Disadvantages Of Hand Based Biometrics
Personal verification is the major concern because of its wide usage in many applications. Recently,
hand based biometrics technology is being used in many applications and also involved the significant
attention of the individual towards biometric system. Hand based biometric system presents many
types of recognition by means of fingerprint, palmprint, hand geometry and hand vein. Biometrics is
broadly classified and referred in two aspects for authenticating the individuals namely,
Physical and
Behavioral traits
Each biometric technique contains its merits as well as demerits. So, no biometric method is known as
the best and it is also employed for several applications. Biometric systems suggested many
computerized techniques for individual verification and the recognition depending on the behavioral
characteristics for example fingerprint or voice sample. However, this behavioral characteristic keeps
on changing with time. In hand based biometrics, the requirement for the consistent system in user

The Army Of The Potomac
They were roughly fifty miles from Fredericks when BG Lane and his Marines arrived at the furthest
outskirts of Baltimore. The easiest route, and fastest between the two cities was I 70, BG Lane
suspected that given speed of attack and willingness to get to Washington, the General was almost
positive that any forces from the Army of the Potomac would make its way down the I 70. Within the
last twenty four hours BG Lane was notified that elements of the 82nd Airborne were making its way
north east to support him and his Marines. The 82nd would take an alternate route circumnavigating
Baltimore and coming up south of the Marines current position. Once the 82nd was five to ten miles
from the Marines they would halt, dig in and wait for further orders. If the Army of the Potomac
decided to head south west before Baltimore they would run head on into the 82nd Airborne and if
they continued down the I 70 into Baltimore they would run into the Marines. In addition, if elements
of the Army of the Potomac got relatively close to either the Marines or the 82nd they were within
striking range of the aircraft on the Hornet. BG Lane had no issues with calling in the Navy to help
him and his Marines out. Another surprise for the enemy, at least he had hoped, he knew that the Air
Force out of the West Coast had recently bombed the Army of the Potomac, caught them all flat footed
and they had no idea what hit them. He was sure there was some serious reassessment happening at

Introduction
This is a comparative essay and its purpose is to compare old Earth and young Earth viewpoints on
Dating the rocks of the Grand Canyon. There are different views on this and no scientific method that
can prove (completely) the age of the universe or the earth. There are the use of different types of
calculations that can provide some guesses on the age of the earth. Many things need to be assumed
such as a beginning date and the speed of change along with varying increases and decreases of
material over time. Young Earth Creationism (YEC) is based on a precept that earth and the universe
were created by God, only 6,000 years ago in six days. Their position is that by examining geological

Old Earth Secular View
Mainstream science make predictions based on varies tests. For instance, one of the test said that in a
certain geological eras some animals should have transitioned from fish to amphibians. This helped
the scientists find just such fossils in that era. Old Earth seculars believe tree rings over 6000 years
old, thick layers of limestone, and the sequence of animal fossils in rock layers are evidence for an
Old Earth view.
A description of the grand canyon rock layers would include the Colorado River running at the bottom
of the inner gorge with flats on both sides which consist of tapeat sandstone layers. There is also the
Vishnu Complex, consisting of rocks that have been changed by heat and are buried at the lowest
layers. These are tilted and are called the Grand Canyon Supergroup the Grand Canyon supergroups
are at least 12,000 ft in thickness. These rocks or (the Inner Gorge ) are usally steep and narrow with
hard deep cuts in the lower tilted layers which raise above sea level.
Old Earth Seculars search and explore these areas of the Grand Canyon to find answers to the age of
the earth.
Young Earth View Young Earth view point on the age of earth is based on not only science but the
Bible as well. There try to combine the two areas in an effort to present the true age of the earth. One

In the bustling tedious suburban lives we face daily it s easy to forget the serene spell nature can cast
upon you. In the majestic creatures of the world such as tigers, wolves, wolverines, etc. we reflect in
the faces of our most loving and loyal companions. Bringing us closer to nature from the comfort of
our living rooms our pets can be our happiness, sadness, our strength and the warm love we can come
home to. Owning a pet is a rewarding feeling, it comes with its difficulties as well as its treats. There
is a certain joy that comes from growing and living with a furry companion, one only found in the
arms and embrace of a meow, a bark, a squeak, or a squawk etc. When I was younger I had always
loved and been fascinated by animals. In my spare time I would read books and ask all kinds of
questions on many different species to become more knowledgeable. I watched many different kinds
of documentaries on many different subjects, all in the name of enlightening and feeding my thought

Medium Ground Finches
Medium ground finches are one of the 13 species of finches. These finches, the medium ground
finches have large beaks. You can find these finches at Daphne Major, in the center of Galapagos
island. Daphne Major is also located near South America in the South Pacific ocean.
Medium ground finches had small beaks before but changed over time. This was caused because of
evolution and survival of the fittest. When Charles Darwin came onto the island he wondered why
there were many different species of the finches, then he hypothesized that a group of finches might
have came in from South America. Then splitting of the finches and adapting into their environment to
have a better chance of surviving. The finches beaks helped with Darwin thinking

Parental Power And Adult Authority
Control reflects the center of power or the source of decision making in the relationship and has a
continuum that ranges from parental to child control. Types of parental power indicate the methods
parents use to exert their influence on the child (Vargas, Busch Rossnagel, Montero Sieburth, and
Villarruel, 2000). However, a recent study found that Hispanic children who are between the ages of
four and six often struggle with depression, anxiety, and somatization due to common parenting styles
within Hispanic culture (Cohen, 2015). Hispanic parents tend to control by teaching their children to
be obedient and show absolute respect for adult authority. They also control their children by clear

Baptism and Confirmations are major religious celebrations for Hispanic families that contribute the
main part of the Hispanic culture and traditions. In fact, there are many Hispanic children are still
baptized as Catholics (Social Issues Reference, 2010). Hispanic families have strong and supportive
family relationships and genuine parenting practice. Most studies found that family cohesion helps to
maintain adolescent s behaviors, decrease negative outcomes, and promote psychological well being.
For example, family cohesion has been found to decrease the risk of conduct problems and rule
breaking among Mexican origin adolescents (Marsiglia, Parsai, Kulis, 2009). Typically, Hispanic
adolescents who associate with higher levels of family cohesion reduce the rate of consuming alcohol
and illicit drug as well as depress symptoms. In fact, the higher level of family cohesion may decrease
family problems such as parent adolescent conflict and improve family s well being. Another study
found that Hispanic adolescents who associate with lower and higher levels family cohesion were
great risk for alcohol use because high cohesion might be caused controlling rather that supportive
(Lee Warner, 2015). Moreover, many studies found that Hispanic adolescents in immigrant families

Social Disorganization Theory And The Strain Theory
The two theories I chose are The Social Disorganization Theory and The Strain Theory. Social
Disorganization theory was created by Clifford R. Shaw and Henry D. McKay. They wanted to know
why certain areas in certain communities were continuously high in crime year after year. They found
that the change or high turnover disrupted the community and caused the communities to be unstable.
Social Disorganization Theory has two main sections, the three causes of neighborhood deterioration
and the zones model. There is also a modern theory that adds to Social Disorganization by Robert
Sampson. He says that social ties play a major role in the theory. Formal and informal ties to the
community can help determine if they care or are invested in the ... Show more content on

situation. Social Disorganization Theory is specific to the inner most part of cities and Strain Theory is
specific to an individual situation. Another similarity would be how both theories explain why crime
occurs in the situations they occur in. One difference between the two theories is, while they can be
specific to the situation, the situations that they occur in are very different. The Social Disorganization
theory is specific to communities and Strain Theory is specific to an

