Act Of Kindness Essay
Crafting an essay on the theme of "Act of Kindness" is, at its core, a nuanced and challenging
endeavor. The difficulty lies not in the scarcity of material or the absence of personal experiences
that exemplify kindness, but rather in the delicate balance one must strike between heartfelt
anecdotes and profound reflections. The task demands an adept weaving of narrative elements
with introspective analysis, creating a seamless tapestry that not only recounts instances of
benevolence but also delves into the deeper significance of such acts.
The challenge intensifies as the writer must transcend the clichГ©d narratives that often
accompany discussions on kindness. Striking a chord with the reader requires the injection of
authenticity and sincerity, steering clear of overly sentimental or didactic tones. Navigating this
fine line between emotive storytelling and insightful commentary necessitates a keen
understanding of the audience's expectations and an ability to evoke genuine empathy.
Furthermore, the writer must grapple with the vastness of the topic itself. Acts of kindness
manifest in myriad forms, from small, everyday gestures to grand, life-altering events. The
selection and presentation of these instances require a judicious eye for detail and a skillful hand
in constructing a coherent narrative arc. The essay should not read like a mere catalog of good
deeds but rather as a thoughtful exploration of the multifaceted nature of kindness.
In addition to the literary challenges, the writer must confront the inherent subjectivity of
kindness. What may be perceived as a profound act of benevolence by one person might be
regarded differently by another. Navigating this relativism requires a nuanced approach,
acknowledging diverse perspectives while maintaining the essay's thematic unity.
Despite these complexities, writing an essay on the topic of "Act of Kindness" offers a
rewarding opportunity for self-reflection and a celebration of the human capacity for
compassion. It is a journey that demands creativity, empathy, and intellectual rigor to produce a
piece that not only narrates stories of benevolence but also leaves a lasting impact on the reader's
consciousness.

Starbucks offers a simple call to action on its Instagram account: Tag your coffee

Macdonald Sharp, 2003 states that it is a strong influencer in the buying decision
consideration process, as most of the consumers prefer buying brands they are
aware and would like to be confident when making the purchase decision. The cost
of acquiring customers is a significant expense for most businesses so higher brand
awareness will help draw potential customers with little or no costs. Retaining
customers is an even harder process than the former so strong brand loyalty among
the customers will help sustain the business on a long term basis. Popular brands
often use tools like newsletters, promotions, and satisfaction surveys to stay in touch
with their existing to pool of customers in order to maintain brand awareness among
consumers. Brands should also focus on research related to aided and unaided brand
recall as it can help bring down marketing costs significantly while increasing the
management s understanding of the business (Holden, 1993). Aided recall looks at
what thoughts/feelings the customer associates with the brand while unaided recall
looks at what brands of a specific product category the customer can think of without
any prompts. The former helps marketing professionals to focus on building brand
awareness to attract new customers whereas the latter focuses on improving the brand
image among existing customers. Simply put, the more people are aware of the brand
The Gift Of The Magi
The Gift of The Magi
The short story (The Gift of The Magi) was written by O. Henry. O Henry full
name William Sydney porter, he wrote many short stories and one of his best
known stories is (The Gift of The Magi). The story is about a woman named Della
who saves up for to buy her husband Jim to buy him a Christmas gift. She saves up
and on Christmas day she has one dollar and eighty seven cents to buy Jim a gift.
she sells her hair and gets 20 dollars for it and buys Jim a gold watch chain for his
nice gold watch he owns that has been passed down from generation to generation.
Jim sold his watch to get Della the chair combs she loved. In the end the all loved
one another and didn t care about the gifts. In the story (The Gift of The Magi) one
literary theme is imagery they use biblical, visual, and tactile imagery. In the story
(The Gift of the Magi) there is three times when Biblical imagery is used. If a
queen had lived in the rooms near theirs, Della would have washed and dried her
hair where the queen could see it. Della knew her hair was more beautiful than any
queen s jewels and gifts. (Henry 2). This is a line from the story is saying that the
Queen Sheba would be jealous of Della s hair. Queen Sheba is a queen from the
Bible. if I king had lived in the same house with all his riches, Jim would have
looked at his watch every time they met. Jim knew that no king had anything so
valuable. (henry 3 4). Again, here (The Gift of The Magi) this shows that Biblical

Individual Needs Assessment
To evaluate the level of training needed, we conducted one formal needs
assessment test focusing on both new and old employee differences. We decided to
administer a 10 question questionnaire to all of our employees instead of a personal
interview or other forms of survey. We administered this test within a week span
allowing enough time to collect data from all of our employees giving ample time
for individuals who were not scheduled certain days to also have the opportunity to
participate in the questionnaire. The test overall was designed to measure how new
and old individuals working for the recreation center felt about how adequately
trained they were when going about completing their daily job duties. The test results

Welcome Edward to Bravo Team Company. We have many different groups within
Bravo Company, and as a manager you will need to be up to speed quickly on some
of the common communication barriers within the company. The common barriers,
such as Disruptive team members, language, listening, and group think, are some of
the ones that we have seen in the past. I have given examples and also techniques on
how some managers have handled these barriers. I also wanted to let you know a
little about conflicts in groups, which can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The same is also true with the use of slang in conversations. Remember that English
might not be all the team member s first language.
* Listening Barrier
Another type of communication barrier is the listening barrier. Listening is harder
than you think. You have to become an active listener. You need to pay attention to
what a team member is saying. If you do not pay attention in meetings, then you
may look like you do not care about what others have to say. If you are trying to
focus on when you can jump into the conversation, it may make you seem unable
to relate to others around you. Once George came in to see me, and I was working
on the financials. I knew he had come in, and I thought I was listening, but I need
to get the reports done. He spoke to me, I must have answered him, but when I
finished. I thought back to why George had come in, and I could not remember. So,
I had to go and ask George what he had asked before which was a little
embarrassing. So, I had to figure out how not to have this happen again.
* A Technique that I have found helpful, as I am guilty of not actively listening, is
to make sure I focus on what people are saying. It is difficult to do, as you may
want to rehearse what you want to say. If you use active listening, you should be
able to see when there is a pause and be able to jump into the conversation. I am
guilty of having people walk into my office, and because I

A Search Warrant For Criminal Activity
A search warrant is a signed order by a judge/magistrate that authorizes the police
to search specific locations in order to seize specified items during a specific time
frame. The searches are typically intended to search locations seize evidence in
relation to probable cause that the suspects are engaged in criminal activity, are
about to engage in criminal activity or had engaged in criminal activity. The concept
for search warrants originates from the 4th Amendment which states The right of the
people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against
unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated; and no Warrants shall
issue but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly
describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized. The
Fourth Amendment can be broken down into two sections. The first section is
considered the reasonableness clause where it states that unreasonable searches and
seizures are prohibited. The next section is the warrant clause which specifies the
requirements and limits of searches and seizures. Through these clauses, the 4th
Amendment is designed to protect the people from unreasonable searches and
seizures. In order to obtain a search warrant, the police must show probable cause
that a crime was committed and that evidence of that crime is likely to exist at the
specified location. The police typically present their application for a search warrant
to a neutral
Susan Glaspell Trifles
In the short story, Susan Glaspell s (1916) Trifles, tells a perplexing mystery in
which a woman s husband was strangled to death while laying in bed next to her
sleeping. There are points in the story which Mrs. Wright, whose being held in
custody, seems to be stereotyped by the men. As the County Attorney, Sheriff, and
Hale walk through the farmhouse investigating the scene, Mrs. Peters and Mrs. Hale
sit at a table observing Mrs. Wright s kitchen connecting dots themselves about what
might have led to the murder of Mrs. Wright s husband. As the men come down the
stairs, the County Attorney says, No, Peters, it s all perfectly clear except the reason
for doing it. But you know juries when it comes to women. If there was some definite
Strengths Of Toyota
For my analysis, I chose Toyota which is the second biggest car company following
Volkswagen. It is known to be really competitive and sold in many places around the
world.
Toyota has many strengths. It has a strong global position and cars manufactured
by Toyota have been sold in many places in the world. It sold 9.7 million cars and
trucks, and had 45.5% of the market share in Japan in 2012. It has a market share of
12.2% in North America, 13.4% in Asia and 4.3% in Europe. (Anon, 2015) Such
strong global position is because of company s high quality products and strong brand
recognition with its well known environmental friendliness, durability, social
responsibility, reliablility and value. Toyota also has been the most valuable auto
company ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It has conducted a numerous number of vehicle recalls over the last few years,
which affected its brand image and its financial performance. For instance, during
2009 and 2010, more than 9 million Toyota and Lexusvehicles were recalled due to
the wrong floor mats installed that were interfering with the gas pedal, and the
firm suspended production and sales. In 2011, 111,000 vehicles from Toyota and
Lexus were again recalled due to the damage to the element of the substrate
shutdown of hybrid system. And later in the year, Toyota announced to recall
181,000 vehicles due to the non ordinary noise and oil leakage, which have
resulted from the bolts that were loosely attached. (MacKenzie, 2015) Beside these
recalls, there have been lawsuits for vehicle failure. Toyota has a lower return on
equity (13.9%) and return on asset (4.9%) than other auto companies such as Honda
and Nissan. If you compare Toyota and Honda, you can tell that asset turnover ratio
for Nissan is 81%, while Toyota only has 60%. (Basu, 2015) This shows that Honda
is using its asset more efficiently to make profits. Lower return on equity and asset
shows that Toyota is not generating much returns for its shareholders compared to
other companies and inefficient use of shareholders

