The Battle over Safe Injection Sites
Insite: The Battle over Supervised Injection Sites
In the 1990 s there was an epidemic of HIV outbreaks in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver.
Injection drug users were found to be the leading cause of this, and a public health emergency was
declared (Fafard, 2012). The mortality and morbidity resulting from this increasing injection drug use
became a major political issue. This resulted in the adoption of harm reduction by the government as
one of their four pillars of their drug strategy (Fafard, 2012). Harm reduction is a set of practical
strategies and ideas aimed at reducing negative consequences associated with drug use (Boyd, 2013).
In September 2003 Insite, North Americas first harm reduction supervised injection site, ... Show more

There was also no increase of users relapsing into injection drug use, nor did it negatively influence
those seeking to stop drug use (Kerr et al., 2006). The research shows that Insite has not promoted
increased illicit drug injection, but rather it has attracted individuals with histories of injection drug
use.
Another claim put forth by the Conservatives is that SISs are harmful to communities. They believe
SISs create public nuisances, and threaten public safety (Broadhead, Kerr amp; Alice, 2002). Research
on the other hand argues that SISs can address issues related to public. Since Insite opened the public
has noticed less public injections, less syringe droppage, and less complaints about drug user
nuisances (Potier et al., 2014). It also cleans up public environment such as streets and alleyways.
Drug use is still an illicit activity and it takes place in unsterile environments such as behind
dumpsters and shooting galleries. SISs provide sterile environments for users and are a lot safer than
shooting up in the streets. This leads to less public injection and a better community environment
(Potier et al., 2014). Local police data was also evaluated and there has been no increase in crime,
violence, or drug trafficking around Insite. There were no significant statistical changes in rates of
drug trafficking. There were 124 incidents in the year before and 116 incidents after. There were 147

Assisted Suicide Debate Analysis
As the political debates are in full action, I am certainly aware of the discussion of controversial
topics. Although assisted suicide is not among the topics, however I do understand the difficulties of
addressing sensitive topics. The following assignment is a reflection on Helping a Suicide When the
End Isn t Near. First, I ll introduce the debaters as well as their background and position on this
controversial topic. Next, I will address my view and rationale pertaining to the topic.
An opinionated article, Helping a Suicide When the End Isn t Near, published by the New York Times
includes segments from both Mark Kleiman and Ira Byock who share their opinions on whether or not
assisted suicide should be legal in the United States. Kleiman, who insist that laws prohibiting assisted
suicide must be erased, is a professor of public policy at New York University s Marron Institute of
Urban Management, whereas Byock, who is completely opposed to any law change, is a professor of
medicine at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College. Kleiman and Byock have
compelling, but opposing viewpoints on this controversial subject, and each rule the other to be highly
unethical.
In the article, Kleiman states his belief that laws prevent people who need help in dying ... Show more

After reviewing both segments between the debaters, It s hard to definitively state whether I support or
oppose the legalization of assisted suicide. With that being said, I see both sides of the argument,
however, if put on a spectrum, I lean more towards the support of assisted suicide. I believe if the
patient is competent as well as the one who has requested to take this course of action, it certainly can
be justified. In addition, I personally believe in quality of life, not longevity. There are many incurable
diseases out there, making people s life intolerable, stealing their sense of life and giving a strong
incentive to

Pros And Cons Of Creating The Budget
I was assigned to cut the budget for year 1 and year 2 by $750,000 (total of $1.5 million over 2 years)
by the CEO. I took a comprehensive look at the budget and my recommendations are that we should
cut the number of participants from 1000 to 910 and let go of 3 staff members. These reductions
would have a cascading effect and help us to cut the budgets of both years by 750,000 dollars.
I believe that the quality of our program is more important than the number of participants we serve.
Consequently, I propose to
decrease the number of participants by 9% (90 participants) for year 1 and year 2. This cut would
cause minimum harm to the program because we would be able to serve the other 910 participants
without decreasing services, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Subsequently, helping us reach our desired program outcomes. The average cost of a certification is
$75 and for our initial budget, we assumed that half of the participants would get these certifications.
In our new budget, this ratio would be maintained, however as we have fewer participants, we would
only need to budget for 455 certifications decreasing our budget by $3,375 for year 1 and year 2.
Another important service that our program offers is background checks. These checks help increase
the number of placements and retentions. Our initial budget reflected that each background check
costs $50 and approximately half of the participants would require a background check. The new
budget for year 1 and year 2 would still maintain the same ratio but due to a decrease in participants,
we would only need to budget for 455 participants. This would help us cut the budget by $2,250 for
year 1 and year 2 without harming the program.
Career advisors are an essential part of our program. Career advisors transitional help participants
during their transitional employment, which is usually for the first 4 6 months of the program. My
recommendation would be to fire 2 of these advisors as this would allow us to decrease our budget by
$80,000 for year 1 and 2. Currently, these advisors serve 500 participants and their maximum
participants to staff ratio is 35:1. Our initial budget

Marie Curie During World War 1
Encounter Marie Curie fits the theme perfectly in another way, encounter. She had a troublesome time
getting the education she needed, and even when she presented a reasonable hypothesis, it was all but
brushed off because she was not respected. Curie also had an encounter with the Solvay conference,
which was a gathering of some of the greatest minds at the time. One of the most important things
Curie did was help during World War One by inventing and distributing portable x ray machines to
help aid soldiers.
Opposition in Education In her early childhood, Marie Curie was a fantastic student, getting
wonderful grades in her classes. The problem came after she had finished secondary school; the
University of Warsaw was men only. This meant that Curie could not continue her education at the
normal university. Curie also applied to other schools, which turned her down either because she was
a woman or because she had a Jewish background. She had to go elsewhere to lean, and in this case
the answer was the Warsaw floating universities . These were underground, informal, and illegal
classes that were held in secret to continue her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

of radiation. At the start of World War One, most of her friends and coworkers had been drafted to
fight in the war. Curie realized that the x rays could help save lives by allowing doctors to see bullets
and shrapnel lodged deep under the skin. After much convincing, she got France s first military
radiology centers set up. Curie was appointed Director of the Red Cross Radiology Service, and not
long after started accepting money from rich supporters to fund the department. She asked for body