The New Communistic Approach
The new communistic approach
1917 1918, the Russian Revolution emerged centering around two essential events: the February
Revolution, in which the Czar was overthrown, and the October Revolution, in which the Bolsheviks
took over power resulting in the creation of the world s first communist country led by Vladimir
Lenin. This resulted in the brutal, cruel and bloody Civil War. What was left was an extreme regime
that was to rule Russia until the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991, which also meant the end of
communism. Despite the creation of an extreme regime, including suppression, forced labor camps,
execution of people with different ideologies, bribes etc., the communists had a great goal at first. The
Communist Party wanted to achieve social and financial equality in a classless and stateless society in
which the fulfillment of human needs including satisfying work and an equal share of benefit derived
from labor was essential.
Although communism didn t succeed in Russia, it is, in theory, the solution for a utopian world,
existing of equal human rights, freedom, shelter, food etc. But why did communism fail? There are
many theories about that, it was, for example, due to the leaders abusing their power turning the
communistic government into a tyrannical dictatorship. Or, another theory is, that it is due to the
people s greed, always wanting more than others resulting in conflicts between one another, like the
Civil War. Our main question is: How can we govern a

Robert Frost Influences
How do poets say hello? Hey, haven t we metaphor. One of the most famous and heavily discussed
Author during my high school was Robert Frost. He was famous for writing poems reflecting life and
our sentiments. He uses symbolisms, metaphors, and more importantly his personal influences. Frost s
poems teaches everyone to understand the morals in life. In the end of the poem, readers are left to
salvage the hidden messages (morals) and to understand. Robert Frost was a man with misfortunate
events that seems to be striking him like thunders throughout his life. With each strike that rips him
apart, he is mentally tearing apart. His father was an alcoholic, a mother with depression, his sister
Jeanie was instituted at a mental hospital, his son Carol committed suicide, his daughter Marjorie died

There are hard times in which we endure in our lives, some wants to quit like in a snowy isolated
place, but there are important responsibilities we have to deal with that holds us back like Frost s
suicide. His whole life was undergoing crestfallen incidents. Like his poem Reluctance projecting the
leaves are all dead on the ground ( 2 Frost, par 2). Another correlation with nature and death. The last
lone aster is gone , The heart is still aching to seek (2 Frost, par 3), a symbolic reference of the death
of Elinor (his wife) emotionally broke his heart, thus the ache. His last stanza, To yield with grace to
reason, And bow and accept the end (2 Frost, par 4), in all that has happen whether we question it or
not. We will accept the outcome and proceed on. Reluctance or willingly to accept the fate was what
Frost strived to show us, and we must change that for the benefits as we continue to live. The past is

can lead to innovation. Moreover, managing innovation and change is not an absolute easy process as
it seems, as it requires lots of human interaction with different backgrounds, contexts, cultures that
require aligning all your human resources to respond to new innovations, and related changes and this
will only be done via good and efficient leadership. Generally, innovations and related changes may
include change in organization structure workforce planning, marketing strategy, geographical

Analysis Of The Man That Corrupted Hadleyburg
Mercy on us, and the door not locked! This arguable statement in the beginning of the story, written by
Mark Twain, implies that the Hadleyburg was not as upstanding as stated in the opening lines of the
story. In The Man that Corrupted Hadleyburg, Hadleyburg is famous for its reputation for honesty, but
it is clear after reading the story that the town is fixated on judging the appearance of others. It seems
as though the town was corrupted before a traveling stranger planned for revenge, contradicting the
title. This story not only describes Twain s social criticisms of the American society in the 1890 s, but
it also represents Twain s cynical views on Christianity. Critics frequently disagree over the
significance of the corrupter, but there is no reason to believe that one idea is more accurate than the
other. This story takes place at the end of the nineteenth century in a small American town named
Hadleyburg. The Man that Corrupted Hadleyburg was written in third person omniscient, allowing the
narrator to express the thoughts and ideas of the characters. The conflict in The Man that Corrupted
Hadleyburg began after citizens in Hadleybrug offended a passing stranger. The stranger, described as
a foreign gambler, decided to plot revenge against the town in order to expose the town s fabricated
virtue. He devised a plan that tempted citizens of the town to tell a lie in order to claim a sack of gold

The Russian Revolution Of Russia
On July 17th 1918 Nicholas II of Russia was gunned down by communist revolutionists along with
his family. The New York Times first heard of this event July 21st, 1918 when they printed the article
that Ex Czar of Russia Killed by Order of Ural Soviet. The russian government had announced the
death of Nicholas Romanoff on July 20th at the same time claiming that the former Empress and
Alexis Romanoff, the heir, were in a place of security. The Russian government claimed that a counter
revolutionary conspiracy was discovered which lead them to make the decision to execute the former
ruler. In the following days a rumor spread that Alexis Romanoff had died of exposure after his father
s death, the russian government denied this claiming that The family of Nicholas Romanoff is safe in a
Siberian monastery in Abalak. Unfortunately, these claims and announcements the Russian
government gave about the ex Czar s family were false propaganda. His entire family was shot and
killed along with him and buried out in the wilderness where they died. Rumors spread for years after
the event on the prospect of survivors, a funny parallel since when the general populace did not know
the family had been killed they had spread rumors that they had died. Fakes and claimants of the ex
Czar s daughter Anastasia began to appear all around Europe, inspiring the 1997 disney movie of
Anastasia. Though with the recent science of DNA testing and the discovery of the grave in the mid

Hills Like White Elephants Analysis
A Life or Death Decision How difficult is it to make a decision that could potentially ruin one s life?
Ernest Hemingway s explores this question in his short story, Hills Like White Elephants. The story is
a concise conversation between an American man and a girl. The names of the characters as well as
their relationship status remain unknown. For the entirety of the short story, the characters sit in a train
station perturbed about making a decision on a potential operation of the girl. The man and the girl go
back and forth contesting what they should do about the operation. The story ends on a cliffhanger,
leaving the reader unaware of the girl s final resolution. In Hemingway s short story, Hills Like White
Elephants, his use of symbols, innuendos, and dialogue create a high level of tension for the man and
the girl which ultimately conveys the difficulty of the decision that the couple must make together.
Throughout the story, the man and the girl drink alcohol to deivert them from dealing with their
problems. Every time the couple gets closer to deciding what to do about the operation, one of them
suggests that they get another beer. In the story, the man says, I don t want you to do anything that you
don t want to do. The girl answers with Nor that isn t good for me and the man replies Could we have
another beer? (Hemingway 125). The alcohol is their escape from reality. It calms them and helps
them avoid the situation at hand. The alcohol may have

The blue light from the sky would thus be light scattered to the sides, while the reddish light would be
light that passes through the lower layers of the atmosphere and which has become impoverished in
blue rays owing to scattering. Later, in 1899, Rayleigh threw out the suggestion that the phenomenon
in question might be due to the fact that the molecules of air themselves exercised a scattering effect
on the rays of light.
In 1914 Cabannes succeeded in showing experimentally that pure and dustless gases also have the
capacity of scattering rays of light.
But a closer examination of scattering in different substances in solid, liquid, or gaseous form showed
that the scattered light did not in certain respects exactly follow the laws which, according to
calculation, should hold good for the Tyndall effect. The hypothesis which formed the basis of this
effect would seem to involve, amongst other things, that the rays scattered to the sides were polarized.
This, however, did not prove to be exactly the case.
This divergence from what was to be expected was made the starting point of a searching study of the
nature of scattered light, in which study Raman was one of those who took an active part. Raman
sought to find the explanation of the anomalies in asymmetry observed in the molecules. During these

