How Does Walter Mitty Escape His Fantasies
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is a short story by James Thurber, is a story of man who goes
through an ordinary life fantasizing about a secret life where everything is great for him. In his
fantasies Walter Mitty is everything he isn t in real life. Mitty uses these fantasies to forget the
things he dislikes about his reality. Walter s life isn t anything special and he goes into his
fantasies to escape from the fact that he is insecure/shy, he s being bossed around by his wife,
and he can t do simple tasks. The first reason why Walter Mitty escapes his fantasies is because
he is not confident, or able to stand up for himself in real world. For example in the text Mrs.
Mitty asks Walter, Why don t you wear your gloves? (232) and he puts them on. As soon as she
leaves, though, he takes them off. This demonstrates that Walter... Show more content on

When he is entering a parking lot, the parking attendant tells Walter, Wrong lane Mac...leave her
sit there, I ll put her away (233). Mitty had entered the wrong lane, and he couldn t back up
properly. This event shows the incompetency in real life that Walter has, and how he struggles
with everyday tasks. He also talks to the parking attendant in a low, nervous voice. Walter isn t
calm person in real life. Walter Mitty makes up for these mistakes in his another fantasy by
becoming a famous surgeon. He imagines saving the life of a millionaire, and president friend.
Thurber writes how the other doctors in Mitty s fantasy tell him, No one in the East knows how
to fix it (233). Mitty responds in calm voice and takes over. This shows how in his fantasies
Walter Mitty is calm since being a surgeon requires complete concertation and calmness. He is also
able to take on difficult tasks in his fantasy unlike reality. Mitty fantasizes to fight the reality of him
being inept and scared in the real

Essay On Coronary Artery Anomaly
A coronary artery anomaly (CAA) is defined as a congenital coronary artery malformation in the
absence of other congenital cardiac defects. As we continue to lack a screening tool to diagnose
CAAs, catheter directed angiography remains the gold standard both for diagnosis and treatment
of CAAs. Intervening CAAs continues to remain a complicated task even in the hands of
experienced operators. The greatest challenged faced in the management of CAAs is a delay in
recognition largely due to the element of surprise associated with their low prevalence. Other major
factors which pose a challenge during CAA interventions are the location of the coronary ostium
within the aorta, the proximal course of the vessel, and angulation of the vessel. We discuss... Show

Initial electrocardiogram (EKG) revealed normal sinus rhythm with non specific T wave
abnormalities in the lateral leads. Serial troponin I were 7.050, 10.9, 29.7 consistent with Non ST
segment Myocardial Infarction (NSTEMI) and coronary angiography was planned. An FL4 (Boston
Scientific) catheter was used to engage the left coronary artery, which demonstrated a patent Left
main (L) giving rise to the Left anterior descending(L) and ramus arteries, both with minimal
disease. An FR4(Boston Scientific) catheter was used to engage the Right coronary artery RCA
which gave rise to the posterior descending artery (PDA) and posterolateral branches (PLB), all
with minimal disease. Surprisingly, the Left circumflex artery LCx was found to originate from
the proximal RCA and was totally occluded at its proximal segment. We used a multipurpose
catheter to engage the RCA . Subsequently, the LCx lesion was crossed with a Whisper wire and
a Runthrough wire(Terumo) in a buddy technique was utilized to provide additional support. A
2.0 x 12 mm Emerge balloon was used to dilate the proximal LCx and the mid LCx lesion. This
was followed by the deployment of a 2.5 x 32 mm Promus Premier Stent (Boston Scientific) to the
proximal left circumflex

Explain how you would enforce the data constraint that HW7G_ORDER_ITEM.UnitPrice be equal
to HW7G_SERVICE.UnitPrice, where HW7G_ORDER_ITEM.Service =

We would use a interrrelation constraint to enforce the data constraint. An interrrelation constraint
can be used to set it so UnitPrice will equal each other.
F.Insert all of the following data into the tables, using the CustID Sequence where appropriate:
The data used here is essentially the same data used in Chapter Two. Note that a Sales Tax Rate is

My Experience With Hearing Loss
For eight hours, I got to step into the shoes of over 48 million Americans who live with a hearing
loss. I had the opportunity to experience what it means to have an invisible impairment in a world
made for those who have good hearing. The bright orange earplug served as my ticket to one of the
most humbling adventures I have ever undertaken. I would have never imagined that a 32dB
unilateral hearingloss would cause so much frustration. With frustration, however, came
understanding and empathy. I am now confident that my experience will aid me in developing
accurate expectations and treatment plans to my future clients. I, like many, know several
individuals with a hearing loss. I have seen the devastation a hearing loss can cause for someone
who is used to experiencing the many joys of clear sound. As I placed the earplug in for the first
time, I braced myself. I immediately compared my temporary hearing loss to those with a
permanent hearing loss and could only think about how challenging my life was going to be for the
next few hours. I knew that my communicationskills were going to be impaired and my value as a
communication partner was going to take a nosedive. One of the senses that I rely on every day
was reduced and it felt like a part of me was missing. While I have experienced small hearing
losses due to cerumen buildup, this was by far one of the most severe losses. As I went through
the first couple minutes with the earplug in, I wondered if I would be able

Key Results Of Testing For Ppp
5 Empirical Findings
5.1 Introduction
Following the methodology section, this chapter is going to present the main findings of the
PPP test and relevant information, graphs and tables will be shown as well. The purpose of this
part is to provide key results of testing for PPP in order to facilitate the following detailed
discussions. It is no doubt that this section can be viewed as the core of the whole project
because it depends on a variety of econometric tools to evaluate the financial data. The findings
consist of two major aspects: the one is on the examine of the APPP, namely the strong version of
PPP; the other is on the test of the RPPP, also known as the weak form of PPP.
5.2 Findings of Testing for APPP
As stated earlier, the APPP is based on the law of one price, stating that the real exchange rateis
equal to one. The formula is expressed as:
For the convenience of our research, the equation above can be simplified to:
where Et represents the nominal bilateral exchange rate, Pt* is the CPI in Japan, Pt means the
Indian CPI.
Before analysing, what should do is to transmute the raw data into the natural logarithm form.
According to Jia and Rathi (2008), the major cause of transformation is that taking natural
logarithms not only indicates the elasticity of economic variables, but eliminates the issue of
heteroscedasticity efficiently. If an econometric model is heteroscedastic, the test of significance
for variables will be meaningless and the parameter

