The Postal System As A Method Of Communication
There are three separate theories available which can be identified that could be used to confirm that an enforceable
agreement has been reached between parties using the postal system as a method of communication. These are, the
information theory, whereby the offeror notifies the offeree that the letter of acceptance has been received. The receipt
theory, which assumes a contract has been created on the receipt of a letter of acceptance and the dispatch theory, known
also as the postal rule which confirms that a contract has been entered into at the point in time that the letter of
acceptance is posted. Clearly, it is essential that when contracts are created using the postal system as a means of
communication it must possible to determine at what point the agreement becomes legally enforceable. When using the
postal system there is an inevitable risk that communications could be lost or delayed which, but for the postal rule
would create uncertainty for the party who is providing acceptance of the offer. Therefore, unless the offeror had
prescribed a specific or alternative method of communication it is the dispatch theory that is applied in English contract
law regarding the acceptance of agreements that are made using the postal system, this confirms certainty in the mind of
the offeree. This rule became established in English contract law as the result of the decision made in Adams v Lindsell
(1818) 106 ER 250. This was subsequently confirmed in The

Review Of Gaius Plinius Caecilius Secundus
Gaius Plinius Caecilius Secundus or Pliny the Younger was a roman aristocrat at the height of the Pax Romana. The Pax
Romana was a time of stability and peace throughout the roman empire. There was very minimal military activity. His
letters give us a view into the perspective of the roman aristocrat as well as an insight into roman society. The letters
also give a perspective of the lives of roman women during this time. Roman society was a very patriarchal during the
Pax Romana and women were considered much less important than men. This is apparent in his letters. There are very
few accounts in Pliny s letters that go into detail about the women of these times. The letters that do include female
characters are about aristocrats dominantly and give us only a biased snapshot of how they interact within roman
society. The character that we have the most to go on is Culpurnia. Calpurnia is the granddaughter of Calpurnius Fabitus
and wife of Pliny the Younger. In his letters he describes Calpurnia as becoming well adjusted to her role as Pliny s wife.
You are a model of family devotion, and you loved your brother, matching his deep regard for you with equal affection.
You love his daughter as if she was your own, and to her you re enact the fondness not only of an aunt, but also that of
the father she lost (4,19). Calpurnia was everything Pliny could ask for in a wife. He extolled her intelligence, her
devotion, and her expertise at looking after their home. She is

Why Dogs Are Important Pets
Major Important Essay
Dogs are really important pets. I think that they are important to our survival for many reasons. These reasons are that
they keep us healthy, protect us and can even discover disease.
Dogs help keep us healthy. According to Celia, walking a dog can help keep you heart healthy. A dog requires an owner
to work out and this creates health benefits. Just walking into a room can bring your stress level down. This helps keeps
you healthy. Dogs provide lots of benefits and can even keep us safe.
They can save our lives too. A dog named Kelsey saved her owner Bob s life when he slipped and fell into the snow in
Michigan. Kelsey layed on Bob and kept him warm for over 19 hours and barked all night. She barked and barked until

Frederick Jackson Turner Frontier Thesis Summary
The American Frontier consisted of a vibrant and expansive land made for the opportunity ofAmerican settlement until
the late 19th century. Unfortunately, the age of exploration of the Frontier officially ended in 1890 with the U.S Census
Bureau declaring that here can hardly be said to be a frontier line. A historian, Frederick Jackson Turner, claimed that
the Frontier shaped American culture and the attitude of Americans. By evaluating U.S Census Bureau statistics, he
famously wrote the Frontier Thesis. Along with the Frontier Thesis, Turner contributed to the field of New History,
primarily analyzing the West and Sectionalism of the United States. Today, historians acknowledge the tremendous
impact Turner s role in American Exceptionalism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Dbq Cholera Research Paper
Outbreaks of cholera were not isolated to the European and Asian continents, as several major cases within the United
States have been recorded back to colonial times. As trade increased with the old world, infected sailors bringing the
disease to major port cities, spreading it even further as products became distributed across the nation. Famously
documented as one of the most vital turning points for public health medicine within the US, the city of Chicago
mirrored what was unfolding in the 1854 London outbreak. Congruent to Snow s findings, entire families suddenly
became severely ill and dying off. As an effort to combat the pestilence, Ellis Chesbrough, an already established

Paying Attention Pays Off for Andra Rush
1. As we have discussed, competency models describe the behaviors and skills managers need to exhibit if an
organization is to be successful. Consider the general competencies found in Figure 7.3 and apply these to Andra Rush,
providing examples of how these competencies apply.
Competency models describe the behaviors and skills managers need to exhibit if an organization is to be successful
(Hughes, Ginnett, Curphy, p. 252). In many organizations, competency models can differ between the different
hierarchies of managers. As a person s leadership role evolves so do the behaviors and skills he or she must possess to
be an effective leader. This statement holds firm as with the case of Andra Rush.
Throughout the case study, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rush also showed adaptability which is the ability to confidently adapt and adjust to changes and challenges; and the
ability to maintain a positive outlook and work constructively under pressure. She followed through with the idea of
forming a trucking company by borrowing monies to purchase trucks, accepting every job offer, answering the phones,
budgeting the books, and repairing the trucks. This is also evident by the fact Rush can lead a large trucking company,
but also community organizations. Both have different leadership styles which she has to properly adjust to.
Another competency displayed by Rush is customer focus which is maintaining a clear focus on customer needs and
demonstrating a strong desire to provide exemplary customer service; and actively seeks ways to increase customer
satisfaction. With the formation of the company, Rush accepted every shipping job, even if she had to drive the trucks
herself. She pays attention and exceeds customer s expectations regardless of circumstances. Such as the case of when
local bridges were shutdown during September 11th attacks, Rush made a crucial shipment by renting a barge.
2. How does the Leadership Pipeline apply to Andra Rush?
The Leadership Pipeline is a useful model for explaining where leaders need to spend their time, what they should be

Kate Chopin Naturalism
Literature of the Late Nineteenth Century 1855 from 1910 was the influence of Realism and as well Naturalism.
Realism of literature was about the poetry and art. Famous authors from this period includes, Mark Twain, Kate Chopin
and Stephen Crane.
Twain was born in 1835 November, 30th in Florida and later died on 21st April 1910. Before his death, he played
significant roles in the society that brought impressions to the generation that existed and the one to come. He was the
best storyteller in the West, and this made him famous because out of it, his tales were printed in magazines and the
newspapers. Though he was brought up in the poor family, he worked hard and developed stories that later appeared
under different titles(Twain 12). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

woman writer and as a local colorist. She was capable of writing many stories, sketches in arcane magazines and essays
and at the selfsame time to take care of her children.
Kate Chopin was a woman who struggled to meet her objectives. She never lose hope and finally she made it. Though
she was frustrated by several situations, she never gave in. She left a legacy to those with comparable difficulties that
problems should not terminate our dreams.
On 1st November 1871, Stephen Crane was born. When his father died, Crane settled in New Jersey. Currently, the home
is preserved as a museum. Crane went to the public school and later went to the College of Arts at Syracuse University.
However, he never graduated. He had written for several years. His first novel that he had published by himself, Maggie,
a Girl of the Streets a Story of New York, did not succeed.
Crane started writing short stories and sketches immediately after the school. Am impressed by him because even
though he did not graduate, he was determined to serve and inspire the generation. Am convinced that self esteem is
important and should we should not intimidate ourselves because of not graduating. Goals and determinations in life are