Rabbit Proof Fence Power
Power Power abuse is an important idea in the film and shown by dialogue, props and camera work
An important idea in the film Rabbit Proof Fence directed by Phillip Noyce is that power is something
that could be manhandled. At the point when power begins being manhandled, we see individuals
getting hurt, families being torn away and other battling to return home. Mr A.O Neville is the official
defender of the Aborigine individuals. He utilizes this power to take away the young girls Molly,
Daisy and Gracie from their family in Jigalong. This causes the 3 young girls to leave the Moore River
Settlement and try to find their way home. Power is mishandled from numerous points of view by Mr
Neville (Mr Devil). This demonstrates Mr Neville has no appreciation for the native individuals due to
how he manhandle his power. Mr Neville manhandle his power since he trusts that blacks are second

a part of the 1930 s. For instance autos, weapons, structures and garments. This apparent in the start of
the film when Constable Riggs comes quickly speeding into the native town Jigalong. This
demonstrates the props are utilized to demonstrate the misuse of force. Another case of the misuse of
force utilizing props would need to be when Gracie is misdirect toward the train station. Despite the
fact that we don t see her take the train, we see her endeavor to flee from the cops. She comes up short
as she is gotten by the two men. Gracie is then taken back to Moore River in auto. The prop is utilized
to demonstrate that Mr Neville mishandle his energy when he arranges constable Riggs to get Gracie.

Environmental Effects Of Desertification
Background: Desertification is the degradation of land and soil in dryland ecosystems caused by both
the climate and human activities. In the year 2000, one third of the population of the earth dwelled in
dryland ecosystems, and drylands are 41% of world s land. The effect of desertification is massive
because of the amount of people that live in affected areas. Drylands facilitate 44% of the food
production in the world and 50% of livestock, so these ecosystems are a very important source of
resources. 2.6 billion people depend of the food developed in drylands and many of those people have
jobs making the food. 52% of the land is being affected in some way by degradation because it
removes the moisture that is needed to grow or herd food. Around 800 million people are going
hungry and around 80% of these people are small land owners or they do not own any land and are
very poor. This means that those small land owners might not have any land in the end because of the
deterioration of healthy soil. Land degradation also effects water quantity and quality. Clean water is
one of the most important resources in the world, and desertification eliminates that resource. 74% of
those in poverty are directly affected by land degradation. 10 20% of drylands are degraded already.
The places most effected by desertification are sub Saharan and Central Asia drylands. Desertification
occurs for various reasons. It can come from a failure to balance how much the ecosystem can give as

Supersize Me Documentary Analysis
The Ethos of Participatory Documentaries
When it comes to persuasive drive, classically the appeal for change derives from Aristotle s ethos,
pathos, and logos. By using these three appeals, one could formulate a presentation of public speaking
that tailors best to the target audience. The same logic can be applied to the modern medium of
documentary. According to Bill Nichols, documentary serves as a narrative form of reality in which
the filmmaker layers an argument (Nichols 2010). Some films such as Ken Burns work or a direct
cinema piece such as Salesman relay heavily on factual narratives that uses logos to convey historical
fact almost to the point of an informative lecture. Typically these types of documentaries are
structured in either ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Let s go into more detail with each. According to Nichols, the indexical bond is the connection
between the image and what it represents. Spurlock s experiment gives the audience between the
spectacle indexical bond between his weight gain and health deterioration and the promotion to not eat
fast food. While it doesn t appeal well to scientists, it gives visual appeal to a general audience. The
second reason why the experiment works is that it gives creditability to Spurlock. While the purpose
of ethos in the general sense will be discussed latter on, the experiment serves as a means in which
Spurlock creates creditability. It has this ability because Spurlock shows his determination and
willingness to dive into a potentially dangerous situation in order to create his message. As the film
continues, the documentary allows the audience to empathize with Spurlock s experience. The last
point argues that experiment appeals well to the audience because it is relatable to everyday life.
Unlike with many other documentaries that dives into less recognizable and unique corners of life,
Supersize Me dives right into something that is in front of everybody every day. This makes it easily
applicable with the audience. Now that the front narrative

named Amelia. From kindergarten to 6th grade, we were good friends. Then, everything seemed to fall
apart. Now, she seems to almost despise me for reasons that I do not know and hope to find out. Well
from kindergarten to the end of third grade I was at St. Bridget s in Watervliet. Then, from fourth
grade to the first three weeks of sixth grade I was at St. Ambrose. Most of my friends from St. Bridget
s went to St. Ambrose after St. Bridget s closed in third grade; so, I didn t really need to make a lot of
new friends or worry about being shy, because at that time in my life I was very shy. While I was at St.
Ambrose, I made a friend name John, whom I still know and happens to go to CCHS Catholic Central
High School (My current school) too. While I was at St. Ambrose, I pretty much did most of the
bulletin board designing for my fourth grade teacher, Mr. Balcavage. He was really tall and he had
huge hands. Some times in class he would pat some of us on our heads, and for most of us, his hand
could have palmed our heads. While I was in fourth grade, my class and I were doing a project on the