Essay On African American Stereotypes
Stereotype can be defined as a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a
particular type of person or thing . Seemingly, stereotyping different races or even genders have
become the norm. Society in itself likes to classify, label anything that is even remotely
considered different. It is as if society just sits there and picks apart an individual whether it be a
characteristic or information just to get a glimpse of what that person is all about. Whilst
stereotyping may seem normal it affects a large amount of people especially African Americans.
Television and movies play such a huge role in our culture. We tend to assert certain characters
from movies and television shows to different groups of people. Stereotypesare there for a reason I
suppose. Over time, as a human race we have found certain similarities within different races that
we can connect with and use to distinguish between ourselves and create a better understanding
as to what the person is likely to be like, before actually getting to know them. African American
women are considered to be always angry, rude, have father issues and are way too emotional.
Women are to cater to a man s needs, not strive to be bigger than a man and if she does then she s
seen as a bitch, dominating and does not look towards her priorities which are marriage,... Show

Hinduism And Buddhism Essay
3.1.16 S.Reilly Term 2 Exam Essay In this term, I started Faith Traditions class and we learned
about the Hinduism and Buddhism and the eight elements of religion: Belief System,
Community, Central Myths, Ritual, Ethics, Characteristic Emotional Experience. The way
Belief System(world view), Ethics, and Sacredness in Buddhism can be compared and
contrasted to my own philosophy is intriguing. I believe that I agree with not all, but some of the
elements of Buddhism, but where I do differ, I differ greatly. Buddhism s World View can be
summed up by the Three Marks of Reality. The Marks are Change ( life s constant change, or
impermanence ), No Permanent Identity ( no self ), and Suffering ( dissatisfaction [with life] )
(Molloy pg. 132 134). Change is that life is always subtly changing second to second. No
Permanent Identity is that each person and each thing is not only changing but is made up of
parts that are also constantly changing (Molloy pg. 133) Lastly, Suffering is the fact that life,
when lived conventionally, can never be fully satisfying because of its inescapable change
(Molloy pg. 134). Now, my world view is similar to Buddhism and it also comprises of three parts.
The parts are that the world is always in turmoil, we can never be... Show more content on

Buddhism has very deep concern with things that are sacred which they have many of. Statues of
Buddha, temples(monasteries), written works(Tripitaka, Mahayana Sutras), ect. Buddhism is big
on sacred objects. I personally feel that sacredness is less about the spirituality/mysticism or the
dedication to the religion of an object/place, but more of the importance of the object to a person.
Things that are sacred in a religious sense are incredibly important to the religion(everyone in that
religion), but really anything can be sacred. To me, sacredness depends on perspective. An Atheist
might not consider the Rig Vedas to be sacred, but the work of Stephen Hawking might be to them,

Enrique s Journey, My Head
The entire time I was reading Enrique s Journey, I kept asking myself, What would I do? If my
mother left me to go to another country when I was five, would I try to find her years later?
Would the abandonment and neglect by my family members lead me to resort to drugs? Would I
make an eighth attempt to cross the border of the United States after my first seven attempts
failed? These, and many other questions, ran through my head as I read Enrique s Journey, the
story of a Honduran teenage boy s attempt to reunite with his mother, Lourdes, after she leaves
him for the United States. Lourdes, a single mother, leaves her children with obviously good
intentions she wants to get a better job and send money back to her children, but it is hard not to
resent her a little. As I was reading, I kept trying to think of ways Lourdes could have stayed with
her family in Tegucigalpa, Honduras and still have sufficiently provided for them. Maybe there
could have been a way, but Lourdes obviously did not think there was. Leaving her family is not
easy for Lourdes; she cannot even take a picture of Enrique with her because it would make her
too sad, but she feels that this is the only way to give her children more than she had. Enrique
decides to make his first effort at crossing the border on his sixteenth birthday. Unfortunately, he is
robbed and arrested by Mexican immigrationofficers, la migra. Enrique s experience is not unique

The Role of Animals in the Unbearable Lightness of Being...
Since animals, usually pets, are sometimes an essential part of one s life, it is not surprising that
we find frequent references to its role in works of social realism, such as Wislawa Szymborska s
Poems New and Collected and Milan Kundera s Unbearable Lightness of Being. Animals in
literature could be used to symbolize all sorts of things, but in particular, animals may represent the
personality of a character. This is because as humans and animals co exist in the same atmosphere,
certain aspects of a character reveal themselves in the compassion or even hatred towards the
animal. Since animals are often known to trigger the interests of humans, the attitude of the humans
towards the animals contributes much to character revelation. Both... Show more content on

A life that never ends?
He d turn his ruddy rump as if to say
Such life he neither bans nor recommends
We can see the monkey as a god now, a figure that even has power to give life that never ends, such
a contrast after the total mistreatment, above. We see how the animals determine human
characteristics: either overly mistreating, or overly obsessed.
In the poem, Cat in an empty apartment, Szymborska again criticizes the uncaring characteristic of
humans and the role of animals in the poem as a mere irritation or a vexation.
Die В– you can t do that to a cat
Since what can a cat do in an empty apartment?
Climb the walls?
Rub against the furniture? В…
From this we can perceive that animals in Szymborska s poems serve to prove that in their co
existence with humans, they are treated unfairly and the human characteristics of cruel superiority
over animals are evident in the works.
Later in the Unbearable Lightness of Being, Tomas and Tereza moves to a collective farm in Rural
Czechoslovakia after the Soviet takeover of 1969 to avoid the hardships caused by Tomas
criticism of the former Czechoslovak communist regime. There, they befriend the chairman of the
collective farm, who like Tereza, shares a close relationship with an animal companion: a pig
named Mephisto, which has been raised like a dog. Even though in the farms animals are
purposely raised to be slaughtered for eating use, Mephisto is treated like his best friend, even
going so far as to imagine

