The purpose of this experiment is to collect water samples from El Rio Canal. Data such as
dissolved oxygen (DO), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), and Biochemical Oxygen Demand
(BOD) will be found. From the results of each group, Streeter Phelps Dissolved Oxygen sag curve
will be constructed. Then, the Streeter Phelps sag curve will be analyzed and the group will
increase an understanding of the limitations and assumptions using this curve. The amount of
biodegradable organic matter and non biodegradable matter found in the water samples will be
compared. Ultimate BOD will be estimated by using the first order method or the гЂ–BODгЂ—_t

Dissolved oxygen varies depending on the temperature in the water, salinity, oxygen depletion,
oxygen source and other parameters (Stoddart 2014). Biochemical Oxygen Demand BOD can
be defined as the amount of dissolved oxygen that microbes utilize to decompose organic matter
in the water (Academic 2015). Results from BOD can be usually found after 5 days. However,
some times in order to get a complete biochemical Oxygen, BOD must be measured for 20 to 25

9. The Decision Making Process as It Relates to Planning
Decision making is the cognitive process leading to the selection of a course of action among
alternatives. Usually the decision making process is implemented resulting from an identified
problem that needs to be addressed and remedied. Each decision making process produces a final
choice, which is called a decision. Planningis an integral part of the process. Without an organized
plan, a final decision will be very difficult to achieve. Planning and decision making are very
similar, yet very distinct processes by which organizational goals are met. If the two processes are
implemented properly, they can complement each other so that goals can be realized in the most
efficient and effective manner possible. Planning involves... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

standard for the rest of the thrilling film. The visual design of a movie is comprised of the
contents of the frame and how they are used to enhance the viewing experience for the audience.
There exists a multitude of visual design elements, each one playing a major role in every motion
picture. Visual design elements affect the mood and atmosphere in a film. The mood of a film is
the emotion that is evoked when viewing a movie, whereas the atmosphere is external, the physical,
sensory qualities of the film. Throughout the duration of the 138 minute masterpiece,... Show more

Starling finally arrives at her destination, she sees Lecter behind a thick pane of glass, rather than
the standard steel bars of the other prisoners. This distinct choice in set design is made to convince
the audience that they should be scared and unsettled for future encounters with Lector. Since the

As defined on page 55 of the text Assault is a purposeful act that causes an apprehension of a

reasonably believe they are at risk of imminent harm. Such an example would be if Tom threatens

A Look Into Nagi s Face Analysis
How destructive is power? This is a question one might contemplate while reading A Look into
Nagi s Face . Alaa El Aswani depicted power s effect on a very small environment represented in
the classroom. A Look into Nagi s Face tells the story of a young boy who appears to be in the
lower/middle class. This boy went to a strict French school where the teacher would hit whoever
makes a mistake. When this happens other students would act as if they had seen nothing and the
day would just continue normally. One day, Nagi, a new rich student with French origins came to

But he pushes me violently away and then turns to the blackboard and writes my name, and the

When we come to analyze the style of the writer in the story we find that he used a simple style,
yet emphasized symbolism. The writer used informal diction in order to appeal to the people and
not complicate the message he is sending. However, the writer depended largely on symbolism,
which might be difficult for some readers to grasp. The whole story is based on symbolism; the
school resembled a country, the teacher resembled the leader, the students resembled the people
and finally Nagi resembled a political party or a potential leader. When looking at it from this
point of view, it shows that at the beginning the people students were slaves to the teacher and
even not supporting each other, but then came the potential leader Nagi who gave them a ray of
hope, which made them follow him. However, the minute this leader got authority, he became a
slave to power just like the previous leader and forgot about the people who helped him reach
where he is.
This story shows how power enslaves people and how destructive it could be to people s souls
and conscience. Which is stated clearly in the last paragraph if the story: Here I am. Tears wet my
face, my hand stings, and I turn to Nagi, who stands forever next to the frГЁre. I keep looking at