The Islamic Caliphates During The Post Prophethood Time Essay
As the days of the Prophet Muhammad s life came to an end, the state of the Muslim community
demanded for sincere and rightful authority. Therefore, a caliph, someone claiming control over the
Muslims, was appointed. Although the caliphs were not prophets, their centralized purpose was to
continue the straight path of Prophet Muhammad, politically, economically, and spiritually. During the
rule of the 4 caliphates, Abu Baker, Umar Ibn Al Khattab, Uthman Ibn Affan and Ali, the Muslims
underwent a series of developments, movements, and conquests. The Islamic caliphates in the post
Prophethood time period, provided leadership and social unity for Middle Eastern communities to
follow into modern times. The caliphates represented an ideal example through their political,
economical, and religious enforcements. When the Prophet was ordered through revelation to make
the message of Islam public, hostility to the message rose and in response, the Prophet instilled hope
amongst the muslims. Early revelations stressed the existence of one god and presented His attributes,
which laid out basic elements of social and personal morality. These revelations redirected the
individual from materialistic goals to a life dedicated to worship. In the tenth year of Hijra, the
Prophet led 30,000 people on a pilgrimage to Mecca. On the plain of Arafat, the Prophet stood up and
gave the farewell sermon. In the sermon he encouraged muslims to remain united, you are one
brotherhood all together ,

The Religious Freedom Of America
Religious Freedom of America
In this is paper I m going to tell you about the religious freedom we have in America and how it s
uniquely American. There are many reason we have religious freedom in America, One being that it s
a law. I m going to tell who wrote the bill of rights that made religious freedom a law and why they
wrote it. I ll tell you about the people who fight in war just to make sure we have this freedom among
other freedoms. I ll talk about how America is one place where we have a choose an say in our
religion. I m going to tell about the religions you can choose to be for example Christian.
What is religious freedom to you? To me religious freedom is a choose of religion. The law states that
religious freedom is the right to choose a religion (or no religion) without interference by the
government. Freedom of religion is guaranteed by the First Amendment. You might be wondering
what are amendments there laws in the bill of right there are ten of them.
Who wrote the bill of rights? The answer to that question is James Madison, George Mason. Both of
these men are from different backgrounds. I ll tell you about the different backgrounds starting with
James Madison. James Madison was born in October 5, 1944, York County, Pennsylvania, PA. He had
a wife named Dolley Madison James didn t have kids Dolley did though his name was John Payne

Pros And Cons Of Ancient Empires
The economy has been essential for empires and kingdoms throughout the human history. It was the
main reason that caused the appearance of nobility and political organization after the specialization
occurred just in the beginning of the Neolithic revolution. Later on, during the mid bronze age,
Governments were mostly not able to sufficiently feed their needs as all the societies were used to
acquire some of their demands using trade. Even if they were able to, the greed to possess more
luxurious and exotic goods had always kept the path open for nations to trade. Late Bronze Age was a
period of mass trade between superpowers, as most of them were well fed and introduced to none

and wealth challenges they had. Although different cultures had various ... Show more content on

The body of our evidences and documentations is very small, but as the few we have can illustrate,
Ships were mainly the best option to choose and luxurious goods, were the most wanted type of
goods. These can be supported by reasonable proofs. For instance, ships were most likely to be used
as the top notch carriers. Most of the civilization centers and important cities were located whether on
the banks of the rivers or coastlines. As a result of the potential lack of quality or insufficient distance
of the roads, carriers but ships had problems delivering items safe and on time. Moreover, luxurious
goods seem to be the most demanded items during those days, as our evidences show that emperors
and kings, were well divided from the society and mostly had a divine role, thus, luxurious goods
were potentially of a symbol of prosperity and power, to persuade people to accept the superiority of
their king, encourage generals to fight harder and also sometimes to use them as a gift to buy other

The Colonialism Of Vietnam By The French
The colonialism of Vietnam by the French lasted for approximately six decades. In the late of 1880s,
the French had the control of the Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos, commonly known as the French
Indochina (Indochine Francais) (Mason 7). As such, Indochina was able to assume the status of being
the lucrative colonial possessions of the French. It became the French empire, which spanned the
western and northern Africa, the Caribbean and Pacific empires. The French formulated the civilizing
mission as a way of justifying their imperialism in the land. Such mission existed as a form of the
white man burden for the English. The imperialists from France made claims that they had the

Such policy resulted into carving of the nation into three separate provinces, namely the Cochinchina
in the South, Annam on the central coast, and Tonkin in the North. Each of the provinces had a
separate administration since there was no national authority of identity.
Reason for Colonization:
Profit gains acted as the main factor triggering French colonization of Indochina to be in their
presence. The French companies and the colonial officials engaged in the transformation of the
Vietnam subsistence economy to a system that is proto capitalist on the bases of low wages and
exports, increased production, and land ownership (Kolko 7). Thus, the Vietnamese never worked for
their profits, but for the benefit of the colonies of the French.
The French also had a chance of acquiring great tracks of land and reorganization of the same into
plantations. The small landholders had the option of being laborers in the plantations or having to
relocate to other places. In case shortfalls in labor were experienced, the farmers from Vietnam had to
be recruited from other outlying villages (Mason 11). These farmers could even come to work
voluntarily after being promised that they will have higher wages. In other cases, they were
conscripted at gunpoint.
The plantations had cash crops, which were rubber and rice. The French also built mines of taping the
deposits of zinc, tin, and coal,

Theme Analysis of Carson McCuller s A Domestic Dilemma
Carson McCuller s story A Domestic Dilemma depicts a family torn by both compassion and
suffering. Martin, a loving and understanding husband must deal with his family s problems. Martin s
wife, Emily, distraught by her new environment, initiates her family s difficulties with her drinking
habits. The story examines a family s severe problems, and yet also illustrates the depth of love and
loyalty that allows people to survive adversity. McCullers examines within the depth of one family
how the full spectrum of love can destroy the romantics of love.

