Hunter S. Tompson and Gonzo Journalism Essay
Hunter S. Tompson and Gonzo Journalism In the late sixties a young journalist and free lance novelist
named Hunter S. Thompson (HST) emerged with a new, crazed and exaggerated brand of reporting. It
was sooner or later referred to as Gonzo . HST s own definition of gonzo has varied over the years, but
he still maintains that a good gonzo journalist needs the talent of a master journalist, the eye of an
artist/photographer and the heavy balls of an actor and that gonzo is a style of reporting based on
William Faulkner s idea that the best fiction is far more true than any kind of journalism (Carroll, page
192). Gonzo journalism has also been referred to as outlaw journalism, new journalism, alternative
journalism, literary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Steadman s work will be found on the title page to this essay). As the deadline for the article
approached, and with the article still incomplete, HST resorted to ripping out pages of his notebook
and sending them to the editors. What resulted was the beginning of gonzo journalism. Many see
gonzo journalism to be a variation of a theme, which began with new journalism in the 60 s, led
primarily by author Tom Wolfe. (The Electric Kool Aid Acid Test, etc.) New Journalism was said to
have broken all the rules of traditional journalism. The old style journalists were supposed to take an
objective point of view in their articles. The new journalists were far more subjective, getting
personally involved in the stories they were reporting. New journalism really isn t new at all.
Objectivity has been the great myth of journalism. As hard as media sources try to be objective, they
can never truly achieve it. Everything from space limitations (a journalist must decide what is and
what is not important enough to fit into a column) to illustrations (this gives readers a non objective
picture in their head about the issue) infringe on objectivity. New journalism and gonzo journalism
alike pay no regard to the objectivity laws of journalism and instead focus their works very little on
the facts but on the facts , as they

Sandstone Country Club Incident Essay
On an extremely hot August night at Sandstone Country Club, an incident occurred between a server
and a cook. Roberto, the server, was not receiving great tips and was having a tough night with his
tables, due to the high capacity of people getting dinner and the heat making customers and other
workers impatient. When Dr. Steele and his table sat at one of his tables, he knew he had to try his
hardest to keep him happy because he was a generous tipper but very critical if the service is bad.
Almost everything that could go wrong with Dr. Steele s order went wrong. First, he ordered a special
that had already run out for the night. Dr. Steele was already angry and ordered lamb, which Roberto
knew would take a long time. When Dr. Steele asked for a second time to check on their food because
his group had tickets to a play, Roberto went to Steve, the cook, and told him to stop making the lamb
and make whatever was fastest. Steve was already getting angry with Roberto for shouting orders at
him and blaming the cooks for his rough night, but told him he could make him a pasta dish. When
Roberto relayed this news to Dr. Steele, he was fed up and his group left the restaurant. ... Show more

If the issue with Roberto had been addressed earlier and the cooks had tried to calmly talk to him,
some problems may have been avoided. The action of firing Roberto shows his staff that he cannot
accept an attitude like that in the workplace and will almost scare people into mouthing off to other co
workers when they are angry, which is good because they won t anger their co workers. Giving
disciplinary action to Steve is also necessary to convey the message that violence in the workplace is
not acceptable either and will ensure that the staff thinks before they act on their anger in the

Change In Treasure Island
Forces, conflict, and change are very important factors that shape the identity of a character. Jim
Hawkins, the main character of Treasure Island, is immensely transformed throughout many
challenges, and the forces that cause them. The tragedy of death, the exhilaration of war, and the
environment he was in greatly changed who Jim Hawkins was physically and mentally. The many
battles Jim Hawkins was in strengthened him in many ways. When on his way to Treasure Island, Jim
discovered that more than half the crew was plotting to destroy the captain and his loyal crew.
(Stevenson 61) Soon, when land was reached, fight broke out. Jim had to adapt to what would be the
first, but not the last battle of his life. (Stevenson 76) The conflicts that

The Financial Crisis Of 2007
The most recent financial crisis of 2007 was felt throughout the world, and brought about huge
economic consequences that are still being felt to this day. Within the United States, the crisis
undoubtedly resulted in a surge in poverty and unemployment, a significant drop in consumption, and
the loss of trust in the capitalist economic system. Because of globalization, this crisis was felt through
the intertwined global markets, affecting underdeveloped countries even more. Historical events from
the past have taught us that financial crises such as the one we suffered during 2007 have occurred a
vast number of times. From Mexico to Thailand, these financial crises have resulted in contagion
worldwide, and have caused governments to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Banks would lend money to these prospective home buyers without checking the amount of incoming
and concurrent assets that they owned in order to see if they would be able to repay the loan. These
loans were then pooled and sold off to government financial institutions such as Fannie Mae and
Freddy Mac. Slowly, the homeowners were unable to repay their loans, which forced them to either
sell their homes at a lower price or foreclose, between September 2008 and September 2012 alone, 3.8
million U.S. property owners lost their homes (Balaam, 196). This severely increased the mortgage
loss rates for both lenders and investors; it became known as the subprime mortgage crisis. Eventually,
government financial institutions whom had bought these pooled mortgages filed for bankruptcy soon
after, which had a chain effect reaction throughout the entire economic system both in the U.S. and
around the world. Thus, it created what is now known as the most recent financial crisis. The U.S.
government immediately issued emergency loans and tried to increase the money supply, they
extended these emergency loans to over 700 banks in order to incentivize home, student, auto, and
small business loans (Balaam, 194). By the end of 2008 the stock market in the United States and
Europe had suffered loses of over 40%; losses that until recently have recovered (Balaam, 194). The
economic crisis resurged feelings of loss and insecurities that were to some

Registered nurses, or RN, encompass a holistic concept of humans, incorporating physical, emotional

Environmental Pollution In Honeybees
Effects of global warming and pollution in honeybees.
Pollination is one of the necessary processes to maintain global biodiversity along with nearly a third
of the universal food production sector (1). European honey bees are known as one of the most
significant pollinators in the western world but a decline in population management has been shown
over the years (5). Declines in honey bee populations not only caused by poor supervision but can be
attributed to pollution and combined effects of climate change (4). Intraspecific communication
amongst honey bees has been negatively impacted by factors such as pollution of air (4), landscape
alteration, the spreading of pathogens and agricultural intensification (5), along with the extreme
temperature variation (1). Plant fitness is affected by the diminishing levels of volatile compounds
which cause these pollinators to spend their energy ineffectively (4). Drastic measures will need to be
set in place in order to preserve this genetically rich species and to maintain the ecosystems that are so
valuable, not only for global biodiversity but for the multi billion agricultural industries as well (1).
The honey bee is known for its genetic variability and plasticity in varying environmental conditions
(1). With temperatures changing, honey bees will have to adapt to new stressors such as plant
morphology, pesticides, harvesting capacity and floral ecosystem (1).
Looking at climate change trends, regions will be unable to

Ragamuffin Gospel Reflection
I have read 100% of the book in the past and 75% this time (some skimming).
What I enjoy most/least about the text. This is the second time I have read The Ragamuffin Gospel by
Brennan Manning (2005), and I still feel like it is a must read for any Christian. The first time I read
this book I remember being awed by God s Grace for ragamuffins and how that relates to my
interactions with people; when I showed God s grace, and when I did not. I still remember specific
times when God reminded me how much he loved the broken and how I could be his hand outreached
by being Jesus with skin on . I also remember specific times when I knew God was directing me to
love on someone, and I for one reason or another, I did not. The first time I read Manning s book, I fell
more in love with people because it helped get a glimpse of how much God loved a ragamuffin. Now
that I am older and life has been harder, I read Manning s book in a different light. Unlike the first
time, where I was reminded how much God loves others; this time it reminds me how much God loves
me! Even though my faith has faltered, and I have had series of doubts and struggles with trust, God
sill loves me. While reading the same words I did several years ago I am seeing things differently.
What I learned. During the past year, I have been doing a great deal of stretching . I have sought out
help to heal from past hurts and continue to look for ways to restore and grow. Along the way I
discovered that my

The Things They Carried Literary Analysis
In The Things They Carried Tim O Brien relies heavily on lists as a literary device. O Brien focuses
on three distinct types of lists. These lists include military equipment, personal items and emotional or
psychological strain. The lists serve a higher purpose, O Brien uses these lists to introduce each
character in the story and give the reader insight into what mattered most to each of the men. O Brien
s use of lists as a means of character development then as a way to counteract the chaos and
uncertainty of war sets The Things They Carried apart from other war literature. @ The first of these
lists contained the necessities or near necessities including: can openers, pocket knives, heat tabs,
watches, dog tags, mosquito ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lieutenant Cross uses Martha as an escape from the reality of the war. Lieutenant Cross fantasizes
about romantic trips with Martha to beautiful places as he trudged through swamps and forests. In, the
evening Cross reads letters from Martha and contemplates her feelings for him. The thought of Martha
is so prevalent in Lieutenant Cross s head, the war is hardly mentioned in the first few pages of the
story. Even when Ted Lavender dies, it only takes up one sentence, before transitioning back to
Martha. Even though she fills him with doubt, worry, love and longing; Lieutenant Cross would rather
focus on Martha than the possibility of death. Martha is representative of the emotional baggage
soldiers carry, To carry something was to hump it, as when Lieutenant Jimmy Cross humped his love
for Marth up the hills and through the swamps (O Brien 5). O Brien, is showing readers that
Lieutenant Cross is not only carrying the weight of his gear, but also the weight of his love for Martha.
His love for Martha weighs heavy on his heart, and his thoughts about her seems to become an
obsession. @ After Lavender s death, Lieutenant Cross struggles with guilt and his sense of reality.
Lieutenant Cross s mental breakdown related to the death of one of his men is a symptom of PTSD.
PTSD is post traumatic stress disorder, and can develop after a very stressful or frightening incident,
or after a traumatic event. The death of one of his men is a very

