"Leadership, Happiness and Project Success" - Keynote by Thomas Juli @ PMI NL...Dr. Thomas Juli
Keynote "Leadership, Happiness and Project Success" by Thomas Juli at the PMI Netherlands Summit 2014
This presentation explains why and how leadership and happiness are key ingredients to project success.
All of us like to be happy, yet how many of us prioritize work based on happiness? Consider the people who buy, use, sell or make your product/service. Are you focused on making all of them happy?
When I reflect on a large Agile eLearning deal my company did with our biggest client between 2009-2010, it’s clear that we over-prioritized the happiness of some individuals while under-prioritizing the happiness of others. The smaller deals we are now doing with this same client in 2011 reveal the importance of prioritizing happiness across the entire community of people involved with our product.
Prioritizing happiness has helped us expand our focus and discover work that really matters. In this talk, I’ll describe how prioritizing happiness can have a profound impact on your process, your people and your bottom line.
Over 38,000 people have taken the Gross National Happiness Index and over 120 cities, communities and campuses are using the Gross National Happiness. They have their happiness scores and are asking - now what? The Happiness Data Playbook offers ideas for policy makers and community activists to use the data for the happiness, sustainability and wellbeing of all. Inspired by the World Happiness Report, Legatum Institute Wellbeing and Policy report, and other documents, this document includes links to examples and resources.

Someone's Done that Already: The Best Practices of Sharing Best Practices, pr...craigslist_fndn
We want to get the job done right now. Immediately. Now as in last week. But what if someone already figured out a great roadmap for success? This session explores resources for discovering and sharing best practices, including the politics of hoarding or sharing best practices.
Building Strong Neighborhoods: A Study Guide for Public Dialogue and Communit...Everyday Democracy
A four-session discussion guide on many important neighborhood issues including: race and other kinds of differences; young people and families; safety and community-police relations; homes, housing and beautification; jobs and neighborhood economy; and schools.
SXSW Interactive is many things -- parties, breakfast tacos, big ideas--but most of all it is an incredible community of designers, entrepreneurs and technologists who care about the future of the web. As that community
has grown, so has the call from nonprofit leaders and socially conscious brands to infuse the SXSW experience
with themes of how to harness the power of web technology to make the world a better place.
The question becomes: how do we break out of our silos, patterns and habits to do something about it?
We invited 16 change-makers from vastly different business sectors to explore this very question with us. We called it the Do Good Dialogues. Featuring innovative voices seeking to take cross-pollination to the next level, master disruptor Brian Reich led 15-minute discussions from our stage and challenged each thought leader to answer “Five Good Questions” about their role in creating lasting social good.
The Do Good Dialogues eBook features the transcripts of those discussions, along with other notes, thoughts and resources.

Types of nonprofits:
There are many types of nonprofits. As I discussed, some are specific to providing direct services like feeding people experiencing homelessness; however, there are also organizations devoted just to fundraising for certain causes (e.g., Wounded Warrior Project, Susan G. Komen Foundation), to provide capacity building services to other nonprofits (e.g., many state-level organizations), and to advocate for others (e.g., lobbying organizations like the National Organization of Women). If you’re unsure about what an organization has to offer, just call them and ask! Many people who work in nonprofits are there to help any and all people, including those of you who want to volunteer.
Resources for volunteering:
- Volunteermatch.org: great collection of national, state, local, and virtual opportunities; also provides a list of nonprofits by subject area (anti-hunger, animal welfare, tutoring, etc.)
- Idealist.org: great collection of international, national, state, and local opportunities; also lists internships and jobs available with nonprofits.
- Hungervolunteer.org: national database on volunteer opportunities with anti-hunger organizations.
- Volunteer.dc.gov: resources and information on local volunteer opportunities (although not updated regularly. Best to check VolunteerMatch or Idealist first)
- Breadforthecity.org/volunteer/ : volunteer positions with Bread for the City. The organization does much more than just anti-hunger stuff including job readiness programs, resume writing, clothing assistance, and much more.
- Volunteer.capitalareafoodbank.org: also offers various volunteer opportunities including nutrition education, community gardening, and benefits outreach.
- Dccfh.org (DC Coalition for the Homeless): they don’t list any volunteer opportunities on their website but just reach out to them to see if they are in need of assistance.
- Humanerescuealliance.org/volunteer : DC’s animal humane shelters recently united to become the Humane Rescue Alliance of DC. They are often looking for volu ...
Healthy City works with community-based organizations to apply Community Based Participatory Action Research (CBPAR) in their mapping and community-engagement work. CBPAR starts with issues and strategies to produce analysis, uses mapping technology as one tool for community engagement and focuses on communities within a geographic location, such as a neighborhood. Using CPBAR in mapping facilitates engagement, education, strategizing, and dialogue among community members--including youth--and decision-makers.
Including young people in map making allows them to contribute their unique knowledge and lived experiences as community residents. Youth can provide invaluable insight and can act as change agents advocating on behalf of their communities. Whether you are a Youth Organizer, Community Liaison or Direct Service Provider, there are a number of ways you can incorporate and share youth data and stories using a variety of free resources and tools available on HealthyCity.org to build community power.
In this webinar you will learn how to:
1) Research and map youth population data to enhance program focus and planning on healthycity.org
2) Upload your own data onto a map
3) Use Wikimaps to better plan, collaborate and share youth outreach strategies and stories

First published in 2014 as part of a peer reviewed essay Happiness in Public Policy (http://scholarworks.waldenu.edu/jsc/vol6/iss1/5/) The policy-screening tool provides 26 factors in the domains of happiness. Policies or projects are rated by the factors that are relevant. Not all factors in the tool will necessarily be relevant. Decision-makers choose which factors to use. Decision-makers may develop other factors not included in the tool. Origins

Slides for the ISQOLS webinar featuring John C. Havens, author of Heartificial Intelligence, and presenter at the ISQOLS 2017 conference, and Executive Director of The IEEE Global Initiative for Ethical Considerations in Artificial Intelligence and Autonomous Systems.
The algorithms powering autonomous systems and Artificial Intelligence are driving the future of society. Imbued within our cars, companion robots and smart cities, we are becoming a culture of code. The risks and benefits regarding these technologies are largely evaluated through the lens of GDP-focused, exponential growth.
But when robots and algorithms diminish individual agency by making decisions on our behalf, when the liability of their actions becomes too complex to assess or when Artificial Intelligence (AI) and robotics are transforming our jobs, we must question if this will increase or decrease our well-being. Humans can’t thrive unless metrics prioritizing positive mental and emotional health are elevated as key indicators of a flourishing society.
Heartificial Intelligence - the Intersection of Emerging Technology Beyond GDP features John C. Havens, Executive Director of The IEEE Global Initiative for Ethical Considerations in Artificial Intelligence and Autonomous Systems who will describe initial efforts to introduce Beyond GDP metrics into the AI community in an effort to prioritize human wellbeing for the creation and proliferation of these technologies. The goal of The IEEE Global Initiative's work is to invite cross-disciplinary research between technologists, engineers, and the Wellbeing / Happiness community to advance AI and robotics in a way that redefines innovation with a focus on flourishing versus exponential growth.