Freud was the first to use the word to characterize certain character traits. He got the word from the

is exhibited in the play selection process. Her choice for the leading lady is dictated by the longing for
social acceptance and the simple art of sucking up. She ascertains that her vision of the perfect play
has been tainted by the unmotivated, unreliable and unscrupulous cast she has assembled. The
consistent snide, off handed remarks and unannounced, unwanted suggestions echo the toils of
community theater groups across the present Midwest. Carol has wonderful aspirations and ideas to
help awaken the sleepy town of Gopher Prairie, but she is held back by the stiff, stubborn close
mindedness of the small town. The obstacles she encounters are her own self criticisms. It is quite true
that the townswomen gossip about her to no end, but if she could stop and listen, they gossip about
each other just as much. She does not comprehend that the common means of conversation in the
town are achieved through the criticizing of others. Carol will never attain her dream village if she

Being A Child Of The 90 s Full House Essay
Being a child of the 90 s, Full House was a very popular show for my generation. Least to say when I
saw a spin off, Fuller House was being released this past year to Netflix I was extremely excited.
Coincidently, the spin off released during the time of this course. Believe it or not, I immediately
referenced parenting styles to the episode where DJ Tanner punishes her son a little differently than
Kimmy Gibler punishes her daughter, although the committed the same crime. I am hoping to dissect
this exact scene, and discuss DJ parenting style towards her son. I find the parenting styles really
interesting, specifically the four we discussed in module four and I really want to focus on that here.
Earlier in the course, we discussed Darling four parenting styles and for some reason, these really
stuck with me. The parenting style theory reflects four different types of parents. Indulgent parents
tend to more responsive than they are demanding (Darling) I like to think of indulgent parents as what
todays generation thinks of as cool parents . They tend to be more lenient and let the child do as they
please because they want to avoid confrontation. Darling also discusses Authoritarian and
Authoritative parents which are slightly different. Authoritarian style parents, are a little over barring.
To me, I would consider this style to be a bulldozer parent. Authoritarian style parents are very
demanding and very directive. They expect the child to do what they re told,

The Importance Of Female Careers In Liberal Arts
Although I m not happy with my result, it doesn t surprise me. Being a female currently studying
liberal arts, while my fiancé studies Aquarian Science the implicit association with Science and
Liberal Arts in my household strengths my results. Majority of my female friends either have or are
working towards a degree in the liberal arts field, so naturally I associate topics such as literature,
history and art to females. This isn t to say females are incapable of careers in the field of science, just
as males are not incapable of careers in liberal arts. One thing that comes to mind is female and male
nurses. A nursing degree is considered a degree in science, which based on my results would mean I
associate males with being nurses. Conceptual

Grant Wood’s American Gothic Essay
Grant Wood s American Gothic is one of the most famous paintings in the history of American art.
The painting brought Wood almost instant fame after being exhibited for the first time at the Art
Institute of Chicago in 1930. It is probably the most reproduced and parodied works of art, and has
become a staple within American pop culture. The portrait of what appears to be a couple, standing
solemnly in front of their mid western home seems to be a simplistic representation of rural America.
As simple as it sounds, when looking deeper into this image, it reveals something much more
complex. The first thing to notice about this painting is how incredibly involved and realistic the
brushwork is. The couple s faces are so delicately ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is almost a reflection of the man s trident. That same pitchfork shape also appears in the window of
the house that sits in between both figure s heads. Repetition can also be seen in the dotted pattern of
the woman s outfit, which also appears in the material of the curtain that hangs in the house s window.
The echo of verticals in this painting is also strong. The faces and bodies of the figures seem to be
stretched, and narrowed. The pitchfork s slender prongs and the green stripes on the man s shirt also
add to the elongation of their frame. The copious amounts of vertical wood boards that make up the
house and the barn, keep the viewer s eye moving up and down the picture plane. Wood s use of
verticality in this painting is overwhelming. There is also a striking luminosity to the painting. The
man and the woman s faces appear to slightly glow, as if you can really see the reflection of the sun
beaming off of their skin. This was achieved by a complex method of applying glazes. Wood would
apply a layer of oil paint, allow it to dry, and then varnish it. This tedious process would be repeated
numerous times. It was a process perfected by the 16th century Venetian painter, Titian. The series of
glazes seems to have created an overwhelming sense of depth and radiance within the paint. Wood s
use of glazes is not the only reference to early Italian painters. It is clear that Wood was inspired by

Philip II was the king of Spain when he acquired it from his father Charles V. His father decided to

power of the Catholic Church. But Spain had many economic problems that weighed the nation down.
The policies that Philip II made were focused on making other countries Catholic nations, and those
policies weren t effective in helping Spain and its problems. Philip II s Catholic rule affected Spain s

Some of the foreign policies included getting rid of Protestant Reformation. Philip II wanted
Catholicism to remain strong. He believed that every country should be Catholic. That it why Philip II

take Portugal because it was his nephew (Lewis, Jonathan). At this point he focused on expanding and
the other European countries were concerned by this growth. But even with the new interest, Philip II
decided to try something different. Now that he has more power, he was convinced that the Spanish

toward further liberalization of laws. Where abortion services are not legal, they are frequently

Representation Of The House Of Representatives
The legislature of the United States consists of two houses, the Senate and the House of
Representatives. The bicameral system was created by the Founding Fathers in order to carry out one
of the most imperative functions of Congress, representation amongst other function such as
legislation, deliberation and scrutiny. The Senate ensures each state is equally represented with two
congressmen, equally the House of Representatives also has to carry out the function of representation
but its representatives unlike the Senate are proportioned to the population of the states for example
California has 55 representatives however Alaska has 1. Even though representation is an important
and well known function of the legislature the extent to which it is carried out can be argued to have
declined in the subsequent years due to factors such as the expansion of the population. The role of
representation was intended to be carried out in 13 states under the Founding Fathers however the
increase to 50 has made this function increasingly difficult. The creation of the House of
Representatives ensured the function of representation would be carried out as the house was
proportioned to equally represent all the states. Having a set number of representatives in one states
according to population ensures that the voices of that state s population can be heard effectively. The
Framers choice of a bicameral system was in part a choice to leverage two different representational
schemes. The

Joe Sacco s On Satire
How and why is a social group represented in a particular way?
The cartoonists are the main social group portrayed in the cartoon On Satire by Joe Sacco, which is
published in The Guardian. On Satire portrays other cartoonists as obnoxious, insensitive cavemen
who often cross the line between satire and just outright offensive mockery of the religious beliefs of
Muslims. The purpose of the cartoon is to ridicule the black and white way of representation of all
Muslims as terrorists. Also he is aiming to get cartoonists to convince governments and news outlets
to consider ways in which to stop terrorism by understanding why terrorism exists instead of just
eradicating all Muslims and hoping that terrorism dies with them.