Amyloid Synthesis
Amyloid beta (Aβ) is a short peptide contains 37 to 43 amino acids and is well known for its hypothesized role in
causing pathogenesis of AD, since one of the main hallmarks of AD is the accumulation of fibrillogenic Aβ in the grey
matter of the brain (14 15). Meanwhile, over 90% of AD patients have cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA) which is
characterized by the deposition of Aβ in capillaries, arteries, and arterioles (16 17). CAA causes the degeneration of
smooth muscle cells and leads haemorrhages (17).
Aβ is generated by proteolytic processing from its precursor, the amyloid precursor protein (APP), which is a type I
oriented membrane protein and its splicing variants include APP695, APP714, APP751, APP770 (18 21). The isoforms

The processing of APP involves three proteases, ι , β , and γ secretases and two processing pathways, the amyloidogenic
pathway and the anti amyloidogenic pathway as shown in Figure 2 (14, 23). The Aβ is generated in amyloidogenic
pathway which is mediated by β , and γ secretases (14). The β secretase first sheds the ectodomain of APP and generates
the APP carboxy terminal fragment (βCTF) (14). Then the γ secretase cuts at the transmembrane region of βCTF and
releases the Aβ into the extracellular fluids like cerebrospinal fluid or plasma (14, 24). In the anti amyloidogenic
pathway ι secretase first cuts at the middle region of Aβ so a trauncated APP CTF (ιCTF) is generated and after the
transmembrane cut of γ secretase, a truncated Aβ peptide is released (p3) (Figure 2; 25). The amyloidogenic and anti
amyloidogenic competes with each other (26 27). In addition, when the Îł secretase cuts at the transmembrane region of
APP, the cut site is not restricted to a single position. The Îł secretase first cuts at

Analysis Of Mark Twain s The Adventures Of Huckleberry...
CHAPTER III HUMANISM IN MARK TWAINS NOVELS A study of Mark Twain s Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
is an adventure in understanding changes in America itself. The book, at the center of American geography and
consciousness, asks readers to reexamine definitions of civilization and freedom, right and wrong, social responsibility
and inhumanity. Published in 1885, the novel recounts those pre civil war days when the controversy over slavery, with
designated slave and Free states, disfigured the face of America and its view of itself as a land of the free. Both
geographically and otherwise, the story is an examination of life at the center: the center of America s premier river, the
Mississippi in the middle of the geographical United states, with slave states below, free states above, which is the route
toward freedom and escape for Huck and Jim; the center of one of the foremost conflicts on American soil, slavery,
which soon results in a civil war; the center of the coming of age of both a young man and a nation that struggle to
understand redefinitions of nationhood and freedom, right and wrong; and the center of a shift from Romanticism to
Realism in art and letters that would provide for a new way for Americans to express and re create themselves. The
novel offers an excellent example of American picaresque fiction and meaningful use of dialect, although this dialect
may be difficult reading for students for whom English is not a first language. Although the final

Organizational Culture Is The Key Values, Beliefs And...
Organizational Culture:
Organizational Culture is the key values, beliefs and attitudes shared by the members of an organization. Organizational
culture includes an organization s expectations, experiences, philosophy, and values that hold it together, and is
expressed in its self image, inner workings, interactions with the outside world, and expectations for the future. A key
source of organizational culture is usually its founder. It can be sustained by creating and spreading organizational
stories and organizational heroes.
London Drugs has had a strong culture since it was founded 70 years ago. Their culture was originally focused on
entrepreneurship and is very original. A big part of their culture focuses on taking care of their people and helping out
communities. London drugs does this by providing family assistance program to its employees. An example of this
family assistance program is where employees are helped during their hard times like funerals. Keeping the environment
clean is another important element of London Drugs culture. They have created the What s the Green Deal? program,
which ensures everything in the company is done in a way which does not harm the environment. According to the Vice

Progeria And Eukaryotic Analysis
Progeria is a rare disease that affects the nuclear envelope (lamina), and makes the nucleus unstable. It is caused by a
mutation in the LMNA gene that produces an abnormal protein. This abnormal protein is called progerin, and it causes
the process of premature ageing in an individual.
Eukaryotic cells contain a sphere shaped nucleus that protects the genetic information (DNA) and separates it from the
cytoplasm. The nucleus itself is protected by a double membrane called, the nuclear envelope. The nuclear envelope is
made up of nuclear membranes, nuclear lamina, and nuclear pore complexes. The nuclear lamina is the sturdy protein
that gives the nucleus its structure and shape. As well as providing structural support, the nuclear lamina is required for
most nuclear activities, such as chromatin organization, DNA replication, cell cycle regulation, nuclear positioning
within the cell, assembly/disassembly of the nucleus during cell division, as well as for modulating master regulatory
genes and signaling pathways. (Baek, McKenna, Eriksson; 2013) The ability of the cell to ... Show more content on

(Progeria Research Foundation; 2003) Normally, the amino acid produced is lamin A, but when progerin is produced it
gains a high liking for the nuclear membrane, causing disruptions to the nuclear lamina. Without lamin A, the nuclear
lamina cannot provide the structural support for the nuclear envelope, causing it to take on an abnormal shape. This
causes a huge strain for cell division; without the support that the nuclear lamina usually provides, the organization of
chromatin for mitosis is disrupted and cell division is limited. When cells use progerin, they start to break down easier.
Progerin builds up in many cells of the individuals, causing them to grow up faster than normal. Because of this the rate
of ageing is 8 10 times faster than

Sexism In Disney Fairytales
Introduction Disney fairytales have been a popular cartoon brand that is loved by children and young adults for many
decades. However, these fairytales usually have a constant theme where princesses most of the time are shown to be the

due to their animation based and fantasy story lined films. Disney fairytales and children folktales encountered most of

Large Lake Essay
Michigan s literally translation from the Ojibwa nation is Large Lake but the natives know it by the Great Lakes State.
These names come from the history and prominence of the water features throughout the state. The beginning of shaping
the current landscape of the state was with the glaciers. Glaciers are large bodies of ice that travel across land leaving
behind deposits and reshaping the land as it moves. The most common features are moraines, drumlins, eskers, till
plains, valley trains, kames, and kettles.
Moraines are are long lines of ridges and festoons of hills composed essentially of boulder clay or till which was

The present day physical landscape of Michigan was not accomplished until the late Pleistocene. The Midwest was
dominated by four massive glaciers with Michigan s average glacial drift ranging from 200 to 300 feet and a thickness
of 1,000 feet in some locations (2017, DNR). Michigan s glacial deposits are estimated to three hundred over the entire
state (2009, Berquist).
The melting allowed the liquefied water to carry the various rocks and soils in landscape deposits. As the melting
increased, the weight of the glacier on the Michigan basin was decreasing. With less pressure on the basin, it began to
rebound into its original shape while maintaining the integrity of the glacial deposit landforms. About fourteen thousand
years ago, the Wisconsin Glacier covered the entirety of Michigan with its northernmost head at the Hudson Bay and
stretching to the banks of the Ohio River as shown in Figure 1 (2017, DNR). These glacial movements were guided by
the pre glacial rivers that were further carved by the massive ice sheets to carve valleys. Although drainage was
occurring in the Great Lakes region during the pre glacial area, it is nearly impossible to reproduce its exact original
features (2009, Berquist). Many lobes of the glaciers sculpted the current boundaries of the Great Lakes. One of these
was the Huron, Erie Lobe which shaped the basins of lakes Huron and Erie (2009, Berquist). Lake Superior was