The Life and Contribution to the Development of the British Empire of James Cook
I) Introduction
The purpose of this paper is to describe the life and the contribution to the
development of the British Empire of one of the most important English explorers. It
was in the second half of the 18th century when James Cook, originally a poor farm
boy, explored and mapped vast uncharted areas of the Pacific and the Atlantic Ocean.
However, James Cook was not only an explorer. He can also be called a scientist he
managed to introduce new principles into seafaring and cartography.
For better understanding, the paper is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is
the introduction, which throws light on the purpose and ... Show more content on

Such a structure of commerce enabled the immense growth of wealth of the country.
An imperial enthusiasm the British found out that they could grow rich from the
trade with their colonies. As a result it led to a constant, unending search for new
markets for British products, new trading centres and eventually, new lands to settle
their surplus criminals and poor, unemployed citizens.
New inventions in navigation these inventions had a profound influence, not only
upon Britain, but even upon much of the rest of the world. John Hadley s invention
of the reflecting quadrant made it possible to determine the latitude at noon or by
night. Extremely accurate, it was quickly adopted by the admiralty (1730). John
Harrison s ship chronometer was to revolutionise the world s shipping (1736). A new
method of combating scurvy was found James Lind recommended to use citrus juice
(1747) and finally, John Campbell introduced the new sextant to the Royal Navy
(1757). All of these inventions helped to create Britain s naval supremacy.
A new philosophical approach the 18th century in Western Europe is the beginning of
the Age of Reason, the philosophers and scientists stressed the value of global
discovery, of learning more about the earth and of collecting unusual flora and fauna
from around the globe.
Thus Great Britain established (or
Duality In Dr Jekyll And Hyde
During the Victorian Era, many people appeared as great contributing members of
society and were praised, but were later looked down upon for their hidden secrets or
actions committed. This is referred as duality, which also means having a double
life. Duality is expressed in Robert Louis Stevenson s book, The Strange Case of Dr
Jekyll and Mr Hyde, Which takes place during the Victorian Era. Duality was very
common during the Victorian era. Many politicians and famous people during this
time tried their best to hide their second life, which contained many secrets.
Eventually, these secrets were publicly exposed, trashing their public image. The idea
of hypocrisy, authenticity, and conformity contribute to evil and are all shown in the
book... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This shows relevance due to the fact that Dr Jekyll uses this potion to become
someone else, losing control of his true self. His true desires include murders and
being a cold hearted person, which he can only do while being Mr Hyde. This is as
an excuse to pursue bad behavior because he feels that he doesn t have control over
the situation, and wouldn t do it as his normal self, when in reality, he craves this
bad behavior but does not want to be caught doing them while being Dr Jekyll
because he doesn t want to lose his respected image.
The author uses Dr Jekyll as an example to show that for a society to strive and be
successful they must show conformity and value the morals and rules that are
necessary to live in their society. Conformity was very important during the
victorian era. Conformity is to basically fit in and be normal. Dr Jekyll shows
conformity by being a respectable doctor and being known throughout the
community as being a normal person. Dr Jekyll throws this away when he
becomes Mr Hyde because he does not conform with the rules of the Victorian era.
He also does not choose to get help for his addiction. One can assume that he does
not want to get the help for his addiction because he feels like he can manage his
addiction while keeping his morals and virtues without having them disturbed. When
he is Dr Henry Jekyll, he has morals and
The Freedom Of The United States
As we all know, freedom is a very meaningful word, and it has a variety expressions
and definitions. I can define the word freedom as liberty, independence, acting
spontaneously, expressing yourself with no fears, being positive and making your
own choices. All people in the entire world like to be free with no barrier or any
kind of obstacles, emotionally and physically. Human beings deserve to be free and
live their life with no struggles. The most moment I felt entirely free is when I went
back home to my country, Morocco, to visit my family after a period living in the U.S.
I personally prefer to be free from any complications, but it s a pretty difficult in
our society as a Muslim girl to be permitted to do something without control.
Moreover, we are prohibited for certain things than in the US, for example going at
night to have fun with friends or having a dinner at a late hour. Since I got married,
I decided to move and live with my husband because he works and live in the US.
In the beginning, it was a little hard for me to leave my parents and live in a far
country than my homeland. However, I realized that I will have a lot of
opportunities and chances in the US such as freedom. There are a lot of situations
when I feel completely at liberty while I am living in the US, but at the same time it s
rare when I could feel open and relaxed from all the troubles, for instance, work hard
to satisfy my needs and study to achieve my goals and dreams.
Moreover, I don t

Minimum Wage and Its Implications
Minimum wage affects everyone. The current minimum wage is at $7.25 and
President Obama announced that he wished to see a change in the minimum wage,
he wants to raise the hourly wage to $10.10. A rise in the income of those who are
employed will also raise the cost of hiring unskilled labor and can potentially reduce
the number of people hired by businesses. Also, if minimum wageis raised then the
price of the products that the companies are making might increase which will
continue the cycle of minimum wage not being enough to survive on. The increase
of minimum wage will result in negative effects that will have a significant impact
on national economy. The federal minimum wage originated in the Fair Labor
Standards Act (FLSA) signed by President Franklin Roosevelt on June 25, 1938.
The FLSA originally only covered about 38 percent of the labor force, mostly in the
transportation, manufacturing, and mining industries. As the years went on the
FLSA began covering more and more people. Over the years, Congress
significantly expanded the coverage and increased the wage rate. Over the course
of 76 years the federal minimum wage has raised 22 times (Wilson). The first
minimum wage stood at 25 cents an hour (Sherk). The last minimum wage increase
occurred in 2007, when Congress raised the wage slowly from $5.15 an hour to
$7.25 an hour in July 2009 (Sherk). Congress typically raises the minimum wage
during times of healthy economic growth and low unemployment. Who earns the
Coriolanus And Sicinius Essay
In this paper I will argue that both Sicinius and Coriolanus through their language
in the passages display their desire for power and control in the play. Sicinius
shows this desire when he attempts to fix his lack of control due to emotion as he
mentions the power of the Plebeians and Coriolanus imminent exile. Coriolanus
displays his desire for power and control when in his speech, he struggles to keep
control of his anger and attempts to use his pride to gain power over his banishment.
Sicinuis speech in this passage is poetry, as he is a Roman tribune and politician.
This also indicates the importance of his speech, as he is attempting to guide the
interests of the people that look to him for guidance. To Sicinius, the best... Show

