What Are The Positive And Negative Impact Of Immigration...
LESSON 15 Immigration and Urban Growth
Objectives:
Identify which countries most of the immigrants came from and why immigrants flocked to the
United States
Identify the positive and negative impact of immigrants on the United States
Identify the positive and negative traits of American Politics during this time period
Immigrants and America, the Melting Pot begins.
Between 1870 and 1920, about 20 million Europeans immigrated to the United States. Many of
them came from eastern and southern Europe, which had not provided large numbers of
immigrants before. Some, like Jews, fled religious persecution. Other immigrants came to the
United States to escape economic hardship. Many left Europe full of ideas for reform and political
freedom denied to them in the past.
About 200,000 Chinese immigrants came from 1851 to 1883. Many thousand immigrants came
from Japan as well. From 1880 to 1920, about 260,000 immigrants came from the Caribbean.
Many Mexicans immigrated to the United States as well. Many Mexicans became part of the
country when territory was added after the Mexican War. About a million immigrants came from
1910 to 1930 to escape turmoil in Mexico.
Most immigrants traveled by steamship, riding in steerage, the cargo holds below the ship s
waterline. Conditions were cramped, with little light or air and were unclean. Immigrants often
suffered from disease. Immigrants who arrived in New York were processed at Ellis Island. The
process, which took

Topic: Discuss how a theme is developed in the play through two characters. Provide 3 pieces of
evidence to support the theme as it applies to each character.
The Glass Menagerie , a memory play by Tennessee Williams, not only depicts the depressing and
unhappy lives of the Winfield family at St. Louis around 1930 s, but also highlights the obstacle for
Tom to pursuing his dreams under the family obligations; the obstacle for Laura to overcoming
shyness and inferiorities to interact with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Standing on the fire escape outside the apartment and getting a cigarette allows Tom to
temporarily find peace from Amanda s nagging inquisition and commands, as he said, I d rather
smoke when Amanda complains to him about smoking too much. Through Amanda s sighing,
A fire escape landing s a poor excuse for a porch , it reveals more clearly that the fire escape has
already been a route where Tom could readily escape from the world of Amanda to a world of
new dimensions. Other than Amanda, Tom is also trapped in the responsibility of supporting
his mother and sister who are dependent on his wages to live, as he complained, Who pays the
rent on it, who makes a slave of himself to... For sixty five dollars a month I give up all that I
dream of doing and being ever! Furthermore, Tom despises the tedious job at the warehouse that
stops him doing his own interests, as he cried out, You think I m in love with the Continental
Shoemakers? ... I d rather somebody picked up crowbar and battered out my brains than going
back mornings! All of these situations cause Tom to have an even stronger will of escape. Hence,
going to movies or having drinks in the bar every night has been another way that Tom uses to
escape and seek adventure to compensate for his dull and depressed life. In Scene Four, Amanda
asks, Why do

2. Language The Tower of Babel is symbolic of the fundamental differences between humans and
gods. Humans are not meant to be completely self sufficient as God is, they should look upon God
for guidance in their life. This message was ignored in the construction of the tower in which the
two main motivations were to gain fame and to build a city to preserve unity (Interpreter s Concise
Commentary, 17). Humans should never have the arrogance to try to become gods on earth
through fame. Further, one should only preserve unity if that is God s plan.
Even this looming, powerful structure pales in comparison to the greatness that God can
accomplish, i.e. Humans can never reach the awesomeness and power of God.

4. Intended Audience The intended audience for this pericope is clearly Jews during the
Babylonian exile of 587 B.C. 538 B.C. This is seen in the setting of the story, the apocalyptic
genre of the excerpt, and the detailed explanation of the building of the tower. This story is set in
the land of Shinar (Genesis 11:2). Shinar is described as meaning Babylonia, the ancient state
resting in the Tigris Euphrates river basin. Further, within the state of Babylonia, was the northern
city of Babylon. The setting of Babylon for this ancient tradition indicates a 6th century, exiled
Jewish audience as it establishes a basis for an apocalyptic message about their exile. The
detailed description of the brick making process and bitumen (Genesis 11:3) also indicates a
Jewish audience. A Jewish audience would have been familiar with sun dried bricks, with no
archeological evidence of kiln fired bricks at this time in Palestine (Walton, 163). Mesopotamia
however used expensive bitumen almost exclusively with kiln fired bricks (Walton, 163). Further
these expensive building materials would have only been used for places, temples and other official
buildings within a city (Walton, 163). The authors need to describe this practice indicates an
audience new to this land and practice. Further, it s important to note that the author didn t feel the
need to describe the actual

The patch antenna, microstrip transmission line and ground plane are made of high conductivity
metal (typically copper). The patch is of length L, width W, and sitting on top of a substrate (some
dielectric circuit board) of thickness h with permittivity. The thickness of the ground plane or of the
microstrip is not critically important. Typically the height h is much smaller than the wavelength of
operation, but not much smaller than 0.05 of a wavelength.

Munny s Journey In Unforgiven
In the movie Unforgiven, it displays the rocky journey of William Munny with where he starts
and finishes as the killer of women and children. During his marriage and a bit after the death of
his wife, William Munny went through a rebirth and let go of his memories of the past in order
to be not only a good husband but a father to his two children. His journey starts when the
Schofield kid asks William to join him in killing two men that cut up a woman s face for the
reward of $500 each; between not wanting to go back to his life of being a killer and wanting to
provide for his family Munny is torn. He decides to take the kid up on his offer and gets his old
partner Ned Logan to help him hunt down the two men. Through the movie William is tempted to

Types And Subconscious Response By Effector
1.Reflexes are automatic and subconscious response to a stimulus. A reflex arc, the neural pathway
that a nerve impulse follows, orchestrates the operation of reflexes. The following are parts of the
reflex arc:
a)The arrival of stimulus and activation of receptor: The receptors located in a sensory neuron
detect a stimulus and generate a graded potential. If the strength of a stimulus is above the
threshold, then an action potential is generated.
b)Activation of a sensory neuron: The generated action potential is then carried to the spinal cord
by the sensory neuron.
c)Processing of information in the central nervous system (Interneuron or relay neuron): The
sensory neuron synapse with the interneuron in the spinal cord. In the central nervous system, the
responses are again graded at the synaptic junction. Now the interneuron conducts nerve impulses
from the sensory neuron to a motor neuron.
d)Activation of a motor neuron: The motor neuron now transmits nerve impulse to an effector.
e)Response by effector: Effector is usually a muscle or gland. If the effector is smooth muscle,
responses summate to produce action potentials in the smooth muscle, however, if the effector is
skeletal muscle, the graded response is enough to produce an action potential. Depending on the
situation, the effector generates an appropriate response.

