Why Is English A Mandatory Language
English is a Western Germanic language and was first spoken in England and now known as the
global lingua franca. If there were one language that could have a chance of being considered as
universal, it would be definitely English. This is because it has become the world s language for
technology, commerce, and also empowerment. The internet is also a proof of it because most parts of
the internet were written in English. Internet is also used in communicating with people overseas and
some countries are forced to learn the said language. Anyone will be quite speechless if they
discovered a land without anyone who knows English. However, making English as a mandatory
language can affect many people. It could break up culture and will cause in the lack of variety. People
often talk about English as a global language or lingua franca with more than three hundred fifty
million people around the world speaking English as a first language and more than four hundred
thirty million speaking it as a second language. On the other hand, two billion people is the expected
number of who will study English, and will increase up to three billion in ... Show more content on

Analysis Of The Book Bitter Watters
Bitter Watters was a book over the author s experiences under Stalin s Soviet Union. Andreev
Khomiakov (the author) talks about his everyday life during the years of 1935 to 1941. From the point
of being imprisoned in a labor camp in till he has to leave Moscow because of World War II. In the
book Andreev Khomiakov talks about how the Stalin system works daily, and expresses his own
opinions about it. He explains how controlled he and his coworkers are by the Soviets. This primary
source is helpful to feel what it was like under Stalin s Soviet Union. After reading Bitter Watters, I
have realized Stalin s totalitarian was an actual thing. Using the words from Andreev Khomiakov
himself, you will see how Stalin s regime was totalitarian. By giving a summary of a section and then
dissecting it with facts will help explain the argument. That Stalin s Soviet Union was a totalitarian
run country during his rule. First we need to briefly go over the beginning of the book to understand
the books direction. The book starts out with Andreev Khomiakov explaining his thought process of
being released from the labor camp. What he would do when he was released. He thought he was
ready for the outside world in till he was released. Immediately realizing he learned everything in the
labor camp and felt lost. I walked through the gates and past the last
guard, experiencing no happiness or sense of uplift . (pg.3) Andreev Khomiakov was put on a train

Examples Of Sentences
Just how do we start that perfect sentence? It can be a tough decision. Sentence beginnings are like
first impressions, and we want to make sure they re right. And while there s no single correct way to
start a sentence, we need to vary them to ensure our writing doesn t get stale or boring.
So, what makes a bad sentence beginning anyway? Are there rules? Well, no, but let s look at some
examples of how repeated simple sentence openings can become stilted and tough to read. For
example:
John went to the store. Anthony went with him. They bought food and drinks. They bought flowers for
John s mother. The man at the cash register smiled at them and gave them a discount. They returned
home and put away the groceries.
What do all these sentence beginnings have in common? As we can see, each one consists of a noun
followed by a verb. Unfortunately, these simple sentences quickly become boring, decreasing the
impact of our writing. Let s see what happens when we vary them a bit. ... Show more content on

Smiling, the man at the cash register gave them a discount. Returning home, the two put the groceries
away.
See how much better this flows? Here, we ve left the simple noun verb structure for the first sentence,
but, in the second, we ve used smiling as a participial or transitional word. And in the third, we ve
emphasized the action of returning home, rather than the two boys.
Let s look at some other ways to rearrange simple sentence beginnings (e.g. common noun verb
constructions) and add some variety to our work. Remember, our goal here is not only to minimize the
use of simple sentence openings it s to become better writers!

Essay on Traditional Shinto Modern Japanese Business
The nation of Japan, even more so than other countries, has a long, long history behind it. It s a
country dating back as far as the B.C. Era, and that has experienced various powerful events that has
shaped the country since its birth. As with other nations, an important part of their past lies in their
religion. Before they were introduced to Buddhism and other outside religions, which had a large
impact on their society, the Japanese followed something known as Shinto. As the one religion that
can truly be called Japanese, it follows that its influences would still remain in the eyes of the people
and only aided by a traditionally xenophobic view of the world. Now, in modern Japan, the role of
fundamental religion has, for the most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the key aspects of Shinto, and an aspect that made it somewhat difficult for me to study in a
more isolated context, is the flexibility of it. Unlike the Abrahamic religions, there is no strict religious
doctrine or meticulous set of rules that governs the practitioners. Instead, it s much more a conceptual
idea that carries with it various commonalities, specifically in terms of practices and a very nature
based system of deities (Religions of the World). Although, despite Japan s more isolated society, they
did share certain ideas with other Eastern religions, such as a focus on the cosmos and harmony with
nature and others (Return of the Gods). This led to an interesting dynamic when other Asian religions
and philosophies made their way into Japan. While there might have been a certain amount of
abrasiveness between Shinto and the others at first, the nature of the religion allowed a unique
blending that isn t to often scene between the unique (or semi unique) religions of multiple countries.
The three most prominent influences came from Chinese Confucianism and Taoism, and Indian
Buddhism. Buddhism in particular had the most influence on their religion, becoming a near
inseparable part of it (Religions of the World). This only supports the notion that religion is more of an
idea than what most of us in the west would typically consider religion. Even before industrialization,
Japanese people don t really consider themselves

