Reflection Paper On Powerpoint
Learning about PowerPoint has been very stimulating for me; unit five has taught me a lot. I love to
use Microsoft PowerPoint, but until this unit, I did not fully understand how to use all of the functions
in Microsoft PowerPoint. I love the whole unit, so singling out three things will be hard for me. I work
as a Manager, and I am often preparing presentations. The three items in Microsoft PowerPoint that I
know I will apply to my everyday life are, Notes, Numbered list, and Charts. I think through the whole
unit these features were the ones that made me say, ok I will use that for my upcoming presentation.
Below I will explain why I chose each one of these functions. First, I chose the Notes Function. The
note section was a big deal for me. I usually write my notes down in a notebook before my
presentations. The problem I ran into was, I would always get lost. I tried putting little symbols at the
bottom of the page for talking points. The problem here was, I could never remember what the talking
point was about once I got to the symbol. When I tried Microsoft PowerPoint Notes, I found I was no
longer fumbling between papers (Carlson, 2010). I loved it because I just stood and clicked no more
papers. The Notes function allows you to put information on the slides that you want to share that the
audience cannot see (Wiley Sons Inc, 2014). Notes are now my new Favorite function of the week.
Second, The Charts function is essential and vitally important to my

Jamie Foxx Movie Essay
The movie I watched was called Ray. Ray Charles was the overall main character because this movie
was a biography based on his life. The actor who played Ray in this movie was Jamie Foxx. The stars
of the movie was Ray Charles, Margie Hendricks played by actress Regina King, and Della Bea
Robinson played by actress Kerry Washington. The movie was directed by Taylor Hackford. The
photography director was Pawel Edelman. The year of the movie was 2004. I picked this movie
because Jamie Foxx was in the movie, And I love Jamie Foxx. I also picked this movie because it had
drama and music in it. I love a good drama movie because it keep my attention. In the movie they
portrayed his physical change great showing how he changed after starting drugs. He changed
physically by scratching all the time and not being able to sit still. I also noticed he barely could get
around. An example, of his physical change was the scene where he was at work practicing his song
with the other members in his group and he was on the piano and his could not stop shaking and he
keep scratching himself. His drug problem got so bad and noticeable that his manager and the people

He was cold and not caring. He really started only thinking about himself. He started cheating on his
wife with a member in his group, not even caring that he had a wife at home. The movie showed that
he really did not make time for his children. For example, his son told him he made the allstars and
that the game was on thursday but he told his son he would not be in town and he would be on tour so
he would not be able to make it. Another example of him being cold and not caring was when he
kicked Margie and the other two women out the studio after he was just with Margie the day before
practice. He did care that he went to jail for doing drug. The reason I say this is because after he got
out his wife asked was he going to stop and he

Adapting Communicative Language Teaching Approach to...
1. Introduction
With the development of market economy, China is accelerating its steps to join the world family in
commerce and cultural partnership. With the recent accession to the WTO, the long awaited Olympic
Games in Beijing, China has made learning English a national priority. English, with its unique status,
has been taught in China for more than 100 years. Today, English is becoming more and more popular.
It is a compulsory course for all Chinese students from primary school to university.
Clearly it is relatively easy to demonstrate the importance of English in current China. This essay
intends to argue that to achieve success in English learning for Chinese students the methods of
teaching must be reconsidered. Therefore this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(2) This method rejects mother tongue in English teaching. It only sees the disadvantages of mother
tongue, but never makes use of mother tongue to facilitate students comprehension. (3) After learning
English for a long time, some students may understand simple oral English but not complicated
sentences and have poor grammar skills. (4) The class size should be small in using this method. So
this method is just suitable to teach English beginners, and cannot be fully applied in the large country
China.
2.3 Audio Lingual Approach
This English teaching method puts listening and speaking in the first place. It uses sentence pattern as
the base of teaching and tries to avoid mother tongue in class. When using this method in learning
English, students should first listen and then speak. After a long time practice, students can
automatically express what they had heard.
Because this method relies on repetition and drills, the main limitations are: (1) It over emphasizes the
mechanical practice and ignores students English skills training and learning flexibility. (2) This
method focuses too much on the language structure and ignores the meaning of the language, so
students reading and writing abilities are poor.
2.4 Communicative Language Teaching Approach (CLT)
In the early 1990s, a new English teaching method was introduced to China Communicative Language
Teaching Approach. This method emphasizes how to use language as a media to communicate.

Maya Angelou Alone
Penguins in Antarctica struggle to survive every bone chilling winter. In order to survive the winter,
they huddle together because they know they are stronger together. In humans, that is not the case.
They keep on drifting farther and farther apart from each other. The poem, Alone, by Maya Angelou
uses repetition, metaphors, and diction to emphasize her point, which is that humans cannot make it by
themselves. Angelou uses repetition emphasize that nobody can make it alone. In Alone, Angelou
repeats the phrase But nobody / Can make it out here alone to emphasize the fact that people need
more than just themselves (9 10). Angelou uses it again later to create more impact about the same
fact: But nobody / Can make it out here alone

During the allied invasion of France in WWII, American general George Patton said I would rather
have a German division in front of me, than a French division behind me . Throughout history
comparisons have been made between Germany and France, and rightly so, these two countries are the
powerhouses of Europe, very little can be accomplished on the continent without their support. France
and Germany share not only a border but common aspects of their political systems. They are both
bicameral, constitutional republics with centralized national governments. But in recent years the
French political system has become stuck in gridlock while Germany continues to move ahead and
pass legislation. The critical difference between these two countries lies in the way they organize their
parliaments and electoral systems, as well as the use of coalition governments.
The current French political system was developed in 1958, with the creation of the fifth republic,
which was introduced by Charles de Gaulle. The purpose of the new constitution of the fifth republic
was to increase the power of the president while decreasing the power of parliament. Since the
establishment of the fifth republic France has held mostly a two party system leading to many

Meerkat Manor Assignment
1. Using the Six Functions of a Family note from class, give at least two (2) specific examples from
the video that relate to each function (with the exception of production/consumption of goods and
services).
Addition of New Member The Meerkat relate to the addition of family members as they take in all
babies that are born in their horde. For example, when Flower gave birth to her babies, they took them
in. Another example is when Carlos mated with Flower s offspring. The group has a potential to bring
him in as well so that he could be a husband to Flower s offspring whom he mated with. The Meerkat
are also very territorial and so addition of new members can be rare.

Meerkat Manor: Hunter Gatherers
After watching Meerkat Manor, I believe that the group of Meerkats, called Whiskers, most resemble
the hunter gatherers. To start off, the elders within the Meerkat group would continuously hunt and
gather the food for offspring and those who cannot take of themselves anymore. Just like traditional
hunter gathers, the men would leave to gather the larger preys while the women would stay and
babysit the kids while gathering nuts, berries, herbs, and small prey which they would use to feed the
children of the group to take care and support them through their lives.
Furthermore, the hunter gatherers travel in large groups called hordes, which is what the whiskers
have been shown to do within Meerkat Manor. These large groups of Meerkat claimed land using
scent, and followed the rules that were set up the leader, who was usually a female within the hunter
gatherer society. In this case, Flower was the head of the horde as she made the rules and commands
that the group must follow. For example, when Flower s offspring became pregnant, she beat her
because she broke the rules as only Flower was allowed to get married if she wished to do

Trip To Uganda Research Paper
I am interested in traveling to Uganda because I believe that the trip will give me the opportunity to
learn, give, teach, grow, and look at the world in a completely different light. Being around those who
are less fortunate than I am will enable me to learn how different people live in different ways,
because here, in Vernon Hills, we take basic necessities for granted, like food, water, shelter, and
education. By exposing myself to a world without some of these things, I hope to learn no longer take
anything for granted. By giving them my time and exposing them to my education, I hope to expand