environment on her family(100). Many flaws exist within this family;however, the family still seeks
comfort in one another.
Although Martin s family faces dilemmas, the love in the family remains evident. Initially, the
devotion that Martin shows towards his children illustrates his good nature. Martin views his children
s faces as radiant as flower petals, equally loved (103). Moreover illustrating his love for his children,
Martin kissed the tiny hand that lay palm upward (103). Furthermore, Martin s hope to hold his family
together exhibits his affection for his family. Martin constantly attempts to calm his wife in order to
avoid displays of anger(101). Please go upstairs, (101) Martin begs of his wife so the children do not
get upset seeing their mother frustrated. Lastly, the physical and emotional desire for Emily that
Martin has, further shows how he cares for his family. Comforting his wife, Martin exhibits his love
for her(104). Martin watched Emily as she slept and his old anger vanished (104).
McCullers fully examines the immense complexities of love (104) in depicting both the conflict an

Separation Anxiety Disorders
There are several treatment options for separation anxiety disorder in children. The golden standard
treatment of separation anxiety and other anxiety disorders is cognitive behavioral therapy, also
known as CBT (Ehrenreich, Santucci, Weiner, 2008). There are a couple of goals for this approach
that involve both the child and parent (James, James, Cowdrey, Soler, Choke, 2015). These
researchers state that one of the goals is for the child to be able to recognize their own anxious feelings
and their physiological responses when they experience anxiety. Another goal is for the child to have
an ability to identify and control their thoughts during experiences that are anxiety provoking for
them. Therapists want children with separation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, referrals can be made by the therapist for different mental health services, since individuals who
end their CBT treatment often worry that they ll have the same symptoms. These services will be
helpful for children and adolescents with separation anxiety disorder, since there are high risks of
suicide within this population (American Psychiatric Association, 2013).
There are different procedures for CBT that can help children with separation anxiety disorder. A
procedure within this therapeutic approach that is proven to work for children and adolescents with
separation and other anxiety disorders is systematic desensitization, which is an intervention that
decreases anxiety and fears within an individual (Friedberg McClure, 2015). The process usually
entails experiencing something that is anxiety provoking to a client and pairing it with a calming
technique such as relaxation. For this intervention to be successful, hierarchies of anxiety for the client
must be established so that they are being met and all aspects of anxiety must be understood by the
therapist. A cognitive treatment in CBT is imagery, which is a form of relaxation that is used for
decreasing stress and providing relief to the individual (Cully Teten, 2008). This intervention focused
on the individual to gain back physical, emotional, and cognitive control of their thoughts, and is
really affective for forms of anxiety.

Before The Tylenol Crisis
Introduction
In January 1886 a renowned family business, Johnson Johnson was founded in New Brunswick, New
Jersey, by Robert Wood Johnson along with his brothers James Wood Johnson and Edward Mead
Johnson. These three recognized physicians were inspired at the time by Joseph Lister, who was a
pioneer of antiseptic surgery, seized the opportunity and started the company. This Company was
established at a time when sterile surgical practices were deficient in the medical field. The success of
their medical products, including sterile sutures and dressing materials, allowed the young company to
grow rapidly. Thus, Johnson and Johnson today emerged from a small company that made surgical
dressings into a multinational pharmaceutical giant.

The Corrupting Influence Of Corporations On Politics
The Corrupting Influence of Corporations on our Politics
As one of the very first political bosses of the modern era once said, There are two things that are
important in politics. The first is money, and I can t remember the second (Bartlett, 2009). Even
president elect Donald Trump once said in 2015, I gave to many people...When I need something from
them two years later...they are there for me. And that s a broken system (Schwarz, 2015). The issue of
money in politics has been widely recognized for decades by many and little has been done about it.
The president elect recognized it was an issue, yet participated nonetheless.
The elimination of political expenditures by corporations is necessary in order to restore the principle
of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People can express their opinion by giving money to some organization or even a political candidate
in order to further their own ideas. Sometimes this medium is the only one where the feel their voice is
actually heard. Therefore, it is logical for people to be allowed to donate to any organization that they
believe shares their deeply held convictions. But contrary to the decision of Supreme Court in the
Citizens United case that Spending is speech, and is therefore protected by the Constitution even if the
speaker is a corporation, corporations are not citizens which should be protected under the constitution
(Dunbar, 2012). They are large entities that are made up of potentially thousands that could not
possibly share all of the same beliefs. Therefore, corporations should not be allowed to give unlimited
sums of money to organizations that then perform electioneering communications ads that advocate
for a candidate s election or defeat (Epstein, 2015). This money is likely coming from the top
executives only and does not represent every single employee or shareholder. This type of donation
labels every employee from a corporation as supporting the recipient of the donation, but that could
never be true in a corporation of any substantial size. This legalization of corruption can be traced

Suicide And The Creative Class
Suicide has been a leading cause of death in the United States of America since 2009. It is the tenth
leading cause of death and has increased since 2008 by .9%. Additionally, suicide is in the top 15 of
leading deaths in 2009. Heart disease and diabetes which are also top leading deaths have decreased
from 2008 2009. The only cause of death to have increased from 2008 2009 in the US is suicide.
Yet, suicide also affects different kinds of individuals which happen to be of distinct racial and ethnic
status. The socioeconomic status also plays a role in determining the individuals who commit suicide.
In the article Suicide and the Creative Class, it states the following, Thus, different groups will be
more or less likely to commit suicide. These differences make suicide an important area of study for
social scientists because of its prevalence, preventability, and the wide sweeping effects that it has on
family, friends, and acquaintances of suicide victims (Moore, Recker, Heirigs, 2014). Thus,
implicating the pressures of society and the differences of social status.
Furthermore, social scientists have not been too involved in the topic of suicide. Since 1990 2009
there have not been many article on the topic and the disinterest can derive from the presumption that
suicide is a lonesome act. The article Suicide and the Creative Class, states that, Durkheim ([1897]
2006) illustrated that suicide is a social phenomenon by stating that levels of integration and

