Designing a controller for pulse width modulation (PWM) power converters is a real challenge owing to nonlinear and time-variant nature of switching power converters. PID con- trollers based on classical control theory is the simplest controller design approach. Nevertheless, the approach is valid only for linear system and hence the converter has to be linearized. The trial and error method of tuning the controller parameters may not give satisfactory results for advanced converters. Hence a systematic software aided controller design is required. This paper presents a systematic approach for controller design of a dc-dc converter using MATLAB. A simple converter like boost converter is taken as an example to illustrate the approach. Small signal modeling of a boost converter is derived theoretically. This is compared with MATLAB generated small signal model and resultant converter transfer functions. The controller design of the linearised converter is done using MATLAB. Finally, the performance of the controller is verified for line and load variations.

In this paper, a simple static var compensating scheme using a cascaded two-level inverter-based multilevel inverter is proposed. The topology consists of two standard two-level inverters connected in cascade through open-end windings of a three-phase transformer. The dc link voltages of the inverters are regulated at different levels to obtain four-level operation. The simulation study is carried out in MATLAB/SIMULINK to predict the performance of the proposed scheme under balanced and unbalanced supply-voltage conditions. A laboratory prototype is developed to validate the simulation results. The control scheme is implemented using the TMS320F28335 digital signal processor. Further, stability behavior of the topology is investigated. The dynamic model is developed and transfer functions are derived. The system behavior is analyzed for various operating conditions.

This paper presents a high-efficiency and high-step up non isolated interleaved dc–dc converter with a common active clamp circuit. In the presented converter, the coupled-inductor boost converters are interleaved. A boost converter is used to clamp the voltage stresses of all the switches in the interleaved converters, caused by the leakage inductances present in the practical coupled inductors, to a low voltage level. The leakage energies of the interleaved converters are collected in a clamp capacitor and recycled to the output by the clamp boost converter. The proposed converter achieves high efficiency because of the recycling of the leakage energies, reduction of the switch voltage stress, mitigation of the output diode’s reverse recovery problem, and interleaving of the converters. Detailed analysis and design of the proposed converter are carried out. A prototype of the proposed converter is developed, and its experimental results are presented for validation.

This paper presents a transformerless solution for front-end rectification, which is particularly suitable for traction applications, requiring high voltages to be stepped down to appropriate dc voltage. The proposed topology is based on pulse widthmodulation buck rectifier (current source inverter topology) and is capable of rectification and stepping down of single-phase ac supply, in a single stage. A new control scheme is proposed to achieve constant dc output voltage and sinusoidal source current, irrespective of large ripples in the dc inductor current. The proposed scheme is configured in single-loop voltage control mode. The relevant small-signal model is derived from the large-signal model using multi order decomposition. An elaborate procedure of dc filter design is discussed, for circuit operation with minimum energy storage. All analytical results are validated by numerical simulation for sinusoidal and distorted source voltage. Experimental verification is achieved through a 1.2-kW grid-connected laboratory prototype.

Power electronics applications are widely used in different fields of engineering like computer, Telecommunication, electrical power and Mechanical), one of the most useful power electronics converters is DC-DC buck converter. Owing to its numerous applications, its performance needs to be improved through a suitable controller. In this Paper, A digital current mode controller is proposed and implemented for Buck converter. Proposed current mode control technique is simulated in MATLAB/SIMULINK and results are validated through hardware implementation. Both simulation and experimental analysis show effectiveness of the proposed controller.

This paper presents the functions of Series-Loaded Resonant Converter (SLRC). Series Loaded Resonant DC-DC converter is a type of soft-switching topology widely known for providing improved efficiency. Zero voltage switching (ZVS) buck converter is more preferable over hard switched buck converter for low power, high frequency DC-DC conversion applications. Zero Voltage switching techniques will be used to improve the efficiency of current and voltage at the series loaded half-bridge rectifier. The results will be described from PSIM simulation, Programming of MATLAB calculation and hardware testing.

In present days of electrical industries, adjustable speed controlled induction motor drives are very common due to its versatile features. For the speed control of induction motor, variable frequency sources are the heart of such drives. To attain variable frequency and variable voltage supply a power electronics device; single phase matrix converter is proposed. In this paper, the single phase matrix converter is modeled in MATLAB Simulink environment; controlled with sinusoidal pulse width modulation technique, control scheme is implemented in a Xilinx system generator environment and interfaced with power circuit in MATLAB Simulink. Analyses this SPMC with different type of loads in both frequency step up and step down modes. Based on simulation results, this converter is suitable for variable frequency power supplies, varying load conditions and variable speed electrical drives. FPGA control is best suitable for controlling a circuit like SPMC, consists of more controlled elements to attain fast operation.

In this paper, a new bridgeless single-ended primary inductance converter(SEPIC) power-factor-correction(PFC) rectifier is introduced. The proposed circuit provides lower conduction losses with reduced components simultaneously. In conventional PFC converters(continuous-conduction-mode boost converter), a voltage loop and a current loop are required for PFC.Simulation is done on bridgeless SEPIC and full bridge SEPIC and found that by working both in DCM conduction losses is less for bridgeless. In the proposed converter, the control circuit is simplified, and no current loop is required while the converter operates in discontinuous conduction mode.

Extremely high duty cycle of boost converter may result in higher conduction losses. To achieve a high conversion ratio without operating at extremely high duty ratio, some converters based on transformers or coupled inductors or tapped inductors have been provided. However, the leakage inductance in the transformer, coupled inductor or tapped inductor will cause high voltage spikes in the switches and reduce system efficiency. A novel single switch cascaded dc-dc converter of boost and buck boost converters have extended voltage conversion ratio to d/(1-d)2. The features of the converter are high voltage gain; only one switch for realizing the converter, the number of magnetic components is small etc. So comparing with other topologies cascaded converter is more effective. Simulation of the converter for a dc input voltage and fixed duty cycle was done, and the same was verified experimentally for a low input voltage. The software used for simulation was MatlabR2014a

In this paper, the unbalanced current in the 12- pulse phase control AC/DC converters was studied. The 12- pulse A-Y type AClDC converter will keep a balanced voltage with 30" phase shifted at the low coupling coefficient condition. But an unbalanced current will be obtained in the 12-pulse autotransformer phase shift AClDC converter at the low coupling coefficient condition. The theoretical phasor analysis of the unbalanced current was presented and a feedback controller was designed to overcome this problem. Finally, a 3 kW 12-pulse autotransformer phase shifted AClDC converter was implemented to demonstrate the theoretical analysis.