Inference Essay
What kind of tribe is the Eneon? We do not have much information about this tribe as the
anthropologists had just found out their existence. We only have limited information we received from
the anthropologists. The information are based on the environment and climate they live in, the food
they eat, their family and children, books and arts and their social aspect and attitudes toward war that
the Eneon tribe are live in. According to the report provided by the anthropologists about Eneon, there
are three words for terrain designating absolutely flat, rolling, and slightly hilly . Therefore they all
live in a place that is surrounded by hills. As hills surround them they do not know the existence of the
ocean, perhaps they do not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, as the Enoen have seven terms to describe the stages of life up to puberty and only one
word from puberty to death, with this we can tell that they have many stages once the child is born till
the day he or she is eighteen, and maybe only have 1 word for puberty to death, because at this point
Eneon do not have anything else to explain; therefore the word woman are synonymous with wife and
mother and man for husband and father with this information we can assume the adults will be taking
care of all the children, and as they pass the puberty they are unable to gain new knowledge. It also
appears that they have twenty words for books, so perhaps they are twenty stages of books they have
to use through out their birth to death; therefore they are a very educated tribe. We can assume that
Eneon people have very high pride in art. We can infer this because they have nine words for artist.
They also seem to have many interests toward theater as well, as they have four words that mean
theater. They have a word praise that is translated as peacemaker and conciliator ; we assume that they
have a person in the tribe that is making sure that there are no fights between each person. Since
everyone in the tribe have gone through a high education system, which makes each

Theoretical Concepts. There Are Many Theoretical Concepts
Theoretical concepts There are many theoretical concepts to explain addictions, a few that I see being
used in NA and AA meetings is the Disease Model, Social Learning Model, and Cognitive Behavioral
Therapy. In both of the meetings I attended the members stood up and admitted they are powerless
over their addiction. This falls in with the Disease Model. According to the disease model the
addiction is in the individual s brain. Therefore, the addict is incapable of controlling their own use
(Forcehimes, Miller Zweben, 2011, pg. 25). Research has also shown that certain individuals have a
genetic risk factor that is likely to increase the likelihood of them developing an addiction. This put
the blame on the addiction and not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She had to learn how to handle her fear of group functions that didn t involve the use of drugs.
Another role that is used to help explain what shapes an addiction is Social Learning Model.
Individuals modify their choices and use of substance in response to changes in the social environment
(pg. 25). This is done by watching family members or friends use drugs or alcohol. It can also be done
by going to parties or events, and drinking to feel comfortable. To overcome this the individual needs
to change their relationships and social environment that makes them want to use. Individuals in the
support groups are coming together to find a support from peers that don t encourage them to use
substances. They work together and build each other up on their road to recovery. In both groups I
witness love and support from everyone. If one person admitted they were struggling the member next
them would put their arm around them and give them encouraging words. They become each other s
support. Practice/Intervention Every addict has their own trigger that can push them towards relapse.
For an addict to overcome their addiction they must understand what their triggers are. Then it s trying
to understand how to avoid that trigger or come up with healthier coping skills to handle the triggers.
According to Treating Addictions (Forcehimes, Miller Zweben, 2011) it is important to identify how
the individual uses the substances, and

The Critique Of Dystopian Fiction
The increase in the quantity and array of literature available for young adult readers today represents a
more recent happening. The up and coming belief that the teenage years represent a stage of life split
from both childhood and adulthood. The publishing houses started to publish quite a few chain of
books aimed at young adults and also mature audiences. Through these fiction there began a makeover
into what contemporary readers think as young adult literature.
This YA literature began to utilize a realistic style combined with a grittier view of life. The world
found its reflection in this brand of literature. The schemes of these fictions were subjects often
uncharted or were formerly considered taboo for both adults and teenagers. ... Show more content on

The Killings And Destruction Of Cultures Throughout The...
History is told in many different ways, and the truth that lies in the stories told, can sometimes be
blurred by different perspectives. Comparing four cases of genocide which formed in the United
States, Australia, British India and German Southwest Africa, allows for a better comprehension of
genocide as defined by the UN Convention. The four cases raise question as to why we can consider
the cases to be genocide, and what similarities and differences each case has. Considering the UN
definition , I acknowledge all but the British Indian case to be genocide. There are multiple similarities
between the mass killings and destruction of cultures in the US, Australia, and German Southwest
Africa, which align with the classification of genocide, but in the case of British India, it doesn t align.
Using The Historiography of Genocide by Dan Stone, Victoria s Ghost by Mike Davis, To Kill A
People by John Cox and Genocide by Adam Jones, I will articulate arguments about the genocides
found in each case.
In the year 1608, pilgrims arrived to Plymouth Rock, Massachusetts where Indians fed them and
showed them hospitality. In return, the colonists brought Indians small poxes, among other diseases,
which would decimate the Indian community. The plague of diseases caused a decrease in Indian
population, from roughly 7 million to 237,000, and allowed for the settlers to expand. Although the
spread of disease was not the settlers intent, it is arguably a factor in the success of

Mastitis Research Paper
Mastitis is the inflammation of the mammary gland (Damron 685). It looks nothing like it should.
Mastitis makes the milk very stringy and clumpy. It can be caused by many different things. Most
common bacteria that causes mastitis are: Coagulase negative staphylococci bacteria and Mycoplasma
capricolum. Other things that can cause mastitis are yeast infections and frequent use of penicillin.
Mastitis can be fatal if it is not treated. Your does (nanny goats) will usually show signs of mastitis by
one or both of the teats being swollen and warm to the touch. Its very painful for them. Sometimes
mastitis shows no signs until it is too late to treat. Treatment for mastitis can be very costly! First you
have to make sure your goat has mastitis.

Cognitive behavioural therapy, an empirically validated treatment for Major Depressive Disorder
(Robinson, Berman, Neimeyer, 1990) has featured in over 78 research studies, and is the treatment of
choice when treating depression by many clinicians. A meta analaysis completed by Dobson (1989),
reviewed 28 studies featuring cognitive therapy and depression, and found that cognitive therapy was
a more effective treatment modality than behaviour therapy, wait list control, medication, and other
therapies. A further meta analysis conducted by Gloaguen et al., (1998) found that Cognitive
behavioural therapy was equal to behaviour therapy, and more effective than drug treatments when

As concentration, and therefore thinking becomes more difficult for depressed individuals, a more
simplistic form of therapy, may prove to be more appropriate to not only engage the client, but also
keep their attention long enough to experience positive effects. Cognitive behavioural therapy is a
structured style of therapy requiring direction from the clinician. Studies have found that the skill of
the therapist is directly related to the outcomes of therapy (Strunk et al., 2010). As this style of therapy
involves collaboration, as well as gentle direction by the therapist (Sudak, 2011), an incompetent
therapist can lead to therapy not being tailored to the individual, therefore reducing therapeutic gains.
Studies have found clients reported that at times they have felt under pressure to give particular
answers when receiving CBT, or that therapy was not flexible (Barnes et al., (2013). Therefore a style
of therapy that is flexible in nature, and directed toward areas that the client most wishes to work on
may be more appropriate. Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is an energy psychology therapy

Emotional Intelligence On Human Resources
Emotional Intelligence in Human Resources Emotional Intelligence is a key role for success in the
workplace, and it is vital for Human Resource Managers. Human Resources Managers deal with
people daily, and Emotional Intelligence should be used in all cases. The ability to know your own
emotions and recognize the emotions of others helps in the communication process with other
individuals. Management, as well as employees, must exhibit high emotional intelligence in order for
the company to grow and function at its highest profitability. As with any other component of a
company, emotional intelligence must be the most prevalent in management. Human Resources
Managers determine what type of employees the company hires and ultimately keeps. ... Show more