14. The Managerial Shift Toward Stakeholder Relationship...
There has been a shift in managerial attitudes toward, and consideration for, social and
environmental issues in recent decades (Parnell, Scott, Angelopoulos, 2013). While mangers have
traditionally been obligated to work for the good of the shareholder, widespread adoption of the
stakeholder theory demands that managers seriously consider the impacts of the firm s decisions on
all affected outside parties, or stakeholders (Boatright, 1994; Parnell et al., 2013). However,
purchasing and supply chain management(PSCM) in practice seems to remain oriented toward
profit maximization, though interest in social responsibility is growing (Ferrell, Rogers, Ferrell,
Sawayda, 2013). The managerial shift toward stakeholder relationship management has been
evident, yet the extent to which PSCM departments have embraced stakeholder theoryis less
obvious.
This is problematic because PSCM is a developing discipline (Spina, Caniato, Luzzini, Ronchi,
2013). Knowledge of actual policies and practices is important, as future research cannot address
real world problems based on assumptions. The purpose of this study is to determine the degree to
which stakeholder theory has been incorporated into companies PSCM policies. This exploratory
research will fill a gap in the PSCM literature, informing future research by providing scholars with
a clearer understanding of the degree to which stakeholder theory has been adopted in PSCM.

15. Tips For Buying The Right Golf Glove
Tips for Buying the Right Golf Glove
The golf glove is an important component in the whole golfing setup because it provides a tackier
grip, which helps prevent club twisting when taking a swing or shot. Majority of golfers also wear
gloves to protect their hands from blisters, calluses and elements such as the sun and rain. Golf
gloves are made from three main types of material; synthetic, leather and hybrid material. A high
quality leather glove promises ultimate comfort because it is soft and pliable while a glove made
from synthetic material is more durable, flexible and cheap. Synthetic gloves are cheaper largely
because they do not breathe as well as leather made gloves. Hybrid gloves, on the other hand, are
mostly made from real and synthetic leather.
Hybrid gloves are popular because they aptly combine the benefits of true leather and synthetic
materials to guarantee comfort and firm grip. Because of increased competition, the best golf
gloves are marketed with features and functionalities like premium Cabrera leather, excellent fit and
use of micro vent material for enhanced breathability. The other types of golf gloves in the market
include all weather gloves, thermal gloves and golf mitts. The challenge amateur and professional
golfer s face when buying gloves is choosing a product that will work for them without
compromising quality. This decision is usually influenced by a number of factors, key among them

16. Essay on Human Rights in the European Union
Introduction
The development of a human rights policy in the EU has been a long and often undocumented
journey. The sectoral approach of the Paris Treaty establishing the European Coal and Steel
Community (ECSC) in 1951 had an economic and functional intention, lacking a declaration of
fundamental rights, as seen in national constitutions. It was not until the 2000 Nice Summit that the
European Union first established a written charter, the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights,
explicitly stating and guaranteeing human rights in the European Union. Documented EU human
rights policy before 2000 can be seen primarily in two ways:
1. Internally, through case law from the European Court of Justice (ECJ)
2. Externally, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Based on analysis from these four cases, conclusions regarding the effectiveness of human rights
policy will be discussed.
Background of EU Human Rights Policy
European Court of Justice
The legitimacy of the ECJ to uphold EU legislation is a necessary component of effective human
rights policy. The history of its increase in power is worth noting. Throughout the 1960s and
1970s, the ECJ s location in Luxembourg, far from the political fray in Brussels and Strasburg,
prevented it from becoming a strong body of the EU. Yet, throughout that time the court
methodically built case law that would lead to its surge in influence in the 1980s. The two most
significant developments of the court during this time period were direct effect and supremacy.
These twin pillars clarified the relationship between the national and EU legal orders.
The landmark decision involving direct effect occurred in 1963 in a case called Van Gend en Loos.
In the case, a Dutch transport firm brought a complaint against Dutch customs for increasing the
duty on a product imported from Germany. The firm argued that the Dutch authorities had breached
a clause in the original EU treaty, which prohibited member states from introducing new duties in
the common market. The Court agreed with the firm and declared that any unconditionally worded
treaty provision being self sufficient and legally complete did not require

Envision the best collegiate football player you know. There s a good chance his fame is attributed
to how aggressive he is, praised for his no mercy attitude. While this mentality suits the field, it can
translate onto college campuses, where many student athletes are recruited to play for the school. A
case study conducted at the University of Pennsylvania revealed that certain environments
encourage aggression over others. Societies with higher levels of male dominance, tolerance of
violence, and greater gender segregation tended to fall into this category. Now recall that collegiate
football player. Sound familiar?
Despite having hundreds of sexual assault cases each year, most colleges take little action to
resolve these cases. In fact, only 20% of female sexual assault survivors report cases, the rest
believing that it was too personal to share, or that if they did, the police wouldn t listen to them. If
they did report, often times it was to the local police rather than the campus police in fear that they
would be shamed or turned away by the universities.