just want to poke fun at some habits or traditions of other cultures and religion. However there are
those who take it too far, which is where Logos comes in. Most readers, at least the ones the cartoons

something that is important or sacred to others. Pathos, on the other hand, is used to appeal to the
emotional side of readers by asking them to empathize with the Jews that have been persecuted, as
some believe, for simply been more successful during a time of high rates of unemployment. Sacco

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Kabuki
Kabuki, a type of Japanese performance, was an art form that became incredibly popular during the
Edo Period. Ignoring the audiences profound love for Kabuki, the Japanese government installed
countless regulations with the sole purpose of constraining the art. Despite the Japanese government s
clear distaste for Kabuki, Kabuki still managed to thrive and shape traditional Japanese society during
the Edo Period. Kabuki was an elaborately detailed, carefully executed art that thrilled its audiences.
Kabuki originated in the early 1600s and was created by a dancer named Okuni. Okuni brought
together a group of travelling actors that sung and danced. This gathering of all female performers
gained popularity as it was designed for the tastes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The government restricted Kabuki s art in countless different ways and even interfered in their
interaction with fans which no doubt would have increased their popularity. Kabuki also began as a
travelling small group of actors, then later progressed into renting out theaters (Britannica Kabuki
2017). One of the most hindering disadvantages of Kabuki was its consistent location throughout
every city: the Floating World. The Floating World was the most undesirable part of Japanese cities
and had the rowdiest customers. Jonathan Leonard, in his book Early Japan, says that: The townsfolk
demanded lusty pleasures. These they found in what was called the Floating World of restaurants and
theaters, prostitutes and bath girls, wrestlers, singers, and dancers (Leonard 1968, 168). The Floating
World was a sort of underground red light district run and occupied by the lower classes. This resulted
in the audiences of Kabuki performances turning out to belong to those lower classes. (analyze that?
What does it mean?))) This unfortunate location of Kabuki invoked a strong dislike towards it from
the government and upper classes. No matter how talented and beautiful the art of Kabuki was, its
reputation was always tainted with how it was surrounded by lower class businesses and located in the
least desirable areas of the

Loss Of Faith In Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown
Finally, Goodman Brown loses his faith in God because he believes Satan s lies to justify his sin. First,
Brown believes Satan s claim that he can never be righteous because sinning is part of his human
nature. When Satan shows Brown the true character of his family and spiritual advisors at the witch
meeting, Satan remarks triumphantly There... are all whom ye have reverenced from youth. Ye
deemed them holier than yourselves, and shrank from your own sin, contrasting it with their lives of
righteousness, and prayerful aspirations heavenward. Yet, here are they all, in my worshiping

this one night, I ll cling to her skirts and follow her to Heaven (Hawthorne 262). With this excellent
resolve for the future, Goodman Brown felt himself justified in making more haste on his present evil

he can consciously perform secret acts of evil and return, unscathed, to the fold of true virtue; that...
while simultaneously doing evil things, he can still be virtuous and get to Heaven (293). Thus, Brown
struggles with his faith in the Lord because he believes Satan s lie that he can leave faith and return to

s lie that sin is part of his nature, that he will find happiness on the path of sin, and that he can leave

Cockroaches enjoy living in warm, wet, dark places, such as basements and sewers. Drains and pipes

reasons. They can carry diseases and cause allergic reactions. They will slither around in unsanitary

Compare And Contrast Maol Pot And Mao Zedong
Pol Pot and Mao Zedong committed horrendous acts of genocide. Both are leaders of their country
and are merciless when it comes to gaining, and or controlling power. Pol Pot was a leader of the
Khmer Rouge and committed the Cambodia genocide. Mao Zedong was the leader of China and he
committed the Great Chinese Famine. Both countries were communist; Cambodia became a
communist country after it was taken over by the Khmer Rouge. Both Pol Pot and Mao Zedong were
fearless leaders who would give the order to commit violence. Pol Pot played a role in mass violence
in Cambodia with the Khmer Rouge. While taking over Cambodia, people were relocated, starved,
and executed. The total death toll of the Cambodian genocide was around 2 million. Mao Zedong was
perhaps the biggest advocate for mass violence. His plan, the Great Leap Forward, was a plan in
which farmers would report higher agricultural gains than in reality. This would bring about a deficit
within China and many people would soon start to starve and die from starvation. After the Great
China Famine, the Cultural Revolution and Red Guards came into play. Red Guards roamed the cities
and humiliated, persecuted, and or killed enemies of the state. Pol Pot s justification for mass violence
was that he wanted to create an agrarian utopia. Pol Pot wanted complete control, so he would execute
anyone who would oppose him. Anyone that may have been thought as a threat towards a revolution
was also killed, such as educated people.

How China Hong Kong Relations Have Resulted in Today s Occupy Movement

impacted Hong Kong and resulted in the present day pro democracy protests (Occupy) throughout the

The Succeeding History on the Government of Hong Kong
British Colonization and Beginning of Settlement
The British occupied Hong Kong in 1841, which provided a significant socio economic growth.
Stability was achieved through the principle of synarchy that endorsed the Chinese elite to enter into
administrative and bureaucratic affairs. By the twentieth century, Chinese population had risen
exponentially . The population was largely comprised of young, male migrants from China, who often
commuted between their homeland and the industrial community. Socio economic classes were
divided between merchants and manufactures, clerical, and workers and labourors. Merchants and
manufactures were in an advantageous position to form the ruling elite in China, because of their
ownership of money and productive capital, respectively. The majority of citizens were of lower class
.
On February 2, 1841, Captain Elliot proclaimed the basis of the colonial governments policy toward
the Chinese. The proclamation implicated that Chinese natives be governed under their own laws, and
that foreigners enjoy the security of British law. Sir Henry Pottinger

The Problem With Income Inequality
We all have different opinions of what the American dream consists of. When the economy was stable,
most dreams consisted of having a great career, a big house with all the luxuries imaginable. However,
having a stable job, and saving for the future is simply what the American dream has become. Some
may argue that the American dream is no longer out there because of the income inequality I assure to
all those looking for the dream, inequality has always been there and we should not allow anything to
stop us from achieving what we want. Like many working Americans, I never took the time to think
about how income inequality affected us and how immense it has become. The problem with income
inequality is its rapid increase, and the lack of effort to close that gap between the rich and the poor.
According to Robert Franks in Income Inequality: Too Big to Ignore , income growth has always
remained at the top 1 percent for instance, in 1976 it was 8.9 percent and by 2007 it rose to 23.5
percent (581). Low wages and high unemployment rates have contributed to the income gap. The
question is what can the government do to help reduce the problem? If we think about it, there have
always been plenty of obstacles, enabling us to achieve the American dream but one should never give
up hope. Undoing tax cut for the wealthy to reduce income inequality is a recommendation given by
Paul Krugman (595). Undoing tax cuts on the rich would be very beneficial for low and middle class