As environment changes, as it does quite often in the workplace, the person with high emotional
intelligence can adapt consequently. A person with low emotional intelligence is less equipped to face
dilemmas inside or outside the workplace. A high emotional intelligence gives those employees and
managers the advantage of accepting a negative situation and doing everything possible to create a
positive outcome. In the workplace, situations that are overly stressful are bound to arise and one with
low emotional intelligence will more than likely remain stagnant, not knowing how to handle the
mountain of stress to achieve the goal.
Emotional Intelligence in Recruiting
While searching for new employees, Human Resource Managers must keep an array of necessary
skills in the forefront of their mind. More recently, Human Resource Managers are starting to demand
employees display a relatively high emotional intelligence along with a high IQ, job experience,
stability, and the right personality (Thygesen, 2014). By hiring a person with an already high

that sometimes onboarding a new recruit can cause. In addition, it helps the Human Resources

The State Of The Dakota Access Pipeline Essay
A battle of saving and maintaining clean water and sacred burial lands is what is at stake with the
possible construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline (White). The Dakota Access Pipeline, or
commonly known as DAPL on the Internet, is a 1,172 mile pipeline that would carry oil. The pipeline
is being proposed to have a route that would travel through the Standing Rock Native American
reservation (Donnella). The reservation spans across both North and South Dakota. The reservation is
inhabited by Lakota and Dakota nations, or commonly known as the Sioux Native Americans (
History ).
With the urgency of hindering the DAPL efforts in building the pipeline have come with protests from
Native Americans and non Natives alike. Many of these peaceful protests from the Indigenous people
have turned violent with the police pepper spraying and using forceful actions toward those that are
fighting the pipeline ( Protests Over The Dakota Access Pipeline ).
The protests have stopped, due to the battle over the construction of this pipeline is switching from the
reservation to court (Richardson). Most recently, President Barack Obama decided to look for other
routes for the project on Dec. 5, and to halt the constriction of the pipeline for the time being
(Richardson). Overall, the conclusion of the pipeline on whether it will be built or not is unknown.
President elect Donald Trump declined to comment on the issue, but stated that he will work through

INTRODUCTION Not finance. Not strategy. Not technology. It is teamwork that remains the ultimate
competitive advantage, both because it is so powerful and so rare. A friend of mine, the founder of a
company that grew to a billion dollars in annual revenue, best expressed the power of teamwork when
he once told me, If you could get all the people in an organization rowing in the same direction, you
could dominate any industry, in any market, against any competition, at any time. Whenever I repeat
that adage to a group of leaders, they immediately nod their heads, but in a desperate sort of way. They
seem to grasp the truth of it while simultaneously surrendering to the impossibility of actually making
it happen. And that is where the rarity of teamwork comes into play. For all the attention that it has
received over the years from scholars, coaches, teachers, and the media, teamwork is as elusive as it
has ever been within

Redeeming Santa Claus
Santa Claus, is known by many names: Saint Nicholas, Father Christmas, Kris Kringle and simply
Santa . He is a figure that has been influenced by legend, myth, folklore and most importantly for our
purposes today. He wears red, is pulled around on a sleigh by a bunch of reindeer and delivers
presents to good children on the 24th of December.
The purpose of my post is not to argue about whether or not to teach kids about the full on mythical
father Christmas; personally I think it is a bad idea to go along with our culture on this; my friend
Clint Archer does a good job of dealing with this issue, click here to read it.
What I hope to do in this article is see if there is anything about Father Christmas that can be
redeemed. Now before you think my optimistic amillenialism has got the best of me, please read on.
The portly, joyous, white bearded, bespectacled, red coat wearing, black leather belt displaying man
who carries gifts for children in a huge bad really became popular in the USA and Canda in the 19th
century . Thanks to the American media machine this image has been maintained and promulgated in
song, radio, TV, children s books and films. This image was further entrenched in the 20th century,
especially with big corporations like Coka Cola taking Santa on board their advertising .

México. Being part of the Mexican culture is very different from other cultures, but every culture is
unique of its own way. Many Mexican people have preserved and still do many of their ancestors
traditions. Tradition plays a big role in my family for example: the food we eat, the music we listen to,
what we dance to and what we celebrate to. I wanted a sweet sixteen but of course being Mexican my
parents said no. Being in the Mexican culture tradition is that when you turn 15 you re supposed to
have a Quinceanera it symbolizes that you are no longer a kid but you are now a young women. Many
people think a Quinceanera is just a party but the real tradition is to have a church mass. Since I am
catholic that consists of me going to church and thanking God. Social behaviors impact your life in
many ways. You have roles and rules in your cultures. When you re with your friends you act a
different way. When it has to do with family or church groups you have a role and rules and your
behavior is different. Women and Males have different rules and roles. Mother is supposed to stay
home and Father is supposed to work to help his family. Women are not supposed to do yard work
their job is inside. That has changed with the year s most

A Brief Note On Cross Cultural Communication Within The...
Problems or difficulties of cross cultural communication within the company
Language problem and other difficulties. English is the communication language within the company
but it s not native for the Russian managers. Therefore, they admit some difficulties related to this,
such as sometimes it s necessary to ask for the details from their American colleagues to understand
their requests better. American managers admit the language difficulties as well but they understand
that it s not easy to express oneself in a foreign language. There are also differences in the approach to
the business correspondence, e. g. the American managers use many introductory and conclusive
phrases, while Russian managers go straight to the business and often ... Show more content on

Moreover, Russian colleagues are perceived as a bit negative and American ones as too optimistic
regarding new ideas:
Russian colleagues can be, I don t want to say negative , but there is always an element of an argument
to what they do. When you bring up an idea instead of always looking at anything optimistic they say
yes, but... . It s always something a kind of negative and there is no optimistic look. I don t know if it s
cultural, I m not sure. Sometimes it is said that people in the USA are too optimistic, but it s one of the
biggest things that I can see (Participant 5).
This observation is in compliance with Thomalin and Nicks (2007) and Bergelson (2003) who
describe Russians as more fatalistic and Americans as having a can do attitude. Also American
colleagues avoid the word problem and start to discuss business issues from the positive things. While
Russian managers concentrate on the negative things first.
Stress during cross cultural communication. Four out of six managers have some stress during cross
cultural communication with their Russian or American colleagues. According to the opinion of one
American manager, around 80% of the American employees agree that it would be less stressful if
there could be less communication with their Russian colleagues. Russian managers have

A Time Capsule Research Paper
*Gasp*
A time capsule, a great way for future generations to learn about the past, contains valuable articles.
This device may contain only three items. One hundred years from now, people will discover this
hidden chest. The contents of this time capsule might shock the discoverers. Just as people wonder
what the future is like, the future generations might wonder what the past was like. A person could
place an old cellphone, fire arm, or clothing for example into this container.
Firstly, the cellphone would make a fine article in this instance. The future people will see first hand
what technology the past generations used. They could disassemble the phone and realize just how
much the technology has changed. Because future people took

Human Overpopulation
Overpopulation of Humans The impact of human activity on the environment is catastrophically
devastating and destructible. Assisting to that destruction is the increasing number of people that make
up the worlds population today. Overpopulation is the condition of giving birth to a number of people
living on earth that over exceeds the amount of space, resources and land found on our planet.
According to reports from the United Nations (2007), World population is currently growing by
approximately 75 million people per year. Such growth should be considered alarming and a possible
threat to people as well as our environment. Humans all over the world must understand that these
changes in population growth will foreshadow many changes ... Show more content on

According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA), the transportation sector
is the second largest source of CO2 emissions in the U.S. Automobiles and light duty trucks account
for almost two thirds of emissions from the transportation sector and emissions have steadily grown
since 1990. Other sources of transportation emissions are freight trucks, aircraft, trains and boats.
Emissions from transportation depend on the number of trips or miles traveled by each type of vehicle
each year, which are in turn influenced by larger economic trends and consumer behavior. Over the
long term, changes in the fuel efficiency of vehicles (e.g., mileage), and in the type of fuel used can
also influence the level of emissions. (2007)
Controlling and managing this type of pollution requires far more than what people can ever imagine.
A number of approaches attempting to take air pollution serious have already been implemented by
government and other environmental agencies. Education and encouragement from the human
population as a whole can make a difference.

