley s Life And Experiences Of Men And... The author, Grace Paley, constructs short stories that illustrate the lives and experiences of men and women living in New York City. This individual account captures the experiences of two Jewish immigrants in the community where she was raised. Anxiety has a protagonist character that shows apprehension about the probable destruction of the world. She confronts people that roam the street to warn them about the danger they face and how to protect society. The panicky narrator, with anxiety, tries to conserve society, therefore she alerts strangers of their wrongdoings, questions their actions, and gives them advice. The narrator s anxiety arises against the two men for the actions they display to their children; which is our future generation. The lady and the two fathers have distinct views on how the children should be treated. One father places his daughter from his shoulders to the ground roughly after she makes him angry. Let s not go too far, said the young father. We could get depressed. She WAS jumping around on my poor back and hollering Oink, oink the father pleaded with the aged lady (Paley 833). Her concern is the father should not roughly place his child upon the ground like he did, but the fathers have a diverse assumption on it. In the father s eyes, his actions were acceptable for the actions of his daughter s movements on his shoulders. The father felt his actions would prevent the daughter from demonstrating behavior like that anymore. The lady ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How Is HitlerA Victim Of Post-War Propaganda The Myth dispeller Is Hitler a victim of post war propaganda; why has the term Nazi become a term of abuse and was Hitler really a racist? Myth #1 Propaganda in the west Hitler was not averse to treading on people s toes and the biggest toes he trod on are those of the Jews. Like others before him, he stemmed the tide of European Jewry, but failed to conquer worldwide Zionism, especially in the U.S. The legacy he left behind him and especially his final testament still echo s today. Centuries will pass away, but out of the ruins of our towns and monuments the hatred against those finally responsible whom we have to thank for everything, international Jewry and its helpers, will grow. It took only two post war decades for the Jews ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Hitler s SS, over a third originated from foreign nations, including a Muslim Handschar division, Indians, Arabs and a Russian Vlasov RLA. This was whilst the blacks in the U.S. armed forces were still segregated, and twenty years before the UK, who still had signs in guesthouses in the 1960 s which read No Irish, dogs or blacks. Hitler believed in the superiority of races and distinctions amongst them, not racism which is a dislike of colour. The Second World War German army was the most ethnically diverse in history. Hitler simply believed in the separation of races and the total exclusion of the Jews. The white supremacy label then is a recent add on, designed to evoke feelings of racialism amongst a dumbed down and largely ignorant population. Six million, Oi veh! It is all designed to mislead and misinform! I firmly believe that in times to come, probably not in our lifetime, the west will again awake and view Hitler as a man ahead of his time, a prophet. The Jews are a clever and manipulative race, but their downfall, repeated throughout history, is that their genetic inheritance and a racial predisposition for wealth, deception and control, means that they are destined to repeat the same mistakes, which led Hitler to embark on a National Socialist ... Numerical Analysis UsingSofistik Software CHAPTER FIVE: Numerical analysis using SOFISTIK software 5.1. Introduction: In chapter 2, literatures of concrete modelling have been reviewed. The scope of this chapter is to describe the finite element software SOFISTIK to simulate the nonlinear behavior of the foam balls lightweight concrete. The results from this numerical technique are presented and validated with the experimental results obtained from the laboratory tests. The results obtained from these experimental and numerical investigations are taken to predict the nonlinear behavior of 150x150x150 mm FBLWC cube. The damage plasticity concrete concept is used to model the foam balls lightweight concrete cube in the SOFISTIK. Meanwhile, a spring elements are considered to reproduce the nonlinear FBLWC behavior. They are taken into account to develop the F.E.M. structural analysis to obtain stress strain responses. 