Fidel Castro
Fidel Castro s Influence on the Cuban Revolution, 1953 1959
The year was 1953 and Fidel Castro was a dashing and daring reformer that was determined to make a
impact in a country that was ruled by an unjust president. With the Movement strong and confident,
Castro delivered these strong words to his group of men:
In a few hours you will be victorious or defeated, but regardless of the outcome listen well, friends
this Movement will triumph. If you win tomorrow, the aspirations of Martí will be fulfilled sooner. If
we fail, our action will nevertheless set an example for the Cuban people, and from the people will
arise fresh new men willing to die for Cuba. They will pick up our banner and move forward... The
people will back us in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With no one willing to hear his case, Castro then would realized that his legal arguments would not be
effective in his attempts to stop the government led by Batista. Castro needed to achieve his goal
through other means, even force if necessary as exemplified by the uprisings in the Caribbean. His
alternate approach to achieving his goal was to organize a group of underground rebels who would aid
him in his fight against the oppressive rule of Batista. Castro began to draw followers to his cause
through his personality, which compelled many people to join him in his fight against Batista. This
gathering of followers would culminate with the 26th of July Movement, which in Cuba is called
Movimiento 26 de Julio, which is used to commemorate the beginnings of the Cuban Revolution
which was led by Fidel Castro. The Cuban Revolution s conclusion would result in the overthrowing
of the dictatorship of Batista, but the movement itself began with a failure. On July 26th, 1953, Fidel
Castro led an attack against Fulgencio Batista in the Moncada Barracks. Castro, his brother Raul and a
group of 160 armed men would attack the Barracks, which was the second largest military base in
Cuba. Based on the fact that the military base was enormous and Castro s men were far outnumbered
in this attack, there was almost no chance that this attack would have succeeded. The outcome of this
attack would be sixty of Castro s men being killed, along with him and his brother being captured

Racing Drones
Speed and Efficiency
When it comes to drones, no two flights are the same. From variable wind speeds and air density to
propeller count and battery output, each time you head out to the flight field, get ready to experience a
new snowflake. Depending on the type of flying you re planning on doing and the type of speeds you
re looking to achieve, there needs to be some consideration into the gear your drone will be running. A
racing drone needs different props than a videography drone. Heavy drones need more thrust to get up
and stay off the ground, while other, lighter designs require less, which means some variation in the
LiPo used. Drones meant for surveying need to be efficient at low speeds, optimizing their amount of
time spent airborne. For racing drones, overall efficiency at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

If you ve ever been outside, you know that air flows in a somewhat chaotic and unpredictable way,
even if its overall tendencies are well understood. This means that wings and propellers need to be
tested in wind tunnels in order to get a precise set of efficiency values. In layman s terms, we can say
that the efficiency of a propeller varies depending on how fast air is traveling over the propeller versus
how fast the tips of the propellers are spinning. In aeronautics and marine hydrodynamics, this ratio is
called the advance ratio . {include image like

Child Labour Around the World
Child Labor lingers among all
Introduction Child labor has been an enormous issue lingering amongst our world today, but yet
people d not realize that it is still occurring more often in developing countries. Throughout the last
few decades, child labor has been declining in many countries. However, more than 250 million
children between the ages of 5 and 14 are still working ( Child labor around, 2013). Some sort of child
labor exists in each country due to weak economic structure and lack of regulations. These children
are often forced to work under hazardous conditions, which can be identified as child labor ( Child
labor around, 2013). Many of these children s childhood are taken away from them as well as an
opportunity to gain an education. They lose the opportunity to understand what it is like to have a
normal childhood. Children in poverty end up with no choice but to work under extremely hazardous
conditions. Children are often viewed as cheap labor which leads to corporations taking advantage of
child labor to look for an opportunity of increasing their profits. Corporations often have overseas
subcontractors that use child labor as a method of maximizing profits ( Child labor around, 2013).
Child labor often occurs to the poverty trap cycle , which means children lacking an education lead
towards the work path. The poverty trap cycle is classified as a cause and effect; the first step of
eliminating child labor is elimination of poverty. The concept

The Language Of Pantun
Garner the rice crop at its height,
Lest it be withered ere the morn,
Look well on me whilst in your sight,
Don t lovelorn be at tomorrow s dawn.
How beautiful are the words, immersing us in its tender embrace! The above stanza is known as
pantun, a traditional Malay form of expression. From the records in historical books such as Sulalatus
Salatin and Hikayat Hang Tuah, it is believed that pantun has been around since as early as the 15th
century. It is usually construed spontaneously and presented orally, passed down from one generation
to the next. Pantun is a reflection of the finesse of the Malay civilization; to understand the Malays,
one needs to understand pantun, as therein reigns the grace, knowledge, sharp thought process and

Pantun can be in the forms of couplets, quatrains or sextets. However, the most common version is in
quatrains, as illustrated above. The parallels and assonance produce a wonderful symphony as the
lines end on a pattern of a b a b. To retain the rhyme, the lines shall only consist between 8 to 12
syllables. The subject matter of pantun are diverse. The most common ones are on the theme of
culture, advice, love, jokes, puzzles, journeys and adventures, manners and religious matters. The
language plays with hints and the actual message; the allusions in the first two lines often depict the
beauty of nature. The remaining two lines then explains the intended meaning of the allusion above,
which is the musings of life.

Commercial Growers Case Study
How to become a licensed commercial marijuana grower in Canada?
Canada is aesthetically pleasing nation with low population density and high standard organization
capability. It is with such qualities the country takes responsibility of the well being and health of
every individual, be it an immigrant or a resident. Major countries criticize Canada about their
conflicting stand on the legality of particular hemp Marijuana. Canadian government always aware of
the potential advantages and risks of such controversial substances made sure by their laws that these
kinds of drugs should be supplemented for medical purposes only. The government itself through
Health Canada provide license to the interested commercial growers.

