My Beautiful Laundrette By Stephen Frear
Stephen Frear s film, My Beautiful Laundrette portrays the struggle of intersecting sexuality,
ethnicity, class, race and power. Omar, son of a Pakistani immigrant, is attracted to Johnny, a white
English male. Their attraction and the subsequent relationship is looked down upon, both in
England and Pakistan. Omar works for his uncle who lets him take over a laundrette in London
while Johnny is initially unemployed and eventually works for Omar. Together, they make the
laundrette a successful business venture and a place where they can freely express their desire for
each other. The film seeks to highlight a progressive society in England during Margaret Thatcher s
entrepreneurship and opportunism era (Mohanram 1996). Britain... Show more content on

The accountants building is more like a watchdog and a representation of how the events that
unfold inside and around the laundrette are all part of the new liberal Britain. Nasser refers to
the laundrette as a place where Omar can use a little water to clear his brain. What was crowding
Omar s mind when he was merely a young man waiting to go to college with seemingly nothing
to bother him? The scene suggests the presence of something that oppresses Omar and the
presence of the laundrette as a refuge, a place for him to clear his brain a space where queer
bodies can express their desire. The sounds of water in the background echoes this. Water is
used to represent cleansing, life, and freedom in films (Shane Brown 2016). The sound of water
in the laundrette becomes a symbol of characters in stories handling difficult life scenarios, a
symbol of power in stories and can free characters as well as claim them (ibid). The laundrette is
equivalent to what Gopinath describes as the diaspora a space of freedom (Gopinath pg 14). In the
next scene, I m going to analyze, we see Johnny from a high angle shot, finishing the renovation
the laundrette, now called Powders. The word powders can be translated to mean fine, dry particles
produced by the grinding, crushing, or disintegration of a solid substance (Oxford Dictionary).

Research On The Methods Of Surveying
Surveys and Happiness: A study on the different techniques used to persuade individuals to
participate in survey taking
By: Zachary Bernal
University of Kansas
Abstract
Many studies have been done regarding researchers abilities to obtain information from individuals
from various methods of surveying. Drawing on the social psychological factors of persuasion and
compliance, studies have shown that if individuals receive something from the researcher (e.g.
money, conversation, advice) they are much more likely to agree to participate in the survey due
to the norms of reciprocity (Groves et al., 1992). Another key factor in determining people s
compliance with a request draws on the ideas that individuals in a ... Show more content on

Over the years I started to wonder what the most effective way was to address new customers.
Sometimes I would approach them and before I say a word they already dismiss me with an, I m
good, thanks. Making it quite clear they don t want my help or anything I m selling. So I started
to ask myself what leads to the most customer involvement and willingness to be sold to? I
finally began to notice that if the customer was simply asked how their day was going, or first
primed with casual conversation before asking if they needed any help on the sales floor, they
were much more likely to request my help or ask a question. These interactions between customers
lead to broader implications of persuasion and compliance. Compliance is defined as, Responding
favorably to an explicit request by another person. (Gilovich, et al., 2013). Persuasion is defined
as, The action of influencing someone or of being influenced to do or believe something. (Gillath,
2014). These mechanisms of persuasion and compliance could carry larger implications outside of
the retail setting. It seems as though people are much more likely to be compliant to a request and
succumb to persuasion if they are in a better mood. Therefore, if salespeople, telemarketers,
charities, and other institutions were to add a more personal experience to their target they will
increase the likelihood of that individual to be persuaded or

Chinese Philosophy From The Spring And Autumn And Warring...
Chinese philosophy originates in the Spring and Autumn and Warring States eras. This was during
the period known as Hundred Schools of Thought. Regional rulers of the Spring and Autumn period
enhanced their ability to obtain natural resources, to recruit men for their armies, and to oversee
conquered areas. (pg. 165) Researchers started to help the rulers and because of that, the rulers
began perceiving the researchers comprehension of punishment, ritual, astronomy, medicine, and
divination. There were a few distinct methods of insight that emerged in Ancient China amid this
time period. Be that as it may, there were three noteworthy methods of insight that were absolutely
critical: legalism, taoism and confucianism. Confuciuswas a researcher who served in government
positions. He realized that the legislature was doing as well as could be expected, on the other
hand, he likewise realized that war was among them. Consequently, Confucius was resolved to
locate an illuminated ruler. He had confidence in family and that family was the establishment of
a moral society. Confucius set up any of the real rules for Chinese thought and activity: regard for
the declarations of researchers, duty to expansive instruction, and preparing for all who were
exceedingly astute and willing to work. (pg. 164) Due to Confucius being solid willed, he put
forward new ethics focusing on ceremonies, obligation and dedication to family and the ideal of
good character. Confucianism was

Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress In this novel, Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress,

each character, the Old Miller, Luo and the Narrator, are telling their points of view of when Luo
and the Seamstress went to their little secret area. In Luo s point of view, he explains what
happened with the Seamstress. The relationship between the Seamstress and Luo reveals that Luo
has a manipulative attitude. Luo feels that he needs to change the Seamstress into something he
wants. Luo says, What can I say? That she s a good swimmer? Sure, she swims like a dolphin now.

Social And Economic Effects Of Bacon s Rebellion
Bacon s Rebellion and its aftermath transformed Virginia s social and economic order by
speeding along the adoption of slavery as a primary means of labor. Nathaniel Bacon rallied ex
indentured servants and poor frontiersman against the colonial government. These people were
forced to take less desirable land on the outskirts of the colony where [...] they lived under the
constant threat of potentially hostile Native Americans (Bacon s Rebellion NBC). Bacon,
frustrated with the apathy of the government to address Indian aggression, lead his band of
followers and indiscriminately attacked Native Americans. Royal Governor Sir William Berkely
refused to sanction these attacks and declared Bacon a rebel, sending 300 militiamen to drag him to
Jamestown for trial (Nash... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Indentured servants were a limited resource as they would eventually become free. The non
slaves became more intransigent and apt to resist the efforts of the ruling class s economic and
political subjugation upon them. Southern planters began to look toward the African slave trade
as a reliable source of controllable labor. The economic power of England was rising and helped
to increase the level of slave purchasing and selling. The influx of white indentured servants from
England into Virginia drastically decreased which only accelerated the adoption of slavery.
African slaves were a more easily controlled and exploited labor pool. By the 1730s, the number
of white indentured servants had dwindled to insignificance (Nash, 60). When considering the
legacy of Bacon s Rebellion upon the transformation of Virginia, and beyond, this event in history
demonstrated that poor whites and poor blacks could be united in a cause. This was a great fear of
the ruling class what would prevent the poor from uniting to fight them? This fear hastened the
transition to racial slavery (Africans in

Essay on Gender Role Development
Gender Role Development
I am a man, or maybe I m a male, no wait I am a guy, although my parents still call me a boy,
unless you ask an old person then I am a young man. Frankly, I don t know, understand, or care
what I am because most importantly I m me. My generation has numerous problems and some of
the most pressing issues involve sex and gender. It appears we have some confusion on who s what
and why, and I can see why this confusion exists we have some males wearing women s apparel
and some females who are only females because of their lack of a penis.

less appealing ones. My parents weren t very stereotypical in their gender roles. My dad was the
emotional one he was much more apt to crying and also getting angry. My mother was the more
logical parent. She also was the leader of the house. She pretty well told my dad who, what,
where, when, and how. My mother also takes care of the finances, although my dad is the major
breadwinner. My dad was also the non confrontational parent. I feel I am a good blend of my
parents. I seemed to have inherited and learned most of their good traits without taking on their bad
ones.
In school I was the a typical boy. I was around a lot of boys when I was young mainly due to
participation in sports. When I got out of the athletic crowd I got into the artsy crowd. Through
my high school years due to the crowd of girls and non Neanderthal guys I hang around I was
wrote off as a homosexual by people who didn t know me. In my school any guy who participated
in speech and drama was pretty much thought of as queer. Unfortunately what the guys who wrote
me off as homosexual failed to see was that being in drama meant spending time around numerous
beautiful talented young girls, and not only that the boy to girl ratio at speech tournaments was
about 3 to 1 favoring the girls, which turned out to be pretty good odds even for a fat kid.