Chain Elongation In The Escalators
For this particular project profit is not a concern, but rather the concern is to increase customer
satisfaction. This is going to be done by having predictive maintenance on the elongation of the
chain in the escalators, rather than reactive maintenance. Currently, BART is reacting to the effects
of chain elongation on escalators which causes maintenance to be rather expensive but most
importantly inconvenient for customers. BART is currently doing this because some of the
escalators are older so they do not have any automation associated with them. At this moment, when
an escalator breaks down due to chain elongation there is major downtime to repair it because it is
in need of emergency maintenance. With emergency reactive maintenance an

The Pros And Cons Of The Philippines In The Philippines
Nowadays, Philippines is a mess in every aspect. The country is facing enormous amount of
problems including poverty, public transportation, importation and exportation, the government
system, weak leaders, traffic, corruption, tax rate, unfinished projects, and so on. The form of
government in a certain country is achieved when the leader considers factors that could help him
/her improve the country for the better. According to the one of the professors in the university,
Philippines tried almost all forms of governmentbut failed. That means that the problem is on the
people itself because every Filipinos always want change.
Philippines has been a democratic country for a long time. According to my professor in Citizenship
and Governance, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From Ferdinand Marcos s regime, people have had enough. If Philippines would become an
authoritarian again, I think it would work. But, being under an authoritarian system is not the
answer for the problems in the country. Though, there are many benefits from being under an
authoritarian system. One of these is that people would have discipline because the power is
centralized and the rules are dependent on the leader. That leader is powerful because he/she is
attached to a group of people. In an authoritarian system, a leader could not maintain his/her
power when he/she is not attached to a group of people. Another benefit is that there would be
an education for all because in an authoritarian system, there is a competition when it comes to
being educated. The leader wants its citizens to be educated because he/she does not want to be
left behind by other countries. It affects the economy of the country for the reason that if people
are well educated, there is a high chance of them being competitive when it comes to marketing
which leads to the growth of economy of the country. The leader wants the country to be as
powerful as other countries, so he/she finds ways to make it happen. This is the good thing in
authoritarian form; the leader is competitive just to make sure that its country can be considered as
a powerful country. These happen because laws are well implemented. If a person fails to follow
the rules, he/she would face a

As stated by former ASG, Patricia D. Horoho, telehealth is the future of medicine... and significant
strategic investments have been made in TH providers and staff, program support, research and
development and technology due to the tremendous value that TH brings to the military (ATH,
2015). TH is the use of telecommunications and information technologies to connect people to
healthcare across distance. Both synchronous (real time) and asynchronous (store and forward)
technologies allows for the distribution of electronic health information, services, and education
between providers and patients and/or providers and providers (ATH, 2015). The use of
telephone, Internet, interactive radio and video equipment, remote sensory devices or robotics are
all tools of TH. Encompassing over 30 specialties including psychiatry, neurosurgery, dermatology,
radiology, pharmacy and nutrition, the RHC A is continuously working on testing and building its
capabilities in terms of policies, processes, organization, products, and systems in order to provide
safe, high quality care both in garrison and in deployed locations (RHC A(P), 2016). Problem and

The Viability of Small Photovoltaic (PV) Systems Installation
The purpose of this analysis is identification of the relative impact of economic factors for entities
contemplating entry into the Midwest Region solar energy installation market as installers of solar
photovoltaic energy systems (PV systems) for homes and small businesses. Many individuals are
concerned with renewable energy. They believe it provides a reduction in utility consumption and
cost. They also believe government subsidies, and environmental preservation makes the idea more
attractive to potential clients. However, entry to the PV system installation market is not without

Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2014). The third demand determinant evaluated is consumer taste.
Scant information is available to gauge consumer preference for PV systems. A 2009 survey of
641 individuals and businesses in San Diego, California indicates 20 percent or fewer
respondents would have PV systems installed without an available tax rebate, and most could not
afford systems sufficiently large enough to meet all of their electrical needs (U.S. Department of
Energy, 2009). The fourth determinant evaluated is population and demographics. Again little
information is available to evaluate this determinant. In a subcontract report for the National
Renewable Energy Laboratory, The Natural Marketing Institute indicates consumers in the
Midwest are more price sensitive, and less aware of their available energy options than other
national regions (Rogers, 2011). Additionally, the report states most consumers across all
regions are concerned about renewable or sustainable energy yet few act upon their concerns.
The final demand determinant evaluated is consumer expectation of future price. PV system
prices are expected to decrease as photovoltaic technology evolves, and production increases.
From 2012 2016 all PV markets are expected to grow by 25 30 percent, and the national weighted
average of all system prices will drop 33 percent (Solar Energy Industries Association, 2012).

Mardigras
This paper is about Mardi Gras, A festival or Carnival celebrated once a year. In this paper I will
discuss how
Mardi Gras originated, when it is celebrated, how it is celebrated, and what does it mean to all the
different cultures. Mardi Gras, in the French speaking parts of the world and in some US southern
states is the last day of carnival festivities preceding Lent, the time of penitence observed by
Christians in preparation for Easter. Mardi Gras ( Fat

Information security:When it comes to information security, every company faces a threat of losing
important information through hackers, natural disasters and employee dishonesty. Loss of
information could greatly affect the company s activities and cause a slow down in production.
Financial crisis: The global financial crisis has had an effect on most companies in the world
today. The rises in prices and shrinking bank lending rates have deprived businesses of the much
needed profits and capital respectively.
Media depictions: Depictions put forth by the media on certain occurrences about a company
could ruin its operations. GE has been a victim of media deception and was associated with the
Enron scandal which brought a lot of criticism and loss of investor confidence. The documentary
named deadly deception aired in 1991 displayed GE as a threat to human life for participating in
testing and building of nuclear weapons (Chasnoff, 1991). Such depictions could be used by
competitors to tarnish the company s name.
Evaluation and Analysis
It is notable that GE has a number of strengths that work to its advantage by enhancing profitability.
Its global recognition, strengths and competitiveness put GE at a favorable position as compared to