Lucretius Banquet Argument
People have many different perspectives on death, however, the majority of people fear death as a
result of not knowing what s to come after or the notion that death is evil. Lucretius argues against this
belief with compelling and reasonable points. He states that one should not be afraid or sad that they
are going to die, but rather not think about it at all. In his banquet argument, he states that one should
not spend his life thinking about death in sorrow, but rather not think about it at all and live in the
moment. By doing this, you will erase all the negative thoughts and allow yourself to enjoy what life
has to offer; Now put aside all thoughts that are unseemingly for your grey head.....leave with your
heart light. (M TS,101). Lucretius also talks about being grateful that you get to experience the joy of
life. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If life has been good, then why should you beg it to go on like a greedy and ungrateful guest. He
states, Come along, make room for others... (M TS,101), in other words, the old must make room for
the young, and so on. Lucretius conclusion is that fearing death is irrational. Why should we fear
death when we will become no more. We will no longer be affected by anything or anyone, and we
will no longer be concerned about what occurs in the future. In simpler terms, in order for something
to hurt you, you must exist at the same time as the thing. When you are dead, you don t exist anymore.
Thus, death can t hurt you. Furthermore, death is inevitable. It s just another part of life that should not

The Differences Of Cruel And Unusual Punishment
Cruel and Unusual Punishment
If you had the choice would you rather die from being crushed by an elephant or by what the persians
called Scaphism ? You could have rats dig through your flesh into your chest or be boiled alive
(Eldridge 2017). It all sounds pretty tempting am I right? The eighth amendment to the U.S.
Constitution prohibits the federal government from imposing cruel and unusual punishment for federal
crimes. What is cruel and unusual punishment? What are the differences between old medieval,
Roman, Egyptian and, nowadays cruel and unusual punishments? To understand the topic of my paper
we have to understand what cruel and unusual punishment means. Dictionary.com states that it is
punishment prohibited by the Eighth Amendment to the Constitution. Cruel and unusual punishment
includes torture, deliberately degrading punishment, or punishment that is too severe for the crime
committed. This concept helps guarantee due process even to convicted criminals. Many people have
argued that capital punishment should be considered cruel and unusual punishment (Dictionary.com
2017).
Cruel; disposed to inflict pain or suffering, devoid of humane feelings, causing or conducive to injury,
grief, or pain. Unusual; not usual : uncommon, rare. Punishment; suffering, pain, or loss that serves as
retribution: a penalty inflicted on an offender through judicial procedure (Merriam Webster 2017).

Captain Philips
March 28, 2016
Challenging Globalization One of the most important challenges facing the world today is
globalization (Lewis, Martin and others, 4). In the film, Captain Philips, globalization is tested, and
pushed past its limits. The film is a great example of how a situation can take a turn for the worst if
globalization is not allowed. The movie has little number of symbols, but they are significant. In the
film, globalization can be viewed as a big picture, and be narrowed down between to people. In
addition, globalization shapes the character together, and then pushes them down different paths. The
process of globalization in Captain Philips can be viewed as one big picture. ... Show more content on

Throughout the film the pirate leader Muse and Captain Philips change is the same way. They both
start out strong and prepared. Both captains also have some of the same ethics. They both are hard
workers wanting to get their job done the fast, and the easiest way possible. As the pirates attack,
Muse and Philips are shaped the same way. They want what is best for them and their people. This
shows globalization because even though the captains are different nationalities, they both want to
connect with one another making the situation better for them and there people. As the film continues
the shaping of the two characters change. Philips succeeded in getting his crew out of harm s way, but
Muse and his band of pirates are still in danger with the Navy. This action ends up shaping the
characters in different direction. Philips can have some sort of piece knowing that his crew members
are out of harm s way. Muse on the other hand is still in intense negotiations with Navy leaving him
worried and frustrated. This example shows that if globalization is allowed thing get better as a whole,

The Little Known Victims of the Holocaust Essay
The Little Known Victims of the Holocaust Many people look back on the Holocaust today and realize
that so many abysmal and hideous things happened. The genocide of the Jews is known but what may
be less well documented is Hitler s design to eradicate all groups other than the blue eyed, fair haired
Aryans. So many of them were forgotten and just pushed in with the major race of the Jews, who were
said to be unworthy of life. The people were not ready, nor expecting to be forced into such an
egregious state of being. Adolf Hitler excruciatingly persecuted every race that he thought was
unsuitable for his dream of a Master Race. On September 1, 1939, Hitler began the start of World War
II. He decided that he wanted to build what he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hitler thought that they were the only children of God and the Jews and other non German races were
here only to be once removed; they were an undeserving race to be on Earth (Berenbaum 68). Every
victim of the Holocaust was under the category of The Untermenschen , which meant that they were
not considered human and were treated horrendously. The Slavs, Poles, Gypsies, German
homosexuals, Blacks, and the Communists were killed. Even the disabled and every one with
incurable illnesses were Untermenschen as far as Hitler was concerned. The major race, besides the
Jews, that was to be eliminated completely was the Romanian Gypsies (Friedman 7). No one of that
race was allowed to live. From the ages zero to one hundred, absolutely no one was to remain alive. In
the beginning, the Gypsies were treated poorly and their talent and success became a major threat to
all the local people. It was then that Hitler decided they were not to be around anymore. They were all
considered like second class citizens if not more poorly. The Nazi s were even told to experiment on
them to try to prove that the Gypsies were somehow of different blood and not like that of the Master
Race. A perverse man, Dr, Mengele, did shocking and appalling experiments on people and he was

Natural Darkness Analysis
Natural darkness is something many people take for granted and do not consider worthwhile to think
about. However, the author of this passage, Paul Bogard, advocates to preserve natural darkness in Let
There Be Dark. Through his use of appealing to emotion, facts, and word choice, Bogard is able to
make an emotional plea to preserve darkness whilst also informing the reader of the many benefits
natural darkness has to offer as well.
Within the first paragraph Bogard has already established a connection he himself feels with natural
darkness. Through connected darkness with his memories in, At my family s cabin on a Minnesota
lake, I knew woods so dark that my hands disappeared before my eyes. I knew night skies in which
meteors left smoky trails across sugary spreads of stars, Bogard is able to invite the reader into
understanding why he is fighting for the preservation of natural darkness and the connection he has
with it. By allowing the reader this personal insight he is allowing for the reader themselves to connect
to the natural darkness the way he had as a child as well as promote the reader to think of their own
memories with darkness. By allowing this reminiscing, the author of the passage from the start allows
for the reader to get pulled into his argument and understand his thoughts. Later on, more appeals to
emotions are seen. Bogard begins to add other relatable material throughout the passage as well, such
as, In a world awash with electric light . . .

the National Association for the Education of Young Children s (NAEYC) Code of Ethical Conduct
Supplement for Early Childhood Program Administrators for guidance in how to conduct myself in a
responsible and professional way (Baptiste Reyes, 2009). This supplement was adopted July 2006 for
the purpose of giving administrators whose programs care for young children guidelines to help them
make responsible decisions as an administrator. This code has five sections (Ethical Responsibilities to
Children, Ethical Responsibilities to Families, Ethical Responsibilities to Personnel, Ethical
Responsibilities to Sponsoring Agencies and Governing Bodies, and Ethical Responsibilities to
Community, Society, and the Field of Early Childhood Education) and is broken up into two
subsections (Ideals and Principles) (Baptiste Reyes, 2009). The ideals subsections are what child care
professionals should strive to achieve, whereas the principles subsections are what guide professionals
in their conduct and in making ethical decisions (Baptiste Reyes, 2009). Utilizing this code of ethical
conduct, I will attempt to fix the rift in trust between the parents of the children at my child care center

Getting For Yes, By Roger Fisher And Looking Behind The...
Roger Fisher and William Ury s book, Getting to Yes, proposes a variety of negotiation strategies and
tools. The authors break their method down into four procedures and demonstrate them in common
negotiation scenarios. They encourage readers to break away from the two extremes of soft and hard
bargaining to seek a third approach. They call the third approach principled negotiation or negotiation
on the merits . I submit that the procedures proposed in Getting to Yes alternatively break down to two
simplistic themes, Emotional Chess and Looking Behind the Curtain, which are broadly applicable in
contemporary negotiation. Additionally, I submit that within the authors procedures are four tactics
which vary in applicability ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Only after this can healing and forward progress be made without risk of past emotions infecting
negotiations. The best way to address emotional issues is to acknowledge them as a legitimate by
allowing both sides to air their grievances without interruption and without criticism. This process also
allows both sides to empathize with the other s position and potentially remove prejudices and
assumptions. Additionally, this airing can unearth common interests between the parties which they
assumed were issues of conflict. This strategy does require caution, however, which is not suggested
by the authors; this issue is addressed in Part 3. When playing Emotional Chess, it is important to
avoid the topic of trust. Trust is often regarded in Western cultures as a cornerstone of relationships
and is a deep seated principle. In negotiations, however, it can be used as a tactic to fuel emotions and
re enlist egos into the negotiation fray. A party s reply of Don t you trust me? to an inquiry of
proposition s rationale, raises principle above reason and logic. Even if innocently used, this reply
places the responding party into an uneasy position. To sidestep this emotional landmine, parties
should jointly seek independent criteria to assess their rationale and the situation at hand. This joint
search aims the parties energies at the problem opposed to

Paul s Dehumanization In All Quiet On The Western Front
In All Quiet on the Western Front, the Great War emotionally destroys Paul through the
dehumanization of the soldiers. Throughout the book, thoughts of his future, desperation for life, and
coping with his actions crushes him psychologically. Therefore Paul gains realization of the reality of
the war; he soon loses everyone he has gained emotional attachment to during the time he serves and
is unable to cope with the loss of all his companions. This disturbs him far more than the physical
wounds in battle.
From the beginning Paul has many doubts about his life after the war. Compared to the older men, he
had no career or love to hopefully reunite with. As he imagines a life away from the violence, he
realizes these boys entered the war before ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These boys were motivated by nationalism and false propaganda about the heroic nature of the war. As
they began to understand the uselessness of the soldiers sacrifices, Paul s comrades develop a
bitterness towards the system. Especially after seeing their German leader, they question the
government s intentions. Their innocence was manipulated to benefit political officials with no
consideration for each individual life that is affected by the war.
Psychologically Paul is greatly affected by his experiences in the war and is unable to express his time
there. He has escaped any major injury during the most violent parts of the war. However after all his
companions are killed in duty, he is restless and loses the desire to live. Paul was set free from the
emotional turmoil when he dies; the physical pain no longer affects him. Ironically, he dies on an all