Happiness And Happiness In The Art Of Happiness
You should never stress about being happy, happiness is in everyone deep in down we just have to do certain things in
order to let it shine. According to McMahon in order to be happy there s no need to think about it. McMahan states in
paragraph eleven, Those who are happy, he came to believe, who have their minds fixed on some object other than their
own happiness; on the happiness of others, on the improvement of mankind, even on some art of pursuit, followed not as
means, but as itself an ideal end. McMahon believes you should be a part of something bigger than yourself. This means
help out others by doing something you normally wouldn t do something out of the ordinary. Helping others gives you a
heart warming feeling, and many can agree on this. Lastly Mill does believe you should spend time with people that
mean the most to you like loved ones, a little of our happiness is based on the people we surround ourselves with.
McMahon is right about being apart of something bigger than yourself because helping others be happy makes us feel
good about ourselves, and more confidence to keep pursuing it.
Be yourself and always move forward, happiness doesn t come from being someone you re not. According to berns in
the video Ted talk you should always move on if you can t do something, focus on what you can. When people are stuck
on something they tend to give up and feel very self conscience best thing to do is walk away from the situation and do
what you re best at. We need a positive attitude in order to achieve what we want and to be essentially happy. Sam Berns
chose to be happy he chose not to let the little things get in his way of achieving what he wanted, it s all based on you.
Yes he could have been sad, because of the horrible disease that stopped him to doing bigger things in life yet he was
still smiling and moving forward as always his muato.
Some people may say you should spend money on yourselfs and materialistic items to be happy. Every person s desire is
to be truly happy, they do believe that money can fit that desire for themselves. According to the Ted Talk called Happy

probably saved her a lot of time and stress, it does not necessarily follow that everyone should do the same. Health is a
major contribution to someone s life. If you were to ignore keeping your health up, you could end up with no friends,
family, work, or success, because it could be fatal. With today s advancement in medication and technology, it is a lot
easier to keep yourself healthy than it used to be. If someone were to turn the health burner off in their lives, they could

Hate In The Count Of Monte Cristo
Throughtout The Count of Monte Cristo, by Alexandre Dumas, the theme hate is clearly exhibited by multiple
characters. As described by oxforddictionaries.com, hate is to have a strong aversion to (something). The main
protagonist in The Count of Monte Cristo, Edmond Dantes, was immensly wronged by four of his peers and was
sentenced to waste his life away in the Chateau d If. Moreover Haydee, Dantes associate, was sold into slavery by one
of the quintets who betrayed Dantes. In due course, Dantes and Haydee alike dedicate their entire lives to punish and
take revenge upon those who caused them to suffer. Alexandre Dumas emphasizes the emotional standpoint of these
characters as they assasinate the conspirators, Gaspard Caderousse, Fernand ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Count of Monte Cristo held Danglars in prison under Vampa and forced Danglars to purchase food at absurd prices.
Since Danglars was the main instigator and root of Edmond s suffering, he decided to deplete Danglars fortune. The
reader can feel Edmond s conviction of hate when he states, I m the man you betrayed and dishonored, the man whose
fiancee you prostituted, the man on whom you trod on the way to fortune, the man whose father you caused to die of
hunger... (Dumas 522). All Edmond Dantes wanted to accomplish to make Danglars suffer and strip away the the only
thing that mattered to him, wealth. This situation is comparible to Faust when Mephistopheles states, In vain he will
pray to slake his inner thirst,/ And even he not sold himself to the devil/ He would be equally accursed... (Goethe 216
218). Correspondingly, both characters stole the most important thing from their victim, Edmond took Danglar s fortune
while Mephistopheles siezed Faust s soul. The picture is a representation of the bandit prison scene where Danglars is an
inverted trapezoid and Edmond is a red half circle. The black lines under Danglars are the pilars of stability and are
meant to show how he is nothing with out his money that is flying away from him. The black line across the paper is a
symbol of the divide between Danglars and Edmond in which Edmond now has all the power and

Anarchist Opposition Of Nozick s Minimal State
Anarchist opposition of Nozick s minimal state is founded on the argument that the minimal state is too big. There are
also those who contend that the minimal state is too small and cannot facilitate the distribution of resources. Therefore,
such a state cannot address the differences among citizens. This argument follows that because there is an imbalance in
the distribution of resources, those who do not have the resources have some limits to living good lives. However,
Nozick argues that this kind of distributive justice is not fair. This is because resources are initially acquired or produced
by individuals and are not distributed. The distribution by the state would amount to redistribution which would violate
the rights of the owners

Devices Should Be Taught In Schools Essay
Would the teachers of SJNCS rather have their students learn in a creative and fun way or have them falling asleep in
class? The best way and most effective way is having us the students bring our own devices to school. We can learn and
still have fun using our phones, tablets, laptops, and even kindles. The students of St. John Neumann Catholic School
should be able to bring their own devices to school.
First of all, students can read on their devices. Using ebooks we get so much more options to choose from ranges of
academic and popular books. Having so many options we can read for A.R easily. Every 4 weeks the students have to
get 10 or more points, and sometimes it s hard finding the right book in the school library. Also most times we can t
even go to the library because it s either not open, we have class, or we have too much to do in study to be able to go. In
other words, our devices let us have more varied book options and an easier access to books. Another way we can use
our devices to read is using our devices to read book assignments that the teachers assign. Recently, we have been given
short stories to read in our textbook, but most times these short stories are actually long. ... Show more content on

We could actually save some of the school s money that is used on the ipads. By bringing our own devices, the school
can maybe cut back on some of its older technology, such as some of the older ipads and computers. Most kids in this
generation have ipods, ipads and phones, but some do not. The ones who don t would still be able to use computers and
ipads that are provided with the school. However, with the students bringing their devices the school can have the
opportunity to be a high tech school. With all the changes, our school can make changes in letting the students have

Education and America
Are Teachers Responsible? In his article Kenneth Cole Gets Schooled David Sirota writes, Taking an honest look at
America s education system brings up queries about why other less economically stratified nations have unionized
teachers and far better academic results than here in America (761) Students in other countries such as Korea, Finland,
Japan, the Netherlands, and Canada have far better academic results than those in America, yet the teachers are not the
one who need to be accepting all the blame for the failing academic standards. I am an elementary education major and

In some countries throughout the world kids are put on tracks dependent upon their careers; some get to go further in the
education system than others. Often times these career tracks are ones chosen for them based upon the family they were
born into and their parents wealth and educational knowledge. Some countries even do inventory tests in order to place
students on a track and decide if they get to continue in education or if they are required to go straight into the work
force. One point Carlos Xabel Lastra AnadĂłn and Paul E. Peterson bring up in their article is that while we need to learn
from countries such as Korea, Finland, Japan, the Netherlands, and Canada we must not copy exactly what they are
doing but more so do what is best for our educational system (1.) I agree with the point they have made, I do not believe
we should implement all of the educational ideas these countries have. I believe this because like America s educational
system their systems have flaws as well. But instead we should learn from their mistakes and apply and implement them
into our own system as needed. In doing this step I believe we can make our educational system more successful and
proficient in comparison with these countries.
Furthermore, I think in America the freedom and availability we have here in America has allowed us as students to

The Pros And Cons Of Cloning
Cloning A very controversial topic in the world today is cloning, some believe that it is very unethical and we should not
be cloning people. Cloning researchers employ a technique called somatic cell nuclear transfer,t involves removing the
nucleus from an egg and replacing it with the nucleus from a somatic cell (a regular body cell, such as a skin cell),
which provides a full complement of 46 chromosomes. The egg is then stimulated and, if successful, begins dividing as a
new organism at the earliest (embryonic) developmental stages. This new individual is genetically (virtually) identical to
the person from whom the somatic cell was taken. It is a human clone.(Stark, Paul). The process of cloning for research
is even seen as dangerous to people. When we start to clone for research, it builds a pathway for scientists and people to
want to start cloning to produce children. (Stark, Paul). Most of the world feels that it extremely unethical and if we turn
to cloning humans it could raise many health concerns. Yet having the majority think that cloning is very unethical, there
is still a community that believes cloning can help out the world in a greater way. When you think of cloning what does
your mind begin to think about? It thinks of the cloning of humans, and many people are unhappy with the fact that this
may be coming soon. However, some people still like the benefits that could come with cloning. Human cloning should