Sicinius wants the tribunes to be as powerful as they can be, and he wants
Coriolanus banished from the city. The control is evident through these lines
becoming end stopped, and he feels in control now because he knows that the
power to the tribunes and Coriolanus exile is imminent. Sicinius speech starts off
with soft consonants: For that hhhhe hhhhas,/ As much as in hhhhim lies (3.3, 90
91). This is to give the effect of softening the tone of his speech; Sicinius wants to
be composed about what he is going to say. However, he immediately after
embodies plosive sounds: To ppppluck away their ppppower (3.3, 93). These
explosive sounds portray the passion and anger in what he feels Coriolanus is
trying to do by stripping the people of their power. The wordplay in this passage by
Sicinius is on the word pluck ; Sicinius uses this word to display the (MED) taking
away of power that does not belong to him, and plucking the people until there is
nothing left of them as Coriolanus does not respect the Plebeians. Also, when
Sicinius says, In peril of precipitation (3.3, 99), the MED refers to this meaning that
Coriolanus presence brings about danger of the casting down of evil
Garmin Analysis
Garmin Analysis| Following the Business Decision | By.ENRIQUE
KELSO.FINANCIAL Abstract Garmin is a producer of GPS technology, based in
Taiwan, but with major offices in Switzerland and incorporation in the Cayman
Islands (MSN Moneycentral, 2013). The company enjoyed strong growth for much of
the 2000s, only to see that growth deteriorate when its core technology, GPS, was
installed in smartphones. Prior to that point, Garmin sold its global positioning
systems as separate units, sometimes for hundreds of dollars. The obsolescence of its
core computer product had many observers questioning the long term viability of the
company (Seeking Alpha, 2009; Ganapati, 2008; Moritz, 2008). The company

The choice of capital structure will vary from one company to another and from
one industry to another, so this figure has to be understood in context. For Garmin,
the current debt to equity ratio is 0.36, which means that the company has a fairly
low level of leverage. This ratio is indicative of a generally conservative financial
approach by Garmin s management, as five years ago the debt to equity ratio was
0.31. Garmin has never been highly leveraged. While this means that the company
s cost of capital is perhaps a bit higher than it needs to be, it also means that Garmin
was well insulated against a strong downturn in the company s fortunes as remains
so today. With respect to profitability, Garmin s old GPS units were highly
profitable items, so it is interest to see what has happened to the firm s profitability.
The gross margin in 2012 was 53%, whereas in 2008 it was 44.4%. Thus, the
company has actually seen its gross margin increase after the demise of the GPS
market, and it has also been able to continue to enjoy healthy margins, by taking a
conservative attitude towards costs. The current net margin is a healthy 20%,
compared with 20.9%, so there has been little change to the bottom line. This means
that again the stories of Garmin s demise were greatly exaggerated. Another set of
metrics is the investment return metrics. With these, Garmin has a return on equity
of 16.65%, and a five year average ROE of
Repetition Of Lucille Clifton s White Lady
Repetition in Lucille Clifton s white lady I like persimmons. I like persimmons. I like
persimmons. There. I ve repeated the phrase thrice. Now, if I asked you to identify
whether I like persimmons or not, you would, almost certainly, say yes. Having the
same statement reiterated three times makes one more confident that it s not only
important, but that it s a fact in this context! In Lucille Clifton s white lady, a tone of
desperation is conveyed through repetition of words, phrases, and sentence structures.
Moreover, repetition highlights that desperation is unique not only to the loved ones
of the cocaineaddicts, but to White Lady as well. As an aside before we begin, I will
note that tone is a complex element within poetry. Hence, it is often conveyed
through a mish mash of literature devices, such as repetition, line breaks, diction,
etc. Therefore, I will not claim that this discussion is a comprehensive one that
describes all the myriad ways tone has been emphasized in the poem; I will merely
discuss one contributing factor to tone. On the surface, repetition is used for
conveying White Lady s greediness. Repetition first appears in the first to third
lines of the poem, where the word wants is at the start of each. If Clifton wanted to
illustrate how desperately White Lady wished to take away people s loved ones,
why didn t she utilize any other synonyms? For example, she could ve used wants in
the first line, desires in the second, and pines for in

palm patent infringment issue date: June 19, 2014 c: steve holmes, patent attorney
This memo is to recommend that ttools should stop negotiations with Palm and take
immediate legal action through patent litigation means. This action is needed in order
to protect ttools innovation and for survivability of ttools business. Based on the
design patent and non disclosure agreement with Palm it is very clear that Palm has
committed the infringement hence chances of ttools winning of litigation case are
high. There are high chances that Palm might consider to settle the litigation before

Based on the recent communications with Palm, it is clear that they are not
interested in negotiating with ttools despite the fact that they have reminded them
about infringement. Palm is already in a contract with IDEO to design a stylus
similar to ttools which means that Palm will cease to publish any ads about ttools
products from their online newsletter. Negotiating or competing without taking any
action to stop infringement of its intellectual property would not enable ttools to
leverage its core organizational strengths in competing with Palm. In its current
state ads through the online newsletter is the most helpful marketing tool for ttools
to reach out to the PDA owners. If Palm stops publishing ads which is highly likely
action from Palm s perspective in order to promote their own product ttools need to
develop their own marketing capabilities. Even if they start their marketing
campaign, ttools might not be able to compete Palm in terms of resources and
market reach. The other alternative of ceasing negotiation and competing with Palm
might not be very effective because of the fact that we do not have the capabilities
to set a solid ground for such competition. Even if ttools start competing based on its
superior pricing and material quality, Palm could easily match its pricing and
material quality as long as they could infringe ttools product design. If ttools does not
file litigation charges, Palm has not compelling reason to
Influenza Vaccines
Thousands of people die each year due to infectious diseases. There are several
vaccines recommended yearly in hopes of reducing the number of preventable
infectious diseases. It is important for all people especially healthcare workers to
understand how these vaccines are vital for infection control. The recommendations
for annual flu vaccinations are increasing among healthcare workers around the world
in order to improve infection control practices. Although, there are many factors that
influence healthcare workers and adults in general perceptions about receiving
vaccines in general. One s knowledge, attitude, belief and healthcare coverage can
affect their adherence to infection control practices. This purpose of this critique is to
determine which to articles about the perceptions of influenzavaccinations among
health care workers and adults in general, provide a guide to evidence based practice

The first study by Ullrich et al. (2014), examined the association between the
perception of evidence and adherence of prevention strategies of H1N1 influenza.
The second study by MacDougall et al. (2015), assessed how adult of the public and
healthcare provider s attitudes, behaviors, beliefs and knowledge relates to vaccines
and vaccine preventable diseases. The articles are relevant because they point out
reasons for healthcare workers and people of the general public not complying with
strategies to improve infection control as well as being able to improve infection
control. Facilities who have healthcare workers who are in favor of following
guidelines for infection control such as vaccinations can have a greater impact on the
general public and other healthcare workers adhering to the guidelines for infection
Women In Medieval Time Period
The medieval britain time period was the start of the noticeability for women.
Women were beginning to rise in control in this time period. They were gaining
more respect and honor than previous time periods, whereas women were only
known to keep the house and children. However, women were also known for their
seductiveness in this time period. They also were more loved for their virtues
rather than their prettiness. Women in the medieval time period were being put in
more higher places and were being on more power. In the medieval time period
women were increasingly becoming more noticed as well as being put in high
places. Before the twelfth century there was no place for women to reign as
queens. Only after the death of a king did a queen hold the royal chair for but a
brief time until either a husband was suitable for the royal crown or a son who
was not old enough yet reached the appropriate age to rule in government with his
mother. However, there were three daughters of kings Alfonso VI of Castile,
Baldwin II of Jerusalem, and Henry I of England forced the problem of female
succession after failure of male heirs to be acknowledged. Urraca utilized full
authority instantly after Alfonso VI s death. She was unquestionably the ruler of the
royal chair in her own right for a time. Melisende never ruled the royal chair
completely on her own, however, her husband Count Fulk of Anjou was not formally
affiliated with her at first during the time of Baldwin II was still
Ketones Lab Report
The Carbonyl group, found on the ketone, is a polar group due to the oxygen atom
being more electronegative than the carbon atom. This creates a molecule that is
slightly polar. It is a relatively stable molecule with a relatively high boiling point.
All three Ketones on the table have a boiling point close to water or substantially
higher. The carbonatomin the carbonyl group is not electronegative enough to give a
partial charge large enough for hydrogen bonding to the hydrogen atoms in
Pentanone.
Butanoic Acid, however, has a much higher boiling point than all three ketones.
Butanoic acid does not have the highest molecular mass. This phenomenon can be
attributed to hydrogen bonding. Due to the way the carboxylic molecule is arranged,