The procedure for attaining license starts with a simple process of filling the application. But the
criterion that must be fulfilled is not that simple and needs serious involvement and commitment. A lot
of confusion arises and this can be overcome by approaching reputed agencies of marijuana medical
consulting in Canada like www.growlegally.ca.
Medical marijuana license consulting agencies like that mentioned above help their customers in the
following way:
 Medical marijuana consultants refer the client to Health Canada s laboratories which test and certify
the future product if the client is given a license. After getting license and cultivating cannabis, the
quality of the product has to meet the requirement according to the standards set by these laboratories;
hence it is essential for the client to know before hand what lays ahead.
 Most clients are unaware of certain divisions of the application; this will lead to improper filling
and rejection. MMPR consultants make sure that the application is properly filled and there is no case
of rejection.
 Agencies of medical marijuana consulting in Canada also make sure that their customers follow all
the standard operating procedures

The Four Types Of Operant Conditioning
Operant conditioning is a type of learning which occurs through either receiving reinforcement or
punishment for a behavior. This type of learning creates an association between a behavior and
consequence for that behavior. The four types of operant conditioning are positive reinforcement,
positive punishment, negative reinforcement, and negative punishment. If operant conditioning was
used properly it could be used to solve a variety of social and resource dilemmas; especially in the
case of the cattle ranchers and overgrazing.
Positive reinforcement is when a positive stimulus is added in hopes of increasing a behavior. This
could be that the ranchers are actually paid for not using the common land whose quality has begun to
deteriorate. By paying ranchers to use either their own land, or pay to use a different land, it would
give the common land pasture time to get in better condition. Also if you paid ranchers to only use
their own land, not only would the common land pasture increase in quality, but the rancher s land
would most likely stay in good condition because that land belongs to the racher. A huge problem with
the tragedy of the commons is that people abuse common resources because no one has ownership
over them; they are nonexcludable but rival, so everyone s use of those resources quickly depletes the
supply of it.
Negative reinforcement is when an aversive stimulus is taken away in order to increase behavior. If
the ranchers were already receiving annual

Rhetorical Strategies In Selling Gender Specific Products
These days a lot of products have become gender specific. However, occasionally these products are
the exact same and work the exact same but with different branding. This a very prevalent today and it
only helps to perpetuate the stereotype that men and women are not equal. This inequality does not
help to develop our society. That being said, sometimes there is a legitimate need for gender specific
products. Typically, these products can be placed in the broad category of health care . Health care
products include everyday products like hair products, perfumes and deodorants. It can be observed
that deodorants are probably one of the most used products in a highly developed society. Many

Domestic Abuse And Domestic Violence
I chose to do the domestic survivors subculture I feel as if it was a great topic to focus on its going to
reveal a lot of emotion. Domestic violence can happen to anyone. Domestic violence sometimes called
battering is against the law. At first glance, it is hard to imagine why a victim of domestic violence
would voluntarily remain in the relationship with the abuser. As you may know domestic violence
doesn t always start off as violence it starts off as in the form of love. The abuser feels as if they love
the person so much that it hurts. That the abuse they inflict on the person they love is because they
love and care about them. Many victims feel as if no one will believe them. There has been so many
cases that have gone unanswered because no one really knows what goes on. The person being abused
hides what the abuser does because they think it is something they did wrong or they think the person
loves them. Domestic abuse comes in different forms it can be verbal, physical, or sexual. Domestic
abuse leaves psychological scars from anxiety due to living in ongoing danger. In my essay you will
get to know a lot of women that have survived domestic abuse and their stories.

Environmental And Genetic Traits Of Criminals
In order to analyze the environmental and genetic traits behind criminals. It is very important to
understand the theories that describe the major features of delinquents and the reasons of why certain
persons engage criminal acts. The environmental and genetic are striking factors and they merit
rigorous examination. To begin with, it is very remarkable to know that there are several reasons of
crime and it takes different forms of how people commit it. However, it is extremely important to
define criminal behavior in order to begin. According to Hollin (1992) criminal behavior can be
defined as an act that violates criminal law and may therefore be followed by criminal proceedings
and attract the appropriate punishment (p.10). Early Theorists

Joseph Stalin and USSR Under the leadership of Josef Stalin, U.R.S.S. has become fast an
industrialized state, and having won the Second World War, a super power. In the same time, though,
Stalin s tyranny has brought the ruin of the Russian society. Even before the death of the Soviet ruler

II. Unhealthy eating and physical inactivity are the leading causes of death in the U.S. according to the

III. Americans are stuck in their sedentary lifestyles; people just do not know or have the courage and

V. One other solution is to make a sedentary lifestyle change, but that takes courage and a strong

Primitiveness And Savagery In Joseph Conrad s Heart Of...
In Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness , Conrad uses the depictions of the natives as Marlow goes
down the river to portray how human nature is with different levels of power. He uses color imagery
to correlate the darkskin of the natives to the name of the continent the natives live on, the Dark
Continent . He portrays Africa, or the Dark Continent to be a place of primitiveness and savagery. The
nature of the natives are primitive and savage too. In the same way, he aides the superficial meanings
of his description with words that have negative connotations to further his depiction of the natives as
primitive and savage.
In the beginning when Marlow arrives at the Outer Station, Conrad uses the dead and dying natives to
represent what human nature should be and sometimes is on the outside. They were dying slowly it
was very clear. They were not enemies, they were not criminals, they were nothing earthly now
nothing but black shadows of disease and starvation, lying confusedly in the greenish gloom (Conrad
19). They lack power. Conrad intentionally portrays them as powerless because without power, they
aren t a threat. He relates this to the primal feelings of man. Given that the Outer Station is a
representation of how people should be on the surface, Conrad represents the natives as the inner
savages. The natives are dead and dying because the inner savage is dead or dying in society. We have
constructed a society in which the inner savages, aka the natives, have no

One of the first skyscrapers built in New York City was the World Building, which many people know