Harold And Maude Film Techniques
According to the film of Harold and Maude directed by Hal Ashby, there is a scene where both Harold (a kid who thinks
suicidal), along with his mother by the name Vivian are sitting down, not even facing the same direction of each other.
Vivian begins to ask back to back questions to Harold based on the national computer dating services. During the scene,
Harold looks straight ahead while his mother is looking down at the form of questions she is constantly asking him. The
whole time, Harold does not say a word and his mother answers each question herself, as she would know her son s
answers. Harold slowly pulls out a handgun out of a case located on his lap. He then aims the gun towards his mother

In the scene, they are wearing luxurious attire inside of an elegant setting. Harold was wearing a dapper suit and tie,
while the mother was wearing a nice dress with an appealing necklace and purse. This would be the assumption they

he aimed the gun her way and kept it steady with confidence, a viewer could easily tell Harold was fed up by his own
mom. As most kids with their parents, this shows an exaggeration of how they could feel when parents are annoying
them when they do not want to be bothered or dislike them as a whole. Lastly, an ideology that both works and can be

Stay Out of Our Lives!
December 1, 2012 Stay Out of Our Lives! Why is it that when gods and goddesses have affairs with us mere mortals and
nymphs it leads to our tragedies! There are so many stories about a god or goddess falling for a mortal or nymph and
then another god or goddess gets jealous or interferes with them and then the poor mortal gets cursed or gets ditched!
But out of all these stories none are more tragic then the ones where Zeus cheats on his wife Hera, who then out of
jealousy curses the poor women! Hera is known for being revengeful on those who interfere with her marriage to Zeus.
But what she doesn t see is that most of the time the poor girl was just a victim. Unless you re Echo; she did deserve her
punishment, and you will see why. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now if Narcissus had just let Echo explain by writing it down or something then they could have fallen in love, gotten
married, and so on. And Narcissus wouldn t have refused Echo because she would have been able to talk to him and get
to know him. Echo would have been able to talk if Hera hadn t cursed her. And Hera wouldn t have cursed her if Zeus
had just been faithful! In another version of this story Echo was still the beautiful nymph with an amazing voice. She
lived deep in the woods and, denied the love of any mortal or god. She attracted the god, Pan, but, who she turned down
like all the others. Pan was so angry he sent his shepherds to kill Echo by tearing her apart and spreading her pieces far,
and wide. Gaea received the pieces and scattered them so Echo s voice, and talents, could be heard everywhere
(Pontikis). Now it s a different version of the story but it s the same thing Pan messed with Echo s life, and because of
that it all ended in her doom. So as I ve been saying over, and over again, if those selfish gods would just stay out of our
love lives then none of this would have ever happened. Half of the Greek tragedy stories would have never existed. Now
this story also tells us other things about the Greek myths for many of the gods judge our moral actions like Hera does.
Narcissus being turned into a flower is an example of Greek myths explaining how things came

Dotcom Research Paper
The Dotcom Bubble During the 1990s, as the Internet became available to the public and usage of it was on the rise,
new start up companies (start ups) within the technology industry emerged. The Internet and technological
advancements at the time enabled these companies to rapidly spread the word about their business; people were excited.
The revolutionizing start ups, known as Dotcom companies, (Dotcoms) embraced the Internet as key components of
their business ( Dotcom ) and experienced spectacular initial public offerings (IPOs) and rapid increases in stock prices.
This eventually led to a bubble; a bubble that burst in the early 2000s. Economics scholars Stephen G. Cecchetti and
Kermit L. Schoenholtz explain that the Nasdaq Composite Index (Nasdaq), a stock market index that is composed of
numerous small start ups as well as large information technology (IT) firms, doubled in value from September 1999 to
March 2000, then fell by 70 percent over the next year (209). Along with the bursting bubble came financial distress that
spread across the entire economy. Because Dotcoms were prominent in the bubble, the bubble has later been called the
Dotcom Bubble. To fully understand the Dotcom Bubble, however, one must understand how bubbles are created, ...

The Democracy And Human Rights
For as long as it has existed, the Chinese government has been power hungry, They have limited the freedom of citizens
so that they can make the decisions themselves, such as not allowing citizens to vote for government officials. Instead,
officials are simply appointed by others in government. Citizens want reform, protests have occurred across the country
for change to a democratic system so that citizens can finally elect the people that represent them. This would give
citizens more power, but as result, take some away from the government, which they do not want. The Chinese
government needs to listen to their citizens and change to a democratic system to give them more freedom and make
them happier. The status of democracy and human rights in China is not where it could be. Both are limited in the
following ways. According to Noah Berlatsky, China s government is authoritarian and undemocratic. Leaders are for
the most part appointed and not elected. Media in China are regulated, and protest against the government is strictly
limited (Berlatsky). This means that the citizens of China do not have the ability to influence who is elected. The already
appointed government officials decide and appoint others. The Chinese government also strictly limits protesting. There
is a popular practice known as Falun Gong, which includes exercises and the study of several books. This was founded
by Li Hongzhi in 1992, and by 1998, it had 70 million practitioners. The Chinese

Should Adoptees Have The Right To Access To Original Birth...
My mother was adopted, along with her twin sister. Now, my mom wants to know who her parents are., bBut, there are
laws preventing her from doing so. The big question in this essay is, Should adoptees have the right to know who their
biological parents are, You could also phrase it asking the question, Do adoptees have the right to access original birth
certificates? This question covers much more, and will be what the information in this essay circles around. This essay
covers three things: adoptees have the right to access to original birth certificates because they have questions, because
of equality issues, and because of the doors it opens to adoptees that have empty holes in their history.
First, adoptees have the right to have access to original birth certificates because they have questions. Questions about
their health, questions about who they came, who they got their blue eyes from, and other such things. As Melinda
Elkins Dawson, one of 200 newborns relocated to other states for adoption in Georgia in the 50 s and 60 s says, Every
adopted child has questions. Adoptees, especially adoptees who are older, feel empty spaces in their history, and they
want to be able to fill them. We don t have a history. Our history begins the day we were adopted into a new family... It s
important to know where you came from. Bob MacNish says, of how not knowing your past, which makes an empty

Comparing Chaucer s Friar And The Parson
Today, I will be comparing and contrasting Chaucer s Friar and Parson. More so, show how they have the same kind of
job yet be far different in their personalities and be perceived differently by Chaucer. The parson, as proof will show, is a
kind hearted and devout follower of his religion. Conversely, the Friar, despite having the same type of job, has a far
different demeanor. Firstly comes the similarity of their jobs. The Friar and the Parson are both characters of similar
social stature and are both committed to the church, one more so than the other. In all Four Orders there was none so
mellow (Line 214). This quote shows that he is part of one of the four orders whom are allowed to beg for money. There
was a Friar (Line 212). Here Chaucer very clearly states what his profession is. He was a noble pillar to his Order (Line

Sweetly he heard his penitents at shrift with pleasant absolution, for a gift (Line 225 226). The Friar, a greedy swindler,
will absolve people of their sins if they pay him. That shows that he is really only doing his job for personal gain. He
was an easy man in penance giving (Line 227). A truly religious Friar would give the penance one deserves, but instead
he will take bribes for lesser penances. One should give silver for a poor Friar s care (Line 236). Quite clearly, the Friar
has started charging people for things that should cost them nothing. Following the bible, the Parson is quite the
opposite of the Friar. A holy minded man of good renown (Line 487). Chaucer describes the Parson as a man whose
mind follows only the teachings of Christ. He much disliked extorting tithe (Line 496). Contrary to the Friar, the Parson
has no goal of making money. First following the word before he taught it (Line 507). The Parson makes sure he is
following the word of God before he teaches other people about it, something the Friar does not