18. The Great Divide By John Woolf And Forster s Howard s...

The Great Divide
There were several prevailing thoughts towards connections present during the time in England on
the cusp of High Modernism. The importance of connections with others was one that was
specifically addressed in much of the literature. E.M. Forster even highlighted the idea in his novel
Howard s End with the epigraph only connect . The idea supports the notion that, in order for a
society to survive and thrive, some degree of connection must be adequately maintained. Yet,
through the stratification of social classes in England at the time, there was little social connection
being preserved. To address the issue, authors like Virginia Woolfand Forster included connection
as a prominent theme in their works. Both Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway and Forster s Howard s End
address connection through their characters as well as geographical locations. In each of these
stories, the underlying theme of connecting highlights the characters struggles to only connect .
It would seem as if Forster is urging connection by illustrating that, without some degree of
connecting, social classes would remain stratified and society would fall into utter ruin. Through
the intermingling of characters in Howard s End , Forster suggests that connecting in such a way
is progress. He further advocates and suggests that progress should be presented as a positive thing,
and, in order for a society to flourish, connections between the

19. The Effects Of Stress On Our Lives
ROUGH DRAFT
Brenna Lawrason #5687561
Stress is something that people are experiencing everyday based off things occurring in our
everyday lives. Stress is different for everyone depending on what kind of situation it is brought
upon which could vary from school work, family issues, personal problems etc. The questionnaires
entitled Social Readjustment Scale (Miller Rahe, 1997) and the Lifestyle and Habits Questionnaire
(Dinzeo, T.J., Thayasivam, U., Sledjeski, E.M., 2014) to determine what leads to high stress
levels in our lives. In the questionnaire, it describes a range of life changing events ranked from
highest to lowest levels of stress. This study that was created in 1965, their purpose was to build
on the 43 original events by adding an additional 44 events to the list. The events were duplicated
the number of events to minimize possible errors in the experiment with the overall goal to see
how a group of people could relate to similar life changing events.
High Levels of stress have a direct correlation with unhealthy behaviours affecting how our bodies
work and function. When stress is presented to people, they begin to engage in unhealthy
behaviours and activities, which lead to habits that is found to decrease in overall health. Stress
within College students is examined quite extensively to see what causes them stress, and what
kind of health issues is brought upon them. In the article entitled Stress at college: Effects on health

Midterm Paper
The central subject of Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte is the love between Heathcliff and
Catherine. The novel sets the narrative up for Edgar Linton s proposal to Catherine by having
Catharine get bit by the Linton s dog and then having her stay at Thrushcross Grange. During this
time, she is learning how to be a proper lady all while becoming closer with the Linton s. The
novel sets the narrative up for Catherine s death by showing Catherine s relationship between Edgar
and Heathcliff. Although, Catherine is married to Edgar she still has Heathcliff come around
because she can t be apart from him. This exceptionally shows during Catherine s death when
Heathcliff decides to stay with her, even though he knows Edgar is coming. The1998 film
adaptation reveals the same central subject, however, it includes slightly different information and
tools to portray the subject.
In the novel WH, Catherine enters the room and appears to be disturbed and anxious. Catherine
tells Nelly how Edgar Linton asked her to marry him, but she is looking to Nelly for what the
right answer may be. She finally comes out and tells Nelly that she has accepted him. Nelly
proceeds to ask Catherine why she loves Edgar, Catherine s response is because he is handsome,

23. Witches Role In Macbeth Essay
In Macbeth , written by William Shakespeare, the three witches play a crucial role in the play,
influencing: the characters, the plot, and themes. They could be regarded as a backbone in the
construct in the play as without these characters, the plot would be entirely dissimilar. During the
course of Macbeth, the weird sisters brought about a supernatural element in the play whilst
swaying the characters actions (mainly Macbeth) and, engaging the attention of the audience.
The witches absence would mean the absence of the supernatural theme of the play. In Macbeth ,
the supernatural is an integral part of the plot s structure and is a key aspect in making the play
interesting. It provided an acceleration for action, an insight into the character, and increased the
impact of many key scenes. The supernatural appeared to the audience in many varied forms not
only as the weird sisters, but also a floating dagger, and prophetic apparition. The use of this element
first occurred at the commencement of Macbeth , when the three witches revealed their prophecies
and gave the audience an idea of what was yet to come. It was only after this encounter, that