The Indigenous Peoples Of Canada
The Indigenous Peoples of Canada as a community were violated in numerous ways including
colonization. The prolonged transgression of the Indigenous Peoples has left them in arguably the
worst environmental, educational, social and economic state in the Nation decades after initial
contact (Canadian Population Health Initiative, 2004). As a direct result traditions pertaining to all
aspects of Indigenous life were affected, specifically traditional means of health. In an attempt to
figuratively breathe new life into a wounded community, efforts have been made to bring back the
ways of Aboriginal midwifery in Nunavut, QuГ©bec and Ontario. Facilities in said provinces have
been established to provide culturally safe care, putting to use ancestral medicineand qualified First
Nation midwives. The current health statistics and feedback received after introducing these types
of facilities have been positive in improving health care for Aboriginal women, and also positively
bringing about a sense of cultural revival.
Statistical State of the Nation
Health wise the Indigenous population of Canada have been found to have a much higher rate of
major health problems in comparison to the non Indigenous populations. Rates of cardiovascular
disease, obesity, arthritis and hypertension are all higher than non Aboriginal Canadian rates (First
Nations and Inuit Reginal Health Survey, 1999). The Indigenous population comprised of 4.3% of
the population in 2011 but accounted for 12.2% of

are they?
I have recently studied To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell, written in the 17th Century and
Our Love Now by Martyn Lowery, written in the 19th century. Attitudes to lovehave changed a lot
since the 17th Century. When To His Coy Mistress was written, men were in charge of the
relationship. It would take a lot longer for this relationship to progress than it would today. The
man would court the woman for months before anything progressed. He would write her letters and
poems, and then eventually, if he loved her, he would ask her to marry him. They... Show more

but she says There is always a scar.. implying the wound in their relationship is too deep to mend
fully. In this poem it seems like she has the final word. It is a modern poem about love.
Marvell uses different methods of persuasions. He bombards her as the poem is very long and has
no stanzas, so she has to keep reading and listening to his arguments. He has also divided the poem
into three sections. The first section is about him romancing and flattering her.
He shows his love for her by using time, place and exaggeration. Had we but world enough, and
time / This coyness, lady, were no crime. shows Marvell using time. He is telling the woman that if
they had all the time in the world her shyness would not matter. They by the
Indian Ganges side / Should st rubies find: I by the tide / Of Humber would complain. This
shows Marvell using place and distance to persuade her. He tells her that she could sit by the
Indian Ganges, and he would sit by the Humber in England and wish for her. He then goes on to
say, that if she wishes; she can keep him at arms length, and that his feelings will wait until she
is ready. This makes her feel that he is not pressuring her in to anything she does not want to do.
Marvell uses a lot of exaggeration, for example I would / Love you ten years before the flood.. He

Another exceedingly referenced individual is a classic man whose culture has cannabis deeply
rooted in their beliefs. Bob Marley could be reflected as one of the most iconic figures in
marijuana culture. I believe this to be the case because Bob Marley did not consume in a typical

believed and practiced Rastafarianism, which can be viewed as a religion or culture.
Rastafarianism holds strong beliefs in the use of cannabis. According to Murrell, The ritual
smoking of marijuana (ganja) also plays an important role in Rastafarian life. This holy herb is

during the Vietnam War, many protestors of the war were cannabis users, so the Nixon Campaign

Eulogy For Leaving Home Analysis
Family, friends, and colleagues, thank you all for joining us. We are here today to pay our last

illness, one that caused him great pain for many months. Ivan was a good man, one who did not
deserve the pain he suffered through or the end he received.
I first met Ivan as a young woman, at one of the many social gatherings he went to. I quickly fell
in love with him; with his intelligence and pleasant personality, I was a lucky woman to marry
such an upstanding gentleman. He was a very generous man; after we married, he spared no

Observation Of The Opera
The Austin Opera did an outstanding performance of Bizet s Carmen , on Thursday night, played
at The Long Center of the Performing Arts. Carmen is an Opera by French composer Georges
Bizet, who died suddenly months after Carmen s debut in Paris 1875. Bizet was a composer
during the romantic era, although he has other works Carmen is his most successful work and is
frequently performed in the world of operas.
I don t remember the last time I attended an opera but it was probably 10 years ago for a field trip
in elementary school. Attending the opera is something I see don t myself doing but I m glad I had
an opportunity to go.
The opera was conducted by Richard Buckley who has worked with many operas all around the
Unites States and overseas. I ve been to a couple of middle school and high school concerts where
there was a conductor and I ve enjoyed watching the conductors move their hands in the air, it was
my favorite part. During the opera, I would get distracted by Buckley s movements, you could to
tell he was so concentrated in the music. I m no music experts but from my point of view the
orchestra sounded wonderful and if there were any mistakes I wasn t able to hear them. The
whole cast had phenomenal voices but Carmen (Sandra Piques Eddy), Escamillo (Norman

Analysis Of The Twilight Saga
The Cullen Family: More than just Blood Sucking Vampires
The Twilight Saga, by Stephanie Meyer, has been viewed as a narrative of either teenage lust or
romantic love characterized by Bella, a private seventeen year old girl, and Edward, a
mysterious vampire who goes to Bella s high school; Yet no one has credited the Cullen s in the
full light they deserve, in the way that they display family loyalty, self control, and altruism
among their family of vampires. The book series infatuated the hearts of teenage girls across the
world, and even expanded upon those horizons to reach an audience so wide that the book series
became a household name. Critics have endlessly discussed the love, or lust, of the two individuals
and are fascinated by the fact that the TwilightSaga falls not just in the genre of romance, but also
in the supernatural/ horror category. Maple, in an article that discusses this barrier breaking love
that Bella and Edward display, states throughout the story Bella and Edward share an unorthodox
relationship, a love above and beyond all others: something more expressive of eternal
commitment (Maple). Maple emphasizes how deep and rare the love between the two adolescents
is, and I would argue that human s innate desire for this kind of love is one of the main reasons
why Twilight became so widespread. However, another basis for the obsession of the books is
simply because The Cullen s, the family in which Edward belongs to, represent vampires in a

A Crumby Story of Goldilocks and The Three Bears
Oh boy, you ll never guess what kind of story that goddam sonuvabitch Stradlater told me. It has
to be the phoniest story I ve ever heard, and I m actually not lying this time. Anyways, you re not
going to believe me so I don t even know why I m telling ya, but here it is, the same goddam
thing that Stradlater told me. I suppose I should start at the beginning of the story, it only makes
sense. Anyways, he started the story by telling me about some phony girl named Goldilocks or
something and these three very sore bears who lived in a small house in the middle of the forest.
I hate when I hear about others who are poorer than me. It bothers me when others don t have the
same advantages as me. It depresses the hell out of me, it really does. Anyways, you wouldn t
think anybody would be living way the hell out in the goddam forest, but here they were. Honestly
who still believes in this fairy tale crap anymore. Allie, my younger brother you know the one I
told you about. He used to love hearing fairy tales and stories, he really did. Me, not so much
especially the crumby ones. It bothers me when parents tell their kids these stories with phony
characters and phony plots, if you want to know the truth. The characters are always so goddam
crumby, they re worst than the actors in movies. They never act like real people, but I guess that s
why they re called fairy tales.