Why Environmentalists Hate Capitalism
Environmentalist and Capitalism
The discussion we had in class and in the document is asking, Why do Environmentalists Hate
Capitalism? and How Do Humans Affect the Environment? Well let s start off with the
Environmentalist; they love to make the world a much safer and cleaner world. They think that
Capitalist want to do more and take up more , making gas more expensive , taking more trees down to
build more of what we need and mostly not need, It s our wants and our needs. However, the
Environmentalist feels that the Capitalist want to take down trees for our own good. No, that is not
true, we try to cut down trees and make buildings for the Environmentalist but they think it s for our
own good.
In 2020, the world will end because right now, China is falling slowly, and we mostly rely on China.
Capitalist need to focus more on what they are doing with the resources and not use as much as they
usually do. For example, instead of a whole acre we could use half of it. We could possibly own less
cars, most of us have two or three cars. We can cut down to one to make it easier on everyone else and
the world. But the Capitalist want money, they don t really care about the environment. They do
whatever they can to make money and try to please people more so they can get more money. If all
Capitalist care about is making more stuff, capitalism may be the best system ever. But if you want to
save the planet from environmental catastrophe our current economic system is a dead end. ... Show

Tennis Ball Investigation
The question I will be testing is, how does the temperature of a tennis ball affect how high it bounces?
Why does this matter? Well it matters because you will know how to get the best results in playing a
tennis match, and instead of wasting a bunch of tennis balls, you will understand why it will bounce
high in some locations and not others instead of thinking you have a bad ball. Plus, when you are
playing a match, you will know how to adjust the amount of force you use on the ball and how you
play the game. Also, this can relate to many other things besides tennis balls. For example, you can
use this in day to day situations, such as the air in your tires. My hypothesis states: if a tennis ball is
colder, then it will have a lower bounce height because the molecules inside will not expand as much
as a hotter climate would, causing the ball to bounce ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

then they put the remaining tennis ball into the same warm climate as one of the other balls but, with

The Art of Argumentation
The art of argumentation has become very complex and multi dimensional in a sense of the many didn
t ways you can approach it. Argumentation is communicative reason in situations where people sole
purpose is to prove something through justified acts, beliefs, attitudes, and values. Argumentation is
said to mainly rely on good reason and, that is the audience base to agree or degree with the
agreement. In any situation every audience is different so therefore good reason can be impacted by
culture, which let leaves the decision making to argumentation. Argumentation has become a part of
ones everyday life, no matter the culture or the location. An argument can be made in a small or big
way; it simple just depends on the situation. If 20 year old Tommy calls his mom and tells her that
everyone in the world is going to be at the Adam Levine concert and if he misses the concert it will be
the end of his social life. Tommy made an argument to his mother whether he was trying to or not.
Debate is a big part of argumentation because it all about persuading and convincing the audience to
understand or agree with whoever may be speaking. The process of inquiry and advocacy is debate.
Debate requires two completive sides in an engaging head to head clash of support for or against a
specific proposition. In this paper four to five different fallacies will be discussed, defined and shown

Weird Melancholy Of Henry Lawson s The Bush Undertaker...
Weird Melancholy in Henry Lawson s The Bush Undertaker and Peter Weir s Picnic at Hanging Rock
In 1876, in his preface to Adam Lindsay Gordon s Poems, novelist Marcus Clarke coined the phrase
Weird Melancholy in reference to what he perceived to be the dominant note of his country s
landscape and his subject s verse. In doing so, he distilled the entire mood of Australian Gothic into
one eerie essence, an essence present, to varying extents, in all texts of that genre. This can be seen
through an examination of two exemplary Australian Gothic texts, each vastly different from the other
in form and content, but united by their pervasive aura of Weirdness and Melancholy: Henry Lawson s
1894 short story The Bush Undertaker and Peter ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

burying Brummy, the goanna, always accompanied by the epithet black , reappears continually. The
man s repeated sightings of the creature link it to something sinister, until it becomes a symbolic force
of justice, frighteningly rebuking the hatter for his profanity of a sacred site (Lee). The goanna is a
metaphor for a divine power, supernatural, fatalistic, and truly Weird.
The idea that human activity is governed by a higher power, resulting in a lack of personal agency, is

Silicious lava, forced up from deep down below. Soda trachytes extruded in a highly viscous state,
building the steep sides mametons we see in Hanging Rock. And quite young, geologically speaking.
Barely a millions years old. (Greene, 11)

Theoretical Criminology s Theory Of Delinquency And Drug...
Introduction According to Bernard, Snipes, and Gerould (2016), a theory is a reasonable explanation
for something based on ones beliefs, attitudes, and available information that make up the intellectual
and rational surroundings of people at different times. Therefore, theoretical criminology are facts
about crime based on the same elements.
Most theories attempt to pinpoint the type of criminal behavior the causes crime using one theory of
another to explain the facts based one theory. A large portion of criminologist believe that too many
theories exist that are inconsistence with proven research data and should be eliminated [by the
process of falsification] as a source of information, while others believe these theories should ... Show

The strain theory argues that delinquency may be caused because of ones failure to achieve a specific
goal or satisfy specific needs such as social acceptance, monetary status, or status among peers
(Bernard et al, 2016). According to Piquero and Sealock (2004) strain has three major causes: (1)
failure to accomplish valued goals [positive expectations after completing a task], (2) the loss of
something or someone considered close [a parent or serious relationship], (3) the presence of
something associated with a negative event [physical abuse]. Research by Piquero and Sealock (2004)
found that Agnew proposed a general strain theory that focuses on strain on the individual level
caused by negative relationships with others, which may cause negative emotions resulting in crime.
Agnew used this theory to specifically answer the question, why adolescence choose to engage in
delinquent behavior and drugs (Piquero Sealock, 2001). Empirical evidence suggests when
adolescents are confronted with a situation they perceive as harmful and being trapped in such as
living at home and attending school, the possibility of deviant behavior increases. An example of the
strain theory displayed in the movie dealt with the lack of parental supervision. Most of the teens in
this movie had no real connection with their parents causing the group to spend a lot of time together,
creating more opportunities to engage in delinquent behavior. This

Emotional Intelligence In Health Care Essay
Before discussing how a healthcare worker uses emotional intelligence when establishing
communication with a client in a health care environment, it is imperative to first have a clear
understanding of what emotional intelligence is. Only then can we assess how it is used by a
healthcare worker when communicating with client and its relevance in such a setting. Defining what
communication means in this context is also important to understanding how a healthcare worker uses
emotional intelligence to establish effective discourse with a client. Communication is much more
than just words and encompasses intrapersonal, interpersonal and observational skills which are
critical when communicating with a client. With this in mind, it could be ... Show more content on

As McEwen and Kraszewski (2010, p.1) point out, understanding and engaging various modes of
communication affords the healthcare worker an opportunity to critically analyse the interactions
between themselves and the patient. Information garnered through this analysis can prove vital when
formulating an individual care plan for the patient. The links between emotional intelligence and
communicating effectively can now be seen as taking a holistic approach to patient care. Establishing
trust and respect is the foundation of good communication, and the use of emotional intelligence
allows the healthcare worker to address the needs of a patient individually and this cultivates trust and
respect within the relationship. However, as Birks and Watt (2007, p.368) point out, the level of
emotional intelligence each healthcare worker possesses will vary and empirical studies measuring
emotional intelligence are flawed. This brings into question any ideas of uniformity in the emotional
intelligence approach to patient care. As such, developing consistent levels of effective
communication within a healthcare environment through the use of emotional intelligence seems
unlikely. This view is countered by Ioannidou and Konstantikaki (2008, p. 121), who suggest that
emotional intelligence is something that can be taught. With the acceptance of this idea and with the
use of the previously defined model of emotional intelligence, we can see how

negligently, intentionally or recklessly caused. The tort ordinarily includes four elements: 1) the
defendant must act intentionally or recklessly; in some jurisdictions, where negligent infliction of
emotional distress is recognized the defendant may also act negligently; 2) the defendant s conduct
must be extreme and outrageous; and 3) the defendant s conduct must be the cause; 4) of severe
mental distress. Jurisdictions vary as to what which form of infliction of mental distress they
recognize. Willie Brackens, Plaintiff, v. Dallas Independent School District, et al., Defendant. Civil