The S. Paul Building stood at 315 feet tall. The architect and engineer for this building was George B.
Post, the same man who put up the World Building. This building was located on Broadway, and Ann

least attractive design of all the New York skyscrapers. Just one year after the St. Paul Building was
opened; the Park Row building was opened on Ann Street and Park Row. The construction of this
building started in 1896, and this building took only three years to complete. In the 1890 s advances in
steel frame construction opened up new opportunities for developers. Before steel frame construction,
buildings with more than eight stories had to have very thick lower floors for support. We have to
accredit the steel construction of this building to R.H. Robertson. Mr. Robertson said that when he was
drawing up the plans for this building he wanted to make it look smaller what it actually was. This
building is 391 feet tall and it was the tallest building in New York City in 1899, before the Park Row

The bomb caused many slow moving fires throughout the city, some of which soon encroached upon
the park. The fire pushed the wounded toward the riverbank, which became overcrowded, causing
many of those that could be saved to drown. This was only one example of what was seen that day by
the survivors. Eventually, Miss Sasaki was rescued from the factory in which she became trapped, but
was then left under a makeshift shack for days on end before being rescued again. With a broken and
gangrenous leg, Sasaki survives after finally being taken to a hospital. Whatever the survivors of the
bombing of the city of Hiroshima experienced, the thing they share is survival.
The six survivors all were changed in some way after the bombing of Hiroshima. At the end of his
book, Hersey adds a chapter that details what happened to each survivor in the months and years after
the day the bomb was dropped. Mrs. Nakamura ends up suffering from radiation poisoning after the
fact, but ends up eventually getting a decent job and lives well off. Mrs. Nakamura epitomizes the
Japanese idea of Shikata ga nai , which translates roughly into English as It can t be helped . She does
not display much emotion during the events because there s nothing she can do to affect what is
happening to her. Dr. Sasaki ends up leaving the hospital he had worked at during the time before the
bomb was dropped. This could be because of the amount of suffering he saw

Aristotle s Views On Politics
Politics is a political philosophical work by Aristotle, a fourth century Greek Philosopher, logician and
scientist. Along with his teacher Plato, Aristotle is considered as one of the most influential ancient
thinkers of political theory in western civilization. Therefore, it is important to understand the gist of
his work Politics from our perspective. Influenced by Plato s Republic and Laws, Politics presents
synthesis of lifetime political thoughts and observations. The philosopher attempts to answer many
questions such as; the relation between states and people, harnessing the best life style of citizens, best
education, type of constituents, democracy, inequality and slavery. These are crucial topics in present
world politics as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Becoming biased towards Greek, he supports slavery. Aristotle relates citizenship with holding of
public office and administration of justice. According to him, those are citizens whose parents were
also citizens. This depicts Aristotle being conservative philosopher of Greece where citizenship was
given to only privileged class. He opposed the idea of citizenship to foreigners, slaves and women.
According to him, the latter group of people don t have moral and intellectual skills to hold public
offices.
One of the remarkable issues in Politics is about good citizen and good men. According to the work,
good citizen and good men are different things. Good citizen knows how to rule and how to obey. A
good man is one who is suitable to rule. But a good citizen knows how to rule abiding by the
rule. Therefore, for Aristotle, citizenship was a matter of moral training as well.
Another important aspect of Politics is its explanation about constitutions. There are 6 types of
constitutions. Among them, three are just and three are unjust. A constitution becomes just when it
benefits all in the city states while the same becomes unjust if it benefits the ruler only. He considers
the mix of democracy and oligarchy will allow the best constitution.
In Books IV to VI, Aristotle moves towards the practical examination of political institutions. He
found the differences between needs of city states due to differences in wealth , population distribution

The Deadly Diet Of Eating Disorders
Eating disorders are sweeping this country and are rampant on junior high, high school, and college
campuses. These disorders are often referred to as the Deadly Diet, but are often known by their more
popular names: anorexia or bulimia. They affect more than 20% of females between the age of
thirteen and forty. It is very rare for a young female not to know of someone with an eating disorder.
Statistics show that at least one in five young women have a serious problem with eating and weight
(Bruch, 25). The Deadly Diet appears to be a mostly female problem. Eating disorders are most
common in the middle to upper middle class families. Currently, the incidence is much lower in
females from the blue collar families. The Deadly Diet can begin anywhere from the ages of ten to
thirty. The peak age for the beginning of the Deadly Diet in females is eleven to fifteen; the peak for
males is between fifteen and eighteen (Bauer, 89). Most of the information on the Deadly Diet says
that it is a problem of teenage girls, but as clinics have found, most of the people who come to get
therapy are in their twenties and thirties. This may be because younger people are less likely to seek
professional help. Most often it is the parent who brings the patient for help. Adults who have left
home and had to deal with managing their lives usually tend to realize more clearly the need to seek
help and make changes. Everywhere one looks today, one will notice that our culture places a very

Edvard Munch s Painting, The Scream
Edvard Munch was a Norwegian painter born in 1863. He was known for his pre expressionist
painting The Scream. Munch had a psychological themed style in his artworks. Edvard Munch had
struggled with agoraphobia and drinking. Agoraphobia is an anxiety disorder where in situations the
sufferer perceives certain environments as dangerous or uncomfortable, usually due to the areas vast
openness or crowdedness. It is easy to say that Munch struggled with insanity during his lifetime.
Munch is portraying an actual experience of a scream piercing through nature while on a walk, after
his two companions, seen in the background, had left him. He does this with his use of color, line, and
organization. The painting is all warm colors. He uses warm colors to convey emotions. The warm
colors can be seen as either excitement or anger. In this case the colors are used to convey the idea of
anger. The figure in the painting seems to be in agony or distressed about something. Munch uses