Main Themes Of Dissatisfaction In The Mayor Of Casterbridge
The Mayor of Casterbridge has two main themes. One theme is dissatisfaction, which is a main
reason when the characters end relationships with each other. The other theme is the indelibility of
the past. Some characters had long term effects when their past was learned by other characters.
People were not forgiven for their past as easy in the early nineteenth as they are today. The author
used these themes very well, for people to assert into their life.
Dissatisfaction is very major in The Mayor of Casterbridge because many relationships are broken
and mended in the book. Those characters are dissatisfied with their current state of being, so they
move on to a different stage in their life, which can lead to other relationships being repaired. The
author is teaching the readers to move on, if something in their life is dissatisfying them.
One example of a character being dissatisfied is when Newson fakes his death because he knows
Susan is not satisfied and wants to go back to Michael Henchard. Susan found out that she didn t
have to stay with Newson, so she wanted to go back to Henchard. Susan became unpleasant to
be around, and Newson knew she wanted to go back to Henchard. On page 288, in The Mayor
of Casterbridge, Newson says Since I m here, here I ll bide, I thought to myself; twill be most
kindness to her, now she s taken against me, to let her believe me lost; for, I thought while she
supposes us both alive she ll be miserable; but if she thinks me dead she ll go back to him, and
the child will have a home. Newson faked his death to satisfy Susan and bring happiness in her life.
When Lucetta met Farfrae, she became dissatisfied with Henchard. To Lucetta, Farfrae was a
younger and better version of Henchard. Lucetta was going to marry Henchard, but she knew that
she should would not be happy with him. Lucetta also found out about Henchard s past, and she
was dissatisfied with the way he treated his first wife. On page 209, Lucetta says I learnt of the
rumor that you had вЋЇ sold your first wife at a fair, like a horse or cow. How could I keep my
promise after hearing that? Lucetta knew she was not going to be satisfied with Henchard if she
married him, so she moved on with her life.

Essay On Grit
We realized that the only persons we can trust in this world is each other and our families
(Marion Jones). The trait that I will be connecting to is grit. Grit means firmness of mind or spirit.
It is a noun. It can also mean unyielding courage in the face or hardship or danger. Some
synonyms of the word grit are backbone, fortitude, and constancy. An antonym of the word grit is
spinelessness. Grit is an important word because all the people in the pieces of literature had to be
firm in their mindand spiritto keep moving forward. They had to be able to want to keep going
and not give up on what they wanted. They had to get through the hard times by being grit to get

Government about it even though she figured out that her coach was lying to her. She ends up

family and friends. Authors use nonfiction literature to influence their reader through grit by
showing us the strength they have in them and how they won t let anyone or anything come in
between what they believe in. My first piece of literature comes from the reading of The Clever
Class. Malala is the main character of this story. She stood up for the rights of girls. She always
said that they weren t going to let the Taliban win or take the girls rights away. She stated We
were scared, but our fear was not as strong as our courage. This connects to the trait grit because
she had the mind that they could get through it. That they had more courage than they did fear.
That the people want to get through the Taliban. They all had the spirit to get through it. There
was a part that Malala ran into some Taliban and she wanted to tell them out. She said to them If I
am speaking for my rights, for the rights of girls, I am not doing anything wrong. God wants to see
how we behave in such situations. This connects to grit because they had the mind that they weren t
doing anything wrong and they weren t. They spoke out against the Taliban to get the rights they
wanted for girls.

America s Trade Area Of The Americas
History
Latin America is composed of seventeen countries which was colonized by Spain s and Portugal.
They are large in diverse population with four hundred and ninety million people in total. The
percentage of the Indian and African that lives in Latin America is basically seventy five percent
just in the cities. The industrial and development grew since the 1960 s; also the free Trade Area of
the Americas (FTAA) proposes to integrate economies of Latin America, North America and the
Caribbean (except Cuba). Prisons for quite a long time have been a gateway to try to save society.
However, the only thing that it s doing is hurting the social order. This happens because it creates
more problems that are not being treated from the beginning. Crime has become a big problem
during these hard times with the poor economy, but it has especially affected Latin America very
deeply because of all the problems that overcrowded prisons have brought forward. In Latin
America Brazil and Mexico are the two largest and strongest countries that have been affected with
having the highest percentage of crimes, inmates in prisons, and concerns with overcrowded
prisons. And these increase with the high crime rates in Latin America that are rising due to drug
trafficking wars in Brazil and Mexico. Brazil and Argentina are again the two of Latin America s
strongest and largest countries because they make up most of the common market where other
nations come to trade, buy goods and buy cash

The Theological Concept Of The Divine Mother Essay
Debates on the theological concept of the Divine Mother
The 20th century feminist criticism of the systems of re presentation have attempted to expose the
system of power that authorises certain representations while blocking, prohibiting, or invalidating
others .83 Corrington further evaluates that if this is true for modes of expressing concepts in
general, it is even more true for modes of expressing religious concepts .84
Moreover, summarising Ochshorn s argument for the expression of such concepts in monotheistic
religions, Corrington states that the limitation of a deity to a single dynamic personality entailed
the assignment to that persona of a gender that was perceived as the least limited in its socio
biological role .85
Such expression is seen in early Christianity, when Jesus as the incarnation of God has become a
crucial model for the saviour of the human race.86 In the work of Ruether who argues for
misappropriation of the saviour figure in the early Christian thought, the discussion on such
gender limitation takes the most dramatic turn: Who is this saviour, and from what does he save
us? This saviour of men comes to free men from birth, from women, from earth, and from limits.
This saviour can only come in the image of the male. As God can only be imaged as male, as the
male is the proper image of God, so the saviour too must be male.... .87
The key to understanding this tension lies in understanding of both the aforementioned expression of