24. Nitrate-Nitrite
The nitrate nitrite NO pathway can have beneficial health effects. Dietary nitrate has been shown to
improve the mitochondrial functioning as it affects proteins involved in uncoupling contributing to
an increase performance in exercise. The pathway begins through consumption of dietary nitrates
that are converted to nitrites by bacteria in the oral cavity. The reduction of nitrates to nitrites may
affect hemoglobin. Excess nitrites added to deoxygenated hemoglobin will oxidize to form

The body must go through chemical processes for healthy cellular function and homeostasis.
Human beings not only consume dietary nitrates but, the body also synthesizes nitrates
endogenously. This arises from the oxidation of nitrogenoxide and its end products. The synthesis
of nitrates to nitrites occurs endogenously and exogenously in the body. Consumption of inorganic
nitrates and nitrites will undergo reductive processes for the body s use and elimination. Nitrates
and Nitrites both contain nitrogen in its chemical structure. Nitrogen, in of itself, is often conserved
to be reused by the body s cells. Inorganic nitrates and nitrates that are consumed must be equally
eliminated. The metabolism of nitrates and nitrites ultimately result in its elimination through
salivary excretion or urination. Ingestion of inorganic nitrates will first undergo reductive activity
in the oral cavity through the bacteria present on the tongue. The metabolism continues until nitrites
are converted to nitric oxide where it enters the circulatory system and distributed to different target
tissues. The concentration of nitrites in the salivary glands account for 25% of total dietary intake
of nitrates (Gehle, 2007). The remaining concentration of nitrites are distributed in circulation and
eventually eliminated through the urine. Each route of elimination helps to rid the body of
potentially toxic

25. Compare And Contrast Invisible Man And Brave New World
In H. G. Wells book The Invisible Man, and Aldous Huxley s Brave New World, a social struggle
between the mainstream society and a character estranged from the established normal behavior of
the masses of people in these novels exists. While the main characters in both of these books are
different from society for entirely different reasons, analyzing these novels using marxist criticism
exemplifies just how similar the societies and main characters really are.
First and foremost the characters in both these books do not even come close to fitting into the
society that surrounds them. In Wells book his character Jack Griffin has discovered how to turn
himself invisible and Griffin desperately searches for a cure to his invisibleness while ... Show more

While it may seem a bad thing when society would rather cast out those who are different rather
than accept them, this is not necessarily true. Civilized societies cast out criminals, which is not
seen as bad by most. This is where many of the similarities between Brave New Worldand The
Invisible Man s societies end. Griffin is not accepted because of his abnormally violent and
criminally inclined behavior. While in BNW the characters are rejected from society because they
wish to think for themselves and do not want to participate in a meaningless mechanized existence.
Marxist criticism highlights this difference, which might be harder to see without it, as in one
book this social disengagement is because the government has mandated a standard of behavior,
which almost everyone follows for their entire life without once questioning it. While in the other
the social partition is due to the morals and values of individuals which are widely accepted among
their society which is why Griffin is not accept as he has threatened and violated society s trust.
While both these societies do not accept people who are different these two books do an excellent
job of exemplifying how different societies can both not accept people who are different but one
society would still be considered morally

26. Igm Memory Populations
For my experiment, I will be exploring the question of what is the ontogeny, or origination and
development, of IgM memory cells that exist within a mouse. In regards to ontogeny, a more
distinct question that can be asked is what B cell subset are the memory cells developed from,
whether it is marginal zone, follicular, or B 1 cells within the organism. My hypothesis is that the B
1 B cells give rise to the IgM memory population in mice infected with E. muris, a population that is
independent of T cell help and activation. Previous experiments have analyzed the bridge between
basic immunity and infectious disease. The infectious disease of our interest is that transmitted by
ehrlichia, which has the ability to cause a bacterial infection within an organism. These tick borne
pathogens generate an immune response within the infected organism. While it is the short term
immunity process that allows for the organism to defend itself against the pathogen, it is long term
production of immune system cells that protect the organism against potential future encounters.
IgM mediated immunity is developed over the course of an infection and previous work shows that
it remains in the system to help fight off future infections.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

These B cells, after having been phenotyped, are found to express a cell surface marker known as

This cell surface marker of CD11c will allow us to distinguish the IgM memory population within
our mice, from other populations of cells that are produced by the immune system during its
response to the foreign antigen. Another indicator that will allow for us to know which cells are