From the colors and lines, to the bridge and figures. Munch uses the bridge to represent an island of
sanity. The physical transition failed to straighten out his life and troubles, unlike the other two
figures, who appear to be heading towards better things, leaving the figure alone and distressed. The
colors in the scream are symbols for the mood or feelings the figure is experiencing. Munch used
certain colors to catch the audiences attention and to show a hidden meaning. The grey, blues, and
blacks symbolize the depression and sadness that the figure is experiencing. The warmer colors: reds,
oranges, and yellows symbolize the anger and frustration the figure is going through. Munch swirled
the warm colors around the figure to show his anger flowing through him. They seem to be resting on
his shoulders. This anger and frustration is causing him to

Federal Agencies Essay
In the early years of the United States the government was able to function and operate all of its affairs
rather easily. This would change as more and more technology was invented and the industry rapidly
grew throughout the nation. In the early
1800 s services provided by the government were limited to
the areas of defense, foreign affairs, mail service, commerce between the colonies and money. These
few service with the exception of national defense required only a few thousand government

A Multinational Company ( Mnc )
A multinational company (MNC) is a business that operates beyond its geographical boundaries of its
country of origin by opening branches or dealing with associates in more than one country. In other
words, it is a company that engages in foreign direct investment (FDI). MNCs organize processes of
manufacturing and delivering of goods and services to market in various countries, using their
production firms either locally or abroad. To be able to operate in other countries, a company must be
registered in these individual countries. The headquarters of multinationals are usually in the country

Carrying out an environmental analysis can help determine the viability of investment. The elements
that need to be analyzed in such a probable country include political, economical, social,
technological, environmental and legal, which are popularly referred to as PESTEL analysis (Sexton
Vlasto, 2012). Besides, the company must evaluate its internal analysis in the lens of the new market
by carrying out a SWOT analysis to establish its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. The
reasons why companies chose to become multinational corporations vary. Even before carrying out
market analysis, the reason is always there. Establishing the right country to invest, can go a long way
in expanding the business in the future markets. However, some ventures fail, but that does not mean
that the business cannot still do well in other alternative markets (Sexton Vlasto, 2012). All in all,
there are different reasons which push companies to go into the global market, otherwise known
multinational companies. The reasons are discussed below. Firstly, first mover benefit refers to the
venturing into a new market and getting all the advantages of being the first to operate in that market
in particular products or services. A firm may consider going global in an effort to tap untapped
market for its products or services. According to Biggs (2011), a business that enters into a market as
the first operator not only benefits from increased sales and profits, but also the

Effects Of Corruption On Women
Through the analysis of the different aspects of corruption at different levels of society, it can be
argued that the differential treatment of women and their lack of empowerment (2) is the cause of the
greater effect that corrupt systems have on women (1). 1. The impact of corruption on women: the
greater effect of corrupt systems on women Because corrupt systems cause women to suffer from
gender specific forms of corruption (a) and difficulties in accessing public services (b), women seem
to be disproportionately affected by corruption. a. The women specific practices of corruption While
research often focus on the different probability to pay bribes for men and women, a strong emphasis
should be placed on how men and women are differently impacted by corruption. As an abuse of
entrusted power in exchange for a private gain, corruption seems to accentuate those differences,
especially when it takes gender specific forms. Those are disproportionately experienced by women
when the currency for bribes is of a sexual nature. For instance, sexual extortion, or sextortion, is
defined as the situation where sexual favors are used as a currency for corrupt practices. This
manifestation of extortion can involve diverse types of sexual assault against women, from sexual
harassment to forced sex. When inflicted by public officials in exchange for the performance of a duty,
it seem to fall within the definition of abuse of power and influence of the UNCAC, yet sexual
extortion is

Reluctant Fundamentalist
US immigration is a major component of The Reluctant Fundamentalist, and contributes greatly to the
plot as well. Hamid s use of US immigration affects the plot of the story as it connects to the theme of
identity, through the use of ashamed tone as well as precise diction. First of all, the use of ashamed
tone demonstrates how US immigration is associated with the theme of identity. For example, as
Changez rides in a limousine with his colleagues, he spots a Filipino driver: There was an undisguised
hostility in his expression; I had no idea why ... But his dislike was so obvious, so intimate, that it got
under my skin. I stared back at him, getting angry at myself. (67). The words hostility and dislike

For instance, as Changez arrives at Manila with Underwood Samson, he states: Perhaps it was for this
reason that I did something in Manila I had never done before: I attempted to act and speak, as much
as my dignity would permit, more like an American. Even though Changez is a US immigrant, it is
suggested that he still acted in a Pakistani behavior, as he states how he had never specifically acted in
the stereotypical American way. Additionally, the fact that Changez attempts to act like an American
demonstrates how his identity isn t just American, but also Pakistani as well. This defines the theme of
identity, as Changez feels troubled and confused about where he really is from, and where his loyalties
lie. Furthermore, Changez states how at Manila, he learned to answer, when asked where [he] was
from, that [he] was from New York. (65). Changez stating how he was specifically from New York
shows how he identifies the place as home, similar to his real home in Pakistan. It is shown through
previous chapters that New York contains many parts of Pakistani culture, explaining why Changez
relates to New York in such a cheerful and excited tone. Even so, while many relate the US and New
York as identical, Changez separates the two places, stating how America represents the egotistical,
condescending behavior that it expresses on others. Changez resorting

