The Happiness Alliance’s Gross National Happiness Index is a subjective measure of well-being provided online by the not-for-profit, the Happiness Alliance. This paper documents the methodology for developing the questionnaire and the sources for each question within the questionnaire. The questionnaire has gone through four rounds. The construction of the survey by San Francisco State University’s Personality and Well-Being Laboratory was the first round. The subsequent rounds eliminated or changed questions. This paper explains the process and purpose for each round. The second section lists each question in the forth round, the source for each question as well as examples of other questionnaires using the same or similar questions.