Blood In Macbeth s Role Of Blood Play
Macbeth Role of Blood Play
The violence and the blood that results are important symbols in Shakespeare s Macbeth and Lady
Macbeth. The blood imagery for Macbeth and Lady Macbeth is guilty, murder, remouse and power. It
shows Macbeth had killed King Duncan, Banquo and the Guards to get what he want for him to be a
king in Shakespeare. Lady Macbeth The story illustrates the act of murder has changed Macbeth s
character. But it no longer does the blood connote an image of ambition; it now symbolizes guilt,
remorse, and an entry into the gates of hell from which no one can return. Macbeth laments that not
even all the water in the sink will wash the blood off his hands, he is beginning to realize the
immensity of his crime, and that he has done something truly evil. Macbeth say, It will have
blood, they say. Blood will have blood./ By magot pies and choughs and rooks brought forth/ The
secret st man of blood./ What is the night? (Act III, Scene 4, Lines 122 126). The imagined blood
haunts both characters, following them until their death.
The main theme of Macbeth is he a courageous Scottish general who is not naturally inclined to
commit evil deeds, yet he deeply desires power and advancement. Toward the end of the play he
descends into a kind of frantic, boastful madness. Lady Macbeth, on the other hand, pursues her goals
with greater determination, yet she is less capable of withstanding the repercussions of her immoral
acts. Macbeth says Will all great Neptune s ocean wash this blood/ Clean from my hand? Macbeth
cries after he has killed Duncan, even as his wife scolds him and says that a little water will do the job
(Act II, Scene 2, Lines 58 59).The different reaction in Macbeth is stunned and seemingly in shock
after he has killed Duncan. He tells his wife he heard voices. Some of those voices were real people
talking in their sleep or saying their prayer before bed.
This same blood symbolism continues when Macbeth, shortly after he sees the ghost of the murdered
Banquo at his feast, goes into a state of shock and has to be escorted back to his chamber by Lady
Macbeth. He tells Lady Macbeth before he goes to sleep, All causes shall give way: I am in blood /

Cargo Transport Evolved From When The Cargo Industry
Background
Shipping a package/parcel to anybody around the world today seems easy and convenient; the thought
of what the carrier goes through does not cross anybody s mind. The airline industry in cargo transport
evolved from when the cargo industry began. When comparing all airliners in cargo transport, all the
basics for carrying cargo seems to be the same. First aircraft and crew safety must be adhered to and
proper weigh and balance must be accomplished. Inspection of the cargo is critical! Proper weight,
hazardous material, and dimensions must be physically checked. Finally, all paperwork must be
compiled...but, how did all this came to be? When all this started back in 1918 and Air Mail service
begun, I bet nobody checked all these precautions we do today. Possibly loaded the aircraft with as
much bags of mail in the cargo hold as the aircraft could hold and attempt a takeoff. After having
much success the U.S. post office took over all responsibilities for the War Department, and so we
begin. (Vassilopanagos, A. 2015)
History of FedEx
After the end of the war in 1944 there was an abundant supply of military pilots, ten of which came
from the 1st American Volunteer Group (AVG). They were experienced in hauling freight and started
their own company calling it National Skyway Freight, which later became known as the Flying Tiger
Line. The company utilized surplus aircraft purchased from the Navy and created a transcontinental
route across the United States.

Symbolism In Battle Royal
The short story, Battle Royal by Ralph Ellison, a blindfold is used as one of the major symbols of the
story. The blindfold symbolizes the narrator s inability to see the battle he is truly up against. The
African American narrator of the short story is invited to give a speech at a gathering of some of the
towns white citizens after successfully delivering the same speech at his graduation. When the narrator
arrives he is subjected to doing horrifying things. One of which is having to blindly and brutally fight
some of his black schoolmates all of whom are also blindfolded. While the narrator is in the ring
taking hard hits, his thoughts return speech. He is so focused on delivering a speech of quality that
will win over the white audience. The narrator states, The harder we fought the more threatening the
men became. And yet, I had begun to worry about my speech again. How would it go? Would they

In Hawaii, the state oversees all schools, and separates them by complex area. Data is usually

areas differ, but between 52 percent and 88 percent of students are economically disadvantaged (State

English language learner (ELL) students (State of Hawaii Department of Education, 2014). Also,
according to the U.S. Department of Education (n.d.), in the 2012 2013 school year, there were

Persuasive Essay On Paying For College
Paying for College When entering high school many students already know what they want to do
when they grow up ; however, many students do not know how they will pay for the college education
to get them there. Some students will strive for the best grades possible to earn scholarship money to
have college funded for them, others will mess around, and end up wishing they had tried harder, and
having to pay for college themselves. Those students will have to have a job during college to be able
to afford books, tuition, and any other fun things they might wish to do while they are away from
home at college. College students working to pay for college tuition or pay off college debt have less
entitlement, more responsibility, and take greater pride in their education; however, college students
who have their college fully funded may feel more entitled around the college campus, have less focus
towards studies, and spend more time at parties, finally they will never understand how much their
education was truly worth. While each student may receive the same education, the values and
attitudes each student has can be even more valuable than the college education itself. Being a young
college student takes a lot of dedication and responsibility; however, being a college student and
working a job to pay for college at the same time takes even more responsibility and dedication.