Concealed weapon carry has been a very debatable topic for a while now. Yes, many bad people
would be able to get their hands on one, but how do we let those people spoil it for the rest of
us? Those are the exact types of people we need to be protecting ourselves from. These people
are the reason we need to have concealed carry, to protect ourselves. I m here to give you
reasons why concealed carry should be permitted to those qualified. I m here to say, don t let one
bad apple spoil the bunch. Concealed handguns deter crime. According to the 2014 analysis of FBI

Mar. 11, 2014, 14 law enforcement officers and 622 other people were killed nationally (not in

difficult to prevent bad people from doing bad things. Regardless of background checks and
security registrations, someone who really wants to get their hands on a gun legally, will do so.
In 2007 the South Florida Sun Sentinel reviewed a list of concealed gun permit holders in
Florida and found that 1,400 had pleaded guilty or no contest to a felony, 216 had outstanding
warrants, and 128 had active domestic violence injunctions. There are many irresponsible people
in this world, and whether you would like to or not, you can t stop them all. But like i ve said
many times, they are also many responsible people on the world. A bad person will always do
bad things, but why does that mean everyone else should have to suffer? CONCLUSION

28. Analysis Of The Book I m Going At The Beach
Introduction 45 to 60 seconds
Audio
Amy loves to read historical fiction novels. She has collected many of these novels over the years.
One day she hopes to write her own fiction novels. For now, she enjoys writing short fiction as a
way to practice her writing skills.
When Amy writes her fictional short stories she makes sure to include a good plot structure and
exciting characters.
The most fun part for Amy is figuring out what type of conflict she will create for her characters.
She also enjoys demonstrating through her writing how unique her characters are. She does this by
allowing them to speak in dialects specific to their birth place.
For example, in one of her stories, the main character is from New Jersey. So, each time the
character refers to the beach, she says down the shore.
Saying I m going down the shore , instead I m going to the beach, is common among those born in
New Jersey.
Even though her characters do not speak formal English, Amy writes all of her short fiction in
formal academic English.

work of fiction is a mixture of formal and informal

Learned helplessness is approximately seen as cognitive individual variables that mirrors the
habitual manner where students exhibit the causes of bad events that occur them (Peterson Barrett,
1987; Lin Peterson, 1990). Therefore, there are three causes that can impact students achievement
because of the bad events that students face which are internal against externality, stability against
instability, and globality against specificity. Thus, students who clarify bad events with the three
causes internal, stable, and global causes manifests more acute debilitation in their wake, passivity,
and poor problem solving. Indeed, these causes are called explanatory style, so explanatory style

The weather was seasonally cold in Pennsylvania s Capitol late in 1914. On Sunday morning,
December 27, the temperature was 1 degree Fahrenheit. This reading was the lowest ever registered
in the last month of the year during the almost three decade history of the Harrisburg weather
station. Nevertheless, the cold did not dim the spirit of the holiday season as the Harrisburg
Evening Telegraph newspaper cheerfully proclaimed, Perfect Christmas Makes City Happy.
During that week, Governor John K. Tener, in the last month of his term, released a legislatively
mandated report that made history. The Report of the Economy and Efficiency Commission, for
one of the very few times in Pennsylvania s Chronicle, provided the public with a roster of all 5,152
state employees. The release of this document was a key milestone in the Commonwealth s early
20th century effort to improve its personnel management practices.
By listing names, this document provides an opportunity to recognize the often unheralded
contributions of selected state employees assigned to organizations under the general supervision of
the Governor. The register also affords an invaluable chance to appreciate how the offices, bureaus,
and divisions make Pennsylvania work. Researching their efforts brought to light a collective
commitment to assist the public. This attribute is a common virtue among Pennsylvania state

The news media is an important aspect of a democratic nation, as one of their roles is to be a voice
of the public to mediate between the public and the government. Anderson (2007) asserts that the
normative roles of the news media in a democratic society are to undertake the role of the fourth
estate, act as a watchdog, and when necessary, as a counterbalance to those in society who abuse
their power. In other words, the media s function in society is critical to ensuring a balanced
governance and providing reliable information to the public. It is the primary institution within