This resonance creates stability. The distribution of the negative charge on the
carboxylate ion increases stability because the charges are divided. Each oxygen
bears a charge of negative 1/2. This reduction in charge concentration increases
stability. Furthermore, two molecules of a carboxylic acid creates two hydrogen
bonds. They exist as dimers or pairs. In the liquid state and sometimes in the vapour
state these dimmers remain in tact. In effect, the molecular weight is doubled when
dimmers exists in vapours. extra energy is required to break two hydrogen bonds. In
actual fact, many carboxylic acids ( ie benzoic, palmitic acid) are solids at room
Othello s Influence On The World Of Opera
Verdi s Othello has had a profound influence on the world of opera, and considered
by many critics to be his best work. Othello has been performed throughout the
world, debuting in over 25 countries within the first fifty years of its creation
(Stanford). It has been performed all over the globe by world renowned operettists,
in theatres such as the Lincoln Center in New York, the Sydney OperaHouse in
Sydney, and the Bolshoi in Russia. Othellois about a general who is led to believe his
wife is cheating on him, when in reality she is not, and deceived by Iago, a man he
trusted. Othello has two love duets between the same characters, but with very
different moods and relationships, which are portrayed through the dialogue, the
stage actions, and most importantly the musical strategies employed.
The opera Othello was written by Verdi, one of the most prominent opera writers in
the late 1800 s. He was born in 1813 in northern Italy, however, most of his work
took place in Milan, Italy. This is where, on February 5th of 1887, Othello was first
performed, at the Teatro alla Scala (Stanford). Verdi s opera Othello is based off of
Shakespeare s play Othello, which was written in 1622. Verdi based many of his
operas off of Shakespeare s plays, such as his opera ВВMacbeth that was based on
the play Macbeth, first performed in 1847, and his opera Falstaff, based on the play
The Merry Wives of Windsor, first performed in 1893. In Othello, a black Moor

Type 2 Diabetes Causes
There are many different causes of Type 2 Diabetes, the two main causes of Type 2
Diabetes are genetics, this means that if an individuals parent has Type 2 Diabetes,
their child is at a higher risk of contracting the disease also. Lifestyle factors such as
having an unhealthy diet and lack of exercise are a cause of Diabetes. Age One factor
affecting the cause of Type 2 Diabetes is age. Age affects the cause of the disease as
individuals over the age of 40 are more likely to contract it. This is due to the lack of
exercise and unhealthy eating that individuals may be doing, leading to weight
gain. Over 65 s are at a greater risk as they become a lot more inactive, due to
retirement and not going out to work everyday, than those over the age of 40. Over

Weight gain due to unhealthy diets and lack of exercise is the main cause of the
older generation contracting Type 2 Diabetes due to lack of mobility. Individuals
could have lack of mobility for many reasons including weight gain, arthritis and
due to their bodies ageing. I believe that the older generation are always going to be
the higher percentage of individuals contracting Type 2 Diabetes, however in 2013
/14 19.1% of children ages 10 11 were obese. If this continues then children will be
at a higher risk of contracting diseases such as heart disease and diabetes (NOO,
2015). Within the UK around 31,500 children under the age of 19 have diabetes,
around 95.1% have type 1 diabetes. Many children are diagnosed between the ages
of 9 and 14 years of age, the prevalence rate of Type 1 Diabetes in children and
young people is 187.8 per 100,000 (Facts and Stats, 2015). It could be suggested
that children and young people are not participating in as much exercise as they
should be and are not eating the correct foods, this could be due to snacking on sugary
Narcissistic Personality Disorder Essay
Everyone knows someone who seems to be completely wrapped up in themselves.
They seem to only care about themselves, and they seem to think that they are better
than every one. Some of these people probably have narcissistic personality
disorder. This personality disorder is defined as, ...a broad pattern of grandiosity,
need for admiration, and lack of empathy (Comer, 2010, p. 531). People with
narcissistic personality disorderare convinced of their own greatness; whether it be
their success, artistic skill, or beauty. They also require the constant attention and
admiration of the people around them. But, this is not all that is involved in this
disorder. People with narcissistic personality disorderare extremely self... Show more

This too is typical of people with narcissistic personality disorder. People with this
disorder tend to be very picky, or choosey, when it come to who their friends and
associates are. Since they consider themselves to be special, they think that only those
who are also special are deserving of their time. A narcissistic personality may also
surround themselves with dependent personalities, because those with dependent
personalities will give them the constant praise and adulation that they require. Again
we turn to Brother John for an example, He is an excellent teacher and has inspired
many students. He has always had a group of students, usually dependent
personalities... (Rosetti, 1999). These students would often be called upon to defend
Brother John when his behavior was questioned by supervisors. Brother John using
his students in this way touches upon another trait common to those with narcissistic
personality disorder. People with this disorder are often manipulative, and use other
to achieve their own ends. According to Ronald Comer, they may do this partly out
of envy (2010, p. 234). I think that it is more likely that this is just a branch of
another common character trait amongst those with narcissistic personalities, that
being a lack of empathy. People with this disorder are seldom interested in the
feelings of others, and so they probably never take those feelings into consideration
when they are manipulating

Blanchard was required to travel on a regular basis because of his involvement in
the anti slavery movement. His journeys provided him with many opportunities
and eventually led to several academic offers. In 1843, Jonathan traveled to
London as a delegate to the world s Anti Slavery Convention. The next year he

The Sex Of Sex Work
The world of sex work has been around for countless years. Hollywood portrays it
as a normal way of life in all the cowboy movies and put a glamorous feel around it.
However, Hollywood is about selling dreams and fantasy, though the reality is quite
different. The reality is that sex work is dangerous. The act in and of itself is not
usually dangerous, nevertheless, the situations in which it needs to be conducted are.
Today s sex work incorporates more than just prostitution; the adult film industry,
Dom/Sub work, phone sex operators, together with exotic dancing are all considered
sex work. The focus of this essay has been narrowed down to just the prostitution
aspect of sex work and the decriminalization for the means of creating a safer
environment for the worker. Decriminalization of this particular type of sex work
would render the job safer for the workers given that they would have the ability to
screen clients, an established place of employment, safety in numbers, a positive
relationship with law enforcement, and enhanced means to protect themselves from
health risks.
Screening of the clients is a key aspect of keeping the sex workers safe. Screening
the clients is a lot about reading people, their clothes, their attitude, how they hold
themselves and trusting the experience of the worker s instinct. The screening
process will not work every single time, however, the ability to make the decision to
go with a client or not can save the workers life. Escorts and

At T Inc. Essay
AT T Inc. secured a $85.4 billion blockbuster deal to buy Time Warner Inc. and
promised to reshape the media landscape. If this deal were to be approved, AT T
would combine its millions of wireless and pay television subscribers with Time
Warner s stable of TV networks and programming (Gryta). This potential merger has
drawn many comparisons to Comcast s acquisition of NBC Universal in 2011.
Despite the acquisition of NBC Universal successfully going through, U.S. regulatory
officials and rivals have expressed concerns that some government conditions
regarding Comcast s behavior, such as its requirement to not weigh in on strategic
decisions at streaming service Hulu, were tough to monitor and enforce (Gryta).
Many rival executives and members of Congress share the same fear regarding the
AT T and Time Warner
merger. There is the belief that this potential deal would put
too much concentration of power in the hands of too few (Gryta).
Essentially, people are worried that if this deal were to go through, AT T would gain
significantly more control over the television market which could potentially result
in fewer choices and higher prices. Furthermore, by acquiring Time Warner, AT T
would gain the ability to offer more of Time Warner s content for its existing
customers and woo new ones by offering perks to access Time Warner s hit shows
(Illmer). AT T customers could possibly stream certain television content without it
eating into their data plans (Illmer) and
The Renaissance And The Scientific Revolution
the Renaissance, also known as the rebirth, was a cultural movement that started an
artistic transformation and started the scientific revolution. This time period also
links the transition from the end of the Middle Ages to the beginning of the Modern
Age. The Renaissance started in Italy in the 14th century and spread to northern
Europe by the 16th century.
During the Renaissance artists changed the way they painted and sculpted, they
learned how to paint in all three dimensions, which brought life and realism to their
works. Also, getting away from the religious roots of art created an entirely new type
of art that was rich in drama and emotion. This was also the time period when
painting with oils was started.
In this paper I m focusing mainly on Renaissance art work, since that was the
assignment, but I feel it s important to also mention the other important partsof the
Renaissance, architecture, science, politics and religion.