The Pros And Cons Of Freedom Of Marriage In America
Though current day California is home state to an extensive multi racial population, the government
did not uphold the state s egalitarian values until a mere fifty years ago. When the pool of the
California ethnic population began to broaden in the 20th century, many newcomers were denied
the right to equal opportunities. Minorities suffered under the heavy hand of segregation, lacking
basic constitutional rights and adequate political representation. Perhaps one of the most
unfortunate instances of these anti democratic sentiments were the segregation limits set on
freedom of marriage. The first anti miscegenationlaw in America was established over 350 years
ago, in Colonial Maryland under British Law. The law inhibited whites from marrying African
American slaves, and deemed that any white woman married to a slave would too become a slave
herself. However, this failed to draw distinction between enslaved and free blacks, and did not
criminalize the white man who wed a black woman. Soon after Maryland, the Commonwealth of
Virginia banned all forms of interracial marriage, deeming violators to be penalized with exile or
death. Those that were found ministering miscegenistic weddings were heavily fined. Many
colonies followed Virginia and adapted these tenets soon after.
Despite some states constituting strict marriage laws, other states upheld various other political
values in their legal systems. Soon after gaining statehood, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts

Atkinson Shiffrin Theory Essay
Memory providing the awareness of our existence among people is a skill that needs to fulfil its

Memory has become a very important element in philosophy when we look at some researches
carried out in the last century. The fact that many philosophers such as Socrates, Plato and
Aristoteles concentrated on memory densely is still a mystery to be solved.

Essay On Jim Crow Laws
The Jim Crow Laws were unlawfully placed in the south in order to take away blacks rights.
Therefore, The whites enforcing this took away their social freedoms, educational rights, and
voting rights. These actions separated and increase tension between blacks and whites. These
events go against what America was originally created for; a place to pursue life, liberty, and
happiness. Jim Crow Lawswere intended to discriminated against blacks and separate them from
whites. Viewing the Jim Crow Laws through a social lens, blacks were unlawfully separated
from whites. For example, the segregation was taken to extreme when it was deemed that it shall
be unlawful to conduct a restaurant or other place for the serving of food in the city, at which
white and colored people are served in the same room ( Jim Crow Laws ). The fact that whites
were offended and disgusted about eating in the same room as blacks is appalling, ignorant, and
discriminatory from a modern sense. Jim Crow Laws ostracized blacks in not only restaurants,

it is often with an extreme disdain During the 1240s the political factions, the Guelphs, were
established. The GUelphs was once one political group, however after a feud developed over a

Summary Of Murnau s The Last Laugh
Friedrich Willhelm (F.W.) Murnau s The Last Laugh (1924) holds a special place within silent
film (Bordwell 2016). It is the film that made Murnau popular with American audiences, and in
turn, its success lead him to move to Hollywood and eventually make masterpieces (not to say that
The Last Laugh itself isn t a masterpiece), such as Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans (1927). Both
films evoke the surreality of life, but unlike the celebratory SunriseВё The Last Laughlaments life s
predestined nature. Murnau dramatizes this lamentation through the contrast of the real with the
fanciful and through his use of doors.
From the first shot, The Last Laugh manages to be both hyper realistic and utterly whimsical. We
are whisked down the elevator and out the constantly revolving door into a city, that while
appearing to be real at first, is just a painted backdrop. But Murnau spares no expense to fool the
audience; he even has figures moving inside the painted towers, which to the untrained eye
cause the towers to seem real. Alas, the towers are fake, but these moving figures serve a larger
purpose than just to be a tool to suspend the audience s belief. They add to the busy aesthetic of
the The Last Laugh. The world Murnau has created is a hectic one where One day you are
preeminent, respected by all, as the opening title announces, and the next you are a nobody, and
before you know it, life has passed you by. This is the case for our unnamed protagonist (Emil
Jannings) who is now

Emily Grierson s Time
Time Does Not Stand Still Miss Emily Grierson was a proper lady of Jefferson. Unfortunately for
her, she came to live in a time when being a proper lady was no longer what was expected. She
avoided any sort of change coming to her life, and because of it, the world moved on without
her. The story takes place in the South, as is illustrated a few times throughout the story. It took
place some time between the 1860 s and the 1930 s, which illustrates the source of some
problems for Miss Emily. That was just after the civil war, and that was a period of great change
for the South. Not only did the South have to quickly extinguish slavery, it changed from
agriculture to factories with almost the same pace. Most of the people in Jefferson had someone
to go through these changes with, but Emily did not. Clearly her father was wealthy. He would
have owned a fair amount of slaves, one of whom was probably Tobe, the Negro... Show more

Before, she had not had anyone to help her through the change, but now she did not have anyone
at all. There was no one to remind her of the passage of time. The only one who might have done
this was Tobe, and as he was a Negro, he did not count in her mind. Homer probably helped her to
accept the fact that time was moving, yet as she was beginning to adjust, beginning to move with
time again, she lost him. He threatened to leave her, so she trapped him in time with her. William
Faulkner grew up in the South, which had a definite influence on his writing. Born in 1897, he
was too young to have watched slavery die, and yet he knew many of those who had. A Rose for
Emily could easily have had its beginnings in someone he knew through childhood. After all, he
watched those around him fall into poverty because their wealth was based on their human
property. Once they lost that, they lost their fortune as well. It must have been easy for William
Faulkner to picture them losing their mind as

Research Paper On Anonymous
Anonymous Anonymous, an infamous hacktivist group. Their slogan We are Anonymous. We are
Legion. We do not forgive. We do not forget. Expect us. Now, one can come to think that they
kind of sound like an underground rebel group. Which is what they are, but they do it all via the
internet. Once must also think, well how do they do it all via internet and not get caught? They
tunnel all their nodes and logs through private networks and encrypted chats. You may ask, what
do they fight for? Well it s obvious, they all fight for one thing: Freedom and a proper Government.
You can come to this conclusion just by taking a peek at their tweets, videos, speeches, and etc. It s
obvious that Anonymouss intended audience is anyone they can reach out to, not only does this
hacktivist group focus on American problems, but they also take third world countries problems
into consideration. So, with all this information, you re probably thinking, well how do they solve
America s problems? Anonymous isn t only a group that just tweets hashtags, and what not.
Anonymous is loosely organized group of hackers that attempt to use their skills to make a change.
But, not all Anonymous members are hackers, some join just to promote what the cause. For
example: @YouAnonNews on twitter, tweets operations that are going on, and daily news that has
grabbed the attention of Anonymous. Anonymous uses all types of social media to spread the word