Why The Disease Has Been An Enemy Of A Human Ever Since It...
Tae Hyun Hwang
Mrs. McGee
Section 3
27 April 2015
The disease has been an enemy of a human ever since it first appeared. In fact, humankind has been at war with the
disease for most of history, often at the losing end. However, the principle of immunization equalized this adversarial
relationship. The concept of vaccination has been one of the most significant medical advancements in history because it
has prevented the onset of deadly diseases, has eradicated previously malignant maladies, and has improved human life
by removing fear of acquiring such contagious afflictions.
The institution of vaccination began with smallpox. Smallpox had been a very eminent fatal disease throughout the
world, an extremely serious disease from 10,000 BC. It was most likely that the smallpox started by the Egyptian
merchants. It was found out that the mummified head of the Egyptian pharaoh Ramses V showed the symptoms of
smallpox. ( Edward Jenner . . . ) From that time on, smallpox had spread on to Europe, Asia, and America. Speckled
monster , a nickname for smallpox, had attacked, especially in Europe, where the death rate reached up to 60%. (
Edward Jenner . . . ) It had killed millions of people with no one knowing how to prevent it. Even though there were
people who survived, one third went blind and had a huge scar especially on the face. In Europe of an 18th century,
400,000 people died from smallpox every year. ( Edward Jenner . . . ) Smallpox had been the very mysterious

Today, San Francisco apartments for sale in this influential neighborhood have an average listing price of $759,000
compared to other areas of San Francisco of similar listing prices for $750,000. The variances for square foot costs are
computed as a result of the apartment s size and its location in the neighborhood. Top of the hill tends to be higher with
declining costs toward the mid section and escalating again as you reach the lower level location on the city streets.
Here s an example, based on the current listings the average square foot apartment cost on Nob Hill today. The
differences are a direct result of the number of listings and final closing price for the area.

Creon s Determination In Sophocles Antigone
Antigone is a play by Sophocles which embellishes the rivalry between Creon who stands for the state values and
Antigone who stands for family values, the start at the end of a battle between Polyneices and Eteocles, brothers of
Antigone and Ismene. The two siblings kill each other, and this makes Creon new king of Thebes. Moreover, Creon
gladdens trueness above anything else, and he cannot stand disloyalty or watch at the state rules being broken mainly by
a woman. Contrarily, Antigone cherishes personal conscience and love for her brother which transcends state laws
irrespective of any situation that befall her. Antigone s incredible brevity makes her deserve our admiration for her
resolve and determination, (Goheen, Robert F page 45). In this essay, I will exemplify some of the reasons as to why
Antigone really ought to have our admiration for her resolve as well as determination. In addition to this, I will conclude
by giving my views based on the entire essay.

Antigone bewails Creon s order that anyone who attempts to mourn or bury Polyneices must be stoned to death. Some
argue that Antigone ought to be the chief protagonist. To buttress this point, they argue that her name is used as the title
of the play. However, what they fail to consider is that Sophocles intentions in the play were to highlight Antigone and
her soon to be a deadly clash with Creon hence the fundamental title, Antigone. Analytically speaking, Creon does to be
regarded Tragic hero instead of Antigone. There is no doubt as to the ultimate nature of the work, that being tragedy.
Along the play s genre comes specific developed prerequisites and Creon is the only character in the play that
substantially fits them all, (Goheen, Robert F page

Mattel Toys Recall Case Study
MATTEL TOYS RECALL CASE STUDY Product recall: On August 14, 2007, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety
Commission (CPSC) in cooperation with Mattel announced five different recalls of Mattel s toys. On September 4,
Mattel announced three more recalls. Some were due to the use of lead paint, while others were due to small magnets
coming loose.
On August 2, 2007, Mattel s Fisher

Clearly Mattel did not have sufficiently tight quality control procedures in its supply chain to compensate for the extra
risks of outsourcing to relatively new Chinese subcontractors. Clearly there were design flaws in the toys with the
magnets that could come loose. But Mattel deserves praise for now stepping up to its responsibilities as the leading
brand in the toy industry.

‐What has Mattel done! : The CEO has taken personal charge of the situation. He has apologized publicly and taken
immediate steps to tighten quality assurance requirements on Mattel s suppliers. Mattel is effectively getting the word
out about the recall. Among other methods, the company is using bold red ads on high

The Musical Theatre Of America
Musical Theatre in America
Before the 20th century, people used music and dancing to tell stories, but it had nothing to do with developing musical
theater. Musical theatre is a type of play that tells a story through songs, spoken dialogue, and dancing. During the 20th
century, there was a lot of change going on in Musical Theatre. Musicals are different from other types of stage works
such as opera because a musical would not be a musical without the music, story line, or dancing. European operetta
was becoming more popular than American Musical Theatre. The two main types of opera that were being made were
called ballad operas and comic operas which had romantic plots. American composers sought to come up with
something new, since Musical Theatre was not very popular with the general public. There were a lot of components that
helped shape musical theatre in America , but most think that it was mainly developed because of the different tastes
developing, likeable styles, spirit and energy by composers in America, it was not. Although musical theaters origins are
not certain, Musical theatre gradually developed using influences of ballad opera, comic opera, operetta, vaudeville, and
burlesque.
Musical theatre had not been called musicals , although there were previous stage entertainments. Before the 20th
century there was a reported first musical written entitled The Disappointment was a ballad opera that was taken from
rehearsal because it contained

Change Detection Essay
3.2.4 Change Detection
Change detection is the identification of variations in land cover types by observing a specified area at different times
using multi temporal data sets from satellite images. Spatio temporal satellite images of a specified geographic area
were processed and classified to produce thematic maps for 1984, 1995, 2006 and 2016 then the classified maps were
compared and overlaid to visualize the changes on the area in the span of time. The total area covered by each class in
each study year was calculated and the amount and rate of change for each land cover classes analyzed. However, this

They are algorithms that quantify specific spatial characteristics of patches, patch types or classes, entire landscape
mosaics, or the spatial context of individual cells within a patch mosaic.
Zonal Metrics: are spatial metrics to calculate selected numerical indices at zonal level. They are newly developed
spatial metrics in ZonalMetrics python toolbox which is a new open source tool developed by Adamczyk and Tiede
(2017) with a specialized functionality for calculating landscape metrics on the zone level. The source code is free and
open to the community and can be customized with ArcGIS 10.2 or latest versions. In zonal metrics the study area is
divided into user specified zones and statistics are computed per zones.
Patches: are defined as surface areas that differ from their surroundings in nature or appearance (Laurent, 2006) and one
of the basic elements that make up a landscape and building blocks of spatial metric calculation. Patches must be
defined in relation to the phenomenon to be investigated. For this study patches refer to individual built up area
polygons surrounded by non built up environments such as agricultural, open spaces or green areas, irrespective of their
size.