Hence, it is evident that the paper and the printing devices were the most influencing

How Ancient Greek Philosophy Influenced the Early Church
Spiritual gifts are to be exercised in an orderly way by all (men and women) so that
all may learn (1 Cor 14:31; Dr. Martin Hanna). Ancient Greek philosophers Plato and
Aristotle thought beyond the pagan societies in which they lived and numerous
elements found in their philosophies were embraced by Jewish and Christian
religious leaders. The common thread was the effort to understand God as revealed in
nature as well as His interaction with humans.85 The philosophers sought many of
the answers that Christians often ponder. Both groups wanted to know more about
their creator, what were the abilities of God, His morality, and how did the human
soul come about. Plato s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Invasion of Afghanistan Essay
Invasion of Afghanistan
Even before the terrorist attack on the World Trade Centre in New York on
September 11th 2001, Afghanistan was probably the most isolated country in the
world. Only three other states recognised its rulers, who in the mid 1990s had
swept across the country to impose a very strict and distinctive form of Islamic law
upon the Afghan people, ending nearly 20 years of civil war in the 90% or so of the
country which they control. Osama Bin Laden, an exiled Saudi Arabian who is the
USA s prime suspect for the World Trade Centre atrocity and other terrorist attacks in
the 1990s, had based his Al Qa ida organisation in Afghanistan since 1996. The

The Afghan people have suffered greatly under Taliban rule, especially women and
ethnic and religious minority groups, and they deserve a different and better
government. In the past few years the Taliban have made it very difficult for the UN

Medium term an invasion would improve matters.
Even if the Taliban were judged to be equally guilty with Bin Laden, the Afghan
people are not; the Taliban conquered the country with the help of Bin Laden and
thousands of other foreign, mostly Arab, fighters, and their rule is heavily
oppressive. The invasion of Afghanistan is still likely in the long run to lead to a
prolonged power struggle or civil war between different ethnic groups or local
warlords, as before 1996. This will lead to many innocent lives being lost in the
crossfire, prevent humanitarian aid that is desperately needed after three years of
drought reaching millions of starving Afghans, and create a terrible refugee crisis.
Invasion was the only way to try to capture or destroy Bin Laden and his terrorist
organisation. Bombing on its own can prepare the way for a ground invasion,
guaranteeing air supremacy and disrupting the enemy s command and control
systems, but
The Greatest Golfer Of All Time
When asked who is the greatest golfer of all time, what is the first name that comes
to mind? This question has been debated for years and will continue to be for
many years to come. Initially, most people will jump the gun and say Jack
Nicklaus is the clear favorite because he has won eighteen major championships
compared to Tiger s fourteen. It s quite hard to tell them they are in the wrong
considering the major s are what every golfer dreams of winning and are without a
doubt the most hard to come by. Being that there are only four per year, when you

Next, I d like to look the consistency and longevity of these two super athletes. One
key statistical edge Tiger has over Jack is total wins. He currently has seventy nine
wins with many years left to add to that number, whereas Jack retired with only
seventy three. He also trumped Nicklaus with his 142 consecutive cuts made, a
streak that lasted more than seven years. Nicklaus best was 105, which sits third on
the all time list. However, if being great is more about dominating their opposition
rather than just compiling numbers, then again Tiger comes out on top. Tiger has a
record setting ten seasons on the PGA Tourin which he won five or more
tournaments. Jack sits in third once again with a total of seven. With this being
said, it s no surprise Woods has also comprised the most money titles on tour along
with the most player of the year awards. Not to mention he has as claimed the most
Vardon trophies for the best scoring average on tour. No one can argue the fact that
Tiger has been the game s undisputed best player more times than Nicklaus. Woods
most impressive stat would have to be that of the fact that he won twenty seven
percent of the time he competed. This is extremely impressive because Jack only
came out the victor twelve percent on the time when he competed. One must take into
consideration that Nicklaus
The Chapter Wandering Rocks
The chapter Wandering Rocks is unique in multiple ways just as how it has
multiple character perspectives. It took me a second to figure out that the words
wandering rocks actually correlate to Ulysses (as in the book we are reading), and
the character Ulysses in the Odyssey. Ulysses, Joyce s novel, correlates to
wandering rocks as in the chapter, Wandering Rocks , the reader has a taste of
Leopold s journey from different characterperspectives. For example, when the
character Ned Lambert said, bring the camera whenever you like. I ll get those

Gun Control Is Bad
Gun control is people control. A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the
security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be
infringed. Without our second amendment right the people of the United States of
America would be susceptible to abuse from a tyrannical government, and unable
to defend themselves from the criminals within society. The theory of gun control
has become a controversial topic due to recent mass shootings that call into
question the safety of the people of this great country. The fact is that gun control
does not work. The city of Chicago Illinois is a prime example. Chicago has some
of the strictest gun control laws in the country, as well as one of the highest crime
rates in the country. On the other hand in Kennesaw Georgia every resident in the
city is required by law to own at least one firearm. Immediately after passing their
unusual gun law crime rates fell dramatically, so much so that in two thousand
eleven through two thousand thirteen there were no murders, twenty two
robberies, and no rape cases. (Wm. Craig Graydon) If a bill was passed into law
banning firearms there would be no way to collect these weapons from criminals,
only from the law abiding citizens. Even in a perfect world were the government
would be able to take every gun from every citizen, the criminals would still be able
to smuggle or make homemade firearms such as pen guns, and innocent people
would be unable to protect themselves.

ELIZABETH I SPEECH TO THE TROOPS AT TILBURY (1588)
HISTORICAL ANALYSIS
The text. This text is a political speech delivered on 9 August Old Style, 19 August
New Style 1588 by Queen Elizabeth I of England to the land forces earlier
assembled at Tilbury in Essex in preparation of repelling the expected invasion by the
Spanish Armada.
Queen Elizabeth supported pirates due to the serious economical crisis that England
was facing to (at that time, England have been at war against France for several
years; this war had entailed huge expenses to the coffers of England). Pirates
supported royal finances back.
The main problem of Queen Elizabeth was Mary I, Queen of Scots. She was deposed
and came to England in order to take refuge; ... Show more content on

Queen Elizabeth was born in Greenwich Palace on September 7, 1533. She died on
March 24, 1603, of natural causes. Her father was Henry VII. His second wife, Anne
Boleyn was Elizabeth s mother. King Henry wanted a son, but received a daughter,
instead, from his second wife. Before Elizabeth s third birthday, Henry had her
mother beheaded in charges of adultery and treason.
Elizabeth was brought up in a separate household at Hatfield (not known). King
Henry s third wife gave birth to a son. This boy was named Edward. Edward was
declared first in line for King Henry s throne, while Mary (Daughter of Henry s first
wife) was declared second, and Elizabeth was declared third and last in line for the
throne.
Elizabeth received a thorough education that was normally reserved for men. She
was taught by special tutors of whom, the most known, was a Cambridge humanist
by the name of Roger Ascham. Roger Ascham wrote about Elizabeth, Her mind has
no womanly weakness. Her perseverance is equal to that of a man and her memory
long keeps what it quickly picks up. With the help of these tutors, she was not only
fluent in two languages, but in four languages. She was fluent in the languages of
Greek, Latin, French, and Italian.
When Henry died in 1547, her brother, Edward, took over the throne at ten years of
age. Edward, with a short reign on the throne, died in 1553, and Elizabeth s half,
older sister, Mary took the throne. Mary, like Edward, died on November 17, 1558,

