Editor's Notes
- As the scientific community itself began to realise the deficiencies of subscription-based publishing several of them decided to take action. Specifically, Harold Varmus, Pat Brown and Mike Eisen established the Public Library of Science, initially as a sort of pressure group whose aim was to force publishers to change their ways.
- This summarizes the broad aims that we have for our publishing operation.
- Of the many pieces of news coverage of this article, one was in the Times Higher Education – the UK’s equivalent of the US’s Chronicle of Higher Ed.
