Paint is a mixture of binders, solvents, pigments, and additives that is applied to surfaces to prevent corrosion, increase lifespan, and add color. Binders provide elasticity, gloss, adhesion and environmental resistance while pigments provide color and coverage. Solvents adjust flow and additives provide required properties. Proper mixing of paint ingredients is important to achieve the desired viscosity and application properties. Viscosity is measured using Ford cups to test the resistance of fluid to flow, with a stopwatch timing how long it takes paint to drain from the cup.

1. Paint prevents corrosion and rusting of the surface
2. It increases the life and appeal of the surface

6. What is thinner ?
Thinner is a solvent which gives flow property to paint and enhances the
ease of application.
It mainly contains solvents that dissolve the paint and gives secondary flow
to paint after application.

7. Why paint mixing ?
Raw paint doesn’t possess the required properties. (Like fluidity, hardness,
viscosity etc)
To bring the required properties thinner, additives , solvent etc are mixed with
paint.

8. Proper mixing of paint and setting the viscosity to the required level is critical as it affects
application properties.
Hence it is one of the most important process in paint shop.