Ever since I took computer science honors over the summer and am in AP computer science now, I
have developed a liking in computer science and what can be done with it. I believe that this can help
us to the best of our advantage to try to help these people: I could make a website with stories,
pictures, and videos that could help convey to an audience about how impacting my trip was, and with
that, I could raise awareness and start a charity that would donate money to the people of Africa,
which they could utilize to buy basic necessities such as food, water, and shelter, and possibly further
their education. The website would be publicized through my social media accounts, and also event
programs, which brings me to my other idea. I am part of the computer science club at school and am
currently planning a coding event for younger children at our public library, and if it goes well, we
will have more events like that. I was thinking that we could could have a charity fundraiser at this

The Internet Of Information Technology
Part A:
Big data is a term to explain large complex data set, and big data is challenging the traditional data
handling method. The big data itself is useless, but after processed and analyzed the big data would
generate valuable information. This article would discuss relevant technologies and areas in the big
data age.
1. IoT:
1.1. Introduction to IoT Figure 1. In IoT things are able to connect with each other through internet.
The internet of Things (IOT) is an important part of new generation of information technology and
known as an important stage of development information age. (Ashton, 2009). As the name suggest,
IOT means the materials, objects, animals or people which are connected to the internet without

1.2. RFID and RFID system Figure 2 RFID tag is widely used in manufacturing and logistic industry
RFID is a type of automate identification and data capture technology (AIDC), which use wireless
frequency to get the related data from object, and recognize it. (Ashton, 2009). It is not necessary to
make a physical contact between objects in IoT to load data (it allows hundreds of meter to load data),
and the data can be transferred correctly and fast. (Gershenfeld, Raffi, Danny, 2004). RFID tag can be
used at many fields, such as logistic and manufacturing industry to locate and monitor the materials or
product.
In IoT, the RFID system composed of electric tag, reader, and internet, and the RFID system use
electronic tag to identify specific object, and RFID tag would exchange data through wireless
frequency. (Bonsor Wesley, 2014). The reader transmit the host computer command to RFID tag, and
convey the RFID tag s information back to the host computer. (Bonsor Wesley, 2014).
The RFID system can be divided in to three types based on its frequency, which are low frequency
system (30KHz 300KHz), high frequency RFID system (3MHz 30MHz), and microwave system.
(Rouse, 2014). The microwave system is the majorly used in the IoT, which has a frequency greater
than 300MHz and can be used to operate multiple RFID

The Importance Of Traveling
You worked really hard to get your miles and points in the bank. Don t let that potential vacation
currency go to waste. Here are some helpful tips to keep your miles from expiring.
Below the useful tips is a table with the major airline and hotel expiration deadlines.
Know The Expiration Dates
Each frequent flyer program has slightly different rules for when their miles expire. For some
international airlines, it can be up to 3 years. For most programs in the US, accounts expire after 18
months of inactivity.
This means that if you let your miles account sit for 18 months, and neither earn nor redeem a mile,
you will lose them all. And this seems to take people by surprise pretty frequently. Points Banking

But it makes sense to link your cards to a dining program, like Rewards Network. It s always a nice
surprise to get an email that you ve earned miles after eating at a random cafe in a town you ve never
been to before. This free option is worth signing up for.
Move points around
For the most part, you can t transfer points between airlines. You can also transfer points from Bank
Rewards credit cards to airlines.
If you have credit card points through American Express Membership Rewards, Chase Ultimate
Rewards, or Citi ThankYou cards, you can transfer those points to selected airline partners. Members
of the Starwood Preferred Guest program can transfer points to over a dozen different airlines. That s
the benefit of a flexible and transferable points programs.
In most cases you ll need to transfer a minimum of 1,000 points. Although Starwood Preferred Guests
Platinum members can transfer as little as one point to an airline program.
Some airlines also allow you to donate a handful of miles to charity, which can be a good option in a
pinch. You can also move miles between one person s account to another.
Keep in mind, some airlines charge a transfer fee this. Not the best option.
Buy Miles
When I was in a pinch a few years ago, I bought a 1,000 miles to keep the loyalty account active. This
was in my novice days when I was still learning. Although spending $15 to reset the clock seemed like
a good idea at the time, there are other

The Modern Hero Of Beowulf
Aaron Payne
Mr. Walter

The Modern Hero
The art of leadership... consists in consolidating the attention of the people against a single adversary
and taking care that nothing will split up that attention (Adolf Hitler). Although Adolf Hitler may have
been one of the worst men in history, he had a similar rise to power as the Geatish warrior Beowulf
did. He gained his leadership by showing up to Germany in their time of need and telling them that he
can fix their economic depression after WWII. Throughout the epic poem, Beowulf demonstrates a
leadership style that is very effective; however, it has failed many leaders and their cultures in the past,
and it is often carried on today. This also ties into Beowulf s hero model, which shows us how
drastically the idea of heros have changed throughout history.
Beowulf s charismatic leadership style is adequate for him to achieve the role he deserves over the
Danes, although it comes along with several drawbacks. Beowulf comes to power by being a
courageous figure that comes to help the Danes in their time of need. He often brags about his
courageous acts to show his greatness, we see this when he is confronted by Unferth, The fact is,
Unferth, if you were truly as keen and courageous as you claim to be Grendel would never have got
away with such unchecked atrocity, attacks on your king, havoc in Heorot and horrors everywhere
(590 594). After defeating Grendel, the Danes look to him as their invincible hero

Research Paper on Facebook Diminishing Privacy
Privacy is often defined as freedom from the observation, intrusion, or attention of others. If that was
taken away from daily life the world would become a collection of omniscient beings that walk
around with potentially harmful information about those surrounding them. Stalking would be
unnecessary because the internet would do all for the work for us. Social networking sites are creating
many such concerns. One of the most widely known social networking sites is Facebook. When
reviewing Facebook s privacy policy, you may want to keep in mind that an examination of Facebook

All you have to do to understand some of the implications of such a situation is assume that your
friend has a parent or family member as their friend. That family member can now see where your
friend is, who they re with, and what they re doing. This is usually a less than desirable occurrence.
Another popular feature is the ability to upload photos. Users share four Billion pieces of content per
day, including uploads of 250million photos (Wilson). When you add a picture to your Facebook you
re given the ability to tag your friends in it. This presents the same privacy issues as tagging a friend in
your status. Some may even consider being tagged in a picture to be worse than being tagged in a
status. As they say, a picture speaks a thousand words, and most of us don t think about what
implications those words may have on our friends before tagging them in seemingly harmless photos.
Besides your friends and possible risqué activities being displayed in your pictures, your location may
be obvious. Deriving your location based on your surroundings may be harder than looking at a
location check in, but it is far from impossible, especially with motivation. If someone is determined
to invade your privacy they ll be able to do just that. Often looked past is the email constraint that

Aristotle And Socrates
To answer the question, I will be comparing Pericles s, Aristotle s and Socrates s thoughts about
whether to think ourselves as friends or as strangers. Pericles and Aristotle conceptualize political
communities largely as associations of friends. Pericles believes that participation in democracy, is in
a way allows Athenians to become great warriors, to develop friendship and to have communal
beliefs. Friendship and community are integral to democracy. Pericles said, a man who is private has
no business in Athens. The idea of Democracy is that citizens get the opportunities to participate in
state affairs and help to make certain decisions. Athens is a democratic city, they give equal rights and
opportunities to their citizens to participate in political matters and let their citizens voice be heard. If
you are Athenian citizen, you are very lucky individuals. Socrates on the other hand, conceptualizes
political communities largely as associations of strangers. Socrates believes that it is better to think

If they allow others who are not citizens to get involved in the political matters and have a total

Ancient Egypt and Ancient Sumer The history of Ancient Egypt is divided into three broad periods:
Old Kingdom (2649 2152 BCE), Middle Kingdom (2040 1640 BCE), and New Kingdom (1550 1070

source of prosperity available because it provided them with generous agricultural advantages. Due to
the extent of the river, Egyptians were also able to find other resources like timber and gold. Since this