affect them, news that is independent of vested interest (Mcquail, 1994). Most of the ethical codes
as stated above, concentrate on providing reliable information to the public as well as avoiding bias
and sensationalism in the news.
On the other hand, Atton (2003) describes alternative media as a critical means to challenge the
standardised and professionalised practices of mainstream media. It is guided by a purpose other
than profit, unlike mainstream media which is often structured to promote consumption of the
products it advertises (Skinner, 2009). Alternative media does not claim to be objective. It does not
consider itself bound by the conventions of journalism. It sees itself as providing a platform for
everyone to voice their opinions (i.e. a platform for horizontal communication) (Hackett Zhao,
2002). What I found through my research is that mainstream media does not always follow its role
of maintaining ideal journalistic standards. It more often focuses on reporting sensational news for
entertainment commercial purposes, rather than news that intellectually informs, engages and
educates the public. Mehrotra (2011) defines media sensationalism as the style of reporting news to

35. Eukaryotic Cell Functions
All eukaryotic cells have microtubules, which are hollow rods assembled from a globular protein
called tubulin. Microtubules grow in length by adding tubulin dimers. Those dimers can also be
disassembled, which would allow the tubulin to build microtubules elsewhere in the cell. The two
opposite ends of of a microtubule are actually pretty unique. One end can can accumulate or release
tubulin dimers at a much higher rate which allows it to grow or shrink during cellular activities
(Campbell, pg.114). The microtubules and the motor proteins of a cell are closely related, which is
why I must introduce some of there functions. Cell motility generally requires interaction if the

Now we are presented with microtubules again and this time I shall describe to you why this is
part of the correct choice. As microtubules structure actually serves as tracks, which organelles
that are equipped with motor proteins can use to move. That seems like one of the two functions
we were looking for that contribute to movement within a cell. Microtubules are often handled
with the task of guiding vesicles from the ER to the Golgi apparatus (Campbell, pg. 114). The
next part of choice B is motor proteins, which are often compared to as feet or how the cell walks
to their destination. They use the tracks provided by the cytoskeleton. The motor protein kind
work with the cytoskeleton and the plasma membrane molecules, which allow whole cells to move
along fibers on the exterior portion of the cell (Campbell, pg.113). Choice B is correct.

36. Nature Vs. Nurture Argumentative Analysis
Nature versus Nurture debate
Nature versus nurture is controversial debate that has been ongoing for several years about whether
behaviors are caused by inherited traits or are they influenced by the environment. When Genie the
wild child was found, she represented a tabula rasa blank state of learning due to the limited basic
skills she had, and incapability to speak. Hence, psychologists examined the nature versus nurture
argument through Genie. The early stages of growth are fundamentally crucial for children because
they need human contact, affection, and interaction to fully develop a sense of self and be fully
integrated into society. The absence of proper socializationduring those critical periods caused
Genie to develop differently than the rest.
Genie was a victim of severe abuse and neglect by her father, Clark Wiley, she was discovered at
the age of 13 in her family s home, she was strapped down to her potty chair and isolated in a
dark bedroom for the first years of her life (McMahan, 2014). Genie walked in an inhuman way,

environmental adaptation that served as the foundation for promoting health (Cherry Jacob, 2014,

I prefer the 1939 film adaption of The Hound of the Baskervilles better than the 2002 film
adaptation because it is more appropriate, and sticks to the novel. The 1939 film adaptation was
less violent and definitely less gory. I personally don t think that violence and gore are necessary in
order to get the point across. The 1939 filmadaptation, featuring Basil Rathbone as Holmes, was
more suspenseful than the 2002 television movie. I feel like the definition scary of movies
nowadays is because they have a lot of violence and gore. In the classical movie era, scary was
suspenseful (Alfred Hitchcock, Bogie and Bacall). In the late sixties, the rating system developed.
That signified the end of classical movies and the introduction to the new and improved (not)
movie. Rotten Tomatoes, the biggest movie base rates almost all movies from 0 100. The 1939
film adaptation has an 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. Other films with an 100% include, All About
Eve, (Bette Davis, Celeste Holm) The Band Wagon, (Fred Astaire, Cyd Charisse) and Silk
Stockings (Fred Astaire, Cyd Charisse). To give that some perspective, The Hunger Games has
an 84%, The Hobbit has a 59%, Harry Potter has a 91%. Notice as a pattern, the older a movie
gets, the higher the rating. The Princess Bride has a 97%. I guess my point is that the older
movies are more appropriate. The 1939 adaptation is Not Rated. That means there is no need for
it to be rated. There is no bad material. So you would be like, The 2002 movie would be G. Right?