Network Attacks Using New And Effective Modern Day...
The primary objective of this project is to detect and mitigate various network attacks using new
and effective modern day technologies. 1) Software Defined Networking (SDN) is one of the
start of art technology that will be used in this project to mitigate the attacks like Denial of
Service attacks. 2) It will also help in controlling the data and control plane of the networking
devices, which will enable more options to enhance the security. Implementation of security
measures in SDN can free a network from several network attacks like Denial of Service (DoS)
attacks. Another point to be noted is that, if an administrator had to upgrade the security measures
in a traditional network, he would have to configure all the networking equipment separately with
the required security measures. If the administrator needs to make any future changes to the
network, he would have to again have to update on each and every device separately. This method
demands a lot of resources and time. But the implementation of these security measures in a SDN
controller can lead to updating all the devices in the network at one go. This leads to mitigating
different kinds of network attacks at one go. This is the objective of this project. 1.4 Literature
Survey: A. Software Defined Networking (SDN): The implementation of this project makes use of
a lot of modern technologies. However, the state of art technology in this project is Software

An Definition Of Public Relations
Introduction
Public relations today is a complex profession practiced by hundreds of thousands of people
around the world. Some public relations professionals are employed by a single organization.
Others work for public relations firms that have many organizations as clients. Public relations
people work for businesses, government agencies, professional and trade associations, nonprofit
charities, schools and universities, hospitals, hotels, and many more types of industries. Unlike the
practice of other professional fields, such as law and medicine, there are no regulations, but there is
great responsibility
Defining Public Relations
For many decades both PR academics and practitioners have struggled to construct a single
definition of what public relations actually are. In 1976, Rex Harlow made a bold attempt to
summarize just what public relations are. Harlow started by identifying and analyzing as many
definitions of public relations as he could. He ended up examining 472 definitions that had been put
forth by other academics, practitioners and scholars since the early days of the twentieth century
and interviewing nearly 100 current professionals. Out of that impressive research Harlow
combined their common elements to produce the first global definition of public relations, quoted
below:
Public Relations is the distinctive management function which helps establish and maintain mutual
lines of communication, understanding, acceptance and co operation between an

This geological landscape was the Great Ice Age. Michigan was affected by the Wisconsin Glacier
which was an extremely huge ice mass. It stretched from its tip of the Hudson Bay, and its
bottom down by the lower end of the Ohio River. While the climate was changing and not
warming up, the meltwater from the glacier carried rocks and soils afar. This created low hills
across the state of Michigan. The grinding of boulders created particles of various sizes and

streams. The weight of that glacier over Michigan was gradually becoming smaller. The earth
began to act like a sponge. The Michigan landscape began to emerge. Plants began to spring up on
the landscape and formed into suitable growing environments. These environments made it a place

Richard Samuelian Research Paper
INTRODUCTION In 1928, when he was 11 years old, Richard Samuelian lived Fresno,
California. Here in Fresno, it is usually very calm, but not when he was 11. Richard lived
through prejudice for being Armenian, being guinea pigs for teachers at school and other
things. He also did many other risky and serious things such as building boats and working on
other projects. Richard did all this and still had time to mess around with his friends.
BACKGROUND Richard Samuelian, my Grandpa, is an 89 year old Armenian man. He has
lived in Fresno, California for his entire life. In 1928, when he was 11, lived an interesting life.
Richard had 2 older brothers named Harold and Morris. Morris is currently 99 however Harold

Ecocritical Analysis Of Nehru
Abstract: The main objective of this study is to attempt an ecocritical analysis of Jawaharlal
Nehru s Glimpses of World History. Jawaharlal Nehru (1889 1964) is one of the greatest statesmen
and writers of the twentieth century. He has written a number of books of which Glimpses of
World History is an outstanding contribution to Indian Literature in English. His letters to his
daughter clearly reveal Nehru s interest on ecocritical tropes and his ecological sensibility. As a
lover of nature, he imparts this characteristic to his daughter, Indira Gandhi too. Ecocriticism has
gained the attention of many scholars over the last three decades throughout the world. It depicts
the relationship between human and nature depiction of nature in literature. This theory has been
gaining popularity day by day because of the ecological disaster which the humans witness in
everyday life. This study analyses the letters of Nehru from an ecocritical point of view by using
various ecocritical tropes like wilderness, pastoral, animals, and pollution and apocalypse (ecocide)
for understanding the ecological sensibility of Nehru. This study s approach is to concentrate on

Comparable Worth
Introduction: The debate in this study is that of whether or not to use comparable worth as the
basis for future pay adjustments. Comparable worth, as defined by Merriam Webster, is the
concept that women and men should receive equal pay for jobs calling for comparable skill and
responsibility or that is of comparable worth to the employer. To further expand on this, the term
comparable worth describes the idea that gender biased jobs should be reanalyzed to determine
their worth to an employer. In theory, the goal of comparable worth is to raise wages for
traditionally female biased jobs to the level of those for comparable male biased jobs. Comparable
worth should not be confused with equal pay for equal work. Comparable worth... Show more

Therefore, different job evaluation systems and different job evaluators are likely to assign
different rankings to the same set of occupations. Recommendations: After careful consideration
of the relevant facts of this case, my recommendation would be to deny the request of future
wage adjustments based upon comparable worth. This recommendation is being made in light
of several key factors. The first factor is that under comparable worth, employers would be
required to set wages to reflect differences in the worth of jobs, with worth largely determined by
job evaluation studies, not by market forces. This sounds good in theory, however, it will put
the organization at a distinct disadvantage. According to Ann Barres, The size of a worker s
paycheck would be unrelated to supply/demand conditions in the labor market. Therefore
comparative worth could artificially inflate wages in some jobs and thereby attracting more
people than the market could absorb. Any radical restructuring of pay scales would place an
unfair burden on employers by raising their costs, and would unfairly impinge upon their freedom
to earn their livelihood as they choose(2). On the other hand if there was a shortage of workers in
one job, the employers hands would be tied as they could not raise the wages as to attract more
applicants. The next issue is that of determining comparative worth. Given the large number and
diversity of jobs being rated, it is unlikely that

