Pablo Picasso was born in Málaga, Spain and was a prolific artist who helped pioneer Cubism. He did not enjoy formal art instruction as a child and was often sent to detention where he would continue drawing. When he was 13, he was admitted to the School of Fine Arts in Barcelona but stopped attending classes. In 1900, Picasso moved to Paris where he befriended many famous artists and had his work promoted by American art collectors Leo and Gertrude Stein. Throughout his life, Picasso worked in various mediums including painting, sculpture, and ceramics and is estimated to have created over 50,000 works of art.
