The Founding of Our Nations Government Essay
The Founding of Our Nations Government
The Articles of Confederation were extremely important in the founding of our government today.
The Articles gave us a sort of good base to start from, and was ground breaking in the shaping of
our new nation.
The Articles of Confederation were written by a Second Continental Congressional committee
during the early part of the American Revolution in 1777. A report of the proposed articles was
presented to the committee by John Dickson (committee head) just eight days after the signing of
the Declaration Of Independence.
The fear of the 13 colonies was to have a powerful central government, as they did in Great Britain.
The Articles were changed drastically by the Continental Congress before ... Show more content on

On February 21, 1787, the Continental Congress resolved that: #8230; it is expedient that that on
the second Monday in May next, a convention of delegates who shall have been appointed by the
several states be held at Philadelphia for the sole purpose of revising the articles of Confederation
#8230;The original states except Rhode Island, collectively appointed 70 individuals to the
Constitutional Convention, but a number did not accept or could not attend. Those who did not
attend included Thomas Jefferson, Richard Henry Lee, Patrick Henry, John Adams, Samuel Adams,
and John Hancock. In all 55 delegates attended the Constitutional Convention sessions, but only 39
actually signed the Constitution. The delegates ranged in age from Jonathon Dayton, aged 26, and
to Benjamin Franklin at 81 years of age, who was very sick at the time.
The plan of the delegates was to remedy the defects in the Articles of Confederation, but Virginia
delegates had a new idea in mid and boldly proposed the Virginia Plan, which introduced a whole
new national government instead of the confederation. The New Jersey Plan was also presented as
an alternative, but it was based mainly on autonomous states being represented by a single
chamber. When bicameral legislation was approved it effectively made the decision for the
Virginia Plan, and allowed for the New

Comparison Of Oedipus And Frogs
To begin with, if Oedipus and Frogs are to be taken into consideration and the aspects of the plot
dissected using the guidelines provided in Poetics, then based on Aristotle s definition of plot as
organization of events, it can be stated that the structure of plot is the same for the two stories of
opposing genres, for both have a beginning, a middle and an end one following after the other
resulting in a well constructed plot not beginning or ending at any arbitrary point (Aristotle 10 13
14). However, while the character experiences a fall from good fortune to bad fortune in most
tragedies, in most comedies the character experiences a fall from bad fortune to good fortune
(Aristotle 21 22). Thus, in regards to Oedipusit can be noted that the story follows the general plot
structure with Oedipus first facing good fortune briefly in the beginning of the play, as alluded to
by the Elder who states that Oedipus came to Thebes, saved us from the Sphinx,/ And without any
help, derived us from despair/... Now, Oedipus, our master and greatest power (Sophocleslines 35

Covenants And The Roles Of Profit, Priest, And King
Covenants and the Roles of Profit, Priest, and King in Organizational Management
There are 6 major covenants in the Bible, Adam and Eve, pre flood Noah, post flood Noah,
Abrahamic, Moses, and Jesus, with multiple themes of salvation, Messiah, and grace. Each are
promises between God and His people and have four common elements; a benefactor; God, a
beneficiary; man, terms and conditions, and a token or symbol.
Significance and Meaning of a Covenant
To provide a better appreciation of the Bible, a definition of covenant is necessary. A covenant is
a serious life or death affair. It is a relationship; a sacred agreement between God and all humanity.
It is how God chooses to communicate to us, to redeem us, and to guarantee us eternal life in Jesus.
When God created man, he appeared in His image. Man was physically complete; yet spiritually
incomplete. God s plan for salvation was predetermined and calls all people to receive the Holy
Spirit to grow and become spiritually complete (Fountain, 2014) . Expand a bit!!
Messiah Promised: The Old TestamentGenesis 9:13, I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it
will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. In Old Testament times God initiated and
offered an agreement or covenant between Him and one nation, Israel. Entrance into this covenant
was by physical, natural birth (Gen. 17:9 10). These biblical covenants were in effect during the
time before Jesus death, burial, and resurrection. They were

In The Belly Case Study
Essay Two: In The Belly As human beings, we are taught at an early age to always do the right
thing morally and ethically, which follows us into adulthood. This is what Tom T. a radiology
technician strives to uphold by happily explaining procedural images to his patients. Until he is
faced with a situation, where a young lady suffering from abdominal pain, he noticed evidence
of metallic material from her x rays. The patient then becomes inquisitive about why a resident
on duty instructed Tom to take more x rays. Then two days later the patients has been released
stating to Tom that Dr. K didn t see nothing on the x rays, and this Tom knows this is a lie. Tom s
feels as if he lost his ability to do the right thing and doesn t know what to do, when he says
goodbye to the patient as she exits the building unaware. Throughout this essay the ethical
dilemmas, rights of the patient vs, duties of heath care providers, and a suggested decision model
for Tom will all be addressed. 1)There are several ethical principles that would apply to the
individuals in this situation. First, for example the veracity was withheld from Tom T, Dr. K

Comparing Rappaccini s Daughter And The Birthmark
The male gaze is a philosophical concept that implies that men use the eyes to communicate with
females in a manner that is both critical, or can be described as sensual in nature. This is the case
in Nathaniel Hawthorne s short stories, Rappaccini s Daughter and The birthmark. In The
Birthmark Aylmer s gazeof the birthmark is not only an obsession, but an erotic feature that leads
him to commit unethical practices to get rid of his wife s imperfection. Rappaccini s Daughter
makes Beatrice feel guilty for her sexual allure. In addition, both male characters feel the need to
dominate and control the women in their lives for feared of being overpowered by their sexuality.
The male characters regard the femalecharacter as a symbol of sin for simply being women. Both
characters in Hawthorne s Rappaccini s daughter and The Birthmark the male gaze is used to

Gender Stereotypes In Video Games
Introduction
As per the findings of the general social survey, administered by Statistics Canada (2010), video
game usage has more than doubled in the last 20 years. Most researchers seem to agree that the
stereotypical video game player is a young, white, heterosexual male (e.g. Shaw, 2012; Williams,
Consalvo, Caplan, Yee, 2009). In considering the topic of genderand gaming, one of the first
questions to consider is whether or not this stereotypical view of video game players is accurate. The
Entertainment Software Association (ESA) publishes a report containing statistics on video game
player demographics each year. In comparing these reports over time, an interesting trend is noted;
though males account for the majority of video game ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Additionally, scantily clad clothing was added as a coding category. Scantily clad was defined as
insufficient clothing (e.g., neckline that exposes dГ©colletage or bikinis). Each of the
characteristics identified by Burgess et al. (2007) portrayal in a sexy way, exaggerated bust,
vulgar clothing, tight clothing to accentuate body parts, and scantily clad clothing were rated as a
count; the number of characters displaying the aforementioned categories was recorded. The
definition of physical objectification for men was the same as for women; however, exaggerated
bust was excluded from the coding. Additionally, since not all video games include human
characters, each game s cover was rated for the absence/presence of human characters, as well as
the number of human characters present. Also, each human character s apparent sex was recorded.

Literature Review Of M M Theorem
Literature review
The collaboration between the university professors and Nobel Prize winners, Franco Modigliani
and Merton Miller in 1958 have resulted the first and one of the most important theories in the
field of capital structure. Franco Modigliani and Merton Miller (MM) have developed a theory that
helps us to understand how taxes and financial distress affect a company s capital structure
decision. There were different unclear issues that M M theorem used their basis in building their
assumption. For instance, would a change in financing mix increase the value of a company. There
were many other issues taken into consideration which result the two main assumptions as well as
there were many other assumptions added in the coming years after the M M propositions, which

Hence, before M M theorem there were no generally an accepted theory (Luigi Sorin, 2011, p.

flows. Once the company decides to finance its assets, by selecting a certain proportion of debt and
equity, all it does is to split the cash flows between investors. Based on the assumption taken into
consideration by Modigliani and Miller that the investors and firm have equal access to financial
markets, which allows them for homemade leverage. The authors also pointed out that the investor
can create any leverage they wanted but not offered or the investor can get rid of any leverage that
the firm took on but was not wanted. This theory was proposed under perfect capital market
conditions (without taxes, transaction costs and information asymmetry) value of any firm is
independent of its financing decisions (Modigliani and Miller 1958). In a simplified context, the
value of the firm will not be affected by the leverage of the

The Importance Of Cultural Imperialism
The Kiowa are a Native American people who have been greatly impacted by cultural imperialism.
They were forced to adapt to western culture, and in this many of the Kiowa people were converted
to Christianity. Christianity is said to be a very important aspect of many Native American cultures
still today, but the way in which Christianity is portrayed and practiced in such societies, including
that of the Kiowa, stays true to both the religion itself and their Native practices. The Kiowa are
said to have kiowanized Christianity. The Kiowa version of Christianity is said to differ from the
white man s way. This means that they believe in God, integrate their culture and lifestyles into
Christianity, and they also relay the importance of their religion in a different manner. They use
their native language in their hymns, and these hymns are comprised primarily of those elements
that pertain directly to Kiowa culture. In the text Lassiter states, Kiowa hymns give life to a unique
Kiowa experience, preserve the language, and affirm and ongoing (and continually unfolding)
Kiowa spirituality. This reveals the effectiveness and importance of the integration of Christianity
and native Kiowa practices. Language has been a central focus of anthropological interest for many
reasons. List three reasons and discuss why they are important. Think about language in broad or
general anthropological sense when addressing this question. What are the connections among play,

