PALS (Peer Assisted Learning Strategies) is an instructional method that pairs students together to work on reading and math skills. Teachers identify specific skills individual students need help with and pair students so partners can help each other, taking turns as the "coach" and "player." PALS creates opportunities for differentiated instruction as students work simultaneously on different activities tailored to their individual needs. Research shows PALS improves student achievement in reading and math when implemented for 90 minutes per week with pairs consisting of students with differing abilities.