Acid-Base Titration Lab Report
Acid Base Titration
BQ: 1) what is the strength of the antacid?
2) How accurate/precise is this strength?
Safety consideration:
Goggles and gloves must be worn at all time during experiment to prevent any
contact with eyes and skin. If spilled any chemical in gloves throw it away and wear
a new one immediately. Handle all chemical carefully. Handle all carefully to prevent
from breaking.
Procedure and Tests:
Week 1 1) 600ml of a 0.5M NaOH solution will be needed, 3MNaOH is provided.
Determine how much of the 3M NaOH will be needed. 2) Determine how many mls
of a 0.5M NaOH solution will be required to titrate 1.2g of potassium hydrogen
phthalate to the nolphthalein endpoint. 3) Use bromothymol blue or ... Show more

It is very likely for this strength not to be accurate because, it is likely to have errors
on the previous calculations and data.
Reading, Reflection:
The main possible source of errors on this experiment is based on the measurement
of mass and volume for the experiment, which could affect moles of NaOH and HCl,
could as well affect the antacid titration. One question I have after this experiment is
that, how the increasing of mole of the tablet would affect the titration? This
experimental work can be related to lecture on how acid and acid bases interact to
each other, and also this experiment give a better understanding on term pH. A real
life application for acid base titration is that is use in medicine and most food

Journey of Self Discovery in Thomas Pynchons The Crying of Lot 49
Thomas Pynchons The Crying of Lot 49 challenges the readers perception of the
world by enfolding his readers, through a variety of means, within the intricate
workings of his narrative. It centers around would be heroine Oedipa Maas whose
life is turned upside down when she discovers that she has been made executor of
the estate of old flame and entrepreneur Pierce Inverarity. When she is imposed upon
to travel to the fictional city of San Narcisco, where Inverarity is said to have
numerous real estate holdings, in order to carry out her task, Oedipa stumbles upon a
muted post horn; the first of many clues leading her deep into the impenetrable
conspiracy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Like Pynchons reader s, Oedipa is forced to either work toward interpreting the
trail of seemingly indecipherable clues being tossed in her wake or forgo it all and
walk away in bewilderment. Like the reader by deciding to go on, however
aimlessly, she is forcibly drawn out of the complacency of her own existence; into
a chaotic system of intrigue that reaches far beyond her normal scope of
understanding. In the same turn, like Oedipa the reader s role is also based on
interpreting numerous symbols and metaphorical clues as a means of stumbling
upon a legible conclusion that will stop the madness. Each of them arriving at a
different conclusion or none at all solely depended upon how far the use of our
perceptions will allow us to go. Unfortunately both Oedipa and the reader (myself
included) are overwhelmed by the myriad of inconsistencies and masked innuendo
saturating this book from cover to cover. Unable to sufficiently distinguish between
what is real and relevant and what is unreal and irrelevant, both are left feeling
disconcerted and paranoid; fearful that nothing they ve ever perceived to be true, is...
Paranoia is the common bond that now unites Oedipa and the reader; but it isn t
paranoia as described in the Webster s dictionary, instead it is an aberration of their
individual views which have been shifted and enhanced forcing them to see the world
beyond that of their front porch; where before
What Is The Social Responsibility Of Architect
Introduction
In the process of the good spatial generation, architects are representatives of
institutional knowledge and the captain of the ship . They have power and control
over designing and production of space either directly by taking part in this process
via their personal practices or indirectly affecting it through their professional
organizations they work for. This is where the role of professional ethics in
architecture comes to play and they should be limiting and leading this power through
describing architect s social responsibilities and also should be preventing unethical
attitudes in all kinds of spatial practices by using this power and knowledge. ( What
is the Social Responsibility of Architects? , 2010)
However the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The architect, who works for the client, portrays and tries to work around the views
of that client. Architecture should ideally serve the people, but because of the clients
control, this is hard. Therefore architects have to choose between whether to serve
the client or the people. ( What is the Social Responsibility of Architects? , 2010)
Most believe that because the client is the one paying them, their building will be
built their way and the architect is there to serve them. This is how the building,
which possibly had enormous potential becomes THEIR building meant to serve no
one, but them. Eventually these projects end up as failures. How can a project not
designed keeping the users in mind serve the users?
Others, like the TAR (The Architects Resistance, formed by students from
Columbia, MIT, and Yale in 1968) believe the architect should be building for the
people even though this is usually different than the client. ( What is the Social
Responsibility of Architects? , 2010) Easy to preach and hard to practice. Who said
life is fair?
So what all does an architect need to know (in no specific order)?
What the client thinks he wants.

Nero s Rulership
The cruel acts carried out by Nero in his rulership can be directly linked back to his
administrators, how they affected his morals and values to become the cruel leader
that he was. It is human nature that the values, morals, and attitudes shown later in
one s life are a result of the environment an individual grows up in. Nerowas
surrounded by Roman aristocrats, including his mother, Agrippina the Younger, his
administrators and tutors, Burrus and Seneca; and his second wife, Poppaea.
Agrippina, Burrus, and Seneca heavily influenced the beginning of Nero s rule, as a
young teenager. His first years were one of prosperity, he cancelled unpopular taxes,
threw big public feasts, assiduously courted the Senate, and above all proclaimed an...

Nero would be led into carrying out the same act as his mother, killing her for full
power, nevertheless also revealing his own emerging corrupt behaviours. This
matricide was taken in great shock, in the annals of Tacitus, whose work is
representative of high class roman society around the time of 56 CE to 120 CE,
Tacitus writes as seen in appendix 2, on the reasoning behind the act. This change
in attitude from Nero can be linked to his second wife and mistress Poppaea.
Poppaea was another woman who was ambitious in gaining power. She is thought
to have had a great impact through seduction on convincing Nero to kill his
Mother but also Octavia, Seneca, who was one positive influence on Nero, and to
also use the Christians as a scapegoat to the great fire of Rome. To quote Tacitus
Poppaea..., were intimate counsellors of the emperor s brutalities (Tacitus, 69CE).
However, she too lost control to Nero who had a temper and became more and
more erratic over the years. It is written that Poppaea died by a kick in the stomach
by Nero in an argument, losing his wife and unborn child (Lewis, 2017), this act of
killing his not only wife but a future child is further evidence into the growing
corruptness of

Act Of Kindness Essay

  • 1. Act Of Kindness Essay Crafting an essay on the theme of "Act of Kindness" is, at its core, a nuanced and challenging endeavor. The difficulty lies not in the scarcity of material or the absence of personal experiences that exemplify kindness, but rather in the delicate balance one must strike between heartfelt anecdotes and profound reflections. The task demands an adept weaving of narrative elements with introspective analysis, creating a seamless tapestry that not only recounts instances of benevolence but also delves into the deeper significance of such acts. The challenge intensifies as the writer must transcend the clichГ©d narratives that often accompany discussions on kindness. Striking a chord with the reader requires the injection of authenticity and sincerity, steering clear of overly sentimental or didactic tones. Navigating this fine line between emotive storytelling and insightful commentary necessitates a keen understanding of the audience's expectations and an ability to evoke genuine empathy. Furthermore, the writer must grapple with the vastness of the topic itself. Acts of kindness manifest in myriad forms, from small, everyday gestures to grand, life-altering events. The selection and presentation of these instances require a judicious eye for detail and a skillful hand in constructing a coherent narrative arc. The essay should not read like a mere catalog of good deeds but rather as a thoughtful exploration of the multifaceted nature of kindness. In addition to the literary challenges, the writer must confront the inherent subjectivity of kindness. What may be perceived as a profound act of benevolence by one person might be regarded differently by another. Navigating this relativism requires a nuanced approach, acknowledging diverse perspectives while maintaining the essay's thematic unity. Macdonald Sharp, 2003 states that it is a strong influencer in the buying decision consideration process, as most of the consumers prefer buying brands they are aware and would like to be confident when making the purchase decision. The cost of acquiring customers is a significant expense for most businesses so higher brand awareness will help draw potential customers with little or no costs. Retaining customers is an even harder process than the former so strong brand loyalty among the customers will help sustain the business on a long term basis. Popular brands often use tools like newsletters, promotions, and satisfaction surveys to stay in touch with their existing to pool of customers in order to maintain brand awareness among consumers. Brands should also focus on research related to aided and unaided brand recall as it can help bring down marketing costs significantly while increasing the management s understanding of the business (Holden, 1993). Aided recall looks at what thoughts/feelings the customer associates with the brand while unaided recall looks at what brands of a specific product category the customer can think of without any prompts. The former helps marketing professionals to focus on building brand awareness to attract new customers whereas the latter focuses on improving the brand image among existing customers. Simply put, the more people are aware of the brand