Social And Social Influence On Behavior Essay
Social influence Social psychologists try to understand human behavior in terms of the
influence others have in producing it (Aronson, Wilson Akert, 1994). The following passage
explains specifically how social groups can influence behavior. In particular, the discussion will
Center on the role groups play in the formation of social norms and social roles. With reference
to experiments, the passage will show the terms and degree to which people are likely to
conform under group pressure to those norms and roles. Muzafer Sherif (1935) conducted an
experiment which showed the effects a group can have on the behavior of an individual.
Participants were asked individually to identify how far a white dot moved on a black screen in
a dark room. They were then asked to do the same task but in a group with other participants who
had also completed the task independently. It was found that answers changed considerably
towards a norm which they all shared. Just the presence of the group influenced the participant s
opinions. Jackobs and Campbell (1961), in a similar experiment, showed how group norms can
pass through generations. They replicated the study several times replacing one old participant
with a new one each time. They found that the norm found in the initial study was still prevalent
over time even when the original group no longer was present. The original group established a
norm which then became a social norm as it pervaded subsequent groups. However, it can be

The IT Background of the Issue
Students can sign up for courses and choose a format of learning that suits them best; video,
interactive tutorials, hyperlinked textbooks or face to face group sessions. (US NEWS) Quizzes are
given occasionally to ensure that students are learning the material. There are four different types
of E Learning; Knowledge databases (step by step instructions, few explanations and questions),
Online Support (Chat rooms, online bulletin boards, email or live messaging), Asynchronous
training (Self paced learning based on CD s, Networks, internet or the intranet) and Synchronous
training (Internet using Real Time communicate directly with the instructor) (Howstuffworks).
Television was one of the first medias that E Learning was available by but since it was too
expensive and the information was too dry, people started to lose interest (Lyon). Videotapes then
evolved and were used in school classrooms (Lyon). When the Internet was invented, E Learning
used it to allow students to work with tutors from various places around the world. Students can
work at their own pace thus giving them time to do other activities. Even though there is an issue
with bandwidth, there are other optional types of media on the Internet, which uses less bandwidth
than others.
The Global market for corporate E Learning is expected to grow 27% annually (McGee) and it is

The scene itself stands for a real life possibility beyond the movie. Norman Amaker of the NAACP
detailed the increasing tension between the African Americans and the government in the 1950s,
arguing how it was the law that primarily separated Blacks from their rights. He argued that it is
not the white population to blame, but rather the government, since the government is vindicating
the arguments by essentially making racism legal. The resulting trouble was that the
predominantly white government and the black protesters were not working together to achieve
equality. The separations were too large. Eventually though, in the years succeeding Amaker s
published work, legal bounds were in fact made. The government finally turned some of the racial
equality appeals in to law. With the government and white Americans more effectively working
together, great progress was made in terms of racial equality. Through the actions of the NAACP,
and other protest groups like it, leaders on each side (government and citizens seeking change)
were able to communicate and work together. In addition to the household names, leaders like Roy
Wilkins and Tyson Moore were able to help communicate the issue and bring change. This synergy
is mimicked in the climax of Blazing Saddles. Most Western films involve the big shot cowboy
coming to the rescue, saving the day, and getting the girl.

The play Julius Caesar performed in the theatre in the round, though captivating left the play
confusing in some aspects. In this performance of Julius Caesar the time period was a bit
confusion to pick out. Of course the original is supposed to be depicted in roman times of when
there was a republic present as the government, but in many renditions of the play the director
has changed the setting. The director of this play, Sara Becker, did not make it easy to pick out
the intricate and general details of the performance. The theatre at which this play was performed

If you make bad choices of course the outcome will be what you make of it, but if you make
good decisions and are responsible then you can have a good future. I do not think your future is
set no matter what you choose to do, I believe our future is based upon what we choose. Although
it is very difficult to pick a protagonist and antagonist in this play of Julius Caesar, the protagonist
seems to be Brutus and the two antagonists are Julius Caesar and Mark Antony. Brutus is trying to
preserve the republic of Rome and does everything he does for what he thinks is the good of
Rome. His actions of helping kill Caesar, in his mind, are all good and show the theme of the
struggle of power, but also in a way the free will Brutus had to use to choose to kill Caesar. Both
Julius Caesar and Mark Antony are shown trying to become tyrants in the eyes of Brutus and
Cassius. Every action that is portrayed shows that they all are struggling for who will be in
power and if it is their fate or free will that will make this possible. The primary conflict between
the protagonist and antagonist in this play was definitely who would be in power over Rome.
Even though a conflict in the mind of Brutus can be seen as well if he really made the right
choice. The best actor, even though it was a hard choice between Brutus and Mark Antony, in this
play was Alan Brinks. His rendition of Mark Antony was captivating. He

A Madman s Short Story Quod By Lu Xun
In 1915, the New Culture Movement was initiated, being accompanied by the ideas mainly aimed at
criticising the Confucian traditional values in China, and also approaching a more modern and
western mindset. In 1919, a mass protest of over 6000 students was conducted to rebel against the
signing of the Versailles Treaty, which would hand over Chinese territorial rights from the Germans
to the Japanese and this movement later became known as the May Fourth Movement. One of the
significant leaders of this movement who made great contribution, was Lu Xun. As it was

The madman is the main character of the short story. However, a question should be raised
before any analysis is initiated; Is the madman really mad? In the very beginning of the story,
the writer proclaims that he had found out that the madman had suffered from a form of
persecution complex . I disagree with this claim because, like what the writer asserted, if what is
written on the diary is just the outcome of the illusion caused by persecution complex, the value
of the story would be somewhat meaningless. Furthermore, the madman has clear subjectivity
and consistency. Hence, the madman is not actually mad. The madman s diary reminded me of
a Korean folktale that my mother used to tell me, which is about a man with two eyes visiting a
land where everybody is one eyed. The two eyed man who always thought having two eyes is
normal, was mocked and called, abnormal for having two eyes. Eventually the two eyed man
ended up stabbing one of his own eyes and chose to be one of the one eyed men. From the
perspective in regard to this folktale, the madman is actually the one who became conscious of the
truth. However, he is not the only one in the story who is aware of the truth. As it is illustrated in
the text, there are two types of cannibals; those who believe cannibalism is acceptable because it is
their tradition that passed down through multiple generations, and those who realize that
cannibalism is wrong but would still maintain it. Their recognition itself that cannibalism is
inappropriate is same as that of the madman. However, unlike others who do not make an attempt to
break the convention, or tradition (cannibalism), the madman resolutely broke away from the
existing convention and expressed his dedication toward breaking the convention and tried to make
it happen. I personally think that the madman was rather a representation of the intellectual. In

Motivating Factors In 19th Century Europe
There was a population explosion because the needs of additional people could be met by a
quickly advancing society. In England, fewer people died because of general improving public
health conditions and things like a smallpox vaccine and pasteurization, and more people were
born due to earlier marriages and a lack of birth control. When more people are born than die, the
population increases. Additionally, smaller populations migrated into developed countries to find
work, increasing the population of the larger countries, like the migrants from Ireland due to a
potato famine coming to England for industrial work.
In your own words, why did 19th century Europe see a dramatic increase in migration and
immigration? What were some of the motivating factors?
Migration and immigration increased in 19th century Europe because there were more jobs
available in cities and towns that paid more than those in the country. Additionally, some migrants,
like the Irish, came to escape bad living conditions, in that case to get away from a potato famine.
New cities and changing ideas offered a safe haven for those prosecuted for their religious beliefs or
political stance in other countries, prompting migration into major metropolitan areas.
Why did the number of towns increase during the industrial revolution? What social problems were
created due to this increase?
The number of towns increased as people migrated to them to find jobs as industrial workers, as the
highest populations

Thirteen years later, in 1896, a new case appeared that would set a precedent for racial
discrimination for years to come, and ultimately, drive a nigh irremovable wedge between the
blacks and the whites in the south. The case in question arose when a seven eigths caucasian man,
Homer Adolph Plessy, broke a Lousiana law barring black people from sitting in certain train cars.
Upon refusing to move, Plessy was arrested and brought to court where the case made its way up
through district and appellate courts and all the way to the Supreme Court. The question, posed by
this case was: is the Louisiana law mandating racial segregation on trains unconstitutional under the
fourteenth amendment? The court decided, in a seven to one decision written by Justice Brown,
that the different train cars for blacks and whites weren t a violation of the Fourteenth Amendment.
In his conclusion, Justice Brown wrote that the Fourteenth Amendment was intended to provide
complete equality for all races before the law. However, he said, it is not intended to eradicate
racial distinctions, and enforce social equality, nor is it an attempt to force a collusion of races.
This conclusion gave rise to the infamous Separate but Equal Doctrine, a precedent that is a direct
cause of Brown vs Board of Education. Though it was not stated in Brown s conclusion, this
doctrine insinuated that so