Barn Burning Sarty Character Traits
In 1939, William Faulkner, introduced the short story Barn Burning. Barn Burning is about a ten
year old boy, Colonel Sartoris Snopes, and his inner conflict with his conscience to do the virtuous
thing. Colonel Sartoris, or Sarty, continuously deals with the repercussions of, his father, Abner
Snopes s delinquent actions. Throughout the story, Faulkner portrays Sarty as a dynamic character
with multiple characteristics as he conflicts with himself and his father. Because of Sarty s loyalty
and submissiveness to his familyhe feels obligated to conceal his father s crimes; however, Sarty s
innocent qualities alters his mindset to oppose his family.
In the beginning of the story, Faulkner describes Sarty as very loyal to his family. Sarty s
loyalty leads him to defend his father on numerous occasions. Abner drilled into Sarty s head that
family loyalty is more important than anything regardless if it is right or wrong. Enemy! Enemy!
(Faulkner 10). This quote describes Sarty s loyalty as he is in court believing anyone who is his
father s enemy is his. Sarty s loyalty for his family comes from a lifelong experience of dealing
with an abuse parent who uses scare tactics to influence his personality. Loyalty is a major theme
throughout the short story; although, Sarty s loyalty changes as he matures. ... Show more content

The source of Sarty s submissiveness is his father s abuse thst influences him to support his
actions. Abner Snopes pushes Sarty around knowing that he is going to do anything he makes
him. Not only are the boy s thoughts influential in coming to understand him, but they also play a
large role in portraying Sarty as a victim of unrelieved horror due to his father s poor decisions, as
well as of actual abuse (Hullender 3). Abner emotionally and physically abused Sarty making him
feel inferior to his father s power over him, until he eventually had

Tesco s Success At Tesco Essay
Tesco is one of the most famous stores in the UK with it being our biggest sales retailer earning
billions in profits. The statistics of the supermarket are extremely impressive with over 330,000
staff employed, being the third largest supermarket, over 16 million Clubcard users in the UK and
it being said that one pound in every seven has been spent at Tesco. All of this used to just be a
small stall in East London when it was created by Jack Cohen in 1919 simply selling groceries
making a profit of just ВЈ1 on the first day. Five years later, Cohen purchased a shipment of tea
and Tesco became a brand with its first store opening another five years later, in 1929, in North
London. Tesco is now not only just a grocery store, it also sells petrol (becoming the largest
independent petrol retailer in the UK), insurance, has its own bank, credit cards, loans along with
products such as its own clothing line F F, games consoles, televisions and sports equipment.
However, in 2014 Tesco had a shocking downfall when it had been revealed that they had
exaggerated their half year profit forecast by a massive ВЈ250 million.
The downfall of Tesco has resulted in their chief executive, Philip Clarke stepping down and their
UK chief executive Chris Bush, UK finance director Carl Rogberg, UK food commercial director
John Scouler and food sourcing director Matt Simister all being suspended after an investigation
into how it had happened. Tesco overstating their profits has affected them

