What Is periodic Table
It is a table of the chemical
elements arranged in order of
atomic number, usually in rows, so
that elements with similar atomic
structure (and hence similar
chemical properties) appear in
vertical columns.
Who Created 1st periodic table ?
Dmitri Ivanovich
Mendeleev was a
Russian chemist and
inventor. He formulated
the Periodic Law, created
his own version of the
periodic table of
elements
How elements are arranged ?
Elements are arranged in a increasing
order of there atomic number.
Elements are arranged in Groups and
Periods.
On the left hand side there are METALS
On the right hand side there are NON-
METALS
Groups
Elements are arranged in Groups and
Periods.
Groups are seen as (12) vertical columns
Groups of number is equal to valance shell
electron.
Member of one group have same number of
valence shell electron and similar chemical
property.
Periods
Elements are arranged in Groups
and Periods.
Periods are seen as (8) horizontal rows.
Period is equal to number of shells.
Member of one period have same
number of shell.
Metals
 In periodic table metals are arranged on the left
hand side.
Examples :
 Group 1 is Alkali Metals.(lithium family)
 Group 2 is Alkaline earth metals(Beryllium
family)
Key Points :
 These are transition metals
 These are also rare metals.
Non metals