International Adoption Paper
In all of the international adoption cases, an important value is diversity. Adoptive families should
show an interest in adopting from the country that they are adopting from. The families should find
the culture of their future child to be very important. As the adoption counselor and I went one
particular home study, I noticed stacks of books with information about Korea and even flash cards, so
that they can learn Korean. In a research study completed by Reynolds, Pontereotto, and Lecker, it
was discovered that ...participants expressed a struggle in dealing with the expectations and opinions
of outsiders related to their racial and ethnic identities (2016). Even though the couple s books are

Some may say that empowering initiatives at the individual level are supports and sustained only by
opening pathways to power sources in social, economic, and institutional structures (St. Ambrose
University). Although the empowerment based model can be seen throughout most of the adoption
process, it is most evident once a child has been placed in a home with the adoptive family. During the
post placement visits, the adoption counselor is going to the adoptive family s home to check in and
see how things are going. If the adjustment to having a new child in the home is not going well, the
adoption counselor will empower the adoptive family to continue making progress on the adjustment.
Depending on the situation, empowering an adoptive family might consist of receiving a referral for

Rakas V. Jerome Case Study
Case Brief: Rakas V. Illinois 439 U.S. 128 (1978) Facts After being told the details of a supposed
getaway car from a robbery, the police saw the car and began to drive after it (Rakas V. Illinois 439
U.S. 128 (1978)). The officers then took off after the car to conduct a search passed on probable cause.
After completing the search the officers found a shot gun and shells within the car (Rakas V. Illinois
439 U.S. 128 (1978)). The owner of the vehicle had no correlations to the robbery, so the passengers
took responsibility of the gun and ammo (Rakas V. Illinois 439 U.S. 128 (1978)). Upon their court
date, the men that were incarcerated decided they wanted to motion to suppress the gun. However due
to a lack of standing, the motion to suppress was denied (Rakas V. Illinois 439 U.S. 128 (1978)).
Procedural History The petitioners wanted the Appellate Court of Illinois to reconsider the decision of
convicting them with armed robbery (Rakas V. Illinois 439 U.S. 128 (1978)). Unfortunately, the courts
did not change their mind on the conviction and denied to the suppression of the gun and ammo
because the petitioners had no accurate reasoning as to why the search ... Show more content on