Sigmund Freud s Representation of Three Tall Women Essay
A Deeper Understanding of Three Tall Women
According to Sigmund Freud, psychoanalysis is a procedure for the investigation of mental processes which are almost
inaccessible in any other way (Fodor and Gaynor 147). It becomes a deeper contrast of a person s mentality to consider
the design of interplay within the urging and checking forces of the conscious and unconscious (Fodor and Gaynor 147).
Freud s representation of Three Tall Women, relate the characters by the neuroses that sometimes result from the
suppression of memories and desires too painful to deal with (Freud, The Dependent Relationship of the Ego). While not
completely opposing religion as a factor in the conscious and unconscious, Freud does claim that ... Show more content

The play expresses the idea of virtue and C s hope of avoiding the fate of A, which in turn shows that there exists a
strong desire to maintain a life that consists in pleasing an authoritative figure or higher power (such as God). It may be
discovered, with the help of the analytical mind of Carl Jung, that the study of religious experience [can] be
regarded...as the study of the fundamental, natural and therapeutic psychic process, in which the individual seeks self
knowledge, self regulation, and self fulfillment (Palmer 109). Freud teaches us his idea of the ego, superego, and the id.
The ego consists of the conscious thought, which is understood as the cartoon character [that] has a devil on one
shoulder and an angel on the other (Freud, The Dependent Relationship of the Ego). Literally speaking, character A was
faced with the battle between devil and angel, good and evil, and it is the branches of herself in B and C that such a
contrast is shown.
Character C is the object of the angel and represented by innocence, the character traits of a child, because she is the
little one, the character with the least amount of experience in the world (Albee 39). While Freud may claim that this
character represents the id in that she takes the majority of her influence from the unconscious part of her mind that says
what she wants, Jung looks at the character with the idea of an archetypal self. Based on Jung s study, archetypes

The Role Of An Engineer Essay
When talking about engineering, people would probably have pictures in their mind of engineers using machines
producing parts, drawing and sketching designs, or even doing some mathematical calculations. A more general answer
to what engineers actually do would be that they solve social problems through the use of machines, devices, systems,
materials and processes. They are all absolutely correct. But in reality, both the job and the role of an engineer are more
complicated. They do not only have to work with machines and designs. Engineers are often involved in
communications and negotiations. They have to work with different people and the responsibility that they have is
massive. Important decisions are made by them and they have to use their own judgement. And very often, ethical
considerations are already built into the decisions they make. In order to make the best decisions, they have to be
understood in the context of their role in society and, moreover, they need to develop good ethical awareness and be able
to deal with the dilemmas that they have to face every day. As mentioned above, it is very important for engineers to
understand their own responsibilities. In 1960, the Conference of Engineering Societies of Western Europe and the
United States of America defined professional engineer as follows:1 A professional engineer is competent by virtue of
his/her fundamental education and training to apply the scientific method and outlook to the analysis

Discussion Of Honesty In Shakespeare s Othello
People can have anything they so desire, that is, if they are willing to sacrifice something in return. William Shakespeare
s play Othello raises the question as to whether honesty is truly the best policy, and if lying is truly okay. Throughout the
story, the character Iago is portrayed as someone who is manipulative and dishonest, while under the guise of being an
honest person, Honest Iago. Desdemona, wife to Venetian Moor general, Othello, remains an honest person even while
being accused of being a deceitful liar. The benefits and drawbacks to both lying and speaking the truth clash with one
another resulting in having
The benefit to the usage of deceit can be exemplified in the main antagonist, Iago. Throughout the majority of the play
Iago is held to be an honest man, often called Honest Iago. He serves as protagonist Othello s ancient/ensign and is ...

Desdemona contrasts Iago s character almost entirely. Often telling the truth and never lying throughout the entirety of
the play except for a single instance. She speaks her mind when testifying for her marriage with Othello when her father
tries to have Othello condemned for stealing his daughter. The honesty pays off as Desdemona s father has to come to
terms with the outcome and accept what has happened. Like everyone else, she is ignorant to Iago s plot of getting
revenge against Othello and taking Cassio s position of lieutenant for himself. From the very beginning of the play
Desdemona s honest nature is revealed before the audience. An example of this is when she is brought before the Duke
of Venice and her father on the case of her elopement with Othello. She speaks her mind and reveals her conflict on her
loyalties to her father and her loyalties to Othello. In the end stating that she chooses Othello while believing that she
owes her father for her life and education, she holds nothing back and reveals her

