through this chapter, Panopticism , from Discipline and Punish. I knew that the
panopticonwas the idea of a tower in a prisonwhere a guard could look and see every
prisoner. However, the prisoners do not always know when there are guards are in
the prison, so they will alter their behaviour even if they believe that they are being
watched. It all concerns surveillance curving and controlling human behaviour.
There are two key principles with the panopticon: the visibility of power (the guard
tower where everyone can see that power exists), and unverifiable power (one is not
sure when one is being watched). Importantly, the Panopticon must not be
understood as a dream building: it is the diagram of a mechanism of power reduced
to its ideal form (Foucault, 1975, p. 511). Ultimately, in Foucault s panopticon,
disciplinary power is executed through surveillance and knowledge. Although I have

Matthew 28.1 says that only Mary Magdalene and the other Mary approached the
tomb, however it does not mention the purpose of the visit. In Luke 24.1, we find
out that they are taking spices to the tomb. We do not find out the identities of they
in Luke 24 until verse 10. This suggests that Mark and Matthew want the visitors to
the tomb to be known immediately, while Luke chooses to emphasize the purpose of

Sitting in a circle, most of those who were staring at me also looked like me black
hair, squinted eyes, and yellow skin. Not twenty minutes ago, I paced around the
heart of a predominantly white college campus. Now, I was introducing myself to
the members of Asian Students United (ASU). While I was never a part of ASU, I
asked one of the organization s executive board (eboard) members Tien, who
happened to a Facebook friend if I could attend a couple of their meetings to conduct
research on Asian Americanidentity. He delightfully agreed. After all, from an