Paul escaped serious physical wounds; however, he is completely destroyed by the effects of the war.
After being mercilessly attacked with gas, he sees the brutality and lack of concern for the soldiers
lives. Although he is continuously pressured by authority figures to see the opposing fighter as the
main enemy, Paul understands the problem goes beyond killing other men. The war tears Paul apart

John Locke s Theory On Modern Science
John Locke s theories on how knowledge is gained through the senses and how there are different
kinds of experiences and ideas adds to, and justifies, the movement of modern science. Modern
science is all about observing the natural world in order to understand and gain knowledge about what
is going around us. I agree that humans do gain knowledge and form different kinds of ideas through
our senses and different experiences.
The reoccurring theme with John Locke s theory on modern science is the idea of the senses and how
knowledge is made through sense data. Empiricism is the notion that all knowledge comes from sense
experience. We, as conscious individuals, do not know anything until we experience it with our own
senses, which then our senses shape our mind on how we view and understand a certain object as well
as his concept of simple and complex ideas Lock, and many other empiricists, believes in Tabula rasa,
which states there are no such thing as innate ideas, and that we are all blank slates. We are only able
to fill this blank slate through experiences with our senses. Without experiencing something, we know
have knowledge, which makes sense. Back in the cave man days, our ancestors did not have science
or history books to know that fire keeps you warm when it is cold outside. They had to pretty much
figure it out on their own. They had to discover first how to make fire, then feel that the fire was hot,
then figure out that that the fire could keep them warm in

Naked Egg Experiment
My experiement was the naked egg experiment. The purpose of this project was to demonstrate the
effects of an acid vs. a neutral on an egg. To do that, I would see if both liquids were able to dissolve
the outer shell of a raw egg. This experiement required six household items: two bowls, two eggs,
vinegar, and water. The question that evolved was, what happens to an egg submerged in vinegar
(acid) vs. water (neutral)?
My hypothesis is that there will be a chemical reaction to the egg as result of the vinegar however the
egg in water will remain the same. I think this because vinegar is an acid, about 4% acetic acid, and
acids have the ability to break down certain subtances through a chemical reaction. Water is a neutral

Then place the other egg into a bowl and cover that egg with water. From this point, daily observation
as well as photographing the eggs took place monitoring for any changes to the egg s shell. The fourth
and final step was to drain the liquids, rinse each egg with water and observe for any visible changes.
My independent variable was the type of liquid used, my controlled variable was the same time of day
in the same amount of liquid, and my dependant variable was the time (days) in the liquid. Observing
the results, I could see that the water egg remained the same as predicted. The shell on the vinegar egg
had fully dissolved leaving a translucent appearing egg intact in only the membrane of the egg. Based
on everything I ve done as well as researched regarding this experiement, I can conclude that the
vinegar dissolved the shell due to the acid of the vinegar breaking down the calcium carbonate in the
egg shell constantly until it reaches the thin, clear membrane that the vinegar cannot break down.
This chemical reaction produced carbon dioxide gas resulting in fizz formation and after 4 days in the
solution, this reaction dissolved the entire egg shell. You see the same type of reaction when baking

hundred years many different ways of experiencing the campaigns have taken place. Newspapers,
radio, television, internet and social media websites have changed the ways we all have experienced

The standard parallels are 20 and 60 and between these distortion is minimal. This projection would
be particularly good as the base of a poverty map because the size of any area on the map is a true
proportion to its size on the earth. Poverty rate per 10,000 can be displayed in a dot density map. A dot
density shows the concentration of a quality in an area. One dot can represent every 10,000 people.
The map will not represent the results correctly if the areas are not in true proportion. Also, if areas are
not in the right proportion, countries that are larger will look less dense and countries that are smaller

Rhetorical Analysis Of Richard IIi s Black Legend
There is a clear pattern throughout history of propaganda, myths and contemporary sources clouding
the true reality of events. Richard III is seen to be one of England s most disputed kings; a monarch
who brings with him a legend of negative connotations. There are seen to be many arguments as to
whether or not the mischievous king was subject to be condemned by his black legend or fits the
description issued by keen Richard III adversaries. These sceptics see Richard depicted under the
black legend which in turn imply that he was the murderer of his own nephews in the tower, murderer
of his wife, Anne and wrongfully deposed Edward VI among many more brutal monarchical actions.
However, on the flipside the White Rose Richard society base his life around the ideologies that there
is little evidence to suggest the his blackened reputation, that historical facts have been clouded by
Tudor propaganda and superstition and that fundamentally that Richard s methods were no more or
less brutal than his contemporaries. The justification for both these opinions on Richard can be argued.
Play write, William Shakespeare is a huge influence among history in how certain historical figures
are presented through his works; Richard III was subject to a play by him and as a result is further
clouded by a cloak of negativity. Shakespeare s adaptation of Richard in his plays Richard III and
Edward VI: Part III illustrates him as a deformed Machiavellian brother, who was summoned

Title: Best gap wedge
With the short game accounting for more than 50% of shots you play in a round, improving your
wedge play is the first step to shooting a lower score. The wedge is the most important aspect when
playing golf. Acting as the goalkeepers of our game by saving us shots from both turf and sand, golf
wedges come in various lofts, finishes, bounce and grinds to help us get closer to the pin from
anywhere inside of 125 yards. Gap wedges range in loft from 50 to 55 degrees and are a compromise
between a pitching wedge and a sand wedge. A gap wedge is particularly critical to use today because
the 5 degree difference in degrees between the SW and PW in the 1960s has now grown to exactly 10
degrees. This has made room for golf club companies to respond by inventing a new club to fill the
gap , and of course, encourage us to buy more products.

regular shaft flex and is made with graphite. You don t have to swing much differently when using this

Why Does Hysteria Occur In The 1800 s
Women have been accused of being hysterical for centuries. Hysteria is defined as a psychoneurotic
disorder characterized by violent emotional outbreaks, disturbances of sensory and motor functions,
and various abnormal effects due to autosuggestion. Hysteria is not a condition that is specific to only
females (Hysteria). Although it is more common among women, men can also become hysterical in
their lifetime. This idea was proposed in the 1800s by a French neurologists named Jean Martin
Charcot. Charcot believed that hysteria was not a sexual disease that was only in women, he
concluded that it was in fact an inherited nervous disorder that affected both sexes (Hysteria). Hysteria
is a legitimate issue that exists today through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alters are distinct personalities with their own ways of thinking and behaving and they are all
different from the original personality. (Kasschau 462) One of her alters who appears in the series is
Bryce Craine; he is Tara s abusive Alter and he is based on her step brother who molested her when
she was younger. Bryce died in the 2002 from a self inflicted gunshot wound, but Tara is still affected
by him because of what he did to her when she was younger. Tara uses the presence of her other alters
to protect herself from Bryce (The United States). Tara is in fact hysterical, but traumatic events that
happened to her as a child caused a mental illness to occur. She doesn t change personalities willingly
because she s crazy; instead, she changes them because it is her own body s coping mechanism of

The Dangers of Space Travel
Science Fiction Synopsis
The earth s governments have determined that extraterrestrial colonization is an urgent priority for the
successful continuation of the human race. In order to advance this agenda, they conceive Project
Eden, a program to send a group of people to build an independent civilization on the extraterrestrial
planet. Eve 278B is one of the 10,000 test subjects in Project Eden. Upon her birth, she was selected
and taken away to a facility completely isolated from the rest of society, where she and the other
project subjects have been raised, educated, and trained for the sole purpose of preparing them for a
life outside of earth. This training includes preparing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, it is extremely difficult to send a human being into space. The space shuttle, which ferried
astronauts from earth to the International Space Station cost, on average, $1.5 billion dollars for each
of the 135 launches (Pielke Jr. 2007). Furthermore, the space shuttle had an operational altitude of less
than 600 miles, with the typical flight only reaching altitudes of around 250 miles (Jenkins 2006); for
missions beyond the International Space Station, the distance several orders of magnitude greater. On
average, it is 238,900 miles to reach the moon, and 140 million miles to reach Mars
(http://solarsystem.nasa.gov/planets/profile.cfm). The sheer amount of resources required to send a
person into space makes it exceptionally difficult and costly to do so. Consequently, it becomes
critical that the astronauts well being is accounted for when being sent on long term missions, both
from an ethical and financial perspective. This paper will address some of the hazards and health
concerns that arise due to long term space travel for human beings.
Zero Gravity Environments
About 50% of astronauts experience mild to severe motion sickness upon entering space; this
condition is referred as Space Adaptation Syndrome. Though it was initially thought of as a result of
weightlessness, studies done by the Delft University of Technology suggest that the transition between
different gravitational forces cause SAS (Nooij 2008). The symptoms are comparable to