Ethical Dilemm Is It Ethical For The Defendant Of Driving...
Ethical dilemma: Is it ethical for the defendant to be convicted of driving under the influence (DUI)

Professional audience for this paper: lawyers related to DUI cases and doctors who are sued for
prescribing methadone According to the recent analysis of Milliman Inc., 16% of car accidents
involved at least one prescription drug, and conjointly certain prescription drugs have drawn
related professional s attention because of their side effects, such as drowsiness, dizziness, and
blurred vision. In particular, as one of the most popular opioids that can lead someone into an
impaired state, methadone has frequently been raised as a controversial issue regarding DUI cases.
For example, in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most essential reason of methadone being such a controversy is that methadone has potential
side effects, such as drowsiness, dizziness, or blurred vision , and thus can put someone under the
danger of an automobile accident. It is true that the defendant may be convicted of DUI by
methadone due to his inconsistent driving, but the conviction depends on a two part test by the
prosecution. First, the blood test conducted at a state approved and certified lab must show
appropriate threshold levels of the drug in the defendant s system (Goodnough 1). Secondly, the
police and the prosecution must prove that the driver who tests positive for the medication was
impaired to the point that he or she was incapable of safe driving (Goodnough 1). However, both of
these tests are subjective measurements of one s level of impairment, and therefore, cannot avoid
having some uncertainties.
During the blood test, for example, the presence of clots in the blood sample can artificially
increase the drug concentration on the report since blood is a heterogeneous mixture, which often
forms clots. The possibility of blood clotting cannot be ignored because it occurs very frequently
for many reasons, such as certain

Explain And Describe The Fad Diets And The Cabbage Soup Diet
1. Explain and Describe the Fad Diets .
A fad diet is any diet that encourages short term change in eating behaviour and promises quick
dramatic weight loss results without a scientific basis. They get popular very quickly but fall out
of favour very soon as well because they cannot be sustained in long term and they are usually not
very healthy, leading to many serious health problems. Generally, all fad dietsshare the same
characteristics, such as:
a)promise a quick fix (more than 5 or more pounds weight loss per week)
b)promise a weight loss without giving up fatty foods or exercise on a regular basis
c)promotes magic foods or combinations of foods
d)list out good and bad foods
e)implies that food can change body chemistry
f)eliminate or severely restrict certain food groups or nutrients
g)had rigid rules that focus on weight loss
h)makes claims based on single study or testimonials only

food intake decreases resulting in a reduced calorie diet. Moreover, the food preparation also

he would bleed uncontrollably and it could not be stopped. Rasputin treated Alexis as if he were his
nanny, reading him stories, curing his headaches, but most importantly, controlling his bleeding. It
was said that all that Rasputin had to do was merely tell him that it will stop and somehow,
without any explanation for the occurrence, the bleeding would stop. However Rasputin managed
to stop Alexis suffering, the truth of the matter was that he gained Nicholas and Alexandra s
undivided support and it gave him immense power. Czar Nicholas listened to his wife so
Rasputin began to tell Alexandra what is to happen in the country. She in turn listened to him and
told her husband everything. Although Rasputin was nearly an uneducated man, he found a seat
in the Duma and was elected in 1912. He became an important political figure. In1913, the Czar
pushed towards rigid antagonism toward the Duma, Rasputin and the Czarina urged him to
dissolve it altogether or at least take away all of its real power. 1913 was also the 300th
anniversary of the Romanov Dynasty and the importance of the Duma was intentionally slighted.

Example Of A Political Cartoon
c. In this political cartoon, there is an American citizen depicted in both 2008 and 2016

Immobilized Metal Affinity Chromatography
Proteins with his tags are purified using IMAC, immobilized metal affinity chromatography. The
protein product interacts with a metal that is reversibly bound to an immobilized chelating group.
The immobolized chelating group acts as a Lewis base (electron pair donor) to which the Lewis
acid (electron pair acceptor) metal ion is coordinated. The support to which the metal ion binds is
called a ligand. When an electron donor group is replaced by another, the action is referred to as
ligand exchange. The donor atoms involved in this exchange are the electronegative nitrogen,
sulfur, or oxygen. These atoms scavenge for sources of electrons. The structure formed when the
metal ions are added to form the chelate result in free coordination... Show more content on

In this paper I will refer to the immobilized Lewis base as the ligand. The combination of the
metal ion with the ligand will be referred to as the affinity ligand. IMAC can be performed
employing ion exchange resins as the ligand, but in the separation of proteins only chelating
groups have been used to fix the metal ion to the support. Schmuckler compared the binding
energy of transition metal cations with ordinary cation exchangers and with chelating groups. He
found the chelating groups binding energy to be 15 to 25 kcal/mol whereas the ordinary ion
exchangers have a binding energy of 2 to 3 kcal/mol. (Nes, 1999) This characteristic has led to
chelating groups as the ligand of choice in IMAC. The chelating groups used in IMAC are
multidentate chelating compounds providing the strength of the complex formed by the protein,
metal ion and chelating group. Free coordination sites in the metal ion must be present in the
structure formed after the metal ion is chelated by the chelating group to allow for the adsorption
or binding of solvent molecules or proteins. (Sulkowski, 1985) Differences in the number of free
coordination sites plays a part in the selectivity of chelating substances for a target protein.
Commonly used metal chelating substances include iminodiacetic acid (IDA) and nitriloacetic

My Hybrid Classroom Management Plan
My hybrid classroom management plan that combines the Canter and Canter Assertive discipline
style and Dreikur s Democratic Teaching and Management procedures allows me to incorporate
the students opinions and ideas into the classroom rules and procedures. This allows for a sense
of community and shared responsibility between both myself and the students to insure that the
rules are being met. By allowing the student to have a say in how the classroom will run day to
day makes them feel like they have a place and a value in the classroom. It is also important that I
foster a sense of fairness by upholding the agreed upon rules without any bias so that the student
know what to expect when rules and procedures are either followed or not. This helps the students
feel supported in the classroom as well as nurtures a safe and inclusive learningenvironment.
Throughout the last two field experiences my favorite part has been getting to know each of the
students in the classrooms. By the end of the semester it became very hard to leave them because I
had gotten attached and wantto continue to watch them grow. I have a feeling that having my

Filipino Culture In The Philippines
The Filipino Culture
Carla Cravey, Lindsay Hill, Jeanette Gass
Carl Albert State College
The Filipino Culture
Filipinos are the second largest Asian group in the United States. In the past data has been hard to
obtain about Filipino Americans, primarily because of inconsistences in coding race and ethnicity
in research projects. Demographics of Filipino Americans did not start being properly recorded until
the early twentieth century, when the Filipino Islands became part of the United States territory.
Even with the limited data, they have gathered enough information on the Filipino culture. Filipino
American beliefs differ drastically from that of Americans, such as their culture, health rituals and
religious practices that may make healthcare more difficult (Dela Cruz, 2010).
Studies of the Filipino American health practices show that Filipinos who reside in a rural area are
more knowledgeable in home remedies, super natural ailments, traditional healing techniques,
where those from urban areas rely more on Western Medicine and over the counter drugs. In both
settings, indigenous folk and western medicine is used simultaneously. A popular self medication
among these groups is Chinese hot/cold application system (Pasma), and Chinese oils which
sometimes perceived as a remedy to all ailments such as headaches, dizziness, relaxing, or the
common cold. If home remedies do not work, many seek a local healer who uses treatments which
includes roots and herbs.