  • 2. What Are The Positive And Negative Impact Of Immigration... LESSON 15 Immigration and Urban Growth Objectives: Identify which countries most of the immigrants came from and why immigrants flocked to the United States Identify the positive and negative impact of immigrants on the United States Identify the positive and negative traits of American Politics during this time period Immigrants and America, the Melting Pot begins. Between 1870 and 1920, about 20 million Europeans immigrated to the United States. Many of them came from eastern and southern Europe, which had not provided large numbers of immigrants before. Some, like Jews, fled religious persecution. Other immigrants came to the United States to escape economic hardship. Many left Europe full of ideas for reform and political freedom denied to them in the past. About 200,000 Chinese immigrants came from 1851 to 1883. Many thousand immigrants came from Japan as well. From 1880 to 1920, about 260,000 immigrants came from the Caribbean. Many Mexicans immigrated to the United States as well. Many Mexicans became part of the country when territory was added after the Mexican War. About a million immigrants came from 1910 to 1930 to escape turmoil in Mexico. Most immigrants traveled by steamship, riding in steerage, the cargo holds below the ship s waterline. Conditions were cramped, with little light or air and were unclean. Immigrants often suffered from disease. Immigrants who arrived in New York were processed at Ellis Island. The process, which took ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Provide 3 pieces of evidence to support the theme as it applies to each character. The Glass Menagerie , a memory play by Tennessee Williams, not only depicts the depressing and unhappy lives of the Winfield family at St. Louis around 1930 s, but also highlights the obstacle for Tom to pursuing his dreams under the family obligations; the obstacle for Laura to overcoming shyness and inferiorities to interact with the ... Standing on the fire escape outside the apartment and getting a cigarette allows Tom to temporarily find peace from Amanda s nagging inquisition and commands, as he said, I d rather smoke when Amanda complains to him about smoking too much. Through Amanda s sighing, A fire escape landing s a poor excuse for a porch , it reveals more clearly that the fire escape has already been a route where Tom could readily escape from the world of Amanda to a world of new dimensions. Other than Amanda, Tom is also trapped in the responsibility of supporting his mother and sister who are dependent on his wages to live, as he complained, Who pays the rent on it, who makes a slave of himself to... For sixty five dollars a month I give up all that I dream of doing and being ever! Furthermore, Tom despises the tedious job at the warehouse that stops him doing his own interests, as he cried out, You think I m in love with the Continental Shoemakers? ... I d rather somebody picked up crowbar and battered out my brains than going back mornings! All of these situations cause Tom to have an even stronger will of escape. Hence, going to movies or having drinks in the bar every night has been another way that Tom uses to escape and seek adventure to compensate for his dull and depressed life. • 4. 2. Language . The Tower Of Babel Is Symbolic Of The... 2. Language The Tower of Babel is symbolic of the fundamental differences between humans and gods. Humans are not meant to be completely self sufficient as God is, they should look upon God for guidance in their life. This message was ignored in the construction of the tower in which the two main motivations were to gain fame and to build a city to preserve unity (Interpreter s Concise Commentary, 17). Humans should never have the arrogance to try to become gods on earth through fame. Further, one should only preserve unity if that is God s plan. Even this looming, powerful structure pales in comparison to the greatness that God can accomplish, i.e. Humans can never reach the awesomeness and power of God. 3. Author Genesis is composed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 4. Intended Audience The intended audience for this pericope is clearly Jews during the Babylonian exile of 587 B.C. 538 B.C. This is seen in the setting of the story, the apocalyptic genre of the excerpt, and the detailed explanation of the building of the tower. This story is set in the land of Shinar (Genesis 11:2). Shinar is described as meaning Babylonia, the ancient state resting in the Tigris Euphrates river basin. Further, within the state of Babylonia, was the northern city of Babylon. The setting of Babylon for this ancient tradition indicates a 6th century, exiled Jewish audience as it establishes a basis for an apocalyptic message about their exile. The detailed description of the brick making process and bitumen (Genesis 11:3) also indicates a Jewish audience. A Jewish audience would have been familiar with sun dried bricks, with no archeological evidence of kiln fired bricks at this time in Palestine (Walton, 163). Mesopotamia however used expensive bitumen almost exclusively with kiln fired bricks (Walton, 163). Further these expensive building materials would have only been used for places, temples and other official buildings within a city (Walton, 163). The authors need to describe this practice indicates an audience new to this land and practice. Further, it s important to note that the author didn t feel the need to describe the actual ... • 9. Types And Subconscious Response By Effector 1.Reflexes are automatic and subconscious response to a stimulus. A reflex arc, the neural pathway that a nerve impulse follows, orchestrates the operation of reflexes. The following are parts of the reflex arc: a)The arrival of stimulus and activation of receptor: The receptors located in a sensory neuron detect a stimulus and generate a graded potential. If the strength of a stimulus is above the threshold, then an action potential is generated. b)Activation of a sensory neuron: The generated action potential is then carried to the spinal cord by the sensory neuron. c)Processing of information in the central nervous system (Interneuron or relay neuron): The sensory neuron synapse with the interneuron in the spinal cord. In the central nervous system, the responses are again graded at the synaptic junction. Now the interneuron conducts nerve impulses from the sensory neuron to a motor neuron. d)Activation of a motor neuron: The motor neuron now transmits nerve impulse to an effector. e)Response by effector: Effector is usually a muscle or gland. If the effector is smooth muscle, responses summate to produce action potentials in the smooth muscle, however, if the effector is skeletal muscle, the graded response is enough to produce an action potential. Depending on the situation, the effector generates an appropriate response. 2.Starling forces govern the exchange of fluids between capillaries and the interstitial space. This is going to be done by having predictive maintenance on the elongation of the chain in the escalators, rather than reactive maintenance. Currently, BART is reacting to the effects of chain elongation on escalators which causes maintenance to be rather expensive but most importantly inconvenient for customers. BART is currently doing this because some of the escalators are older so they do not have any automation associated with them. At this moment, when an escalator breaks down due to chain elongation there is major downtime to repair it because it is in need of emergency maintenance. With emergency reactive maintenance an ... The form of government in a certain country is achieved when the leader considers factors that could help him /her improve the country for the better. If Philippines would become an authoritarian again, I think it would work. But, being under an authoritarian system is not the answer for the problems in the country. Though, there are many benefits from being under an authoritarian system. One of these is that people would have discipline because the power is centralized and the rules are dependent on the leader. That leader is powerful because he/she is attached to a group of people. In an authoritarian system, a leader could not maintain his/her power when he/she is not attached to a group of people. Another benefit is that there would be an education for all because in an authoritarian system, there is a competition when it comes to being educated. The leader wants its citizens to be educated because he/she does not want to be left behind by other countries. It affects the economy of the country for the reason that if people are well educated, there is a high chance of them being competitive when it comes to marketing which leads to the growth of economy of the country. The leader wants the country to be as powerful as other countries, so he/she finds ways to make it happen. This is the good thing in authoritarian form; the leader is competitive just to make sure that its country can be considered as a powerful country. These happen because laws are well implemented. The Viability of Small Photovoltaic (PV) Systems Installation The purpose of this analysis is identification of the relative impact of economic factors for entities contemplating entry into the Midwest Region solar energy installation market as installers of solar photovoltaic energy systems (PV systems) for homes and small businesses. Many individuals are concerned with renewable energy. They believe it provides a reduction in utility consumption and cost. They also believe government subsidies, and environmental preservation makes the idea more attractive to potential clients. However, entry to the PV system installation market is not without financial risk. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2014). The third demand determinant evaluated is consumer taste. Scant information is available to gauge consumer preference for PV systems. A 2009 survey of 641 individuals and businesses in San Diego, California indicates 20 percent or fewer respondents would have PV systems installed without an available tax rebate, and most could not afford systems sufficiently large enough to meet all of their electrical needs (U.S. Department of Energy, 2009). The fourth determinant evaluated is population and demographics. Again little information is available to evaluate this determinant. In a subcontract report for the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, The Natural Marketing Institute indicates consumers in the Midwest are more price sensitive, and less aware of their available energy options than other national regions (Rogers, 2011). Additionally, the report states most consumers across all regions are concerned about renewable or sustainable energy yet few act upon their concerns. The final demand determinant evaluated is consumer expectation of future price. PV system prices are expected to decrease as photovoltaic technology evolves, and production increases. From 2012 2016 all PV markets are expected to grow by 25 30 percent, and the national weighted average of all system prices will drop 33 percent (Solar Energy Industries Association, 2012). Analysis Of The Twilight Saga The Cullen Family: More than just Blood Sucking Vampires The Twilight Saga, by Stephanie Meyer, has been viewed as a narrative of either teenage lust or romantic love characterized by Bella, a private seventeen year old girl, and Edward, a mysterious vampire who goes to Bella s high school; Yet no one has credited the Cullen s in the full light they deserve, in the way that they display family loyalty, self control, and altruism among their family of vampires. The book series infatuated the hearts of teenage girls across the world, and even expanded upon those horizons to reach an audience so wide that the book series became a household name. Critics have endlessly discussed the love, or lust, of the two individuals and are fascinated by the fact that the TwilightSaga falls not just in the genre of romance, but also in the supernatural/ horror category. Maple, in an article that discusses this barrier breaking love that Bella and Edward display, states throughout the story Bella and Edward share an unorthodox relationship, a love above and beyond all others: something more expressive of eternal commitment (Maple). Maple emphasizes how deep and rare the love between the two adolescents is, and I would argue that human s innate desire for this kind of love is one of the main reasons why Twilight became so widespread. One theme is dissatisfaction, which is a main reason when the characters end relationships with each other. The other theme is the indelibility of the past. Some characters had long term effects when their past was learned by other characters. People were not forgiven for their past as easy in the early nineteenth as they are today. The author used these themes very well, for people to assert into their life. Dissatisfaction is very major in The Mayor of Casterbridge because many relationships are broken and mended in the book. Those characters are dissatisfied with their current state of being, so they move on to a different stage in their life, which can lead to other relationships being repaired. The author is teaching the readers to move on, if something in their life is dissatisfying them. One example of a character being dissatisfied is when Newson fakes his death because he knows Susan is not satisfied and wants to go back to Michael Henchard. Susan found out that she didn t have to stay with Newson, so she wanted to go back to Henchard. Susan became unpleasant to be around, and Newson knew she wanted to go back to Henchard. Newson faked his death to satisfy Susan and bring happiness in her life. When Lucetta met Farfrae, she became dissatisfied with Henchard. To Lucetta, Farfrae was a younger and better version of Henchard. Lucetta was going to marry Henchard, but she knew that she should would not be happy with him. Authors use nonfiction literature to influence their reader through grit by showing us the strength they have in them and how they won t let anyone or anything come in between what they believe in. My first piece of literature comes from the reading of The Clever Class. Malala is the main character of this story. She stood up for the rights of girls. She always said that they weren t going to let the Taliban win or take the girls rights away. She stated We were scared, but our fear was not as strong as our courage. They all had the spirit to get through it. There was a part that Malala ran into some Taliban and she wanted to tell them out. The Theological Concept Of The Divine Mother Essay Debates on the theological concept of the Divine Mother The 20th century feminist criticism of the systems of re presentation have attempted to expose the system of power that authorises certain representations while blocking, prohibiting, or invalidating others .83 Corrington further evaluates that if this is true for modes of expressing concepts in general, it is even more true for modes of expressing religious concepts .84 Moreover, summarising Ochshorn s argument for the expression of such concepts in monotheistic religions, Corrington states that the limitation of a deity to a single dynamic personality entailed the assignment to that persona of a gender that was perceived as the least limited in its socio biological role .85 Such expression is seen in early Christianity, when Jesus as the incarnation of God has become a crucial model for the saviour of the human race.86 In the work of Ruether who argues for misappropriation of the saviour figure in the early Christian thought, the discussion on such gender limitation takes the most dramatic turn: Who is this saviour, and from what does he save us? This saviour of men comes to free men from birth, from women, from earth, and from limits. This saviour can only come in the image of the male. As God can only be imaged as male, as the male is the proper image of God, so the saviour too must be male.... .87 The key to understanding this tension lies in understanding of both the aforementioned expression of ... • 37. The Pros And Cons Of Freedom Of Marriage In America Though current day California is home state to an extensive multi racial population, the government did not uphold the state s egalitarian values until a mere fifty years ago. When the pool of the California ethnic population began to broaden in the 20th century, many newcomers were denied the right to equal opportunities. Minorities suffered under the heavy hand of segregation, lacking basic constitutional rights and adequate political representation. Perhaps one of the most unfortunate instances of these anti democratic sentiments were the segregation limits set on freedom of marriage. The first anti miscegenationlaw in America was established over 350 years ago, in Colonial Maryland under British Law. The law inhibited whites from marrying African American slaves, and deemed that any white woman married to a slave would too become a slave herself. However, this failed to draw distinction between enslaved and free blacks, and did not criminalize the white man who wed a black woman. Soon after Maryland, the Commonwealth of Virginia banned all forms of interracial marriage, deeming violators to be penalized with exile or death. Those that were found ministering miscegenistic weddings were heavily fined. Many colonies followed Virginia and adapted these tenets soon after. Memory has become a very important element in philosophy when we look at some researches carried out in the last century. The fact that many philosophers such as Socrates, Plato and Aristoteles concentrated on memory densely is still a mystery to be solved. One of the most important models for memory is Atkinson Shiffrin theory. After this experiment, lower performance in other processes has been identified with filling digital memory. However, this lower performance has been less than expected. At the end of this experiment, Baddeley points out that working memory is not one type, but consists of the components of a lot of issues. The ability to affirm one s necessity of privacy is imperative to the development of who they are, and how they form an identity that is not dictated by the social conditions that directly or indirectly influence their thinking, decisions, and behaviors. • 40. Essay On Jim Crow Laws The Jim Crow Laws were unlawfully placed in the south in order to take away blacks rights. Therefore, The whites enforcing this took away their social freedoms, educational rights, and voting rights. These actions separated and increase tension between blacks and whites. These events go against what America was originally created for; a place to pursue life, liberty, and happiness. Jim Crow Lawswere intended to discriminated against blacks and separate them from whites. Viewing the Jim Crow Laws through a social lens, blacks were unlawfully separated from whites. For example, the segregation was taken to extreme when it was deemed that it shall be unlawful to conduct a restaurant or other place for the serving of food in the city, at which white and colored people are served in the same room ( Jim Crow Laws ). The fact that whites were offended and disgusted about eating in the same room as blacks is appalling, ignorant, and discriminatory from a modern sense. Jim Crow Laws ostracized blacks in not only restaurants, but also in other public places such as parks. • 43. Summary Of Murnau s The Last Laugh Friedrich Willhelm (F.W.) Murnau s The Last Laugh (1924) holds a special place within silent film (Bordwell 2016). It is the film that made Murnau popular with American audiences, and in turn, its success lead him to move to Hollywood and eventually make masterpieces (not to say that The Last Laugh itself isn t a masterpiece), such as Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans (1927). Both films evoke the surreality of life, but unlike the celebratory SunriseВё The Last Laughlaments life s predestined nature. Murnau dramatizes this lamentation through the contrast of the real with the fanciful and through his use of doors. From the first shot, The Last Laugh manages to be both hyper realistic and utterly whimsical. We are whisked down the elevator and out the constantly revolving door into a city, that while appearing to be real at first, is just a painted backdrop. But Murnau spares no expense to fool the audience; he even has figures moving inside the painted towers, which to the untrained eye cause the towers to seem real. Alas, the towers are fake, but these moving figures serve a larger purpose than just to be a tool to suspend the audience s belief. They add to the busy aesthetic of the The Last Laugh. The world Murnau has created is a hectic one where One day you are preeminent, respected by all, as the opening title announces, and the next you are a nobody, and before you know it, life has passed you by. This is the case for our unnamed protagonist (Emil Jannings) who is now ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Unfortunately for her, she came to live in a time when being a proper lady was no longer what was expected. She avoided any sort of change coming to her life, and because of it, the world moved on without her. The story takes place in the South, as is illustrated a few times throughout the story. It took place some time between the 1860 s and the 1930 s, which illustrates the source of some problems for Miss Emily. That was just after the civil war, and that was a period of great change for the South. Not only did the South have to quickly extinguish slavery, it changed from agriculture to factories with almost the same pace. Most of the people in Jefferson had someone to go through these changes with, but Emily did not. Clearly her father was wealthy. Homer probably helped her to accept the fact that time was moving, yet as she was beginning to adjust, beginning to move with time again, she lost him. He threatened to leave her, so she trapped him in time with her. William Faulkner grew up in the South, which had a definite influence on his writing.