Charlemagne Vs Byzantine Church Essay
The early Byzantine church of San Vitale and the Medieval Palatine Chapel of Charlemagne both
have strong ties to the Holy Roman Empire, particularly through their style and function. More
significantly, they served as symbols of Imperial authority. While there are a few key differences in
the churches style and structure, their message stood clear Emperor Justinian I and Emperor
Charlemagne had the God given right to rule and the revival of the Imperial Roman Empirewas in
full force.
With the decline of ancient Rome, a new Second Rome was being established in 324 AD in the
East. Constantinople was the new capital and its Emperor, Constantine the Great, began to lay the
groundwork for the Christianization of the Roman Empire. His eagerness to promote Christianity
and provide places of veneration led to the building of churches, basilicas and mausoleums. After
his death in 337 his sons took power. Next, Emperor Theodosius ruled and at his death in 395,
divided the Empire into an East and West between his two sons. Fast forward to the sack of Rome
by nomadic German tribes in 410, Ravenna (present day Italy) was made the new Western capital.
Meanwhile, the Byzantine Empire in the East survived and in 527, Justinian I became its new
emperor.

Servicemen And Women Be Able To Keep Dogs Essay
Should all servicemen and women be able to keep the dogs that they trained? I honestly think
that servicemen and women should be able to keep their dogs. I think this because these service
people took a lot of time out of their day of working to train their dogs. Also these people train
their dog to the way of their liking and the way they are helpful to them. These dogs should only
have one trainer or owner. I also think it would be really hard for someone new to get a doglike this
and be able get true obedience. They owner s happiness reflects on the dog also, it knows what
makes the owner happy and what it should do to help them. If someone new was to get a already
trained dog I think it would be harder for them to make the dog happy! therefor I think that the dog
should never be taken away from their true owner/trainer.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

they need to be done! At the end of whatever happens I just hope that the dog and the owners

Digging Seamus Heaney Tone
Seamus Heaney grew up with hard physical labor running through his veins. Both his father and
his grandfather made a living working jobs that were physically demanding. Heaney s family
really shaped his work ethic and contributed greatly to his success as a writer. However, Heaney
s family isn t the only contributing factor to his hard work and popularity as a poet. Growing up,
Heaney was immersed in violent, political warfare between leading religious sects. That
upbringing significantly contributed to his style as a writer as well. Heaney soon realized that
warfare does not only come in the form of physical battle, it also comes in the form of language
and writing. The poem, Digging by Heaney shows how he finally comes to understand the necessity

More importantly, how good of a job his father and grandfather do at such taxing, physical jobs.
Heaney says, My grandfather cut more bricks of peat in a day/ Than any other man on Toner s
bog. (17 18) In these lines, Heaney is trying to build a connection between what his father and
grandfather do, to what he does as a writer. That even though Seamus Heaney s job as a writer is
much different than what his family does, he will work harder than anyone else at it because
that s how he was raised. Seamus believes he is going to be better than any other man in his field
of work. He believes this because that s what was exampled to him, he wants to make his family
proud, even if his line of work is different than theirs. This thought process leads Heaney into his
last words of the poem, in them he states, Between my finger and my thumb/ The squat pen rests.
/ I ll dig with it. (29 31) Heaney reiterates what he previously said in his first two lines. Which
ends his poem with the same connotative language, that holds the same tone and tactile imagery.
However in these last lines, Heaney replaces snug as a gun with I ll dig with it. This slight change
in syntax, goes from a tone setting simile, to a much deeper, thought provoking metaphor. Heaney
chooses to do this because its connotative writing is almost empowering to read. It oozes the same

From Homer’s Odyssey to Star Wars
From Homer s Odyssey to Star Wars The Unchanging Path of the Hero
In the fiction world heroes have been one of the most entertaining figures. It has always been fun
and interesting to read about heroic stories and about different obstacles that heroes had overcome.
When someone mentions the word hero it is more likely to think of characters like Batman or James
Bond, but it is for sure that if we had the chance to ask the same question centuries before, the
answer would have been different. From comics or TV it is seen that heroes change physically and
spiritually through time, but the heroic pattern stays always the same when moving from ancient
times to today s heroes.
The first hero whose pattern I am going to unfold is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Later he faces the sphinx and defeats her by answering her riddle. This is a heroic act,
considering that nobody else in the kingdom could find an answer to that riddle. This victory
makes him a king and he marries with his mother just like mentioned in the beginning of the story.
This shows the difficulties he has to face. At the end of the story he is realizes his sins and
punishes himself This part can be considered as his redemption, defeating the most difficult
opponent he had ever faced: himself (Green 73).
The second hero I want to give as an example of heroic pattern from ancient times is Perceval
who is a knight of King Arthur s court. In Perceval s case heroic pattern is again starts with a
journey and the reason here is Perceval s need to find his mother, whom he left years ago to
become a knight. He enters the unknown in search for his mother and just like a classical hero;
he faces trials on his way. He fights other knights and defeats them. In his journey he comes
across the Fisher King who is wounded and cannot walk and the king offers a feast for him and
he accepts. During the dinner he sees a grail which is supposed to have great healing powers and
a bleeding lance. Unfortunately, Perceval doesn t ask the king the reason who does the Grail serve
and why does the lance bleed.

How To Write An Essay On Puerto Rico
This week with it being cold here in Omaha, I thought of a warm place in the Caribbean. It has

Conflict Theory On Society And Human Behavior
Conflict theory is the view that the struggle for power in society and human behavior in social
contexts results from conflicts between competing groups (Siegel, 2015, pg.198). Ted Bundy
always acted alone in his crimes and was never a part of any group that suffered discrimination
or oppression by the government. Dr, Carlisle observed that Bundy was a private person who
won t open up and reveal himself to others. He doesn t want to be known by others (Ramsland,
2011, pg. 113). The most Bundy ever did was volunteer during his high school and early college
years in local political races. Politics gave me the opportunity to be close to people, he said. To
be socially involved with them... as a consequence of working with them. You get very close.
You drink each night and people sleep with each other. It s a sort of built in social life...In
politics you can move between the various strata of society. You can talk and mingle with people
to whom otherwise you would have absolutely no access (Michaud Aynesworth, 2000, pg. 11).
Marxist or Radical theory The Marxists theory was developed by Karl Marx who believed that
modern capitalism had turned workers into a dehumanized mass who lived an existence that was
at the mercy of their employers which led him to conclude that the character of every civilization
is determined by its mode of production (Siegel, 2015, pg. 199). Richard Quinney derived the
radical theory which is derived from the Marxist theory and describes how