device. What would be the best and the cheapest option? Should you get Xbox One, PlayStation 4 or
PC? At first, I was thinking to buy PlayStation but at the end, I decided to build a custom gaming PC.
I will list some of the benefits of PCs over consoles and the process to build cheap PC for gaming,
Hardware price Game consoles are cheap if you compare the price to a high end gaming PC. The
earning logic behind consoles is to make the profit from game selling and sell the consoles with lost.
The gaming PCs sold by manufacturers like Asus or Dell are usually high end devices with a high
price tag. To compete with console price you can build a custom gaming PC with almost the same
cost. Gaming PC cost can be cut even further by using used parts from eBay and other sites. Game
prices Consoles have their own ecosystems and user is limited to buy games through official channels
usually through manufacturers online game store. PC games have multiple channels where users can
buy games with more competitive price. Most popular is Valves Steam Online store. Valve makes

Moral Repercussions Of Discrimination
Generally people or groups become stigmatized when they are singled out from their communities or
their social environments. Being stigmatic is not a way to win over moral acceptance. When
individuals are set out or even profiled they often feel as if they have been uprooted and a subject of
discrimination. Which makes them loose faith in there government. Moral repercussions like this
effect individuals and communities as a whole and can have serious and negative impacts when
groups or individuals speak out and acknowledge the discrimination. This can lead to social or cultural
tensions within a governed body. Arguments stating that unspecified surveillance is unfair because it
treats law abiding citizens like suspects without prior wrongdoing miss the point. The risks of

Which is most certainly discrimination. When individuals are subjected to repercussions of
discrimination they often feel as if the standards of the community have not been meet. If they are
innocent of any wrongdoing the individual may show resentment towards the authority. Ultimately
leading to disobedience and distrust, which is exactly what you are trying to prevent. Using the most
un invasive method of surveillance shows the most promising results. The lower the amount of
magnification on the individual, results in less stigmatization. Blanket or patch screenings are great
examples of low magnification implications of surveillance work. They do target specific places such
as airports or schools. But do not discriminate based off any other facts other than attendance of the
establishment itself. They screen these places as a whole so no one in the establishment is
discriminated or treated unequally because of an undesirable trait. These types of screenings and
surveillance methods often show promise both in social acceptance and in interception

Postcolonial Writing In Things Fall Apart By Chinua Achebe
Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart is a modern example of postcolonial literature and is one of the
most influential pieces of its genre. Postcolonial writing presents important themes and lessons of
justice, equality, and freedom that can be applied to present times. It reminds us of how important our
freedoms are and why we need to protect them. The colonized write about their exploitation and show
how there is persecution in their colonized society. Postcolonial authors use specific methods to
undermine their colonizers and reveal their backward logic. Things Fall Apart has various examples of
meta narrative, decolonization struggles, and colonial discourse worked in throughout the novel.
Chinua Achebe s writing styles showcase these techniques to subvert his European colonizers.
Meta narrative is an important method that postcolonial authors use to show the colonizer s
intolerance in the way they structure their stories. These authors point out these strategic ways that
colonizers write so you can more easily see their bias and prejudice when addressing the colonized.
Things Fall Apart has many instances of meta narrative, both big and small.
One clear meta narrative example that Chinua Achebe writes: The story of this man who had killed a
messenger and hanged himself would make interesting reading. One could almost write a whole
chapter on him. Perhaps not a whole chapter but a reasonable paragraph, at any rate. There was so
much else to include, and one must be firm in

Different cells have different jobs to do. Each cell has a size and shape that is suited to its job. Cells
that do the same job combine together to form body tissue, such as muscle, skin, or bone tissue.
Groups of different types of cells make up the organs in your body, such as your heart, liver, or lungs.
Each organ has its own job to do, but all organs work together to maintain your body. A group of
different organs working together to do a job makes up a system. All the systems in your body are like
members of a team whose job it is to keep you alive and healthy.
The different types of cells in your body have different, specialized jobs to do. The specialization of
cells depends almost always on the exaggeration of properties common to cells. For example, cells
that line the intestine have extended cell membranes. This increases the amount of