1970s Music Did you know that the inspiration behind Led Zeppelin s name came from something
their drummer had always said going down like a lead zeppelin and of course they changed the
spelling of lead to led so Americans wouldn t pronounce it leed (Stewart 82). There are many things
known about the seventies from Nixon s presidency, the Watergate scandalto all the popular music
genres and fashion choices and how they all had some effect on the average life of the common
people. The Watergate scandal definitely brought around a change, the change in the view of
morality among the American people, but the music brought an even larger change among
everyone. Because, it s a well known events about the 70s most people bring up the Watergate
scandal. On June 17, 1972 the Watergate scandal begins when four men are caught breaking into
the DNC headquarters in the Watergate office building (America s Best History). As of January 30,

Some of the many influences on the younger generation included changes in traditional markers of
adulthood, such as family and career (Kutulas). The most change came to the norms the norms
collided most with sexual and romantic options, because of this sex within the confines of marriage
had lost its cultural weight and moral authority (Kutulas). Music showed the new generation that
there was more than just what was traditionally expected from them, that they were their own
person and could define the norms for themselves and not depend on what other people say or think
about them. Middle class boomers were both the instigators and the victims of unprecedented
sexual change; they were the members of the class that traditionally defined standards but were

National Reading Panel Summary
The National Reading Panel (NRP) and the International Reading Association (IRA) are two
different associations that provide research findings on the best practices for teaching and learning
literacy. Reading and understanding the findings of both associations is important for educators
and parents to boost the literacy rates of our children. Below I will summarize the readingstandards
that our outlined by both and provide my thoughts and insights.
The NRP concludes that children need to be taught certain instructional methods to excel in reading.
The methods include phonemic awareness, phonics skills, reading with fluency, and comprehension
strategies including vocabulary development. The panel concludes that phonemic awareness should
begin in preschool and continue through the elementary school years, phonics instruction should
begin in kindergarten through sixth grade and once children are reading, fluency and
comprehension skills need to be taught through various techniques throughout the elementary years
and beyond.
The panel goes on to explain detailed methods to teach the different standards. Beginning with
phonemic awareness, early in education, the findings conclude that children who have direct
instruction improved their reading skills more that children who did not receive this instruction.
The understanding that oral language is made up of connected phonemes gives children the
foundation to read and write. Once a child has phonemic understanding, the

The Era Of The Common Man
The Jacksonian period has been regarded as the era of the common man , this characterization only
holds true in regard to politics. Jackson s action in economic development was little different from
when this era began. His view towards reforms were threatening and unwanting.Jackson was
relentless in his strive for presidency. Jackson lost his first presidential run to John Quincy Adamsin
1824 despite having the popular and electoral votes. The Jacksonians (supporters of Jackson)
called this event the Corrupt Bargain due to Henry Clay support of Adams after he was out of
the race. Jackson won the following election in 1828, after a war of words were exchanged
between supporters of Jackson and Adams. The Jacksonians accused Adams of being wasteful
with money, while Adams supporters accused Jackson of being a murderer in the war of 1812
and called his wife a bigamist. These accusations got to Rachel and weeks later she passed.
Nonetheless, this was still a victory for the new Democratic Republicans against the National
Republicans. Politically, the age of Jackson was a triumph for the common man since politics
were more open. Before Jackson politics were only indulged in by aristocrats and elites; With
Jackson it was open to all white male citizens. It has also be noted that before Jackson came into
office that there was expansion in voting with Ohio and other new western states. These new
constitutions made older states conform to their laws due to the fear of losing

Hate Crime
Hate Crime
The simplest definition of what a hate crime is, is a crime committed against a victim due to his
or her perceived role in a social group. Social groups can be defined by many factors such as
sexual orientation, race, disability, religion, age, gender and many other factors. Within this essay I
aim to evaluate the causes of hate crime and also to assess the impact of crime on victims and the
strategies used for responding to hate crime. The types of hate crime I am going to be focusing on
are race, sexual orientation and gender.
What is hate crime?
Defining hate crime has proven to be a difficult task, shown by the multiple academic and
professional definitions that exist. Barbara Perry (2001) suggests that as is the case ... Show more

How will we know if these actions truly constitute a hate crime? What crimes are we going to
include in our definition? Jacobs and Potter (1998: 27) suggest that how much hate crime there is
and what the appropriate response should be depends upon how hate crime is conceptualised and
defined . So far I have outlined a number of academic definitions of hate crime and also the
implications of defining such a crime. I am now going to describe the three types of hate crime I
am focusing on which are race, sexual orientation and gender.
Macpherson (1999) suggests that a racist incident is any incident which is perceived to be racist
by the victim or any other person . The Crime and Disorder Act (1998) state that a racial group
refers to persons defined by reference to their race, colour, nationality, or ethnic or national
origins . The figures for race related hate crimes taking place are at the highest with a staggering
43,426 people involved in hate crime at the moment. Despite all the public awareness of hate
crimes since Stephen Lawrence s murder, racially motivated hate crime is still taking place and
does not seem to be decreasing. This brings me to question why figures are still rising despite law
changes and public awareness. Research shows that few criminals are being prosecuted for
committing a hate crime. Ministry of Justice (2008) in 2006 only 11,500 charges of racially
aggravated offending were prosecuted in England

Populist Party Dbq
The late nineteenth century was a power struggle between the democratic and the republicans
parties of the United States. The struggle between these two parties eventually led to the populist
party s emergence. As a result of how the populist party built trust and united certain people, this
was evident by the combined effort of individuals who have otherwise never united together before.
The party rose to fame with the advent of the them listening to the concern of the people. However,
the party saw its fame quickly dwindle during the election of 1896, with silver being the cause of
this downfall. With the dominance of the Democratic and Republicans in the political landscape of

The populists fed off of many different issues that led to their rise and impact, with one of the
main issues being the call for ownership of railroads for farmers which will make it easier for
farmers to go from their crop to the market but the thing is that it has to be low cost (Eric foner,
653). With the party calling for low cost rails, they gained the trust of the farmers, saving the
process of going back and forth which cost them large amounts of money. With the decrease in
prices, the farmers do not have to spend as much as they were before, which in result would grant
them the ability to be able to invest more in their crop. One of the other reasons the populists rose
to prominence was the fact that even though they were not as popular on the national level, they
were trying to unite black and white farmers on both economic and political program (Eric foner,
654). With them even trying to unite these two races it showed that they were listening to the
people s problems. The main reason the populist party collapsed was during the 1896 campaign of
the nomination of William Bryan for president with their program being reduced to free silver
(Eric foner, 657). When Bryan bringing up the prospects of free silver, the demise of their party
was eminent, since that was not a key aspect of what the populist party stood

Stereotypes Of Dumb Blonde
What does a blonde do when her laptop computer freezes? She sticks it in the microwave. We

branded the blonde as what the world knows to be the archetype of the dumb girl. Today a
member of society is judged on his/her looks, personality, and money. However, no matter how

The dumb blonde is a popular culture stereotype often applied to women with blonde hair. Now
the blonde has been branded by the dumb blonde impression. In the article No Logo by Naomi
Klein it is stated that the brand is not a reflection of quality but a reflection of what the marketing
department wants it to stand for (Klein, 3). For example the everyday blonde symbols a dingy
and arrogant but attractive and popular woman. This is an identity that people have adapted in to
their lifestyles. A few years ago society seen the brainless blonde everywhere partly due to the
marketing corporation because it a part of advertisement that fits a particular style of people.
From the movie Legally Blonde to the hit television show The vampire Dairies the dumb blonde
stereotype is beginning to change. Blondes are not really that dumb. For instance Legally Blonde
shows a woman going through law school and winning her case. Media may have created the dumb

An act is acted upon through lack of knowledge known as ignorance when the performer is unaware
of the consequences of the specific condition. Performing in the course of unawareness must be
separated from performing in ignorance. One may be performing ignorance through drunkenness or
moral depravity, which is an act of moral corruption that ends up being extremely worse. Voluntary
acts are acts that are the opposite of involuntary acts. A voluntary act involves choice that human
beings are only capable of. The choice that one makes is different from rage or desire. Such
actions, then, are mixed, but are more like voluntary actions; for they are worthy of choice at the
time when they are done, and the end of an action is relative to the occasion (Book III). True choice
requires rational consideration, an ability unique to human beings, which also means that the
human being choosing can verify that one action is preferable to another. An example of voluntary
action is the decision to play a sport for school or not. Playing a sport for school may take time out

How Reconstruction Failed to Bring Equality to Freed Blacks
After the Civil War, the government had changed from a republican rule to a democratic rule that
had hatred towards the South because of conflicts that had arisen during the Civil War. The
Northern Republicans wanted to punish the South by forming laws that terminated slavery and
granted freed blacks the right to vote, the right to own land, the right to due process, and outlawed
discrimination based on race; all were attempts to try and end slavery by reconstructing the justice
and social and economic equality among freed blacks. In theory, the thought of reconstruction was

right of life, liberty, and property and cannot so be done without due process. Therefore the