In the story (The Gift of the Magi) there is three times when Biblical imagery is used. If a queen had lived in the rooms near theirs, Della would have washed and dried her hair where the queen could see it. Della knew her hair was more beautiful than any queen s jewels and gifts. (Henry 2). This is a line from the story is saying that the Queen Sheba would be jealous of Della s hair. Queen Sheba is a queen from the Bible. if I king had lived in the same house with all his riches, Jim would have looked at his watch every time they met. We have many different groups within Bravo Company, and as a manager you will need to be up to speed quickly on some of the common communication barriers within the company. The common barriers, such as Disruptive team members, language, listening, and group think, are some of the ones that we have seen in the past. Remember that English might not be all the team member s first language. * Listening Barrier Another type of communication barrier is the listening barrier. Listening is harder than you think. You have to become an active listener. You need to pay attention to what a team member is saying. If you do not pay attention in meetings, then you may look like you do not care about what others have to say. If you are trying to focus on when you can jump into the conversation, it may make you seem unable to relate to others around you. Once George came in to see me, and I was working on the financials. I knew he had come in, and I thought I was listening, but I need to get the reports done. He spoke to me, I must have answered him, but when I finished. I thought back to why George had come in, and I could not remember. So, I had to go and ask George what he had asked before which was a little embarrassing. So, I had to figure out how not to have this happen again. * A Technique that I have found helpful, as I am guilty of not actively listening, is to make sure I focus on what people are saying. It is difficult to do, as you may want to rehearse what you want to say. If you use active listening, you should be able to see when there is a pause and be able to jump into the conversation. The searches are typically intended to search locations seize evidence in relation to probable cause that the suspects are engaged in criminal activity, are about to engage in criminal activity or had engaged in criminal activity. Duality In Dr Jekyll And Hyde During the Victorian Era, many people appeared as great contributing members of society and were praised, but were later looked down upon for their hidden secrets or actions committed. This is referred as duality, which also means having a double life. Duality is expressed in Robert Louis Stevenson s book, The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, Which takes place during the Victorian Era. Duality was very common during the Victorian era. His true desires include murders and being a cold hearted person, which he can only do while being Mr Hyde. The author uses Dr Jekyll as an example to show that for a society to strive and be successful they must show conformity and value the morals and rules that are necessary to live in their society. Conformity was very important during the victorian era. Conformity is to basically fit in and be normal. Dr Jekyll shows conformity by being a respectable doctor and being known throughout the community as being a normal person. Dr Jekyll throws this away when he becomes Mr Hyde because he does not conform with the rules of the Victorian era. He also does not choose to get help for his addiction. One can assume that he does not want to get the help for his addiction because he feels like he can manage his addiction while keeping his morals and virtues without having them disturbed. • 15. Minimum Wage and Its Implications Minimum wage affects everyone. The current minimum wage is at $7.25 and President Obama announced that he wished to see a change in the minimum wage, he wants to raise the hourly wage to $10.10. A rise in the income of those who are employed will also raise the cost of hiring unskilled labor and can potentially reduce the number of people hired by businesses. Also, if minimum wageis raised then the price of the products that the companies are making might increase which will continue the cycle of minimum wage not being enough to survive on. The increase of minimum wage will result in negative effects that will have a significant impact on national economy. The federal minimum wage originated in the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) signed by President Franklin Roosevelt on June 25, 1938. The FLSA originally only covered about 38 percent of the labor force, mostly in the transportation, manufacturing, and mining industries. As the years went on the FLSA began covering more and more people. Over the years, Congress significantly expanded the coverage and increased the wage rate. Over the course of 76 years the federal minimum wage has raised 22 times (Wilson). The first minimum wage stood at 25 cents an hour (Sherk). The last minimum wage increase occurred in 2007, when Congress raised the wage slowly from $5.15 an hour to $7.25 an hour in July 2009 (Sherk). Congress typically raises the minimum wage during times of healthy economic growth and low unemployment. Who earns the

Sicinius speech starts off with soft consonants: For that hhhhe hhhhas,/ As much as in hhhhim lies (3.3, 90 91). This is to give the effect of softening the tone of his speech; Sicinius wants to be composed about what he is going to say. However, he immediately after embodies plosive sounds: To ppppluck away their ppppower (3.3, 93). These explosive sounds portray the passion and anger in what he feels Coriolanus is trying to do by stripping the people of their power. The wordplay in this passage by Sicinius is on the word pluck ; Sicinius uses this word to display the (MED) taking away of power that does not belong to him, and plucking the people until there is nothing left of them as Coriolanus does not respect the Plebeians. The company enjoyed strong growth for much of the 2000s, only to see that growth deteriorate when its core technology, GPS, was installed in smartphones. Prior to that point, Garmin sold its global positioning systems as separate units, sometimes for hundreds of dollars. The choice of capital structure will vary from one company to another and from one industry to another, so this figure has to be understood in context. For Garmin, the current debt to equity ratio is 0.36, which means that the company has a fairly low level of leverage. This ratio is indicative of a generally conservative financial approach by Garmin s management, as five years ago the debt to equity ratio was 0.31. Garmin has never been highly leveraged. While this means that the company s cost of capital is perhaps a bit higher than it needs to be, it also means that Garmin was well insulated against a strong downturn in the company s fortunes as remains so today. With respect to profitability, Garmin s old GPS units were highly profitable items, so it is interest to see what has happened to the firm s profitability. The gross margin in 2012 was 53%, whereas in 2008 it was 44.4%. Thus, the company has actually seen its gross margin increase after the demise of the GPS market, and it has also been able to continue to enjoy healthy margins, by taking a conservative attitude towards costs. The current net margin is a healthy 20%, compared with 20.9%, so there has been little change to the bottom line. This means that again the stories of Garmin s demise were greatly exaggerated. Another set of metrics is the investment return metrics. With these, Garmin has a return on equity of 16.65%, and a five year average ROE of

Having the same statement reiterated three times makes one more confident that it s not only important, but that it s a fact in this context! In Lucille Clifton s white lady, a tone of desperation is conveyed through repetition of words, phrases, and sentence structures. Moreover, repetition highlights that desperation is unique not only to the loved ones of the cocaineaddicts, but to White Lady as well. As an aside before we begin, I will note that tone is a complex element within poetry. Hence, it is often conveyed through a mish mash of literature devices, such as repetition, line breaks, diction, etc. Therefore, I will not claim that this discussion is a comprehensive one that describes all the myriad ways tone has been emphasized in the poem; I will merely discuss one contributing factor to tone. On the surface, repetition is used for conveying White Lady s greediness. Repetition first appears in the first to third lines of the poem, where the word wants is at the start of each. If Clifton wanted to illustrate how desperately White Lady wished to take away people s loved ones, why didn t she utilize any other synonyms? For example, she could ve used wants in the first line, desires in the second, and pines for in

