Definition
Oxygen is a colourless ,tasteless ,odourless Gas that is
essential for body organ to survive.
PaCo2 - Partial Carbondioxide
Normal Range - 35 to 45 mmhg
Pao2 - Partial OOxyeg
Normal Range in Children - 80 to 100 mmhg
Normal Range in Adult - 50 to 80 mmhg
Spo2 full form is -
S – Saturation capillary
P - Peripheral
O2 - Oxygen
Normal Spo2 is - 96 to 100 %
Colour of Oxygen Cylinder is -
Black Body and white Neck
Humidifier water change
in every 24 hour.
Supply of Oxygen :
Thre are two ways to Supply oxygen in Hospital.
1. By Pipe/ Wall outlet
The pressure Store under 50 to 60 lbs
2. By Oxygen Cylinder
The Pressure under 2200 lbs
( 1000kg/Square inch)
Methods of Oxygen
Administartion
There are some methods as is -
1. Nasal Catheter
• Flow rate is 2-4 ltr/min.
• Change catheter every 8 to 12 hour.
• Most common method used in HoHospital.
• Inserted to the Uvula.
2. Nasal Cannula / Nasal Pronge
• It is Disposable.
• Two Cannula about 1.5 cm.
• Used for Low medium Concentration of Oxygen 24
to 44%
• Flow rate 1 to 6 ltr/min.
• Never Deliver more than 2-3 ltr/min to the patient
with COPD because patient not Tolerate.
• Increase Co2 is called Hypercapnia.
• Decrease Co2 is called Hypocapnia.
3. O2 Mask or Simple mask
• Flow Rate is 4 to 8 ltr/min.
• O2 Concentration is 40 to 60%.
• 5 ltr O2 = 40%
• 6 ltr O2 = 45 to 50%
• 8 ltr O2 = 55 to 60 %
4. O2 Hood method
• It is a small box, transparent and Dome shape
Device.
• This is used only in infant.
• Flow rate is 2 ltr/min
5. O2 tent Method
• It is a Canopy over the patient.
• Canopy should be Transparent.
• Flow rate is 8 to 10 ltr/min.
6. Venturi Mask / Venti Mask
• Normal flow rate is 3 to 15 ltr/ltr.
• Best method to Deliver oxygen in COPD patient.
• In COPD Flow rate is < 4 ltr / Min.
• The venturi mask colur Code, flow rate and Oxygen
Concentration -
Colour Flow Rate Oxygen
Concentartion
Blue 2 24%
White 4 28%
Orange 6 31%
Yellow 8 35%
Red 10 40%
Green 15 60%
7. Partial Rebreather Mask
• Flow rate is 6 to 15 ltr/min.
• Oxygen Concentration 70 to
Non Re-breather Mask
• Flow Rate is 10 to 15 ltr/min.
• Provide Higher concentartion of oxygen and can be
deliver and oxygen concentration > 90%
• It is most common method to use for oxygen.
T- Piece :
• Used on End of E.T tutu.
• Used as weaning from ventilator.
• It Provide Good humidity.
☆ If high Concentration of Oxygen for > 30 day cause
Retrolental Fibroplasia ( Abnormal Fibrous tissue )
• N2o * Nitrous Oxide- Laughing Gas
• Use in Analgesic and Anesthesia for O.T
• Colour - Blue Colour.
• Hilium - Colur Brown
• Used in MRI Machine to detect to Image.