Recently, hand based biometrics technology is being used in many applications and also involved the significant attention of the individual towards biometric system. Hand based biometric system presents many types of recognition by means of fingerprint, palmprint, hand geometry and hand vein. Biometrics is broadly classified and referred in two aspects for authenticating the individuals namely, Physical and Behavioral traits Each biometric technique contains its merits as well as demerits. So, no biometric method is known as the best and it is also employed for several applications. Biometric systems suggested many computerized techniques for individual verification and the recognition depending on the behavioral characteristics for example fingerprint or voice sample. • 3. The Army Of The Potomac They were roughly fifty miles from Fredericks when BG Lane and his Marines arrived at the furthest outskirts of Baltimore. The easiest route, and fastest between the two cities was I 70, BG Lane suspected that given speed of attack and willingness to get to Washington, the General was almost positive that any forces from the Army of the Potomac would make its way down the I 70. Within the last twenty four hours BG Lane was notified that elements of the 82nd Airborne were making its way north east to support him and his Marines. The 82nd would take an alternate route circumnavigating Baltimore and coming up south of the Marines current position. Once the 82nd was five to ten miles from the Marines they would halt, dig in and wait for further orders. If the Army of the Potomac decided to head south west before Baltimore they would run head on into the 82nd Airborne and if they continued down the I 70 into Baltimore they would run into the Marines. In addition, if elements of the Army of the Potomac got relatively close to either the Marines or the 82nd they were within striking range of the aircraft on the Hornet. BG Lane had no issues with calling in the Navy to help him and his Marines out. Another surprise for the enemy, at least he had hoped, he knew that the Air Force out of the West Coast had recently bombed the Army of the Potomac, caught them all flat footed and they had no idea what hit them. He was sure there was some serious reassessment happening at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Introduction This is a comparative essay and its purpose is to compare old Earth and young Earth viewpoints on Dating the rocks of the Grand Canyon. There are different views on this and no scientific method that can prove (completely) the age of the universe or the earth. There are the use of different types of calculations that can provide some guesses on the age of the earth. Bringing us closer to nature from the comfort of our living rooms our pets can be our happiness, sadness, our strength and the warm love we can come home to. • 10. The New Communistic Approach The new communistic approach 1917 1918, the Russian Revolution emerged centering around two essential events: the February Revolution, in which the Czar was overthrown, and the October Revolution, in which the Bolsheviks took over power resulting in the creation of the world s first communist country led by Vladimir Lenin. This resulted in the brutal, cruel and bloody Civil War. What was left was an extreme regime that was to rule Russia until the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991, which also meant the end of communism. Despite the creation of an extreme regime, including suppression, forced labor camps, execution of people with different ideologies, bribes etc., the communists had a great goal at first. The Communist Party wanted to achieve social and financial equality in a classless and stateless society in which the fulfillment of human needs including satisfying work and an equal share of benefit derived from labor was essential. Although communism didn t succeed in Russia, it is, in theory, the solution for a utopian world, existing of equal human rights, freedom, shelter, food etc. But why did communism fail? There are many theories about that, it was, for example, due to the leaders abusing their power turning the communistic government into a tyrannical dictatorship. Or, another theory is, that it is due to the people s greed, always wanting more than others resulting in conflicts between one another, like the Civil War. This arguable statement in the beginning of the story, written by Mark Twain, implies that the Hadleyburg was not as upstanding as stated in the opening lines of the story. In The Man that Corrupted Hadleyburg, Hadleyburg is famous for its reputation for honesty, but it is clear after reading the story that the town is fixated on judging the appearance of others. It seems as though the town was corrupted before a traveling stranger planned for revenge, contradicting the title. This story not only describes Twain s social criticisms of the American society in the 1890 s, but it also represents Twain s cynical views on Christianity. Critics frequently disagree over the significance of the corrupter, but there is no reason to believe that one idea is more accurate than the other. This story takes place at the end of the nineteenth century in a small American town named Hadleyburg. The Man that Corrupted Hadleyburg was written in third person omniscient, allowing the narrator to express the thoughts and ideas of the characters. The conflict in The Man that Corrupted Hadleyburg began after citizens in Hadleybrug offended a passing stranger. The stranger, described as a foreign gambler, decided to plot revenge against the town in order to expose the town s fabricated virtue. Ernest Hemingway s explores this question in his short story, Hills Like White Elephants. The story is a concise conversation between an American man and a girl. The names of the characters as well as their relationship status remain unknown. For the entirety of the short story, the characters sit in a train station perturbed about making a decision on a potential operation of the girl. The man and the girl go back and forth contesting what they should do about the operation. The story ends on a cliffhanger, leaving the reader unaware of the girl s final resolution. Throughout the story, the man and the girl drink alcohol to deivert them from dealing with their problems. Every time the couple gets closer to deciding what to do about the operation, one of them suggests that they get another beer. The blue light from the sky would thus be light scattered to the sides, while the reddish light would be light that passes through the lower layers of the atmosphere and which has become impoverished in blue rays owing to scattering. Later, in 1899, Rayleigh threw out the suggestion that the phenomenon in question might be due to the fact that the molecules of air themselves exercised a scattering effect on the rays of light. In 1914 Cabannes succeeded in showing experimentally that pure and dustless gases also have the capacity of scattering rays of light. But a closer examination of scattering in different substances in solid, liquid, or gaseous form showed that the scattered light did not in certain respects exactly follow the laws which, according to calculation, should hold good for the Tyndall effect. The hypothesis which formed the basis of this effect would seem to involve, amongst other things, that the rays scattered to the sides were polarized. This, however, did not prove to be exactly the case. This divergence from what was to be expected was made the starting point of a searching study of the nature of scattered light, in which study Raman was one of those who took an active part. Some of Carol s ideas are ludicrous, out of proportion and not ready for the slow moving town. She tries several different approaches to reforming the town from the moment of her arrival. She goes from architectural reform to poetic reform to artistic to introducing liberalism to amusing social functions. All of these tactics she hopes will spring forth a reform movement to beautify and culturalize the town and people. Assuming an in depth reading of selected poems and lively discussions will take up the time, she is startled by the biographical and historical information that is shown off as great literary papers. She experiences the overwhelming control of small town politics and agreement with association that is exhibited in the play selection process. Her choice for the leading lady is dictated by the longing for social acceptance and the simple art of sucking up. She ascertains that her vision of the perfect play has been tainted by the unmotivated, unreliable and unscrupulous cast she has assembled. The consistent snide, off handed remarks and unannounced, unwanted suggestions echo the toils of community theater groups across the present Midwest. Carol has wonderful aspirations and ideas to help awaken the sleepy town of Gopher Prairie, but she is held back by the stiff, stubborn close mindedness of the small town. The obstacles she encounters are her own self criticisms. It is quite true that the townswomen gossip about her to no end, but if she could stop and listen, they gossip about each other just as much. Least to say when I saw a spin off, Fuller House was being released this past year to Netflix I was extremely excited. Coincidently, the spin off released during the time of this course. Believe it or not, I immediately referenced parenting styles to the episode where DJ Tanner punishes her son a little differently than Kimmy Gibler punishes her daughter, although the committed the same crime. I am hoping to dissect this exact scene, and discuss DJ parenting style towards her son. I find the parenting styles really interesting, specifically the four we discussed in module four and I really want to focus on that here. Earlier in the course, we discussed Darling four parenting styles and for some reason, these really stuck with me. The parenting style theory reflects four different types of parents. Indulgent parents tend to more responsive than they are demanding (Darling) I like to think of indulgent parents as what todays generation thinks of as cool parents . They tend to be more lenient and let the child do as they please because they want to avoid confrontation. Darling also discusses Authoritarian and Authoritative parents which are slightly different. Authoritarian style parents, are a little over barring. To me, I would consider this style to be a bulldozer parent. Authoritarian style parents are very demanding and very directive. • 24. Grant Wood’s American Gothic Essay Grant Wood s American Gothic is one of the most famous paintings in the history of American art. The painting brought Wood almost instant fame after being exhibited for the first time at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1930. It is probably the most reproduced and parodied works of art, and has become a staple within American pop culture. The portrait of what appears to be a couple, standing solemnly in front of their mid western home seems to be a simplistic representation of rural America. As simple as it sounds, when looking deeper into this image, it reveals something much more complex. The first thing to notice about this painting is how incredibly involved and realistic the brushwork is. The couple s faces are so delicately ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is almost a reflection of the man s trident. That same pitchfork shape also appears in the window of the house that sits in between both figure s heads. Repetition can also be seen in the dotted pattern of the woman s outfit, which also appears in the material of the curtain that hangs in the house s window. The echo of verticals in this painting is also strong. The faces and bodies of the figures seem to be stretched, and narrowed. The pitchfork s slender prongs and the green stripes on the man s shirt also add to the elongation of their frame. The copious amounts of vertical wood boards that make up the house and the barn, keep the viewer s eye moving up and down the picture plane. Wood s use of verticality in this painting is overwhelming. There is also a striking luminosity to the painting. The man and the woman s faces appear to slightly glow, as if you can really see the reflection of the sun beaming off of their skin. This was achieved by a complex method of applying glazes. Wood would apply a layer of oil paint, allow it to dry, and then varnish it. This tedious process would be repeated numerous times. It was a process perfected by the 16th century Venetian painter, Titian. The series of glazes seems to have created an overwhelming sense of depth and radiance within the paint. Wood s use of glazes is not the only reference to early Italian painters. It is clear that Wood was inspired by Northern ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The bicameral system was created by the Founding Fathers in order to carry out one of the most imperative functions of Congress, representation amongst other function such as