Reasons Why Germany Lost World War I
There are many reasons why Germany lost World War I. The Germans were outnumbered, lacked
advanced resources, and did not prepare adequately. At the beginning of the war, Germany started out
with a very large, well trained army. The German government had also contributed greatly to their
own downfall. They thought that the war would be short, so they enlisted most of the farmers from
their fields, and equally demanded all of the horses they were using to pull ploughs. The greatest
chance of them winning would be for them to defeat their enemies quickly and then forcing a peace.
At the start of the war, Germany captured Belgian territory and could not be driven out unless by a
long battle of attrition. As the war dragged on, Germany s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To ease this growth, Germany needed to have access to goods that were outside its direct
management. Germany met this demand by almost doubling the amount of their imports between
1899 and 1913. This meant that throughout the 15 years leading to the outbreak of World War I,
Germany became greatly dependent on acquiring goods from foreign merchants in order to keep its
society steady and functional. From 1899 1913, nearly 77% of the total import tonnage was raw
materials and chemicals needed to support the large growth in German industry. A major portion of
these chemical imports included sodium nitrate, a compound used by most German farmers to
replenish nutrients lacking in the poor quality soil found throughout the country. Germany was greatly
dependent upon the uninterrupted flow of international trade. Their economy was not suited to fight in
a total war of attrition where its main supply of resources and ability to export finished goods would
be severely held up for extended periods of time. A majority of the imported foods were used to feed
livestock. An estimated 45% of all domestically produced foods were connected to foreign imports
(http://www.studentpulse.com). The allies had barred all German ports, which prevented the
importation of vital foodstuffs, medicines, and war supplies to Germany. Britain s remarkable strategy

After Edwards s death in 1553 his half sister Mary I (1516 58) became Queen. Mary who was a
devout Catholic began to undo the changes that Edward and Henry had started and set the nation back
to the Catholic faith. During her reign (1553 1558) hundreds of Protestants, who refused to turn
Catholic, were burned at the stake, this led to Mary acquiring the nickname Bloody Mary (Steele
MacDonald, 2007).
In 1559 Elizabeth I (1533 1603) was crowned Queen. Elizabeth sought to find a middle ground during
her rein (1558 1603) in England, by allowing both Catholics and Protestants to worship without fear
of any repercussions. However, Gilbert (1976) that Elizabeth I and her successors had legislated to
make Anglican worship compulsory (p. 4). By introducing the Act of Uniformity of 1559 it laid out
the rules of worship that both religions were to follow and reissued the Book of Common Prayer for
use in worship. The Thirty Nine Articles of 1563 also set to define the doctrine of the Church of
England which set out a middle path between the beliefs and practices of the Catholic Church and the
Protestants (Wolffe, 2008). By the end of Elizabeth s I forty five year reign, the majority of people in
English society were Protestant. As the older, mainly Catholic members of society had died through

researchers have determined that Sex Laws are undeserved and unproductive . If the social order

Essay on Stem Cell Research
Stem cells are cells that go through mitosis and separate into special cell types. Stem cells have the
capacity to renew by their selves, resulting in more stem cells. Stem cells are capable of performing a
specific task, such as regeneration and replacement of a damaged or a diseased tissue. There are
billions of cells, all with their own music. As the brain develops, it turns out they re pretty harmonious
an orchestra of keyboards (Zerhouni, 2).The two broad types of cells are embryonic stem cells and
adult stem cells. Embryonic stem cells are kind of like all purpose type. They can specialize and
become any kind of body cell. The Adult stem cells are tissue specific type and can function with
certain types of body cells only. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this technique they take a woman s egg and then they remove the nucleus. Then you take out a
nucleus from a somatic cell of another person. Then they insert the nucleus of the somatic cell into the
egg cell from which we took out the nucleus. Then they derive stem cells form that and those are the
genetic match. So pretty much they are supplanting the nucleus from a somatic cell to an egg cell.
A potential application of stem cells is making cells and tissues for medical therapies. In the modern
world, organs and tissues that are donated can be supplanted with diseased or destroyed ones.
Unfortunately, we have the number of people needing a transplant exceeding the number of organs
available. Pluripotent stem cells offer a source of replacement cells and tissues to treat a variety of
diseases, conditions, and disabilities including Parkinson s disease, blood cancer, amyotrophic lateral
sclerosis, Alzheimer s disease, spinal cord injury, burns, heart disease, diabetes, blood disorders, and
arthritis. Anyone suffering from these common diseases or disorders can be benefited from the stem
cell research applications.
There are many arguments when talking about stem cells research. Some are for it and some are
against it. The pros are that stem cell research can potentially treat or prevent various types of medical
conditions and diseases. It could lead us to better treatment and possibly cure certain

Grounded Theory
The grounded theory method is a method which allows counselors to understand the basis of the
research in its full context; it can later be tested, and is usually used when there is little information is
known about the subject in relation to counseling (Sheperis, C. J., Young, J. S., Daniels, M. H. 2010).
The grounded theory model was founded in the 1960 s by Barney Glaser and Anselm Strauss. Glaser
came from a positivist background where quantitative research was dominant and Strauss came from a
strong background of qualitative research. Together, the formed the grounded theory method which
focused on allowing data to lead to the development of a theory (Sheperis et al., 2010). In the article

from previous studies (Sheperis et al., 2010). In addition, it was stated that interviews and data
collected from interviews is the richest type of data since the data has such variety (Sheperis et al.,
2010). However, in order for the participants to feel like the researcher can be trusted, allowing the
participant to further open up and divulge information, the researcher must be sensitive and open in
order to maintain a good client researcher relationship (Sheperis et al., 2010). A limitation of this type
of theory would be a researcher who does not possess the skill of being open and sensitive to their
clients, not allowing proper data collection to take place on part of lack of provided information from
participants. In comparison, a strength of this type of theory is that the grounded theory model looks at
the data first, making researchers stop, take a look at the data, thinking about what was gathered, and
then looking at the word or the topic which was researched in a different set of lenses or from a
different view (Sheperis et al., 2010). Furthermore, this type of theory can be used to analyze complex
social problems such as violence within groups or relationships. These problems can be between
people and social structures or groups, without needing the