The debt crisis transformed the development project into a globalization project. In 1997 Asian
financial crisis, exposed Indonesian military regime in social rebellion against cronyism and
neoliberal austerity, called IMF policies into question. During this crisis the IMF had worsened
the finical crisis because of speculator fear. (Mc Michael 282). In 1997 Asian financial crisis had
the government control half of their industrial assets, and invest in infrastructure. With this the
government was not capable of meeting a number of demands from private economic sector. The
free market economy was opposed to state move to increase the profit of the free market
economy and the government took this step because it was being pressurized by people. The
market induced crisis in Argentina reveled the legitimacy crisis of the globalization project at the
same time it exposed ambiguities of sovereignty (Mc Micheal118). With this the market induced
financial crisis, matched a disturbing democracy and by a regime that surrounded the sovereignty

Camp Glen Arden Ethnography Analysis
Summer camp is a tradition that the women in my family have participated in since my mom
was a little girl. In the mountains of North Carolina lies a very special place to me, my mom and
my little sister. This place is called Camp Glen Arden and it is my home away from home. There
are many special traditions within Camp Glen Arden, so that is why I chose it to be the topic of
my ethnography. To start, for the nine years I ve attended camp there hasn t been any change,
maybe the food but that s it. Since I m on the topic of food, every camper and staff member wears
navy collared shirts and navy shorts to dinner. The collared shirts are worn so that we can wearour
ties that represent what clan were in. There are two clans, the red clan and the blue clan. The first
year of camp is when you are assigned your clan, and if you have a relative that has already... Show

This tradition has gone on since camp was founded in 1951. Some examples of these
competitions are; a horseshow, basketball game, soccer game, the giant relay and 4th of July
relay races. Each time a clan wins one of the events they get points. At the end of camp, the
winner is announced when the camp director unrolls a banner with the colors of the clan who
won. My camp has a special way of demonstrating reciprocity. We celebrate Christmas in July by
drawing names out of a bowl that includes anyone that is part of camp, including the directors and
kitchen staff. Once you get the name, you make them a very special and personal gift to give to
them Christmas morning . The type of reciprocity demonstrated is generalized because once the
gift is given, the giver doesn t expect anything back except for a hug and a thank you. These
moments are so full of kindness and are really great to watch because they demonstrate the caring
mentality that everyone at camp

Christian Persecution From Early Civilizations
Persecution is a serious issue that throughout history has shown to be misinterpreted and
sometimes even taken out of context. Defined by the Merriam Webster dictionary as the act or
practice of persecuting those who differ in origin, religion or social outlook/ the condition of being
persecuted, harassed or annoyed. Other sources define it as hostility and even ill treatment towards
these groups. My goal with this paper is to focus specifically on Christian persecution from early
civilizations (more specifically within the Roman Empire) and then fast forwarding to persecution
within the world today. For modern persecution I ll be focusing on the RSS () which is ..... in
India. If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and
of God rests on you. (1 Peter 4:14)
When people often reflect back on persecution in the early church, the first place that the mind
goes is to the region that the early church started spreading through to begin with. The Roman
Empire, where we see many of our first missionaries emerge during Christ s life and after his
death. For persecution to happen there must be a green light or go ahead from someone whom
holds authority, even if they personally are indifferent about the issue they must be okay with
others persecuting for it to actually take place. Throughout the history of the Roman Empire there
were several rulers that became labeled as persecutors (whether they were the ones killing with their

The Theory Of Evolution And Adaptation
There are three major refutations against the design argument, first she designs argument is faulted
for its weak analogy between the natural objects and the objects that that is known to have a creator
such as buildings. This is the equivalent of comparing apples to oranges. For the second refutation
the design argumentclaims that everything has a perfect design, this simply isn t the case. For
example, we can examine the issues of starvation within the United States, although the world is
structured to perfectly provide food for humans, there still people starving because of imperfect
circumstances such as the inability to transport food to those who can`t receive it themselves
(Tombs 7). The strongest and most accepted argument against the design argument is the theory of
evolution and adaptation. Those who support the theory of evolution and adaptation credits the
perfect design of the aspects to those two concepts. Artic Fish are an example of this adaption, they
have developed a protein in their blood that prevent their blood from freezing which allows them
continue their metabolic functions (Lloyd 2). The finally argument against the design theory states
that even if the premise of the argument is true, its doesn t necessarily confirm the existenceof God.
The third argument of the existence of Godis the ontological argument. Unlike the cosmological and
the design arguments the ontological argument does not attempt to seek evidence with in our

International Organizations And The United Nations
International organizations create agreements by considering all member states and giving each
member state a voice. Constitutional order has three main parts: it has to be binding, it has to be a
shared agreement, and there are constrains on every member. Contemporary international
organizations reflect a constitutional order because the agreements they make are mutual and
followed by all members.
The United Nations is a global organization that works to help governments solve problems by
finding agreements. It was founded in 1945 on the idea of promoting peace and human rights.
There are 193 member states of the United Nations today that all help to work towards the
common goal of eliminating issues of humanity. The UN makes decisions through the General
Assembly, Security Council, Economic and Social Council, and more. The General Assembly is
the only UN body that represents all member states. Each year a general debate is held where
questions on security, peace, admission of new members, etc. are discussed to come to a solution
or agreement. More complex situations such as questions on, peace and security, admission of new
members and budget specificities must be a two thirds majority vote to pass, but simpler questions
pass by simple majority. The UN gives each member state a vote because of the universal
representation that the General Assembly provides. Therefore, the topics voted on are a shared
agreement as each of the member states understands that

Blockbuster Strategic Management
The Failure of Strategic Management in Preventing the Closure of Blockbuster Stores
Abstract o Strategic management ensures an organization s survival by eliminating competition and
maximizing organizational security and wealth. Not only did Blockbuster fail to implement
effective strategic management techniques, but it also caved under the use of these same tactics by
Redbox to eliminate the organization. This paper will examine Blockbuster s initial hierarchical
structure and how this organizational structure eventually aided the deterioration of Blockbuster s
sales. It will also address the gradual loss of Blockbuster s connection with their customers and
methods by which it could have been avoided. Finally, this paper will consider the ... Show more

Blockbuster s plan was to aggressively expand by opening new stores worldwide every day
(Bhide, 1996). However, real strategic change requires not merely rearranging the established
categories, but inventing new ones (Mintzberg, 1994).
Blockbuster failed to identify and embrace the advances in technology that resulted in a new,
cost effective method of delivering movies.
Blockbuster failed to build on Redbox s innovation and recapture the DVD delivery market.
Solutions o Blockbuster should have listened to the requests of their consumers to alter their rental
policies, thus avoiding the need for customers to defect to Redbox to receive their desired level of
convenience. o Additionally, Blockbuster would have been able to maintain the market had they
changed their methods of delivery to match the shift to digital streaming and shorter rental periods.
o Finally, had Blockbuster moved sooner to operate through kiosks as well as physical stores, they
would have been able to develop more kiosks in convenient locations and increase revenues.