Glorifying the Age of Reason
THE AGE OF REASON The age of reason is a period in time in which the idea of reasoning things
out was glorified. This period is also known as The Enlightenment , it started around the mid 1600 s
and ended at around the end of the 1700 s. Never before had questioning things and acquiring
solutions for ourselves as individuals been so popular. This age resulted in major advancements in
mathematics, science, even in political views and other subjects. This period is a concoction of
different minds that contributed towards the creation of various new ideas, some which were radical
for its time. There are two guys that are considered to be the fathers of The Enlightenment, they were
Francis Bacon and Rene Descartes. Francis Bacon believed that he could free the ignorant mind of
plebs with science, and with science they would be able to become more productive and also live
better lives. But to discard of ignorance that was so widespread at his time is not easy, so he had to
come up with a way for people to figure things out. These two really set up the method for everyone
else to figure things out and this method is known as the Scientific Method. Isaac Newton, another
great thinker/mathematician/physicist of The Enlightenment took the ideas of Francis Bacon and Rene
Descartes and took them beyond imagination. He created a branch of math called calculus and also the
laws of gravity and the laws of motion. Other subjects prospered around this time as well such as

poverty, and according to author and poverty expert Betsey Piette, across the U.S. one in five children

actual, hungry children who do not know when their next meal will arrive. Advocates against poverty
explain that when children are hungry, they most likely will not go to school or they may repeat a
grade. Starving children cannot focus on their school work. According to a website dedicated to
poverty in Philadelphia, in the School District of Philadelphia, at least 30 percent of the students are
low income. In the least poor school, Greenberg, the rate (of low income students) is 44 percent (

Philadelphia public schools receive free or reduced lunches. Life is difficult for underprivileged
families when they cannot buy lunches for their children, let alone feed themselves. No one wants to
live in poverty, and parents do not want to see their children suffer.

Women s Rights And Gender Equality Essay
At first glance, the words feminism, veganism, and locavorism may induce many different thoughts
and images. One might think of a celebrity, a stereotype, a character trait, or a group of specifically
similar people associated with each word. For some, these three words may not even bring anything or
anyone significant to mind. But no matter what thoughts arise through them, all three of these words
represent an ideology, and two of them commonly have to do with diet. Feminism, or the advocacy of
women s rights and gender equality, and veganism, or the lifestyle and diet of avoiding animal
products, are widely known and decently popular. However, locavorism, which is the lifestyle and diet
of purchasing and eating locally and sustainably grown food in order to help the environment and be
healthy, is more of a modern concept that was not always relevant or present in American society. In
fact, it only became popular in the past decade (Rudy, 2012, p. 27).
Nonetheless, the point still stands that feminism, veganism, and locavorism may not seem to have any
connections aside from the fact that they are indeed all ideologies and they share a suffix. However,
when observed on a deeper level, it is discovered that the widely held feminist views of gender and
socioeconomic equality coincide with the views of vegans that also focus on equality for beings
thought to be inferior. Even further, feminist views pertaining to the equitable distribution of food and
positive treatment of

Sartre and Brooks Literary Critiques: Analysis of Memory and Time in Faulkner s The Sound and the
Fury
History is the witness that testifies to the passing of time. Cicero presaged the study of historical
memory and conceptions of time, which assumes that what and how we remember molds our past into
something more than a chronological succession of events. Ever more appreciative of the subjectivity
of recollection, we grasp that without memory, time passes away as little more than sterile chronology.
In literary as well as literal history, time derives its meaning from Bergson s duration time as personal
consciousness (322). In Faulkner s fiction, duration is a centerpiece, even as chronology fails. Such is
the case in The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sartre argues convincingly that the future does not exist for the Compsons; there is only a continued
renewal of the present. The present is riddled with gaps through which things of the past . . . invade it.
Thus past and present are collapsed into one, where the present moves along in the shadow . . . and
reappears only when it itself is past (266 67). History for Faulkner s characters is composed of
emotional constellations which define the past in terms of resurfacing personal experience. Thus, there
is no perspective other than of the heart, and the past becomes an obsession (268).
Certainly this is true of Quentin, but I think Sartre could use this well turned analysis toward a fresh
interpretation of Jason, whom most critics cast as totally unconcerned with the past (assuming, I
believe, that the past for all the Compsons is, like Quentin s, driven by honor). In fact, memory
compels Jason as powerfully as it does Quentin. An obsessive quest to make up for the time lost to
broken promises fuels his existence. His hatred of Miss Quentin and his theft from her is not just real
time animosity or miserliness, but a manifestation of his continually growing resentment of Caddy,
whom he blames for all his troubles. Every cruelty, every dollar allows him to claim what he feels
would have been his. When Quentin steals Jason s money, she lays waste to his investment in getting
even. With Quentin, Caddy and the money gone,

Progressive Era Reform Essay
Through the years 1890 and 1920, many changes occurred. This time was called the Progressive Era,
and during the time period, there were new political and social changes. New laws that the public
wanted were enforced, and new opportunities came to a rise. Many of the changes that took place
affected a lot of people. During the progressive era, many political and social changes took place.
Some political changes that took place were the recall, direct election of senators, referendum, and the
initiative just to name a few. The recall was a process by which people may vote to remove an elected
official from office. This reform helped get rid of corrupt officials. Another political reform was the

Some of the social changes were women s rights, conservation, and minority groups fighting against
discrimination. Women s rights was a big thing back then. Women started entering higher professions
and becoming doctors and lawyers. They fought to protect women and children. They also raised
money for libraries, schools, and parks. In 1919, women got the right to vote after working hard for
several years. Conservation was really important back then and still is to this day. Conservation means
the protection of natural resources. Roosevelt loved the outdoors and worried about the destruction of
the wilderness, so he pressed for conservation. Roosevelt also had thousands of acres of land set aside
for national parks, which is a natural area protected and managed by the federal government. Minority
groups fighting against discrimination was also a social change that occurred in the progressive era.
Some of these minority groups were Mexican Americans, African Americans, Jewish Americans,
Asian Americans, and Catholics. The NAACP worked for equal rights for African Americans.
Mexican Americans formed mutualists, or mutual aid groups who helped each other. Catholics were
looked down upon and because of discrimination, the set up their own schools called parochial
schools, or schools sponsored by a church. Many of these minority groups just wanted to be treated
equally and not be judged. Those are some social changes that took place in the progressive

The History Of Geographic Information Systems ( Gis )
Introduction:
Recent research on interpolation of climatological and meteorological information with the support of
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) has shown that interpolation has a large development potential
within climatology and meteorology. At the same time the demand for interpolated data products are
increasing, numerical weather models are working at higher spatial resolutions and may be initiated by
gridded data from observations. Interpolation is a method of getting new data from some known data
points. In India, many weather data is from official departments and there are many weather sites, but
in some areas it is difficult to obtain weather data, so we will use interpolation methods to get climate
data of that areas. Interpolation can be defined as the estimation of an unknown value of the variable,
at some point where no measurement is available, where the estimate is made using known
measurements obtained at a set of sample locations. With the advent of Geographic Information
Systems (GIS), numerous spatial interpolation methods have been applied to create continuous
surfaces of climate variables at various spatial (watershed, regional, and global) and temporal (hourly,
daily, monthly, seasonal, and annual) scales. The prediction of weather condition is essential for
various applications. Like weather prediction, soil moisture, climate data monitoring, rainfall,
population prediction, agriculture, image processing etc. Regression model, Feed Forward

Essay On Miss Brill By Marjane Satrapi And Katherine...
All great authors and even average authors for that fact are influenced by events that happen in their
lives. Having personal experiences to the authors allows a piece of writing to have more personality in
my opinion because it isn t just something that is made up but is passed on real facts. Marjane Satrapi
and Katherine Mansfield are both well known authors and they use events in their life to help write
their stories. Marjane Satrapi wrote the graphic novel Persepolis and Katherine Mansfield wrote the
story Miss Brill, both authors wrote more stories but these two pieces of writings are what I will focus
a little more on. While Marjane Satrapi and Katherine Mansfield had events in their lives which