Differences Between Idealism and Realism
Philosophers say the key to understanding human life is answering the really philosophical questions
such as why are we here? Where did we come from? Where will we go? And so on and so forth. This
has truly been a debate for the ages in philosophy, one that has stimulated thinkers, philosophers,
theologists and scientists for thousands of years, hence led emergence of idealism and realism as two

We achieve greater and greater knowledge through proper study of the world. In Realism, a person is
an empty vessel for knowledge which can only come from outside of the self, through observation.
Aristotle is an exponent of realism. He asserts that matter has an objective reality and that matter is the
underlying principle of all things.
Philosophers like Herbert Spencer and John Locke postulated that matter is the ultimate reality. They
say that things we experience with our senses such as hills, trees, animals, sand, water and man are
simply not ideas in the mind of the observing individuals or even in the mind of an external observer.
Rather they exist in themselves independent of the mind. Realism categorized in Religious realism,
Aristotle Realism and Scientific realism Religious realism represented by Thomas Aquinas asserts that
mind and matter form the composite. Man is a composite of body and soul. The spirit is more
important and higher than the body. He argues that this is proved through revelation and reasoning.
Seetharamu (1989) argues that Aristotle Realism was proposed by Aristotle who was Plato s student
where by Aristotle believed that the world could be understood at a fundamental level through the
detailed observation and cataloguing of phenomenon. That is knowledge, which is what the word