Sports And Sports For Constructive Alternatives
This March, the Center for Constructive Alternatives series dealt with the topic of Sport and
Character. In today s age, sport and sporting events have become pinnacles of American
entertainment, money, and paparazzi. One is inundated with constant updates regarding football
scores, feuds between athletes, and controversy over refereeing. With sportbeing such a focus in
media and society, it often seems that sport and character are incompatible. Too often one sees an
athlete get caught using illegal performance enhancing drugs, having an affair, or lying and
cheating. Sport appears to be just like any other secular and commercial entertainment: decadent,
impaired, and ultimately characterless. This month s Center for Constructive... Show more content

Novak then criticized the current news and sports media of today. Upset at how the media were
currently portraying sports, he derided the journalists as amateur social scientists. Instead of trying
to pigeon hole sports into some social science or social experiment , sport should be seen as rituals
concerning human survival on this planet: liturgical enactments of animal perfection and the
struggles of the human spirit to prevail. As Mr. Novak showcased throughout his lecture, sport
captures the struggle of man throughout history. This struggle is personified through the linebacker
tackling the halfback, the pitcher recomposing himself after giving up a run, or a runner shaking off
cramping as she attempts to complete the marathon. Sports are the human experience.
Mr. Schilling s talk set a tone unlike any other. That night, he presented a striking case for why

he has come to learn that you can only gain wisdom through experiences. The experiences through
sport that Mr. Schilling went through ultimately lead to the formation of the man that he is today.
Sport also provides example of and experience with good leadership. Mr. Schilling talked about

Sickle Cell Anemia
This paper outlines the etiology of sickle cell anemia and the nutrition considerations that is
needed to maintain this disease. It also provides a five day menu plan that will greatly provide
nutrition needs to prevent having a sickle cell crisis.
Etiology
Sickle cell anemia (SCA) is an autosomal recessive inherited disease that affects the red blood
cells. A person must receive a sickle gene from each parent to have the disease. If a person only
receives one gene from either parent, they will have the sickle cell trait.
Normal red blood cells are flexible and round and last up to four months. Sickle red blood cells are

These foods should be avoided because of the effects they cause on the body which can lead to a
sickle cell crisis. Alcohol should be avoided in patients with sickle cell anemia because it can
lead to dehydration. Alcohol is a diuretic. This means that it causes your body to start peeing a
lot. Not only are you losing water and fluids out that way, alcohol decrease the secretion of Anti
diuretic hormone (ADH), which means that your body is unable to regulate how much water
you are losing through urination. Normally ADH kicks in and stops your kidneys from making
more urine, but with the suppression of ADH by alcohol, there are no level this process out.
Caffeine should also be avoided in SCA patients. It is also a diuretic. Caffeine raises the amount
of acid in your stomach and may cause heartburn. That s why it s not a great thirst quencher.
Caffeine is absorbed from your stomach. It reaches its highest levels in your bloodstream within
an hour. Caffeine can make your blood pressure go up for a short time. If you have irregular heart

My Social Life Over My Academic Life
While growing up, doing well in school always came naturally to me. I took every Advanced
Placement class my high school offered and still graduated with a 3.85 GPA. Unfortunately, after
high school, I learned that my methods in high school no longer worked as well in college. In
2007, I enrolled at Augustana Collegein Sioux Falls, SD. Augustana is a small, private university,
and I learned plenty of academic, as well as life, lessons while attending. My grades at Augustana
dropped slightly at first compared to what they were in high school. I finally realized that studying
would be necessary; however I allowed myself to fall into the same trap as many other new
students, and I chose to prioritize my social life over my academic life. After five semesters at
Augustana, I realized two things. First of all, I decided I would need to fix my priorities, and,
second, I figured out how expensive that private school actually was. Plagued by the idea that I
had already ruined my life with my decision thus far, my thoughts careened out of control.
Immediately following the winter semester of 2009, I transferred to Minnesota State University in
Mankato, MN. I had hoped a new start would help, but as time went on, the thoughts worsened
(with additional causes supplementing the previous reasons). Alcohol became more than just a
social lubricant. Though alcohol kept me going for a long time, my grades suffered. During this
time I proposed to my wife, who would have been

Essay On If Life Exist On Other Planets
Since the beginning of time, humans have looked out into space and wondered, are we are alone?
This curiosity about our own place in the universe has inspired many ideas and stories that attempt
to explain how life could exist on other planets. Scientists at NASA have been discovering
evidence that suggests it may be possible for life to exist on another planetwithin our own solar
system. I have always been interested in the mysteries of the universe, and never pass up an
opportunity to learn more about it. One current theory for the possibility life on other planets

Now the thickest ice on earth ever recorded is a little over 4 km thick and is located in Antarctica.
To give you some perspective, 10 kilometers is about from Citrus College to the 10 freeway, and
that s just the minimum thickness, astronomers don t know for sure yet how deep the ice actually
is. But how could liquid water exist on a planet so far from the sun?
You might be asking yourself, why isn t the moon solid ice, similar to the former planet Pluto?
Even though Europa is much further from the sun than Earth, its inner ocean is believed to have
warm water, at least warm enough to be liquid. It gets much of its heat due to Jupiter s gravity,
pulling the oceans as it makes its orbit and creates friction with the ice and the salt water ocean
underneath. This effect is similar to the tides here on Earth. Europa s liquid ocean is estimated
to contain about twice the amount of liquid water than all of Earth s oceans. Most of Earth s
oceans still remain unexplored, and the life that exists there, undiscovered. Imagine what might
exist under an ocean twice that size. Scientists suspect Europa s ocean may have enough oxygen
to be able to support life, however, according to NASA in an article published by phys.org, a

Theoretical Reflection On The Gospel Of Mark
For our first theoretical reflection we were assigned to read the gospel of Mark. Taking on this
reading requires an opened mindset and concentration. Reading this passage was hard for me
because when I am in church listening to the gospel readings, I do admit to lack interest. I read
the gospel of Mark to myself first because it takes time for me to analyze and process the event that
occurs in the reading. After reading the gospelto myself I listened to the audio reading. Listening
to the audio version of the gospel helped me find a deeper meaning to the reading. This allowed
me to be part of the reading as if I am there during that time. While I was looking over the reading
there were many factors that went into understanding the reading. I reread certain parts because
I did not understand what was occurring during a certain event. If I had no knowledge of the
gospel and what was happening, then reading this would have been a lot tougher on me. Since I
somewhat know the broad stories of the gospel from growing up and attending mass on
Sundays, it help me have a background going into the reading. There are a lot of small details
about which the events occurred and how people felt back in Jesus s time. The ability for
someone to retell the story of Jesus s life is extraordinary. Following the gospel help me get a
better understanding of what went on during this time and how people have evolved throughout the
years. The story being told of Jesus s life through the Bible is

normally wouldn t think to analyze in a certain way and opens a whole new spectrum on
literature. In the TIme of the Butterflies by Julia Alvarez connects with the idea and principles of

Theme Of Spirit In Lucille Clifton s There Is A Girl Inside
Lucille Clifton s There is a girl inside , teaches the reader to never let old age influence one s spirit
and portrays this by using Clifton s own spirit as an example.
Clifton first introduces her message by representing her childhood spirit as a girl inside of her own
body. The narrator then shows the little girls determination to not be changed by age. Clifton s
first few lines of the poem starts with a description of the girl that lives inside her. Clifton relates
the girl inside of her to a wolf to emphasize the girl s energetic and strong characteristic. This is
important to the poem because it displays that Clifton s spirit is still lively and active, regarding
her age. In the next few lines, the narrator says, She will not walk away/ and leave these bones
/ to and old woman (ln. 3 5). This quote implies that Clifton s spirit (the girl) is determined to
maintain young and lively while Cliftons physical body does not. This quote is important because
it shows that a strong spirit is needed to not be internally influenced by age. Cliftons inner self is
fighting against her physical self, which contributes towards Cliftons advice to never let age take
over spirit.
Furthermore, Clifton explains that the girl inside of her is special and unique to emphasize that
Clifton s spirit has not changed. Making the reader understand that Clifton s spirit is special and
unique is important because it emphasizes that the girl is different from her aging body. The
narrator says, She is a green tree/in a forest of kindling (ln. 6 7) to portray the little girls
uniqueness. A green tree in a forest of kindling uses irony to emphasize the little girls
uniqueness. This is ironic because it would be against people s expectations to find a tree in a
forest of small kindling. The speaker adds, She is a green girl/in a used poet (ln. 8 9). Clifton
organized this stanza to make the first two lines be reflective of the last two lines in the stanza.
This quote is related to the previous two lines in the poem and implies what being a green girl in
a used poet means. Being a green girl in a used poet means that Clifton s spirit is what stands out
about her, and Clifton s body is just the body of a poet.
Clifton furthers her