Her life is influenced by this story because it is all about what it was like for her being a young adult
and living in Iran with limitations for women. In her story it says The guardians of the revolution had
been added to arrest women who were improperly veiled. (Satrapi 151) Satrapi wants her story to shed
a light of the negative thoughts that people have for her country Iran because they can not fully
understand till they live there (Marjane Satrapi Biography). Marjane s stories have a lot of references
to important topics but in a way that will be appealing to her readers. With Katherine s story Miss Brill
it seemed to me that she used the character in the story to represent her life because the character was
becoming ill just like how she had Tuberculosis. In the story it says What has been happening to me?
(Mansfield 135) and in this part of the story it is being shown how Miss Brill builds a fantasy life that
way she does not have to face the truth about what is actually going on. Katherine s story was
basically about herself but Marjane s story was about her whole life and the problems with the country

Summary Of The Poem To A Mouse
In the poem To a Mouse by Robert Burns, the little mouse plans to build a home but gets destroyed by
the farmer with the plow. Similarly, in the novel Of Mice and Men by Steinbeck, George, and Lennie s
dream of owning a farm gets destroyed by Curley. In the poem To a Mouse by Burns, the speaker
writes an apology to the mouse for the way it gets treated by humans. The speaker describes the
mouse as a sleek, tiny, timorous, cowering beast that is running away from humans. He tells the mouse
that he does not need to run away from him. He says to the mouse, why dash away, so quick, so rash,
in a frenzied flash when I would be loath to run after you . The speaker means no harm but the mouse
s first instinct is to run when he sees humans because he expects to get chased by humans. The
speaker understands the reasons for the mouse sometimes stealing food. The narrator says I have no
doubt you sometimes shiver; What of it, friend? You too must live! He knows that the mouse must
find a way to get food, so it can survive. The little mouse had a home built to keep warm but the
farmer with the plow unintentionally destroyed its home. When apologizing to the mouse the speaker
says Your tiny house lies in a ruin, its fragile walls and rent and strewn! Now nothing s left to build
you a new one of mosses green. The mouse plans to have a home for winter gets destroyed. The
farmer destroying the mouse s home shows that dreams and plans can be destroyed by something or
someone.

Class Officer Research Paper
Class Officer Paper In my eyes, the role of class officer is honorable because of the bravery it takes to
step out from the majority and try to take a leadership role in not only a school environment, but also
in a community environment. After my freshman year as freshman class president, I now realize what
traits the role requires a person to have, and what traits you will obtain while in the role. I acquired the
position to begin with because I am very social, participate in class, and I enjoy challenging myself in
school. As class president, I have gotten better at speaking in front of crowds, I have gained better
problem solving skills, and I have learned how to be a good leader in and out of school. Being elected

Wanting the role, however, is not all that it takes to get it. I believe I should be class officer because I
have experience in the role since I was freshman class president this previous year. In that role, I
assisted with all homecoming preparation and helped organize the freshman and sophomore coat drive
that year. Moreover, I wish to continue finding out more about the people in my class, and start

Maple Syrup Urine Disease Analysis

Maple Syrup Urine disease
Maple syrup urine disease (MSUD) is a rare genetic disorder characterized by deficiency of certain
enzymes (branched chain alpha keto acid dehydrogenase complex) required to break down
(metabolize) specific amino acids in the body.(WebMD, 2015)
History
MSUD was first brought up by a pediatrician by John Menkes in 1954. He first noticed it by observing
a family that happened to have several cases of MSUD. In the study he had lost four babies within
three months. Physicians and biochemists both worked as a pair to define this inborn error of
metabolism. In history these problems in nature acted as a tool for investors as a genetic tool to tell us
unknown pathways and why MSUD is used as this role for BCAA(in ... Show more content on

The odor is caused when someone is not able to metabolize the branched chain a ketoacid (BCKA).
This problem happens because of their branch chain amino acids (BCAA); leucine, isoleucine, and
valine.
Other Problems Associated With Maple Syrup Urine Disease(Diet) Leucine is not a good acid to to
have while having MSUD, but it is a necessary amino acid that you need to have. It is the most toxic
of the BCAA and it is in foods in higher percentages than valine or isoleucine. Every patient is
different so their tolerance of leucine has to be calculated to follow the measurement of BCAA levels.
Then it has to be remeasured at the correct intervals for the first six to 12 months. (Diet.com, 2004)
Risk Factors The National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD) says that MSUD happens to
males and females at the same rate. The risk of having any form of MSUD depends if your parents
have this disorder or not. If both of the parents have the disorder, each child has a 25 percent chance of
getting two mutated genes and getting MSUD, the child would have a 50 percent chance from getting
one normal gene from each parent. The parent or parents are not able to pass on the gene to their
children if they have two normal genes for MSUD. (Healthline,

The Waste Of Waste Management Centres
As our global population continues on a steady rise so does our product consumption, which naturally
leads to an increase in waste production. The vast amount of waste that we are manufacturing
ultimately lands up in our oceans, lakes, rivers, alley ways, backyards and parks creating what are
known as garbage towns. This would introduce health risks to individuals and the community as a
whole. These risks could also include exposure to dangerous chemicals that poses detrimental effects
on the environment. To avoid this from happening governments have created landfills. Landfills are a
place to dispose of refuse and other waste material by burying it and covering it over with soil,
especially as a method of filling in or extending usable land. (Webster Dictionary). In an even more
extravagant attempt to keep waste material out of the streets and non biodegradable products out of
the ground and keeping organic material together governments have added recycling and composting
plants to landfills to make waste management centres. In waste management centres they may separate
the material there and transport it to its respective plant, or have the respective plants built in. We
researched the effects and consequences of constructing and operating a landfill in the north west area,
there are various benefits and drawbacks of said waste management centre. After weighing the pros
and cons based on our specific region, we decided to accept the idea of a landfill operating in our

Present sales of the Paramount in razor industry come to $170 million and Paramount Pro contributes
to this significantly. By introducing Clean Edge in the mainstream sector a 60% fall in the sales of Pro
is predicted and the revenue generated by it will come down to $68 million. But it is expected that
clean edge will generate a revenue of $147.8 million* and in turn Paramount can achieve a net sales of
$215.8 million. Marketing cost is approximated to $42 million and Paramount will be able to generate
a profit of $173.8 million. If they had positioned it in the niche segment they would lose only 35%
sales of Pro. But at the same time, due to the constraints in the market clean edge can raise sales of
only $52.8 million and the net sales will total to $163.3 million. Here the marketing cost is
approximated to $15 million and the revenue generated will amount to $148.3 million. Thus the
figures clearly indicate that concentrating the mainstream would be more beneficial. Also Paramount
will be able to achieve a profit margin of $3.09 per unit even after providing distributors a margin of
$3.36 per unit.

Paramount Clean Razor because this helps customers relate with the brand and would be easier for it

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Family Interventions for Psychosis
Psychosocial treatments for schizophrenia are not new in the research literature. Psychological
treatments have been previously used in the treatment of schizophrenia. For example in terms of
behaviour therapy, operant approaches such as token economy programmes were used in the 1960s
and 1970s to improve the behaviour of patients in long stay hospitals. However, the evidence suggests
that the clinical gains were limited and did not generalise beyond the therapeutic setting and also did
not address delusional convictions (Alford 1986; Himadi et al 1991). Other psychological treatments

These interventions are also beneficial to relatives, and are effective in improving the quality of the
family environment (Penn Mueser 1996). Psychosocial interventions are aimed at empowering
patients, and, as Slade Haddock (1996) have pointed out, since the 1980s, the task of the therapist was
no longer to change the behaviour of the patient but rather to help the client to change their own
behaviour, if they wish to do so .
This chapter provides an overview of family interventions and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)
for psychotic symptoms. There has been a lot of research and clinical interest in the effectiveness of
CBT for patients with psychosis. Unfortunately, the provision of family interventions in routine
services has been disappointing, despite vigorous training programmes. Notwithstanding some notable
exceptions in the UK, such as Bath (Smith Velleman, 2002) and Somerset (Stanbridge et al, 2003),
increasing the availability of family work remains a challenge for most service providers.
The aim is not to provide a comprehensive academic review of family interventions and CBT for
serious mental illness. Instead, it is to give the reader an overview of the state of research and
developments of recent research studies. This chapter also tries to condense the available

abortion as the ending of pregnancy by removing a fetus or embryo from the womb before it can