Crime Is Everywhere In America
Crime is everywhere in America. Different places react in different ways to the same ideas. The
question being asked is, Are certain policies and procedures effective and/or ineffective and why?
In my opinion, crime prevention is measured not by methods and intentions, but by the outcome of
the procedure/policy. Honestly, no matter how brilliant the policy or procedure may be, the result
will not be the same in one place than it is in another. For example, training policein community
policing may not directly reduce crimein the community. In order to learn whether certain policies

The Physics Of Underwater Welding
Underwater welding has always fascinated me, especially when I heard about it during my time as
a welding student at Arizona Automotive Institute (AAI). The history behind it has always grasped
my attention for some time now. I always wanted to know more about underwater welding such as
the history, how it works, what it is used for, and the dangers that are associated with the job.
Konstantin Khrenov was a Soviet Engineer, who would later make history by inventing underwater
welding. Khrenov was born in 1894 in Borovsk, Russia. He got his education at Saint Petersburg
State Electrotechnical University (ETU), where he learned about electric welding, engineering, and
mathematics. He had also taught and did research at ETU until 1925.
Underwater welding was not a thing people attempted during the 20th century, because shooting
an electric arc into the water was considered suicide. Although, Khrenov had a desire to find a
way to weld underwater, but faced many challenges such as, trying to find the sporadic outflow of
gas bubbles which would cause major porosity or build up in the welds. During this time, he and
others did research and testing to create a waterproof coating for the electrodes for stable power.
Once he completed this, he tested out the electrodes.
After constant testing and practice he became successful at creating underwater welding in 1932.
Many people were enthused about the idea that two scientists wrote two articles about his
accomplishments. The Navy

The overall threat is usually spun so that a majority of the citizens experience the fear it is meant
to create. A big part of creating this fear is deciding on what words to use when presenting the
enemy to the public. The language used to convey the nature of the threat is different in a
country such as Spain than it is in America (Wolf). For example, the citizens of Spain are told
that there is a grave security threat whereas American citizens are lead to believe, that we are
potentially threatened with the end of civilization. Of course, this makes us [Americans] more
willing to accept restrictions on our freedoms (Wolf). The tactic of using different words to feed
off larger fears of the public allows the leader to control a larger majority. It also allows them to
exaggerate the fears of the nation by using more frightening and drastic words.
Trump terrifies people into supporting him by preaching the horrors of the world and then
promising them protection from the violence. (Donald Trump s Campaign of Fear) This fear tactic
has been used by many dictators in the past, because it is so easily enacted. The leader presents an

Many people have different believes and ideas about Wikipedia, therefore, some tend to think of it

Going straight to the source is the best way to check if the information in the article is reliable and
credible.
A New Tool to Check the Quality of Articles German professor Stock created a new tool that
allows checking the quality of articles posted on Wikipedia and stated,
Wiki Watch serves as a research tool indicating lack of sources and evaluating the reliability of
every entry made, using WikiTrust s color code system to display reputation of a text according
to the reputation and number of revisions by users. Wiki Watch analyzes every Wikipedia entry
ever created in a few seconds, checks the number of sources used in the article and the quality of
editing (para. 2). Wiki Watch uses a color codes system to check the reputation of the article by
figuring out how many times people revised the article. White color means reliable information;
therefore, yellow color has an opposite meaning. This system also checks for the credibility of the
article and emphasizes individual words used in the article.
Many Editors to Correct the Errors Wikipedia counts 75,000 editors who check the articles and
their content to make sure that the information is valid and reliable. According to Schaffer (2009),
the journal Nature conducted a study in 2005 and proved that Wikipedia is just as valid as any
other encyclopedia, including Britannica, keeping in mind that errors and vandalism can occur to
any of them (para. 2).

Baruch Spinoza Research Paper
Baruch Spinoza was a dutch philosopher in the late 1600s who is mostly known for his ethics.
Spinoza s ideology was very much influenced by RenГ© Descartes. His idea was to try and
reinvent religion. Which means that it would have to be a discipline that would have to be far more
impersonal, scientific and far more counseling and not based on superstition. Spinoza s metaphysics
consists of one thing, substance, and its modifications. Spinoza argues that there is only one
substance making up this universe, which is absolutely infinite, self caused, and eternal. He calls
this substance God. Spinoza s main point that he has been arguing with his ethics were aimed
towards the jewish religion as that is what he once was before he gradually stepped away from it.
From when they were first published to now, Spinoza s ethics have influenced many people.

Similarities Between Martin Luther King Jr And Malala Youfzai
Your Intro:
According to Martin Luther King Jr, Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable... Every
step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggles (brainyquote.com).
This is a very powerful quote because if you do not struggle or sacrifice in life, when come to a
point where you have to make decisions or take action, you re not going to be able to decide
what to do or think. This is how we progress and go forward, because we make mistakes and
learn from them to make things better in the world around us. In fact, Dr. King s quote suggests
that struggle often motivates change. For example, Many activists have been motivated by their
personal struggles. These are people who can truly speak for their cause, because they lived it,and
really understand what they say and do. Activists who were motivated by their personal struggles
are people like Harriet Tubman, Martin Luther King Jr. and Malala Yousafzai. Even though they all
struggled with different things at different times, their struggles motivated them to speak out for
their cause and change the world.

The Argument In Favor Of Prayer In Public Schools
For many years, students in public education were familiar with prayer in school. However, after

it offers benefits to all of society.