5.1.1. Finite element method: The finite element method is a numerical technique that has been successfully adopted to study special cases where, for instance, stress strain distribution is required. In the past, due to the complexity of the problems, it was difficult to describe them in the same manner because they took much time and effort. However, the development and the use of sophisticated software have now improved this situation. (Zienhiewicz, 1977) The F.E.M. concept is then applied to simulate the performance of the experimental FBLWC tested at laboratory. The numerical evaluations are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Should Chris BrownBe Allowed To Enter Australia Essay Should Chris Brown be allowed to enter Australia? Recently there has been lots of controversy regarding whether or not Chris Brown should be granted a visa pass to enter Australia for his One Hell of a Nite tour in December. Chris should be granted a visa due to the fact that he is a changed man and has proven himself to his family, friends and fans. Chris Brown should be granted a visa pass for many reasons, one being him announcing that if he were to enter the country he would like to use his past experience to raise awareness about the issue. I would be more than grateful to come to Australia to raise awareness about domestic violence, he tweeted. I m not the pink elephant in the room anymore . He has even been pleading his case on Twitter. By him saying he is willing to raise awareness for domestic violence it is showing everyone how serious he is about this issue. It is obvious that what Chris did was wrong and he knows and admits it. Chris was on probation for 5 years, completed 1 year of domestic violence counselling and 6 months of community service, he has suffered the consequences of his actions and learnt his lesson. George Rogers ClarkFort Sackville Campaign The George Rogers Clark National Historical Park is located in Vincennes, Indiana, on the banks of the Wabash River. A memorial stands on the site of Fort Sackville to honor the capture of the fort from British soldiers by Lieutenant Colonel George Rogers Clark and his men on February 25, 1779, one of the greatest feats of the American Revolutionary War. Clark s army, aided by French people of the Illinois country, had marched through freezing floodwaters to gain this victory. The fortes capture assured United States claims to the frontier, an area nearly as large as the original thirteen states. It is thought to be the site of Fort Sackville which was a British settlement. Abbott named the fort Sackville in honor of Lord George Germain who had been known ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An interest in commemorating the great achievements of George Rogers Clark had developed among the citizens of Vincennes and the state of Indiana during the early 1920s as the 150th anniversary of the American Revolution neared. After several proposals President Calvin Coolidge signed into law a resolution establishing the George Rogers Clark Sesquicentennial Commission on May 23, 1928. A commission was created for the purpose of designing and constructing at or near the site of Fort Sackville a permanent memorial, commemorating the winning of the old northwest and the achievements of George Rogers Clark and his men. President Franklin D. Roosevelt dedicated the memorial June 14, 1936. In 1940 the memorial became a unit of the Indiana Department of Conservation. In 1966, Indiana transferred the site to the National Park Services. Next to the memorial is a visitor center which presents interesting programs and displays. The Value OfEvaluate Ability Defined By Fornell And... In discriminant validity methodology proposed by Fornell and Larcker (1981) shows that the value of square root of AVE should exceed the construct correlations with all other constructs (Table 3). To measure the internal consistency of the constructs, the values of composite reliability (CR) (Werts et al., 1974; Raykov, 1997) and Cronbach s alpha is carried out, supposed to be under estimate scale reliability with the recommended threshold criterion of .70 for both (Nunnally, 1978). The resulted value of composite reliability lies in between the.81 . 95 and for Cronbach s alpha, the values lie in between.67 and.97 (Table 2). Whereas, the resulted value for perceived environmental behaviour (β= .022; t value= .352; p=.470) and perceived environmental problem (β= −.011; t value= .704; p=.399) shows negative and insignificant effect on customer willingness to adoption. Therefore, the hypotheses H6 and H7 were rejected. 5. Discussion and conclusion This research provides some valuable insight on relationship between environmental aspect and willingness of consumers to adopt the solar lighting system. The result of the study shows the differential effect of environment on willingness of adoption of solar lighting system which confirms the previous studies. A common tendency among rural consumer is to collect the information regarding a product from friends relative and their neighbours. They rely on their opinion before purchase the product Positive opinion of neighbours relatives and friends has positive impact in adaptation of the solar energy. Another reason for the investment in solar lighting system is symbolic offering a way to demonstrate an ecological lifestyle to neighbours and friends (Palm and Tangvard 2011).the result of the ... A Reflection OnPublic Service As students of Masters of Public Service degrees, it is imperative to develop a holistic and deep understanding of what public service means. Our class discussions have shown us the ambiguity of striking a balance between opposing forces: between intention and outcome, aid and empowerment, intrinsic and extrinsic affirmation, and self interest and altruism. How do we balance these perspectives, when each has its benefits and pitfalls to the success of any project? In determining my own definition of public service, my hope is to elucidate factors that optimize each of