Step 3: KNEADING THE DOUGH To begin kneading, you must lightly sprinkle flour on a wooden

Step 4: FERMENTING THE DOUGH Once the dough has been kneaded, it is time to allow the yeast
in the bread to rise. First, settle the dough in the original mixing bowl that is lightly spread with flour.
Tapping the dough with lightly buttered fingers is not necessary, but will prevent the dough s surface
from drying up. With a dry towel, cover the bowl and place the it in a warm area around 80 85oF for 1
hour. The dough should be twice its original size once finished rising. A tip to check if the dough has
risen is to poke one finger into the dough. If the dent stays, the dough has properly risen.
Step 5: SHAPING AND SECOND RISING With the dough

The Production Of Flashlights By 50 % ( $ 2 ) Essay
Introduction
The supplier of the company has increased the price of an important component (LED Bulb) in
the production of flashlights by 50% ($2). The company has already tried to look for solutions
such as changing the supplier or finding a replacement of the part but it has been unsuccessful
because it has an agreement with the supplier and would need the specific part to produce the
product. The challenge faced now by the company is to absorb the costs bared and find a solution
to earn profits from the available amount of products.
Effects of Cost Increase
The cost has increased by a significant amount and this would decrease the company s raw material
purchases, sales volume, production and profit:
ï‚· The raw material purchases would be affected as with the same amount of money used in
purchasing the materials, less number of raw materials could be purchased, for example: if we
the material cost per unit is $4 and we purchase raw materials of $1,000,000, we can produce
250,000 units (1,000,000/4). Whereas if the material cost increases to $6, we would only be able
to produce 166,666 units (1,000,000/6) with the same amount of investment in raw materials.
ï‚· The production capacity would be affected as there would be less amount of raw materials
available with the same amount of investment as the current quarter.
ï‚· The sales volume would decrease because the production would be less as it is directly affected
by the raw materials purchased.
ï‚· The

Health Insurance Claims
In order to process health insurance claims there are two standard forms. The CMS 1500 Claim Form,
this billing method is used for physician and supplier services (ex: specialists, dentists,
ophthalmologists, durable medical equipment) and the CMS 1450 Claim Form (UB 04), used by
hospitals, rehabilitation centers, clinics, and ambulatory surgery centers to process both inpatient and
outpatient services (ex: medical expenses [bed pans/pads], x rays). Over many years updates were
made for each form with numerous changes being made, so any old forms should be discarded to
prevent denial of a claim. Both forms are used for Medicare, Medicaid, and many commercial third
party payer claims. Paper claim forms are still in use today on the brink of

Copper Life Cycle Essay
Copper is a metal that has been used by humans essentially since the beginning of existence as it is
said to be only the second metal used by man after gold. Therefore, copper production has been an
important part of life for thousands or years and still is today. The copper cycle is an important
because it provides a basis for how copper can be recovered from various compounds that it exists in
during its so called life cycle . The life cycle of copper conserves this now scarce metal by allowing
the recovery of the pure substance at any point through experimental means. While copper is much
more, scare in earths natural environment today it is still an incredibly important product. Copper is
used in manufacturing wiring for electricity as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Reaction one was an exothermic reaction. This was determined simply because when nitric acid was
mixed with the copper wire a significant amount of heat was given off to the surroundings, therefore
the reaction had to be exothermic. Reaction two was exothermic as well. This was determined because
precipitation reactions are always exothermic as the formation of a solid is a decrease in entropy so
delta S is negative which means that enthalpy would be negative, therefore it is an exothermic
reaction. Reaction three is an endothermic reaction. This was determined simply because a
decomposition reaction is carried out through the addition of energy, usually heat to break down a
compound, therefore the addition of heat to carry out to the reaction means it has to be endothermic.
Reaction four was exothermic. This was determined because it was an acid base neutralization
reaction. Acid base neutralization reactions are always exothermic as they release heat from the
system to the surroundings. Reaction five was endothermic. This was determined because the reaction
sped up when heated. The reduction of Copper Sulfate to Copper occurred at room temperate when
Hydrochloric Acid and Aluminum were combined. However, when the beaker was put on a hot plate
the reaction occurred noticeably faster therefore indicating that it

Native American Conflicts
On the summer days of June 25 26, 1876 the Battle of the Little Bighorn took place in the
southeastern area of the Montana territory. The battlefield is very close to the Little Bighorn River
itself, in what is now present day Big Horn County, Montana. The adversaries in this battle were the
U.S. Army s 7th Cavalry, commanded by General George A. Custer against the Indian tribes of the
Northern Cheyenne, Lakota Sioux, and Arapaho under the leadership of Sitting Bull. Several years
after the Civil War had ended, the U.S. army began to focus it s attention to arising conflicts with
Indian tribes in the plains regions. These conflicts were the result of settlers beginning to migrate
further out west, mainly in search of more land and gold. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Frederick Chiaventone s book, A Road We Do Not Know, Bloody Knife says to Custer, I shall not
see you go down behind the mountains tonight. Good hunting to you, old friend. You and I are both
going home tonight by a road we do not know. Later on the morning of June 25, 1867 Custer had
gotten wind that the opposing Indians had spotted him and that he had potentially lost the element of
surprise. He was concerned that the indians would pack up and get away if he waited any longer.
Rapidly, he gathered his forces and began his approach to the village to attack in the broad daylight.
He did this without being able to see the village yet due to their concealment in the mountains. At this
time, General George A. Custer s 7th Cavalry force was comprised of three battalions with four
companies, totaling 647 Cavalry troopers. Each battalion had their own commander: Custer himself,
Major Marcus Reno, and Captain Frederick Benteen. All of these leaders had served in the Civil War
and were known for being superior commanders in the field with impressive victories. Captain
Benteen was the only one out of his counterparts to not attend West Point. Their troops were also
mostly combat veterans. Many served in the Civil War and had been fighting in the Sioux Wars for a
while. The troops were in good spirits, because they knew that there was a chance of fighting soon.
But, at the same time, they were tired from their long trek.

Modern Approach For Liability Of The State, And Public...
The overarching guidelines to the modern approach to liability for negligence in tort go back to
Donoghue v Stevenson [1932] with Lord Atkin setting out the neighbour principle, such that one has a
duty to take reasonable care to avoid acts or omissions which one can reasonably foresee would be
likely to injure a neighbour (one who I ought reasonably have in contemplation as sufficiently close
and directly affected by one s act and omissions). However, the development of the common law
approach to liability of the state, and public authorities, for harms inflicted by third parties for whom
the state is not responsible, can be seen to be restricted, both in the interpretation of required proximity
of the party so harmed, and on the basis of public policy . The current position with reference to public
policy restrictions can be found in Gorringe v Caldedale MBC [2004], the judgement on which gave a
significant review of the state of the law. In this case, Mrs Gorringe was injured following a collision
between her car and a bus; she contested that the local authority s statutory duty in terms of highway
maintenance created a corresponding actionable common law duty. This claim failed at both the Court
of Appeal and House of Lords, with key rulings that: if a statutory duty does not give rise to a private
right to sue for breach, then the duty cannot create a duty of care that would not have been owed at
common law if the statute were not there. Lord Scott said that

