These tips will help you make an important transition:
away from writing poetry to celebrate, commemorate, or capture your own feelings (in which case you, the poet, are the center of the poem’s universe)
towards writing poetry in order to generate feelings in your reader (in which case the poem exists entirely to serve the reader).

15. Affirmative action is a moral obligation.
16. Affirmative action is not a moral obligation.
In making your argument, you are required to:
A. Include the following:
I. An introduction that includes your thesis statement
a. for example, say I’m writing an essay on the value of reading books and my thesis statement is about the value of reading books over watching movies. My introduction could simply be “In this essay, I argue that it is better to read a book than to watch a movie.”
II. Reason(s) that support your thesis statement (In other words, what are the reasons why should we agree with your thesis statement?)
a. for example: “Reading books gives the reader an advantage of having more detail in exposition that simply watching a movie cannot. For example, a five-second pan of the camera in a movie scene loses all of the important detail—even occasionally the narrator’s inner monologue—that can be expounded on for several pages in a novel. All of this information can make a difference in both one’s understanding and one’s appreciation of the story being told. Movies all too often are incapable of capturing fully that information the way the artfully-crafted written word can.”
NOTE: The above is simply a brief example of what supporting reasons for a thesis might look like. This is not, however, an example of an appropriate or recommended length for this particular section of your essay. You want your essay to be as strong as possible—after all, you are trying to convince us of your position, right? Therefore, you should spend an ample amount of room explaining exactly why it is we should agree with you.
III. A strong objection to your thesis
a. for example: “Some may argue that watching a movie is better than reading a book because movies can present a story in around two hours, while reading a book usually takes much more time.”
IV. A response to that objection
a. For example: “Especially when so many of us have busy lives and are pressed for time, the idea of watching a two-hour movie may seem more appealing than taking the time to read a 450-page book. However, I will argue that the benefits of taking the time to read a book far outweigh any benefit gained from lazily watching a two-hour flick. For example, .
The annotated bibliography is an assignment to be completed in pre.docxarnoldmeredith47041
The annotated bibliography is an assignment to be completed in preparation for Essay 3 - the research paper.
Once you have completed your research proposal and settled on a topic for your research paper, it's time to begin conducting research for your paper.
The annotated bibliography helps you keep track of the material you find. It will also allow your instructor to gauge your progress, assess if your sources are appropriate, and determine if you have a basic understanding of MLA documentation.
For this assignment, you will need to submit information about two (2) of your sources - but it is recommended that, for your own purposes, you keep a record for each source you encounter.
At the top of your page, after your MLA heading, please post your topic and focusing question (refer to Unit 3 content notes as needed). Then proceed with the following information for each entry (2 total):
a bibliographic entry for the source according to MLA format
a brief note about how you located the source: did you find this source in person at the library, electronically, or otherwise? what terms did you use to locate the source, etc.
information about the source's author: who is the author? how is the author credible? You may need to do additional research on the author or organization responsible for the source to find out more about him/her/them/it, their credentials, etc. [This information will prove helpful because in your research paper's text, when introducing a source, it is good form to use a signal phrase that introduces the author to add credibility to your argument (as in, "According to John Doe, who is a professor at Harvard University, ...)]
a brief summary of what the source says (main ideas)
a reflection: how do you think you will use this source? How will this source help you support your own argument? How did it shape your own opinion, if at all? What are the source's strengths and weaknesses?

"Ten Facts to Know About Torture." Torture Abolition and Survivor Support Coalition. N.p., n.d. Web. 14 June 2013.
This article appears in the tassc.org website. The article can be found under the tab “about torture”. I found the article by using the search engine Google; I typed “torture facts.” After reading several articles from the search, this website seemed perfect for my research.
TASSC, Torture Abolition and Survivor Support Coalition, “was founded in 1998. It is the only organization in the United States founded by and for torture survivors. The mission of TASSC is to end the practice of torture wherever it occurs and to empower survivors, their families and communities wherever they are,” according to the "What Is TASSC"? page on their website. These are survivors who became advocates for the coalition. They work very closely to the UN and human rights groups worldwide. The coalition is “a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization and operates independently of any ideology, government or economic interest”. I think the r.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

Parts of an essay
1. Parts of an Essay
Created by Essay-Academy.com
Parts of an
Essay
2. An essay usually has three main parts.
They are an introduction, a body (supporting
paragraphs) and a conclusion (a summary
paragraph).
3. 1. An Introduction
An introduction paragraph is the first part
of your essay. We recommend you to write
approximately three to five sentences in
your introduction. However, you may write
more than five sentences, but not less than
two sentences.
4. Your introduction paragraph is divided
into three sub-parts:
1. A hook is the first sentence in your
introduction paragraph. The purpose of the
hook is attracting a potential reader’s
attention. You may write the relevance of the
topic in the first sentence of your essay.
5. 2. An introduction of the topic is the next
sentence (or the next sentences, in case if you
have more than three sentences in your
introduction paragraph).
Give some background information in this sub-
part of your introduction paragraph (you may
quote different appropriate phrases of the
famous writers, artists or politicians; you may
write a relevant anecdote; you may also mention
some interesting facts according to your theme;
or you may explain the definitions of some
terms in your essay).
6. 3. A thesis statement is the last
sentence (or the last sentences)
in your introduction paragraph.
You have to give an answer to
the question: “What is your
opinion about the theme?”.
7. Suppose you write an argumentative essay on
the theme “Should it be a Free School Meal
for Every Child?”.
You may start your essay with a direct
question to your imaginary reader like this:
“Have you ever thought how much money
our government spend on free school meals
for all primary schoolboys and schoolgirls?”.
Then write about the concrete loss of free
school meals. After that, you may argue that a
free school meal is a luxury for our state.
8. 2. A Body
A body is the second paragraph of
your essay. You may write several
body paragraphs in your essay. The
amount of supporting paragraphs is
not restricted. Write so many body
paragraphs as you need to prove
your point of view.
9. If you write an argumentative essay, you may start the
first supporting paragraph with explaining the position
of people whose opinion is diametrically opposed of
yours.
Show that you understand their arguments: 1) having
dinner in time is necessary for children’s health; 2)
children have to eat healthy products, but not fast food;
3) some families are too poor; 4) many parents are too
busy to make dinners for their children, etc.
10. Demonstrate your own point of view in the
second part of your body paragraphs.
Remember that the explanations of your
own point of view have to be more
convincing than the evidence of people
whose opinion is contrary of yours.
Write something like this: “Yes, children
have to eat in time. It would be good for
their health. However, they don’t like these
free school meals and don’t eat this food”.
11. You may give an example from your own
experience. Describe the situation where
your former classmate used to place these
free school meals in his schoolbag (of
course, surreptitiously) to throw this food
out on the way to home.
12. 3. A Conclusion
A conclusion paragraph is the
third part of your essay. This
part of your essay summarizes
the main idea.
13. A summary paragraph usually is divided into
three sub-parts:
1. A summary of the essay.
2. The keys to solve the problems (if there are any).
3. An address to your imaginary reader with some
constructive suggestions.
For example, the last sentence may be like this:
“Dear readers! Let’s write the letter to our President
with the request to abolish free school meals, as it is
uneconomical for the state”.