Results And Data Analysis Plan Essay
Results
Data Analysis Plan The raw data were analyzed as the mean BOLD activations and their standard
deviations (Figure 5). Data were analyzed in 2 (Age) X 4 (Stimuli), within subjects analysis of
variance (ANOVA). Data regarding the face and scrambled face conditions were analyzed using a 2
(age) X 2 (Face Stimuli and Scrambled Face Stimuli), within subjects ANOVA. Data regarding only
the multi part and chain objects stimuli were then analyzed using a 2 (Age) X 2 (Multi Part Object,
Chain Object), within subjects ANOVA. Lastly, the relationship between the BOLD response to
familiar objects in 4 month olds and the BOLD response to faces at 4 month olds were analyzed using
a t test.
Descriptive Statistics There was very little difference between participants in regard to gender (Males,
n = 7, Females, n = 9) and race (White, n = 16). All of the infants were approximately 1 month old at
the first session (M = 1.1) and 4 months old (M = 3.9) at the second session.
Raw Data When examining the raw data, the average change in the BOLD signal for faces was
significant (1.8% change) whereas the BOLD signal for the other stimuli was not significant
(scrambled faces .35% change, familiar objects .37% change, novel objects .35% change) when the
infants were 1 month old. When the infants were 4 months old and measured a second time, the
average change was significant for face and familiar stimuli (1.75% and 1.25%). When measured the
second time, the change in BOLD signal remained

How Did Barack Obama Civil Rights Change
Changes
Barack Obama was sworn in as the 44th president of the United States of America on November 4,
2008. He was the first black man to be elected to office. Due to the Civil Rights Movement and
abolishment of slavery, African Americans gained many new freedoms and possibilities. African
Americans gained the right to vote, the right to get a quality education, and they were seen as equals to
the whites. This all eventually lead to the election of Barack Obama.
In 1863, President Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation, which abolished slavery in most
states and in 1965, the Voting Rights Act was passed. Is was not until the signing of the 13th
amendment that slavery was officially abolished in all fifty states. This allowed African Americans to
be free. They could now work for pay and own their own house without the fear and threat of slavery.
In 1965, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. had an intense meeting, where the contents of the Voting Rights
Act was being discussed and finalized. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. went back to Washington DC and
witnessed this Act become a bill. The Voting Rights Act was signed into law by President Johnson in
1965. It prohibited racial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Brown vs. Board of Education was discussed by congress in Topeka, Kansas in 1962. The United
States Supreme Court ruled in favor of Brown and decided to implement desegregation in schools all
across the nation. This allowed African Americans to receive a higher education. African Americans
could now go to any school of their choosing without being turned away because the color of their
skin was darker than white children. This further lead the way for Barack Obama becoming

Who Is Christopher Marlovian Authorship
The Marlovian Authorship Question So much has been said about Shakespeare, and his story so
mythic in its sweep, that it is difficult to understand the amount of mystery surrounding his life. For
the genius of Stratford on Avon, whose works are quoted only less frequently than the bible and whose
vocabulary is one of the largest in history, to have so little of his life documented leaves even his most
devoted disciples skeptical of his authorship. In fact as early as the eighteenth century scholars and
students alike have hypothesized that another poet and playwright may have been the true author of
Shakespeare s work. Among the candidates, Shakespeare s contemporary, Christopher Marlowe, has
attracted much attention since William Gleason Zeigler ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Marlowe was attempting to get his Master of Arts degree at Cambridge, the university was
unsure of giving him his award until the Privy Council commended him on his faithful dealing with
the queen. This has led many to believe that at some time Marlowe may have worked as a government
spy. For this reason and possibly because of his atheistic disposition, Marlowe had proper motivation
to fake his death. This theory has, in the minds of some, come to explain why Shakespeare s works
were not only similar to Marlowe s, but also started shortly after his death. The theory also
supplements the conspiracy where linguistic analysis fails. It explains the contrast in theme and tone
of Shakespeare s work because of Marlowe s exile after his faked death that is apparent in his sonnets.
Much like parts of Shakespeare s life, the facts surrounding Marlowe s death are far and few between.
Down to the very details of the knife fight that ended Marlowe s life, the accepted understanding of
the event is shallow at best. It is for this reason that and the Archer 4 fact that many of Shakespeare s
play take place in Italy, a place where he had never been, that many believe he fled to Italy. In
conclusion, the real identity behind some of the greatest works of literature has been a source of
inexcusable controversy for over 300 years. From the facts surrounding Shakespeare s life to the
shady understanding of Marlowe s death, many have been left wondering what to believe. Because it
is likely that no damning piece of evidence will ever be found, the mystery remains to be decided in
the mind of the skeptic and the question will be forever asked; Was it really