In addition to the fourteenth amendment, the fifteenth amendment also encourages equal rights
such as, The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the
United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude
(Document C). What the fifteenth amendment is trying to say is that no one who is a citizen of

The Controversy of Religion in A Connecticut Yankee at King Arthur s Court Religion provides
answers, evokes a sense of comfort in the unknown, and designs a moral code; however controversy
now surrounds this subject regarding whether religion s impact is more detrimental or beneficial to
a society as a whole. Mark Twain s narrator, Hank Morgan, travels back in time and attempts to
accelerate the advancement of these people through the creation of technology and more
importantly the destruction of the Church. Religion is a driving force in Mark Twain s A
Connecticut Yankee in King Arthurs Court, as both the benefits and consequences are analyzed in
order to address religion s impact on society. Throughout history religion offers protection and
the alleviation from the bewildering unknown as well as a strong moral code. After a long,
tiresome journey to rescue the princesses, Hank and Sandy are alarmed to find the alleged
royalty as pigs. As unsettling as this appears, Sandy states God shields us as she turns to her faith
to offer an explanation (Twain 198). Despite such a perplexing situation, Sandy finds comfort in
knowing that God protects them. The unexpected result of their protracted travels befuddles
Sandy; however, as religion has taught its followers, God always has a explanation for everything,
leading Sandy to set aside her worries and find comfort in knowing that this is

While conflict is a part of social relationships, there are many conflicts that are escalated beyond
the normal day to day interactive conflicts. Day to day interactive conflicts such as disagreeing

relatively easy to negotiate. However, more serious conflicts arise during the course of daily

Mayans, Aztecs And Mayan Civilizations
Did you know that the Mayans, Aztecs, and Incas had very advanced civilizations? They all

very prosperous before they came to their conclusions. These civilizations were very advanced

there was the king, then the nobles. Below the nobles was the middle class made up of priests
and commoners; slaves made up the lowest level. The society was prosperous until around AD
800. The Mayans decline is thought to have been caused be the large growth in population. There
was not enough farmers or land to provide enough food for the communities. In the reading
Mayan Civilization by Suzanne Hopkins it says, Food production plummeted, and famine forced
people to leave the urban centers (57). By AD 950, the cities were mostly abandoned, swallowed
up by the jungle. However, the Mayan people were still around, dispersed across Central America;

The Power Of Corruption And Absolutism In Movie Analysis...
Corruption and absolutism are ruling France. The movie well describes France as a big corrupted
state where the poverty is on such a bad level, therefore, the people of France are starting to realize
that the king, Louis XVI, should be taken down. The idea of to getting France to change to better is
visualized through the main characters which are not trying to help just Francebut also the French
people. However, the nobles are making it impossible for anybody, who is not on their side, to
even get a chance to see the king and the noblewomen have the power of corruption which is shown
in many ways throughout the movie.
The main character, which in the movie is called the Engineer, is a noble from the southwest
part of France. He may not be as rich as the nobles that live in Versailles, but he is honest, straight
forward, compassionate, and pure hearted. He is willing to take action, he understands the
poverty, and he is seeking the progress of France. His family owns a property in the southwest
France that is surrounded by swamps. The swamps are a very good place for mosquitoes to
reproduce and, with the poverty being on such a bad level, the people are starting to get sick and
they even die. The fever that the mosquitoes are transmitting is killing Engineer s people so he is
going to do everything he can to stop it. The Engineer s plan is to go to Versailles and talk to the

Black Swan is a dark and chaotic film that follows a ballet dancer named Nina who s only and

Nina s demise into chaos as she attempts to master and embody both the white and black swan.
Although dark, confusing, and sometimes frightening, the movie excellently portrays the utter
chaos of living with an eating disorder, as well as the perils of schizophrenia, and anxiety. The
movie begins with the portrayal of Nina as a timid person struggling with Anorexia and self

Marya Hornbacher in Wasted describes eating disorders as a little private drama in which
everything becomes life or death... terribly grand and crashing, distracting the person from the
real world (Hornbacher 239). It s a life where there is no middle ground and I think this how
Nina lived. Nina struggled immensely with herself even before the schizophrenia became clear.
Hornbacher describes her eating disorder as a distraction from the fear that the real world will
gobble you up the minute you step into it, as well as the fear of the self, a completely dualistic
and contradictory fear (Hornbacher 239). Even at the start of the film, the viewer can see that Nina
is scared. Nina s mother molded her to always strive for perfection, and the aspiration for perfection
became so overwhelming and important it began to eat her away. Marya Hornbacher also
emphasizes the American culture s negative influence on striving for physical perfection. Ballet, a

Morality And Ethical Connotations Of War
INTRODUCTION Humans have discussed and argued about the morality and ethical
connotations of war, and the means in which we conduct our wars, for thousands of years. Every
major civilization in our world has an evolved tradition on what is and is not acceptable on the
battlefields in which we meet. These traditions and views continue to change based on a
reflection on similar concerns. These concerns are the questions to which we seek answers to
that help shape who we are as individuals and countries. Who are the individuals that can be
named legitimate targets? What weapons, or weapon systems, can we use to engage and possibly
kill these targets? What amount of collateral damage and/or civilian casualties are acceptable in
order to engage these targets? Moral and ethical evaluations of the available weapons are naturally
grounded in the answers that traditions have provided to these fundamental questions. One
important moral implication, effecting how we address the question of civilian casualties, has to
do with weapons that are inherently indiscriminate. It is widely accepted that not only is their use
in war morally prohibited, but their mere possession as well is looked at as immoral. There is
some historical evidence that suggests that the use of biological weapons may be at least 3300
years old. Ancient texts have recently provided evidence that in the Middle East the Hittites around
1320 BCE sent rams infected with the bacterial disease tularemia (rabbit

Candy Chromatography Research Paper
I. INTRODUCTION
A. Background of study
Candy coated sweets come in different colors and sometimes even vary in flavor in association
with the colors. These colors provide a creative display for children to easily get attracted to the
particular treat, leaving those tinted marks on their mouths and a happy, satisfied grin on their faces.
The reason for conducting the research is to know how the colors of our favorite candy coated
sugary rewards came to be and that method of knowing is what we call Candy Crhomatography .

Descriptive Essay About A Glass Island
Looking around me, I see an abundant amount of green plants and sand. I felt the micro grainy
sand between my toes. Realizing that I m not in my cozy bed, I start panicking, trying to
remember what happened. All I remember is that it was a devastating shipwreck. I woke up here
not knowing what happen for I blacked out after the ship had crash into something. I sigh knowing
that there s nothing I could do except sit there and wait for help. Nevertheless, I decided to wander
around.
There were so many things surrounding me I didn t even know where to begin. I started by taking
in a deep breath and smelled the salty scent of the sea. Before I could focus on what s around me, I
felt the scorching heat from the sun beaming on my skin. In contrast to the heat, I felt the subtle
cool breeze blowing through my hair.
Bringing my attention to what s ahead of me, I hear the sea crawling onto the shore. I walked
towards the crystal clear water hoping that by putting my feet in it would help me cool off.
Although it was hot, the water was unexpectedly cold. Taking my feet out, I started making my
way towards the green scenery. I hear birds chirping and faint sounds of trees rustling from the
light breeze as I was walking. The first thing I noticed was the sign that said Glass Island and the
bushes surrounding it. I bent down to touch the pieces of tree trunk scattered on the ground. The
tree trunk left my fingers fascinated, for it was a texture I ve never felt before. Squinting my

Causes And Treatment Of Infective Endocarditis
Before discussing Infective Endocarditis, it s imperative to understand where the endocardium is
along with its function because endocarditis affects this area of the heart. The Endocardium is the
innermost layer of heart tissue that lines the cavities and valves of the heart and is composed of
loose epithelial and connective tissue. The endocardium regulates contractions of the heart and
helps regulate the composition of the bloodthat feeds the tissues of the heart (Kenney, 2015).
Infective Endocarditis, IE, is an infection of the endocardium that generally occurs when bacteria or
germs from another part of the body, such as the mouth, spread through the bloodstream and attach
to damaged areas in the heart (Endocarditis Definition, 2015). Individuals that have an increased
risk of developing Endocarditis include:
Those with Pacemakers or Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD)
Individuals with existing conditions of the heart valves
HIV (What Increases Your Risk of Endocarditis?, 2015).
Diabetes Mellitus and long term hemodialysis (Infective endocarditis in adults, 2001).
According to the American Heart Association, endocarditis affects twice as many men as women
and eight times as many older men as older woman. More than a quarter of all cases occur in
individuals that are older than 60 years of age (Heart Valves and Infective Endocarditis, 2014). In
the United States alone, national data indicated that in 2009 there were up to 28,000 hospital