Trade Association). The purpose of this paper is to provide details that will assist a US company
with being successful in conducting business in Saudi Arabia.
The Five Dimensions of Culture There are five Dimensions of Culture that Hofstede mentions in
International Business, The Challenge of Global Competition. These include: Individualism
collectivism, power distance, uncertainty avoidance, masculinity femininity and long term
orientation/Confucian dynamism. Understanding these dimensions will assist a U.S. ... Show more

It is important that an American trying to do business in Saudi Arabia understand the hierarchy so
they don t offend anybody. Uncertainty Avoidance describes a society s comfort with uncertainty
(Ball 100). The Saudi Arabian culture prefers to avoid uncertainty, meaning they feel the need to
have strict laws and rules, and expect to have clear procedures to maintain the status quo. (Ball
100). An American trying to do business in Saudi Arabia will need to remember that change is not
welcomed so innovation may be resisted (The Hofstede Center). Masculinity femininity dimension
describes the gap between the roles of men and women in the culture (Ball 100). Saudi Arabia is a
masculine society meaning that both men are typically more assertive and competitive. Although
there aren t as many women working in Saudi Arabia, the women that do work are considered to be
assertive and competitive, just like their male counterparts. An American would need to keep this in
mind in regards to management because the culture expects management to be decisive and
assertive (The Hofstede Center). Long term orientation/Confucian dynamism is explained as the
level to which people in the culture will persevere to overcome obstacles they cannot overcome
with will or strength (Ball 101). The culture of Saudi Arabia a short term oriented society. This
means that they

Theme Of Angela s Ashes And The Street
Theme is the hidden morals within a piece of literature that the author is trying to get readers to
understand. In both Angela s Ashes and The Street, we can distinguish a similar theme. One similar
theme in both stories is struggling to get through life s complications. After reading the two
different excerpts, we can use character, events, and the setting to further our understanding.
In Angela s Ashes, the theme of struggling to get through life s obstacles is shown using
character. In paragraph 4, McCourt writes, You can look in people s windows and see how cozy
it is in their kitchens with fires glowing or ranges black and hot everything bright in the electric
light cups and saucers on the table with plates of sliced bread pounds of butter jars of jam smells of
fried eggs... the mother crisp and clean in her apron everyone washed and the Sacred Heart of
Jesus looking down on them from the wall suffering and sad but still happy with all that food and
light and good Catholics at their breakfast. This quote shows, that the protagonist has been peering
into the houses of the rich and realizes that the rich has everything they want and more. This theme
shows that the main character is jealous of the rich lifestyle because they have more struggles than
the rich do. In addition, this theme is also presented using events. In paragraph 5, In a second I
have two bottles of lemonade up under my jersey and i saunter away trying to look innocent,
(McCourt). This quote is

Nicole s Behavior In The Classroom
I enjoyed reading all of the cases that we were allowed to choose from. I found this story to be an
example of the role of us as educators. We are often detectives that must find solutions with our
students to help them learn, grow, and mature. I think that Ms. Johnson s idea to keep Nicole
inside to complete her work while recess was going on was an appropriate punishment for Nicole.
Although this punishment was not putting the disruptive behavior to a halt, it ultimately led to the
reason behind this behavior. I believe that is Ms. Johnson did not do a little more investigating into
the reasons behind Nicole s behavior that would have been a horrible injustice to not just Nicole,
but the entire class. As the case study progressed, we... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Johnson and Nicole had a talk about why she chose not to share the amount of times that Nicole
was off task. Here Nicole realized that the reason that she has missed a portion of her recess for
several years was not because she was not smart, but because she was too distracted and off task
due to talking. Ms. Johnson then took this opportunity to provide tools for Nicole to use that
would help remind her to remain on task and talk less in class. I really enjoyed this case study.
Ms. Johnson handled the punishments of Nicole in the ideal manner. Sitting out for part or all of
her recess time was not too harsh, nor was it not harsh enough. After different placements within
the classroom did not work, Ms. Johnson realized she needed to do more to figure out the
problem. I like how Ms. Johnson was not going to give up, and with her ideas, she eventually
solved the problem, which helped Nicole tremendously in the long

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Electronic Records
2.1.2 The disadvantages of electronic records An electronic records is the enhancement of the
records. The contents have the values such as fiscal value, historical value, vital value and also

an electronic is more easy to make any changes compared to the paper based. Besides, the system

thing that needs to be in the list is the plan. Every management needs to have a plan. It is for the
guides for the best practices of documents organization and management, formatting and long term

But, through many phases changes, the valuable records still can be protected with the awareness

individuals and organization very well, so that the contents are not damaged. The Director General

person that can access the records are only the one that get an authorization from the Director

Canadian Constitution Act of 1982
I found myself thinking sociologically when I realized that equality in Canada is less practiced as
what the Canadian Constitution Act of 1982 claims. In this constitution, it is stated that every
individual should be treated equally regardless of their race, ethnicity, colour, religion, sex, age, and
any disability; however, in reality, individuals experience inequality in the form of racism
throughout the Canadian society. For instance, a few months ago, a black male was asked to leave
the St. Laurent shopping centre by the mall securities as the position of his pants were viewed as
not family friendly but this type of fashion is normal for teenagers who are influenced by the hip
hop culture. As the man did not want to cause any trouble,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Moreover, in 1940s, Canadian born, black students were not admitted in Canadian nursing schools
because of the idea that Canadian hospitals would not hire them. Thus, the author concludes that
Black nurses face racism today because of the historical exclusion and segmentation in the labour
market.
The authors, Gillian Creese and Tania Das Gupta, both demonstrate that equality is less pronounced
than the Canadian Constitution Act of 1982 states. Although these two articles were written on
different time periods in history, both articles display racism in the Canadian society, specifically
at a workplace. Creese focuses on the experiences of Chinese workers whereas Gupta investigates
the experiences of Black nurses. However, Creese s description of racism is more extreme than
Gupta s, which could indicate that there has been an improvement in equality in Canada.
Regardless, these articles prove that there is a difference between the promise made by the
constitution and reality.
Canada is known as a multicultural nation and is praise internationally for its immigration policy.
However, there has been an issue of racial profiling in the criminal justice system. The article The
Usual Suspects: Police Stop and Search Practices in Canada by Scot Wortley and Akwasi Owusu
Bempah, explores the existence of racial profiling. The authors argue that racial discrimination has
existed throughout the Canadian society,

Correlation Between Youth Sports Athletes And Leadership...
A Look at Correlation Between Youth Sports Athletes and Leadership Concepts in the
Workforce By Robert Graves For a majority of my life, I ve been involved in sports. I can even
remember when I played on my first team, the time my father first enrolled me on my first T
ball league. There are pictures in our family photo album of me holding a basketball at an age
even younger than when I played in the T ball league, shooting it into a Mattel basketball hoop.
Throughout the years, I ve played on various sports teams from little league baseball, YMCA
basketball, high school football, and even a high status volleyball team during my time in the
Marine Corps. I love sports and the team concept; in fact, a majority of my friends played in some
type of league, or were former teammates of my own. I ve noticed throughout the years, as I look
back on my life, that I had always been some sort of captain or role model, and even in the jobs I
held I had always been promoted faster than my peers, and have always been given great
recognition and appraisal. I have always been told I was a good leader, and people came to me
willingly to seek assistance and advice. Still to this day, as a chief in my shop, and as a family
friend, people turn to me for life coaching. I see this trend as well with some of my former
teammates, and even some former High School and College athletes that enlisted in the services.
Seeing this trend I began to wonder if there is a correlation between