  • 2. Hunter S. Tompson and Gonzo Journalism Essay Hunter S. Tompson and Gonzo Journalism In the late sixties a young journalist and free lance novelist named Hunter S. Thompson (HST) emerged with a new, crazed and exaggerated brand of reporting. It was sooner or later referred to as Gonzo . HST s own definition of gonzo has varied over the years, but he still maintains that a good gonzo journalist needs the talent of a master journalist, the eye of an artist/photographer and the heavy balls of an actor and that gonzo is a style of reporting based on William Faulkner s idea that the best fiction is far more true than any kind of journalism (Carroll, page 192). Gonzo journalism has also been referred to as outlaw journalism, new journalism, alternative journalism, literary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Steadman s work will be found on the title page to this essay). As the deadline for the article approached, and with the article still incomplete, HST resorted to ripping out pages of his notebook and sending them to the editors. What resulted was the beginning of gonzo journalism. Many see gonzo journalism to be a variation of a theme, which began with new journalism in the 60 s, led primarily by author Tom Wolfe. (The Electric Kool Aid Acid Test, etc.) New Journalism was said to have broken all the rules of traditional journalism. The old style journalists were supposed to take an objective point of view in their articles. The new journalists were far more subjective, getting personally involved in the stories they were reporting. New journalism really isn t new at all. Objectivity has been the great myth of journalism. As hard as media sources try to be objective, they can never truly achieve it. Everything from space limitations (a journalist must decide what is and what is not important enough to fit into a column) to illustrations (this gives readers a non objective picture in their head about the issue) infringe on objectivity. New journalism and gonzo journalism alike pay no regard to the objectivity laws of journalism and instead focus their works very little on the facts but on the facts , as they ... • 3. Sandstone Country Club Incident Essay On an extremely hot August night at Sandstone Country Club, an incident occurred between a server and a cook. Roberto, the server, was not receiving great tips and was having a tough night with his tables, due to the high capacity of people getting dinner and the heat making customers and other workers impatient. When Dr. Steele and his table sat at one of his tables, he knew he had to try his hardest to keep him happy because he was a generous tipper but very critical if the service is bad. Almost everything that could go wrong with Dr. Steele s order went wrong. First, he ordered a special that had already run out for the night. Dr. Steele was already angry and ordered lamb, which Roberto knew would take a long time. When Dr. Steele asked for a second time to check on their food because his group had tickets to a play, Roberto went to Steve, the cook, and told him to stop making the lamb and make whatever was fastest. Steve was already getting angry with Roberto for shouting orders at him and blaming the cooks for his rough night, but told him he could make him a pasta dish. When Roberto relayed this news to Dr. Steele, he was fed up and his group left the restaurant. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the issue with Roberto had been addressed earlier and the cooks had tried to calmly talk to him, some problems may have been avoided. The action of firing Roberto shows his staff that he cannot accept an attitude like that in the workplace and will almost scare people into mouthing off to other co workers when they are angry, which is good because they won t anger their co workers. Giving disciplinary action to Steve is also necessary to convey the message that violence in the workplace is not acceptable either and will ensure that the staff thinks before they act on their anger in the ... Jim Hawkins, the main character of Treasure Island, is immensely transformed throughout many challenges, and the forces that cause them. The tragedy of death, the exhilaration of war, and the environment he was in greatly changed who Jim Hawkins was physically and mentally. The many battles Jim Hawkins was in strengthened him in many ways. When on his way to Treasure Island, Jim discovered that more than half the crew was plotting to destroy the captain and his loyal crew. (Stevenson 61) Soon, when land was reached, fight broke out. Jim had to adapt to what would be the first, but not the last battle of his life. (Stevenson 76) The conflicts that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Within the United States, the crisis undoubtedly resulted in a surge in poverty and unemployment, a significant drop in consumption, and the loss of trust in the capitalist economic system. Because of globalization, this crisis was felt through the intertwined global markets, affecting underdeveloped countries even more. Historical events from the past have taught us that financial crises such as the one we suffered during 2007 have occurred a vast number of times. From Mexico to Thailand, these financial crises have resulted in contagion worldwide, and have caused governments to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Banks would lend money to these prospective home buyers without checking the amount of incoming and concurrent assets that they owned in order to see if they would be able to repay the loan. These loans were then pooled and sold off to government financial institutions such as Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac. Slowly, the homeowners were unable to repay their loans, which forced them to either sell their homes at a lower price or foreclose, between September 2008 and September 2012 alone, 3.8 million U.S. property owners lost their homes (Balaam, 196). This severely increased the mortgage loss rates for both lenders and investors; it became known as the subprime mortgage crisis. Eventually, government financial institutions whom had bought these pooled mortgages filed for bankruptcy soon after, which had a chain effect reaction throughout the entire economic system both in the U.S. and around the world. Thus, it created what is now known as the most recent financial crisis. The U.S. government immediately issued emergency loans and tried to increase the money supply, they extended these emergency loans to over 700 banks in order to incentivize home, student, auto, and small business loans (Balaam, 194). • 7. Environmental Pollution In Honeybees Effects of global warming and pollution in honeybees. Pollination is one of the necessary processes to maintain global biodiversity along with nearly a third of the universal food production sector (1). European honey bees are known as one of the most significant pollinators in the western world but a decline in population management has been shown over the years (5). Declines in honey bee populations not only caused by poor supervision but can be attributed to pollution and combined effects of climate change (4). Intraspecific communication amongst honey bees has been negatively impacted by factors such as pollution of air (4), landscape alteration, the spreading of pathogens and agricultural intensification (5), along with the extreme temperature variation (1). Plant fitness is affected by the diminishing levels of volatile compounds which cause these pollinators to spend their energy ineffectively (4). Drastic measures will need to be set in place in order to preserve this genetically rich species and to maintain the ecosystems that are so valuable, not only for global biodiversity but for the multi billion agricultural industries as well (1). The honey bee is known for its genetic variability and plasticity in varying environmental conditions (1). • 8. Ragamuffin Gospel Reflection I have read 100% of the book in the past and 75% this time (some skimming). What I enjoy most/least about the text. This is the second time I have read The Ragamuffin Gospel by Brennan Manning (2005), and I still feel like it is a must read for any Christian. The first time I read this book I remember being awed by God s Grace for ragamuffins and how that relates to my interactions with people; when I showed God s grace, and when I did not. I still remember specific times when God reminded me how much he loved the broken and how I could be his hand outreached by being Jesus with skin on . I also remember specific times when I knew God was directing me to love on someone, and I for one reason or another, I did not. The first time I read Manning s book, I fell more in love with people because it helped get a glimpse of how much God loved a ragamuffin. Now that I am older and life has been harder, I read Manning s book in a different light. Unlike the first time, where I was reminded how much God loves others; this time it reminds me how much God loves me! Even though my faith has faltered, and I have had series of doubts and struggles with trust, God sill loves me. While reading the same words I did several years ago I am seeing things differently. What I learned. During the past year, I have been doing a great deal of stretching . I have sought out help to heal from past hurts and continue to look for ways to restore and grow. • 10. The Things They Carried Literary Analysis In The Things They Carried Tim O Brien relies heavily on lists as a literary device. O Brien focuses on three distinct types of lists. These lists include military equipment, personal items and emotional or psychological strain. The lists serve a higher purpose, O Brien uses these lists to introduce each character in the story and give the reader insight into what mattered most to each of the men. O Brien s use of lists as a means of character development then as a way to counteract the chaos and uncertainty of war sets The Things They Carried apart from other war literature. @ The first of these lists contained the necessities or near necessities including: can openers, pocket knives, heat tabs, watches, dog tags, mosquito ... Lieutenant Cross fantasizes about romantic trips with Martha to beautiful places as he trudged through swamps and forests. In, the evening Cross reads letters from Martha and contemplates her feelings for him. The thought of Martha is so prevalent in Lieutenant Cross s head, the war is hardly mentioned in the first few pages of the story. Even when Ted Lavender dies, it only takes up one sentence, before transitioning back to Martha. Even though she fills him with doubt, worry, love and longing; Lieutenant Cross would rather focus on Martha than the possibility of death. Martha is representative of the emotional baggage soldiers carry, To carry something was to hump it, as when Lieutenant Jimmy Cross humped his love for Marth up the hills and through the swamps (O Brien 5). O Brien, is showing readers that Lieutenant Cross is not only carrying the weight of his gear, but also the weight of his love for Martha. His love for Martha weighs heavy on his heart, and his thoughts about her seems to become an obsession. @ After Lavender s death, Lieutenant Cross struggles with guilt and his sense of reality. We only have limited information we received from the anthropologists. The information are based on the environment and climate they live in, the food they eat, their family and children, books and arts and their social aspect and attitudes toward war that the Eneon tribe are live in. According to the report provided by the anthropologists about Eneon, there are three words for terrain designating absolutely flat, rolling, and slightly hilly . Furthermore, as the Enoen have seven terms to describe the stages of life up to puberty and only one word from puberty to death, with this we can tell that they have many stages once the child is born till the day he or she is eighteen, and maybe only have 1 word for puberty to death, because at this point Eneon do not have anything else to explain; therefore the word woman are synonymous with wife and mother and man for husband and father with this information we can assume the adults will be taking care of all the children, and as they pass the puberty they are unable to gain new knowledge. It also appears that they have twenty words for books, so perhaps they are twenty stages of books they have to use through out their birth to death; therefore they are a very educated tribe. We can assume that Eneon people have very high pride in art. We can infer this because they have nine words for artist. They also seem to have many interests toward theater as well, as they have four words that mean theater. They have a word praise that is translated as peacemaker and conciliator ; we assume that they have a person in the tribe that is making sure that there are no fights between each person. There Are Many Theoretical Concepts Theoretical concepts There are many theoretical concepts to explain addictions, a few that I see being used in NA and AA meetings is the Disease Model, Social Learning Model, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. In both of the meetings I attended the members stood up and admitted they are powerless over their addiction. This falls in with the Disease Model. According to the disease model the addiction is in the individual s brain. Therefore, the addict is incapable of controlling their own use (Forcehimes, Miller Zweben, 2011, pg. 25). Research has also shown that certain individuals have a genetic risk factor that is likely to increase the likelihood of them developing an addiction. This put the blame on the addiction and not ... Another role that is used to help explain what shapes an addiction is Social Learning Model. Individuals modify their choices and use of substance in response to changes in the social environment (pg. 25). This is done by watching family members or friends use drugs or alcohol. It can also be done by going to parties or events, and drinking to feel comfortable. To overcome this the individual needs to change their relationships and social environment that makes them want to use. Individuals in the support groups are coming together to find a support from peers that don t encourage them to use substances. They work together and build each other up on their road to recovery. In both groups I witness love and support from everyone. If one person admitted they were struggling the member next them would put their arm around them and give them encouraging words. They become