Generally Accepted Auditing Standards Generally Accepted Auditing Standards or GAAS is a set of
systematic guidelines used by auditors when conducting audits on companies finances, ensuring the
accuracy, consistency and verifiability of auditors actions and reports (Lexico Publishing Group,
2008). The following paper will explain the elements of GAAS and how GAAS is applied to audits.
GAAS has three elements that must be used during every audit. They are general standards, standards
of field work, and standards of reporting. Each of the three standards has their own set of rules that
must be complied with during every audit. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are three main types of audits, financial, operational, and compliance. First a financial statement
audit involves obtaining and evaluating evidence about an entity s presentation of its financial
position, results of operations, and cash flows for the purpose of expressing an opinion on whether
they are presented fairly in conformity with established criteria (Boynton Johnson, 2006). Next an
operational audit involves obtaining and evaluating evidence about the efficiency and effectiveness of
an entity s operating activities in relation to specified objectives (Boynton Johnson, 2006). Last a
compliance audit involves obtaining and evaluating evidence to determine whether certain financial or
operating activities of an entity conform to specified conditions, rules, or regulations (Boynton
Johnson, 2006). The standards of GAAS apply to all three types of audits in more ways than one. First
the general standards must all be adhered before any auditor can perform an audit in any entity. The
standards of field work also must be followed while in the entity performing the audit. When reporting
the results of the audit the standards of reporting must be followed. The Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002
changed the world of auditing in many ways. The act put provisions into place that an auditor can no
longer perform certain services. It also placed increased penalties on managers of public companies
who try to report incorrect data

The Death Of Prison Riots
Prison Riots
To first understand what causes a prison riot one must comprehend the definition. A riot occurs when a
substantial number of inmates control a major portion of the prison for a significant period of time.
Riots greatly differ from a disturbance or incident, which in most cases, are on a much smaller scale
with the inmates having little or no control of the prison. Most would contend that riots or
disturbances are not well organized when in fact, it is the prisons own disorganization and basic lack
of concern for their inmates, that normally lead to the unrest (Barnhart, 2010). The inmate population
has more that quintupled in the last 30 years while unrest has slightly decreased. The decrease is
attributed to several reasons; court rulings defining livings conditions, in most prisons, as cruel and
unusual punishment; better training for correctional staff; and the emergence of (CERT) Correctional
Emergency Response Teams (Bernstein, 2013). Legitimacy of prison riots have one fundamental
issue. The riots are not normally caused by one or two inmates with minor complaints, but are in large
part due to the conditions and or treatment of the mass population of those inmates. The inmates just
want to be treated fairly, consistently and with a little human decency (Kupchik, 2005, p.10). To fully
understand the scope of prison riots we must first understand how these riots have evolved over the
last 20 plus years. In 1971, a prison riot broke out

Communicative Language Teaching Essay
Introduction
Communication is an essential tool in our daily life, an aspect that has led to the continuous demand
for learning and teaching of the English language that is widely spoken in the world. It has led to the
development of interest in most people to have the desire to enhance their capacity to the use of the
language, so as to have a good command of the semantic (Gupta, 2004). However, there are different
approaches through which people learn the language that include the formal and informal tactics. The
increased interest to learn English has led to the demand for an effective and efficient approach to
teaching the subject as will be discussed in the above paper. There is need to produce students who
can accurately and fluently communicate as required by the employers and the society in general.
Communicative language teaching, (CLT) has existed since the 1970s and has played a significant role
in the instruction and learning of language (Richards, 2006). Although there are new approaches to
English teaching, it is important to appreciate the fact that CLT still plays an essential role in the
language use and learning. The purpose of the above paper is to give evidence of the relevance of CLT

one must need to understand correct grammatical use in a sentence. Language has various syntax rules
that are adhered to by the approach for the appropriate construction of sentences and utterance of the

The Use of Distortion as a Literary Device in George...
Animal Farm, by George Orwell, is an excellent example of distortion as a literary device. The story is
set up as a fable using a third person objective viewpoint and personification of animals to represent
historical figures and stereotypes. Distortion can also be found in much of the symbolism throughout
the novel. Similar to a fable, Animal Farm makes use of personification. In the story, farm animals are
used to represent different classes of people, from the average working man to government officials
and police or military personnel. This element of the novel goes deeper, when the pigs on the farm
begin to resemble historical figures such as Joseph Stalin and Leon Trotsky, of Russia. Through
distortion of character, Orwell brings ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This brings the reader to the level of the working class animals and instills a sense of uncertainty and
disillusionment that is felt by most of the characters in the story. In the beginning, the animals are
excited by Major s talk of rebellion against Mr. Jones and through Orwell s objective point of view,
the same feeling of insurrection is passed on to the audience. As the pigs weave an intricate web of
lies and scandal, the reader gets the sense that not all is well in the same way the animals do. The
difference between the animals and ourselves lies in intelligence. The author deliberately makes the
characters dumber than the average person, allowing us to see through the deception of the pigs,
without the use of a third person omniscient viewpoint. Symbolically, Animal Farm itself is supposed
to represent Russia and the Soviet Union under Communist control. The farm in today s world, being
a small, self sustaining entity may relate to current conditions in North Korea. It seems that Kim Jong
il, like the pigs, is much more equal than his subjects. Kim and Napoleon seem to share the paranoia
of being attacked by more powerful rivals, and both it seems, have a desire to keep their respective
nations in the dark. Perhaps less specifically, the farm could represent human society as a whole. As
mentioned earlier, the characters display an entire spectrum of human classes and stereotypical
personalities.
The way the pigs altered the seven commandments

Ishtar becomes furious and tells his father who has more power than her to release the bull of heaven
to earth to kill Gilgamesh and his people. The bull of heaven kills more than two hundred people and
then, Enkidu, Gilgamesh s best friend, and Gilgamesh himself kills the bull of heaven. But, as soon as
they killed the bull of heaven, the gods decide that Enkidu must die for helping Gilgamesh killing it.
Eventually, Enkidu dies and Gilgamesh feels miserable because he realizes that he is actually a mortal.
Gilgamesh should not have had insulted Ishtar because she is a god, able to make many of his people
suffer. He should have had first thought of his kingdom s wellbeing, instead of just thinking about
himself. He could had rejected her by being more courteous to her, instead of being a jerk. Kings and
leaders should know how to effectively communicate to others. Gilgamesh could had prevented his
people and Enkidu s death, only if he would had think rationally about the consequences that his
actions have on himself and others. Moreover, today s current events demonstrate a correlation
between how leaders make decisions and treat a woman. Charlie Rose, a television journalist and host,
is accused for sexual arrestment, as well as Kevin Spacey, an actor, director, and producer. Both public