In this case AMH has requested the SWOB to responded and recover organs for transplant. Once
the brain death diagnosis is made the attending doctor does not have any more contact with the
patient. This prevents the conflict of interest question from being raised.
The responding organ bank, as well as the centers that receive the organs for transplant, provide on
call doctors to assist in the recovery process. The hospital however maintains control of the patient.
This chain of command is for the protection of all involved in the recovery and transplant process.
In this situation the organ bank was challenging the diagnosis of brain death made by a member
of the professional staff of AMH. Not only was there a challenge but it was being made by some
one other then a doctor. Only a doctor can pronounce a patient dead. So here was another
dilemma in that there was a challenge to the doctor s diagnosis being made by a nurse. This in it
self goes against the State Nursing Rules for licensure. Nurses are not allowed to diagnosis nor

The transplant coordinator nurse needed the support of the organ bank s medical staff. The organ
bank s medical staff was not on scene and thus had to take the word of the transplant coordinator.

Many new developments are being built by freshwater sources such as lakes and rivers and with this
construction, riparian areas are being destroyed. Both of these actions negatively impact the amount
of dissolved oxygen at the source. Industries such as construction and logging may send large
amounts of organic matter into streams (Zaimes 2007). This organic matter would then be

eutrophic system where oxygen levels are depleted. Additionally, destruction of Riparian areas
would decrease the tree cover and increase the water temperature. The significance of this
temperature increase is that the water would be able to hold less dissolved oxygen. Many aquatic

As Ben sits in front of the fish tank he seems to be thinking very deeply. The tank represents a sort
of tranquility and peacefulness for Ben. The father s voice is more dominating than Ben s silent cry.
Hey, what s the matter? was the first line in the film
This dialogue represents the father and mother asking questions as a form of human behavior but
not really as a sign of individual concern. They

44. Differences Between Softball And Baseball
Softball and baseball are very similar sports. People like to say they are the exact same and
nothing is different between the two. But in reality they have a key factors that make them very
different from each other. Softball and baseball are both played the same way but as you get
deeper into the game you start to see more differences.
Softball is a sport that is played by females. When softball players play in tournaments they are
either timed and those last roughly 71 to 73 minutes a game and if they are not timed then you
play the whole seven innings. The bases are 60 feet apart from each other, the pitcher s mound is
43 feet back from the catcher, and the whole field is around 210 feet. It is common that you see

Baseball players have the choice to either play with wooden or composite bats. Baseball bats are
a lot heavier than softball bats and they are also wider at the end. Baseballs measure between 9
to 9.25 inches in circumference and weigh between 5 to 5.25 ounces. Baseball pitchers have
many different types of pitches as well, some examples are Fastballs: Four seam, Two seam,
Cutter, Splitter, and Forkball. Breaking Balls: Curveball, Slider, Slurve, and Screwball.
Changeups: Changeup, Palmball, and Circle Changeup. Similarities for softball and baseball
are that they both are played in very similar ways. You walk up to home plate with a bat and
stand in front of home plate and your goal is to hit the ball and get on base. Four balls and you
get walked and three strikes means you strikeout and go back to the dugout. If you get three outs
for the whole team then you go from on the field to hitting or hitting to on the field. When you first
start off on the field, the pitcher gets six warmup pitches and then their last pitch gets thrown down
to the shortstop standing at second base pretending to tag someone. They both are played on either
dirt or turf fields with a grass outfield. They have the same in field fly rules and ITB rules. Each
team has nine players. A pitcher, catcher, first baseman, second baseman, shortstop, third baseman,
and three

Hip JointsThis organisation allows the greatest range of motion as all movement types are possible
in all directions.
PivotThis joint consists of the rounded end of one bone fitting into a ring formed by another
bone. This structure allows rotational movement as the rounded bone moves around its own
axis.NeckThis allows the head to move back and forth so it allows the joint to move up and down