  • 2. The Battle over Safe Injection Sites Insite: The Battle over Supervised Injection Sites In the 1990 s there was an epidemic of HIV outbreaks in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver. Injection drug users were found to be the leading cause of this, and a public health emergency was declared (Fafard, 2012). The mortality and morbidity resulting from this increasing injection drug use became a major political issue. This resulted in the adoption of harm reduction by the government as one of their four pillars of their drug strategy (Fafard, 2012). Harm reduction is a set of practical strategies and ideas aimed at reducing negative consequences associated with drug use (Boyd, 2013). In September 2003 Insite, North Americas first harm reduction supervised injection site, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There was also no increase of users relapsing into injection drug use, nor did it negatively influence those seeking to stop drug use (Kerr et al., 2006). The research shows that Insite has not promoted increased illicit drug injection, but rather it has attracted individuals with histories of injection drug use. Another claim put forth by the Conservatives is that SISs are harmful to communities. They believe SISs create public nuisances, and threaten public safety (Broadhead, Kerr amp; Alice, 2002). Research on the other hand argues that SISs can address issues related to public. Since Insite opened the public has noticed less public injections, less syringe droppage, and less complaints about drug user nuisances (Potier et al., 2014). It also cleans up public environment such as streets and alleyways. Drug use is still an illicit activity and it takes place in unsterile environments such as behind dumpsters and shooting galleries. SISs provide sterile environments for users and are a lot safer than shooting up in the streets. This leads to less public injection and a better community environment (Potier et al., 2014). Local police data was also evaluated and there has been no increase in crime, violence, or drug trafficking around Insite. There were no significant statistical changes in rates of drug trafficking. There were 124 incidents in the year before and 116 incidents after. There were 147 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Assisted Suicide Debate Analysis As the political debates are in full action, I am certainly aware of the discussion of controversial topics. Although assisted suicide is not among the topics, however I do understand the difficulties of addressing sensitive topics. The following assignment is a reflection on Helping a Suicide When the End Isn t Near. First, I ll introduce the debaters as well as their background and position on this controversial topic. Next, I will address my view and rationale pertaining to the topic. An opinionated article, Helping a Suicide When the End Isn t Near, published by the New York Times includes segments from both Mark Kleiman and Ira Byock who share their opinions on whether or not assisted suicide should be legal in the United States. Kleiman, who insist that laws prohibiting assisted suicide must be erased, is a professor of public policy at New York University s Marron Institute of Urban Management, whereas Byock, who is completely opposed to any law change, is a professor of medicine at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College. Kleiman and Byock have compelling, but opposing viewpoints on this controversial subject, and each rule the other to be highly unethical. In the article, Kleiman states his belief that laws prevent people who need help in dying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After reviewing both segments between the debaters, It s hard to definitively state whether I support or oppose the legalization of assisted suicide. With that being said, I see both sides of the argument, however, if put on a spectrum, I lean more towards the support of assisted suicide. I believe if the patient is competent as well as the one who has requested to take this course of action, it certainly can be justified. In addition, I personally believe in quality of life, not longevity. There are many incurable diseases out there, making people s life intolerable, stealing their sense of life and giving a strong incentive to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Pros And Cons Of Creating The Budget I was assigned to cut the budget for year 1 and year 2 by $750,000 (total of $1.5 million over 2 years) by the CEO. I took a comprehensive look at the budget and my recommendations are that we should cut the number of participants from 1000 to 910 and let go of 3 staff members. These reductions would have a cascading effect and help us to cut the budgets of both years by 750,000 dollars. I believe that the quality of our program is more important than the number of participants we serve. Consequently, I propose to decrease the number of participants by 9% (90 participants) for year 1 and year 2. This cut would cause minimum harm to the program because we would be able to serve the other 910 participants without decreasing services, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Subsequently, helping us reach our desired program outcomes. The average cost of a certification is $75 and for our initial budget, we assumed that half of the participants would get these certifications. In our new budget, this ratio would be maintained, however as we have fewer participants, we would only need to budget for 455 certifications decreasing our budget by $3,375 for year 1 and year 2. Another important service that our program offers is background checks. These checks help increase the number of placements and retentions. Our initial budget reflected that each background check costs $50 and approximately half of the participants would require a background check. The new budget for year 1 and year 2 would still maintain the same ratio but due to a decrease in participants, we would only need to budget for 455 participants. This would help us cut the budget by $2,250 for year 1 and year 2 without harming the program. Career advisors are an essential part of our program. Career advisors transitional help participants during their transitional employment, which is usually for the first 4 6 months of the program. My recommendation would be to fire 2 of these advisors as this would allow us to decrease our budget by $80,000 for year 1 and 2. Currently, these advisors serve 500 participants and their maximum participants to staff ratio is 35:1. Our initial budget ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Marie Curie During World War 1 Encounter Marie Curie fits the theme perfectly in another way, encounter. She had a troublesome time getting the education she needed, and even when she presented a reasonable hypothesis, it was all but brushed off because she was not respected. Curie also had an encounter with the Solvay conference, which was a gathering of some of the greatest minds at the time. One of the most important things Curie did was help during World War One by inventing and distributing portable x ray machines to help aid soldiers. • 7. Environmental Effects Of Desertification Background: Desertification is the degradation of land and soil in dryland ecosystems caused by both the climate and human activities. In the year 2000, one third of the population of the earth dwelled in dryland ecosystems, and drylands are 41% of world s land. The effect of desertification is massive because of the amount of people that live in affected areas. Drylands facilitate 44% of the food production in the world and 50% of livestock, so these ecosystems are a very important source of resources. 2.6 billion people depend of the food developed in drylands and many of those people have jobs making the food. 52% of the land is being affected in some way by degradation because it removes the moisture that is needed to grow or herd food. Around 800 million people are going hungry and around 80% of these people are small land owners or they do not own any land and are very poor. This means that those small land owners might not have any land in the end because of the deterioration of healthy soil. Land degradation also effects water quantity and quality. Clean water is one of the most important resources in the world, and desertification eliminates that resource. 74% of those in poverty are directly affected by land degradation. 