Chernobyl Nuclear Power Facility s Reactor No
On April 26, 1986, an alarm sounded during a routine test in the Chernobyl Nuclear Power
Facility s Reactor No. 4. Within a year, several thousand people were dead due to nuclear fallout.
Five thousand miles away in the heartland of the United States, high radiation levels decimated
crop production. Infant mortality rates and birth deformities skyrocketed across the globe. Today,
having just passed the 28th anniversary of this infamous disaster, we still feel the impact created
by the worst nuclear incident in world history. Just what happened on that fateful spring day which
resulted in over 500,000 deaths in the last decade? Was it allowing the construction of poorly
designed reactors that those in high positions turned a blind eye to? Was it employing people to
high positions with little to no knowledge on how to actually run a nuclear powerplant as advanced
as Chernobyl? Was it the gross incompetence in Soviet era government concerning nuclear power?
In a terrifying twist of fate, it was all three that lead to the worst nuclear disaster in history.
Construction of Chernobyl began in 1970, alongside the city of Pripyat, which housed the large
majority of the plant s workers. Chernobyl was the first nuclear power plant built in Ukraine and
the third built under the Soviet Union. Originally called the V.I. Lenin Nuclear Power Station, it
powered 10% of Ukraine with four 1,000 megawatt reactors. Reactors No. 1 and No. 2 were both

Drunk Driving Du
Penalties against drunk drivers should be increased
If the current penalties for drunk driving are good enough, there should be far less alcohol related
accidents, but that is not the case. Deaths from alcohol related car accidents have dropped by a
third in the last three decades, but that is not enough considering the damage still being done.
Every day approximately 29 people in the United States die because of driving under the influence.
The most terrible part about this is when innocent people die because of the actions of another. I
believe the recurrence of DUI s are mainly caused by people who do not take the related dangers
seriously and look at the penalties as not that severe. The other reasons why people drink and
drive are based on several categories that relate to decision making. When all factors have
combined the risk of drunk driving increases. Penalties for drunk driving should be increased to
help prevent more fatalities.
There is still a large number of traffic fatalities involving alcohol and this is not acceptable. Every
two hours, three people are killed in alcohol related highway crashes. The consequences of
drinking and driving are arrests, property damage, injuries, and thousands of deaths each year
(Chambers 1). In 2010, there were about four million U.S adults reported for driving under the
influence. Alcohol related highway crashes accounted for 13,365 deaths in 2010, and to top that
off, the alcohol related accidents cost Americans an

Insurgent Definition Essay
Insurgent is defined as a movement or political effort with a specific aim while defining terrorism
into a simple definition is not as easily accomplished (Spindlove Simonsen.) For the purposes of
this paper, terrorism will be defined as the use and/or threat of repeated violence in support of, or in
opposition to, some authority, where violence is employed to induce fear of similar attack in as
many non immediate victims so that those so threatened accept and comply with the demands of
the terrorists (Spindlove Simonsen.) It is possible to have an insurgency without resorting to
committing acts of terror, but not possible to be a terrorist without an insurgency also existing. In
the case of Afghanistan, the country has a long history if insurgency against occupying forces and
providing a safe haven for terrorists to train without fear of government interference.
Afghanistan has a long and tumultuous history as a country that served as a buffer between the
British and Russian Empires until it won its independence in 1919 (CIA.) In the years after gaining
independence, the country had seen many changes in government leadership. ... Show more content

Preventing Elderly Falls
Goal: Post about preventing falls for seniors Total words in document: Title: How to Avoid The
Slip, Trip, and Fall Slips and falls are the leading cause of unintentional deaths for seniors. They
can also cause serious injury, which can mean time away from the home to rehabilitate. This is
often distressing for both seniors and family members. It is important to fall proof the home as
much as possible. Install grab bars These are especially essential in the shower where slips are
most likely to happen due to wet conditions. It is a good idea to have them around the toilet as
well, since this up and down movement is often difficult for seniors. Adjust height Consider
changing the height of things like toilet seats and chairs to make them easier to get on and off.

Having a solid shoe can help immensely with stability and mobility. Stocking feet can also cause
slips because they are inherently more slippery than a good rubber soled shoe. Make flooring
non slip Polished wood and tile floors are a slip hazard. Make sure that flooring has enough
resistance to prevent slipping. Carpeting is ideal, but non slip mats are also a good choice for
bathrooms and kitchens. Just be careful of transitions that might be a trip hazard. Remove trip
hazards Trip hazards are many in the average home. Be careful of transitions between rooms and
types of flooring. Make sure that floors are level and that transitions between carpet and tile or
wood are covered with a transition piece that is well attached and at the correct angle to prevent
tripping. Consider installing ramps over stairs, or adding a chair lift to avoid falling on stairs.
Avoid loose clothing Loose clothing, especially if it drags on the ground, can be a fall hazard.
Getting wrapped up in a garment, or tripping over a hem, are recipes for trips and falls. Make sure
that clothing is well fitted and does not

Defining an Individual Essay
Defining an Individual
What is an individual? How can one become an individual? Is it even possible to become an
individual in society? Can we successfully distinguish ourselves from the majority to make our
own decisions? How does your family affect your personality and every day decision making: your
ethics and morals? How does your childhood affect you today? How does it affect our subconscious
something we can not control and we do not have access to? Is it possible to go back in time and
completely erase everything we have been taught through years of brainwashing and manipulation,
not only from the system that we are brought up in but also the family and lifestyles that are now
part of us?

Can we trust our instincts to lead us in a personal, unorthodox way? Does it mean that we spend
our life in pursuit of this great task of erasing our past? Is that possible? Does it mean that we
question everything we do in order to make our own choices? Would not that mean we are being
affected directly from the exact thing we desperately need to escape? Would not it be incredibly
easy to rebel against the norm to appear individual? If you rebel against the way of everything else
then you are doing the exact same thing that everyone else is doing. Rebelling does not institute
individualism. There is no environment that would serve the purpose of producing an individual.
Once we use these words environment and producing, we instantly defeat the purpose.
In The Soul s Code by James Hillman he states, The category unshared environment is an
invention of hard sciences to locate the cause of individual differences (Hillman, 149). An
environment that is unshared by it s surroundings is a fallacy. He goes on to state, Even the pillow
on which I lie breathing as I float into my own private midnight dream bears traces of duck down,
polyester, and cotton and the environments from which is was manufactured, as well as of the
traffic of mites sharing the pillow with me (149). There is no environment capable of testing the
individual outside of society.

Why Do People Have A Near Death Experience
Have you ever had a near death experience? Did you notice any changes in yourself or things
around you? Many people have noticed monumental changes after their near death experiences. No
matter the degree of danger, they still realized common things. A near death experience can
transform one s personal life and beliefs. Most people who have had near deathexperiences have
five things in common: changes in priority, time slows down, not realizing they made a choice with
their actions, and things turned unexpectedly dangerous quickly.
Many people who have experienced near death experiences have had a change in priorities such as
Tom Benecke, Patrick Daniels, and Scott Lear. Before Tom Benecke had his near death experience
,
his main priority was finishing his work instead of spending time with his wife. After he almost
fell from a ledge that was outside his window, he realized that he was putting things before his

Closed Circulatory System Lab Report
The purpose of this experiment was to identify how open and closed circulatory systems respond to
chemical stimulants. During this experiment a ghost shrimp represented the open circulatory
system, while the black worm represented the closed circulatory system. For each organism there
resting heart rates were recorded by count the number of pulsations the organism had under a
microscope. First, the shrimp and the worm were treated with caffeine, and then their heart rate was
recorded after the organisms were exposed to the treatment for three minutes. The organisms were
removed from the caffeine, and were given time to return back to their resting heart rates. The
shrimp and the worm were then exposed to ethanol, and there hear rates were recorded again....

When the shrimp was exposed to the caffeine the heart rate increased by 50.4 beats, and when
the shrimp was exposed to the ethanol the heart rate decreased by 34.8 beats. The worms
average resting heart rate was 21, the heart rate affected by caffeine was 32.83, and the heart rate
affected by ethanol was 21. The average increase in heart rate was 11.83 beats, and the average
decrease in heart rate was 7.5 beats. From this data we can conclude that caffeine acted as a
chemical stimulant and speed up how frequently the heart was pumping blood into the system.
Ethanol acted as a chemical sedative and slowed down how many times the heart pumped blood
into the system. Even though the two organisms had different circulatory systems, they were still
affected in the same manner. The only difference between the two systems during this experiment
is open circulatory systems have higher heart rates overall compared to closed circulatory

Introduction:
The name Antartica comes from a greek word which means the opposite of north. Antarctica is the
southernmost continent and is known for having cold and windy conditions. It is the fifth largest
continent out of seven other continents in the world and the area of Antarctica is 14,000,000 km2
and around 90% of it is covered in ice.

