Road safety is a major public health issue in India. The number of road traffic injuries and deaths has increased substantially over the past few decades as the number of vehicles on the road has grown rapidly. While roads are critical infrastructure, safety has not kept pace. Available data shows high rates of road deaths in many Indian states and cities. Effective interventions include enforcement of traffic laws on helmets and drink driving, improving road engineering for pedestrian safety, increasing road visibility, public education campaigns, strengthening emergency response systems, and improving vehicle safety standards. However, there remains a disconnect between responsibility, leadership and coordination among different agencies and departments regarding road safety in India.

This document summarizes the results of a study analyzing the greenhouse gas emissions from 41 Australian dairy farms. It finds that total GHG emissions and emission intensity (emissions per ton of milk solids) varied significantly between farms based on factors like regional location, level of grain feeding, herd size, and farm area. Emissions intensity was highest in Tasmania and lowest in New South Wales. Farms with lower levels of grain feeding (<1 tonne per year) had higher emission intensities than those feeding more grain. Accounting for all emissions sources, average emission intensity across all farms was 14.3 tons of CO2e per ton of milk solids.
London's population growth is projected to be large over the coming years. This presentations outlines some of the latest statistics and discusses implications particularly for housing.
1) Nitrous oxide emissions from agricultural soils are a major source of emissions in Australia, with fertilizer application being a key driver.
2) A study measured nitrous oxide emissions from wheat crops with different nitrogen sources and found significantly higher emissions when urea fertilizer was used compared to no fertilizer or a legume rotation.
3) Legume rotations supplied sufficient nitrogen for wheat growth in low rainfall years and generated less nitrous oxide emissions than urea fertilizer, though establishing legumes can be challenging in drier conditions.

The Great Lakes have experienced increasing pollution over time, harming the ecosystem. Water temperatures have risen significantly in recent decades, with Lake Erie's surface temperature reaching 27 degrees Celsius in August 2010. This warming has reduced ice cover on the lakes to only 10% of historic levels. The lack of ice is damaging fish habitats and allowing invasive species to thrive. Most recently in 2012, tens of thousands of dead fish washed up on the shores of Lake Erie, a sign of the troubled state of pollution in the Great Lakes.
The document provides statistics on Ireland's economy and its relationship with the EU from 1960 to 2005. Key metrics shown include Ireland's GDP per capita increasing sharply from 1960 to 2005, high employment rates from 1996 to 2005 for both males and females, unemployment rates generally lower than the EU average, government debt as a percentage of GDP declining after peaking in the late 1990s, and Ireland typically running budget deficits smaller than the EU limit.
Ilma Lake Destratification With Venturi Type Eductorjohnsalo
This document describes how a venturi-type eductor system was installed in Lake Evergreen in 1996 to destratify the lake and improve water quality following a drought. The eductor works by pulling denser, lower oxygen water from the hypolimnion and pushing it to the surface, adding dissolved oxygen. This eliminates thermal stratification and prevents algal blooms. Results showed the eductor broke up the thermocline, improved dissolved oxygen levels throughout the lake, and reduced odors and taste issues in the finished drinking water. Similar systems were later successfully implemented in other lakes as well.
This document summarizes online video trends in Europe. It finds that while growth of unique viewers and video views slowed in 2010, consumption has since shifted to higher quality, longer videos. There is demand for a quality viewing experience, wide range of engaging content, convenient accessibility, and pricing worth paying. As supply meets this demand, online video is being driven by improved broadband, more content from broadcasters and local specialists, and user generated content supplemented by partners. Syndication and social media make video more accessible, while advanced advertising allows optimized campaigns and understanding of impact. Overall online video is becoming more integrated with television.

- Growing income inequality in the decades before the 1929 and 2007 crises simultaneously increased demand for credit from the lower/middle classes to maintain living standards and supply of credit from high income groups seeking investment opportunities.
- Inequality and household leverage both sharply increased together in the periods preceding the two crises.
- Earnings of the top decile increased over 40% cumulatively while earnings of the bottom decile decreased over 30% from 1980-2000.
- Debt levels were flat or lower for high income groups but sharply higher for the bottom 95% leading up to the 2007 crisis.
The document describes the PULP protocol, a hybrid push-pull protocol for disseminating messages from multiple sources across a network. It uses an initial exponential growth phase using push to quickly inform nodes, followed by a quadratic shrinking pull phase to limit redundant messages. Nodes maintain message histories and trading windows to drive useful pulls. Evaluation shows the protocol achieves high coverage with low latency and bandwidth costs, and adapts well to changes in message frequency and network churn.

This document investigates the effect of cementite particles on microstructure refinement and formation of high angle boundaries in low carbon steel. Warm deformation tests were conducted on a 0.16C steel and an ultra-low carbon steel up to a strain of 5 at 685°C and 0.1 s-1 strain rate. Electron backscatter diffraction analysis showed that cementite precipitation and ferrite recrystallization led to the formation of high angle boundaries and grain refinement during subcritical deformation. Flow stress was higher for the 0.16C steel due to cementite particles anchoring grain boundaries.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