each other s support. Practice/Intervention Every addict has their own trigger that can push them towards relapse. For an addict to overcome their addiction they must understand what their triggers are. Through these fiction there began a makeover into what contemporary readers think as young adult literature. • 14. The Killings And Destruction Of Cultures Throughout The... History is told in many different ways, and the truth that lies in the stories told, can sometimes be blurred by different perspectives. Comparing four cases of genocide which formed in the United States, Australia, British India and German Southwest Africa, allows for a better comprehension of genocide as defined by the UN Convention. The four cases raise question as to why we can consider the cases to be genocide, and what similarities and differences each case has. Considering the UN definition , I acknowledge all but the British Indian case to be genocide. There are multiple similarities between the mass killings and destruction of cultures in the US, Australia, and German Southwest Africa, which align with the classification of genocide, but in the case of British India, it doesn t align. Using The Historiography of Genocide by Dan Stone, Victoria s Ghost by Mike Davis, To Kill A People by John Cox and Genocide by Adam Jones, I will articulate arguments about the genocides found in each case. In the year 1608, pilgrims arrived to Plymouth Rock, Massachusetts where Indians fed them and showed them hospitality. In return, the colonists brought Indians small poxes, among other diseases, which would decimate the Indian community. The plague of diseases caused a decrease in Indian population, from roughly 7 million to 237,000, and allowed for the settlers to expand. As concentration, and therefore thinking becomes more difficult for depressed individuals, a more simplistic form of therapy, may prove to be more appropriate to not only engage the client, but also keep their attention long enough to experience positive effects. Cognitive behavioural therapy is a structured style of therapy requiring direction from the clinician. Studies have found that the skill of the therapist is directly related to the outcomes of therapy (Strunk et al., 2010). As this style of therapy involves collaboration, as well as gentle direction by the therapist (Sudak, 2011), an incompetent therapist can lead to therapy not being tailored to the individual, therefore reducing therapeutic gains. Studies have found clients reported that at times they have felt under pressure to give particular answers when receiving CBT, or that therapy was not flexible (Barnes et al., (2013). Therefore a style of therapy that is flexible in nature, and directed toward areas that the client most wishes to work on may be more appropriate. The State Of The Dakota Access Pipeline Essay A battle of saving and maintaining clean water and sacred burial lands is what is at stake with the possible construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline (White). The Dakota Access Pipeline, or commonly known as DAPL on the Internet, is a 1,172 mile pipeline that would carry oil. The pipeline is being proposed to have a route that would travel through the Standing Rock Native American reservation (Donnella). The reservation spans across both North and South Dakota. The reservation is inhabited by Lakota and Dakota nations, or commonly known as the Sioux Native Americans ( History ). With the urgency of hindering the DAPL efforts in building the pipeline have come with protests from Native Americans and non Natives alike. Many of these peaceful protests from the Indigenous people have turned violent with the police pepper spraying and using forceful actions toward those that are fighting the pipeline ( Protests Over The Dakota Access Pipeline ). The protests have stopped, due to the battle over the construction of this pipeline is switching from the reservation to court (Richardson). Most recently, President Barack Obama decided to look for other routes for the project on Dec. 5, and to halt the constriction of the pipeline for the time being (Richardson). Being part of the Mexican culture is very different from other cultures, but every culture is unique of its own way. Many Mexican people have preserved and still do many of their ancestors traditions. Tradition plays a big role in my family for example: the food we eat, the music we listen to, what we dance to and what we celebrate to. I wanted a sweet sixteen but of course being Mexican my parents said no. Being in the Mexican culture tradition is that when you turn 15 you re supposed to have a Quinceanera it symbolizes that you are no longer a kid but you are now a young women. Many people think a Quinceanera is just a party but the real tradition is to have a church mass. Since I am catholic that consists of me going to church and thanking God. Social behaviors impact your life in many ways. You have roles and rules in your cultures. When you re with your friends you act a different way. When it has to do with family or church groups you have a role and rules and your behavior is different. Women and Males have different rules and roles. Within the first paragraph Bogard has already established a connection he himself feels with natural darkness. Through connected darkness with his memories in, At my family s cabin on a Minnesota lake, I knew woods so dark that my hands disappeared before my eyes. I knew night skies in which meteors left smoky trails across sugary spreads of stars, Bogard is able to invite the reader into understanding why he is fighting for the preservation of natural darkness and the connection he has with it. By allowing the reader this personal insight he is allowing for the reader themselves to connect to the natural darkness the way he had as a child as well as promote the reader to think of their own memories with darkness. By allowing this reminiscing, the author of the passage from the start allows for the reader to get pulled into his argument and understand his thoughts. Later on, more appeals to emotions are seen. Modern science is all about observing the natural world in order to understand and gain knowledge about what is going around us. I agree that humans do gain knowledge and form different kinds of ideas through our senses and different experiences. The reoccurring theme with John Locke s theory on modern science is the idea of the senses and how knowledge is made through sense data. • 40. Naked Egg Experiment My experiement was the naked egg experiment. The purpose of this project was to demonstrate the effects of an acid vs. a neutral on an egg. To do that, I would see if both liquids were able to dissolve the outer shell of a raw egg. This experiement required six household items: two bowls, two eggs, vinegar, and water. The question that evolved was, what happens to an egg submerged in vinegar (acid) vs. water (neutral)? My hypothesis is that there will be a chemical reaction to the egg as result of the vinegar however the egg in water will remain the same. I think this because vinegar is an acid, about 4% acetic acid, and acids have the ability to break down certain subtances through a chemical reaction. Water is a neutral ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Then place the other egg into a bowl and cover that egg with water. From this point, daily observation as well as photographing the eggs took place monitoring for any changes to the egg s shell. The fourth and final step was to drain the liquids, rinse each egg with water and observe for any visible changes. My independent variable was the type of liquid used, my controlled variable was the same time of day in the same amount of liquid, and my dependant variable was the time (days) in the liquid. Observing the results, I could see that the water egg remained the same as predicted. The shell on the vinegar egg had fully dissolved leaving a translucent appearing egg intact in only the membrane of the egg. Based on everything I ve done as well as researched regarding this experiement, I can conclude that the vinegar dissolved the shell due to the acid of the vinegar breaking down the calcium carbonate in the egg shell constantly until it reaches the thin, clear membrane that the vinegar cannot break down. This chemical reaction produced carbon dioxide gas resulting in fizz formation and after 4 days in the solution, this reaction dissolved the entire egg shell. You see the same type of reaction when baking ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The map will not represent the results correctly if the areas are not in true proportion. Also, if areas are not in the right proportion, countries that are larger will look less dense and countries that are smaller will look too dense. Sources Getty Research Institute (2000). • 43. Rhetorical Analysis Of Richard IIi s Black Legend There is a clear pattern throughout history of propaganda, myths and contemporary sources clouding the true reality of events. Richard III is seen to be one of England s most disputed kings; a monarch who brings with him a legend of negative connotations. There are seen to be many arguments as to whether or not the mischievous king was subject to be condemned by his black legend or fits the description issued by keen Richard III adversaries. These sceptics see Richard depicted under the black legend which in turn imply that he was the murderer of his own nephews in the tower, murderer of his wife, Anne and wrongfully deposed Edward VI among many more brutal monarchical actions. However, on the flipside the White Rose Richard society base his life around the ideologies that there is little evidence to suggest the his blackened reputation, that historical facts have been clouded by Tudor propaganda and superstition and that fundamentally that Richard s methods were no more or less brutal than his contemporaries. The justification for both these opinions on Richard can be argued. Play write, William Shakespeare is a huge influence among history in how certain historical figures are presented through his works; Richard III was subject to a play by him and as a result is further clouded by a cloak of negativity. Essay On Gap Wedge Goal: Review post Total word count in this document: 1011 Title: Best gap wedge With the short game accounting for more than 50% of shots you play in a round, improving your wedge play is the first step to shooting a lower score. The wedge is the most important aspect when playing golf. Acting as the goalkeepers of our game by saving us shots from both turf and sand, golf wedges come in various lofts, finishes, bounce and grinds to help us get closer to the pin from anywhere inside of 125 yards. Gap wedges range in loft from 50 to 55 degrees and are a compromise between a pitching wedge and a sand wedge. A gap wedge is particularly critical to use today because the 5 degree difference in degrees between the SW and PW in the 1960s has now grown to exactly 10 degrees. This has made room for golf club companies to respond by inventing a new club to fill the gap , and of course, encourage us to buy more products. Hysteria is not a condition that is specific to only females (Hysteria). Although it is more common among women, men can also become hysterical in their lifetime. This idea was proposed in the 1800s by a French neurologists named Jean Martin Charcot. The space shuttle, which ferried astronauts from earth to the International Space Station cost, on average, $1.5 billion dollars for each of the 135 launches (Pielke Jr. 2007). Furthermore, the space shuttle had an operational altitude of less than 600 miles, with the typical flight only reaching altitudes of around 250 miles (Jenkins 2006); for missions beyond the International Space Station, the distance several orders of magnitude greater. On average, it is 238,900 miles to reach the moon, and 140 million miles to reach Mars (http://solarsystem.nasa.gov/planets/profile.cfm). The sheer amount of resources required to send a person into space makes it exceptionally difficult and costly to do so. Consequently, it becomes critical that the astronauts well being is accounted for when being sent on long term missions, both from an ethical and financial perspective. This paper will address some of the hazards and health concerns that arise due to long term space travel for human beings. Zero Gravity Environments About 50% of astronauts experience mild to severe motion sickness upon entering space; this condition is referred as Space Adaptation Syndrome. He was the first black man to be elected to office. Due to the Civil Rights Movement and abolishment of slavery, African Americans gained many new freedoms and possibilities. Who Is Christopher Marlovian Authorship The Marlovian Authorship Question So much has been said about Shakespeare, and his story so mythic in its sweep, that it is difficult to understand the amount of mystery surrounding his life. For the genius of Stratford on Avon, whose works are quoted only less frequently than the bible and whose vocabulary is one of the largest in history, to have so little of his life documented leaves even his most devoted disciples skeptical of his authorship. In fact as early as the eighteenth century scholars and students alike have hypothesized that another poet and playwright may have been the true author of Shakespeare s work. When Marlowe was attempting to get his Master of Arts degree at Cambridge, the university was unsure of giving him his award until the Privy Council commended him on his faithful dealing with the queen. This has led many to believe that at some time Marlowe may have worked as a government spy. For this reason and possibly because of his atheistic disposition, Marlowe had proper motivation to fake his death. This theory has, in the minds of some, come to explain why Shakespeare s works were not only similar to Marlowe s, but also started shortly after his death. The theory also supplements the conspiracy where linguistic analysis fails. It explains the contrast in theme and tone of Shakespeare s work because of Marlowe s exile after his faked death that is apparent in his sonnets. Much like parts of Shakespeare s life, the facts surrounding Marlowe s death are far and few between. Down to the very details of the knife fight that ended Marlowe s life, the accepted understanding of the event is shallow at best. It is for this reason that and the Archer 4 fact that many of Shakespeare s play take place in Italy, a place where he had never been, that many believe he fled to Italy.