  • 2. My Beautiful Laundrette By Stephen Frear Stephen Frear s film, My Beautiful Laundrette portrays the struggle of intersecting sexuality, ethnicity, class, race and power. Omar, son of a Pakistani immigrant, is attracted to Johnny, a white English male. Their attraction and the subsequent relationship is looked down upon, both in England and Pakistan. Omar works for his uncle who lets him take over a laundrette in London while Johnny is initially unemployed and eventually works for Omar. Together, they make the laundrette a successful business venture and a place where they can freely express their desire for each other. The film seeks to highlight a progressive society in England during Margaret Thatcher s entrepreneurship and opportunism era (Mohanram 1996). Britain... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The accountants building is more like a watchdog and a representation of how the events that unfold inside and around the laundrette are all part of the new liberal Britain. Nasser refers to the laundrette as a place where Omar can use a little water to clear his brain. What was crowding Omar s mind when he was merely a young man waiting to go to college with seemingly nothing to bother him? The scene suggests the presence of something that oppresses Omar and the presence of the laundrette as a refuge, a place for him to clear his brain a space where queer bodies can express their desire. The sounds of water in the background echoes this. Water is used to represent cleansing, life, and freedom in films (Shane Brown 2016). The sound of water in the laundrette becomes a symbol of characters in stories handling difficult life scenarios, a symbol of power in stories and can free characters as well as claim them (ibid). The laundrette is equivalent to what Gopinath describes as the diaspora a space of freedom (Gopinath pg 14). In the next scene, I m going to analyze, we see Johnny from a high angle shot, finishing the renovation the laundrette, now called Powders. The word powders can be translated to mean fine, dry particles produced by the grinding, crushing, or disintegration of a solid substance (Oxford Dictionary). Johnny and Omar can ... • 3. Research On The Methods Of Surveying Surveys and Happiness: A study on the different techniques used to persuade individuals to participate in survey taking By: Zachary Bernal University of Kansas Abstract Many studies have been done regarding researchers abilities to obtain information from individuals from various methods of surveying. Drawing on the social psychological factors of persuasion and compliance, studies have shown that if individuals receive something from the researcher (e.g. money, conversation, advice) they are much more likely to agree to participate in the survey due to the norms of reciprocity (Groves et al., 1992). Another key factor in determining people s compliance with a request draws on the ideas that individuals in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Over the years I started to wonder what the most effective way was to address new customers. Sometimes I would approach them and before I say a word they already dismiss me with an, I m good, thanks. Making it quite clear they don t want my help or anything I m selling. So I started to ask myself what leads to the most customer involvement and willingness to be sold to? I finally began to notice that if the customer was simply asked how their day was going, or first primed with casual conversation before asking if they needed any help on the sales floor, they were much more likely to request my help or ask a question. These interactions between customers lead to broader implications of persuasion and compliance. Compliance is defined as, Responding favorably to an explicit request by another person. (Gilovich, et al., 2013). Persuasion is defined as, The action of influencing someone or of being influenced to do or believe something. (Gillath, 2014). These mechanisms of persuasion and compliance could carry larger implications outside of the retail setting. It seems as though people are much more likely to be compliant to a request and succumb to persuasion if they are in a better mood. Therefore, if salespeople, telemarketers, charities, and other institutions were to add a more personal experience to their target they will increase the likelihood of that individual to be persuaded or ... • 4. Chinese Philosophy From The Spring And Autumn And Warring... Chinese philosophy originates in the Spring and Autumn and Warring States eras. This was during the period known as Hundred Schools of Thought. Regional rulers of the Spring and Autumn period enhanced their ability to obtain natural resources, to recruit men for their armies, and to oversee conquered areas. (pg. 165) Researchers started to help the rulers and because of that, the rulers began perceiving the researchers comprehension of punishment, ritual, astronomy, medicine, and divination. There were a few distinct methods of insight that emerged in Ancient China amid this time period. Be that as it may, there were three noteworthy methods of insight that were absolutely critical: legalism, taoism and confucianism. Confuciuswas a researcher who served in government positions. He realized that the legislature was doing as well as could be expected, on the other hand, he likewise realized that war was among them. Consequently, Confucius was resolved to locate an illuminated ruler. He had confidence in family and that family was the establishment of a moral society. Confucius set up any of the real rules for Chinese thought and activity: regard for the declarations of researchers, duty to expansive instruction, and preparing for all who were exceedingly astute and willing to work. (pg. 164) Due to Confucius being solid willed, he put forward new ethics focusing on ceremonies, obligation and dedication to family and the ideal of good character. Confucianism was ... Social And Economic Effects Of Bacon s Rebellion Bacon s Rebellion and its aftermath transformed Virginia s social and economic order by speeding along the adoption of slavery as a primary means of labor. Nathaniel Bacon rallied ex indentured servants and poor frontiersman against the colonial government. These people were forced to take less desirable land on the outskirts of the colony where [...] they lived under the constant threat of potentially hostile Native Americans (Bacon s Rebellion NBC). Bacon, frustrated with the apathy of the government to address Indian aggression, lead his band of followers and indiscriminately attacked Native Americans. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Indentured servants were a limited resource as they would eventually become free. The non slaves became more intransigent and apt to resist the efforts of the ruling class s economic and political subjugation upon them. Southern planters began to look toward the African slave trade as a reliable source of controllable labor. The economic power of England was rising and helped to increase the level of slave purchasing and selling. The influx of white indentured servants from England into Virginia drastically decreased which only accelerated the adoption of slavery. African slaves were a more easily controlled and exploited labor pool. By the 1730s, the number of white indentured servants had dwindled to insignificance (Nash, 60). When considering the legacy of Bacon s Rebellion upon the transformation of Virginia, and beyond, this event in history demonstrated that poor whites and poor blacks could be united in a cause. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The most essential reason of methadone being such a controversy is that methadone has potential side effects, such as drowsiness, dizziness, or blurred vision , and thus can put someone under the danger of an automobile accident. It is true that the defendant may be convicted of DUI by methadone due to his inconsistent driving, but the conviction depends on a two part test by the prosecution. First, the blood test conducted at a state approved and certified lab must show appropriate threshold levels of the drug in the defendant s system (Goodnough 1). Secondly, the police and the prosecution must prove that the driver who tests positive for the medication was impaired to the point that he or she was incapable of safe driving (Goodnough 1). However, both of these tests are subjective measurements of one s level of impairment, and therefore, cannot avoid having some uncertainties. During the blood test, for example, the presence of clots in the blood sample can artificially increase the drug concentration on the report since blood is a heterogeneous mixture, which often forms clots. The possibility of blood clotting cannot be ignored because it occurs very frequently for many reasons, such as certain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The protein product interacts with a metal that is reversibly bound to an immobilized chelating group. The immobolized chelating group acts as a Lewis base (electron pair donor) to which the Lewis acid (electron pair acceptor) metal ion is coordinated. The support to which the metal ion binds is called a ligand. When an electron donor group is replaced by another, the action is referred to as ligand exchange. The donor atoms involved in this exchange are the electronegative nitrogen, sulfur, or oxygen. These atoms scavenge for sources of electrons. The structure formed when the metal ions are added to form the chelate result in free coordination... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this paper I will refer to the immobilized Lewis base as the ligand. The combination of the metal ion with the ligand will be referred to as the affinity ligand. IMAC can be performed employing ion exchange resins as the ligand, but in the separation of proteins only chelating groups have been used to fix the metal ion to the support. Schmuckler compared the binding energy of transition metal cations with ordinary cation exchangers and with chelating groups. He found the chelating groups binding energy to be 15 to 25 kcal/mol whereas the ordinary ion exchangers have a binding energy of 2 to 3 kcal/mol. (Nes, 1999) This characteristic has led to chelating groups as the ligand of choice in IMAC. The chelating groups used in IMAC are multidentate chelating compounds providing the strength of the complex formed by the protein, metal ion and chelating group. • 17. My Hybrid Classroom Management Plan My hybrid classroom management plan that combines the Canter and Canter Assertive discipline style and Dreikur s Democratic Teaching and Management procedures allows me to incorporate the students opinions and ideas into the classroom rules and procedures. This allows for a sense of community and shared responsibility between both myself and the students to insure that the rules are being met. By allowing the student to have a say in how the classroom will run day to day makes them feel like they have a place and a value in the classroom. It is also important that I foster a sense of fairness by upholding the agreed upon rules without any bias so that the student know what to expect when rules and procedures are either followed or not. This helps the students feel supported in the classroom as well as nurtures a safe and inclusive learningenvironment. Throughout the last two field experiences my favorite part has been getting to know each of the students in the classrooms. By the end of the semester it became very hard to leave them because I had gotten attached and wantto continue to watch them grow. I have a feeling that having my own set of students that I will work with every day over the course of a year will make it even hard to let go. I love just talking with my students on a daily basis. This is something I will start from day one of a new school year. I will start the school year off with focusing on just learning about the students in my care by playing ... Filipino Culture In The Philippines The Filipino Culture Carla Cravey, Lindsay Hill, Jeanette Gass Carl Albert State College The Filipino Culture Filipinos are the second largest Asian group in the United States. In the past data has been hard to obtain about Filipino Americans, primarily because of inconsistences in coding race and ethnicity in research projects. Demographics of Filipino Americans did not start being properly recorded until the early twentieth century, when the Filipino Islands became part of the United States territory. Even with the limited data, they have gathered enough information on the Filipino culture. Filipino American beliefs differ drastically from that of Americans, such as their culture, health rituals and religious practices that may make healthcare more difficult (Dela Cruz, 2010). Studies of the Filipino American health practices show that Filipinos who reside in a rural area are more knowledgeable in home remedies, super natural ailments, traditional healing techniques, where those from urban areas rely more on Western Medicine and over the counter drugs. In both settings, indigenous folk and western medicine is used simultaneously. A popular self medication among these groups is Chinese hot/cold application system (Pasma), and Chinese oils which sometimes perceived as a remedy to all ailments such as headaches, dizziness, relaxing, or the common cold. If home remedies do not work, many seek a local healer who uses treatments which includes roots and herbs. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are many special traditions within Camp Glen Arden, so that is why I chose it to be the topic of my ethnography. Defined by the Merriam Webster dictionary as the act or practice of persecuting those who differ in origin, religion or social outlook/ the condition of being persecuted, harassed or annoyed. Other sources define it as hostility and even ill treatment towards these groups. My goal with this paper is to focus specifically on Christian persecution from early civilizations (more specifically within the Roman Empire) and then fast forwarding to persecution within the world today. For modern persecution I ll be focusing on the RSS () which is ..... in India. If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. (1 Peter 4:14) When people often reflect back on persecution in the early church, the first place that the mind goes is to the region that the early church started spreading through to begin with. The Roman Empire, where we see many of our first missionaries emerge during Christ s life and after his death. For persecution to happen there must be a green light or go ahead from someone whom holds authority, even if they personally are indifferent about the issue they must be okay with others persecuting for it to actually take place. The Theory Of Evolution And Adaptation There are three major refutations against the design argument, first she designs argument is faulted for its weak analogy between the natural objects and the objects that that is known to have a creator such as buildings. This is the equivalent of comparing apples to oranges. For the second refutation the design argumentclaims that everything has a perfect design, this simply isn t the case. For example, we can examine the issues of starvation within the United States, although the world is structured to perfectly provide food for humans, there still people starving because of imperfect circumstances such as the inability to transport food to those who can`t receive it themselves (Tombs 7). The strongest and most accepted argument against the design argument is the theory of evolution and adaptation. Those who support the theory of evolution and adaptation credits the perfect design of the aspects to those two concepts. Artic Fish are an example of this adaption, they have developed a protein in their blood that prevent their blood from freezing which allows them continue their metabolic functions (Lloyd 2). The finally argument against the design theory states that even if the premise of the argument is true, its doesn t necessarily confirm the existenceof God. The third argument of the existence of Godis the ontological argument. Constitutional order has three main parts: it has to be binding, it has to be a shared agreement, and there are constrains on every member. Contemporary international organizations reflect a constitutional order because the agreements they make are mutual and followed by all members. The United Nations is a global organization that works to help governments solve problems by finding agreements. It was founded in 1945 on the idea of promoting peace and human rights. There are 193 member states of the United Nations today that all help to work towards the common goal of eliminating issues of humanity. The UN makes decisions through the General Assembly, Security Council, Economic and Social Council, and more. The General Assembly is the only UN body that represents all member states. Each year a general debate is held where questions on security, peace, admission of new members, etc. are discussed to come to a solution or agreement. More complex situations such as questions on, peace and security, admission of new members and budget specificities must be a two thirds majority vote to pass, but simpler questions pass by simple majority. Augustana is a small, private university, and I learned plenty of academic, as well as life, lessons while attending. My grades at Augustana dropped slightly at first compared to what they were in high school. After five semesters at Augustana, I realized two things. First of all, I decided I would need to fix my priorities, and, second, I figured out how expensive that private school actually was. Plagued by the idea that I had already ruined my life with my decision thus far, my thoughts careened out of control. Immediately following the winter semester of 2009, I transferred to Minnesota State University in Mankato, MN. But how could liquid water exist on a planet so far from the sun? You might be asking yourself, why isn t the moon solid ice, similar to the former planet Pluto? Even though Europa is much further from the sun than Earth, its inner ocean is believed to have warm water, at least warm enough to be liquid. It gets much of its heat due to Jupiter s gravity, pulling the oceans as it makes its orbit and creates friction with the ice and the salt water ocean underneath. This effect is similar to the tides here on Earth. Europa s liquid ocean is estimated to contain about twice the amount of liquid water than all of Earth s oceans. Most of Earth s oceans still remain unexplored, and the life that exists there, undiscovered. Imagine what might exist under an ocean twice that size. This quote implies that Clifton s spirit (the girl) is determined to maintain young and lively while Cliftons physical body does not. This quote is important because it shows that a strong spirit is needed to not be internally influenced by age. Cliftons inner self is fighting against her physical self, which contributes towards Cliftons advice to never let age take over spirit. Furthermore, Clifton explains that the girl inside of her is special and unique to emphasize that Clifton s spirit has not changed. Making the reader understand that Clifton s spirit is special and unique is important because it emphasizes that the girl is different from her aging body. The narrator says, She is a green tree/in a forest of kindling (ln. 6 7) to portray the little girls uniqueness. A green tree in a forest of kindling uses irony to emphasize the little girls uniqueness. This is ironic because it would be against people s expectations to find a tree in a forest of small kindling. The speaker adds, She is a green girl/in a used poet (ln. 8 9). Clifton organized this stanza to make the first two lines be reflective of the last two lines in the stanza. This quote is related to the previous two lines in the poem and implies what being a green girl in a used poet means. Being a green girl in a used poet means that Clifton s spirit is what stands out about her, and Clifton s body is just the body of a poet. Clifton furthers her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Pom Rug Essay Pom Pom Rugs in The Making Pom Pom rugs are a great way to show school spirit. They are great for Classrooms, bedrooms and even bathrooms. An effective Pom Pom rug maker would include; buying the materials, wrapping, tying and placing the yarn on the mat correctly. The initial step that would have to be used to create the Pom Pom rug would be to pick out the colors of yarn that are needed to make the rug. Any number of colors used would be fine to make the rug. The more colors are used the better the rug will turn out as long as they all coincide. School colors are a great way to show school spirit, especially in classrooms. Secondarily the size of the Mat is very important. Depending on how many colors are being used, and how big the space is that the mat will be placed it could be anywhere from 5 to 10 feet long. Then the maker of the rug would have to decide what type of mat that will be used. The mat would be better the more... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Two toilet paper rolls would be the best thing to use. Tape two toilet paper rolls together and wrap the yarn ninety times. The more times the Yarn is wrapped the better it will turn out. Do that to all of the yarn with all of the colors that are being used. Then cut a string of the same color to tie around the wrapped yarn. The more extended the string, the better outcome there will be. Gently slide the wrapped yarn off of the toilet paper rolls and then tightly tie the string around the yarn horizontally twice. Make sure it is directly in the middle so that there is no uneven sides. If it is not tight enough the yarn will shed off of the rug and it will be an annoyance to clean up. After tying the yarn tightly, then it is time to cut both ends of all the strings of yarn. It should be fluffy and soft when the rug is stepped on for the first ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is important that an American trying to do business in Saudi Arabia understand the hierarchy so they don t offend anybody. Uncertainty Avoidance describes a society s comfort with uncertainty (Ball 100). The Saudi Arabian culture prefers to avoid uncertainty, meaning they feel the need to have strict laws and rules, and expect to have clear procedures to maintain the status quo. (Ball 100). An American trying to do business in Saudi Arabia will need to remember that change is not welcomed so innovation may be resisted (The Hofstede Center). Masculinity femininity dimension describes the gap between the roles of men and women in the culture (Ball 100). Saudi Arabia is a masculine society meaning that both men are typically more assertive and competitive. Although there aren t as many women working in Saudi Arabia, the women that do work are considered to be assertive and competitive, just like their male counterparts. An American would need to keep this in mind in regards to management because the culture expects management to be decisive and assertive (The Hofstede Center). Long term orientation/Confucian dynamism is explained as the level to which people in the culture will persevere to overcome obstacles they cannot overcome with will or strength (Ball 101). The culture of Saudi Arabia a short term oriented society. This means that they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Theme Of Angela s Ashes And The Street Theme is the hidden morals within a piece of literature that the author is trying to get readers to understand. In both Angela s Ashes and The Street, we can distinguish a similar theme. One similar theme in both stories is struggling to get through life s complications. After reading the two different excerpts, we can use character, events, and the setting to further our understanding. In Angela s Ashes, the theme of struggling to get through life s obstacles is shown using character. In paragraph 4, McCourt writes, You can look in people s windows and see how cozy it is in their kitchens with fires glowing or ranges black and hot everything bright in the electric light cups and saucers on the table with plates of sliced bread pounds of butter jars of jam smells of fried eggs... the mother crisp and clean in her apron everyone washed and the Sacred Heart of Jesus looking down on them from the wall suffering and sad but still happy with all that food and light and good Catholics at their breakfast. This quote shows, that the protagonist has been peering into the houses of the rich and realizes that the rich has everything they want and more. This theme shows that the main character is jealous of the rich lifestyle because they have more struggles than the rich do. In addition, this theme is also presented using events. In paragraph 5, In a second I have two bottles of lemonade up under my jersey and i saunter away trying to look innocent, (McCourt). This quote is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Nicole s Behavior In The Classroom I enjoyed reading all of the cases that we were allowed to choose from. I found this story to be an example of the role of us as educators. We are often detectives that must find solutions with our students to help them learn, grow, and mature. I think that Ms. Johnson s idea to keep Nicole inside to complete her work while recess was going on was an appropriate punishment for Nicole. Although this punishment was not putting the disruptive behavior to a halt, it ultimately led to the reason behind this behavior. I believe that is Ms. Johnson did not do a little more investigating into the reasons behind Nicole s behavior that would have been a horrible injustice to not just Nicole, but the entire class. Here Nicole realized that the reason that she has missed a portion of her recess for several years was not because she was not smart, but because she was too distracted and off task due to talking. Ms. Johnson then took this opportunity to provide tools for Nicole to use that would help remind her to remain on task and talk less in class. I really enjoyed this case study. Ms. Johnson handled the punishments of Nicole in the ideal manner. Sitting out for part or all of her recess time was not too harsh, nor was it not harsh enough. After different placements within the classroom did not work, Ms. Johnson realized she needed to do more to figure out the problem. I like how Ms. Johnson was not going to give up, and with her ideas, she eventually solved the problem, which helped Nicole tremendously in the long ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. Canadian Constitution Act of 1982 I found myself thinking sociologically when I realized that equality in Canada is less practiced as what the Canadian Constitution Act of 1982 claims. In this constitution, it is stated that every individual should be treated equally regardless of their race, ethnicity, colour, religion, sex, age, and any disability; however, in reality, individuals experience inequality in the form of racism throughout the Canadian society. For instance, a few months ago, a black male was asked to leave the St. Laurent shopping centre by the mall securities as the position of his pants were viewed as not family friendly but this type of fashion is normal for teenagers who are influenced by the hip hop culture. As the man did not want to cause any trouble,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Moreover, in 1940s, Canadian born, black students were not admitted in Canadian nursing schools because of the idea that Canadian hospitals would not hire them. Thus, the author concludes that Black nurses face racism today because of the historical exclusion and segmentation in the labour market. The authors, Gillian Creese and Tania Das Gupta, both demonstrate that equality is less pronounced than the Canadian Constitution Act of 1982 states. Although these two articles were written on different time periods in history, both articles display racism in the Canadian society, specifically at a workplace. Creese focuses on the experiences of Chinese workers whereas Gupta investigates the experiences of Black nurses. However, Creese s description of racism is more extreme than Gupta s, which could indicate that there has been an improvement in equality in Canada. Regardless, these articles prove that there is a difference between the promise made by the constitution and reality. Canada is known as a multicultural nation and is praise internationally for its immigration policy. However, there has been an issue of racial profiling in the criminal justice system. The article The Usual Suspects: Police Stop and Search Practices in Canada by Scot Wortley and Akwasi Owusu Bempah, explores the existence of racial profiling. The authors argue that racial discrimination has existed throughout the Canadian society, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Correlation Between Youth Sports Athletes And Leadership... A Look at Correlation Between Youth Sports Athletes and Leadership Concepts in the Workforce By Robert Graves For a majority of my life, I ve been involved in sports. I can even remember when I played on my first team, the time my father first enrolled me on my first T ball league. There are pictures in our family photo album of me holding a basketball at an age even younger than when I played in the T ball league, shooting it into a Mattel basketball hoop. Throughout the years, I ve played on various sports teams from little league baseball, YMCA basketball, high school football, and even a high status volleyball team during my time in the Marine Corps. I love sports and the team concept; in fact, a majority of my friends played in some type of league, or were former teammates of my own. I ve noticed throughout the years, as I look back on my life, that I had always been some sort of captain or role model, and even in the jobs I held I had always been promoted faster than my peers, and have always been given great recognition and appraisal. I have always been told I was a good leader, and people came to me willingly to seek assistance and advice. Still to this day, as a chief in my shop, and as a family friend, people turn to me for life coaching. I see this trend as well with some of my former teammates, and even some former High School and College athletes that enlisted in the services. Seeing this trend I began to wonder if there is a correlation between ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