The Gallery Of Modern Art
The Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) is honoured to present an exhibition titled Image and Text: A
Feminist Narrative , with which it will be opening its door to the public on the 12th September and
closing on the 15th October. When image and text are integrated with one another in the creation
of contemporary art, artists are able to produce powerful and extremely effective messages of their
choice. However, just because the image and text are displayed together, does not mean they relate
to each other, as the text can either support the image, or contradict the image in order to
demonstrate the transparency of either or both elements (Williams and Simpson, 1994). Two artists
who have been able to incorporate image and text in their pieces are, contemporary American artist,
Barbara Kruger and contemporary Australian artist, Jenny Watson. Here at GOMA were have
created the Image and Text: A Feminist Narrative to displays the provocative and stimulating ways
Kruger and Watson have used both text and image to convey personal, dream, socio political and
feminist narratives. Whilst Barbara Kruger is an American feminist whose work is centred around
critiquing advertising culture and the representation of women during said advertising, Jenny
Watson is an Australian feminist who uses expressive figurative images and incorporates text
panels similar to autobiographical diary entries. The combination of these two artists display strong
messages to their audience, doing so in an

As Children, We Are Told Not To Judge A Book By Its Cover
As children, we are told not to judge a book by its cover and it s want inside that counts.
However, sadly as we grow up in this world we learned that those little lessons weren t the easiest
things to follow by. We are constantly told to have a certain body type, a certain skin color, and
to ooze sexuality through our pores and then we would fit the ideals of the world. Since society
is constantly changing around us, yet it s fixation on beauty is a constant staple on a global scale
and the idea of self altering to gain this ideal has become inescapable. Throughout the years the
importance of beauty has risen to a cultural level that it can almost be considered religious, with
how greatly focused it is for young girls and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But the society that we have built does not care whether or not it s possible to obtain or not as
long as they can monopolize our insecurities and turn that into a profit. And as humans
constantly wanting approval over certain things of our lives and one being how we look we
easily fall for it. Especially towards women since the way we look can somehow either open or
close doors for us. For it seems that the more attractive the women are, the wider her pool of
romantic partners and range of opportunities in her work and day to day life (Alkon). Looks get

work they put in. Beauty is placed on a pedestal in ALL of our lives, whether you have noticed it
or not. We all have strived towards it even if it s unrealistic and dangerous for us; internally we
yearn to be scaled high in the eyes of society. The culture views this need for validation over our
looks as an easy cash grab and encourages us to be highly critical towards ourselves so we run
towards the idea of what conventional beauty is. Slowly raising the standards of female beauty with

Polar Ice Caps Cause And Effects
The polar ice caps that we see today have taken centuries to form and they ve been melting from
time to time in order to form lakes and rivers that are essential not only for animal and plant life,
but for humans as well all over the world. Furthermore, as precipitation takes its toll the ice caps
that melt gets replaced by fresh snow that is later on over time converted to ice. Thus it is safe to
say that the melting of the polar ice caps is a normal occurrence, however it becomes a problem
when the ice caps melt at a fast rate and turning into water faster and in more quantity than the
fresh snow replacing it. This is the current situation of most of today s polar ice caps all over the
world. As they reduce in size, stability, and strength they eventually break off and melt away
thereby increasing sea levels among other things. The major consequences of melting polar ice
caps can be said in the following order below: We are currently experiencing warmer
temperatures all over the world today as temperatures have gone high, and global warming is
becoming more alarming day by day. This rise in temperature helps polar ice caps melt faster
than it should be. Ice caps have even disappeared in certain parts of the world due to this. The
melting of the polar ice caps increases global warming because ice glaciers deflects or bounces
off about 80% heat from the sun and retain or absorb about 20% of it. However, when sunlight
falls on earth, only 20% of the heat is deflected and

Financial Ratios Case Study

Rev. Oct. 17, 2012
RATIOS TELL A STORY 2011
Financial results and conditions vary among companies for a number of reasons. One reason for the
variation can be traced to the characteristics of the industries in which companies operate. For
example, some industries require large investments in property, plant, and equipment (PP E), while
others require very little. In some industries, the competitive productpricing structure permits
companies to earn significant profits per sales dollar, while in other industries the product pricing
structure imposes a much lower profit margin. In most low margin industries, however, companies
often experience a relatively high rate of product throughput. A second reason for some of the...