  • 22. Women In Medieval Time Period The medieval britain time period was the start of the noticeability for women. Women were beginning to rise in control in this time period. They were gaining more respect and honor than previous time periods, whereas women were only known to keep the house and children. However, women were also known for their seductiveness in this time period. They also were more loved for their virtues rather than their prettiness. Women in the medieval time period were being put in more higher places and were being on more power. In the medieval time period women were increasingly becoming more noticed as well as being put in high places. Before the twelfth century there was no place for women to reign as queens. Only after the death of a king did a queen hold the royal chair for but a brief time until either a husband was suitable for the royal crown or a son who was not old enough yet reached the appropriate age to rule in government with his mother. However, there were three daughters of kings Alfonso VI of Castile, Baldwin II of Jerusalem, and Henry I of England forced the problem of female succession after failure of male heirs to be acknowledged. This creates a molecule that is slightly polar. It is a relatively stable molecule with a relatively high boiling point. All three Ketones on the table have a boiling point close to water or substantially higher. The carbonatomin the carbonyl group is not electronegative enough to give a partial charge large enough for hydrogen bonding to the hydrogen atoms in Pentanone. Butanoic Acid, however, has a much higher boiling point than all three ketones. Butanoic acid does not have the highest molecular mass. This phenomenon can be attributed to hydrogen bonding. • 24. Othello s Influence On The World Of Opera Verdi s Othello has had a profound influence on the world of opera, and considered by many critics to be his best work. Othello has been performed throughout the world, debuting in over 25 countries within the first fifty years of its creation (Stanford). It has been performed all over the globe by world renowned operettists, in theatres such as the Lincoln Center in New York, the Sydney OperaHouse in Sydney, and the Bolshoi in Russia. Othellois about a general who is led to believe his wife is cheating on him, when in reality she is not, and deceived by Iago, a man he trusted. Othello has two love duets between the same characters, but with very different moods and relationships, which are portrayed through the dialogue, the stage actions, and most importantly the musical strategies employed. The opera Othello was written by Verdi, one of the most prominent opera writers in the late 1800 s. He was born in 1813 in northern Italy, however, most of his work took place in Milan, Italy. This is where, on February 5th of 1887, Othello was first performed, at the Teatro alla Scala (Stanford). Verdi s opera Othello is based off of Shakespeare s play Othello, which was written in 1622. People with this disorder tend to be very picky, or choosey, when it come to who their friends and associates are. Since they consider themselves to be special, they think that only those who are also special are deserving of their time. A narcissistic personality may also surround themselves with dependent personalities, because those with dependent personalities will give them the constant praise and adulation that they require. Again we turn to Brother John for an example, He is an excellent teacher and has inspired many students. He has always had a group of students, usually dependent personalities... (Rosetti, 1999). These students would often be called upon to defend Brother John when his behavior was questioned by supervisors. Brother John using his students in this way touches upon another trait common to those with narcissistic personality disorder. People with this disorder are often manipulative, and use other to achieve their own ends. According to Ronald Comer, they may do this partly out of envy (2010, p. 234). I think that it is more likely that this is just a branch of another common character trait amongst those with narcissistic personalities, that being a lack of empathy. People with this disorder are seldom interested in the feelings of others, and so they probably never take those feelings into consideration when they are manipulating

The Renaissance And The Scientific Revolution the Renaissance, also known as the rebirth, was a cultural movement that started an artistic transformation and started the scientific revolution. This time period also links the transition from the end of the Middle Ages to the beginning of the Modern Age. During the Renaissance artists changed the way they painted and sculpted, they learned how to paint in all three dimensions, which brought life and realism to their works. A real life application for acid base titration is that is use in medicine and most food

Journey of Self Discovery in Thomas Pynchons The Crying of Lot 49 Thomas Pynchons The Crying of Lot 49 challenges the readers perception of the world by enfolding his readers, through a variety of means, within the intricate workings of his narrative. It centers around would be heroine Oedipa Maas whose life is turned upside down when she discovers that she has been made executor of the estate of old flame and entrepreneur Pierce Inverarity. When she is imposed upon to travel to the fictional city of San Narcisco, where Inverarity is said to have numerous real estate holdings, in order to carry out her task, Oedipa stumbles upon a muted post horn; the first of many clues leading her deep into the impenetrable conspiracy ... Like Pynchons reader s, Oedipa is forced to either work toward interpreting the trail of seemingly indecipherable clues being tossed in her wake or forgo it all and walk away in bewilderment. Like the reader by deciding to go on, however aimlessly, she is forcibly drawn out of the complacency of her own existence; into a chaotic system of intrigue that reaches far beyond her normal scope of understanding. In the same turn, like Oedipa the reader s role is also based on interpreting numerous symbols and metaphorical clues as a means of stumbling upon a legible conclusion that will stop the madness. Each of them arriving at a different conclusion or none at all solely depended upon how far the use of our perceptions will allow us to go. Unfortunately both Oedipa and the reader (myself included) are overwhelmed by the myriad of inconsistencies and masked innuendo saturating this book from cover to cover. Unable to sufficiently distinguish between what is real and relevant and what is unreal and irrelevant, both are left feeling disconcerted and paranoid; fearful that nothing they ve ever perceived to be true, is... Paranoia is the common bond that now unites Oedipa and the reader; but it isn t paranoia as described in the Webster s dictionary, instead it is an aberration of their individual views which have been shifted and enhanced forcing them to see the world beyond that of their front porch; where before

What Is The Social Responsibility Of Architect Introduction In the process of the good spatial generation, architects are representatives of institutional knowledge and the captain of the ship . They have power and control over designing and production of space either directly by taking part in this process via their personal practices or indirectly affecting it through their professional organizations they work for. This is where the role of professional ethics in architecture comes to play and they should be limiting and leading this power through describing architect s social responsibilities and also should be preventing unethical attitudes in all kinds of spatial practices by using this power and knowledge. The architect, who works for the client, portrays and tries to work around the views of that client. Architecture should ideally serve the people, but because of the clients control, this is hard. Therefore architects have to choose between whether to serve the client or the people. ( What is the Social Responsibility of Architects? , 2010) Most believe that because the client is the one paying them, their building will be built their way and the architect is there to serve them. This is how the building, which possibly had enormous potential becomes THEIR building meant to serve no one, but them. Eventually these projects end up as failures. How can a project not designed keeping the users in mind serve the users? Others, like the TAR (The Architects Resistance, formed by students from Columbia, MIT, and Yale in 1968) believe the architect should be building for the people even though this is usually different than the client. ( What is the Social Responsibility of Architects? , 2010) Easy to preach and hard to practice. Who said life is fair? So what all does an architect need to know (in no specific order)? What the client thinks he wants. What the client

Nero s Rulership The cruel acts carried out by Nero in his rulership can be directly linked back to his administrators, how they affected his morals and values to become the cruel leader that he was. It is human nature that the values, morals, and attitudes shown later in one s life are a result of the environment an individual grows up in. Nerowas surrounded by Roman aristocrats, including his mother, Agrippina the Younger, his administrators and tutors, Burrus and Seneca; and his second wife, Poppaea. Agrippina, Burrus, and Seneca heavily influenced the beginning of Nero s rule, as a young teenager. Nero would be led into carrying out the same act as his mother, killing her for full power, nevertheless also revealing his own emerging corrupt behaviours. This matricide was taken in great shock, in the annals of Tacitus, whose work is representative of high class roman society around the time of 56 CE to 120 CE, Tacitus writes as seen in appendix 2, on the reasoning behind the act. This change in attitude from Nero can be linked to his second wife and mistress Poppaea. Poppaea was another woman who was ambitious in gaining power. She is thought to have had a great impact through seduction on convincing Nero to kill his Mother but also Octavia, Seneca, who was one positive influence on Nero, and to also use the Christians as a scapegoat to the great fire of Rome. To quote Tacitus Poppaea..., were intimate counsellors of the emperor s brutalities (Tacitus, 69CE). However, she too lost control to Nero who had a temper and became more and more erratic over the years. It is written that Poppaea died by a kick in the stomach by Nero in an argument, losing his wife and unborn child (Lewis, 2017), this act of killing his not only wife but a future child is further evidence into the growing corruptness of