legislation, deliberation and scrutiny. The Senate ensures each state is equally represented with two congressmen, equally the House of Representatives also has to carry out the function of representation but its representatives unlike the Senate are proportioned to the population of the states for example California has 55 representatives however Alaska has 1. Even though representation is an important and well known function of the legislature the extent to which it is carried out can be argued to have declined in the subsequent years due to factors such as the expansion of the population. The role of representation was intended to be carried out in 13 states under the Founding Fathers however the increase to 50 has made this function increasingly difficult. The creation of the House of Representatives ensured the function of representation would be carried out as the house was proportioned to equally represent all the states. Having a set number of representatives in one states according to population ensures that the voices of that state s population can be heard effectively. One of the most hindering disadvantages of Kabuki was its consistent location throughout every city: the Floating World. The Floating World was the most undesirable part of Japanese cities and had the rowdiest customers. Jonathan Leonard, in his book Early Japan, says that: The townsfolk demanded lusty pleasures. These they found in what was called the Floating World of restaurants and theaters, prostitutes and bath girls, wrestlers, singers, and dancers (Leonard 1968, 168). The Floating World was a sort of underground red light district run and occupied by the lower classes. This resulted in the audiences of Kabuki performances turning out to belong to those lower classes. (analyze that? What does it mean?))) Mao Zedong was perhaps the biggest advocate for mass violence. His plan, the Great Leap Forward, was a plan in which farmers would report higher agricultural gains than in reality. The Succeeding History on the Government of Hong Kong British Colonization and Beginning of Settlement The British occupied Hong Kong in 1841, which provided a significant socio economic growth. Stability was achieved through the principle of synarchy that endorsed the Chinese elite to enter into administrative and bureaucratic affairs. By the twentieth century, Chinese population had risen exponentially . The population was largely comprised of young, male migrants from China, who often commuted between their homeland and the industrial community. Socio economic classes were divided between merchants and manufactures, clerical, and workers and labourors. Merchants and manufactures were in an advantageous position to form the ruling elite in China, because of their ownership of money and productive capital, respectively. The majority of citizens were of lower class . On February 2, 1841, Captain Elliot proclaimed the basis of the colonial governments policy toward the Chinese. When the economy was stable, most dreams consisted of having a great career, a big house with all the luxuries imaginable. However, having a stable job, and saving for the future is simply what the American dream has become. Some may argue that the American dream is no longer out there because of the income inequality I assure to all those looking for the dream, inequality has always been there and we should not allow anything to stop us from achieving what we want. Like many working Americans, I never took the time to think about how income inequality affected us and how immense it has become. The problem with income inequality is its rapid increase, and the lack of effort to close that gap between the rich and the poor. According to Robert Franks in Income Inequality: Too Big to Ignore , income growth has always remained at the top 1 percent for instance, in 1976 it was 8.9 percent and by 2007 it rose to 23.5 percent (581). Low wages and high unemployment rates have contributed to the income gap. The question is what can the government do to help reduce the problem? If we think about it, there have always been plenty of obstacles, enabling us to achieve the American dream but one should never give up hope. Why Environmentalists Hate Capitalism Environmentalist and Capitalism The discussion we had in class and in the document is asking, Why do Environmentalists Hate Capitalism? and How Do Humans Affect the Environment? Well let s start off with the Environmentalist; they love to make the world a much safer and cleaner world. They think that Capitalist want to do more and take up more , making gas more expensive , taking more trees down to build more of what we need and mostly not need, It s our wants and our needs. However, the Environmentalist feels that the Capitalist want to take down trees for our own good. No, that is not true, we try to cut down trees and make buildings for the Environmentalist but they think it s for our own good. In 2020, the world will end because right now, China is falling slowly, and we mostly rely on China. Capitalist need to focus more on what they are doing with the resources and not use as much as they usually do. For example, instead of a whole acre we could use half of it. We could possibly own less cars, most of us have two or three cars. We can cut down to one to make it easier on everyone else and the world. But the Capitalist want money, they don t really care about the environment. They do whatever they can to make money and try to please people more so they can get more money. Well it matters because you will know how to get the best results in playing a tennis match, and instead of wasting a bunch of tennis balls, you will understand why it will bounce high in some locations and not others instead of thinking you have a bad ball. Plus, when you are playing a match, you will know how to adjust the amount of force you use on the ball and how you play the game. Also, this can relate to many other things besides tennis balls. In any situation every audience is different so therefore good reason can be impacted by culture, which let leaves the decision making to argumentation. The man s repeated sightings of the creature link it to something sinister, until it becomes a symbolic force of justice, frighteningly rebuking the hatter for his profanity of a sacred site (Lee). The goanna is a metaphor for a divine power, supernatural, fatalistic, and truly Weird. The idea that human activity is governed by a higher power, resulting in a lack of personal agency, is also explored in Picnic at Hanging Rock. Even before they arrive at their picnic spot, the convoy from Appleyard College seem to be greatly affected by Hanging Rock. Mathematics mistress Miss McCraw seems mesmerised by the monolith, speaking quietly and almost nostalgically (Green 11) about its creation: Silicious lava, forced up from deep down below. Soda trachytes extruded in a highly viscous state, building the steep sides mametons we see in Hanging Rock. And quite young, geologically speaking. Barely a millions years old. (Greene, 11) Vivean Gray s delivery of these lines as though enchanted demonstrates the power of the rock over the picnickers. Further, her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Theoretical Criminology s Theory Of Delinquency And Drug... Introduction According to Bernard, Snipes, and Gerould (2016), a theory is a reasonable explanation for something based on ones beliefs, attitudes, and available information that make up the intellectual and rational surroundings of people at different times. Therefore, theoretical criminology are facts about crime based on the same elements. Most theories attempt to pinpoint the type of criminal behavior the causes crime using one theory of another to explain the facts based one theory. A large portion of criminologist believe that too many theories exist that are inconsistence with proven research data and should be eliminated [by the process of falsification] as a source of information, while others believe these theories should ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The strain theory argues that delinquency may be caused because of ones failure to achieve a specific goal or satisfy specific needs such as social acceptance, monetary status, or status among peers (Bernard et al, 2016). According to Piquero and Sealock (2004) strain has three major causes: (1) failure to accomplish valued goals [positive expectations after completing a task], (2) the loss of something or someone considered close [a parent or serious relationship], (3) the presence of something associated with a negative event [physical abuse]. Research by Piquero and Sealock (2004) found that Agnew proposed a general strain theory that focuses on strain on the individual level caused by negative relationships with others, which may cause negative emotions resulting in crime. Agnew used this theory to specifically answer the question, why adolescence choose to engage in delinquent behavior and drugs (Piquero Sealock, 2001). Empirical evidence suggests when adolescents are confronted with a situation they perceive as harmful and being trapped in such as living at home and attending school, the possibility of deviant behavior increases. An example of the strain theory displayed in the movie dealt with the lack of parental supervision. Most of the teens in this movie had no real connection with their parents causing the group to spend a lot of time together, creating more opportunities to engage in delinquent behavior. This ... • 43. Emotional Intelligence In Health Care Essay Before discussing how a healthcare worker uses emotional intelligence when establishing communication with a client in a health care environment, it is imperative to first have a clear understanding of what emotional intelligence is. Only then can we assess how it is used by a healthcare worker when communicating with client and its relevance in such a setting. Defining what communication means in this context is also important to understanding how a healthcare worker uses emotional intelligence to establish effective discourse with a client. Communication is much more than just words and encompasses intrapersonal, interpersonal and observational skills which are critical when communicating with a client. With this in mind, it could be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As McEwen and Kraszewski (2010, p.1) point out, understanding and engaging various modes of communication affords the healthcare worker an opportunity to critically analyse the interactions between themselves and the patient. Information garnered through this analysis can prove vital when formulating an individual care plan for the patient. The links between emotional intelligence and communicating effectively can now be seen as taking a holistic approach to patient care. Establishing trust and respect is the foundation of good communication, and the use of emotional intelligence allows the healthcare worker to address the needs of a patient individually and this cultivates trust and respect within the relationship. However, as Birks and Watt (2007, p.368) point out, the level of emotional intelligence each healthcare worker possesses will vary and empirical studies measuring emotional intelligence are flawed. This brings into question any ideas of uniformity in the emotional intelligence approach to patient care. As such, developing consistent levels of effective communication within a healthcare environment through the use of emotional intelligence seems unlikely. This view is countered by Ioannidou and Konstantikaki (2008, p. 121), who suggest that emotional intelligence is something that can be taught. With the acceptance of this idea and with the use of the previously defined model of emotional intelligence, we can see how ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. Rakas V. Jerome Case Study Case Brief: Rakas V. Illinois 439 U.S. 128 (1978) Facts After being told the details of a supposed getaway car from a robbery, the police saw the car and began to drive after it (Rakas V. Illinois 439 U.S. 128 (1978)). The officers then took off after the car to conduct a search passed on probable cause. After completing the search the officers found a shot gun and shells within the car (Rakas V. Illinois 439 U.S. 128 (1978)). The owner of the vehicle had no correlations to the robbery, so the passengers took responsibility of the gun and ammo (Rakas V. Illinois 439 U.S. 128 (1978)). Upon their court date, the men that were incarcerated decided they wanted to motion to suppress the gun. However due to a lack of standing, the motion to suppress was denied (Rakas V. Illinois 439 U.S. 128 (1978)). Procedural History The petitioners wanted the Appellate Court of Illinois to reconsider the decision of convicting them with armed robbery (Rakas V. Illinois 439 U.S. 128 (1978)). Unfortunately, the courts did not change their mind on the conviction and denied to the suppression of the gun and ammo because the petitioners had no accurate reasoning as to why the search ...