how these conditions would affect animal survival
The environment conditions in Antarctica is very harsh, it is known for being the most coldest
and windiest continent in the world as 98% of it is covered in ice which is 4.7 kilometres thick.
Antarctica is considered a desert due to the fact that it barely rains and how dry it is around the
continent. The weather temperature in Antarctica can go as low as 89.6 degrees celsius and a
high of 12.3 degrees celsius with an average temperature of 49 degrees celsius. This is because
of the height above sea levels, the atmosphere and the land masses around Antarctica which is
why the continent is an extremely cold place. In Antarctica the strong winds that are caused is due
to the strong winds which are the katabatic winds. The cold and dry katabatic wind is caused by
the downslope gravity flow which is formed by the cold air. The highest wind velocity in

Search for Innocence in American Modernism Essay
Search for Innocence in American Modernism
American Literature from its very beginning has been centered around a theme of innocence. The
Puritans wrote about abandoning the corruption of Europe to find innocence in a new world. The
Romantics saw innocence and power in nature and often wrote of escaping from civilization to
return to nature. After the Civil War, however, the innocenceof the nation is challenged. The
Realists focused on the loss of innocence and in Naturalist works innocence is mostly gone.
During these periods of American Literature it seems almost as if a hole was being dug, a sort of
emptying of innocence, and after World War I the Modernists called this hole the wastelandMany
Modernist works focus on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Secondly, a return to innocence is almost like a return to virtue. The example of this that comes
most readily to mind is the complete turn around of Jean Valjean in Victor Hugo s Les Miserables.
It is remembering that the world really can be a place filled with beauty and wonder, virtue and
meaning, and then acting so as to belong to that world, rather than the world of the wasteland.
What does it mean to belong to the world of the wasteland?
Son of man,
You cannot say, or guess, for you know only
A heap of broken images, where the sun beats
And the dead tree gives no shelter, the cricket no relief,
And the dry stone no sound of water. (Eliot, 1448)
Son of man refers to Ezekiel II, I where God directs Ezekiel to stand. The inhabitants of the
wasteland are fallen and unenlightened, their personalities and world fragmented. There is no love
in the wasteland, only alienation. The couple in Hills Like White Elephants find themselves unable
to communicate, as is shown by their meaningless and shallow conversations and their inability to
understand one another when they do say anything meaningful. This lack of communication is also
displayed in the following lines of The Wasteland:
My nerves are bad to night. Yes, bad. Stay with me.
Speak to me. Why do you never speak. Speak.
What are you thinking of? What thinking? What?
I never know what you are

Roman And Greek Mythology
Throughout time beliefs have changed, advanced, and occasionally begun. This is very apparent
with Roman and Greek Mythology. Roman Mythology and Greek Mythology have a pretty
similar lineage. However, after the Greeks left their ideals in Italy, the Roman Empire worked a
way to create their own identity branching off from the Greeks that came before them. Roman
authors did this through identifying their own Roman god s with those of the Greeks. As well they
reinterpreted stories about Greek god s into stories about their own Roman deities. This laid the
foundation for Rome to cultivate its own mythology and as well its own religious beliefs. This is
most apparent through the stories leading up to and including the founding of Rome. It all starts
with the Aeneidby Virgil.
The Aeneid is a Latin epic poem written by Roman poet Virgil between 29 and 19 BC. The Aeneid
tells the story of Aeneas. Aeneas was a demigod, born of god Aphrodite (Venus) and mortal royal
member of Troy, Anchises. One day Aphrodite had seen Anchises and... Show more content on

An example of this are the Vestal Virgins. Vestal Virgins held a great deal of power within the
Roman religious structure. The virgins would serve a thirty year term of maintaining the sacred fire
that burned in the Temple of Vesta
. The number of Vestal Virgins varied first starting at two, then
eventually expanding to six. Unsurprising at the time, a majority of Virgins kept their oaths of
celibacy, as the punishment for betrayal was to be buried alive in a tomb of concrete. Also, the
man with whom the Virgin slept with would be buried alive with them. Being a Vestal Virgin was
the most important job a woman could get in Rome as women were not an important part of life in
the Roman culture. This differed from much of the Ancient Greek society as most of the holy
women or priestesses were promiscuous and had many partners. This was done through sacred

`` Buried Child `` And The Color Purple By Sam Shepard,...
Most aspects pertaining to what we know as the conventional family norm or values can be seen
challenged in novels such as Buried Child , The Little Girl Who Was Found of Matches , and The
Colour Purple . In all three novels themes, such as murder, abuse, and family relations, along with
other taboo related or unacceptable behavior in society are displayed by characters reflecting to us
how the authors of the novels have chosen to portray familylife in their works. In each novel, we
are given an outlook into the darker aspects of what we may know about occurring in society,
but maybe not in the detailed or graphic manner presented by writers Sam Shepard, GaГ©tan
Soucy, and Alice Walker. It can be said that these dark elements of family life employed in the
novels are unconventional yet are not things that are unknown to us, as they are existing
problems in society. The assumptions made by the three authors of each novel, pertaining to the
occurrence of such activities happening is plausible and does happen, which only means that
outside of challenging the notions of family, the authors chose a specific approach to how their
novels portray family life. Interpretations as to why each author chose to reflect darker aspects of
family life can be assumed to be for the basic reasoning that these are not things that do not
happen and while it may be uneasy for readers it only speaks on what really does happen or could
happen to which we can contribute to the writers and

Gender Stereotypes In Nowlan s The Fall Of A City
Gender stereotypes in Nowlan s The Fall of a City Why is it that girls can wear pants, but boys
cannot wear dresses? Why can girls play with trucks, but boys cannot play with dolls? Why has
society restricted girl like behavior for boys?
In The Fall of a City, Teddy, the protagonist faces similar challenges. The Fall of a City is a
fictitious short story written by Alden Nowlan. A young boy creates a miniature city out of paper
and cardboard and uses his vivid imagination to escape reality. Unfortunately, conflicts and
characterization teaches Teddy that in order to be socially accepted in the adult world, he must
abandon his innocent, child like ways and succumb to gender stereotypes.
First of all, Teddy learns to succumb ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, Teddy goes to the attic and sees that the city was as he had left it. Yet everything
had changed. Always before when he had come here, his flesh had tingled, his eyes had shone
with excitement. Now there was only a taste like that of a spoilt nutmeg (Nowlan 3). After
Teddy s talk with his uncle, his innocent love of playing with Theodoresburg has been ruined.
Teddy sees the city in a new perspective, knowing that adults believe that he is playing with paper
dolls and dollhouses. This reveals that Teddy is weak when it comes to his uncle, as he gives in
to his torment. Once humiliated by his uncle, Teddy is easily influenced by the idea of him
exhibiting girl like behavior. In addition, Teddy easily succumbs to gender stereotypes and lets
his uncle ruin his love of playing with the city. Another example is when Teddy [...] bent and
seized the cardboard palace. Gritting his teeth and grunting, he tore at its walls. The corrugated
board was sturdy: he was crying by the time he finished tearing it to shreds (Nowlan 4). In other
words, Teddy destroys his fort and since he was crying, it is evident that he was not happy about
doing so. This also reveals that Teddy is very sensitive and that his uncle s put downs really hurt
him. Teddy s uncle went on about how Teddy is acting like a girl by playing with dolls and
dollhouses. He laughs at him and tells him that he

The Difference Between Human Language And Animal Language...
Research Paper of Animal Communication If you have a pet like dog, you will think it knows us.
They know our expressions and they always can give us a comfort when we are in terrible

language and animal language. Animal might not be able to speak a real language, but they can use
certain way to communicate with each other. Language communication can be divided into two
forms, which is verbal and nonverbal. Most of animals use body languages to communicate. There
are many ways to communicate in nonverbal communications, some animals use signs, signals, or
sounds to communicate. For example, Bees dance when they find the nectar, horses rub noses as a
sign of affection, and chimpanzees greet each other by touching hands. Humans and animals use
three basic forms of signs in communication: sound, odor and body movement. All systems of
communication contain units of form that have specifics meaning as signs. Depending on different
species animals have distinct forms nonverbal language, such as foxes have twenty forms of
vocalization. The greatest similarity between human and animal communication is the use of
sound. Humans express emotion through the use of words and tone in the same way as animals