  • 2. The Postal System As A Method Of Communication There are three separate theories available which can be identified that could be used to confirm that an enforceable agreement has been reached between parties using the postal system as a method of communication. These are, the information theory, whereby the offeror notifies the offeree that the letter of acceptance has been received. The receipt theory, which assumes a contract has been created on the receipt of a letter of acceptance and the dispatch theory, known also as the postal rule which confirms that a contract has been entered into at the point in time that the letter of acceptance is posted. Clearly, it is essential that when contracts are created using the postal system as a means of communication it must possible to determine at what point the agreement becomes legally enforceable. When using the postal system there is an inevitable risk that communications could be lost or delayed which, but for the postal rule would create uncertainty for the party who is providing acceptance of the offer. Therefore, unless the offeror had prescribed a specific or alternative method of communication it is the dispatch theory that is applied in English contract law regarding the acceptance of agreements that are made using the postal system, this confirms certainty in the mind of the offeree. This rule became established in English contract law as the result of the decision made in Adams v Lindsell (1818) 106 ER 250. This was subsequently confirmed in The ... • 3. Review Of Gaius Plinius Caecilius Secundus Gaius Plinius Caecilius Secundus or Pliny the Younger was a roman aristocrat at the height of the Pax Romana. The Pax Romana was a time of stability and peace throughout the roman empire. There was very minimal military activity. His letters give us a view into the perspective of the roman aristocrat as well as an insight into roman society. The letters also give a perspective of the lives of roman women during this time. Roman society was a very patriarchal during the Pax Romana and women were considered much less important than men. This is apparent in his letters. There are very few accounts in Pliny s letters that go into detail about the women of these times. The letters that do include female characters are about aristocrats dominantly and give us only a biased snapshot of how they interact within roman society. The character that we have the most to go on is Culpurnia. Calpurnia is the granddaughter of Calpurnius Fabitus and wife of Pliny the Younger. In his letters he describes Calpurnia as becoming well adjusted to her role as Pliny s wife. You are a model of family devotion, and you loved your brother, matching his deep regard for you with equal affection. You love his daughter as if she was your own, and to her you re enact the fondness not only of an aunt, but also that of the father she lost (4,19). Calpurnia was everything Pliny could ask for in a wife. He extolled her intelligence, her devotion, and her expertise at looking after their home. She is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Frederick Jackson Turner Frontier Thesis Summary The American Frontier consisted of a vibrant and expansive land made for the opportunity ofAmerican settlement until the late 19th century. Unfortunately, the age of exploration of the Frontier officially ended in 1890 with the U.S Census Bureau declaring that here can hardly be said to be a frontier line. A historian, Frederick Jackson Turner, claimed that the Frontier shaped American culture and the attitude of Americans. By evaluating U.S Census Bureau statistics, he famously wrote the Frontier Thesis. Along with the Frontier Thesis, Turner contributed to the field of New History, primarily analyzing the West and Sectionalism of the United States. Consider the general competencies found in Figure 7.3 and apply these to Andra Rush, providing examples of how these competencies apply. Competency models describe the behaviors and skills managers need to exhibit if an organization is to be successful (Hughes, Ginnett, Curphy, p. 252). In many organizations, competency models can differ between the different hierarchies of managers. As a person s leadership role evolves so do the behaviors and skills he or she must possess to be an effective leader. This statement holds firm as with the case of Andra Rush. She followed through with the idea of forming a trucking company by borrowing monies to purchase trucks, accepting every job offer, answering the phones, budgeting the books, and repairing the trucks. This is also evident by the fact Rush can lead a large trucking company, but also community organizations. Both have different leadership styles which she has to properly adjust to. Another competency displayed by Rush is customer focus which is maintaining a clear focus on customer needs and demonstrating a strong desire to provide exemplary customer service; and actively seeks ways to increase customer satisfaction. With the formation of the company, Rush accepted every shipping job, even if she had to drive the trucks herself. She pays attention and exceeds customer s expectations regardless of circumstances. Such as the case of when local bridges were shutdown during September 11th attacks, Rush made a crucial shipment by renting a barge. 2. How does the Leadership Pipeline apply to Andra Rush? • 9. Amyloid Synthesis Amyloid beta (Aβ) is a short peptide contains 37 to 43 amino acids and is well known for its hypothesized role in causing pathogenesis of AD, since one of the main hallmarks of AD is the accumulation of fibrillogenic Aβ in the grey matter of the brain (14 15). Meanwhile, over 90% of AD patients have cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA) which is characterized by the deposition of Aβ in capillaries, arteries, and arterioles (16 17). CAA causes the degeneration of smooth muscle cells and leads haemorrhages (17). Aβ is generated by proteolytic processing from its precursor, the amyloid precursor protein (APP), which is a type I oriented membrane protein and its splicing variants include APP695, APP714, APP751, APP770 (18 21). The β secretase first sheds the ectodomain of APP and generates the APP carboxy terminal fragment (βCTF) (14). Then the Îł secretase cuts at the transmembrane region of βCTF and releases the Aβ into the extracellular fluids like cerebrospinal fluid or plasma (14, 24). In the anti amyloidogenic pathway Îą secretase first cuts at the middle region of Aβ so a trauncated APP CTF (ÎąCTF) is generated and after the transmembrane cut of Îł secretase, a truncated Aβ peptide is released (p3) (Figure 2; 25). • 11. Analysis Of Mark Twain s The Adventures Of Huckleberry... CHAPTER III HUMANISM IN MARK TWAINS NOVELS A study of Mark Twain s Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is an adventure in understanding changes in America itself. The book, at the center of American geography and consciousness, asks readers to reexamine definitions of civilization and freedom, right and wrong, social responsibility and inhumanity. Published in 1885, the novel recounts those pre civil war days when the controversy over slavery, with designated slave and Free states, disfigured the face of America and its view of itself as a land of the free. Both geographically and otherwise, the story is an examination of life at the center: the center of America s premier river, the Mississippi in the middle of the geographical United states, with slave states below, free states above, which is the route toward freedom and escape for Huck and Jim; the center of one of the foremost conflicts on American soil, slavery, which soon results in a civil war; the center of the coming of age of both a young man and a nation that struggle to understand redefinitions of nationhood and freedom, right and wrong; and the center of a shift from Romanticism to Realism in art and letters that would provide for a new way for Americans to express and re create themselves. The novel offers an excellent example of American picaresque fiction and meaningful use of dialect, although this dialect may be difficult reading for students for whom English is not a first language. • 13. Progeria And Eukaryotic Analysis Progeria is a rare disease that affects the nuclear envelope (lamina), and makes the nucleus unstable. It is caused by a mutation in the LMNA gene that produces an abnormal protein. This abnormal protein is called progerin, and it causes the process of premature ageing in an individual. Eukaryotic cells contain a sphere shaped nucleus that protects the genetic information (DNA) and separates it from the cytoplasm. The nucleus itself is protected by a double membrane called, the nuclear envelope. The nuclear envelope is made up of nuclear membranes, nuclear lamina, and nuclear pore complexes. The nuclear lamina is the sturdy protein that gives the nucleus its structure and shape. As well as providing structural support, the nuclear lamina is required for most nuclear activities, such as chromatin organization, DNA replication, cell cycle regulation, nuclear positioning within the cell, assembly/disassembly of the nucleus during cell division, as well as for modulating master regulatory genes and signaling pathways. This causes a huge strain for cell division; without the support that the nuclear lamina usually provides, the organization of chromatin for mitosis is disrupted and cell division is limited. The Midwest was dominated by four massive glaciers with Michigan s average glacial drift ranging from 200 to 300 feet and a thickness of 1,000 feet in some locations (2017, DNR). Michigan s glacial deposits are estimated to three hundred over the entire state (2009, Berquist). The melting allowed the liquefied water to carry the various rocks and soils in landscape deposits. As the melting increased, the weight of the glacier on the Michigan basin was decreasing. With less pressure on the basin, it began to rebound into its original shape while maintaining the integrity of the glacial deposit landforms. About fourteen thousand years ago, the Wisconsin Glacier covered the entirety of Michigan with its northernmost head at the Hudson Bay and stretching to the banks of the Ohio River as shown in Figure 1 (2017, DNR). These glacial movements were guided by the pre glacial rivers that were further carved by the massive ice sheets to carve valleys. Although drainage was occurring in the Great Lakes region during the pre glacial area, it is nearly impossible to reproduce its exact original features (2009, Berquist). According to McMahon in order to be happy there s no need to think about it. McMahan states in paragraph eleven, Those who are happy, he came to believe, who have their minds fixed on some object other than their own happiness; on the happiness of others, on the improvement of mankind, even on some art of pursuit, followed not as means, but as itself an ideal end. McMahon believes you should be a part of something bigger than yourself. This means help out others by doing something you normally wouldn t do something out of the ordinary. Helping others gives you a heart warming feeling, and many can agree on this. Lastly Mill does believe you should spend time with people that mean the most to you like loved ones, a little of our happiness is based on the people we surround ourselves with. McMahon is right about being apart of something bigger than yourself because helping others be happy makes us feel good about ourselves, and more confidence to keep pursuing it. Be yourself and always move forward, happiness doesn t come from being someone you re not. According to berns in the video Ted talk you should always move on if you can t do something, focus on what you can. When people are stuck on something they tend to give up and feel very self conscience best thing to do is walk away from the situation and do what you re best at. There are also those who contend that the minimal state is too small and cannot facilitate the distribution of resources. Therefore, such a state cannot address the differences among citizens. This argument follows that because there is an imbalance in the distribution of resources, those who do not have the resources have some limits to living good lives. However, Nozick argues that this kind of distributive justice is not fair. This is because resources are initially acquired or produced by individuals and are not distributed. The best way and most effective way is having us the students bring our own devices to school. We can learn and still have fun using our phones, tablets, laptops, and even kindles. The students of St. John Neumann Catholic School should be able to bring their own devices to school. First of all, students can read on their devices. Using ebooks we get so much more options to choose from ranges of academic and popular books. Having so many options we can read for A.R easily. Every 4 weeks the students have to get 10 or more points, and sometimes it s hard finding the right book in the school library. Also most times we can t even go to the library because it s either not open, we have class, or we have too much to do in study to be able to go. In other words, our devices let us have more varied book options and an easier access to books. Another way we can use our devices to read is using our devices to read book assignments that the teachers assign. • 26. The Pros And Cons Of Cloning Cloning A very controversial topic in the world today is cloning, some believe that it is very unethical and we should not be cloning people. Cloning researchers employ a technique called somatic cell nuclear transfer,t involves removing the nucleus from an egg and replacing it with the nucleus from a somatic cell (a regular body cell, such as a skin cell), which provides a full complement of 46 chromosomes. The egg is then stimulated and, if successful, begins dividing as a new organism at the earliest (embryonic) developmental stages. This new individual is genetically (virtually) identical to the person from whom the somatic cell was taken. It is a human clone.