  • 2. Reflection Paper On Powerpoint Learning about PowerPoint has been very stimulating for me; unit five has taught me a lot. I love to use Microsoft PowerPoint, but until this unit, I did not fully understand how to use all of the functions in Microsoft PowerPoint. I love the whole unit, so singling out three things will be hard for me. I work as a Manager, and I am often preparing presentations. The three items in Microsoft PowerPoint that I know I will apply to my everyday life are, Notes, Numbered list, and Charts. I think through the whole unit these features were the ones that made me say, ok I will use that for my upcoming presentation. Below I will explain why I chose each one of these functions. First, I chose the Notes Function. The note section was a big deal for me. I usually write my notes down in a notebook before my presentations. The problem I ran into was, I would always get lost. I tried putting little symbols at the bottom of the page for talking points. The problem here was, I could never remember what the talking point was about once I got to the symbol. When I tried Microsoft PowerPoint Notes, I found I was no longer fumbling between papers (Carlson, 2010). I loved it because I just stood and clicked no more papers. The Notes function allows you to put information on the slides that you want to share that the audience cannot see (Wiley Sons Inc, 2014). Notes are now my new Favorite function of the week. Second, The Charts function is essential and vitally important to my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The actor who played Ray in this movie was Jamie Foxx. The stars of the movie was Ray Charles, Margie Hendricks played by actress Regina King, and Della Bea Robinson played by actress Kerry Washington. The movie was directed by Taylor Hackford. The photography director was Pawel Edelman. The year of the movie was 2004. I picked this movie because Jamie Foxx was in the movie, And I love Jamie Foxx. I also picked this movie because it had drama and music in it. I love a good drama movie because it keep my attention. In the movie they portrayed his physical change great showing how he changed after starting drugs. He changed physically by scratching all the time and not being able to sit still. I also noticed he barely could get around. An example, of his physical change was the scene where he was at work practicing his song with the other members in his group and he was on the piano and his could not stop shaking and he keep scratching himself. For example, his son told him he made the allstars and that the game was on thursday but he told his son he would not be in town and he would be on tour so he would not be able to make it. Another example of him being cold and not caring was when he kicked Margie and the other two women out the studio after he was just with Margie the day before practice. He did care that he went to jail for doing drug. The reason I say this is because after he got out his wife asked was he going to stop and he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Introduction With the development of market economy, China is accelerating its steps to join the world family in commerce and cultural partnership. With the recent accession to the WTO, the long awaited Olympic Games in Beijing, China has made learning English a national priority. English, with its unique status, has been taught in China for more than 100 years. Today, English is becoming more and more popular. It is a compulsory course for all Chinese students from primary school to university. Clearly it is relatively easy to demonstrate the importance of English in current China. This essay intends to argue that to achieve success in English learning for Chinese students the methods of teaching must be reconsidered. Therefore this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (2) This method rejects mother tongue in English teaching. It only sees the disadvantages of mother tongue, but never makes use of mother tongue to facilitate students comprehension. (3) After learning English for a long time, some students may understand simple oral English but not complicated sentences and have poor grammar skills. (4) The class size should be small in using this method. So this method is just suitable to teach English beginners, and cannot be fully applied in the large country China. 2.3 Audio Lingual Approach This English teaching method puts listening and speaking in the first place. It uses sentence pattern as the base of teaching and tries to avoid mother tongue in class. When using this method in learning English, students should first listen and then speak. After a long time practice, students can automatically express what they had heard. Because this method relies on repetition and drills, the main limitations are: (1) It over emphasizes the mechanical practice and ignores students English skills training and learning flexibility. (2) This method focuses too much on the language structure and ignores the meaning of the language, so students reading and writing abilities are poor. 2.4 Communicative Language Teaching Approach (CLT) In the early 1990s, a new English teaching method was introduced to China Communicative Language Teaching Approach. This method emphasizes how to use language as a media to communicate. Teachers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In humans, that is not the case. They keep on drifting farther and farther apart from each other. The poem, Alone, by Maya Angelou uses repetition, metaphors, and diction to emphasize her point, which is that humans cannot make it by themselves. Angelou uses repetition emphasize that nobody can make it alone. In Alone, Angelou repeats the phrase But nobody / Can make it out here alone to emphasize the fact that people need more than just themselves (9 10). French And German Comparative Politics University of Toronto French and German Comparative Politics Daniel Mendes November 10, 2014 POL 207Y Professor Mathias Albert TA: Michael Pelz Session: Wednesday 9 10 Student ID: 1000433122 MLA citation style During the allied invasion of France in WWII, American general George Patton said I would rather have a German division in front of me, than a French division behind me . Throughout history comparisons have been made between Germany and France, and rightly so, these two countries are the powerhouses of Europe, very little can be accomplished on the continent without their support. France and Germany share not only a border but common aspects of their political systems. They are both bicameral, constitutional republics with centralized national governments. But in recent years the French political system has become stuck in gridlock while Germany continues to move ahead and pass legislation. The critical difference between these two countries lies in the way they organize their parliaments and electoral systems, as well as the use of coalition governments. The current French political system was developed in 1958, with the creation of the fifth republic, which was introduced by Charles de Gaulle. The purpose of the new constitution of the fifth republic was to increase the power of the president while decreasing the power of parliament. Since the establishment of the fifth republic France has held mostly a two party system leading to many majority ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Just like traditional hunter gathers, the men would leave to gather the larger preys while the women would stay and babysit the kids while gathering nuts, berries, herbs, and small prey which they would use to feed the children of the group to take care and support them through their lives. Furthermore, the hunter gatherers travel in large groups called hordes, which is what the whiskers have been shown to do within Meerkat Manor. These large groups of Meerkat claimed land using scent, and followed the rules that were set up the leader, who was usually a female within the hunter gatherer society. The website would be publicized through my social media accounts, and also event programs, which brings me to my other idea. I am part of the computer science club at school and am currently planning a coding event for younger children at our public library, and if it goes well, we will have more events like that. I was thinking that we could could have a charity fundraiser at this computer science event, where all the funds would go directly to our sister school in Africa. For most programs in the US, accounts expire after 18 months of inactivity. • 12. The Modern Hero Of Beowulf Aaron Payne Mr. Walter English IV September 28 The Modern Hero The art of leadership... consists in consolidating the attention of the people against a single adversary and taking care that nothing will split up that attention (Adolf Hitler). Although Adolf Hitler may have been one of the worst men in history, he had a similar rise to power as the Geatish warrior Beowulf did. He gained his leadership by showing up to Germany in their time of need and telling them that he can fix their economic depression after WWII. Throughout the epic poem, Beowulf demonstrates a leadership style that is very effective; however, it has failed many leaders and their cultures in the past, and it is often carried on today. This also ties into Beowulf s hero model, which shows us how drastically the idea of heros have changed throughout history. Beowulf s charismatic leadership style is adequate for him to achieve the role he deserves over the Danes, although it comes along with several drawbacks. Beowulf comes to power by being a courageous figure that comes to help the Danes in their time of need. He often brags about his courageous acts to show his greatness, we see this when he is confronted by Unferth, The fact is, Unferth, if you were truly as keen and courageous as you claim to be Grendel would never have got away with such unchecked atrocity, attacks on your king, havoc in Heorot and horrors everywhere (590 594). One of the most widely known social networking sites is Facebook. Another popular feature is the ability to upload photos. Users share four Billion pieces of content per day, including uploads of 250million photos (Wilson). When you add a picture to your Facebook you re given the ability to tag your friends in it. This presents the same privacy issues as tagging a friend in your status. Some may even consider being tagged in a picture to be worse than being tagged in a status. As they say, a picture speaks a thousand words, and most of us don t think about what implications those words may have on our friends before tagging them in seemingly harmless photos. Besides your friends and possible risqué activities being displayed in your pictures, your location may be obvious. Pericles believes that participation in democracy, is in a way allows Athenians to become great warriors, to develop friendship and to have communal beliefs. Friendship and community are integral to democracy. Pericles said, a man who is private has no business in Athens. The idea of Democracy is that citizens get the opportunities to participate in state affairs and help to make certain decisions. Athens is a democratic city, they give equal rights and opportunities to their citizens to participate in political matters and let their citizens voice be heard. • 16. Glorifying the Age of Reason THE AGE OF REASON The age of reason is a period in time in which the idea of reasoning things out was glorified. This period is also known as The Enlightenment , it started around the mid 1600 s and ended at around the end of the 1700 s. Never before had questioning things and acquiring solutions for ourselves as individuals been so popular. This age resulted in major advancements in mathematics, science, even in political views and other subjects. This period is a concoction of different minds that contributed towards the creation of various new ideas, some which were radical for its time. There are two guys that are considered to be the fathers of The Enlightenment, they were Francis Bacon and Rene Descartes. Francis Bacon believed that he could free the ignorant mind of plebs with science, and with science they would be able to become more productive and also live better lives. But to discard of ignorance that was so widespread at his time is not easy, so he had to come up with a way for people