these perspectives. In doing so, we can come closer to defining public service in a way that is both operationally useful and ethically guiding. Considering course documents and class discussions, I have defined the phrase as follows: The public is a marginalized body unable or unexpected to monetarily repay servants for provided goods. Service is an act that results in improved quality of life as reported by receiving individuals. Therefore public service is defined by (1) actions resulting (2) in goods that improve quality of life (3) as reported by marginalized recipients (4) who are unable or unexpected to monetarily repay the servant. By fragmenting the definition into four parts, I can address the issues of intention versus outcome, aid versus empowerment, intrinsic versus extrinsic affirmation, and self interest versus altruism in public service. The Dolphin IsA Breed Of Dolphin Maui s dolphin is a breed of dolphin that is slowly heading toward extinction, as they are a very endangered subspecies (1). On the North West coast of the North Island in New Zealand (between Dargaville and New Plymouth) lays isolated areas, which is where the Maui dolphin can be found, normally found in groups of approximately 1 to 5 dolphins within about 5 nautical miles of the shore. (2). Maui s dolphin is the smallest breed of dolphins; they range in size from approximately 1.2 1.7m and weigh roughly around 50kg (3)(4). Majority of the dolphin is coloured a light grey (back and sides), whilst having a white brush of colour along the sides of its body. They have an identifiable dorsal fin as it is more rounded compared to most dolphin fins that are sickle shaped (5)(6). They feed on small fish such as squid, flatfish, and cod, therefore not making too big an impact on the food chain. Over the recent years Maui dolphins have declined in numbers from approximately 150 in 2004, down to 55 Maui s Dolphin observed in 2012 (7)(8). According to A risk assessment of threats to Maui s dolphins the subspecies is in population decline holding a survival rate of 84% and a population decline rate of 2.8% per year, these statistics were taken between the years of 2001 and 2011 (9). If threats to the Maui s dolphin remain as they are it has been indicated that there is a 95.7% chance that the population will decline, therefore leading it to extinction (10). Reasons Why StudentAthletes Should Not Be Paid For... Division 1 and Division 2 colleges provide over 2.9 billion dollars a year in scholarships to student athletes. Student athletes should not be compensated for participating in college sports. College athletes can receive full ride scholarships for playing their sport of choice. Is the 40,000 dollars they are receiving in scholarships not compensation; thus prompting the question is the top tier education they are being provided with, not compensation enough? Most of the thousands of students that participate in college sports compete for the love of the game, not for a paycheck. Furthermore, college athletes understand that they may not compete at the pro level, in fact, only 2 % of college athletes go on to play professionally. The main part of the term student athletes is student. Students do not go to college expecting a check at the end of every month or to land a spot in the first round of the draft, instead the purpose is to receive an education. All things considered, student athletes should not receive compensation for playing sports in college because it would be almost financially impossible, some are already provided with money from scholarships , and finally they are being provided with an excellent higher education. Some say colleges should pay athletes because it s a full time job, scholarships aren t enough, not all players get scholarships or because the NCAA and universities make money off of the sports teams and players. Questions on Crime CrimeAnalysis 1. When reviewing these incident summaries, what type of analysis are you performing, tactical, strategic, or administrative, and why? From the information provided, it would seem necessary that tactical and strategic analysis would be required in order to determine the course of events and the ways in which the investigation should be performed. By utilizing the psychological techniques which are accessible to the police department, it is quite possible to analyze the past events and determine what may or may not continue to occur in the future until the individuals responsible for the crimes are apprehended. 2. Is this a crime series? Why, or why not? It would seem that this may be a crime series, because there are characteristics in the three crimes which overlap. However, there are also instances in each case which differ from one another and thus the case should be investigated as a potential series but the analysts should not overlook the possibility that these are unrelated, coincidental crimes. 3. Were there any clues that may help establish the identity of either of the suspects? There are some clues which could help identify the suspects in the case. Specifically, there were the masks, the clothing, and most importantly the tattoo which was observed in the third robbery of the man with a tattoo of a bleeding spider on his skin, which was ascertained to be white, making the man most likely Caucasian. 4.