  • 2. The Founding of Our Nations Government Essay The Founding of Our Nations Government The Articles of Confederation were extremely important in the founding of our government today. The Articles gave us a sort of good base to start from, and was ground breaking in the shaping of our new nation. The Articles of Confederation were written by a Second Continental Congressional committee during the early part of the American Revolution in 1777. A report of the proposed articles was presented to the committee by John Dickson (committee head) just eight days after the signing of the Declaration Of Independence. The fear of the 13 colonies was to have a powerful central government, as they did in Great Britain. The Articles were changed drastically by the Continental Congress before ... Those who did not attend included Thomas Jefferson, Richard Henry Lee, Patrick Henry, John Adams, Samuel Adams, and John Hancock. In all 55 delegates attended the Constitutional Convention sessions, but only 39 actually signed the Constitution. The delegates ranged in age from Jonathon Dayton, aged 26, and to Benjamin Franklin at 81 years of age, who was very sick at the time. The plan of the delegates was to remedy the defects in the Articles of Confederation, but Virginia delegates had a new idea in mid and boldly proposed the Virginia Plan, which introduced a whole new national government instead of the confederation. The New Jersey Plan was also presented as an alternative, but it was based mainly on autonomous states being represented by a single chamber. When bicameral legislation was approved it effectively made the decision for the Virginia Plan, and allowed for the New ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Comparison Of Oedipus And Frogs To begin with, if Oedipus and Frogs are to be taken into consideration and the aspects of the plot dissected using the guidelines provided in Poetics, then based on Aristotle s definition of plot as organization of events, it can be stated that the structure of plot is the same for the two stories of opposing genres, for both have a beginning, a middle and an end one following after the other resulting in a well constructed plot not beginning or ending at any arbitrary point (Aristotle 10 13 14). However, while the character experiences a fall from good fortune to bad fortune in most tragedies, in most comedies the character experiences a fall from bad fortune to good fortune (Aristotle 21 22). Thus, in regards to Oedipusit can be noted that the story follows the general plot structure with Oedipus first facing good fortune briefly in the beginning of the play, as alluded to by the Elder who states that Oedipus came to Thebes, saved us from the Sphinx,/ And without any help, derived us from despair/... Now, Oedipus, our master and greatest power (Sophocleslines 35 36 40). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Covenants And The Roles Of Profit, Priest, And King Covenants and the Roles of Profit, Priest, and King in Organizational Management There are 6 major covenants in the Bible, Adam and Eve, pre flood Noah, post flood Noah, Abrahamic, Moses, and Jesus, with multiple themes of salvation, Messiah, and grace. Each are promises between God and His people and have four common elements; a benefactor; God, a beneficiary; man, terms and conditions, and a token or symbol. Gender Stereotypes In Video Games Introduction As per the findings of the general social survey, administered by Statistics Canada (2010), video game usage has more than doubled in the last 20 years. Most researchers seem to agree that the stereotypical video game player is a young, white, heterosexual male (e.g. Shaw, 2012; Williams, Consalvo, Caplan, Yee, 2009). In considering the topic of genderand gaming, one of the first questions to consider is whether or not this stereotypical view of video game players is accurate. Based on the assumption taken into consideration by Modigliani and Miller that the investors and firm have equal access to financial markets, which allows them for homemade leverage. The authors also pointed out that the investor can create any leverage they wanted but not offered or the investor can get rid of any leverage that the firm took on but was not wanted. • 11. The Importance Of Cultural Imperialism The Kiowa are a Native American people who have been greatly impacted by cultural imperialism. They were forced to adapt to western culture, and in this many of the Kiowa people were converted to Christianity. Christianity is said to be a very important aspect of many Native American cultures still today, but the way in which Christianity is portrayed and practiced in such societies, including that of the Kiowa, stays true to both the religion itself and their Native practices. The Kiowa are said to have kiowanized Christianity. The Kiowa version of Christianity is said to differ from the white man s way. This means that they believe in God, integrate their culture and lifestyles into Christianity, and they also relay the importance of their religion in a different manner. They use their native language in their hymns, and these hymns are comprised primarily of those elements that pertain directly to Kiowa culture. In the text Lassiter states, Kiowa hymns give life to a unique Kiowa experience, preserve the language, and affirm and ongoing (and continually unfolding) Kiowa spirituality. This reveals the effectiveness and importance of the integration of Christianity and native Kiowa practices. Language has been a central focus of anthropological interest for many reasons. • 12. Social And Social Influence On Behavior Essay Social influence Social psychologists try to understand human behavior in terms of the influence others have in producing it (Aronson, Wilson Akert, 1994). The following passage explains specifically how social groups can influence behavior. In particular, the discussion will Center on the role groups play in the formation of social norms and social roles. With reference to experiments, the passage will show the terms and degree to which people are likely to conform under group pressure to those norms and roles. Muzafer Sherif (1935) conducted an experiment which showed the effects a group can have on the behavior of an individual. Participants were asked individually to identify how far a white dot moved on a black screen in a dark room. They were then asked to do the same task but in a group with other participants who had also completed the task independently. It was found that answers changed considerably towards a norm which they all shared. Just the presence of the group influenced the participant s opinions. Jackobs and Campbell (1961), in a similar experiment, showed how group norms can pass through generations. They replicated the study several times replacing one old participant with a new one each time. They found that the norm found in the initial study was still prevalent over time even when the original group no longer was present. The original group established a norm which then became a social norm as it pervaded subsequent groups. However, it can be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The scene itself stands for a real life possibility beyond the movie. Norman Amaker of the NAACP detailed the increasing tension between the African Americans and the government in the 1950s, arguing how it was the law that primarily separated Blacks from their rights. He argued that it is not the white population to blame, but rather the government, since the government is vindicating the arguments by essentially making racism legal. The resulting trouble was that the predominantly white government and the black protesters were not working together to achieve equality. The separations were too large. Eventually though, in the years succeeding Amaker s published work, legal bounds were in fact made. The government finally turned some of the racial equality appeals in to law. With the government and white Americans more effectively working together, great progress was made in terms of racial equality. Through the actions of the NAACP, and other protest groups like it, leaders on each side (government and citizens seeking change) were able to communicate and work together. In addition to the household names, leaders like Roy Wilkins and Tyson Moore were able to help communicate the issue and bring change. This synergy is mimicked in the climax of Blazing Saddles. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The madman is the main character of the short story. However, a question should be raised before any analysis is initiated; Is the madman really mad? In the very beginning of the story, the writer proclaims that he had found out that the madman had suffered from a form of persecution complex . I disagree with this claim because, like what the writer asserted, if what is written on the diary is just the outcome of the illusion caused by persecution complex, the value of the story would be somewhat meaningless. Furthermore, the madman has clear subjectivity and consistency. Hence, the madman is not actually mad. The madman s diary reminded me of a Korean folktale that my mother used to tell me, which is about a man with two eyes visiting a land where everybody is one eyed. The two eyed man who always thought having two eyes is normal, was mocked and called, abnormal for having two eyes. Eventually the two eyed man ended up stabbing one of his own eyes and chose to be one of the one eyed men. From the perspective in regard to this folktale, the madman is actually the one who became conscious of the truth. However, he is not the only one in the story who is aware of the truth. As it is illustrated in the text, there are two types of cannibals; those who believe cannibalism is acceptable because it is their tradition that passed down through multiple generations, and those who realize that cannibalism is wrong but would still maintain it. Their recognition itself that cannibalism is inappropriate is same as that of the madman. However, unlike others who do not make an attempt to break the convention, or tradition (cannibalism), the madman resolutely broke away from the existing convention and expressed his dedication toward breaking the convention and tried to make it happen. I personally think that the madman was rather a representation of the intellectual. In addition, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When more people are born than die, the population increases. In your own words, why did 19th century Europe see a dramatic increase in migration and immigration? What were some of the motivating factors? Migration and immigration increased in 19th century Europe because there were more jobs available in cities and towns that paid more than those in the country. Additionally, some migrants, like the Irish, came to escape bad living conditions, in that case to get away from a potato famine. New cities and changing ideas offered a safe haven for those prosecuted for their religious beliefs or political stance in other countries, prompting migration into major metropolitan areas. This brings me to question why figures are still rising despite law changes and public awareness. Research shows that few criminals are being prosecuted for committing a hate crime. With the party calling for low cost rails, they gained the trust of the farmers, saving the process of going back and forth which cost them large amounts of money. With the decrease in prices, the farmers do not have to spend as much as they were before, which in result would grant them the ability to be able to invest more in their crop. In addition to the fourteenth amendment, the fifteenth amendment also encourages equal rights such as, The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude (Document C). What the fifteenth amendment is trying to say is that no one who is a citizen of the United States can be denied the right to vote because of the color of his or her skin. Lastly, the Civil Rights Act of 1875 states, That all persons within the jurisdiction of the United States shall be entitled to the full and equal enjoyment of the accommodations, advantages, facilities, and privileges of inns, public conveyances on land and water, theaters, and other places of public amusement (Document F) The Civil Rights Act of 1875 was created to eliminate segregation in public places such as transportation, restrooms, store etcetera. Therefore, these laws have the ability to make blacks equivalent to whites in terms of rights. However, these ideas by radical republicans were not highly effective, as shown ... • 29. Controversy Over Religion s Impact On Society Devin Arrants Ms. Sidle English III AP/DC per. 3 3 November 2015 Word Count: 1328 The Controversy of Religion in A Connecticut Yankee at King Arthur s Court Religion provides answers, evokes a sense of comfort in the unknown, and designs a moral code; however controversy now surrounds this subject regarding whether religion s impact is more detrimental or beneficial to a society as a whole. Mark Twain s narrator, Hank Morgan, travels back in time and attempts to accelerate the advancement of these people through the creation of technology and more importantly the destruction of the Church. Religion is a driving force in Mark Twain s A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthurs Court, as both the benefits and consequences are analyzed in order to address religion s impact on society. Throughout history religion offers protection and the alleviation from the bewildering unknown as well as a strong moral code. After a long, tiresome journey to rescue the princesses, Hank and Sandy are alarmed to find the alleged royalty as pigs. As unsettling as this appears, Sandy states God shields us as she turns to her faith to offer an explanation (Twain 198). Despite such a perplexing situation, Sandy finds comfort in knowing that God protects them. The unexpected result of their protracted travels befuddles Sandy; however, as religion has taught its followers, God always has a explanation for everything, leading Sandy to set aside her worries and find comfort in knowing that this is ... • 36. Morality And Ethical Connotations Of War INTRODUCTION Humans have discussed and argued about the morality and ethical connotations of war, and the means in which we conduct our wars, for thousands of years. Every major civilization in our world has an evolved tradition on what is and is not acceptable on the battlefields in which we meet. These traditions and views continue to change based on a reflection on similar concerns. These concerns are the questions to which we seek answers to that help shape who we are as individuals and countries. Who are the individuals that can be named legitimate targets? What weapons, or weapon systems, can we use to engage and possibly kill these targets? What amount of collateral damage and/or civilian casualties are acceptable in order to engage these targets? Moral and ethical evaluations of the available weapons are naturally grounded in the answers that traditions have provided to these fundamental questions. One important moral implication, effecting how we address the question of civilian casualties, has to do with weapons that are inherently indiscriminate. It is widely accepted that not only is their use in war morally prohibited, but their mere possession as well is looked at as immoral. There is some historical evidence that suggests that the use of biological weapons may be at least 3300 years old. Causes And Treatment Of Infective Endocarditis Before discussing Infective Endocarditis, it s imperative to understand where the endocardium is along with its function because endocarditis affects this area of the heart. The Endocardium is the innermost layer of heart tissue that lines the cavities and valves of the heart and is composed of loose epithelial and connective tissue. The endocardium regulates contractions of the heart and helps regulate the composition of the bloodthat feeds the tissues of the heart (Kenney, 2015). Infective Endocarditis, IE, is an infection of the endocardium that generally occurs when bacteria or germs from another part of the body, such as the mouth, spread through the bloodstream and attach to damaged areas in the heart (Endocarditis Definition, 2015). Deaths from alcohol related car accidents have dropped by a third in the last three decades, but that is not enough considering the damage still being done. Every day approximately 29 people in the United States die because of driving under the influence. The most terrible part about this is when innocent people die because of the actions of another. I believe the recurrence of DUI s are mainly caused by people who do not take the related dangers seriously and look at the penalties as not that severe. The other reasons why people drink and drive are based on several categories that relate to decision making. When all factors have combined the risk of drunk driving increases. Penalties for drunk driving should be increased to help prevent more fatalities. There is still a large number of traffic fatalities involving alcohol and this is not acceptable. Every two hours, three people are killed in alcohol related highway crashes. The consequences of drinking and driving are arrests, property damage, injuries, and thousands of deaths each year (Chambers 1). • 50. Search for Innocence in American Modernism Essay Search for Innocence in American Modernism American Literature from its very beginning has been centered around a theme of innocence. The Puritans wrote about abandoning the corruption of Europe to find innocence in a new world. The Romantics saw innocence and power in nature and often wrote of escaping from civilization to return to nature. After the Civil War, however, the innocenceof the nation is challenged. The Realists focused on the loss of innocence and in Naturalist works innocence is mostly gone. During these periods of American Literature it seems almost as if a hole was being dug, a sort of emptying of innocence, and after World War I the Modernists called this hole the wastelandMany Modernist works focus on ... The example of this that comes most readily to mind is the complete turn around of Jean Valjean in Victor Hugo s Les Miserables. It is remembering that the world really can be a place filled with beauty and wonder, virtue and meaning, and then acting so as to belong to that world, rather than the world of the wasteland. What does it mean to belong to the world of the wasteland? Son of man, You cannot say, or guess, for you know only A heap of broken images, where the sun beats And the dead tree gives no shelter, the cricket no relief, And the dry stone no sound of water. (Eliot, 1448) Son of man refers to Ezekiel II, I where God directs Ezekiel to stand. The inhabitants of the wasteland are fallen and unenlightened, their personalities and world fragmented. There is no love in the wasteland, only alienation. The couple in Hills Like White Elephants find themselves unable to communicate, as is shown by their meaningless and shallow conversations and their inability to understand one another when they do say anything meaningful. This lack of communication is also displayed in the following lines of The Wasteland: My nerves are bad to night. Yes, bad. Stay with me. Speak to me. Why do you never speak. Speak. What are you thinking of? What thinking? What? I never know what you are