to figure things out. These two really set up the method for everyone else to figure things out and this method is known as the Scientific Method. Isaac Newton, another great thinker/mathematician/physicist of The Enlightenment took the ideas of Francis Bacon and Rene Descartes and took them beyond imagination. For some, these three words may not even bring anything or anyone significant to mind. But no matter what thoughts arise through them, all three of these words represent an ideology, and two of them commonly have to do with diet. Feminism, or the advocacy of women s rights and gender equality, and veganism, or the lifestyle and diet of avoiding animal products, are widely known and decently popular. However, locavorism, which is the lifestyle and diet of purchasing and eating locally and sustainably grown food in order to help the environment and be healthy, is more of a modern concept that was not always relevant or present in American society. In fact, it only became popular in the past decade (Rudy, 2012, p. 27). Nonetheless, the point still stands that feminism, veganism, and locavorism may not seem to have any connections aside from the fact that they are indeed all ideologies and they share a suffix. Sartre and Brooks Literary Critiques: Analysis of Memory and Time in Faulkner s The Sound and the Fury History is the witness that testifies to the passing of time. Cicero presaged the study of historical memory and conceptions of time, which assumes that what and how we remember molds our past into something more than a chronological succession of events. Ever more appreciative of the subjectivity of recollection, we grasp that without memory, time passes away as little more than sterile chronology. In literary as well as literal history, time derives its meaning from Bergson s duration time as personal consciousness (322). In Faulkner s fiction, duration is a centerpiece, even as chronology fails. Such is the case in The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sartre argues convincingly that the future does not exist for the Compsons; there is only a continued renewal of the present. The present is riddled with gaps through which things of the past . . . invade it. Thus past and present are collapsed into one, where the present moves along in the shadow . . . and reappears only when it itself is past (266 67). History for Faulkner s characters is composed of emotional constellations which define the past in terms of resurfacing personal experience. Thus, there is no perspective other than of the heart, and the past becomes an obsession (268). Certainly this is true of Quentin, but I think Sartre could use this well turned analysis toward a fresh interpretation of Jason, whom most critics cast as totally unconcerned with the past (assuming, I believe, that the past for all the Compsons is, like Quentin s, driven by honor). In fact, memory compels Jason as powerfully as it does Quentin. An obsessive quest to make up for the time lost to broken promises fuels his existence. His hatred of Miss Quentin and his theft from her is not just real time animosity or miserliness, but a manifestation of his continually growing resentment of Caddy, whom he blames for all his troubles. Every cruelty, every dollar allows him to claim what he feels would have been his. When Quentin steals Jason s money, she lays waste to his investment in getting even. At the same time the demand for interpolated data products are increasing, numerical weather models are working at higher spatial resolutions and may be initiated by gridded data from observations. Interpolation is a method of getting new data from some known data points. In India, many weather data is from official departments and there are many weather sites, but in some areas it is difficult to obtain weather data, so we will use interpolation methods to get climate data of that areas. Interpolation can be defined as the estimation of an unknown value of the variable, at some point where no measurement is available, where the estimate is made using known measurements obtained at a set of sample locations. With the advent of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), numerous spatial interpolation methods have been applied to create continuous surfaces of climate variables at various spatial (watershed, regional, and global) and temporal (hourly, daily, monthly, seasonal, and annual) scales. He knows that the mouse must find a way to get food, so it can survive. The little mouse had a home built to keep warm but the farmer with the plow unintentionally destroyed its home. Of course, we do not see the hurricane that comes much later we simply see a butterfly going about its business. How can a butterfly accomplish such a monumental feat and could a human do it too? Well, as with all actions, it requires energy. In a recent commercial by Chevron, it is implied that oil is the source of energy for human doers. Filled with images of patriotism, inventions, and all the wonders of mankind s advancement, Chevron shows all the positive accomplishments doers can do. What it does not show, however, is the resulting hurricane. What could possibly be more thought invoking than the first lunar landing and growth of America? Chevron has had little involvement with these accomplishments, yet by filling their commercial with these images, it would seem as though they too were a part of America in the making. Reaction three is an endothermic reaction. This was determined simply because a decomposition reaction is carried out through the addition of energy, usually heat to break down a compound, therefore the addition of heat to carry out to the reaction means it has to be endothermic. Reaction four was exothermic. This was determined because it was an acid base neutralization reaction. Acid base neutralization reactions are always exothermic as they release heat from the system to the surroundings. Reaction five was endothermic. • 48. Modern Approach For Liability Of The State, And Public... The overarching guidelines to the modern approach to liability for negligence in tort go back to Donoghue v Stevenson [1932] with Lord Atkin setting out the neighbour principle, such that one has a duty to take reasonable care to avoid acts or omissions which one can reasonably foresee would be likely to injure a neighbour (one who I ought reasonably have in contemplation as sufficiently close and directly affected by one s act and omissions). However, the development of the common law approach to liability of the state, and public authorities, for harms inflicted by third parties for whom the state is not responsible, can be seen to be restricted, both in the interpretation of required proximity of the party so harmed, and on the basis of public policy . The current position with reference to public policy restrictions can be found in Gorringe v Caldedale MBC [2004], the judgement on which gave a significant review of the state of the law. In this case, Mrs Gorringe was injured following a collision between her car and a bus; she contested that the local authority s statutory duty in terms of highway maintenance created a corresponding actionable common law duty. This claim failed at both the Court of Appeal and House of Lords, with key rulings that: if a statutory duty does not give rise to a private right to sue for breach, then the duty cannot create a duty of care that would not have been owed at common law if the statute were not there. The following paper will explain the elements of GAAS and how GAAS is applied to audits. GAAS has three elements that must be used during every audit. They are general standards, standards of field work, and standards of reporting. Each of the three standards has their own set of rules that must be complied with during every audit. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are three main types of audits, financial, operational, and compliance. First a financial statement audit involves obtaining and evaluating evidence about an entity s presentation of its financial position, results of operations, and cash flows for the purpose of expressing an opinion on whether they are presented fairly in conformity with established criteria (Boynton Johnson, 2006). Next an operational audit involves obtaining and evaluating evidence about the efficiency and effectiveness of an entity s operating activities in relation to specified objectives (Boynton Johnson, 2006). Last a compliance audit involves obtaining and evaluating evidence to determine whether certain financial or operating activities of an entity conform to specified conditions, rules, or regulations (Boynton Johnson, 2006). The standards of GAAS apply to all three types of audits in more ways than one. First the general standards must all be adhered before any auditor can perform an audit in any entity. The standards of field work also must be followed while in the entity performing the audit. When reporting the results of the audit the standards of reporting must be followed. • 50. The Death Of Prison Riots Prison Riots To first understand what causes a prison riot one must comprehend the definition. A riot occurs when a substantial number of inmates control a major portion of the prison for a significant period of time. Riots greatly differ from a disturbance or incident, which in most cases, are on a much smaller scale with the inmates having little or no control of the prison. Most would contend that riots or disturbances are not well organized when in fact, it is the prisons own disorganization and basic lack of concern for their inmates, that normally lead to the unrest (Barnhart, 2010). The inmate population has more that quintupled in the last 30 years while unrest has slightly decreased. The decrease is attributed to several reasons; court rulings defining livings conditions, in most prisons, as cruel and unusual punishment; better training for correctional staff; and the emergence of (CERT) Correctional Emergency Response Teams (Bernstein, 2013). Legitimacy of prison riots have one fundamental issue. The riots are not normally caused by one or two inmates with minor complaints, but are in large part due to the conditions and or treatment of the mass population of those inmates. The inmates just want to be treated fairly, consistently and with a little human decency (Kupchik, 2005, p.10). To fully understand the scope of prison riots we must first understand how these riots have evolved over the last 20 plus years. In 1971, a prison riot broke out ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 52. The Use of Distortion as a Literary Device in George... Animal Farm, by George Orwell, is an excellent example of distortion as a literary device. The story is set up as a fable using a third person objective viewpoint and personification of animals to represent historical figures and stereotypes. Distortion can also be found in much of the symbolism throughout the novel. Similar to a fable, Animal Farm makes use of personification. In the story, farm animals are used to represent different classes of people, from the average working man to government officials and police or military personnel. This element of the novel goes deeper, when the pigs on the farm begin to resemble historical figures such as Joseph Stalin and Leon Trotsky, of Russia. This brings the reader to the level of the working class animals and instills a sense of uncertainty and disillusionment that is felt by most of the characters in the story. As the pigs weave an intricate web of lies and scandal, the reader gets the sense that not all is well in the same way the animals do. The difference between the animals and ourselves lies in intelligence. The author deliberately makes the characters dumber than the average person, allowing us to see through the deception of the pigs, without the use of a third person omniscient viewpoint. Symbolically, Animal Farm itself is supposed to represent Russia and the Soviet Union under Communist control. The farm in today s world, being a small, self sustaining entity may relate to current conditions in North Korea. It seems that Kim Jong il, like the pigs, is much more equal than his subjects. Kim and Napoleon seem to share the paranoia of being attacked by more powerful rivals, and both it seems, have a desire to keep their respective nations in the dark.