How Does Walter Mitty Escape His Fantasies The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is a short story by James Thurber, is a story of man who goes through an ordinary life fantasizing about a secret life where everything is great for him. In his fantasies Walter Mitty is everything he isn t in real life. Mitty uses these fantasies to forget the things he dislikes about his reality. Walter s life isn t anything special and he goes into his fantasies to escape from the fact that he is insecure/shy, he s being bossed around by his wife, and he can t do simple tasks. The first reason why Walter Mitty escapes his fantasies is because he is not confident, or able to stand up for himself in real world. For example in the text Mrs. Mitty asks Walter, Why don t you wear your gloves? (232) and he puts them on. As soon as she leaves, though, he takes them off. This demonstrates that Walter... He also talks to the parking attendant in a low, nervous voice. Walter isn t calm person in real life. Walter Mitty makes up for these mistakes in his another fantasy by becoming a famous surgeon. He imagines saving the life of a millionaire, and president friend. Thurber writes how the other doctors in Mitty s fantasy tell him, No one in the East knows how to fix it (233). Mitty responds in calm voice and takes over. This shows how in his fantasies Walter Mitty is calm since being a surgeon requires complete concertation and calmness. As we continue to lack a screening tool to diagnose CAAs, catheter directed angiography remains the gold standard both for diagnosis and treatment of CAAs. Intervening CAAs continues to remain a complicated task even in the hands of experienced operators. The greatest challenged faced in the management of CAAs is a delay in recognition largely due to the element of surprise associated with their low prevalence. Other major factors which pose a challenge during CAA interventions are the location of the coronary ostium within the aorta, the proximal course of the vessel, and angulation of the vessel. I had the opportunity to experience what it means to have an invisible impairment in a world made for those who have good hearing. The bright orange earplug served as my ticket to one of the most humbling adventures I have ever undertaken. I would have never imagined that a 32dB unilateral hearingloss would cause so much frustration. With frustration, however, came understanding and empathy. I am now confident that my experience will aid me in developing accurate expectations and treatment plans to my future clients. I, like many, know several individuals with a hearing loss. I have seen the devastation a hearing loss can cause for someone who is used to experiencing the many joys of clear sound. As I placed the earplug in for the first time, I braced myself. I immediately compared my temporary hearing loss to those with a permanent hearing loss and could only think about how challenging my life was going to be for the next few hours. I knew that my communicationskills were going to be impaired and my value as a communication partner was going to take a nosedive. One of the senses that I rely on every day was reduced and it felt like a part of me was missing. Key Results Of Testing For Ppp 5 Empirical Findings 5.1 Introduction Following the methodology section, this chapter is going to present the main findings of the PPP test and relevant information, graphs and tables will be shown as well. The purpose of this part is to provide key results of testing for PPP in order to facilitate the following detailed discussions. It is no doubt that this section can be viewed as the core of the whole project because it depends on a variety of econometric tools to evaluate the financial data. The findings consist of two major aspects: the one is on the examine of the APPP, namely the strong version of PPP; the other is on the test of the RPPP, also known as the weak form of PPP. 5.2 Findings of Testing for APPP As stated earlier, the APPP is based on the law of one price, stating that the real exchange rateis equal to one. The formula is expressed as: For the convenience of our research, the equation above can be simplified to: where Et represents the nominal bilateral exchange rate, Pt* is the CPI in Japan, Pt means the Indian CPI. Before analysing, what should do is to transmute the raw data into the natural logarithm form. According to Jia and Rathi (2008), the major cause of transformation is that taking natural logarithms not only indicates the elasticity of economic variables, but eliminates the issue of heteroscedasticity efficiently. If an econometric model is heteroscedastic, the test of significance for variables will be meaningless and the parameter ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Essay On African American Stereotypes Stereotype can be defined as a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing . Seemingly, stereotyping different races or even genders have become the norm. Society in itself likes to classify, label anything that is even remotely considered different. It is as if society just sits there and picks apart an individual whether it be a characteristic or information just to get a glimpse of what that person is all about. Whilst stereotyping may seem normal it affects a large amount of people especially African Americans. Television and movies play such a huge role in our culture. We tend to assert certain characters from movies and television shows to different groups of people. Stereotypesare there for a reason I suppose. Over time, as a human race we have found certain similarities within different races that we can connect with and use to distinguish between ourselves and create a better understanding as to what the person is likely to be like, before actually getting to know them. African American women are considered to be always angry, rude, have father issues and are way too emotional. Hinduism And Buddhism Essay 3.1.16 S.Reilly Term 2 Exam Essay In this term, I started Faith Traditions class and we learned about the Hinduism and Buddhism and the eight elements of religion: Belief System, Community, Central Myths, Ritual, Ethics, Characteristic Emotional Experience. The way Belief System(world view), Ethics, and Sacredness in Buddhism can be compared and contrasted to my own philosophy is intriguing. I believe that I agree with not all, but some of the elements of Buddhism, but where I do differ, I differ greatly. Buddhism s World View can be summed up by the Three Marks of Reality. The Marks are Change ( life s constant change, or impermanence ), No Permanent Identity ( no self ), and Suffering ( dissatisfaction [with life] ) (Molloy pg. 132 134). Change is that life is always subtly changing second to second. No Permanent Identity is that each person and each thing is not only changing but is made up of parts that are also constantly changing (Molloy pg. 133) Lastly, Suffering is the fact that life, when lived conventionally, can never be fully satisfying because of its inescapable change (Molloy pg. 134). Now, my world view is similar to Buddhism and it also comprises of three parts. The parts are that the world is always in turmoil, we can never be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If my mother left me to go to another country when I was five, would I try to find her years later? Would the abandonment and neglect by my family members lead me to resort to drugs? Would I make an eighth attempt to cross the border of the United States after my first seven attempts failed? These, and many other questions, ran through my head as I read Enrique s Journey, the story of a Honduran teenage boy s attempt to reunite with his mother, Lourdes, after she leaves him for the United States. Lourdes, a single mother, leaves her children with obviously good intentions she wants to get a better job and send money back to her children, but it is hard not to resent her a little. As I was reading, I kept trying to think of ways Lourdes could have stayed with her family in Tegucigalpa, Honduras and still have sufficiently provided for them. Maybe there could have been a way, but Lourdes obviously did not think there was. Leaving her family is not easy for Lourdes; she cannot even take a picture of Enrique with her because it would make her too sad, but she feels that this is the only way to give her children more than she had. Since animals, usually pets, are sometimes an essential part of one s life, it is not surprising that we find frequent references to its role in works of social realism, such as Wislawa Szymborska s Poems New and Collected and Milan Kundera s Unbearable Lightness of Being. Animals in literature could be used to symbolize all sorts of things, but in particular, animals may represent the personality of a character. This is because as humans and animals co exist in the same atmosphere, certain aspects of a character reveal themselves in the compassion or even hatred towards the animal. Since animals are often known to trigger the interests of humans, the attitude of the humans towards the animals contributes much to character revelation. Both... Implementation of security measures in SDN can free a network from several network attacks like Denial of Service (DoS) attacks. Another point to be noted is that, if an administrator had to upgrade the security measures in a traditional network, he would have to configure all the networking equipment separately with the required security measures. If the administrator needs to make any future changes to the network, he would have to again have to update on each and every device separately. This method demands a lot of resources and time. • 21. Comparable Worth Introduction: The debate in this study is that of whether or not to use comparable worth as the basis for future pay adjustments. Comparable worth, as defined by Merriam Webster, is the concept that women and men should receive equal pay for jobs calling for comparable skill and responsibility or that is of comparable worth to the employer. To further expand on this, the term comparable worth describes the idea that gender biased jobs should be reanalyzed to determine their worth to an employer. In theory, the goal of comparable worth is to raise wages for traditionally female biased jobs to the level of those for comparable male biased jobs. Comparable worth should not be confused with equal pay for equal work. Comparable worth... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, different job evaluation systems and different job evaluators are likely to assign different rankings to the same set of occupations. Recommendations: After careful consideration of the relevant facts of this case, my recommendation would be to deny the request of future wage adjustments based upon comparable worth. This recommendation is being made in light of several key factors. The first factor is that under comparable worth, employers would be required to set wages to reflect differences in the worth of jobs, with worth largely determined by job evaluation studies, not by market forces. This sounds good in theory, however, it will put the organization at a distinct disadvantage. According to Ann Barres, The size of a worker s paycheck would be unrelated to supply/demand conditions in the labor market. Therefore comparative worth could artificially inflate wages in some jobs and thereby attracting more people than the market could absorb. Any radical restructuring of pay scales would place an unfair burden on employers by raising their costs, and would unfairly impinge upon their freedom to earn their livelihood as they choose(2). On the other hand if there was a shortage of workers in one job, the employers hands would be tied as they could not raise the wages as to attract more applicants. The next issue is that of determining comparative worth. Given the large number and diversity of jobs being rated, it is unlikely that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. George W. Bush s `` Fascist America `` And 10 Easy Steps... Imagine one morning, waking up and realizing that the country you used to know as the land of the free, was not free anymore. That your freedom of speech had been stripped away a long time ago. Imagine realizing that your right to vote and the right to have a say in the government had been gradually replaced by a dictatorship, and you were just now noticing it. In the 2007 article, Fascist America, in 10 Easy Steps Naomi Wolf argues that the Bush administration had begun to implement the ten steps to take down a democratic nation. The article addresses the ten steps that are basically a blueprint for turning an open society into a dictatorship (Wolf). The overall threat is usually spun so that a majority of the citizens experience the fear it is meant to create. A big part of creating this fear is deciding on what words to use when presenting the enemy to the public. The language used to convey the nature of the threat is different in a country such as Spain than it is in America (Wolf). For example, the citizens of Spain are told that there is a grave security threat whereas American citizens are lead to believe, that we are potentially threatened with the end of civilization. Of course, this makes us [Americans] more willing to accept restrictions on our freedoms (Wolf). The tactic of using different words to feed off larger fears of the public allows the leader to control a larger majority. It also allows them to exaggerate the fears of the nation by using more frightening and drastic words. Trump terrifies people into supporting him by preaching the horrors of the world and then promising them protection from the violence. (Donald Trump s Campaign of Fear) This fear tactic has been used by many dictators in the past, because it is so easily enacted. The leader presents an immediate danger to the public and then promises safety to whoever promises to support them. Most of the time a majority of the public supports the leader; they trade their discontent for the promise of safety. Essay on Wikipedia and Its Credibility Wikipedia and its Credibility Wikipedia and its Credibility The Wikipedia is a free, online encyclopedia that lets every individual with Internet connection write and edits its articles. Jimmy Wales and Larry Sanger launched their creation in 2001 giving an opportunity to all willing people to work together to develop a common resource of knowledge. Many people have different believes and ideas about Wikipedia, therefore, some tend to think of it as a credible and valid source of information, others strongly disagree. Going straight to the source is the best way to check if the information in the article is reliable and credible. A New Tool to Check the Quality of Articles German professor Stock created a new tool that allows checking the quality of articles posted on Wikipedia and stated, Wiki Watch serves as a research tool indicating lack of sources and evaluating the reliability of every entry made, using WikiTrust s color code system to display reputation of a text according to the reputation and number of revisions by users. Wiki Watch analyzes every Wikipedia entry ever created in a few seconds, checks the number of sources used in the article and the quality of editing (para. 2). Wiki Watch uses a color codes system to check the reputation of the article by figuring out how many times people revised the article. White color means reliable information; therefore, yellow color has an opposite meaning. This system also checks for the credibility of the article and emphasizes individual words used in the article. Many Editors to Correct the Errors Wikipedia counts 75,000 editors who check the articles and their content to make sure that the information is valid and reliable. The Catholic denomination is the oldest branch of organized Christianity. Being a member of the Catholic church means being a devout follower of God. It means that you believe in the the death and resurrection of JesusChrist and accept him as your lord and savior. Catholics are a part of the Church that Christ established and entrusted to Saint Peter and his successors, the popes. I attended the 10 a.m. mass at Christ the King on July 12, 2015. The service was a little over an hour long and it was an immensely different and interesting experience. Music is and has always been a staple of Christian worship. The worship music at Christ the King was extremely traditional. All of the songs that were sung were traditional hymnals and the congregation seemed to know each hymn by heart. The lyrics were accompanied by an organ and each pew contained a worship book that contained the hymns as well as the gospel acclamations and creeds that accompanied them. The priest sang instead of speaking during the worship, reading of the holy scripture, and communion. In some instances the priest would sing something and the congregation... His idea was to try and reinvent religion. Spinoza s metaphysics consists of one thing, substance, and its modifications. Spinoza argues that there is only one substance making up this universe, which is absolutely infinite, self caused, and eternal. He calls this substance God. Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggles (brainyquote.com). This is a very powerful quote because if you do not struggle or sacrifice in life, when come to a point where you have to make decisions or take action, you re not going to be able to decide what to do or think. This is how we progress and go forward, because we make mistakes and learn from them to make things better in the world around us. When image and text are integrated with one another in the creation of contemporary art, artists are able to produce powerful and extremely effective messages of their choice. However, just because the image and text are displayed together, does not mean they relate to each other, as the text can either support the image, or contradict the image in order to demonstrate the transparency of either or both elements (Williams and Simpson, 1994). Two artists who have been able to incorporate image and text in their pieces are, contemporary American artist, Barbara Kruger and contemporary Australian artist, Jenny Watson. Polar Ice Caps Cause And Effects The polar ice caps that we see today have taken centuries to form and they ve been melting from time to time in order to form lakes and rivers that are essential not only for animal and plant life, but for humans as well all over the world. Furthermore, as precipitation takes its toll the ice caps that melt gets replaced by fresh snow that is later on over time converted to ice. Thus it is safe to say that the melting of the polar ice caps is a normal occurrence, however it becomes a problem when the ice caps melt at a fast rate and turning into water faster and in more quantity than the fresh snow replacing it. This is the current situation of most of today s polar ice caps all over the world. As they reduce in size, stability, and strength they eventually break off and melt away thereby increasing sea levels among other things. The major consequences of melting polar ice caps can be said in the following order below: We are currently experiencing warmer temperatures all over the world today as temperatures have gone high, and global warming is becoming more alarming day by day. This rise in temperature helps polar ice caps melt faster than it should be. Ice caps have even disappeared in certain parts of the world due to this. The melting of the polar ice caps increases global warming because ice glaciers deflects or bounces off about 80% heat from the sun and retain or absorb about 20% of it.