46. All Quiet And The Western Front By Erich Maria Remarque
We are forlorn like children, and experienced like old men, we are crude and sorrowful and
superficial, I believe we are lost (Remarque 123). World War I is a tragic event that occurred in
1914 to 1918. Paul Baumer and the rest of the soldiers in the novel of All Quiet in the Western
Front by Erich Maria Remarque are lost; they are broken from the fist World War, they don t
know anything aside from War, and they have lost their innocence during the years of
maturation. When the young men heard about the War, they were excited, and full of life, they
thought they were going on an adventure. The adventure began on July 28th, 1914 and Paul
Baumer is five miles behind a French front. As the First World War begins, the soldiers believe it
is honorable to join but as they spend more time in war and gain experience they realize war is a
lot different from what they had in mind. The soldiers become more hopeless as the days and
years pass. The life in the trenches was risky, and every day could be the soldiers last. I am so
alone and so without hope that I can confront them without fear (Remarque 295). This quotation
shows how Paul Baumer has lost all his hope, and desire. The soldiers no longer fight for their
country, they do not desire to make it out alive, the First World War has made them so miserable,
and so hopeless they have lost feelings for everything. Everyone except for Paul Baumer has died
from his class. It is the beautiful season of autumn, and it starts by

47. Portrayal Of Female Sexuality By Bram Stoker s Dracula
Bram Stoker s 1897 Dracula is a novel that condemns liberated female sexuality, presenting it as
volatile and threatening to the established patriarchal order of the Victorian Era. By examining the
varying level of sexuality among Stoker s female characters and their narrative outcomes, the novel
s attitude that female sexuality is hostile becomes apparent.
In Castle Dracula, Harker meets three vampiric women whose monstrosity is presented as
inseparable from their eroticism. Describing their fangs, Jonathan Harker writes I could see in the
moonlight the moisture shining on the scarlet lips and on the red tongue as it lapped the white
sharp teeth (52). Here, fangs serve as signs of these women s inhumanity and their carnality, this ...

In extreme contrast to the lecherous she beasts met by her husband in Transylvania, Mrs
Johnathan Harker epitomises the Victorian notion of a good woman. Rather than occupy the
role of a physical lover, Mina is a maternal figure, nurturing all her friends with an innate and
instinctive tenderness. To the bereaved Lord Arthur Godalming she opens her arms
unthinkingly (275), resting his head on her shoulder as though it were that of a baby that some
day may lie on my bosom (275). Despite this simile endowing Mina with power over Godalming
it is an acceptable power for a woman to have, that possessed by mothers over their babes, rather
than that by dominatrices over their victims. At the same time as being femininely caring, she is
also intelligent and sensible, perceived as typically masculine qualities by the Victorians.
Described by Van Helsing on more than one occasion of having a man s brain (281, 404) while
also having a woman s heart (281), Mina is rendered virtually void of any sexual desire or
attraction. Her womanliness centres on gentle compassion and the manliness of her mind ensures
she is too sensible to give in to any subconscious eroticism. She alone of the novel s female
characters survives, and ends happily married with one son.
Unfortately, Mina s friend Miss Lucy Westenra shares none of the former s

48. Essay on Why the American Civil War Lasted for Longer Than...
Why the American Civil War lasted for longer than 90 days The North had expected their war
with the south to last for no more than 90 days. They not only had more men up in the north but
they had more resources as well. Now why couldn t they defeat the south? I have to say it is due to
the incompetence of the north s generals commanding the army, and the army itself. On April 15,
1861, President Lincoln called on the states to provide 75,000 militia men for 90 days to put down
the rebellion of the south.
On the other hand, the south had the state of Virginia on its side; this gave them a better chance of
victory. It was the home of Robert E. Lee, a brave leader who had been Lincoln s choice for
commanding the union army. When Virginia... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The union went completely unprepared into this war. Where as the confederate soldiers were
country men who were used to the outdoors and were skilled in firing guns. The first major
battle of the Civil War was fought in Virginia, near the Manassas; this battle later became known
as The Battle of Bull Run. At the beginning of the five hour battle the Union soldiers had the
Confederates on the retreat, except for one brigade commanded by General Jackson. Due to
Jackson s ability to hold his ground and his stubbornness, the men saw him and his militia to
resemble a stone wall; hence he earned the nickname Stonewall Jackson. Thanks to Jackson the
Confederates were able to hold out until General Johnston showed up with 9000 reinforcements to
help out General Beauregard. The arrival changed the course of the battle and soon the Union
soldiers were fleeing back to Washington. However, because of the disorganization of Beauregard s
army, they could not pursue McDowell any further.
Rico 3
The battle proved that this was not going to be a one sided war for either side, as was predicted.
The casualties soared to 2,900 killed, wounded, captured, or missing for McDowell s army and
2,000 for Beauregard s. The battle spurred a sense of victory in the South, pushing them on, and in
the North a feeling for revenge.
If the union had simply prepared their army for battle rather than just jump into a war, they
probably would have won the