  • 2. Why Is English A Mandatory Language English is a Western Germanic language and was first spoken in England and now known as the global lingua franca. In the book Andreev Khomiakov talks about how the Stalin system works daily, and expresses his own opinions about it. He explains how controlled he and his coworkers are by the Soviets. This primary source is helpful to feel what it was like under Stalin s Soviet Union. After reading Bitter Watters, I have realized Stalin s totalitarian was an actual thing. Using the words from Andreev Khomiakov himself, you will see how Stalin s regime was totalitarian. By giving a summary of a section and then dissecting it with facts will help explain the argument. That Stalin s Soviet Union was a totalitarian run country during his rule. First we need to briefly go over the beginning of the book to understand the books direction. The book starts out with Andreev Khomiakov explaining his thought process of being released from the labor camp. What he would do when he was released. And while there s no single correct way to start a sentence, we need to vary them to ensure our writing doesn t get stale or boring. So, what makes a bad sentence beginning anyway? Are there rules? Well, no, but let s look at some examples of how repeated simple sentence openings can become stilted and tough to read. For example: John went to the store. Anthony went with him. They bought food and drinks. They bought flowers for John s mother. The man at the cash register smiled at them and gave them a discount. They returned home and put away the groceries. What do all these sentence beginnings have in common? As we can see, each one consists of a noun followed by a verb. Unfortunately, these simple sentences quickly become boring, decreasing the impact of our writing. Let s see what happens when we vary them a bit. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Era, and that has experienced various powerful events that has shaped the country since its birth. As with other nations, an important part of their past lies in their religion. Before they were introduced to Buddhism and other outside religions, which had a large impact on their society, the Japanese followed something known as Shinto. As the one religion that can truly be called Japanese, it follows that its influences would still remain in the eyes of the people and only aided by a traditionally xenophobic view of the world. One of the key aspects of Shinto, and an aspect that made it somewhat difficult for me to study in a more isolated context, is the flexibility of it. Unlike the Abrahamic religions, there is no strict religious doctrine or meticulous set of rules that governs the practitioners. Instead, it s much more a conceptual idea that carries with it various commonalities, specifically in terms of practices and a very nature based system of deities (Religions of the World). Although, despite Japan s more isolated society, they did share certain ideas with other Eastern religions, such as a focus on the cosmos and harmony with nature and others (Return of the Gods). This led to an interesting dynamic when other Asian religions and philosophies made their way into Japan. While there might have been a certain amount of abrasiveness between Shinto and the others at first, the nature of the religion allowed a unique blending that isn t to often scene between the unique (or semi unique) religions of multiple countries. The three most prominent influences came from Chinese Confucianism and Taoism, and Indian Buddhism. Buddhism in particular had the most influence on their religion, becoming a near inseparable part of it (Religions of the World). This only supports the notion that religion is more of an idea than what most of us in the west would typically consider religion. Child Labour Around the World Child Labor lingers among all Introduction Child labor has been an enormous issue lingering amongst our world today, but yet people d not realize that it is still occurring more often in developing countries. Throughout the last few decades, child labor has been declining in many countries. However, more than 250 million children between the ages of 5 and 14 are still working ( Child labor around, 2013). This type of learning creates an association between a behavior and consequence for that behavior. The four types of operant conditioning are positive reinforcement, positive punishment, negative reinforcement, and negative punishment. If operant conditioning was used properly it could be used to solve a variety of social and resource dilemmas; especially in the case of the cattle ranchers and overgrazing. Positive reinforcement is when a positive stimulus is added in hopes of increasing a behavior. This could be that the ranchers are actually paid for not using the common land whose quality has begun to deteriorate. By paying ranchers to use either their own land, or pay to use a different land, it would give the common land pasture time to get in better condition. Also if you paid ranchers to only use their own land, not only would the common land pasture increase in quality, but the rancher s land would most likely stay in good condition because that land belongs to the racher. A huge problem with the tragedy of the commons is that people abuse common resources because no one has ownership over them; they are nonexcludable but rival, so everyone s use of those resources quickly depletes the supply of it. He portrays Africa, or the Dark Continent to be a place of primitiveness and savagery. The nature of the natives are primitive and savage too. In the same way, he aides the superficial meanings of his description with words that have negative connotations to further his depiction of the natives as primitive and savage. In the beginning when Marlow arrives at the Outer Station, Conrad uses the dead and dying natives to represent what human nature should be and sometimes is on the outside. They were dying slowly it was very clear. They were not enemies, they were not criminals, they were nothing earthly now nothing but black shadows of disease and starvation, lying confusedly in the greenish gloom (Conrad 19). They lack power. Conrad intentionally portrays them as powerless because without power, they aren t a threat. He relates this to the primal feelings of man. • 26. The Deadly Diet Of Eating Disorders Eating disorders are sweeping this country and are rampant on junior high, high school, and college campuses. These disorders are often referred to as the Deadly Diet, but are often known by their more popular names: anorexia or bulimia. They affect more than 20% of females between the age of thirteen and forty. It is very rare for a young female not to know of someone with an eating disorder. Statistics show that at least one in five young women have a serious problem with eating and weight (Bruch, 25). The Deadly Diet appears to be a mostly female problem. Eating disorders are most common in the middle to upper middle class families. Currently, the incidence is much lower in females from the blue collar families. The Deadly Diet can begin anywhere from the ages of ten to thirty. The peak age for the beginning of the Deadly Diet in females is eleven to fifteen; the peak for males is between fifteen and eighteen (Bauer, 89). Most of the information on the Deadly Diet says that it is a problem of teenage girls, but as clinics have found, most of the people who come to get therapy are in their twenties and thirties. This may be because younger people are less likely to seek professional help. Most often it is the parent who brings the patient for help. Adults who have left home and had to deal with managing their lives usually tend to realize more clearly the need to seek help and make changes. Hamid s use of US immigration affects the plot of the story as it connects to the theme of identity, through the use of ashamed tone as well as precise diction. First of all, the use of ashamed tone demonstrates how US immigration is associated with the theme of identity. For example, as Changez rides in a limousine with his colleagues, he spots a Filipino driver: There was an undisguised hostility in his expression; I had no idea why ... Even though Changez is a US immigrant, it is suggested that he still acted in a Pakistani behavior, as he states how he had never specifically acted in the stereotypical American way. Additionally, the fact that Changez attempts to act like an American demonstrates how his identity isn t just American, but also Pakistani as well. This defines the theme of identity, as Changez feels troubled and confused about where he really is from, and where his loyalties lie. Furthermore, Changez states how at Manila, he learned to answer, when asked where [he] was from, that [he] was from New York. (65). Changez stating how he was specifically from New York shows how he identifies the place as home, similar to his real home in Pakistan. It is shown through previous chapters that New York contains many parts of Pakistani culture, explaining why Changez relates to New York in such a cheerful and excited tone. At the beginning of the war, Germany started out with a very large, well trained army. The German government had also contributed greatly to their own downfall. They thought that the war would be short, so they enlisted most of the farmers from their fields, and equally demanded all of the horses they were using to pull ploughs. A major portion of these chemical imports included sodium nitrate, a compound used by most German farmers to replenish nutrients lacking in the poor quality soil found throughout the country. Pluripotent stem cells offer a source of replacement cells and tissues to treat a variety of diseases, conditions, and disabilities including Parkinson s disease, blood cancer, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Alzheimer s disease, spinal cord injury, burns, heart disease, diabetes, blood disorders, and arthritis. Anyone suffering from these common diseases or disorders can be benefited from the stem cell research applications. There are many arguments when talking about stem cells research. Some are for it and some are against it. The pros are that stem cell research can potentially treat or prevent various types of medical conditions and diseases. It could lead us to better treatment and possibly cure certain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Grounded Theory The grounded theory method is a method which allows counselors to understand the basis of the research in its full context; it can later be tested, and is usually used when there is little information is known about the subject in relation to counseling (Sheperis, C. J., Young, J. S., Daniels, M. H. 2010). The grounded theory model was founded in the 1960 s by Barney Glaser and Anselm Strauss. Glaser came from a positivist background where quantitative research was dominant and Strauss came from a strong background of qualitative research. Together, the formed the grounded theory method which focused on allowing data to lead to the development of a theory (Sheperis et al., 2010). Data using the grounded theory method is collected using journals, case notes, and information from previous studies (Sheperis et al., 2010). In addition, it was stated that interviews and data collected from interviews is the richest type of data since the data has such variety (Sheperis et al., 2010). However, in order for the participants to feel like the researcher can be trusted, allowing the participant to further open up and divulge information, the researcher must be sensitive and open in order to maintain a good client researcher relationship (Sheperis et al., 2010). A limitation of this type of theory would be a researcher who does not possess the skill of being open and sensitive to their clients, not allowing proper data collection to take place on part of lack of provided information from participants. In comparison, a strength of this type of theory is that the grounded theory model looks at the data first, making researchers stop, take a look at the data, thinking about what was gathered, and then looking at the word or the topic which was researched in a different set of lenses or from a different view (Sheperis et al., 2010). Furthermore, this type of theory can be used to analyze complex social problems such as violence within groups or relationships. These problems can be between people and social structures or groups, without needing the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Realism, a person is an empty vessel for knowledge which can only come from outside of the self, through observation. Aristotle is an exponent of realism. He asserts that matter has an objective reality and that matter is the underlying principle of all things. Philosophers like Herbert Spencer and John Locke postulated that matter is the ultimate reality. They say that things we experience with our senses such as hills, trees, animals, sand, water and man are simply not ideas in the mind of the observing individuals or even in the mind of an external observer. Rather they exist in themselves independent of the mind. Realism categorized in Religious realism, Aristotle Realism and Scientific realism Religious realism represented by Thomas Aquinas asserts that mind and matter form the composite. Man is a composite of body and soul. The spirit is more important and higher than the body. He argues that this is proved through revelation and reasoning. Seetharamu (1989) argues that Aristotle Realism was proposed by Aristotle who was Plato s student where by Aristotle believed that the world could be understood at a fundamental level through the detailed observation and cataloguing of phenomenon. That is knowledge, which is what the word ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