(Stark, Paul). The process of cloning for research is even seen as dangerous to people. When we start to clone for research, it builds a pathway for scientists and people to want to start cloning to produce children. (Stark, Paul). Most of the world feels that it extremely unethical and if we turn to cloning humans it could raise many health concerns. Yet having the majority think that cloning is very unethical, there is still a community that believes cloning can help out the world in a greater way. When you think of cloning what does your mind begin to think about? It thinks of the cloning of humans, and many people are unhappy with the fact that this may be coming soon. There are so many stories about a god or goddess falling for a mortal or nymph and then another god or goddess gets jealous or interferes with them and then the poor mortal gets cursed or gets ditched! But out of all these stories none are more tragic then the ones where Zeus cheats on his wife Hera, who then out of jealousy curses the poor women! Hera is known for being revengeful on those who interfere with her marriage to Zeus. But what she doesn t see is that most of the time the poor girl was just a victim. Unless you re Echo; she did deserve her punishment, and you will see why. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And Narcissus wouldn t have refused Echo because she would have been able to talk to him and get to know him. Echo would have been able to talk if Hera hadn t cursed her. And Hera wouldn t have cursed her if Zeus had just been faithful! In another version of this story Echo was still the beautiful nymph with an amazing voice. She lived deep in the woods and, denied the love of any mortal or god. She attracted the god, Pan, but, who she turned down like all the others. Pan was so angry he sent his shepherds to kill Echo by tearing her apart and spreading her pieces far, and wide. Gaea received the pieces and scattered them so Echo s voice, and talents, could be heard everywhere (Pontikis). Now it s a different version of the story but it s the same thing Pan messed with Echo s life, and because of that it all ended in her doom. So as I ve been saying over, and over again, if those selfish gods would just stay out of our love lives then none of this would have ever happened. The Democracy And Human Rights For as long as it has existed, the Chinese government has been power hungry, They have limited the freedom of citizens so that they can make the decisions themselves, such as not allowing citizens to vote for government officials. Instead, officials are simply appointed by others in government. Citizens want reform, protests have occurred across the country for change to a democratic system so that citizens can finally elect the people that represent them. This would give citizens more power, but as result, take some away from the government, which they do not want. The Chinese government needs to listen to their citizens and change to a democratic system to give them more freedom and make them happier. The status of democracy and human rights in China is not where it could be. Both are limited in the following ways. According to Noah Berlatsky, China s government is authoritarian and undemocratic. Leaders are for the most part appointed and not elected. Media in China are regulated, and protest against the government is strictly limited (Berlatsky). This means that the citizens of China do not have the ability to influence who is elected. The already appointed government officials decide and appoint others. Firstly comes the similarity of their jobs. The Friar and the Parson are both characters of similar social stature and are both committed to the church, one more so than the other. In all Four Orders there was none so mellow (Line 214). This quote shows that he is part of one of the four orders whom are allowed to beg for money. There was a Friar (Line 212). In fact, humankind has been at war with the disease for most of history, often at the losing end. However, the principle of immunization equalized this adversarial relationship. The concept of vaccination has been one of the most significant medical advancements in history because it has prevented the onset of deadly diseases, has eradicated previously malignant maladies, and has improved human life by removing fear of acquiring such contagious afflictions. The institution of vaccination began with smallpox. Smallpox had been a very eminent fatal disease throughout the world, an extremely serious disease from 10,000 BC. It was most likely that the smallpox started by the Egyptian merchants. It was found out that the mummified head of the Egyptian pharaoh Ramses V showed the symptoms of smallpox. ( Edward Jenner . . . ) From that time on, smallpox had spread on to Europe, Asia, and America. Speckled monster , a nickname for smallpox, had attacked, especially in Europe, where the death rate reached up to 60%. ( Edward Jenner . . . ) It had killed millions of people with no one knowing how to prevent it. The two siblings kill each other, and this makes Creon new king of Thebes. Moreover, Creon gladdens trueness above anything else, and he cannot stand disloyalty or watch at the state rules being broken mainly by a woman. • 42. The Musical Theatre Of America Musical Theatre in America Before the 20th century, people used music and dancing to tell stories, but it had nothing to do with developing musical theater. Musical theatre is a type of play that tells a story through songs, spoken dialogue, and dancing. During the 20th century, there was a lot of change going on in Musical Theatre. Musicals are different from other types of stage works such as opera because a musical would not be a musical without the music, story line, or dancing. European operetta was becoming more popular than American Musical Theatre. The two main types of opera that were being made were called ballad operas and comic operas which had romantic plots. American composers sought to come up with something new, since Musical Theatre was not very popular with the general public. There were a lot of components that helped shape musical theatre in America , but most think that it was mainly developed because of the different tastes developing, likeable styles, spirit and energy by composers in America, it was not. Although musical theaters origins are not certain, Musical theatre gradually developed using influences of ballad opera, comic opera, operetta, vaudeville, and burlesque. Change Detection Essay 3.2.4 Change Detection Change detection is the identification of variations in land cover types by observing a specified area at different times using multi temporal data sets from satellite images. Spatio temporal satellite images of a specified geographic area were processed and classified to produce thematic maps for 1984, 1995, 2006 and 2016 then the classified maps were compared and overlaid to visualize the changes on the area in the span of time. The total area covered by each class in each study year was calculated and the amount and rate of change for each land cover classes analyzed. They are algorithms that quantify specific spatial characteristics of patches, patch types or classes, entire landscape mosaics, or the spatial context of individual cells within a patch mosaic. Zonal Metrics: are spatial metrics to calculate selected numerical indices at zonal level. They are newly developed spatial metrics in ZonalMetrics python toolbox which is a new open source tool developed by Adamczyk and Tiede (2017) with a specialized functionality for calculating landscape metrics on the zone level. The source code is free and open to the community and can be customized with ArcGIS 10.2 or latest versions. In zonal metrics the study area is divided into user specified zones and statistics are computed per zones. Patches: are defined as surface areas that differ from their surroundings in nature or appearance (Laurent, 2006) and one of the basic elements that make up a landscape and building blocks of spatial metric calculation. Patches must be defined in relation to the phenomenon to be investigated. For this study patches refer to individual built up area polygons surrounded by non built up environments such as agricultural, open spaces or green areas, irrespective of their size. • 44. Sigmund Freud s Representation of Three Tall Women Essay A Deeper Understanding of Three Tall Women According to Sigmund Freud, psychoanalysis is a procedure for the investigation of mental processes which are almost inaccessible in any other way (Fodor and Gaynor 147). It becomes a deeper contrast of a person s mentality to consider the design of interplay within the urging and checking forces of the conscious and unconscious (Fodor and Gaynor 147). Freud s representation of Three Tall Women, relate the characters by the neuroses that sometimes result from the suppression of memories and desires too painful to deal with (Freud, The Dependent Relationship of the Ego). The play expresses the idea of virtue and C s hope of avoiding the fate of A, which in turn shows that there exists a strong desire to maintain a life that consists in pleasing an authoritative figure or higher power (such as God). It may be discovered, with the help of the analytical mind of Carl Jung, that the study of religious experience [can] be regarded...as the study of the fundamental, natural and therapeutic psychic process, in which the individual seeks self knowledge, self regulation, and self fulfillment (Palmer 109). Freud teaches us his idea of the ego, superego, and the id. The ego consists of the conscious thought, which is understood as the cartoon character [that] has a devil on one shoulder and an angel on the other (Freud, The Dependent Relationship of the Ego). Literally speaking, character A was faced with the battle between devil and angel, good and evil, and it is the branches of herself in B and C that such a contrast is shown. Character C is the object of the angel and represented by innocence, the character traits of a child, because she is the little one, the character with the least amount of experience in the world (Albee 39). While Freud may claim that this character represents the id in that she takes the majority of her influence from the unconscious part of her mind that says what she wants, Jung looks at the character with the idea of an archetypal self. • 45. The Role Of An Engineer Essay When talking about engineering, people would probably have pictures in their mind of engineers using machines producing parts, drawing and sketching designs, or even doing some mathematical calculations. A more general answer to what engineers actually do would be that they solve social problems through the use of machines, devices, systems, materials and processes. They are all absolutely correct. But in reality, both the job and the role of an engineer are more complicated. They do not only have to work with machines and designs. Engineers are often involved in communications and negotiations. They have to work with different people and the responsibility that they have is massive. Important decisions are made by them and they have to use their own judgement. And very often, ethical considerations are already built into the decisions they make. In order to make the best decisions, they have to be understood in the context of their role in society and, moreover, they need to develop good ethical awareness and be able to deal with the dilemmas that they have to face every day. As mentioned above, it is very important for engineers to understand their own responsibilities. In 1960, the Conference of Engineering Societies of Western Europe and the United States of America defined professional engineer as follows:1 A professional engineer is competent by virtue of his/her fundamental education and training to apply the scientific method and outlook to the analysis ...