  • 52. Roman And Greek Mythology Throughout time beliefs have changed, advanced, and occasionally begun. This is very apparent with Roman and Greek Mythology. Roman Mythology and Greek Mythology have a pretty similar lineage. However, after the Greeks left their ideals in Italy, the Roman Empire worked a way to create their own identity branching off from the Greeks that came before them. Roman authors did this through identifying their own Roman god s with those of the Greeks. As well they reinterpreted stories about Greek god s into stories about their own Roman deities. This laid the foundation for Rome to cultivate its own mythology and as well its own religious beliefs. This is most apparent through the stories leading up to and including the founding of Rome. It all starts with the Aeneidby Virgil. The Aeneid is a Latin epic poem written by Roman poet Virgil between 29 and 19 BC. The Aeneid tells the story of Aeneas. Aeneas was a demigod, born of god Aphrodite (Venus) and mortal royal member of Troy, Anchises. One day Aphrodite had seen Anchises and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An example of this are the Vestal Virgins. Vestal Virgins held a great deal of power within the Roman religious structure. The virgins would serve a thirty year term of maintaining the sacred fire that burned in the Temple of Vesta . The number of Vestal Virgins varied first starting at two, then eventually expanding to six. Unsurprising at the time, a majority of Virgins kept their oaths of celibacy, as the punishment for betrayal was to be buried alive in a tomb of concrete. Also, the man with whom the Virgin slept with would be buried alive with them. Being a Vestal Virgin was the most important job a woman could get in Rome as women were not an important part of life in the Roman culture. This differed from much of the Ancient Greek society as most of the holy women or priestesses were promiscuous and had many partners. This was done through sacred ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Most aspects pertaining to what we know as the conventional family norm or values can be seen challenged in novels such as Buried Child , The Little Girl Who Was Found of Matches , and The Colour Purple . In all three novels themes, such as murder, abuse, and family relations, along with other taboo related or unacceptable behavior in society are displayed by characters reflecting to us how the authors of the novels have chosen to portray familylife in their works. In each novel, we are given an outlook into the darker aspects of what we may know about occurring in society, but maybe not in the detailed or graphic manner presented by writers Sam Shepard, GaГ©tan Soucy, and Alice Walker. It can be said that these dark elements of family life employed in the novels are unconventional yet are not things that are unknown to us, as they are existing problems in society. The assumptions made by the three authors of each novel, pertaining to the occurrence of such activities happening is plausible and does happen, which only means that outside of challenging the notions of family, the authors chose a specific approach to how their novels portray family life. Interpretations as to why each author chose to reflect darker aspects of family life can be assumed to be for the basic reasoning that these are not things that do not happen and while it may be uneasy for readers it only speaks on what really does happen or could happen to which we can contribute to the writers and ... • 54. Gender Stereotypes In Nowlan s The Fall Of A City Gender stereotypes in Nowlan s The Fall of a City Why is it that girls can wear pants, but boys cannot wear dresses? Why can girls play with trucks, but boys cannot play with dolls? Why has society restricted girl like behavior for boys? In The Fall of a City, Teddy, the protagonist faces similar challenges. The Fall of a City is a fictitious short story written by Alden Nowlan. A young boy creates a miniature city out of paper and cardboard and uses his vivid imagination to escape reality. Unfortunately, conflicts and characterization teaches Teddy that in order to be socially accepted in the adult world, he must abandon his innocent, child like ways and succumb to gender stereotypes. First of all, Teddy learns to succumb ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, Teddy goes to the attic and sees that the city was as he had left it. Yet everything had changed. Always before when he had come here, his flesh had tingled, his eyes had shone with excitement. Now there was only a taste like that of a spoilt nutmeg (Nowlan 3). After Teddy s talk with his uncle, his innocent love of playing with Theodoresburg has been ruined. Teddy sees the city in a new perspective, knowing that adults believe that he is playing with paper dolls and dollhouses. This reveals that Teddy is weak when it comes to his uncle, as he gives in to his torment. Once humiliated by his uncle, Teddy is easily influenced by the idea of him exhibiting girl like behavior. In addition, Teddy easily succumbs to gender stereotypes and lets his uncle ruin his love of playing with the city. Another example is when Teddy [...] bent and seized the cardboard palace. Gritting his teeth and grunting, he tore at its walls. The corrugated board was sturdy: he was crying by the time he finished tearing it to shreds (Nowlan 4). In other words, Teddy destroys his fort and since he was crying, it is evident that he was not happy about doing so. This also reveals that Teddy is very sensitive and that his uncle s put downs really hurt him. Teddy s uncle went on about how Teddy is acting like a girl by playing with dolls and dollhouses. He laughs at him and tells him that he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