10 20% of drylands are degraded already. The places most effected by desertification are sub Saharan and Central Asia drylands. Desertification occurs for various reasons. • 8. Supersize Me Documentary Analysis The Ethos of Participatory Documentaries When it comes to persuasive drive, classically the appeal for change derives from Aristotle s ethos, pathos, and logos. By using these three appeals, one could formulate a presentation of public speaking that tailors best to the target audience. The same logic can be applied to the modern medium of documentary. According to Bill Nichols, documentary serves as a narrative form of reality in which the filmmaker layers an argument (Nichols 2010). Some films such as Ken Burns work or a direct cinema piece such as Salesman relay heavily on factual narratives that uses logos to convey historical fact almost to the point of an informative lecture. Typically these types of documentaries are structured in either ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Let s go into more detail with each. According to Nichols, the indexical bond is the connection between the image and what it represents. Spurlock s experiment gives the audience between the spectacle indexical bond between his weight gain and health deterioration and the promotion to not eat fast food. While it doesn t appeal well to scientists, it gives visual appeal to a general audience. The second reason why the experiment works is that it gives creditability to Spurlock. While the purpose of ethos in the general sense will be discussed latter on, the experiment serves as a means in which Spurlock creates creditability. It has this ability because Spurlock shows his determination and willingness to dive into a potentially dangerous situation in order to create his message. As the film continues, the documentary allows the audience to empathize with Spurlock s experience. The last point argues that experiment appeals well to the audience because it is relatable to everyday life. Unlike with many other documentaries that dives into less recognizable and unique corners of life, Supersize Me dives right into something that is in front of everybody every day. This makes it easily applicable with the audience. Now that the front narrative ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Now, she seems to almost despise me for reasons that I do not know and hope to find out. Well from kindergarten to the end of third grade I was at St. Bridget s in Watervliet. Then, from fourth grade to the first three weeks of sixth grade I was at St. Ambrose. Most of my friends from St. Bridget s went to St. Ambrose after St. Bridget s closed in third grade; so, I didn t really need to make a lot of new friends or worry about being shy, because at that time in my life I was very shy. Although the caliphs were not prophets, their centralized purpose was to continue the straight path of Prophet Muhammad, politically, economically, and spiritually. During the rule of the 4 caliphates, Abu Baker, Umar Ibn Al Khattab, Uthman Ibn Affan and Ali, the Muslims underwent a series of developments, movements, and conquests. The Islamic caliphates in the post Prophethood time period, provided leadership and social unity for Middle Eastern communities to follow into modern times. The caliphates represented an ideal example through their political, economical, and religious enforcements. When the Prophet was ordered through revelation to make the message of Islam public, hostility to the message rose and in response, the Prophet instilled hope amongst the muslims. Early revelations stressed the existence of one god and presented His attributes, which laid out basic elements of social and personal morality. These revelations redirected the individual from materialistic goals to a life dedicated to worship. In the tenth year of Hijra, the Prophet led 30,000 people on a pilgrimage to Mecca. On the plain of Arafat, the Prophet stood up and gave the farewell sermon. In the sermon he encouraged muslims to remain united, you are one brotherhood all together , ... As such, Indochina was able to assume the status of being the lucrative colonial possessions of the French. The French companies and the colonial officials engaged in the transformation of the Vietnam subsistence economy to a system that is proto capitalist on the bases of low wages and exports, increased production, and land ownership (Kolko 7). Thus, the Vietnamese never worked for their profits, but for the benefit of the colonies of the French. The French also had a chance of acquiring great tracks of land and reorganization of the same into plantations. The small landholders had the option of being laborers in the plantations or having to relocate to other places. In case shortfalls in labor were experienced, the farmers from Vietnam had to be recruited from other outlying villages (Mason 11). The blood imagery for Macbeth and Lady Macbeth is guilty, murder, remouse and power. It shows Macbeth had killed King Duncan, Banquo and the Guards to get what he want for him to be a king in Shakespeare. Lady Macbeth The story illustrates the act of murder has changed Macbeth s character. But it no longer does the blood connote an image of ambition; it now symbolizes guilt, remorse, and an entry into the gates of hell from which no one can return. Macbeth laments that not even all the water in the sink will wash the blood off his hands, he is beginning to realize the immensity of his crime, and that he has done something truly evil. Macbeth say, It will have blood, they say. Blood will have blood./ By magot pies and choughs and rooks brought forth/ The secret st man of blood./ What is the night? (Act III, Scene 4, Lines 122 126). The imagined blood haunts both characters, following them until their death. The main theme of Macbeth is he a courageous Scottish general who is not naturally inclined to commit evil deeds, yet he deeply desires power and advancement. Toward the end of the play he descends into a kind of frantic, boastful madness. Lady Macbeth, on the other hand, pursues her goals with greater determination, yet she is less capable of withstanding the repercussions of her immoral acts. Macbeth says Will all great Neptune s ocean wash this blood/ Clean from my hand? Macbeth cries after he has killed Duncan, even as his wife scolds him and says that a little water will do the job (Act II, Scene 2, Lines 58 59).The different reaction in Macbeth is stunned and seemingly in shock after he has killed Duncan. He tells his wife he heard voices. Some of those voices were real people talking in their sleep or saying their prayer before bed. This same blood symbolism continues when Macbeth, shortly after he sees the ghost of the murdered Banquo at his feast, goes into a state of shock and has to be escorted back to his chamber by Lady Macbeth. The Social Network Essay The Dramatic Interpretation of the Social Network Myth After watching the movie The Social Network, the first thing I did was to search for Mark Zuckerberg s real life experiences to see which parts are facts and which are fictions. As a matter of fact, this Harvard genius that founded the world s first social network was not as childish as the movie portrayed. At least he didn t write programming for getting into elite Harvard Final Clubs or for retaliating his girlfriend. During Mark s high school, Microsoft and AOL tried to purchase the music player that he built and also invited him to join them. However, Mark decided to enroll in Harvard for further education. But it seems that he respects the ideas and decisions of the filmmakers, more or less, in terms of artistic creation. It was because he wanted to see how filmmakers would interpret his unimaginable story. This kind of art stresses the maze beyond art and the real world, which can only be seen through by smart people who also show respect to the artwork. The movie s final image Zuckerberg friending the woman who dumped him and endlessly refreshing the page to see if she accepts is presented as pathetic irony. But you could also read it as a sign of hope. In the Facebook world, which is now ours, a new communication infrastructure exists, with no avenues definitively closed. It is the oxygen in air that your body really needs. Every cell in your body needs oxygen to help it metabolize (burn) the nutrients released from food for energy. You also know that you need food. Food gives you energy, but oxygen is needed to break down the food into pieces that are small enough for your cells to use This is known as cellular respiration and it is the process of oxidizing food molecules, like glucose, to carbon dioxide and water. The energy released is chemically trapped for use by all the energy consuming activities of the cell. Your cells are the energy converters for your body. Different cells have different jobs to do. Each cell has a size and shape that is suited to its job. Cells that do the same job combine together to form body tissue, such as muscle, skin, or bone tissue. Groups of different types of cells make up the organs in your body, such as your heart, liver, or lungs. Each organ has its own job to do, but all organs work together to maintain your body. A group of different organs working together to do a job makes up a system. All the systems in your body are like members of a team whose job it is to keep you alive and healthy.
