This document discusses the importance of mean time to repair (MTTR) over mean time to failure (MTTF) for system reliability. It argues that decreasing MTTR can improve user experience more than increasing MTTF alone. Specifically, it notes that MTTR can be directly measured and verified by customers, while very high MTTFs cannot. It also discusses how technology-independent thresholds for acceptable response times can guide targets for reducing MTTR.
